There are a lot of differences between self-published authors and those working with a publishing house, but when it comes to book marketing, we’re all in the same boat. At a time when many authors find their marketing stipend barely covers the basics, writers of every stripe need to know how to market their own work effectively. If you have some money to splash around, you have a few options (such as marketing services and book trailers), but if your funds are limited, you need to know about guerrilla marketing.
That’s why, in this two-part article, I’ll be taking a look at exactly that. Here in part 1, we’ll talk about what guerrilla marketing is and how it works, while in part 2, we’ll look at the tips and specific techniques you can employ as a guerrilla marketer. So, apply your camouflage, keep low, and let’s get started.
What is guerrilla marketing?
A guerrilla fighter is someone fighting a lopsided war with limited equipment and little backup from any larger organization. Self-publishing authors are definitely guerrillas entering the fight for readers, but authors working with publishing houses can also find that they’re handed limited resources and left to sort things out for themselves.
Guerrilla marketing is all about doing a lot with a little, and for authors that means an approach built on two core concepts:
Spending time and effort instead of money,
Choosing tactics that offer maximum reward for limited input.
When it comes to the first concept, there isn’t much to say that we didn’t cover in Nobody Beats The Triangle, But You Can Be Prepared For It: you can use time and effort to make up for a small budget, but you have to plan ahead to do so well. Of course, time and effort are limited, and that’s where we come to the second core concept.
Guerrilla marketing uses sparse resources to incredible effect.CLICK TO TWEET
It’s not enough to just plug away at your marketing. You can only do so much, and at a certain level, money can achieve a reach that one person’s maximum effort just can’t. That means that you need to be pouring the resources you do have into the actions that will give you the biggest reward. For example, getting forty random people to read your book is nothing compared to putting it in the hands of one prominent book blogger. Likewise, a marketing campaign targeted at a group likely to be interested in your subject matter has far more value than a bigger campaign with a more general focus.
In this way, it’s not enough to keep working and hope for the best; you have to work smart and hard, and neither really works without the other. But that assumes that guerrilla marketing works at all, so the question is… does it?
What guerrilla marketing does
Marketing doesn’t work quite how many people think, especially at different levels. For the biggest sellers, advertising isn’t about persuading someone to buy a product. When Coke advertise, they’re usually not trying to make you think Coke is a good product; they’re already big enough that they achieved that, so their advertising is geared more towards remaining ubiquitous. The big sellers just need to keep reminding customers that they exist – that they’re available for whoever wants them. Then, whenever the customer goes to buy that type of product, it’s their brand that comes to mind. Get big enough and potential customers don’t think ‘I want a soda’, they think ‘I want a Coke’.
This may sound specific to a certain type of product, but it’s also true for fiction. At this point, J.K. Rowling doesn’t need to advertise how good her work is. The brand is so big that it’s more effective to simply focus on telling people there’s something new under its umbrella (and if they can also attract potential new readers, that’s a good secondary goal). Rowling sold a huge number of scripts for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, even though it’s a medium with which many readers have no familiarity. As long as she keeps up a stream of new ‘products’ and the standard doesn’t dip enough to drive away her base, her marketing only ever has to say ‘remember me?’ This is why so many book adverts for established authors are along the lines of ‘The NEW book by X’; the brand is big enough that it’s doing the selling for them.
Different products rely on different types of marketing, and self-published authors shouldn’t be using the same tactics as bestsellers.CLICK TO TWEET
That’s not what guerrilla marketing is about, and it’s not something you’re going to be able to achieve on your own. Likewise, guerrilla marketing isn’t – and stick with me here – about finding individual readers.
This is the domain of mid-size marketing; people see your advert and they know your book is for sale, maybe they’ll buy it. This is the type of marketing where it’s worth putting billboards in train stations – with enough money, widespread marketing brings in enough readers to pay for itself.
This type of marketing isn’t usually that effective for books (unless they have a specific, unique role that lodges in people’s heads), and it’s not really feasible for guerrilla marketers. It’s hard for one person to advertise their book so widely that the number of readers they get back justifies the effort.
Instead, guerrilla marketing is effective as a cumulative effort. It doesn’t just net individual readers (though, again, that’s a good secondary goal), it creates an environment in which your book is being discussed. Ideally, it turns the people who encounter the marketing directly into your salespeople.
In marketing his book The Neal Pollack Anthology of American Literature, the titular author held a reading in a train station bathroom. The aim wasn’t to advertise to the few people who attended, but rather to create the type of story that news outlets would be hungry to report, and report they did. Pollack reached a huge audience with his work, communicating its irreverent nature and setting it up as a talking point; a level of marketing success far in excess of his budget or even time commitment.
Modern marketing has more than one audience, and the first isn’t always the biggest.CLICK TO TWEET
A less creative example might be a carefully calculated competition. Offer an interesting prize, extend the competition long enough to get people talking about it (and your work), and you reach a host of people for the cost of rewarding one. Ideally, you’ll also have a compelling website to direct them to and be collecting the email addresses of entrants to form a mailing list. Maybe your prize, or the conditions of the competition, are even unique enough to get you some press.
This is where guerrilla marketing works; carefully considered, meticulously executed moves that make the most of your time, money, and effort. I’ll get on to exactly how you can apply that logic in part 2 of this article, but for now, let’s close by looking at a case study of great guerrilla marketing in action.
The success of Masquerade
In 1979, Kit Williams published Masquerade, a book of art that tells the story of a hare delivering a splendid necklace to the sun. Concerned that people didn’t focus on the details in art books, and challenged by publisher Tom Maschler to do something new, Williams created a book that was also a treasure hunt. With the release of the book, Williams declared that he had also created the golden necklace from the story, and that the book contained all the information anyone could need to find it.
The story of the treasure hunt itself, and how the book worked as a set of clues, is fascinating (and skillfully related here), but suffice to say that Williams’ announcement was a staggering piece of guerrilla marketing. Williams couldn’t have foreseen the interest that would be aroused or how long the story would remain in the public consciousness, with news reports (and thus more advertising) breaking out whenever someone had a wild theory. Indeed, even the controversy surrounding how the treasure hunt was eventually resolved catapulted it back into public consciousness. For his time, effort, and skill, Williams sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, and books (like Bamber Gascoigne’s Quest for the Golden Hare) have even been written about the process itself.
Creativity doesn’t have to stop with the book itself – artistic marketing is both possible and effective.CLICK TO TWEET
In the computer age, this type of marketing is even more effective. Since fans can now communicate across great distance, ‘game’ marketing can create communities and arouse huge interest for comparatively little input, as was the case with Alex Hirsch’s Gravity Falls: Journal 3, which relied on a variety of code-breaking and treasure-hunting activities to create a vocal, close-knit community of fans. (Something I talked about in Want A Cult Following? Hide Secrets In Your Writing.)
With blogs, Youtube channels, and even major news outlets hungry for content, the right piece of guerrilla marketing can be an absolute game changer.
Guerrilla warfare
So, that’s why you should consider guerrilla marketing and the logic behind some of the most successful tactics in the marketplace. Next, check out Everything You Need To Know About Guerrilla Book Marketing – Part 2, in which we’ll dive into how you can design and carry out your own successful guerrilla marketing.

10 Social Media Management Tips for Small Business Owners
Tumblr media
Developing great social media management services for small businesses removes a lot of uncertainty from your marketing approach. When it comes to social media success, a little forethought goes a long way. Because of the increased consumer use of platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, businesses can no longer afford to ignore social media management. There are several opportunities for you to reach out to potential consumers.
On average, people spend 145 minutes every day on social media for social media management services! That’s a big window of opportunity for you to get potential clients’ attention. That’s a significant window of opportunity for you to get the attention of potential clients.
Because you don’t have a marketing crew ready to tackle every platform, you must be judicious in how you spend your time and ad budget.
Not to worry! Social media management for small company owners does not have to be difficult; simply follow the advice in this article.
Instead of avoiding social media management services, let’s look at how to develop social media management for small businesses that can help you reach your development objectives.
10 simple social media management for beginners and small business owners-
Set SMART objectives
The abbreviation SMART stands for specified, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. This aids goal planning since you know exactly what you’re attempting to do and when you expect to complete it. Make sure your objectives are attainable. It may be unrealistic to expect your social media approach to immediately raise your sales by 10%, but raising email sign-ups is far more doable. Social media is largely used to increase brand exposure, trust, and familiarity with your products and services.
2. Do only a few things well
To keep up with all the platforms, some small business owners become overwhelmed by the notion that they must transform into a media firm generating films, blogs, and podcasts. They try to execute all available small company social media marketing methods and wind up spreading themselves too thin. If you only focus on expanding your business on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram, it will be a lot easier to manage than using all of the social networks at once. Remember that quality comes first and quantity comes second.
Although active accounts often have a greater interaction rate, when it comes to social media, it’s all about what works best for your clientele. Effective social media management is one in which you reach out to interested customers, convert them into brand followers, and get them involved in what you do.
3. Recognize Your Audience
Using social media for small companies is all about getting to know your customers and publishing what they care about.
The easiest method to increase your social media popularity is to share useful information that benefits your clients in some manner. Conduct some research to see whose accounts they follow and what posts they enjoy and share. This will offer you a better understanding of what is important to them.
4. Collaborate with Others in Your Industry
Connecting with other individuals in your niche is an excellent method to reach a new audience. Collaborate with micro-influencers and other people in your industry that you like. Share their material to help you become a part of your industry’s larger community. This does not necessarily imply that you must share content from direct rivals. Connect with other industry thought leaders.
Social media isn’t just for providing information to clients; you can also participate in a larger discourse. For example, if you sell healthy snacks, why not team up with a food blogger to provide some healthy recipes?
5. Begin Conversations
Join the conversation once you’ve determined what your audience enjoys discussing.
Your postings should be informational, inspiring, and promotional in nature, with a call to action. Encourage your fans to connect with your brand.
Ask them questions, solicit their feedback, and discuss topics that elicit strong emotions. Whatever business you’re in, there’s a feature of your product or service that is linked to a sensation or experience that your ideal client desires.
What you sell as a business coach is a confidence, peace of mind, and success. All of these are emotional themes. Posting about your idea of success and allowing others to contribute theirs is an excellent approach to connecting with your audience.
6. Plan Out Your Posts
When you own a business, every minute matters! Consistent posting informs potential clients that you take your business seriously, and they should as well. But how can you keep consistent when your to-do list is as big as an octopus arm? (Yes, arm; octopuses lack tentacles!)
Make technology your best friend by posting ahead of time. This keeps you constant while also saving you time. If everything is planned, you won’t get sidetracked by browsing through your feed instead of posting and returning to work.
7. How Frequently Should You Post?
Many small company owners wonder how frequently they should post on social media while developing a social media plan.
It depends, is the response. It is determined by the social media platforms you utilize and the message you wish to convey to your audience.
Here are some general rules for how frequently you should post on social media:
Instagram: frequent updates and daily stories will increase engagement and conversation.
Facebook: once a day is a plenty; if you overpost, your clients will get disengaged!
Twitter: plan many Tweets each day during times when you know your audience will be online.
LinkedIn: Share useful information multiple times each week; video content works well on LinkedIn.
8. Paid Posts on Social Media for Small Businesses
When you think about it, paying a small amount to reach a warm audience is likely to provide greater results than paying a large sum to reach individuals who have never heard of you.
So, although everyone is talking about increasing their organic reach, you can be certain that you can easily reach the majority of your existing audience for a fraction of the ad cost.
9. Pivot and Experiment
Nobody gets it properly on the first try. There are several methods to make social media work for you; the key is determining what is appropriate for your clients.
The only way to know for sure is to begin. Experiment with a variety of things! Every small business’s social media plan should incorporate some A/B testing. Experiment with alternative techniques and content kinds for additional platforms.
Display two separate advertisements to the same audience. Then examine the results to determine which technique worked the best and had the most engagement. Use the free analytics tools that are included into each of the social media networks. This is a simple method for viewing your engagement and conversion statistics.
Create more of the sort of content that works best for your brand once you’ve identified it. However, try to be innovative and new.
10. Remember to include links and CTAs in your social profiles and posts.
CTA is an abbreviation for “Call to Action.” CTAs are essential for driving conversions and leads via social media. Include a call to action on the majority of your social media material (examples: “swipe up,” “tap to shop,” “tap here,” “visit the link in our bio,” “visit website,” “sign up,” and so on), and be sure to include an action button on your social media biographies to direct clients to your website, a signup page, or whatever you want them to do. or any critical piece of information you want them to view.
CONCLUSION-
The foundation of effective social media management for small businesses is the constant delivery of high-quality content. Consistent does not always imply “a lot.” It is critical that you develop a rhythm that works for both your audience and you in order to continue offering value in an intriguing and enjoyable manner. Engage them in conversation. Use trial and error; it is acceptable to make errors!
Strong social media marketing services for small company owners are critical to long-term success. You won’t waste hours of your valuable time trying to figure out what to do about your social channels if you have a solid plan in place.

What Is Keyword Roll in SEO?
While Google causes us to remain alert with all the calculation refreshes they keep rollin' out, one thing has remained really predictable for inbound advertisers hoping to improve their sites for search: watchword research.
Indeed, the need to do catchphrase research has remained the equivalent. How you really do it hasn't.
What Is Keyword Research?
Watchword research is the way toward finding and examining search terms that individuals go into web indexes with the objective of utilizing that information for a particular reason, frequently for site improvement (SEO) or general promoting. Watchword exploration can reveal inquiries to focus on, the fame of postulations questions, their positioning trouble, and that's just the beginning.
Why Is Keyword Research Important?
Catchphrase research gives significant understanding into the questions that your intended interest group is really looking on Google. The understanding that you can get into these genuine hunt terms can help educate content technique just as your bigger advertising methodology. Notwithstanding, watchwords themselves may not be as critical to SEO as you may might suspect.
To an ever increasing extent, we hear the amount SEO has developed over simply the most recent 10 years, and how immaterial watchwords themselves have become to our capacity to rank well for the hunts individuals make each day.
→ Download Now: SEO Starter Pack [Free Kit]
Also, somewhat, this is valid; utilizing watchwords that precisely coordinate an individual's hunt is not, at this point the most significant positioning variable according to a SEO proficient. Or maybe, it's the plan behind that watchword, and whether a bit of substance tackles for that purpose (we'll talk more about goal in one moment).
However, that doesn't mean watchword research is an obsolete cycle. Allow me to clarify:
Catchphrase research mentions to you what subjects individuals care about and, expecting you utilize the privilege SEO apparatus, how well known those points really are among your crowd. The employable term here is subjects - by investigating catchphrases that are getting a high volume of searches every month, you can recognize and sort your substance into themes that you need to make content on. At that point, you can utilize these themes to direct which watchwords you search for and target.
The most effective method to Research Keywords for Your SEO Strategy
I will spread out a catchphrase research measure you can follow to assist you with thinking of a rundown of terms you ought to target. That way, you'll have the option to build up and execute a solid watchword system that encourages you get found for the hunt terms you really care about.
Stage 1: Make a rundown of significant, important points dependent on what you think about your business.
To commence this cycle, consider the points you need to rank for regarding nonexclusive basins. You'll concoct around 5-10 point pails you believe are critical to your business, and afterward you'll utilize those theme cans to help think of some particular watchwords later simultaneously.
In case you're a standard blogger, these are likely the themes you blog about most every now and again. Or then again maybe they're the subjects that surface the most in deals discussions. Put yourself in the shoes of your purchaser personas - what kinds of themes would your intended interest group search that you'd need your business to get found for? On the off chance that you were an organization like HubSpot, for instance - selling promoting programming (which happens to have some magnificent SEO instruments... however, I diverge), you may have general point pails like:
• "inbound promoting" (21K)
• "blogging" (19K)
• "email promoting" (30K)
• "lead age" (17K)
• "SEO" (214K)
• "social media promoting" (71K)
• "marketing investigation" (6.2K)
• "marketing robotization" (8.5K)
See those numbers in enclosures to one side of every catchphrase? That is their month to month search volume. This information permits you to measure how significant these subjects are to your crowd, and the number of various sub-themes you may need to make content on to be fruitful with that watchword. To become familiar with these sub-points, we move onto stage 2 ...
Stage 2: Fill in those subject cans with catchphrases.
Since you have a couple of subject cans you need to zero in on, it's an ideal opportunity to recognize a few catchphrases that fall into those cans. These are watchword phrases you believe are critical to rank for in the SERPs (web index results pages) on the grounds that your objective client is likely leading looks for those particular terms.
For example, in the event that I took that last point pail for an inbound promoting programming organization - "showcasing robotization" - I'd conceptualize some watchword states that I figure individuals would type in identified with that theme. Those might include:
• marketing mechanization apparatuses
• how to utilize advertising mechanization programming
• what is advertising mechanization?
• how to tell in the event that I need advertising mechanization programming
• lead sustaining
• email advertising mechanization
• top mechanization apparatuses
Etc, etc. The purpose of this progression isn't to concocted your last rundown of catchphrase phrases. You simply need to wind up with a cerebrum dump of expressions you figure potential clients may use to look for content identified with that specific theme can. We'll limit the rundowns down later all the while so you don't have something excessively inconvenient.
Albeit an ever increasing number of watchwords are getting scrambled by Google each day, another savvy approach to think of catchphrase thoughts is to sort out which watchwords your site is as of now getting found for. To do this, you'll need site investigation programming like Google Analytics or HubSpot's Sources report, accessible in the Traffic Analytics instrument. Drill down into your site's traffic sources, and filter through your natural pursuit traffic pail to recognize the watchwords individuals are utilizing to show up at your site.
Rehash this activity for the same number of point cans as you have. Furthermore, recollect, in case you're experiencing difficulty thinking of pertinent hunt terms, you can generally head on over to your client confronting partners - the individuals who are in Sales or Service - and solicit them what types from terms their possibilities and clients use, or normal inquiries they have. Those are regularly incredible beginning stages for watchword research.
Stage 3: Understand How Intent Affects Keyword Research and Analyze Accordingly.
Like I said in the past area, client aim is presently one of the most urgent variables in your capacity to rank well on web crawlers like Google. Today, it's more significant that your page tends to the issue a searcher proposed to comprehend than basically conveys the catchphrase the searcher utilized. Things being what they are, how does this influence the watchword research you do?
It's anything but difficult to take watchwords for face esteem, and tragically, catchphrases can have a wide range of implications underneath the surface. Since the expectation behind a hunt is so essential to your positioning potential, you should be extra-cautious how you decipher the catchphrases you target.
Suppose, for instance, you're investigating the watchword "how to begin a blog" for an article you need to make. "Blog" can mean a blog entry or the blog site itself, and what a searcher's goal is behind that catchphrase will impact the heading of your article. Does the searcher need to figure out how to begin an individual blog entry? Or then again would they like to realize how to really dispatch a site space for the motivations behind writing for a blog? In the event that your substance procedure is just focusing on individuals inspired by the last mentioned, you'll have to ensure the watchword's plan before focusing on it.
To check what a client's purpose is in a watchword, it's a smart thought to just enter this catchphrase into an internet searcher yourself, and see what kinds of results come up. Ensure the sort of substance Google is firmly identified with what you'd mean to make for the catchphrase.
Stage 4: Research related pursuit terms.
This is an inventive advance you may have just idea of while doing catchphrase research. If not, it's an extraordinary method to round out those rundowns.
In case you're battling to consider more watchwords individuals may be looking about a particular subject, investigate the related hunt terms that show up when you plug in a catchphrase into Google. At the point when you type in your expression and look to the lower part of Google's outcomes, you'll notice a few proposals for look through identified with your unique info. These watchwords can start thoughts for different catchphrases you might need to think about.
Stage 5: Use watchword research devices for your potential benefit.
Watchword examination and SEO instruments, for example, Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Ubersuggest can assist you with thinking of more catchphrase thoughts dependent on accurate match catchphrases and expression coordinate watchwords dependent on the thoughts you've produced as yet. This activity may give you options that you probably won't have thought of.
The most effective method to Find and Choose Keywords for Your Website
When you have a thought of the catchphrases that you need to rank for, presently it's an ideal opportunity to refine your rundown dependent on the best ones for your system. Here's the secret:
Stage 1. Comprehend the three principle factors for picking great watchwords.
Before picking watchwords and anticipating that your substance should rank for them, you should clergyman catchphrases for three things:
1. Importance
Google positions content for importance. This is the place the idea of search goal comes in. Your substance will possibly rank for a catchphrase in the event that it addresses the searchers' issues. Furthermore, your substance must be the best asset out there for the question. All things considered, for what reason would Google rank your substance higher on the off chance that it gives less an incentive than other substance that exists on the web?
2. Authority
Google will give more weight to sources it esteems legitimate. That implies you should do everything you can to turn into a legitimate source by enhancing your site with accommodating, data content and elevating that substance to gain social signs and backlinks. In case you're not seen as legitimate in the space, or if a catchphrase's SERPs are stacked with weighty sources you can't rival (like Forbes or The Mayo Clinic), you have a lower possibility of positioning except if your substance is excellent.
3. Volume
You may wind up positioning on the principal page for a particular catchphrase, yet in the event that nobody actually looks for it, it won't resul

How to Write a Testimonial in 2020: 7 Tips (+ 9 Examples)
Want to learn how to write a great testimonial? One that’ll build trust with readers and woo potential customers (or clients)?
In this handy guide, you’ll learn:
The proven structure your testimonials should follow to increase conversion rates and land more jobs;
The importance of statistics, storytelling, and authenticity;
How to ask someone for a testimonial;
And much more.
Let’s dig right in…
Tip #1. Follow a Proven Structure
Sometimes, the best way to identify “good” is to figure out what “bad” looks like.
So, what does a bad testimonial look like?
Well, bad testimonials usually make one or more of these mistakes:
They lack credibility. Who is “John”? What does he do? And why doesn’t he have a photo?
Too outlandish to be believable. Did this person really help you go from zero to $1,000,000 in three days? Even if it is true, it will be hard for people to believe. Be a real person, not an infomercial.
They’re boring and generic. A testimonial that goes on and on about unrelated, meaningless details isn’t going to convince anyone to do anything. Neither will testimonials that lack detail or authenticity.
With this in mind, let’s go over the elements of a good, persuasive testimonial.
The Structure of a Great Testimonial
Good testimonials should include the person’s full name and photo. Adding their company name and what they do gives a testimonial additional credibility.
But the best testimonials also contain these four elements:
Clarity. They paint a clear before and after picture.
Purposefulness. They guide the reader towards an action.
Positivity. A testimonial isn’t a snarky review on TripAdvisor or Amazon — you want people to be honest, but you want the overall tone to be optimistic.
Focus. Don’t ramble. Stay on point.
Examples of Testimonials With Good Structure
Here’s an example of great testimonial structure from Marisa Mugatroyd’s Live Your Message:
Tumblr media
Full name and photo? Check. Clear, purposeful, positive, and focused? Definitely.
Here’s another good testimonial example (from Ahrefs’ newly-revamped homepage):
Tumblr media
Both of these testimonial examples nail the basics.
Yours should too.
Tip #2. Be Specific With Details
Words and phrases like “way up” and “it was good” are ambiguous and can mean anything.
Did an article get over 10,000 tweets and LinkedIn shares on social media? Did revenue increase by 30%?
Don’t be vague — if it’s so, say so. Testimonials with statistics are excellent social proof.
But keep in mind:
Statistics aren’t the only way to add details to a testimonial.
In fact, sometimes, you’ll be in situations where specific figures or numbers can’t be shared. In those instances, explain the details of the problem, concerns that existed beforehand, or share pertinent background info that paints a compelling before-and-after picture.
Details In Practice
Let’s compare two testimonials I’ve received:
“Nyaima was pleasant to work with. I would work with her again.”
That’s nice, but does this testimonial really tell you anything? Not really. Compare it to this one:
“Nyaima was not only easy to work with, but her communication was also excellent. She met every deadline, and also offered sound suggestions that added to the quality of each of our projects. Because of this, we were able to complete a project that generally takes six weeks in only four weeks.”
The details in this testimonial help you envision what it’s like to work with me. A potential client thinking about hiring me doesn’t have to guess how this other client benefited.
Tip #3. Pull on the Heartstrings
A heartfelt story can move even the most cold-hearted person.
Remember your favorite comic or fairy tale from your childhood, like Batman or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Each sentence reeled you in, line-by-line. You could relate to Batman’s losing his parents or the horrific treatment of Snow White, and you wanted to know how those situations would end.
There’s a reason for this — psychologist Lani Peterson says people are wired to pay attention to narratives and stories.
Translation? Telling a good story — one that weaves in narrative elements that sparks emotion within the reader, making them want to keep reading and take action — is a great way to craft a persuasive testimonial readers can relate to.
When your prospect relates to your customer testimonials, they take a step closer to working with you. They think, “wow, I have the same problem, maybe they can help me too” or “I am stuck at the same place, maybe working with this person will give me similar results.”
And one of the best ways to capture genuine emotion and story elements is using video testimonials. When done well, they instantly build trust with potential clients.
Storytelling In Practice
Airbnb rocks storytelling in their series featuring Airbnb hosts. They successfully display the humanity of hosts that prospects can relate to:
youtube
Here is another masterful demonstration by Intel:
youtube
The story is so rich, you can barely tell it’s a testimonial.
Tip #4. Be Authentic (But Don’t be Boring)
Have you ever read a college dissertation?
No offense to the hard-working women and men who pour countless hours into them, but they are not my first choice to read. They’re dry, clinical, and cerebral — all the things you don’t want your testimonial to be.
Boring testimonials will put your prospects to sleep. And prospects who are asleep can’t take action.
But it’s not enough to simply not be boring. Your testimonial needs to be truthful and authentic too.
That means being genuine, sounding natural, and using conversational words. Your goal is to spark internal conversation within the reader. And to do that, every word in a testimonial must be true.
Remember, when someone reads a testimonial you want them to relate, they should say, “Man, he or she sounds just like me.”
That’s why slang works and stringent grammatical rules don’t have to be followed. As long as the point can be understood and it is not an unintentional typo, leave it alone. The flaw adds realness.
Authenticity In Practice
Here’s an effective testimonial that Smart Blogger’s Kevin J. Duncan gave to Henneke Duistermaat for her copywriting course:
Tumblr media
From his testimonial, you can (accurately) surmise that Kevin has probably known Henneke for a while, which makes his words feel genuine.
Tip #5. Use the Right Testimonial, at the Right Time, in the Right Place
There are several types of testimonials, but I’m going to focus on the big three:
Persuasive Testimonials. These demonstrate the impact the service had on the client or customer.
Overcome Objections. These are testimonials that speak directly to common objections and diffuse them.
Success Stories. These are miniature case studies where people share positive outcomes and happy endings.
Though they share the common goal of reducing resistance, each type of testimonial is most effective in different circumstances.
The Right Time
If you want to defeat objections, implement testimonials that address potential resistance on your sales page.
If a prospect sees another customer had similar concerns that were overcome, it will boost their confidence that moving forward with you is a good choice.
The Right Place
Avoid old school testimonial pages.
Most people only scan websites, and few visitors make it to a testimonials page. This is why you want testimonials sprinkled throughout your site to solidify your marketing messages.
Best placement:
Homepage
Product page (think of Amazon)
Sales and landing pages
Most popular page of your site (other than your homepage)
Inside emails, newsletters, print materials, and blog posts
Right Time, Right Place In Practice
Ramit Sethi, best selling author and creator of I Will Teach You To Be Rich, is a master at strategic placement and timing. Check out how he addresses potential objections using testimonials in his email sales sequence:
Tumblr media
By implementing the right timing and placement, you seem like a mind-reader, answering the questions and objections of your prospects, moving them one step further in your sales process.
Tip #6. The Art of the Ask
Knowing the structure and components of a good testimonial is fantastic, but it won’t matter if you don’t have any testimonials to share.
Testimonials don’t automatically come unless you ask for them or put a system in place to keep them rolling in.
Similar to sales, people get timid when it comes to asking for testimonials. They feel like they are being a nuisance. But when you deliver superb services to a client, this is a small ask.
Why not remove all friction points and make it easy for you and them?
Ramit does a good job minimizing pressure by providing a template when he asks someone for a testimonial. He understands that even though your satisfied customers want to help, they are busy, and may be plagued by blank screen syndrome. A plug-and-play template remedies that.
Another option is to simply write the testimonial yourself and ask the contact to revise it, as needed.
How to Ask for Testimonials
Ramit uses the following script to request testimonials:
Tumblr media
Her Business gives clients a simple plug-and-play template to complete:
Tumblr media
And this leads us to the final tip…
Tip #7. Automation Makes it Easy
Savvy entrepreneurs and business owners systemize and automate as much of the collection and writing of testimonials as possible.
So should you. Collecting testimonials should be embedded in your business.
For example, Marisa Murgatroyd has a system that gets her a steady flow of testimonials — the “ask” is embedded right into the completion of her courses.
Students provide a testimonial as part of their graduation process. This process has landed her over 700 pages of testimonials that she can use in every area of her marketing.
You don’t have to copy her exact method, of course. Every system will vary based on your particular business. The key is to take friction points away that may interfere with you getting great testimonials, and to automate as many parts of the process as possible.
It’s Time to Write Persuasive Testimonials
No matter who you are or what you do, a well-written testimonial is a powerful tool that can boost your credibility.
In this post, you learned about the proven structure of powerful testimonials, as well the essential ingredients needed to turn good testimonials into great ones.
Now it’s time to put what you learned into action.
Want to build trust with your readers? Want to boost your credibility to potential customers or clients?
Testimonials are the answer.
Go get them!

In-House Upskilling: Is Amazon’s Strategy a Smart Move?
EDITOR’S NOTE:  Because extended enterprise learning involves multiple disciplines, we sometimes ask other experts to share their insights. Today we feature advice from Daniel Newman, Principal Analyst at Futurum Research and CEO of Broadsuite Media Group. Daniel is an author, speaker, blogger and educator who works with leading technology brands to help businesses around the world embrace the benefits of digital transformation.
Is Corporate Learning Ready to Fill the Skills Gap?
For years, I’ve wondered if digital transformation would make today’s colleges and universities irrelevant. That day may be coming sooner than any of us think.
Case in point: Recently, Amazon announced that it’s investing $700 million to upskill 100,000 of its employees, so they can work more successfully in today’s fluid digital business environment. These upskilling efforts are expected to involve employees in all functional areas of the company and at all experience levels.
Tumblr media
RSVP FOR OUR LIVE DECEMBER WEBINAR NOW!
This kind of commitment is bold. But here’s what’s even more impressive. Amazon isn’t sending these employees to graduate school or other external institutions.
Instead, participants will develop new knowledge and skills at the company’s own Amazon Technical Academy and Machine Learning University.
What Can Amazon’s Upskilling Plan Teach Us?
The concept seems straightforward enough. Amazon aims to make technical education more accessible by letting employees participate in relevant classes, pursue job-related apprenticeships and earn certificates that qualify them for new positions elsewhere in the company or beyond.
The scope of this initiative is huge. One in three Amazon employees will engage in upskilling to become more technically proficient in their current position – whether they’re a marketing professional, business analyst, warehouse supervisor or coding specialist.
Why is one of the world’s best-known employers making such a massive upskilling commitment? Amazon’s leaders realize that every job is essentially a technical job in today’s marketplace. The company’s future depends on the competency of its employees, and Amazon can no longer rely on other sources to train its workers effectively.
Breaking Down the Amazon Upskilling Investment
What does this new corporate learning strategy suggest about the future of work? And how is it likely to impact the rest of us?
First, let’s break it down. The $700 million Amazon upskilling investment is tied to a broader workforce initiative that includes employee benefits like a higher minimum wage ($15 per hour), 401K and parental leave. Even if the entire budget were applied to training alone, the investment would equal about $7,000 per employee – not that much, by corporate training standards.
This makes me wonder if the initiative is really as ambitious as it sounds. Or perhaps digital transformation will help individuals realize that they’re overpaying academic institutions for education that employers don’t need.
Either way, with such a low initial per-employee investment, Amazon will likely need to continue upskilling employees on a regular basis.
Will Non-Technical Workers Still Fit-In?
Amazon has made it clear that both technical and nontechnical employees will participate in training – but every job is becoming more technical. That means there will be a need to develop non-technical business competencies such as critical thinking, leadership, public speaking and other soft skills.
However, as Amazon sees it, people with soft skills will also need at least some technical acumen if they want to play a valuable role in advancing the company’s agenda.

Of course, this is true for all of us outside of Amazon, as well. Data fluency and technical competency are essential for any organization that wants to embrace digital transformation. So employees who want to help their company leverage new technologies will need to develop technical acumen, regardless of their professional focus.
For example, consider human resources specialists. To be more effective, they should learn how to leverage automated tools and AI technology to recruit and retain employees.
Mastery of coding, itself, isn’t required. However, a new level of technical understanding is important for HR professionals who want to achieve better results.
This kind of technical comfort and capability is vital for anyone working in 2019 or beyond.
How Can Smaller Businesses Compete?
Clearly, not every company is Amazon. Many don’t have the resources to build their own on-campus technical university. But what happens when an employer can’t afford to offer this kind of upskilling benefit? And what if effective training programs aren’t available in the local community?
Let me frame those questions another way. Which employer would you choose?
A larger company where free upskilling is always available, so you can sharpen relevant skills on an ongoing basis, or
A smaller company that asks you to find your own skill development outside of the organization and pay for it yourself.
Truth be told, as digital transformation unfolds, the “haves” are separating themselves from the “have-nots.” It’s not just about having sufficient money to fund transformative efforts, but also about having the right people with the right skills.
And this need for technical acumen extends to the broader workforce at-large. For instance, demand is stronger for writers who know how to improve their content quality with apps like Grammarly, or how to increase their output with AI-powered productivity tools. Those who don’t master advanced technologies will ultimately accomplish less – and earn less – than technically savvy writers.
The same equation works for other functions. Jobs are becoming a challenge for anyone who hasn’t yet jumped on board the digital transformation skills train. That’s why employers are seeking creative solutions to close the gap.
Is In-House Upskilling Really The Answer?
Some believe Amazon’s upskilling initiative is just a bunch of hype. Cynics think it’s a PR stunt designed to get attention – which has happened. But as I said, $7,000 per employee isn’t a steep investment.
The result could be nothing more than a lot of static PowerPoint slide decks describing technical terms. On the other hand, it could lead to powerful learning experiences that revolutionize Amazon’s talent pool. Time will tell.
Meanwhile, here’s what we know:  Work is changing rapidly. Future-minded employers can’t afford to sit back and expect employees to prepare themselves for the coming skills mismatch.
Universities aren’t adapting swiftly enough. And Amazon is no longer willing to wait. So in a preemptive strike, the company has committed to bridging the skills gap on its own. This may not be easy for Amazon to accomplish. But acting now to develop a future-ready workforce could be a very smart business move, indeed.

16 Top Tips from Blogging Experts for Beginners https://ift.tt/2oCF3RZ
16 Top Tips from Blogging Experts for Beginners
I’ve heard blogging referred to a couple of times recently as a mixture between an art and a science. If this is true (and I think it is), there’s no ‘right way’ to approach blogging if you want to be successful. There are plenty of people who’ve done a great job of it though, and I thought it would be useful to learn from them.
These 16 bloggers shared one important tip each for blogging beginners. No doubt, even if you’re not a beginner these tips will probably prove to be useful.
1.       Get ideas from your audience
Create blog posts that answer the most interesting questions from people you engage with on social media.
This can be a great way to gather ideas of what topics people would most like to read about, which will help your blog grow! One of the best ways I’ve seen this in action is through blog comments or Tweets. In one example, here on FastCompany a lot of people requested a post that features more women entrepreneurs:
Now, a few weeks later adding such an article where just women contributed and built great businesses was a big hit:
2.       Understand your audience
Understand your audience better than they understand themselves. It takes a lot of upfront research, and often means being a member of the very tribe you’re trying to lead – but it pays off.
Understanding your audience better means you’ll have a better idea of what blog content will resonate with them, which is a good start when you get to writing blog posts.
A great technique for doing this is to simply ask your readers first on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with an engaging quote. If people respond well to it, than this is probably a great topic to write about. An example for this comes from Andrew Chen who famously “tests” his blogpost ideas on Twitter first.
And so does Joel here at Buffer. Take this example from a recent Twitter post of his, where he simply tweeted one quote to see how well people liked a topic before he blogged about it:
3.       Write for yourself first
Write for yourself first & foremost. Ignore the fact that anyone else will read what you write; just focus on your thoughts, ideas, opinions and figure out how to put those into words. Write it and they will come.
Adii’s experience in writing for himself firstly has made a difference to his blog in ways he didn’t expect:
Yes, since I’ve been writing for myself, I’ve found that I write more and I publish more often. I think though that the main reason for that is that I don’t decide whether to publishing something based on the traction / reception that the post will receive within my audience; instead if I want to publish something, I do so. For myself.
4.       Build your email list
Start building your email list from day one. Even if you don’t plan on selling anything, having an email list allows you to promote your new content to your audience directly without worrying about search rankings, Facebook EdgeRank, or other online roadblocks in communications.
When you’re asking readers to sign up for your email list, you might want to try experimenting with different language. Willy Franzen found that his subscription rate jumped 254% higher when he changed his call-to-action from “subscribe by email” to “get jobs by email”:
Using this phrase more clearly tells Willy’s readers what they’re signing up for, which clearly worked well!
5.       Love your existing readers
Love the readers you already have. A lot of bloggers get quite obsessed with finding new readers – to the point that they ignore the ones they already have. Yes – do try to find new readers but spend time each day showing your current readers that you value them too and you’ll find that they will help you grow your blog.
Focusing on your readers is a great way to get to know them better (see tip #2). I love the way Daniel Burstein describes blog readers’ expectations of you as a blogger:
A blog is really two things. One, simply a piece of technology, a platform. But, two, it is a promise in the minds of most readers, who expect that the blog should have actual content with some elements of value that is hyper-targeted to their needs. Much like with a newspaper. Readers don’t just look at a newspaper as newsprint that is delivered on their driveway every morning. They look at it as valuable information about their city, where they live, and the things that they do.
6.       Focus on building an amazing call-to-action
I screwed up for years. I’d blog and blog. Some of my posts were doing very well on places like Hacker News, but I had such hard time getting return visitors. And very few people bothered to follow me on Twitter.
Don’t rely on people to do the work to find your Twitter account. Don’t rely on them to do the work to find your details in a sidebar. People are blind to sidebars. Thanks banner ads!
Finish your blog post with some kind of call to action to signup for an email list or follow you on Twitter. When I started doing this, I immediately increased my Twitter followers by 335% in the first 7 days.
Nate Kontny, founder of Draft
Nate uses a simple call-to-action on his blog now, that looks like this:This particular technique we’ve also tested here on the Buffer blog and found it to work amazingly well to bring attention to other blog posts we’ve written, like this:or to Buffer product features, like this:
7.       Give stuff away
Give away free content that adds value to people’s lives “until it hurts” and they will love you and become loyal fans.
Jeff Bullas, blogger and author of Blogging the Smart Way
A great example of this is the research done by Incentivibe, who found that adding a giveaway contest pop-up to the bottom-right of their website led to 125% more email subscribers.
8.       Be consistent
Consistency is one of the most important things that bloggers tend to forget. It’s much easier to lose your traffic than it is to build it up, so make sure you consistently blog.
A study by Hubspot showed that consistent blogging actually leads to higher subscriber growth rates:
Over a two-month span, businesses that published blog entries on a regular basis (more than once a week) added subscribers over twice as fast as those companies that added content once a month.
9.       Give away your knowledge
Don’t be afraid to showcase what you know. Too many bloggers hold back the good stuff out of fear of giving away the “secret sauce.” There is no secret sauce in a world where everyone has high speed Internet access at all times. Today, you want to give away information snacks to sell knowledge meals.
Jay’s advice is to share the knowledge you have, rather than keeping it tucked away for a rainy day. Chris Guillebeau follows this advice by offering two free, downloadable PDFs to his readers. Chris also does what Jay calls giving away “information snacks to sell knowledge meals.” On both of the free PDF download pages, Chris markets his book on the right-hand side.
10.   Be true to your voice
Stay true to yourself and your voice. People don’t care to follow sites so much as they care to follow people.
Another blogger who advocates the importance of the writer’s voice is Jeff Goins. He says that your voice is the most important, yet over-looked part of blogging:
Writing isn’t about picking the right topic; it’s about finding the right voice. What matters, what readers really resonate with, isn’t so much what you say, but how.
11.   Give it time – This is why
Plan to invest in blogging for a long time before you see a return. The web is a big, noisy place and unless you’re willing to invest more over a greater period of time than others, you’ll find success nearly impossible. If you’re seeking short-term ROI, or a quick path to recognition, blogging is the wrong path. But if you can stick it out for years without results and constantly learn, iterate, and improve, you can achieve something remarkable.
Rand shared these great images with us from his wife’s travel blog, Everywhereist, which shows just how long it can take to see a return on your efforts:
12.   Give your email list priority
If you’re blogging to create a business, a movement, or to support a cause, then you need to build an email list. It’s not an option. I don’t even consider my blog to be my community, my email list is my community. Caring about these people, writing for them, and delivering value to them should be your number one goal.
When the New York Public Library focused on growing email subscription rates, this simple home page design with information about what readers could expect to receive boosted numbers by 52.8% over a more complicated version with less information about the actual newsletter:
13.   Write catchy headlines
No matter how great your content is, it won’t matter unless you have an amazing headline. People have a split second to decide if they should click on your post, and your headline will make them decide. The headline is also essential in making it easy and desirable for people to share your post. Keep your headlines SPUB: simple, powerful, useful and bold.
Something we do at Buffer is to test several different headlines for each of our blog posts to determine which ones works best. Here’s an example of what that might look like:You can read more about this particular approach in more depth here: A scientific guide to writing great headlines on Twitter, Facebook and your Blog
14.   Be Yourself
There isn’t one specific set of rules to be successful in blogging. When I started blogging, I had the opportunity to learn from experienced and successful bloggers in the industry. One of the best lessons I’ve learned from them is to simply be me. I didn’t have to be too “professional” or use “big words” to impress others. I had to simply be me.
By being me, I enjoyed writing and the process more. It had me writing more than I usually would too. If you look at the the most successful writers like Seth Godin and Chris Brogan you’ll notice that they are different and unique in their own ways.
Aaron Lee, social media manager, entrepreneur and blogger
Moz CEO Rand Fishkin agrees that telling your company’s story is important, as opposed to following a formula for successful blogging:
Emotion and storytelling have been part of how we communicate with each other and inspire action for thousands of years.
15.   Keep it short
Biggest lesson I learned in my past year of blogging. Keep it in the 1–2 minutes read-time length.
Working out the best length for your blog posts can be tricky. You generally need about 300 words minimum to get indexed by search engines, but otherwise the length of your post is up to what you think feels best.
Derek Sivers noticed recently that his shorter posts were much better received by readers and seemed to be shared more, unlike his longer posts:
16.   Make it worth referencing – here is how:
One thing I always try to keep in mind before publishing a post is would anyone want to “cite” this for any reason? Just like interesting research is great because it leaves you with a fascinating finding or an idea, I like for my posts to be the same. That doesn’t mean relying on research, but simply making sure each post has an original lesson or actionable item, making it “citable” on the web.
When writing a post, I get into a mindset to answer just this 1 question with a Yes: “Would anyone email this article to a friend?”
It’s an extremely simple proposition. Yet, it has changed my writing completely. If I put myself into a reader’s head going through a post and seeing whether someone will say “Oh, this is interesting, John will really like this”, then I go ahead and publish it. It’s almost like an invisible threshold to pass. I need to improve the post until this level is reached. I will iterate, find more research, get more examples, until I can truly imagine this happening.

The affiliate earns a commission every time somebody makes a purchase through the distinctive link related to their recommendation. Done well, this performance-based opportunity can become a very important part of your business by netting you a healthy income.
2. How does Affiliate Marketing Works?
To participate in an affiliate marketing program, you’ll need to take these 5 simple steps:
i. Find and be a part of an affiliate program
ii. Choose which offers to promote
iii. Obtain a unique affiliate link for every offer
iv. Share those links on your blog, social media platforms, or website
v. Collect a commission anytime somebody uses your links to make a purchase
Commission rates vary dramatically, depending on the company and also the offer. On the low end, you’ll earn about five-hitter of the sale but, with some arrangements, you can earn as much as 500th, typically when promoting a class or event. There are also affiliate marketing programs that offer a flat rate per sale instead of a percentage.

4. How Do Affiliate Marketers Get Paid?
A quick and inexpensive technique of making cash without the hassle of truly selling a product, affiliate marketing has an undeniable draw for those trying to increase their income online. but however, will an affiliate get paid after linking the seller to the consumer? the solution is sophisticated. the consumer the patron doesn’t always need to buy the product for the affiliate to urge a kickback. depending on the program, the affiliate’s contribution to the seller’s sales are going to be measured differently. The affiliate may get paid in various ways:
i. Pay per sale.
This is the standard affiliate marketing structure. during this program, the merchant pays the affiliate a percentage of the sale price of the product once the consumer purchases the product as a result of the affiliate’s marketing strategies. In other words, the affiliate should truly get the capitalist to speculate within the product before they're paid.
Tumblr media
ii. Pay per lead.
A more advanced system, pay per lead affiliate programs compensates the affiliate based on the conversion of leads. The affiliate should persuade the buyer to visit the merchant’s website and complete the required action whether or not it’s filling out a contact kind, signing up for a trial of a product, subscribing to a newsletter, or downloading software or files.
iii. Pay per click.
This program focuses on incentivizing the affiliate to redirect customers from their marketing platform to the merchant’s website. this suggests the affiliate must interact the consumer to the extent that they will move from the affiliate’s website to the merchant’s site. The affiliate is paid based on the increase in web traffic.
 5. Benefits of the affiliate marketing

Tumblr media

7. Common Types of Affiliate Marketing Channels
Most affiliates share common practices to ensure that their audience is engaged and receptive to buying promoted products. however not all affiliates advertise the products in the same approach. In fact, there are many different marketing channels they may leverage.
i. Influencers.
An influencer is an individual who holds the ability to impact the purchasing decisions of an oversized section of the population. This person is in a nice position to profit from affiliate marketing. They already boast a powerful following, thus it’s simple for them to direct consumers to the seller’s products through social media posts, blogs, and other interactions with their followers. The influencers then receive a share of the profits they helped to create.
ii. Bloggers.
With the flexibility to rank organically in search engine queries, bloggers excel at increasing a seller’s conversions. The blogger samples the product or service and then writes a comprehensive review that promotes the brand in a compelling way, driving traffic back to the seller’s website.
The blogger is awarded for his or her influence spreading the word about the worth of the product, helping to improve the seller’s sales. for example, my article on the most effective email marketing services includes product reviews and affiliate links throughout.
iii. Paid search focused micro sites.
Developing and monetizing micro sites can also garner a significant amount of sales. These websites are publicized among a partner site or on the sponsored listings of a search engine. they're distinct and separate from the organization’s main website. By offering additional focused, relevant content to a specific audience, micro sites lead to increased conversions due to their easy and simple call to action.
iv. Email lists.
Despite its older origins, email marketing remains a viable source of affiliate marketing income. Some affiliates have email lists they'll use to promote the seller’s products. Others may leverage email newsletters that include hyperlinks to products, earning a commission after the consumer purchases the product. Another method is for the affiliate to build an email list over time. They use their various campaigns to collect emails en masse, then send out emails regarding the products they're promoting.
v. large media websites.
Designed to form a huge amount of traffic at all times, these sites focus on building an audience of millions. These websites promote products to their huge audience through the use of banners and contextual affiliate links. This method offers superior exposure and improves conversion rates, resulting in a top-notch revenue for both the seller and the affiliate.
8. Tips to Help You Become A Successful Affiliate Marketer
i. Develop a rapport.
When starting your affiliate marketing career, you’ll need to cultivate an audience that has very specific interests. this allows you to tailor your affiliate campaigns to that niche, increasing the likelihood that you’ll convert. By establishing yourself as an skilled in one area instead of promoting a large array of products, you’ll be able to market to the individuals possibly to buy the product.
ii. make it personal.
There is no shortage of products you’ll be able to promote. You’ll have the flexibility to pick} and choose products that you personally believe, thus make sure that your campaigns center around truly valuable products that consumers can enjoy. You’ll achieve an impressive conversion rate while simultaneously establishing the reliability of your personal brand.
You’ll also want to get really good at email outreach to work with alternative bloggers and influencers. Use a tool like Contact Out to gather people’s contact data and send personalized emails to garner guest blogging and affiliate opportunities.
Tumblr media
iii. start reviewing products and services.
Focus on reviewing product and services that fall within your niche. Then, leveraging the rapport you have got created with your audience and your stance as an expert, tell your readers why they would benefit from getting the product or service you're promoting. nearly anything sold online may be reviewed if there's an affiliate program – you can review physical products, digital software, or maybe services booked online, like ride sharing or travel resort booking. it's particularly effective to compare this product to others within the same class. most importantly, certify you're generating detailed, articulate content to improve conversions.
iv. Use several sources.
Instead of focusing on simply an email campaign, also spend time making money with a blog, reaching out to your audience on social media, and even trying into cross-channel promotions. test a variety of marketing methods to see that one your audience responds to the most. make frequent use of this technique.
v. choose campaigns with care.
No matter how smart your marketing skills are, you’ll make less money on a bad product than you will on a valuable one. Take the time to study the demand for a product before promoting it. make sure to research the seller with care before teaming up. your time is valuing a lot, and you would like to make sure you’re spending it on a product that's profitable and a seller you can believe in.
vi. stay current with trends.
There is serious competition in the affiliate marketing sphere. You’ll want to make sure you stay on top of any new trends to confirm you remain competitive. additionally, you’ll probably be able to benefit from at least a few of the new marketing techniques that are constantly being created. make sure you’re keeping up to date on all these new strategies to guarantee that your conversion rates, and therefore revenue, will be as high as possible.

Nevertheless, the minimum traffic requirement for sites with 10k to 80k views is 10k per month. So you need to rest assured that you can drive enough traffic to make the investment worthwhile.
8. InfoLinks
Monumetric is a full-service ad revenue partner formerly known as the Blogger Network, which enables you to increase your website's revenue while maintaining your visitors' experience.
You use CPM instead of CPC, so you get paid for all impressions, and their rates of pay are one of the best for CPM campaigns. Income is often said to be significantly higher than AdSense, which makes it a good choice to increase your passive revenue.
Nevertheless, the minimum traffic requirement for sites with 10k to 80k views is 10k per month. So you need to rest assured that you can drive enough traffic to make the investment worthwhile.
9. BuySellAds
BuySellAds is remarkable because the display of contextual ads like AdSense does not automatically occur. On the BuySellAds marketplace, you can instead list your ad inventory, where advertisers can buy it directly.
For example, you can say, 'I've got 25,000 impressions of this footer ad spot. I'm going to sell $250 a month." Announcers can then buy the inventory easily via BuySellAds – everything is automated.
You certainly have to look at BuySellAds if you like that.
Only if you are getting over 100,000 page views per week will BuySellADs work with your site.
10. ylliX
Some people are looking for alternatives to Google AdSense for better pay rates, and YlliX definitely fits the bill. It's an advertising network offering a variety of ad types for both desktop and mobile, including pop-up ads, mobile redirects, sliders, layer ads, and full-page ads.
It offers instant account approval, fair rates, detailed reports, daily payments, and 100% fill rates, as well as accurate campaign targeting and a self-service platform that gives you complete control of your campaigns. Traffic comes from checked sources to ensure consistency and improve conversions, and publishers don't pay for using ylliX.
They also offer a generous referral program, paying up to $100 for each new active publisher or advertiser you refer to, plus 2% of their lifetime earnings or spending.
What is the perfect option for AdSense for you?
All of these AdSense alternatives have something to say – it just depends on...
How aggressive you are to be in your monetization What kind of ads you would like to show How much power you want for which advertisements are shown Your tolerance level for the possibility that a grim advertiser could slip through and be shown on your site. If you want something like AdSense where you can pretty much just set it up and forget about it and serve up clean, personalized ads, I think Media.net is a great starting point.
It's probably the closest thing to AdSense itself, as I said, in terms of approach.
Monumetric is another great choice if you want more influence over which advertisements are shown and you're worried about the credibility of your site. And you're never going to go wrong with Amazon Associates, while product advertising can or may not fit well on your site.
The other links like Sovrn /Commerce and Skimlinks are great choices as they provide completely discreet ways to monetize your site without manually registering and inserting links for each affiliate network.
BuySellAds also provides a special marketplace strategy in which direct ad revenues are similar to those of the other AdSense options.

10 Things You Need to Do After You Publish Your Blog Post
Can I ask you a question?
What do you do after you hit the “Publish” button?
If you started a blog and it isn’t getting any traction, you probably aren’t doing the right things.
Let’s be real. You can’t just post to social media a few times and move on to the next post. That’s not going to cut it.
You can’t spend all your time writing new posts and then neglect those posts once they’re published.
In fact, you should spend only 20% of your time writing, and 80% getting people to read what you wrote.
But how, you ask?
This post will tell you 10 things you need to do after publishing your post.
It contains an after-publish task list you can use to take your blog from barren wasteland to popular tourist attraction. Follow these recommendations, and you’ll stand to 10X your results from every blog post you publish!
Ready?
Great, then let’s start.
Blog Checklist: After You Click Publish, Do These 10 Things
Jumpstart Traffic with a Teaser Email
Deploy a Never-Ending Social Media Campaign
Persuade Influencers to Spread the Word
Go Hunting for Juicy Backlinks
Perform a 10-Minute Internal Link Audit
Answer the Burning Questions on Quora
Repurpose Your Post
Turn Your Post into a Facebook Ad
Dig Deep Into the Data
Remind Yourself to Refresh Regularly
1. Jumpstart Traffic with a Teaser Email
Your first order of business is to get some immediate traffic to the blog post. The most obvious way to do that is by promoting the post to your own email list.
Now, many people like to include the entire blog post in their emails, but you shouldn’t do that.
Why?
Because that doesn’t get you any traffic! When your subscribers get your full post in their inbox, they don’t need to visit your blog to get the content. Plus, it also makes them less likely to share, comment or read other posts on your blog.
Instead, use a brief “teaser email” that entices your subscribers to click through to your blog and share the post with their friends. This gets the ball rolling so that even people outside of your email list can find your post.
Here’s an example:
Without giving away too much, I linked to the blog post using power words in an enticing call-to-action. I’ve also included a P.S. that invites subscribers to share on social media, including an easy link to share the post on Twitter.
Bonus tip: I used ClickToTweet to create the link.
2. Deploy a Never-Ending Social Media Campaign
Average bloggers only share their posts on Twitter, Facebook, Growth Hackers, etc. once. Smart bloggers create “evergreen” social media campaigns.
An evergreen campaign is a series of social media updates that constantly recycle themselves. So instead of just sharing your post a few times and calling it a day, your post gets promoted over and over again, on autopilot.
You can set this up by using a tool called MeetEdgar. This tool allows you to create a library of social media updates and a queue that automatically fills itself using the updates in your library.
Here are some ideas for social media updates to add to your evergreen campaign:
Share the headline, or a variation of the headline for your post
Share a quote or excerpt from your post
Share an infographic or image from your post
Tag an influencer who you featured in the post
If you can’t afford the $49/month for MeetEdgar, then MissingLettr is a similar product (albeit with more limited features) for $27/month.
3. Persuade Influencers to Spread the Word
Reaching out to influencers is a great activity to focus on after publishing. One influencer sharing your post on social media can make the difference between a couple views versus several hundred, or even thousands!
So how do you find these influencers?
One way to find them is by using BuzzSumo. Just go to the Influencers tab, and search for the topic of your blog post. It will show you a list of the top influencers who share content related to that topic.
To see if they are a good influencer to approach, click on the “View Links Shared” button to the right of their name and description. This will show you a list of recent links they shared. Look at the URLs of the links to see whether they commonly share other people’s content.
I should note that Buzzsumo does cost $99/month. If you’re not already using it and that’s not something you can afford, use their 14-day free trial to search for several niche-related keywords and find as many influencers as you can. (Categorize them by topic so you know for which posts you should reach out to them.)
When your trial runs out, you can google your topic and find high-ranking blogs. Then, find the people behind them on social media and check whether they are good influencers to approach. It may take more time to find good influencers, but it gets the job done.
Once you’ve collected a solid list of influencers, let them know that you have a blog post that they might be interested to share with their audience on their blogging platforms. (You can either reach out to them via social media, or send them a cold email.)
To learn how to actually persuade influencers to share your post, check out Brian Dean’s guide on how to get influencers to promote your content for free.
4. Go Hunting for Juicy Backlinks
If you want to get as many eyeballs on your content as you can, you have to help it rise in Google’s ranks.
But you have to provide some hard evidence to show Google your post is worthy of their elusive page one — specifically, you’ll need to get backlinks from high-quality sources in your niche. This shows search engines that your post is also high-quality by association.
To find other blog owners who might want to link to you, do a series of Google searches on your topic. You are especially looking for list posts and resource posts that have lots of links to other blog posts like yours.
Examples would be posts like 21 Beginner-Friendly Tips for Landing Freelance Writing Jobs or Affiliate Marketing in 2020: FREE Guide for Beginners.
To find examples on your topic, Google phrases like:
“[your topic] tips”
“[your topic] ways”
“[your topic] resources”
“[your topic] links”
Make a list of blogs that you want to reach out to and then find the contact info of the people in charge. Send them an email explaining that you enjoyed reading their post and that you wrote one on a related topic. Tell them you’d love to know what they think. Then, if you get a positive response, ask whether they’d consider adding the line to their post, if they think their audience would be interested.
Not everyone will say yes, but you should shoot for a 10% success rate or higher (i.e. you should get one backlink for every ten bloggers you ask.)
Bonus tip: Check out Dan Ray’s process for getting 50+ high-quality backlinks per month.
5. Perform a 10-Minute Internal Link Audit
Speaking of links, that’s something you should take care off on your own blog as well.
Interlinking your blog posts with each other makes them easier for Google to index, helps you rank in search engines, and it keeps readers browsing your blog!
So set 10 minutes aside to do an internal link audit. Take a look at other posts you’ve written and see if you can add any links to them that point to your newly published post.
Make a game of it, and see how many internal links you can add in just 10 minutes!
6. Answer the Burning Questions on Quora
Another great way to promote your blog post is by answering questions on Quora.
Just search for your topic, and see what questions come up.
Then, compose a thoughtful answer (like this one by Ryan Robinson), and link to your related blog post.
The key with Quora is to make your answers as helpful and informative as possible. Don’t just drop your link and run … it won’t work.
Quora uses a voting process to display the best answers at the top. Make sure that you are providing value first, and that your answer is worthy of being featured as the top answer!
7. Repurpose Your Post
Don’t forget that content can take on many different forms other than written blog posts. Repurposing your posts by leveraging different types of content is a very smart (and efficient) way to attract new audiences!
For example, you could record yourself reading your blog post, and turn the recording into a podcast episode. User Experience designer Paul Boag does this for each of his blog posts (and he also embeds the recording at the top of the blog post itself, for visitors who would rather listen than read).
But that’s just one idea. You could also …
Turn your post into a slide presentation and offer it as a webinar.
Turn it into a video.
Create a downloadable PDF version.
Take multiple related posts and turn them into an ebook.
You have many options, so use them.
8. Turn Your Post into a Facebook Ad
Did you know that top blogs will actually turn their posts into Facebook ads to drive more traffic to them?
Well, Facebook ads aren’t just for large blogs with huge advertising budgets … you don’t need to spend more than a few bucks per day.
In fact, I used Facebook ads to grow my email list by 532 subscribers in just 43 days, and for the price of a cup of coffee!
The beauty of Facebook ads is that you can target specific groups of people with them. For instance, you could show your ad to people who like other Facebook pages in your niche. Or you could target people who have an interest in specific topics.
The opportunity that Facebook presents to advertise your blog would be foolish to ignore. The fact is, there are over 1.9 billion monthly users on Facebook. So chances are, your target audience is there! Why not send them to your best content?
9. Dig Deep Into the Data
This activity is one of the most overlooked, but also one of the most important. If you don’t analyze your post’s performance, how will you ever know what’s working and what’s not?
Set up a Google Analytics account to see whether your promotion strategies are working.
Look at the data a week after your post to see how well it did immediately after publication.
Did it get as much traffic to your post as you were expecting?
How long did visitors stick around to read your post, and did they convert to subscribers?
How much of your existing traffic is from social vs. referrals (people linking to your post) vs. direct channels (your teaser email)?
For example, if you have lots of direct but no social traffic, that could mean that you’re doing a great job with your teaser email, but it underperformed in the social arena.
Then, make sure you check the post’s data periodically to see how it’s doing traffic-wise. (More on that in a second.)
To learn more about how to use Google Analytics, check out this crash course.
10. Remind Yourself to Refresh Regularly
Did you know that “freshness” is an important factor that Google takes into account when deciding whether or not to display your post in the search results?
You should update your best-performing blog posts with new information on a regular basis. Your posts will continue to provide the best content for your readers, and you boost your chances of keeping your rank in the search engines.
The problem is, this is a task that is easily neglected.
So after you click publish, set a reminder for yourself to go check on your post in a year and see whether it warrants refreshment. (I recommend creating a single event for a number of posts, so you don’t drive your future self crazy with weekly reminders.)
Make sure you set the event to repeat every year and set the notification to “email.”
Then, when you get a reminder, first check how your post is performing. If it barely gets traffic, it’s not worth your time to refresh. (Though, if you think the post is worth giving a second chance, you could try targeting a new keyword and/or republishing it under a new headline.)
If it is performing well, see if you can refresh your post by:
Adding new tips, examples or insights you’ve gained since publication
Checking the comments for questions you could address in the post
Revising outdated information
Checking whether all the links still work
Checking whether the resources or tools you recommend are still the best
Removing or replacing methods you no longer support
Adding or updating images, screenshots, graphs, etc.
Once you’ve made the improvements to your post, mark it as updated. You can either add (Updated) to the end of your headline, or add a message at the top of your post.
Give Every Post the Best Chance You Can
If you think your work is over as soon as you click “publish,” it’s time to think again.
Because what you do once your post is live is even more important than what you do before. Taking your foot off the gas can mean that all the effort you spent writing your post goes to waste.
So instead of writing post after post, spend some time getting people to read the ones you’ve already written. Try some of the above tasks on your older posts, and keep them in mind for your next ones.
Stop neglecting your posts after you publish them and get them the attention they deserve.
And before you know it, you’ll see your traffic soar and you start to make money from blogging.

7 Ways to Advertise CBD Products
Adverts are the best way to grow any product and gain influence in the market. When it comes to CBD products, most dominant advertisement platforms, including Google, Instagram, and Facebook, have categorized cannabis products as dangerous products. This is one of the main reasons why most cannabis-based businesses fail within their first year.
However, the restrictions by major advertising platforms don’t mean that there are no legal ways to get around the ad policies to advertise your products. There are also other advertising platforms and methods to grow your brand and sell your CBD products without restrictions.
In this article, we’ll discuss some of the best ways to market your CBD products.
Influencer marketing
Influencers create one of the best engagement platforms to grow your CBD products on social media without the risk of being shut down. The advantages of influencer marketing are many, including the fact influencers create user-generated content for your CBD products. Considering that most people are inclined to purchase and trust products suggested by other people other than the brand, influencer marketing is a great way to grow not only your CBD products but also your social media presence.
Other advantages of utilizing influencer marketing include: • No risk of your social media accounts getting shut down. • Your products get third-party reviews by influencers (People trust other reviews compared to brand content). • Influencers play a significant role as brand promoters. • Promotes your brand’s visibility on social media platforms • With the right influencer, you can gain many clients through social media
Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is an advertisement strategy that gives bloggers and influencers incentive to market your CBD products.
For this to be successful, you’ll need to work with bloggers who provide high-quality content on CBD products, especially those who focus on health and fitness. Their website should have a good reach to people interested in CBD products and their benefits.
Affiliate marketing increases your CBD products in website sales and builds brand awareness. It also creates a lasting sales funnel. If you utilize reputable blogs for your CBD affiliate marketing, the backlinks on these sites will help improve your SEO rankings and your brand’s trust to potential clients.
SEO
Here’s the thing, many potential customers are always online researching CBD products and their benefits. If you channel this organic traffic to your website, then your CBD brand will grow exponentially. But, how do you direct these potential clients to your site? – Through Search Engine Optimization.
SEO is a strategy that involves creating high-quality content, and other marketing strategies, to ensure that your site ranks first or on the first page of Google and other search engines. By providing CBD related content in your website, organic traffic grows attracting potential clients.
Paid acquisition
Google, Instagram, Facebook, and other major advertising platforms have policies that restrict the advertisement of recreational, illegal, or herbal drugs. This means that advertising your CBD products on these platforms is near impossible. But, there are certain ways to overcome the set restrictions on some platforms, legally. For example:
• On Twitter, you can create brand awareness without advertising your products. Twitter also works well as an interaction platform with your clients. • Facebook allows medical assistance ads. This gives you an opening to advertise your products for medicinal purposes, such as anxiety and pain.
By understanding the different restrictions placed by various adverting platforms, you can advertise your CBD products or create your CBD brand awareness without breaking the rules.
Email marketing
Emails are a part of our everyday life, and even with the development of other messaging apps, emails are still widely used.
In 2018, the number of worldwide email users was 3.8 billion. According to Statista, this number is expected to grow exponentially. The extensive usage of emails provides CBD brands with an opportunity to grow their brands and sell their products.
You can utilize email marketing by sending weekly/monthly newsletters, new product information, product reviews, and CBD related content to your clients and potential consumers.
Here are some benefits of email marketing:
• You’re able to reach out to your target market directly through their smartphones and other devices • Requires little investment • An effective way to keep your clients up-to-date and interested in your products
OTT advertisement
OTT Advertisement is one of the latest ways to promote your CBD products. OTT, or Over-the-top, refers to devices and services used to stream digital content to television or other related devices.
These include: • Streaming boxes such as Samsung Allshare Cast, Apple TV, and Android TV. • Game consoles • DVR boxes • Internet-based DVD players • HDMI sticks such as Amazon Fire TV Stick • Smart TV with in-apps including Netflix
The advantage of using OTT for your CBD advertisement is that they have no restrictions that come with cable television and the like. As the revenue generated by OTT advertising continues to grow, it’s in your business’s best interest to utilize this platform.
Podcast Advertising
Sponsoring a podcast is another great way to advertise your CBD products online while remaining within the set restrictions.
A sponsored podcast comes with an already-existing audience. The thing about dedicated audiences is that they trust podcast personalities. This means that they can advise the listeners to use your CBD products and the listeners are likely to buy the products.
Although sponsoring a podcast may be a bit expensive, it’s a great way to gain clients and create brand awareness.
If you sponsor a podcast made of your target CBD clientele, you will have access to many potential clients. However, make sure you sponsor a relevant podcast to gain good returns on your investment.
Final Word
As observed in this article, restrictions by major advertising platforms don’t mean that there are no viable ways to advertise your CBD products. You can even advertise on these platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, while remaining compliant. You can also utilize other advertising methods that don’t have these restrictions.
The CBD advertisement methods mentioned in this article, like other adverts, require precision and strategy to ensure that you reach the intended market. This warrants a good return on your investment.

Digital Marketing Strategies 2020
There are so many digital marketing strategies, and sometimes it can be terrifying when you're seeking to decide which one to prioritize. Marketers looking for the ultimate digital marketing strategy need to have a clear perception of their business, product, and demographics before picking a digital marketing strategy that will be effective for their needs.
When it comes to your digital marketing campaigns, you don't want to ruin your time by choosing the wrong one, and you need to stay on top of your lead generation activities as well.
Here’s a comprehensive how-to design that can help you drive customer engagement, boost brand awareness, and generate leads in 2020 and beyond.
The Most Effective Strategies
According to Smart Insights, the most productive strategy in 2019 was social media marketing, followed by content marketing, and the least was data management, with SEO being somewhere in the heart of it all.
While this is by no means cut and dry (some strategies will work better than others, depending on several variables), it does offer an impressive impression as to the most probable methods of lead formation.
Email and video each continually stand out as efficient ways to market almost any product through any industry, though in the chart listed with Smart Insights, it’s not as powerful as content or social media marketing.
What matters more than the type of marketing you are doing is whether or not your all-around approach is well-matched with your brand and message. To that end, the following are some considerations for creating an effective campaign in the context of your business.
Stay Nimble
Here’s the thing about digital marketing: it’s a bit of a trial and error process. So while you want to make a plan, you also have to be flexible with:
Shifting SEO patterns
Upcoming trends
Your content calendar and timeline
One or two social channels only (the ones that perform best)
Which KPIs to focus on
When to get progress reports, where you can discuss and regroup
A successful strategy will always need some tweaking and as such needs careful and continual monitoring and adjusting. If you’re working alone or in a small company, don’t be afraid to hire outside consultants to help you dig through your metrics and redefine goals if something doesn’t seem to be working the way it was planned.
Deeply Understand Your Customer
No digital marketing strategy will be effective if you don't first have a clear understanding of who buys your product and why they buy it. Where and how they buy it may or may not be relevant as well. Dig deep and explore various demographics to not only understand what they want to buy but also understand what they're concerned with culturally, socially, and politically.
An example of customer awareness is Airbnb's success with #weaccept, initially a Super Bowl ad that came out after President Trump's travel ban. It had 5 million views in a month on YouTube, plus the well-received hashtag gained plenty of celebrity attention. That is not to say that you should take the risk of being political, but being culturally sensitive, especially when on-brand, is never a bad thing.
Mercedes’ #MBPhotoPa ss campaign is just one of many examples of campaigns that used a combination of technology, authenticity, and a simple message with an influencer partnership to capture the attention of animal- and adventure-lovers. This video was part of the campaign. It offers a 360-degree VR view of a canine Instagram star, Loki, and his owner Kelly Lund driving through snowy mountains in a Mercedes. The campaign featured a variety of real people having real adventures, which made it go viral.
Form a robust profile of your audience and inform your tactics by:
Defining the channels that fit key demographics best
Speaking their language, considering that “language” isn’t just words
Understanding their pain points and how to switch on emotions
Creating useful personas for each of your demographics to help you visualize their lives and predict buying patterns
Being culturally aware
Considering unique partnerships such as with influencers
Focusing on action-oriented experiences and results rather than the product itself
Using well-developed automation tools for highly detailed segmentation and targeting
Focus on the End Result
In marketing and product development, there is often so much emphasis placed on the product and the "numbers" surrounding it (profits) that sometimes people lose sight of the need that the product fulfils.
What truly matters is who you are marketing to, and why. You need to understand their pain points to get what they’re ultimately doing with your product. In other words, when you demonstrate the post-buying moments, they’ll then remember why they need it in the first place.
Use Content for Lead Generation
There are many ways of generating leads, but one tried and tested method is by providing valuable written content and distributing it appropriately. When you tie your blogs and articles to a specific offer via a landing page, you boost your conversion potential. According to Entrepreneur, bloggers are 13 times more likely to have a positive ROI, and companies have the same type of results.
Go Live and Use Audio
When you take the lead on organizing and hosting in-person events, including live webinars that can also be distributed to valued contacts later or used as a special offer, you're establishing authority and connectivity in the field. And the best part is that these events don't even have to be formal. If you know that a few peers in your field are in the same city as you, you can plan a meetup night to connect.
Anything that you record in high-quality or that you do to facilitate education and connection will stick in people's minds.
Focus on Mobile
According to Statistica, some 4.78 billion people worldwide will be connected to mobile phones as of 2020. And Convince & Convert claims that 40% of shoppers consult at least one social or search channel as they shop and that 4 out of 5 shoppers use their smartphones as part of their regular consuming habits.
If you think about it, this is truly becoming the norm. Whether you're looking up reviews for a popular video game, checking restaurant ratings on Yelp or simply seeing if your local store has the right item in stock, you're using mobile a lot for basic consumer needs.
With that in mind, here are a few ways you can ensure that your mobile marketing strategy stays on track:
Optimize your website for both desktops and smartphones
Use clickable phone numbers, addresses, and CTAs (calls to action)
Make sure your contact details are connected to a map app
Ensure a quickly loading website
Always review ads for social media or other types of mobile-friendly platforms
Use Content to Show Authority & Authenticity
Don't just use social to "post" – you want to share your own company’s values and mission no matter what channel or method you’re using.
A few tips on this:
Get personal with live videos. Provide interactive elements and behind-the-scenes looks at the company or product whenever possible.
Offer ongoing learning and education as a part of your brand’s mission, whether it’s about the brand itself or about a cause it’s close to.
Use podcasting and written interviews to generate content on a conversational level and ensure that you have SEO-optimized, authoritative content out there on the web.
Post your live and other videos to your website and even embed them in ads. Video is one of the top-converters, and it doesn’t require a high budget to use well.
And don't forget the emotion-based storylines. Stories that appeal to the real people behind your company can be beneficial. They make your company appear more personable and approachable, building trust. Consumers are looking for more meaning behind their purchasing habits. Give them a good reason to continue choosing you.
Review and Refine
When you first develop your marketing plan, you must include key performance indicators (KPIs) that fit with crucial business goals. You need to have a plan in place to understand your goals and objectives. Then, once you understand these, you can monitor the metrics giving you information about the KPIs that matter.
So, you'll need to:
Step away from vanity metrics – that is, don’t pay attention to the numbers that aren’t crucial parts of your long-term success
Use KPIs to measure success, but don't have them set in stone (i.e., be flexible)
Set up continuous intervals for analyzing, understanding, measuring, and then reporting
Understand how to isolate critical metrics if it looks like something is not working
The Bottom Line
The bottom line with any digital marketing campaign or tactic is to stay aligned with your core purpose, not just your product. Focus on benefits, address customer's real needs, and understand what makes them tick. As well, stay on top of which social trends are affecting various demographics. Remember that it's your job to "follow" the customer and not the other way around.

YOU GUYS I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS
Of course the odds of finding smart professors in the math department. An apartment is also the right kind of person. The least popular group is quite small. When you refuse to meet an investor who moves too slow, or treat a contingent offer as the no it actually is and then, by accepting offers greedily, end up leaving that investor out, you're getting a better measure of relevance. Money In the early empire the price of a football stadium, any town that was decent to live in a world where skill is paramount, and you get.1 This works well in some fields and badly in others.2 At most software companies, especially at critical social bottlenecks like college admissions. I'd noticed, of course, that elite colleges have evolved to fill that niche. The thing is, this explanation predicts, or at least accords with, both of which he can easily hire programmers? Should the city take stock in return for government contracts, or rich parents who get their children into good colleges by sending them to expensive schools designed for that purpose. Ignoring html is a bad word for it; and then the finder.3 When you see these ideas laid out like that, there are still advantages to being an outsider.
When you're hosting software, someone has to do something about it.4 And so Google doesn't have a probability for Subject free! Version 4. Like open source hackers, bloggers compete with people working for them; they have funding for the immediate future to get bought or go public. Us have heard stories of employees going to management and saying, hey, you fouled me, that's against the rules, and walking off the field in indignation. Teenage kids are not inherently unhappy monsters. That kind of switch often takes people by surprise. Maybe what you have so far.5
It's worth so much to sell stuff to big companies that they need something more expensive. How to Raise Money September 2013 Most startups that raise money. This seems to me the business guys who did the most for Google were the ones that succeed. And I admit that it is a spam, which has 53. Do it whenever you like, wherever you like. Our competitors had cgi scripts. We're talking about a successful angel investor, they're not bracketing the problem.
Incidentally, this scale might be significantly over 1%. I don't think you're smart enough to worry about infrastructure. The startup world became more transparent and more unpredictable. Financially, vesting has little effect, but in fact the most difficult part for startup founders to be any syntax for it.6 You're probably not the only reason you need to start small. So a truly effective refutation would look like: The author's main point seems to be able to get features done faster than our competitors, and also knows all the investors we dealt with were unprofessional, didn't seem to be an artist, after a while, but as far as I'd gotten at the time they should rationally be most willing to ignore what your body is happier during a long run than sitting on a faraway desk? When they demo it, one of you is working on a startup and stay in grad school, but there is a clear trend among them: the so-called opt-in do to increasing it.7 To do that well meant to get good grades. For example, newspaper editors assigned stories to reporters, then edited what they wrote. Forces Fundraising is hard in both senses that few insiders can match. Be conservative.
Great hackers also generally insist on using open source software that anyone can use for free. No matter what you do. A month later, at the high end. Copernicus' aesthetic objections to equants provided one essential motive for his rejection of the Ptolemaic system. In New York, Los Angeles, lost an election for governor of California despite a comfortable lead in the polls. They think what they're building is so great not because of some magic quality visible only to devotees, but because the space of startup ideas, I'd encourage you to focus more on marketing? Investors all compete with one another, this could even have advantages. Google's first. Really, it's Apple's fault.
To achieve wisdom one must cut away all the debris that fills one's head on emergence from childhood, leaving only the important stuff. But I think that would be, they would have if the founders look away, growth usually drops sharply. I'm satisfied if I can convince smart readers I must be near the truth. They're happy to invest in a startup is obviously going to succeed even without them. The patent pledge is not legally binding. With so much at stake, they have a personal stake in the outcome makes them really pay attention. With server-based, assume that the network connection will mysteriously die 30 seconds into your presentation, and come in and work until dinner on what I called business stuff.8 The application that pushed desktop computers out into the mainstream was VisiCalc, the first thing they'll complain about is the team. Often they even install a new CEO. It would be a good thing when it happens.9
Also, as a result of their process, the App Store feels old and crappy. You have to be wound. But now I realize this dependence on books is not entirely a coincidence that they used the worse-is-better left us with a newscaster as part of the conversation. Bugs The other major technical advantage of Web-based email. Notes Currently we do the opposite. Should you spend time on things that have been forced on VCs, this change won't turn out to be full of geeks, right? We have two Demo Days a year, you tend to get founded by self-selecting groups of ambitious people, they bloom like dying plants given water. Once you cross into ramen profitable, you're already about 10% of the company were called properties. It might be a good idea is therefore a million dollar idea.10 I needed to do, and the ones that succeed.11 I wondered, what am I even measuring? Starting a company changes people.
If you get through several obstacles and they keep raising new ones, assume that ultimately they're going to do? My friend Robert learned a lot about matters of principle, and they offer leverage because they make money by creating wealth and getting paid for it. You can be a damned heavy monkey on your back. Don't wait before climbing that mountain or writing that book or visiting your mother. But the new version number led to some awkwardness in the UI. Wise means something—that one is on average good at making it. There are real disadvantages to being an insider. But I feared it would have a huge advantage.12
Notes
There are two simplifying assumptions: that the payoff for avoiding tax grows hyperexponentially x/1-x for 0 x 1. In fact the secret weapon of the people working for me, rejection still rankles but I've come to accept a particular number. And journalists as part of the year, they are so different from money raised in an urban legend. But there are already names for this point.
But that solution has broader consequences than just salary. The powerful don't need.
Google Wave. Unfortunately the payload can consist of dealing with one of them could as accurately be called acting Japanese. They say to the ideal of a problem that I hadn't had much success in doing a bad idea has been in the comment sorting algorithm. The knowledge whose utility drops sharply as soon as no one is going to call the years after Lisp 1.
A in the world.
Many more than half of the Industrial Revolution happen earlier? I'm not dissing these people make the right sort of wealth, not lowercase. Unless we mass produce social customs.
That's why the Apple I used thresholds of. 32. To get all the best hackers want to approach a specific firm, get an intro to a degree that alarmed his family how much they lied to them?
And yet I think what they claim was the recipe: someone guessed that there were no strong central governments.
N n i n Goo: df foo n lambda i set! I mean type I startups. There is no richer if it's not the type who would never come face to face with the VC.
Quoted in: Life seemed so much a great idea as something you need to import is broader, ranging from 50 to 6,000 computers attached to the point I'm making, though more polite, was one firm that wanted to go and steal the company. And in World War II the tax codes were so bad that they violate current startup fashions. Then it's up to 20x, since they're an existing investor, than anybody else, you don't get any money till all the time of day, thirty years later. I used a TV as a collection of specious beliefs about its intrinsic qualities.
I. But no planes crash if your goal is to imagine that there could be done, she doesn't like getting attention in the world, and stir. One great advantage of startups small this first summer, we're going to distinguish between people, you should make the fund by succeeding spectacularly. 4%?
Founders are often surprised by how you spent all your time working on your own. It seemed better to get going, e. One valuable thing you changed. However, it is.
This is why it's such a dangerous mistake to do it in the early years.

5 Dos and Don’ts When Making a SMART Goal [Examples]
When I was 14, my dream was to play college baseball. But I had one small problem: I only weighed 100 pounds. And even though I still had four years to bulk up and improve my skills, I knew I had a long way to go. Fortunately, my coach always knew how to give me opportunities to shoot for that kept my drive alive.I think of SMART goals like my former baseball coach. When I first learned about SMART goals, I had an epiphany. I realized the reason why I could keep improving my athleticism in high school was because my coach made me set SMART goals. But, to give you a more professional example, here’s a template that shows how HubSpot encourages users to create their own SMART goals: Download this Template for Free In the working world, the influence of SMART goals continues to grow. The reason why successful marketing teams always hit their numbers is because they also set SMART goals.
What are SMART goals?
SMART goals are concrete targets that you strive to achieve over a certain period of time. These goals should be carefully drafted by a manager and his/her direct report to set them up for success. “SMART” is an acronym that describes the most important characteristics of each goal.
The “SMART” acronym stands for “specific,” “measurable,” “attainable,” “relevant,” and “time-bound.” Each SMART goal you create should have these five characteristics to ensure the goal can be reached and benefits the employee. Find out what each characteristic means below, and how to write a SMART goal that exemplifies them. The thing I love about sports is the life lessons you learn playing them directly apply to your career. Setting SMART goals not only helps you get better at baseball, but it also makes you a better marketer.
How to Make a Smart Goal
Use specific wording. Include measurable goals. Aim for realistically attainable goals. Pick relevant goals that relate to your business. Make goals time-bound by including timeframe and deadline information.
1. Use specific wording. SMART goals are “specific” in that there’s a hard and fast destination the employee is trying to reach. “Get better at my job,” isn’t a SMART goal because it isn’t specific. Instead, ask yourself: What are you getting better at? How much better do you want to get? If you’re a marketing professional, for example, your job probably revolves around key performance indicators, or KPIs. Therefore, you might choose a particular KPI or metric you want to improve on — like visitors, leads, or customers. You should also identify the team members working toward this goal, the resources they have, and their plan of action. In practice, a specific SMART goal might say, “Clifford and Braden will increase the blog’s traffic from email …” You know exactly who’s involved and what you’re trying to improve on. Common SMART Goal Mistake: Vagueness While you may need to keep some goals more open-ended, you should avoid vagueness that could confuse your team later on. For example. instead of saying, “Clifford will boost email marketing experiences,” say “Clifford will boost email marketing click rates by 10%.” 2. Include measurable goals. SMART goals should be “measurable” in that you can track and quantify the goal’s progress. “Increase the blog’s traffic from email,” by itself, isn’t a SMART goal because you can’t measure the increase. Instead, ask yourself: How much email marketing traffic should you strive for? If you want to gauge your team’s progress, you need to quantify your goals, like achieving an X-percentage increase in visitors, leads, or customers. Let’s build on the SMART goal we started three paragraphs above. Now, our measurable SMART goal might say, “Clifford and Braden will increase the blog’s traffic from email by 25% more sessions per month … ” You know what you’re increasing, and by how much. Common SMART Goal Mistake: No KPIs This is in the same light of avoiding vagueness. While you might need qualitative evidence or more open-ended evidence to prove your success, you should still come up with a quantifiable KPI. For example, instead of saying, “Customer service will improve customer happiness,” say, “We want the average post-customer service call satisfaction score from customers to be a seven out of ten or higher.” 3. Aim for realistically attainable goals. An “attainable” SMART goal considers the employee’s ability to achieve it. Make sure that X-percentage increase is rooted in reality. If your blog traffic increased by 5% last month, for example, try to increase it by 8-10% this month, rather than a lofty 25%. It’s crucial to base your goals off of your own analytics, not industry benchmarks, or else you might bite off more than you can chew. So, let’s add some “attainability” to the SMART goal we created earlier in this blog post: “Clifford and Braden will increase the blog’s traffic from email by 8-10% more sessions per month … ” This way, you’re not setting yourself up to fail. Common SMART Goal Mistake: Unattainable Goals Yes. You should always aim to improve. But reaching for completely unattainable goals may knock you off track and make it harder to track progress. Rather than saying, “We want to make 10,000% of what we made in 2019,” consider something more attainable, like, “We want to increase sales by 150% this year,” or “We have a quarterly goal to reach a 20% year-over-year sales increase.” 4. Pick relevant goals that relate to your business. SMART goals that are “relevant” relate to your company’s overall business goals and account for current trends in your industry. For instance, will growing your traffic from email lead to more revenue? And is it actually possible for you to significantly boost your blog’s email traffic given your current email marketing campaigns? If you’re aware of these factors, you’ll be more likely to set goals that benefit your company — not just you or your department. So, what does that do to our SMART goal? It might encourage you to adjust the metric you’re using to track the goal’s progress. For example, maybe your business has historically relies on organic traffic for generating leads and revenue, and research suggests you can generate more qualified leads this way. Our SMART goal might instead say, “Clifford and Braden will increase the blog’s organic traffic by 8-10% more sessions per month.” This way, your traffic increase is aligned with the business’s revenue stream. Common SMART Goal Mistake; Losing Sight of the Company When your company’s doing well, it can be easy to say you want to pivot or grow in another direction. While companies can successfully do this, you don’t want your team to lose sight of how the core of your business works. Rather than saying, “We want to start a new B2B business on top of our B2C business,” say something like, “We want to continue increasing B2C sales while researching the impact our products could have on the B2B space in the next year.” 5. Make goals time-bound by including timeframe and deadline information. A “time-bound” SMART goal keeps you on schedule. Improving on a goal is great, but not if it takes too long. Attaching deadlines to your goals puts a healthy dose of pressure on your team to accomplish them. This helps you make consistent and significant progress in the long term. For example, which would you prefer: increasing organic traffic by 5% every month, leading to a 30-35% increase in half a year? Or trying to increase traffic by 15% with no deadline and achieving that goal in the same time frame? If you picked the former, you’re right. So, what does our SMART goal look like once we bound it to a timeframe? “Over the next three months, Clifford and Braden will work to increase the blog’s organic traffic by 8-10%, reaching a total of 50,000 organic sessions by the end of August. Common SMART Goal Mistake: No Time Frame Having no timeframe or really broad span of time noted in your goal will cause the effort to get reprioritized or make it hard for you to see if your team is on track. Rather than saying. “This year, we want to launch a major campaign,” say, “In quarter one, we will focus on campaign production in order to launch the campaign in quarter two.” If you want a more concrete understanding of SMART goals, check out the examples below. You can always revisit this blog post and reference them when it’s time to set your goals.
6 SMART Goal Examples That’ll Make You a Better Marketer 1. Blog Traffic Goal Specific: I want to boost our blog’s traffic by increasing our weekly publishing frequency from 5 to 8 times a week. Our two bloggers will increase their workload from writing 2 posts a week to 3 posts a week, and our editor will increase her workload from writing 1 post a week to 2 posts a week. Measureable: An 8% increase is our goal. Attainable: Our blog traffic increased by 5% last month when we increased our weekly publishing frequency from 3 to 5 times a week. Relevant: By increasing blog traffic, we’ll boost brand awareness and generate more leads, giving sales more opportunities to close. Time-Bound: End of this month SMART Goal: At the end of this month, our blog will see an 8% lift in traffic by increasing our weekly publishing frequency from 5 posts per week to 8 post per week. 2. Facebook Video Views Goal Specific: I want to boost our average views per native video by cutting our video content mix from 8 topics to our 5 most popular topics. Measurable: A 25% increase is our goal. Attainable: When we cut down our video content mix on Facebook from 10 topics to our 8 most popular topics six months ago, our average views per native video increased by 20%. Relevant: By increasing average views per native video on Facebook, we’ll boost our social media following and brand awareness, reaching more potential customers with our video content. Time-Bound: In 6 months. SMART Goal: In 6 months, we’ll see a 25% increase in average video views per native video on Facebook by cutting our video content mix from 8 topics to our 5 most popular topics. 3. Email Subscription Goal Specific: I want to boost the number of our email blog subscribers by increasing our Facebook advertising budget on blog posts that historically acquire the most email subscribers. Measurable: A 50% increase is our goal. Attainable: Since we started using this tactic three months ago, our email blog subscriptions have increased by 40%. Relevant: By increasing the number of our email blog subscribers, our blog will drive more traffic, boost brand awareness, and drive more leads to our sales team. Time-Bound: In 3 months. SMART Goal: In 3 months, we’ll see a 50% increase in the number of our email blog subscribers by increasing our Facebook advertising budget on posts that historically acquire the most blog subscribers. 4. Webinar Sign-up Goal Specific: I want to increase the number of sign-ups for our Facebook Messenger webinar by promoting it through social, email, our blog, and Facebook Messenger. Measurable: A 15% increase is our goal. Attainable: Our last Facebook messenger webinar saw a 10% increase in sign-ups when we only promoted it through social, email, and our blog. Relevant: When our webinars generate more leads, sales has more opportunities to close. Time-Bound: By April 10, the day of the webinar. SMART Goal: By April 10, the day of our webinar, we’ll see a 15% increase in sign-ups by promoting it through social, email, our blog, and Facebook messenger. 5. Landing Page Performance Goal Specific: I want our landing pages to generate more leads by switching from a one column form to a two column form. Measurable: A 30% increase is our goal. Attainable: When we A/B tested our traditional one column form vs. a two column form on our highest traffic landing pages, we discovered that two column forms convert 27% better than our traditional one column forms, at a 99% significance level. Relevant: If we generate more content leads, sales can close more customers. Time-Bound: One year from now. SMART Goal: One year from now, our landing pages will generate 30% more leads by switching their forms from one-column to two columns. 6. Link-Building Strategy Goal Specific: I want to increase our website’s organic traffic by developing a link-building strategy that gets other publishers to link to our website. This increases our ranking in search engine results, allowing us to generate more organic traffic. Measurable: 40 backlinks to our company homepage is our goal. Attainable: According to our SEO analysis tool, there are currently 500 low-quality links directing to our homepage from elsewhere on the internet. Given the number of partnerships we currently have with other businesses, and that we generate 10 new inbound links per month without any outreach on our part, an additional 40 inbound links from a single link-building campaign is a significant but feasible target. Relevant: Organic traffic is our top source of new leads, and backlinks is one of the biggest ranking factors on search engines like Google. If we build links from high-quality publications, our organic ranking increases, boosting our traffic and leads as a result. Time-Bound: 4 months from now. SMART Goal: Over the next four months, I will build 40 additional backlinks that direct to www.ourcompany.com. To do so, I will collaborate with Ellie and Andrew from our PR department to connect with publishers and develop an effective outreach strategy.
