1970 Plymouth Superbird (Part 2 of 2)
Imagine finding your dream car when it was considered "just a used car". That is precisely what the current owner if this original, factory documented 4spd, HEMI Superbird did when he purchased it in 1982 from the original owner. This was ordered new in Texas as a Chrysler Executive car. When the executive received a new car in 1971, Chrysler made the car available through the Race Car Driver's Program and made its way into Dave Wren's stable. Mr. Wren raced the car for a time, pulled the original race prepped engine and replaced it with a new 1970 date coded street HEMI and converted it to an Automatic as condition of sale to the first private owner. Who in their right mind would choose to do that?
The first owner, having lost the use of his legs, was glad to have the automatic transmission and fitted the car with hand controls, using this Hemi Superbird as personal chariot of freedom and drove it extensively during his 11 years of ownership. The odometer currently reads 83,006 miles, which is not believed to be actual. The first owner probably put that many miles on it or more during his tenure. He also took care of like that you would a member of the family, that you like.
The current owner returned the car to its original 4-speed manual configuration and has driven and enjoyed the car thoroughly over the past 35 years. He likely logged more miles than that 83k again since 1982. The car is a legendary figure in the Pacific North West. If you have been to a car show out West, you've likely seen it in person. While this is likely the highest mileage Hemi Superbird of the 135 made, it is also one of the most loved and cared by its owners. The current owner restored the car to like new condition in 2010. During that time, the venerable HEMI was rebuilt, needing only 20 over pistons. According to the owner, this is the same engine that was put in the car by Dave Wren before selling it to the first private owner. Not bad for a marathoner, is it?
Now this is a guilt-free ride with a non-original motor and transmission- so you don't have to bit your nails worrying about detonating the original VIN matching units. When only 58 of them made in this powertrain configuration, this doesn't impact value or collectability. As prices for genuine 4-speed manual shift HEMI Superbirds have climbed into the stratosphere, it is a rare to find one that is still driven and enjoyed every car show season. What this Hemi 'bird does have and is, in many collector's mind, more important than an original motor. The car has the Original Broadcast Sheet, Original VIN Tag, Original Door Label, and Original Fender Tag. All the body numbers are also present and accounted for.
A restoration was completed in 2010. Quarters, trunk floor, rear wheel housing, and rear panel were replaced at that time. The front clip and nose cone are OEM metal. The paint and body are in very good condition. Panel fit and alignment is every good, as factory original. The vinyl top and and front windshield are also new. The paint work, as previously stated, very good. No bubbles, solvent pops, or any significant blemishes or defects. Any where and tear is consistent with seasonal driving, maintenance and enjoyment.
The interior was also restored as part of the 2010 restoration. The dash remains original to the car. The main wiring harness, carpet, headliner, front and rear seat covers are all new. Most Superbirds came with black interior. The factory white offsets the B5 Blue exterior, giving it a look that sets it apart from most any other color combo. The interior is in very good condition, patina consistent with the age and overall state of repair on the vehicle. The interior presents as factory original, with the exception of a set of under dash mounted accessory gauges. All lights and accessories are in working order.
The engine block is a 1970 date coded block, rebuilt with 20 over pistons and hardened valve seats to handle unleaded fuel. The engine bay appears factory correct in the broad sense of the word. Carbs, valve covers, and air-cleaner are all correct for the car. It features a stock appearing a super cooling 5 core radiator. This is a driver. Accessories and assemblies have been upgraded or altered to optimize reliability, performance, and driving enjoyment. The car is equipped with power steering, power brakes, and electronic ignition. The overall appears of the engine is neat and clean, showing normal wear and patina congruent with a car that is driven, enjoyed, and well cared for.
The undercarriage is dry, rust free, with no evidence of active fluid leaks. The floorboards and wheel wells are treated with factory sound installation and stone chip guard. The transmission is an A833 overdrive transmission, which makes the car more fun to drive. The exhaust and fuel tank appear to have been replaced sometime in its history.
If you are looking for a genuine HEMI Superbird backed by a 4-speed transmission that you can actually drive and enjoy, this is it.

ok ok a 68 plymouth gtx for ris is perfection but what do u think the rest of the squadra has? i really wanna say one of them has a studebaker somehow but i just dont know (ignore it was a us based company i love them anyways shhhh)
god. this is the best ask i couldve ever gotten. buckle up. ha ha. bc cars. and also bc I’m not gonna shut the fuck up
but YEAH NO SAME i also chose to foolishly disregard that italians wouldnt likely drive american cars (or necessarily drive at all…america is mad obsessed with cars compared to a lot of other countries so sdkfhsdkj) bc its all fun and games so ik a lot of this would be unrealistic but I’m american so i really only know about american cars/cars that are popular in america dskjfsdkjf so sorry for America-Centrism On Main but if any italians or ppl w knowledge of italian cars wanna chime in w their own takes, by all means!!!
oh and this post also foolishly assumes la sqaudra has money. lets pretend for just this post they all actually got paid for their jobs
SO WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY warning this is gonna make this post rly long but I’m gonna ad pics of the cars i think they’d all drive like. in case anyone reading wants to know what they look like but doesn’t wanna look em all up so I’m gonna throw this under a cut in case it gets crazy
ok i can 1000% see sorbet and gelato sharing a like studebaker speedster that they would take out cruising for special occasions….it would spend most of its time under a tarp locked in a garage bc if you touch that car without permission you WILL die by their loving intertwined hands. some couples have babies. some couples get dogs. sorbet and gelato got a studebaker speedster and treated it with almost as much love as they do each other. one might think their driving would match the “crazy” impression everyone has of them but honestly? they prefer to take it slow and cruise so they have more time to enjoy each others company. on the job they’ll wreck a rental all to hell, but not their baby. the rest of squadra would low key fear for their lives on the rare occasion that sorbet and gelato offered them rides in their car bc the inside is spotless and they all knew if they left anything out of place or dirtier than they found it their time was up
Tumblr media
i think they’d dig a color scheme something like this; still looks mob and sophisticated without losing the whimsicality u feel me
i really like a classic chevelle ss or ‘67 mustang gt500 for formaggio
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ignore how fuckin shiney these are bc make no mistake his would be scratched and worn all to hell)
in line w my headcanon that he’d be knowledgable about cars, i think he’d like supe them up and mod them for street racing or 1960s style drag racing. since we don’t get a lot of individual sqaudra backstory i sometimes think about him maybe losing his parents at a young age or having a bad home life as is typical of passione members and getting taken in by a local mechanic, and only as he got older realizing the shop had mafia ties which eventually paved the way for his induction etc but the knowledge and interest in cars always stuck with him. i think he’d probably drive the most recklessly out of all of squadra (rivaled only by ghiaccio ofc) bc he just loves to go fast as fuck and show off. he’s definitely a revs-the-engine-when-he-drives-by-someone-cute ass bitch
illuso would drive a ‘71 dodge demon, and honestly only because he liked the name and how it looked
Tumblr media
it would honestly drive formaggio insane that illuso would ONLY use this car to get around as opposed to flying down the countryside or doing burnouts in a field. illuso doesn’t know much about cars and he doesn’t care to learn either; if it looks good and the engine turns he’s happy. formaggio would BEG him to race him or let him take it for a spin, but illuso would be adamant in turning him down every time. he has no desire to take risks and tear up a perfectly good car, but if he feels especially generous he’ll let formaggio ride with him while formaggio excitedly rattles off specs illuso doesn’t understand in the slightest. he won’t readily admit to it but seeing formaggio that excited is really endearing and illuso would even end up learning something here and there from their time spent together
ghiaccio is anal enough about All Things Italian that he breaks my disclaimer and actually does drive an italian car. y'all already know what the fuck is going on
Tumblr media
hell yeah ghiaccio drives a lambo. ‘71 lamborghini miura to be exact. and boy does he make this motherfucker screech and drift. as much as he seems to abuse the car he’s extremely uptight about upkeep and will take it in as often as needed for repairs. you can also bet your ass he’d berate any of his fellow squadra members that didn’t drive italian-made cars, asking them why they’d choose to drive that trash on wheels when their country is home to the best cars in the entire fucking world and they have their pick. being in the passenger seat with him at the wheel is terrifying, don’t get me wrong, but he’s actually a very skilled driver, like to the point that he probably couldve been a stunt car driver if he wanted. but whatever you do don’t show any adverse reactions to his hard turns or brakes bc he will take it as a personal insult to his skill as a driver and you will find that the louder his voice gets the heavier his foot gets on the gas so Good Fucking Luck. (also yes ik we already see ghiaccio driving a car in canon but its headcanon time and during headcanon time ghiaccio rocks the fucking lambo)
prosciutto would drive a big beautiful blue ‘65 thunderbird convertible
Tumblr media
he would also be very particular about the upkeep of his car, but without any sort of personal touch; he hasn’t the time nor desire to keep up with the car himself so he just makes sure he takes it to a reputable shop to do it for him. it’s not his “baby” or an heirloom; its just a car. it runs and looks good as all fuck while doing it so thats all he really cares about tbh. that said, if anyone ever scratched or keyed or dented it they wouldn’t live long to regret bc as a wise man once said, you don’t fuck with a mans automobile. i mentioned this in the my squadra meme as well, but even though he smokes like a chimney, he NEVER smokes in his car. no smoking, eating, or drinking in the thunderbird. sealed packs of cigs in the console only and if the seals been broken it has to stay in your pocket. the upholstery is pristine and he prefers to keep it that way. he’s a very mild mannered driver and even often errs on the side of slow; he doesn’t really see the point in wasting gas by speeding or messing up the tires or alignment by showboating. he knows that he AND the car already look good enough to command bystanders’ attention so he doesn’t waste his time with any extra flashiness
ima keep it real with you chief: melone would drive a car you could fuck in the back of and thats about all there is to it, so look no further than the spacious ‘61 chrysler newport
Tumblr media
he would somehow figure out a way to get an aux cord and a sound system in this old motherfucker and would listen to his music so loud it about rattled the doors off, much to any passengers’ chagrin. he’s almost worse to ride with than formaggio or ghiaccio because he texts and messes with the music the entire time he’s driving. like its almost impressive how often he manages to NOT have his hands on the wheel. he’s a master knee-driver. all that in mind the rest of squadra groans in unison when melone offers to drive and risotto, who doesn’t have time for a squabble, gives the ok and send them on their way bc they know they’re gonna have to deal with melone insisting that driver picks the music and white knuckling the handles the whole time. but regardless, if the chrysler’s rockin and the britney’s boppin, don’t come a-knockin
since i see pesci as the youngest i think he’d be the last to get a car, but the rest of squadra would surprise him by all pitching in and getting him a ‘69 buick sport wagon
Tumblr media
it’d definitely be a fixer-upper (prosciutto insisted it’d be good for pesci to retroactively “earn” the car by learning how to take care of it, prompting the rest of squadra to point out prosciutto never even learned how to fix a car himself) but pesci would be out of his mind appreciative of it either way. after years of only ever riding in the back seat of someone else’s car he’d be so excited about finally having a car to call his own. formaggio would take him under his wing and show him everything he needed to do to make sure she stayed running in tip-top shape and they’d grow pretty close over it; formaggio would lose his damn mind the first time he’d convince pesci to do a burnout on his own. pesci would try his best to keep the car clean but he’d probably have a bad habit of leaving empty drink bottles in the floorboard or extra jackets in the back seat, but all in all he’d do a pretty good job taking care of the car and making the generous gift from his team worth it. most non-work related outings would have pesci chauffeuring, but he wouldn’t mind, bc seeing all his friends crammed into his car and having a good time would make him really happy
and last but not least risotto and his ‘68 plymouth gtx 🖤
Tumblr media
perhaps surprisingly he wouldnt be excessively meticulous about upkeep; he definitely wouldnt do anything needlessly reckless to harm the car or neglectful of standard upkeep, but he would definitely see it as more of a personal part of him than a machine that needed to maintain perfection. he wouldn’t really sweat scratches or dents here and there; they’re bound to happen to a car that old and if he found the time he’d take it to get it buffed. like i said in the hc meme i think it would’ve belonged to his father (or any family member he was close to really) and it was passed onto him when he died so it’s kind of a sentimental thing for risotto. though not quite the same level as formaggio, he’s fairly good at making standard repairs on his own, and doesn’t mind spending a weekend or two up under the car fixing it up and making sure it runs smooth. the rest of squadra would each be surprised the first time they ever rode anywhere with him; the second the car started old classic rock or metal would blast through the speakers, with risotto mumbling a quick sorry and turning it down, but not all the way off. they would find out that their stoic leader prefers to drive with the windows down, one hand on the wheel, other out the window tapping to the beat of the music on the hood
aaaaaaaaand YEAH. i told you i wasn’t gonna shut the fuck up DSFHKJADHKSDJ LMAO SORRY I WENT TF OFF BUT YEAH THOSE ARE MY. SQUADRA CLASSIC CAR HCs

SEMA GARAGE OPENS IN DETROIT
Tumblr media
PLYMOUTH, Mich. (Aug. 19, 2022) – The SEMA Garage in Detroit, Mich., is now open for business. The new 45,000-square-foot facility represents a significant milestone for the automotive aftermarket industry and is the first-ever research facility dedicated to testing and understanding how the aftermarket is impacted and can successfully work with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).   Located in Plymouth, Mich. – just 30 miles from Detroit – the SEMA Garage Detroit features a large ADAS technology center, an installation center, and will expand to include a four-wheel chassis dyno lab, and another dyno lab capable of testing diesel and gasoline tailpipe emissions. Like the high-tech SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, Calif., the Detroit facility will give aftermarket parts manufacturers access to sophisticated resources that are typically accessible only to large-scale manufacturers.   “The SEMA Garage Detroit is a game changer in helping aftermarket manufacturers develop products for today’s sophisticated automobiles,” said Ben Kaminsky, SEMA Garage Detroit General Manager. “We will be collaborating with automakers, suppliers, and key players in the industry to conduct some groundbreaking research. We are really going to be able to take product development and testing capabilities to a whole new level.”   Similar to the facility in Diamond Bar, the SEMA Garage in Detroit will feature exclusive OEM measuring sessions, scanning services, advanced tools and equipment, a CARB-recognized emissions lab, and a modern training center for members to use. Since opening in 2014, the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar has helped manufacturers to secure more than 600 Executive Orders (EOs) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) – more than any other testing facility.   The SEMA Garage in Detroit will offer all SEMA members complimentary access to automotive garage tools and equipment for aftermarket product development, R&D, prototyping, and measuring sessions. Additionally, the facility is available for trainings, how-to/installation videos, product reveals, and production video and photography.   Moreover, 5,000 of the 45,000-sq.-ft. building will be devoted exclusively to research on ADAS. The ADAS Center represents a new venture for SEMA, where manufacturers will be able to obtain static calibration of on-board vehicle ADAS systems (radars and cameras). With access to OEM-quality equipment and procedures, manufacturers will be able to easily troubleshoot software/hardware obstacles, as well as work on dynamic testing in conjunction with local facilities.   “The SEMA Garage Detroit facility opens up new doors and opportunities for our member companies and SEMA,” said Kaminsky. “We will be able to elevate our current offerings by making the services accessible to new members, incorporating new technology, and collaborating with key partners in the area.”   The Detroit facility is three times larger than the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar. SEMA Garage Detroit features new equipment, such as emissions and horsepower testing for all-wheel-drive and diesel vehicles, vehicle lifts, full sets of tools, fabrication equipment, an alignment rack, 3D scanning tools, and engineering software. The lab accommodates a 48-inch all-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer and includes a new emissions test bench. With equipment that meets CARB’s new 1066 testing requirement standards, SEMA Garage Detroit will be able to perform all required CARB and EPA test procedures.   “SEMA Garage provides manufacturers access to tools and equipment without the exorbitant individual costs,” said Kaminsky. “Manufacturers no longer need to rely on trial and error for their product development, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. SEMA Garage Detroit will enable more manufacturers access to our resources.”    Through the SEMA Garage’s resources, manufacturers are often able to develop fully functional prototypes in as little as two weeks and obtain CARB EOs in as little as 12 weeks. The SEMA Garage Detroit facility is now open for members. For more information, visit www.semagarage.com.  Read the full article

Would Americans buy a Chinese car?
From my view, yes. Here’s why a Chinese car might stick around long enough to catch on with American buyers.
Cars are pillars of status, privilege, and pride in the USA. The car has truly made its home in our country and to many we often see them as members of the family or a faithful friend. Some like to show off with luxury or sport models or brands to denote their position in their company, neighborhood, or for the thrill of driving something fun or special. Most of us own what I would refer to as a daily driver, a car that gets you to A and B without fuss with creature comforts that make the everyday drive possible and while adding buckets of practically for any adventure. Some own minivans or CUVs/SUVs for hauling stuff around easier or to move large families around with oodles of space. Trucks are great for even bigger hauling and towing things around like boats or trailers of beer or stolen copper wire. However there is a price to pay with all this, depending on brand or model, new or used. Buying a vehicle is quite the important purchase for many. And they aren’t cheap depending on entirely what you’re looking for.  And this is where the Chinese auto manufacturers might have a leg on nearly all brands currently selling in the US. This even includes the value leaders of Kia and Hyundai, who have been known to sell cars at more reasonable prices than their competitors and offer more for what you’re buying.
Installing a brand into a new market isn’t easy, however we have seen a template in which new guests into the US auto arena have done very well to get anchored in and to weather to storm ahead. At first European brands immediately after WWII have established themselves and have secured a foothold in the US, so did the Japanese in the mid 1960’s and early 1970’s, the Koreans in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and even late newcomers back on American soil like Tesla in the 2010’s have found their way to be taken seriously on the big stage. That successful template is offer something special or affordable in value, or do both. The original Volkswagen Beetle offered affordability, simplicity, and economy that was hard to pass up in the car starved post war era of the late 40’s. So was the Toyota Corona and Corolla of the late 60’s. The Koreans offered the Hyundai Excel that also provided much the same qualities. At the time when they were new, they were “the” disposable car of their time. They did a job well and adequately without many frills, and they were good value for the money for their respected time periods. Even the little Yugo from Socialist Yugoslavia offered the cheapest car in the US that only did the job to get you around town that didn’t get you wet when it rained.  They offered both young people and adults who didn’t have a lot of money to spend or who wanted to buy a new car at second hand car prices, cheap affordable wheels they can take home with.
Now it’s 2018, and the brands that introduced themselves humbly during their times are now well established with the American buying public. No longer do we look at brands like Toyota, Honda, or Nissan with skeptical views of cheapness or being unpatriotic of not buying domestic, even today the scrutiny of buying Kia and Hyundai products is nearly nonexistent in our day and age because they have continued to up their quality and value game. Much like the many imports before them, we see them no differently than how we see GM, FoCoMo, and Chrysler-Fiat products. Just another quality brand. However now, there is a catch that we now see today, the import brands that came into our country that once touted affordability have now slowly over the passage of time become a tad out of reach for younger buyers. Yes cars are expensive, but most cars you see on dealer lots tend to be more expensive mid and upper trim option levels for most models, and you have to do some digging around to find a new car that is cheap enough to fit within budget needs. And here’s why this affordability is important with the feasibility of seeing Chinese cars in the US market. The average age of a car in the US is 11 years old, which honestly doesn’t sound that bad, though that feels kinda low. I’d feel it’s more like 15 years old, there are still a ton of older cars still rolling about the hills and the back roads. But whatever it is, people are holding on to them for many reasons. Can’t afford a newer car, maybe with plenty of work done a car could be driven for a lot longer, or maybe life priorities don’t call for the purchase of a newer car.
Now let’s take a look at the Chinese auto industry. The Chinese economy is very much a living example of the Yugoslavian hybrid model of “market socialism”, centralized planning with capitalist competitiveness coexisting well together that promotes more frequent updates or advancements with the goal to sell to the consumer without having industrial or economic waste. Other socialist states didn’t work like this, and how they had vehicle development, marketing, and production was a much more different animal than what is seen in China today. And because of this, China’s automotive industry is has blossomed into many companies producing many models of vehicles for its vast “captive” and export markets. Some companies have properly obtained licensing agreements and their technical packages to produce vehicles, while some others have reverse engineered vehicles to blatantly copy. Their quality ranges from comparable to Western cars we come to expect to just low quality junk that we haven’t seen in cars since the 80’s or 90’s.
If China makes most of our consumer products, cameras, phones, selfie sticks, appliances, industrial equipment and car parts, why not whole cars. Well China did try to extend into our auto market by selling us the Coda electric sedan on the West coast for only a model year from 2012 to 2013, and selling a dismal 117 units. Quality wasn’t where it should have been for the cost of $40k, and initially scheduled to be launched back in 2010 was held back two years due to lack of developmental time for durability. For the first US market launch of a Chinese made car that designed in 2004 on an older Mitsubishi platform, and an electric car right off the bat, no bite and little positive impression.
Now for real, let’s say China markets a car brand for the US that passes Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and fuel economy/emissions standards, they should start with basic affordable cars that people want to buy. It’s a no brainer that the US market for car sales is a huge market on its own, and even other European companies are envisioning a return back to grab a small slice of the market pie. For one, Americans might draw some skepticism to a Chinese car but the idea of buying a compact or even midsized sedan with loads of options for less than $15-20k is a tantalizing prospect and would buy them up like they did the Yugo. The Yugo did alright for staying in the market from 1985 to 1992, selling 142k units. If you can sell ten thousand cars like how Scion began in 2003, you’ll make a good enough foothold in the market, unless you’re Daihatsu. Sorry Daihatsu, maybe a subject for another day.
What are you going to expect with your Chinese car when you get it. I would expect body panels that don’t align well as they should have, “orange peel” paint finish, interior plastics that look like they won’t last long, sheet metal that might go rusty in a couple years, seat fabric that might rip in not much time, fit and finish overall is generally an afterthought. Again, you’re paying to get pissed off like buying a $3990 Yugo sold new in 1986 (if you could ever find one that sold for that low back then), but remember that you’re buying a set of wheels that’ll get you by for the time being. Much like how people expected Hyundai Excels to be just garbage piles, still preformed the duty of a basic if not agricultural car.  But that would be a worst expectation of what a Chinese car could be. Who knows, maybe if the Chinese are that serious about the US market, they’ll build a separate assembly line like the Zastava factory who built the Yugo for the USDM. Here’s a scary thought, we all know how much of a mixed bag the Yugo was in the US, and to think the ones that made it here were built better on another assembly line meant for our market, I can’t imagine what the Yugoslavian market Yugos were like.
Much like every cheap and affordable car that introduces itself to our market, expect it to have little to no resale value to speak of, however you’re not really expecting to sell this car if you were looking at buying one. In your situation, you’re buying your first car for the first time or needing a second car, something to get you rolling for the time being. Whether if you’re in college or in highschool, or down on your luck with an older car that kept falling apart. The idea that you could buy a Chinese car for peanuts is something that’ll get the job done, and not care much about what you’re driving. You’re not expecting mind bending performance or luxury, you know what you’re getting into if you do, and the more you accept this the better. I mean no Toyota Corolla was ever sporty in the 70’s, it was the car you bought after the Ford Falcon finally rusted away and you needed to buy something fast so you can still go to night class. And if there were Chinese cars in the market here to buy, I’d buy one to drive it into the ground to either save up for a better car or just to buy another if one wasn’t enough. In the world of millennials sometimes having no credit or shit credit could transpire into a hairy situation of sticking with a rusty 90’s Nissan Sentra affectionately named “Liam Nissan” that eats too much oil or asking your aunt to buy her equally rusty Plymouth Breeze with empty cigarette packs scattered around. You’d rather buy a Chevy Cruze however you’re afraid that one for $10k and 83K miles might end up needing routine maintenance that you couldn’t afford to pull off on the spot and any new Kia Rio found on a dealer lot is still thousands over the mythical minimum sticker price. Hell, if a Chinese car was too expensive brand new, wait a year and you could even get one for sub $6-8k prices, maybe even less.
Honestly I’m really surprised that the Chinese haven’t entered our market yet, they have entered the European zone and been a huge mainstay in Russia (I guess Ladas aren’t cheap enough for them) for years now. They can range from cheap to really adequate modes of transportation, even something to own for more than you really require of it. The Chinese have been making Audi’s, BMW’s, and Buick’s with huge demands because they have been grand sellers in terms of luxury, and they tend to be of quality similar to their genuine originals. Whatever the Chinese do throw out us someday, we’ll gladly be in open arms for cheaper alternatives to newer, or really used cars. Plus, we Americans love to rip on unknown shitboxes, then in 15 years’ time we are buying them by the thousands. Who would guess in 1966 that Toyota would be producing quality luxury sporty cars under the Lexus brand. In 1995 when Kia would one day be producing a car like the Stinger that is chasing around other RWD sport sedans. In 1992 the Yugo going on to better things….oh wait we ran out of Yugoslavia by then. Mhmmmm we never really did get the Tata Nano here in the states (who remembered when that came out, $3000 car that had a fire problem), even though that there was an interest for a short while. In 1970 Americans wouldn’t expect Datsuns to be called “Datsun by Nissan” in 1984 and just Nissan by 1985. Import brands change and morph in the fluid of time, and many are still here. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Chinese brand turns out to be a good seller in 5-10 years time much like how the other imports started out.
And apparently on a quick google search, it seems that the Chinese auto company GAC has an interest in joining the US market in late 2019. Under the local Chinese brand name….Trumpchi. They are serious, and honestly their vehicles don’t look that bad either. In fact they would fit right in with this country. They are figuring out a newer name to use in North America. No one is certain how reliable a new Chinese car will be in the states, but if it’s cheap don’t expect it to last forever.
If you made it this far, hurray! If you like my rambling, you’d like what I’d have in store in the future. If you don’t, well, I’m still going to write it down anyways. :D

Accessible Tourism in NZ (and the world)
When I was thinking about what I could do for my individual project that was focused on making Aotearoa more accessible and to give space to disabled people to be seen and heard, I was also thinking about how bad I wanted to travel to my country and see my family. So then, all of a sudden, I realized how I have never heard anyone talking about tourism for people with physical disabilities.
Back in 2018, I was volunteering at Argo Trust, which is a house with 6 patients who have cognitive and physical disabilities. Over the summer, I helped and went to WOMAD Festival in New Plymouth. I remember how hard it was a times to move the wheelchairs with them and to get close to the stage so they could enjoy the music.. This made me open my eyes and see how little we talk about other people’s issues and difficulties in their everyday lives, just because the world is made for able body people.
I started making research and found a few useful websites that talk about where to go and stay when on vacations, where I found out about Be.accessible:
Be. Accessible is a social change initiative and a holistic framework for accessibility with a view to create a truly accessible New Zealand. Be. Accessible is managed by the Be. Institute and aims to work across all sectors and communities throughout the country. The belief is that every person has their part to play in the creation of accessibility regardless of how big or small the change.
Be.Accessible deal with many travel organisations and many of those in one of the accessible travel directories have completed a Be. Welcome Assessment (usually Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum rating). This assessment has been designed to identify access features you may need to know when researching or preparing to visit, entering, experiencing and leaving the location or service. All Be.Accessible rated businesses will have a Be.Accessible logo shown.
https://www.tourism.net.nz/accessible-travel
Tumblr media
Also found Wheel the World, a travel business that offers tour packs to different cities in the world. Unfortunately, not New Zealand. Although, checking their prices, I can tell it is a luxury for disabled people to be able to afford them.

What is accessible tourism?
Accessibility in tourism is a social right- everyone should have access regardless of where they come from, their age, their gender, any disabilities they may have, hope much money they earn etc.
Also sometimes referred to as ‘tourism for all‘, accessible tourism is closely aligned with the principles of sustainable tourism. In order for an organisation to be sustainable, it should provide access opportunities for all.
It’s great that there’s information out there for everyone with access to internet and a device, but I noticed there are little bits of information sparced in lots of different places.
‘Accessible tourism is a process of enabling people with disabilities and seniors to function independently and with equity and dignity through the delivery of universal tourism products, services and environments. The definition is inclusive of the mobility, vision, hearing and cognitive dimensions of access.’ (Darcy, 2006)
‘Accessible tourism enables people with access requirements, including mobility, vision, hearing and cognitive dimensions of access, to function independently and with equity and dignity through the delivery of universally designed tourism products, services and environments. This definition is inclusive of all people including those travelling with children in prams, people with disabilities and seniors’. (Darcy & Dickson, 2009)
When looking up on Amazon for a book or guide that could say a bit more, I only found two examples:

PHOT303 - Mileage Mary Vary - 4-23/2/2020
35mm cameras are certainly a favourite of mine, as they are compact, and cheaper than a new full frame DSLR. Medium format is my desired platform, but that doesn’t mean that 135 can’t be used from time to time.
This roll of Kodak Pro Image 100 started off in Totnes, with a camera that has been laying around for years...and it’s another Yashica. This time, its an TL Electro-X. This is an M42 mount 35mm SLR, with a simple stop down meter which has the coveted title of being the first camera with miniature lamps to let the user know that the exposure information. I thought I was use it for one more time before I eventually sell it, as it just sits around in a box never really being used, as my Pentax Spotmatic F is my main and only M42 mount camera. So this was a mix of a camera test, and another shoot for MMV. Although, I do not plan on using any 135 images for MMV, as they don’t hold the resolution and aesthetic for the project as well as the 120 format.
Tumblr media
I firstly had one of my favourite lenses mounted to the Yashica: the Industar 50-2. This is a 50mm pancake lens, with a maximum aperture of F3.5 which was made in the Soviet Union. The lens is...optically different compared to newer optics and offers some certain nuances. Not to say that it’s rubbish, but it creates some interesting bokeh and is surprisingly sharp for what it is. They’re decently cheap to buy and millions of them were made, so they’re plentiful. Above, is a Mercedes 300 GD, which is one of many versions of Mercedes’ G series of vehicles. They’re robust and well made four wheel drive vehicles that can tackle harsh terrain, and even the hills of Totnes as it stands. The 50mm focal length is my go to focal length, as it can do close ups, and landscapes rather well for that I am doing. It is also easy for my to compose the shot, as it seem to see in this focal length in mind which usually makes it difficult to use anything other than 50mm.
The film is also quite nice. I have had several rolls for a while, and shot a few and not had them developed, so this served as the first one I ever had done. And fair to say, I rather like it. Pro Image 100 serves as a middle ground between the cheap as chips Kodak Colour Plus 200 and the expensive Kodak Portra range. It still manages to keep that Kodak golden glow but it doesn’t separate itself too much from their other offerings.
Tumblr media
This is just around the corner from my home, where a number of 50ft Leylandiis where eventually fell after a year or two of discussion. Here are some Land Rover parts that lay in someones driveway and have eventually been taken over by the undergrowth. There is something inherently interesting about vehicles, and vehicle parts that get left on their own, and nature reclaiming it back to itself. I guess it is because it marks the end of that vehicles life, and it’s potential usefulness - although this isn’t always the case as they can always be reclaimed back to use and be restored with enough time and money.
Tumblr media
I didn’t finish the roll in Totnes, and it was eventually finished back in Plymouth with the addition of a lens change...but to another Soviet offering. I switched to the Helios 44-2, which is a highly regarded copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm F2. The Biotar is one of many optical designs set out by Zeiss, with the Helios becoming a copy after the Soviet’s invaded Germany during the Second World War. Again, millions of Helios’ were made and they’re plentiful and cheap, yet they’re steadily on the increase as people are starting to realise that vintage glass is unique. The Helios is no acceptation, as it can create even wilder bokeh when the stars manage to align. Wide open at F2, it is often soft and ethereal, with no real sharpness until one stops down to F4. Above is a Volkswagen Golf GTI, but the often undesirable MK3. The first two GTIs were regarded as hot hatches, yet the MK3 was a lot larger and cumbersome compared to previous generations. Just like the 300 GD, not a great deal of nice examples exist, so it is nice to see that some are still kicking around, 20-30 years after their release.
Sadly, 35mm film just isn’t the format for this project. It doesn’t match up to the resolution that 120 offers, as well as the visual aesthetic that the larger negatives bring along with it. I personally see no advantage to use 135 when 120 is far superior in terms of resolution, aesthetic and creative limitation. Each photograph costs a lot more, and there is a lot less of them, so one has to be able to selectively choose what makes the cut, instead of having some leeway of what can make the cut.

1970 Plymouth Superbird (Part 1 of 2)
Imagine finding your dream car when it was considered "just a used car".
The HEMI correct 18 spline box also comes with the car. The exhaust and fuel tank appear to have been replaced sometime in its history.
If you are looking for a genuine HEMI Superbird backed by a 4-speed transmission that you can actually drive and enjoy, this is it.

MOBILE MECHANICS EDINBURG MCALLEN
Because of their efficiency and durability, diesel engines have become the standard in powering our nation’s trucks and buses. Other heavy vehicles and mobile equipment, including bulldozers and cranes, also are powered by diesel engines, as are many commercial boats, passenger vehicles, pickups, and other work trucks. Diesel service technicians who service and repair these engines are commonly known as diesel mechanics.
Diesel mechanics handle many kinds of repairs. They may work on a vehicle’s electrical system, make major engine repairs, or retrofit exhaust systems with emission control systems to comply with pollution regulations.
Diesel engine maintenance and repair is becoming more complex as engines and other components use more electronic systems to control their operation. For example, fuel injection and engine timing systems rely heavily on microprocessors to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize harmful emissions. In most shops, workers often use hand-held or laptop computers to diagnose problems and adjust engine functions.
So, Mobile Mechanics Edinburg McAllen provides the best heavy duty diesel mechanic to the customers.

2018 Woodward Dream Cruise: What the Designers Actually Drive
Not everybody who works for GM, Ford, or FCA is a car nut. It’s not essential that the purchasing folks, legal staff, or door-hinge engineers bleed gasoline. But inside these companies’ design departments, the saturation of car nuts approaches 100 percent. GM Design fosters this fanaticism by encouraging every stylist, painter, and sculptor throughout the department to bring their babies out for a car show during the week before the Dream Cruise at its annual GM Design on Woodward show. And no, if you’re wondering, there’s no evidence of the cobbler’s children having no shoes in this crowd. We’ve got highlights.

1965 Chevrolet Impala Twin Turbo
Tony Churchwell, paint shop
Beneath the hood of this lovely Impala sport-roof sleeper adorned with lowly “283” engine badges beats the heart of an angry 6.2-liter LS3 Small Block being force-fed by a pair of giant Garrett turbos and intercoolers. Tony has yet to dyno this setup, but he runs consistent 10.60-second, 135-mph quarter-mile times. A super cool touch: Inside the cockpit he has a Samsung tablet magnet-mounted to the dash that uses a Bluetooth connection to an OBD port dongle that gives him several screens’ worth of engine gauge information. Using switches mounted in the ashtray, he can also toggle between 10 and 18 psi of boost pressure, the latter setting serving only when running racing fuel. One of his proudest moments: Beating a Hellcat with the 10-psi setting! Now that’s an ashtray application we can endorse!
1973 Dodge Dart Sport 340 “Convertriple”
Eric Louton, group leader, studio sculptors
Eric Louton bought this rare beauty 28 years ago shortly after he joined GM. This rust-free California car shows 63,000 miles on its stock 340 engine (mildly upgraded with a modern carb and intake) and has a four-speed manual transmission. That manual was an optional upgrade, and indeed this car has every available option except a rear window defroster (but who needed that in sunny California, anyway?). Architecturally, the Dart Sport was kind of a Plymouth Duster with a Dart front clip, and Eric’s has the rare fold-down rear seat and trunk compartment security panel (which encloses a space between the seatback and panel). Chrysler softly marketed this features as a “Convertriple” because of the three possible rear seat/trunk configurations. Eric has mounted a set of M-body Diplomat steelies with vintage dog dish hubcaps, but the stock rally wheels are safely stowed away.
1956 Chevrolet Bel Air
Anthony Saporita, sculptor in the Chevy studio
This almost entirely original California car has precisely the patina Anthony loves, and he intends to lovingly preserve it. The right front fender was in primer so he gave it the checker cab look himself, paying close attention to aligning the checkerboard stripe with  the chrome trim on the doors (it’s these types of details that civilian customizers sometimes miss but the design community obsesses over). For now it even runs the original 265 Small Block engine and an original-style two-speed Powerglide transmission from a ’57. Anthony contemplates upgrading to a bigger engine and front disc brakes, but there’s no plan to restore or alter the exterior.
1960/63 Chevrolet K10 Apache/Blazer Frankenstein
Patrick Ingram, clay sculptor, Buick exterior studio
Patrick remembers first wanting an original first-gen Chevy C/K pickup (1960–1966) at age 14. When he finally found a decent 1960 body 19 years ago, its chassis turned out to be junk. So he jacked up the body and rolled a 1973 K Blazer chassis underneath it. Somewhere along the line the hood got swapped out for one from a 1963 model. But because designers can never completely leave things the way they found them, Ingram has been accumulating parts and has a plan to “clean up the lines a bit” style-wise. He’s also thinking of building a much lower rear-drive chassis for it, utilizing Corvette suspension pieces, and he has a 6.0-liter engine from a 2005 van that will go into it. We hope to see the finished product at a future Design on Woodward show.
1968 Pontiac Firebird 428 Royal Bobcat Tribute
Jamie Greco, sculptor, Chevy/GMC studio
Jamie was tired of all the F-body big-block love going to the COPO Camaros from Yenko and Baldwin Motion and the like, so when he found this nice original 30,000-mile  1968 Firebird in Oregon, he decided to do something special with it. A resident of Royal Oak, Michigan, he has created a Royal Bobcat 428 Firebird of the sort that Ace Wilson’s Royal Pontiac of downtown Royal Oak built several of over the  years (he’s only aware of two ’68s, of which just one remains). The 428 was a replacement short-block from back in the day that he found in a parts department manager’s inventory. It’s dressed with a long-branch intake manifold as found on the Ram Air cars. The paint is all original, except for the new hood (with tach!). Other cool options include tilt-wheel and factory front disc brakes. He reports that the front suspension did not require any revision to support the larger engine.
1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce
Jeff Perkins, exterior designer, Chevrolet trucks
This beauty is all original, no restoration. Jeff found it in Italy and has had it for 16 years. “I always loved the car,” said Jeff, who spent a few years in Italy. The simplicity of the Pininfarina design, the performance required to earn the cloverleaf badging. It has its quirks—it is Italian, after all. Some of the ergonomics aren’t right. The footwell is so small, it barely accommodates three pedals, and Jeff removes his left shoe to better fit his feet into the small space. The car has a 2.0-liter engine and a five-speed manual. It gets driven a lot in the summer and has had few problems. It does feel smaller each year as the cars around him keep getting bigger. But then, of course, he is designing pickups as his day job.
1997 Toyota Supra
Brian Geiszler, interior designer for performance cars and now GMC Acadia
Brian picked up this used Supra after high school. First order of business: add a single 67mm precision turbo to the 3.0-liter V-6 that now puts out 700 horsepower. He also swapped out the automatic transmission for a six-speed manual, and the car now runs on E85. It is his weekend warrior, and sometimes he drives it to work. Brian is excited by the return of the Supra, but it has big shoes to fill in his opinion. He hopes it’s as powerful as a Z06 Corvette or Stingray, or at least easy to modify.
1977 Jeep Wagoneer
Eric Lindow, electrician apprentice
This Wagoneer, from the AMC days, was transformed into a Ghostbusters car when original movie actor Ernie Hudson, a Detroiter, was in the city for an event in 2014 and needed appropriate wheels. Lindow, who has a company called Ghostbusters Detroit, got a smashed Wagoneer from his mom’s garage, fixed it, painted it, equipped it, and bought lights, and a fitting vehicle was in play. Hudson added his signature to the dash.
1890s high wheel bicycle
Paul Jurewicz, painter in paint shop
We don’t think we could balance on it, let alone ride it, but Paul wanted a high-wheeler since he first saw one at Greenfield Village decades ago. He added some diversity to the car show mix with this rideable replica. The 1890s European carbide light is original, but the adjustable acetylene gas has been replaced with an electric candle. The 52-inch wheel is tricky to ride with no brake and no way to reach the ground to stop with your foot. But it is not tippy, and Paul has enjoyed this ride for 40 years now and has invested in a horn to warn anyone in his way.

BACKGROUND:
Robert John Cook is a Writer, and first time Director. Robert is the direct descendant of Iyanough, Wampanoag Nation. In the year 1620, Iyanough greeted the Pilgrims on The Mayflower at Plymouth Rock. As the Author of his book ‘Optimistic Vibe’, Robert John Cook is an activist promoting Ancient Elder’s Teachings through Social Architeture addressing social concerns to establish a ‘Different Pie’.
During the years 2011 through 2015, Robert John Cook attended weekly consultations with the University of Massachusetts, and University of Hawai’i, Small Business Development Network, to detail and introduce ‘Social Architecture’ as a re-invented business model that focuses on today’s social concerns – the ‘Different Pie’.
Action speaks louder than words, and it is for this reason that the power of film can be the ultimate educational tool in providing clarity of Social Architecture in practice through application.
As a Wamponaog, Robert John Cook stands on the shoulders of his Ancient Elders with a vision of ‘One Native’ being a quality film documentary, and delivery of massage, that Winona LaDuke would endorse.
The voice of the Ancient Elders, and the importance of their Teachings was displaced with the introduction of Industrial Revolution. As the Industrial Age comes to a close, the importance of the Ancient Elders Teachings is playing an important role with many of today’s young people as they experience their ‘native awakening’.
More so than a book of words, ‘One Native’ film documentary provides the viewer to feel the action, energy, and inspiration as an educational tool of awareness and advocacy.
‘One Native’ film documentary will make a positive difference.
As a useful tool, the purpose of ‘One Native’ film documentary is to help project the voice of young people that truly want to make the world a better place by providing them the resources, tools, and platform to apply social architecture to social concerns that impact them.
The power of filmmaking, the purpose of Sundance, the ability to provide young people with the hands on support of Elders is the educational direction ‘One Native’ stands behind.
The purpose of ‘One Native’ film documentary is to give our young people a voice and format to address the social issues that concern them, to share their stories, and allow others the insight into what young people really stand for.
The voice of the native has for years been softened by the roar of industrial machinery that has led to an all time high of social depression. It is from social depression that too many social concerns have emerged. It is from the beauty of the Ancient Elders that we learn how to apply the ‘shoulder to the wheel’ to make a positive difference through our indigeneity.
There are 7.5 Billion people in the world today, and each one of us is native in origin. ‘One Native’ film documentary is suggesting to all that each of us reach inside our native pride and apply our Ancient Elders Teachings to a social concern that affects us, our environment, and our community.
‘One Native’ film documentary is proud to approach Sundance with our project because both projects are aligned in the same goal: Provide a generation of up-and-coming indigenous individuals brave enough to undertake what it means to be a contemporary native with the resources, tools, and platform to make the world a better place through awareness, advocacy, and hand-on accomplishment.
Research suggests that 12% today’s young indigenous people desire to have their voices heard. It is the intent of ‘One Native’ film documentary to provide them the megaphone for them to speak to the world.
‘One Native’ film documentary would be honored with being selected for the Native Lab Short Film Production Fellowship because it would open the door for an opportunity to meet a young native filmmaker with the passion to make a name for themselves with the purpose of the ‘One native’ film documentary to speak Winona LaDuke’s statement.
Although the grant of $10,000 would be deeply appreciated (and we could definitely put the grant to good use), the real objective of our application to the Native Lab Short Film Production Fellowship is to get our project in front of a young native filmmaker and inspire their passion to put their name on the ‘One Native’ film documentary as a function of their talented and creative expression.
Through Sundance and the Native Lab Short Film Production Fellowship we hope to discover a young native filmmaker that is inspired to make their film as a team of us apply examples of Social Architecture by addressing five social concerns that impact the native spirit today: Cultural Sovereignty, Child Abuse through Oppression, Homelessness, Social Depression, and Suicide.
The ‘One Native’ film documentary is being financed through revenue streams that we designed with assistance from the University of Massachusetts, and University of Hawai’i, Small Business Development Network. For specific information regarding the financing of ‘One Native’ please refer to our website (www.OptimisticVibe.com). The young native filmmaker we seek will be paid $25/hour to create the film documentary, and housing in Hawai’i will be provided during production.
‘One Native’ film documentary has only one mission: Inspire a young native filmmaker to step forward with their creative passion, provide them the opportunity to attend the Native Lab Short Film Production Fellowship with the ‘One Native project.
‘One Native’ has the ability to forever be the piece that catalyzed a young native filmmaker’s voice and direction in narrative filmmaking for making the world a better place.
Through Ancient Elder’s Teachings the ‘One Native’ will be the impact of our voices, visions, and roles of native people around the world addressing social concerns that affect us.
The importance of ‘One Native’ is realized by people working together as cast and crew, a ‘One Hand Up’ opportunity.
Sundance has provided an elevation in Native cinema, which is the spirit within ‘One Native’ that advances our social movement, the very opportunity gives our audience the joyful feeling of connecting with native pride.
Those who have lived with it can only nurture this spirit – it is our ancestors and common people.
‘One Native’ is the spirit of Iyanough, it is believed by many of us working on the project that Iyanough walks with us, and opens doors for us. It is in this context that we look at the Native Filmmaker Lab to allow emerging native filmmakers to explore their creative direction and provide them an opportunity to express their vision with their passion for our collective native voice.
‘One Native’ is in need of a fellowship where our young native filmmaker is advised by professional filmmakers. We consider working with Sundance and the Native Filmmaker Lab an honor that provides our young native filmmaker the opportunity to network with producers, professionals, and creative community of individuals dedicated to film.
From Plymouth Rock to Standing Rock, ‘One Native’ is we the international indigenous people, we are unique, we are the beautiful people of our Ancient Elder’s Teachings.
‘One Native’ augments the narrative of our voice as we apply Ancient Elder’s Teachings through the amazing efforts around the world as indigenous people Awaken, prompting importance to explore how to combine filmmaking with technology to unite young native filmmakers around the world through collaboration to impact the social concerns that affect us today.
‘One Native’ is needed, we as native people always have been, and we always will be, the heart of care.
Our spirits are alive in ‘One Native’, opening doors for the stories that need to be told, native social concerns being addressed through Social Architecture, our people having a voice to express their kindness to other, just like our Ancient Elder’s ask of us.
