TC's Practical Writing Tips
Like I said before, I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that I can teach anyone how to write – that's a level of hubris even I'm not capable of –but in honor of my rapidly approaching ~quarter century of writing original fiction anniversary~, I did figure I would share the tips that I live by when it comes to the act of writing.
So without further ado:
Write it now, fix it later
2. It is always permissible – and usually enjoyable – to write the stupidest possible version
3. "Inspiration" is great for poets, but poison for people who write prose
3.1: if you want to write often, you need to write often, and then you will find that you don't need to be "inspired" because you will have made a habit of it and it will come naturally 3.2: even one sentence a day is still one sentence a day. And even one sentence a week is still one sentence a week. It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop 3.3: believing in the concept that you need to be inspired to write will trap you into believing in the concept of writer's block 3.4: if you are having difficulty getting out words that satisfy you, lower your standards and keep writing (see point one)
4. A few months down the line you will not remember which words came easily and which words did not
5. It is always permissible to set a project aside for now, or forever, if you need a break
6. Read widely and often, both in your favorite genres and outside of them
6.1: pay special attention to both things that you love and things that you hate - study them, engage with them, learn what makes yourself tick and your writing can only get stronger
7. Never write for the lowest common denominator, via wise words I once heard: "if you open the window and make love to the world, your story will get pneumonia", have an audience in mind and the people who like what you write will find it
8. Never write for the bad faith critic, those people will always exist and you will need to deal with them at some point if you put your writing in the world, but they don't matter and you cannot live in fear of them
9. It's fine and normal to want engagement and praise, however you must find a way to make the act of writing joyful in and of itself – make the praise the cherry on top, not the entire sunday
9.1: writing is hard work, and it's a lot of work, if you lose the ability to enjoy the journey and are proceeding only for external rewards from others, you will gradually write less and less if the ratio of work to rewards is unsatisfying
10. For anything other than final copy editing, always write a new draft into a new document, or else the words you have already written will trap you from being able to make large, sweeping changes
10.1: any change you make will invariably snowball, and you must give space for that snowball to roll
11. If someone tells you that something doesn't work for them, believe them, because people know what they like. But if people try to tell you what to do to fix it, take that with an entire serving of salt because you are the author, not them
12. It is always morally correct to look at a critique that you received, even if you asked for opinions via beta reading, and decide that it's bullshit and doesn't apply to you
13. "write what you know" means "write what you're interested in"
14. "Show don't tell" applies to screenwriting, not novels. This is the thing that drives me the most insane every time I see it. Novels are words on a page, not images on a screen. They require a lot of telling. Not all telling, but a lot of telling. Become comfortable with that.
15. It is always, ALWAYS acceptable to use "said", do not listen to the lies of others
16. Have fun, do it out of love and you will never go astray
17. Become comfortable with who you are. Your work is always going to be yours and it is always going to sound like you wrote it, and this is a good thing! No one else is ever going to write exactly like you, and you should be proud of that
17.1: the concept of "originality" is vastly overrated, every culture has some version of Cinderella and we still love it. Your writing is yours because you wrote it, and it will always be unique because of that

👽 Jimmy's home and Sandtrap bar finished lots will follow in the next couple of days 👽
Jimmy is... something. That's for sure. Everybody in Oasis Springs knows Jimmy or at least heard of him. Or about his blog "The Earth is McFlatt".
Jimmy lives a peculiar lifestyle. His cabin in Bedrock Strait looks like he handcrafted it himself - which he obviously did. Can't trust nobody - he says. He prefers to stay off the grid, but neighbors swear they can see the computer screen shining through the window of his wooden bungalow. And there is also that satellite dish he tried to hide in the bushes... It's better to stay away from his place, really, not that Jimmy likes any visitors.
Before becoming a writer Jimmy lived from nectar making, a little source of income and happiness. His juice was good, but oh boy, the stories he had to tell - they were even better. That's how he suddenly got his first real job with a paycheck. His boss accidentally overheard him talking to himself about the mind controlling aliens, Sixam planet and abductions by flying saucers. Jimmy's stories were so awesome that he offered him a position of a blogger to write all of that down, share with people and make money off of it!
Reluctant at first, Jimmy agreed to the offer and that's how "The Earth is McFlatt" began. Sims all over the SIMNation just LOVED it.
Sudden popularity didn't change Jimmy much. He still lives in his old cabin, making nectar in the basement, researching and writing at nights. He didn't regret it for a single moment though and was inspired by his readers to open a club of like-minded Sims and together expose the alien conspiration. Now that even the Oasis Spring's Daily wrote an article about it the candidates for Jimmy's newest endeavor will for sure be queuing at the Sandtrap Den bar.
👽
Jimmy is ready to add some spice and drama to your game. You can play with him and explore his story further or make him a new, interesting Not-So Random Townie for your Sims to meet.
He has multiple outfits, job, likes and dislikes, extra traits and skills etc. related to his lifestyle to give him some deeper personality.
Unfortunately, the Clubs settings doesn't get saved together with a Sim who is a club leader, so Jimmy will be clubless in your game. You can ignore it, create one based on the picture below or follow your own idea.
Jimmy is the first official resident of Bedrock Strait, OS, in my save file, but you can have him in your game too.

On the topic of Flight Rising (as a fellow FR enjoyer) I'm curious what flight(s) you've been in? If you dont want to share thats fair but it's interesting to hear peoples reasonings. I joined in the early days of sign up windows, didn't have internet and got put in Lightning by a friend who made the account for me. It has been years and years, don't even know that friend anymore and am still a die hard Spark.
I was actually a Light flight to begin with! Which is another thing that must be an Absolute Shocker, I'm sure. Girlboything who likes writing was in the flight well known for being full of weird writers.
My move was to the Wind flight because minty green is my favorite color. I do love the aesthetic of the wind, the kites, and the traveling, but I'm actually saving up gems to go to Earth next. I think I vibe the most with its lore, even though its scenery is a little uggo. I love how many cities are there, I love the idea of the crypts and the hidden treasures, preserving and documenting history.
I kinda wish you got a free flight change every like... 5 years. That's more than long enough to be fair I think. I've been playing since 2016 which is actually 8 years so... idk give me free flight change. let me out. im literally from the travel guys let me travel

Hi there! This is probably such a silly question, so I'm sorry in advance, but in your fics, how long is a "cycle"?
I've gathered that a rotation is the equivalent of about a day (I think? lol) . Is a cycle the intergalactic equivalent of like a week or maybe a month in your fics? I originally thought a year, but in WAtG its stated that Jo "crosses paths with the Yondu Clan once every fifteen cycles or so." So a year seems like the wrong assumption on my part haha
Thank you ♡
hey honeycomb! these are SUCH FUN questions because i am such an UNHINGED NERD, especially about time and trying to make things make sense in space lol (also omg please never apologize for asking questions?? ever?? you’re a delight. curiosity is beautiful and giving other people a chance to explain their thoughts/loves/interests is a gift you give whenever you ask)
so first of all it’s worth noting that i’m pretty sure in at least one of the games, it’s the opposite — a cycle is like a day, i think? and a rotation is a week or a month? (i used to know this with more certainty because last year, i had researched obsessively to find out if there was a singular canonical way of measuring the passage of time in marvel-outer-space. fyi the short answer is no). worth noting: this is how i thought of time when i was writing ᯓ⋆。°✩practice because that takes place in the eidos universe but i deliberately didn't dwell on it too long so people could interpret the length of time however they wanted.
now, my understanding is that in the mcu, this is inverted. i had read that the mcu GOTG writers think of a rotation as being about a day and a cycle being about a week, so that is what i use in almost all of my other fics (especially the longer ones). sometimes in oneshots i default to day and week just for ease of understanding, especially for readers who may just stumble upon the story without having gotten used to my quirks.
now that’s the short answer and you can feel free to bail if you don’t want to read about the stupid amount of time i put into thinking about this lol. i swear I won’t hold it against you. for fucks sake SAVE YOURSELF
tsk. should've run.
as mentioned, i use “rotation” to indicate about a day, and “cycle” to indicate about a week. i also use “multicalendar circumrotations” or “circs” for a year-ish which is halfway made-up (the gotg holiday special mentions the multicalendar and i was like “i need a word that isn’t rotation or cycle or revolution to go with this” lol).
i also broke rotations into three shifts. for my purposes there are usually two wake shifts and one sleep shift per rotation, but i imagine some lifeforms require different amounts of rest and wakefulness - so while the start and end of shifts are standardized, how they are designated really varies by crew.
i think this was about all i had figured out when i was writing Window *:・゚✧* - I think I had maybe approximated a cycle at around 8-9 days and a circ at about a year and a half. but when i started writing cicatrix.⋆☁︎:・꧂ i was referencing longer lengths of time a lot more often (and needed at least a mental guide for things like decades and ccertain chunks of years), so i expanded on my time measurements a lot more thoroughly (see below).
i don’t have anything equivalent to months but at some point i was like “i need to indicate something more than a handful of cycles and less than a circ” and so i added quarter-circs to my lexicon ‘cause months didn’t make sense in the context of a sort of “intergalactic standard” of time measurement.
there was a time when i thought about breaking down hours and minutes and shit too but then i was honestly like “dae that’s fucking bonkers. stop girl” so i decided that most universal translators are capable of doing the basic math required to calculate smaller units of time across languages lol.
a rare glimpse of dae notes/references from the top of my cicatrix notes document:
rotation: 30 hours (10/10/10 shifts) cycle: 10 rotations (300 hours) (1.79 weeks) quarter: 10 cycles circumrotation: 40 cycles (71.6 weeks) (1.38 years) 10 years = 7.26 circumrotations 4.13 years = 3 circs
anyway that's it i think, that's everything, it's ridiculous and i'm ridiculous and also thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a total loser about this. i am very cool and normal
i truly do appreciate the question honestly. may your day be full of morning glories and your night be full of good movies and tasty popcorn

13 questions you'd ask Taylor about her artistry?
Okay so I’ve been thinking about this all week! Thank you for sending this ask. 🩵
1. How do you do know when a song you’ve been working on is done?
2. What’s your thought process when deciding which songs to include on an album and what order to put them in?
3. Going off of the previous question: how did you decide what songs to include on the Taylor’s Version vaults? Was it harder to pick for some albums than for others, and has it been odd going back through and releasing your past work, some of it quite old, when you have so much more experience in your craft now?
4. In the past few years, you’ve released albums with songs inspired by a wide range of topics. folklore and evermore have mostly fictionalized narratives, Midnights is about looking back at things that kept you up late throughout your life, and The Tortured Poets Department documents your state of mind while dealing with the fallout of two relationships ending in quick succession. Each of these albums also has very different sounds and styles of songs. How did you approach crafting these different albums, and how did the differing subject matter influence the styles of words and music of each album?
5. Similar to the above, each of your albums has a distinct visual identity. This has definitely been highlighted by how you’ve been officially visualizing the “eras” of each album in the Eras Tour and in recent merchandise. How do you decide the aesthetic of each album and the interplay between the album’s aesthetic and its content?
6. You’ve worked with a lot of different co-writers, producers, and singers over the years. How has your process for working with people changed over time, and how does it vary from person to person?
7. Is there anyone specific you haven’t worked with recently that you would like to work with again? What about someone you haven’t collaborated with who you would like to?
8. How does your process for writing a song change if you’re co-writing vs when you’re writing on your own?
9. Your songs have a lot of really great words that create a specific picture and feel for each song. A lot of fans like to joke that they need to pull out dictionaries when listening to your albums for the first time. What recommendations would you give for building an expanded vocabulary? How have you built up yours?
10. What kinds of books do you like to read? What poetry do you like, and what music have you been listening to lately?
(Purely for myself, I’d love to ask specifically if she’s read Lord of the Rings and/or likes Tolkien. There’s been some evidence the answer is yes, but I want to know for sure!)
11. Your music spans so many genres. You’ve gone from country to pop, and ventured into indie. A few of your songs have a rock sound. Do you think you’d like to do a rock album at any point, and in general is there any genre you’d like to do more of?
12. The Folklore Long Pond Studio Session film was such a great deep dive into what all of the songs on folklore are about, and an awesome window into your process. Would you ever do anything like that again? I know I’d love a similar deep dive into evermore.
13. You’ve been really busy in the past few years, but more productive than ever. Since 2020, you’ve released 4 new albums and 4 re-recorded Taylor’s Versions, a lot of which happened while getting ready for and being on the Eras Tour. All of this also happened after you moved from your old record label to your new one. Do you feel you have more freedom to release new things under your new label? I guess what I’m also trying to ask is, has this level of creative output always been usual for you, or did it only start in 2020?
+ 2 bonus questions:
• Because I’m really curious about the debut vault: There are a lot of people who are fans of your unreleased songs. How familiar are you or your team with that community? Relatedly, the vault for your first album must have a lot of contenders by definition, because it could include all the songs you wrote prior to that album’s release, over more time than all your other albums. Is/was it harder to pick what songs are in that vault because there are so many more options?
• You’ve done several songs for movie soundtracks over the years. Were those projects you were approached for, or ones you sought out? How do you decide which movies you make songs for, and does your creative process differ for these songs when compared to the process for ones on your own albums?

✨ UNHINGED WRITER GAME: CHAOS & CRAFT EDITION ✨
a tag game created by @maul-of-shame . I don't know if I can answer everything, 'cause some questions are really specific! (Thanks @sealinredshoes for tagging me! But I didn't think I'd have to think so much tonight!)
1./ If your writing had a scent, what would it be? Bonus points for weird answers (e.g., haunted lavender, burning VHS tape, library dust and daddy issues).
Probably the smell of my dog and cat, just behind their ears (I'm asked for something specific, so I give something specific!), and when a candle has just been blown out, mixed with the outside air rushing in through a window before it rains.
2./ What does your writing taste like? (e.g., strawberries and gunpowder, over-steeped tea with secrets, blood and fondue).
There is an Eastern European Christmas tea that is made with apple, cinnamon and cloves mainly, it's my comfort drink, I often did it before starting to write, plus the one-hour cooking leaves a sweet smell in the apartment for several hours. It's a very specific taste that I associated with writing.
3./ Your writing style walks into a bar. What drink does it order?
It would be too anxious to dare to go in. It would stumble and try to start its entrance again hoping no one saw him. And if it succeeded (after observing people do it) it would probably just have an apple juice.
4./ If your writing was a weather event, what would it be? Hurricane? Soft drizzle? Biblical plague?
The moment before a storm. When the air is heavy, when breathing becomes almost complicated, and you feel the rain before it has even fallen
5./ What song or sound effect would play every time you hit “new document”?
'Everybody wants to rule the world', when I still have the determination and believe that I will succeed in writing more than 3 chapters :')
6./ Which trope are you physically incapable of resisting, no matter how many times you’ve written it?
Doomed character <3 (I love torturing them and then killing them, but it's okay, they want to die!)
7./ What’s one trope you love writing but would absolutely roast in someone else’s fic?
I have no idea, I try to write what I like to read.
8./ What’s a red flag in your writing that you refuse to stop doing?
A lack of description. I tried to get rid of this red flag, but I can't do it, so I'll keep going and deal with it later.
9./ What’s a green flag in your writing that you are smugly proud of?
It's a complicated one. Maybe the way the characters interact with each other ?
10./ Do you write like a god descending from Olympus or like a raccoon in a trench coat trying to pass for human?
Like a 8 years old thinking she can write like a god.
11./ Do your OCs know they're in a story? If so, which one of them would threaten to beat you up?
No, but I think (I hope!) they would like me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that no one tries to beat me up.
12./ Which OC would try to unionize the cast? Which one would betray the union for a single grape?
Kay (the main character of my story) would try to unite everyone! Even if it kills her.
Erio is definitely the most loyal but also the one who could betray everyone for something stupid. He is old (more than a century), plus the accumulated traumas make it hard to know what could make him betray everyone. He's my little time bomb <3
13./ You’re now legally required to write a crackfic of your WIP. What’s the plot?
They would all find themselves locked in a space like a basement, gymnasium, ballroom, etc (pick your poison) and they are forced to discuss and solve their problems to get out.
14./ What would your WIP be called if it were: A Lifetime Movie, A 2000s emo album or A Pinterest board title?
I guess it would be :
- The day i accidentally joined a rebellion (not really what happen, but Kay sees it that way)
- when the nightmare ends
- lesbian knight!!
15./ Your antagonist now has a pet ferret that influences every plot decision. What happens?
Nothing changes, EXCEPT she kills people more easily to protect her baby ferret, she takes no risks, safety comes first
16./ Your favorite OC is now your therapist. What advice do they give you and are you okay?
So... My favorite OC is based on many of my traumas and I can't see myself posting the advice he would give me online. BUT I would feel so much better after talking to him!
17./ Your writing style is now a cryptid. What’s its name and where is it most likely to be spotted?
Technically, and I say technically, dinosaurs are cryptids (the category of relict populations), so it would obviously be a trex, or maybe an allosaurus, I love them so much! So more towards Asia, or Europe for the allosaurus.
I choose them especially because they are seen and represented as super predators, monsters reduced to their hunger, their teeth and their victims. But they were just animals, taking care of their children, playing with each other, protecting each other, looking after the weakest and the injured (as the skeleton of the trex Barbara proves). That's what I want my writing to represent. No matter the horrors, the traumas, there is beauty. Not everyone will tell about the beautiful things you've done or how you ended up doing horrible things, but those who truly love you will take the time to discover it.
18./ Who in your WIP would join a pyramid scheme and why?
Erio, because he would find it funny and then try to destroy them.
19./ You have to pitch your story to a medieval peasant. What do you say?
The story is at the stage of "I have three people I'm trying to get things to happen to in a way that I like" so it's not really going to be possible to answer
20./ If your writing was a disease, what are the symptoms?
Fever, eye irritation, lung problems and the best: ✨chronic pain✨
21./ Which of your WIPs would be most likely to summon a demon by accident?
The only one I have, and I don't even have a name for it :)
22./ What moment in your story is so self-indulgent you considered cutting it but kept it in because you’re a goblin?
Several of the scenes with my favorite lesbian couple! They're important to me, not for the story, but who cares?
23./ Which of your characters would flirt badly and with great confidence?
My main character, because she is inspired by me (except I don't really have the confidence, but she does!)
24./ Who would do well on a cooking competition show? Who would burn cereal?
The best friend of my main character, William, he really knows how to cook! And Kay would burn cereal (yeah, still inspired by me)
25./ Have you ever killed a character for dramatic effect only and then immediately wrote them a ghost scene or dream cameo because you missed them? (Be honest.)
Nope, when I kill someone, I want them dead and everyone destroyed, no consolation, even for me!
26./ What do you overuse like a man possessed? Em dashes? Vague poetic metaphors? Eyebrow quirks?
Pain ? I don't know if I use it too much but it's definitely a main theme in all my stories (both physically and mentally). It made me realise that I am always, like ALWAYS, stopping my main character from ending up with the one she loves... I think I have to go deal with some trauma, I'll be back.
27./ Ever write a metaphor so wild even you had to take a lap? Share it. Or a cursed simile.
Maybe? I don't really know, I have a really bad memory and I don't reread what I've written (that's why I spend my time starting my story again rather than going over what I've already written on it)
28./ Which character is 100% an accidental projection of your darkest impulse or deepest trauma and you just let that happen, huh?
Kay and Erio, the main character and the... Er... I don't know but he is important!
I wrote Kay with the purpose of showing my childhood self, who suddenly became disabled, that she could still be a main character. So Kay has my physical problems (and the traumas that go with them). Erio has all the others, so family, friendship, sexual, romantic, and other traumas.
29./ Lastly: if your writing had a warning label, what would it say?
Please understand that I don't understand what I wrote or why. Enjoy✨
I don't know a lot of people but @caliwolf84 and @tituboum you can participate if you want!! (Everyone can participate! Please, seize this opportunity to talk about you OC!)
And I don't know if I still thank you @sealinredshoes ! Do you know how long it took me to answer and how much I questioned myself?! (Just kidding, I'm really honored that you tagged me! <3)

I was tagged by @mightymightygnomepriest, thank you lovely
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
204 posted works under 2 pseuds
2. What is your AO3 wordcount?
484,365 as of 2/6/24.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly DC and Marvel now, but I'll dip into others from time to time
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Kiss and Tell (DC, M, wc 1,845) Paradise At My Fingertips (DC, T, wc 1,559) a bird on the edge of a blade (DC, T, wc 1,261) The Unbearable Lightness of Bedding (DC, T, wc 2,045) raps at my window, waits at the gate (DC, E, wc 2,865)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I want to, and I try to, but it's difficult when I fall behind. I cherish every comment like the treasures they are, but it's sometimes very difficult to respond.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't really do angst, and at least not angsty endings. The closest I get is Once More Into the Fray or The Road to Tartarus, both RQG fics and both ending with MCD. Somehow they're still not angsty.
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my endings are happy, or at least funny. I think maybe What Spring Does With the Cherry Trees?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Very rarely
9. Do you write smut? If so, which kind?
So much. Mostly M/M, but I occasionally do femslash, and sometimes omegaverse. I am far too willing to answer any challenge (or percieved challenge) that comes my way, so I have written a lot of different kinks, some of which were a struggle.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?
Yes! I love crossovers and write a lot of DC/Marvel, which is not crazy at all. I'm quite happy with the DC/Discworld fic I wrote, though.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, but there are some fics similar enough to mine that I have gotten anon messages about it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Baguettes At Dawn with @mightymightygnomepriest, and The Care And Feeding Of Tjelvar Stornsnasson, Or, What I Did Last Summer, by Edward Keystone, aged 27 with @ex-libris-craux a couple of years ago
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
So many. So, so many. Like many others, I shipped Gigolas before I knew what shipping was, and I don't think I'll ever stop shipping 00Q and Arthur/Eames. Current favourite is Jason/Slade, but I'm willing to ship Jason with almos anyone. Sailing up as a new fave is Jason/Frank Castle. And of course Winterhawk, which truly has some of the best writers out there.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Avignon, which I struggle with because of JKR. It's been ten years, so if I don't manage to pick it up this year, it's probably officially abandoned.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told I'm good at beginnings, and I like to set the scene with a bang -- which is a necessity when mainly writing shorter fics like I do. I've also been told my dialogue is good.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I like writing long paragraphs, which is not universally appreciated. I'm trying to find a balance. I struggle a lot with writing longer fics, and I think it's unlikely I'll aim for anything longer than 20k again, at least when I'm writing on my own.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it a couple of times, mostly single sentences in Russian for Nat or Bucky. As a reader, I enjoy it a lot.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
What Spring Does With the Cherry Trees is probably the one where I made the most effort and I think it shows. How To Get Ahead In Gotham was probably one of the most fun to write. But I think my actual favourite is Seven Days in June, which is a tiny little found documents-style thing and possibly the most me thing I've ever written.
No-pressure tagging: @ex-libris-craux @there-must-be-a-lock @drgrlfriend @katzynia @daisyapples

An Ask Game for Writers to Procrastinate Working on Your WIP(s)
Thank you @valeffelees for tagging me, I've seen this going around and been in the mood for ask games so this is great.
🦈 Tell us the name of one of your WIP(s)
Baz to The Past
🍄 Describe one of your WIPs in the format of “___ + ___ =___”
witness protection + freedom = runaway simon
🌍 What tags or warnings will your WIP(s) need if you intend to share it?
Gonna answer this with my original story as most of my fics don't really have warnings. Alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sexual violence, eating disorders, homophobia (historical and modern), gore, body horror (in the monster sense), domestic abuse, abusive relationships, PTSD, generational trauma, and suicidal thoughts. There's probably a lot more as I work on it, this story starts out very dark, everybody is fucked up, but a lot of the story is about the characters dealing with these things and recovering so its suppose to end on a much happier note
🧭 An alternative title to one of your WIP(s)?
No idea lol
⚠️ Which WIP you’re most likely to finish or update next?
Baz to the Past, everything else is still in just the brainstorming/plotting stages, but I'm still slowly working on BTTP
💾 What is the document of your WIP called? (Not the story title, but what you’ve saved it as.)
Time travel fic (thats what my outline for Baz to The Past is called lol)
🖍 Post any sentence from your WIP
(This is from a different time travel fic)
The window had lost its chill after the first hour, my breath leaving a permanent fog. By this point, I couldn’t focus on the scene passing by, the vibrations of the glass against my head coupled with the radio had a headache building behind my eyes. And yet, I didn’t care enough to move at the moment.
♻️ A scrapped idea for your current WIP
Had a character in my original story I was gonna have be a lesbian but scrapped that for her to be alloaro as it felt like it fit her character more (plus being somewhat aspect myself I wanted to add some rep)
🤔 What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
Paranormal youtuber snowbaz
🤡 How many WIPs are you actively working on?
Actively, 3. In total I probably got like 8 in some stages of progress
🛠 Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
Chapter four of BTTP, when simon and Baz come back from dinner
❤️ Not a question, just a second kudos to send.
Hell yeah
This was really fun. Apologies for any duplicates, idk whos done this or not, and no pressure to do it.

I will try to have in depth interviews with prominent gay figures and the ordinary fag. Unlike other magazine this magazine will not be, Gay white male oriented.
This magazine will be inclusive of everyone, lesbians, bi-sexuals and supporters. People of all races, colors and socio-economical backgrounds will be represented within these pages. Peace, Love + Hair Grease
Miss Trevor
Nineteen Ninety-Three, thirty-one years ago, three decades, a quarter of a century, seriously a lifetime ago, but one thing is consistent I have used the written word to express my feelings, values, failures and loves for a long damned time. Mind you, this was the furthest thing from a magazine, the first issue basically being double-sided text on colored office paper, it was all about the aspiration!
I would love to say my starting this zine/newsletter was an original idea but that would a fine piece of creative retelling of history. My college friend Matthew Carlin had a newsletter called TMCM, The Matt Carlin Mirror where he talked about his life, love, school and anything else that came to mind. It was his post-college way of keeping in touch with the friends made back in Ithaca, and like him I thought I could do the same and grow the fan-base I thought I had, in my head.
Tumblr media
Desktop publishing was a new idea in the early nineties, albeit Quark Xpress was started in 1981, it didn't become more widely used until the early nineties on Macintosh and Windows dominating the market share of the time. I wouldn't start using it myself until '95 somehow coping a bootleg version for my Mac SE. Previously I was using AppleWorks which later became ClarisWorks, this was basically just a word processing application, and I remember to create just one page I would have to create a text box in different positions and put them together when I printed it.
Below is one of the template pages from issue #2, there are three parts of this page, the find-a-word with its description below, Miss Moody Herself and the bits below it, and the three columns on the lower half. I didn't know how to make ClarisWork split up a page into different areas. I could easily make columns, but having something on the upper half of the page that was different than the content on the lower page had to be done by passing the document through the printer multiple times my Apple StyleWriter II.
Tumblr media
So in my digital files for one page I would sometimes have three or four ClarisWord docs. It made for a slightly confusing organizing of an issue because one four page issue could easily have twelve to sixteen files. Quark Xpress which I taught myself, would get rid of the need for multiple documents and multiple passes through the printer. It had become the standard for desktop publishing and it was appropriate that I should utilize the industry standard for my own mass-read publication.
Sorry, I went off into a technical rabbit hole, but I think part of understanding who I am is to understand my technical proficiency throughout my adult life, and even now, its one of the things that I seriously think gave me the edge when I went to work in the corporate world, the fact that I had dabbled in so many applications and technology made me hit the ground running faster than a lot of my contemporaries.
I wish I still had that old SE, I gave it back to the friend who I purchased it from as a payment for his ripping out the old red carpet in my new apartment, the same one I am living in today. The reason I would love to have it, is I know there was a special app I used to create the type for Fashion Fag Magazine, my initial logo, which would change by my third issue.
Looking back at this production this was truly the first manifestation of my artistic voice as an adult. As I am learning of my childhood where I attempted to draw, sing, perform and write a little bit, but here I was now taking writing to the forefront as a means of expression. Albeit untrained I was designing a newsletter about my life and my experiences, I was seeking to give a voice to my identities and the struggles faced there within.
Tumblr media
For all the wonderful things I learned at college, in this post-college queer world I was attempting to be seen for all the many aspects of my personhood, not just a body part, skin color or general aesthetic appeal. One of the backlashes of attending a primarily white educational institution, no matter had well-intentioned folks were, I was repeatedly othered. Sometimes by the people who looked like like me and had similar social-economic backgrounds, and others who loved the way I did with varying economic backgrounds but also failed to see the entire me.
Just a brief moment about the title, I have alway had a thing for fashion albeit my vision for myself and what was actually executed in the real-world wouldn't align until much later. I still felt I had the potential for a personal style that would surpass that of my peers.
Albeit the whyte queers weren't necessarily always the most fashion-forward of folks, particularly the ones I knew, I envisioned personal style being able to push the envelope and announce something more nuanced about my personality other than just being Black and queer. This voice would come to full fruition later, but Fashion Fag Magazine was precognition of what I knew would come in time.
Tumblr media
Through my observations about my world I wanted folks to see the world in the way that I did. And through my nine issues published from nineteen ninety-three through nineteen ninety-six I attempted just that, sometimes successful other-times failing miserable, but still trying to make myself seen and heard in a world that wasn't really checking it for people like me, dark-skinned, femme, gender non-conforming, queer, well-spoken, nerdy, comic book reading, dance the house down folk.
I am going to try to translate this classic text for a new audience, who am I fooling with my twelve followers here, but I look at this mini-blog as a digital obituary for my life, and its important to include all the bits and pieces of a life, so you're are not just broken down to legal document or a one-hundred and fifty word summary. For as long as Tumblr is around which may be less than the span of my life, I at least want to make an attempt to record my thoughts and feelings about the breadth of the experiences of Trevor A. Brown.

magnus early access thoughts (spoilers ahead, including character names) including thoughts about the writer of the episode which. idk if its public so if you dont wanna know, dont look.
1) god.. this episode was so harlan guthrie fr. ALSO SHE HAS MY EYES??? SAID VERBATIM? i know what you are sir. was hoping there’d be something like that. welcome back john doe and arthur
2) they were around the same age… and they never met…. my heart… 💔
3) okay well its all but confirmed celia is tma celia. “couple of all documents” my ass, both me and whatever dread power thats in the cctv know thats a lie girl
4) on a real one though this makes me think. their deaths were “mundane” and both ruled as accidents. i dont believe that the writers would bring back something so huge, only to say “oh by the way- they died a while back, rip” for no reason other than to fuck with us
*although, fucking with us is something they do. i wont put it past em
**ALSO, i know for a fucking fact jons ass was not biking, so until proven wrong im gonna assume martin was the biking accident and jon was the heart complication
***ALSO ALSO! HEART CONDITION? IF THAT IS HIM, WHO WAS STABBED LAST TIME? MAYBE IN THE HEART?? UHHHH which could mean nothing but I dunno gang. ive seen interpretations of him gettin shanked in the back, or the eye, even, but ive always thought it was the heart
5.) additionally, sam said they died nearly 20 years ago. this would put their deaths around 2004-2005. i dont know if this has any significance (though im sure somehow it might) but the extended support for windows n.t 4.0 extended server support supposedly ended December 31st, 2004. probably means nothing though, someone who knows about computers tell me more what that means
6.) NEVER MIND THAT! MY BABYGIRLS ARE BACK?
7.) i do wonder how they feed into this ESPECIALLY basira. im very intrigued by helen as well. i cant even form thoughts on what might be going on with them.
8.) this lends a bit more to the celia multiverse theory, but i wonder how many names shes going to “find in documents” before sam gets suspicious.
9.) i also noticed something in the last episode- when sam says “i can look out for myself” i remember there being a computer interruption. this complicated how i, at least, understand the system because i believed the interruptions were queued by just regular old lies- the character themselves says something untrue. however, this points more towards the computers acting as a ruler of objective truth. the computers decide what is and is not untrue, rather then the characters. meaning while WE understand its a lie and believe the characters do as well, that could not be the case. this is much more interesting to me, because if this is true, it could add a whole other layer to the celia situation.
10.) gwen and alice. 1.) give my babygirl gwen a break for the love of GOD but 2.) someone else said it on here first, and i really like the idea that theres going to be two “teams” of people in this show- sam and celia, who want to know more about the magnus institute, and gwen and alice, who are convinced that theyre under attack via the externals, or something else. this could be so incredibly interesting for character interaction. but also. the. the lesbians of all time?? the wlw of all time?? i need them TO KISS PLEASE (i also need to add alice’s mug to my collection)

Thanks for the fun we had, WordPad.
Microsoft has already dropped the axe in its native word processor in Windows 11 26040 Canary, after 28 years since its inception.
Tumblr media
A screenshot of Microsoft WordPad running on Windows 10.
After almost three decades, technology giant Microsoft has slashed WordPad off from the list of shipping features in its new operating systems.
Just in case you haven't heard of WordPad (it's probably not worth wallowing for you though), it is a word processor software that was included in Microsoft Windows releases—way back in Windows 95—which enabled users to edit documents with rich text, a subset of its paid counterpart's capabilities.
It sat as a somehow redundant middle ground between the minimal Notepad and the feature-packed Word all through these years, with its almost non-existent relevance gradually diminishing as Notepad and its equivalents close in through that space with more and better features.
As a no-fuss student writer, WordPad has been my mainstay for a decade—setting aside all those context however, I'm not here to write about my approval or dismay regarding Microsoft's decision but I would rather reminisce about my moments with this trusty software.
I recall my first encounters with this 'relic' as I was just scrolling through that classic, glassy Windows 7 start menu—it was way back in 2013, just a year after the disastrous release of Windows 8 which I despised with all my heart, and I was five years old at that time.
I never felt so ecstatic that time as I clicked on that "Windows Accessories" folder, which I stumbled upon about sixteen programs, some of which I have already used like Calculator, Paint, and File Explorer—I inevitably clicked on WordPad out of curiosity.
"What the heck is this?" I said so bluntly as the app interface showed in front of my face, since then, I was left wondering about Microsoft's rationale to include such software until I lost my Office license when I was twelve years old.
To be fair with the 'stagnant' software, I loved using it for every occasion that I find it necessary for—it was my no-fuss, uncluttered word processor for the peace of my mind, and I also found it snappier than my Microsoft Office Suite—which was a bit of a RAM hog and an overwhelming software to encounter for a kid.
During one of my online classes when I was 12, I had to pass a paper due in ten minutes, I can't open Microsoft Office at all and I don't like using Google Docs—there came WordPad, a familiar, hassle-free experience that got my paper passed within the last minute. That wasn't the last time that happened.
It's 2024 now, I'm already turning 16 years old and still sticking to a software that is twice my age— it's still amazing (this article was drafted in WordPad lmao), the experience never changed which have inevitably caused its long-delayed demise.

TC's Practical Writing Tips for 2025
I am back again! I've said it before and I will say it again now, I'm not coming here to pretend that I can tell you how to use the English language to write a book. That's not my jam.
However I've been writing for over 25 years, and I've written nearly 3.5 million words since 2009 (alas, I did not keep track before then). Whether people like my style or not, my output is undeniable, and I'm sharing the tips that I live by when it comes to the act of writing.
#1 - The Number One Most Important Rule is: write it now, fix it later
The job of any piece of writing, up until the point you decide it's done, is not to be good. It's only job is to exist. You can always fix it later.
#2 - The Second Most Important Rule is: don't let yourself get hung up in the ~mythology~ of being a writer
Writing is art, undeniable. Writing is cool, undeniable. Writing is also just A Thing That You Can Do. It's a physical act. Sometimes you need to pay attention to the part of writing that is just A Thing You Can Do. Being able to disentangle yourself from the IDEA of writing when you need to is a very useful skill.
#3 - It is always permissible – and usually enjoyable – to write the stupidest possible version (see rule #1)
Free yourself from the mindset that the writing must be good. Sometimes you just need to get the words out. Label a draft 'the stupid version' and go ham.
#4 - "Inspiration" is great for poets, but only a bonus for people who write prose (See rules #1 and #2)
If you want to write often, you need to write often. You will find that you don't need to be "inspired" because you've made a habit of it, and it will come naturally. Even one sentence a day is still one sentence a day. One sentence a week is still one sentence a week. It doesn't matter how slowly you go as long as you don't stop Believing in the concept that you need to be inspired to write will trap you into believing in the concept of writer's block If you are having difficulty getting words out that satisfy you, lower your standards and keep writing (see rule #1)
#5 - A few months down the line you will not remember which words came easily and which words did not (see rules #1 and #3)
#6 - Read widely and often, both in your favorite genres and outside of them
You cannot become a good author if you don't read. Pay special attention to things that you love and things that you hate, it will make your writing stronger.
#7 - At a certain point, you MUST write, not just think about writing
You won't get better if you don't practice.
#8 - Never write for the lowest common denominator
Via wise words I once heard: "if you open the window and make love to the world, your story will get pneumonia". Write your work the way you want to write it, and the people who will appreciate it will find it.
#9 - Never write for the bad-faith critic
There will always be people who engage in bad faith, and those people do not matter to you. You will need to learn how to deal with critique, and bad-faith critique, but you cannot live in fear of people like that.
#10- Find the joy in the ACT of writing
It is totally fine and normal to want engagement and praise! However you need to find a way to make the praise the cherry on top, not the entire sundae. Writing is hard work, and it's a lot of work, and it's a lot of work that goes unnoticed. If you lose the ability to enjoy the journey and are proceeding only for external rewards from others, you will gradually write less and less if the ratio of work to rewards is unsatisfying.
#11 - New draft? New document.
For anything other than final copy editing, it's almost always helpful to start in a new document. Any change you make will invariably snowball, and if you're trying to edit within the frame of words you've already written, it will trap you from being able to make large sweeping changes that those snowballs might suggest (or demand)
#12 - Listen when people tell you that something doesn't work for them
Sometimes an outsider can see things that you would miss by being too close, it can be a helpful perspective.
#13 - You are not obligated to listen when people try to tell you HOW to fix it
You are the author, not them. It may not even need to be fixed.
#14 - It is always morally correct to look at critique that you received, even if you asked for it, and decide that it's bullshit and doesn't apply to you (see rule #13)
#15 - "Write what you know" means "write what you're interested in"
You'll learn a lot of new things while you're researching what you're interested in! You will also have a lot of fun putting the things that you love into your work just because you love them.
#16 - "Show don't tell" applies to screenwriting, not novels.
The phrase show don't tell applies to showing the audience in a visual media. Novels are not visual media. They do require a lot of telling. Not all telling, but a lot of it. Both showing and telling are important to novels, but the things that you show are more relevant. The tightrope to walk as an author is "this meeting could have been an email". What does the audience actually have to know (be present at the scene for) versus what can be summarized or relayed through dialogue? Your mileage may vary on which percentage of each works best for you.
#17 - It is always, ALWAYS acceptable to use "said"
Said is invisible. Said is the nail upon which the picture is hung. People will not notice said. People will not get tired of the word said. Using the word said most of the time allows you to really emphasize the times when you don't use the word said. (Also applies to "asked")
#18 - Become comfortable with who you are
Your work is always going to be yours and it's always going to sound like you wrote it, and that is a good thing! That's the best thing! No one else is ever going to write exactly like you, and you should be proud of what you bring to the table as yourself. Of course keep striving to reach new heights and keep improving, but you're never going to outrun your own voice and experiences. Embrace them!
#19- Keep track of your word count in a way that makes sense to you
Some days will be easy. Some days will be hard. On the days when it's hard, it's very helpful to be able to look back and see how far you've come. It helps you remember again that some days will be easy. (see rule #5)
The best thing that you can do is to find the things that you need in order to write at the level of productivity you want to achieve, and find easy ways to wrap them into your own life. Spend some time soul-searching if you need to. You will gradually acquire your own list of tips to live by!
I hope everyone who reads this has a wonderful 2025 and that you all accomplish what you would like to accomplish. I'll be rooting for you!

Why Windows 7 is better than newer Windows versions
Why Windows 7 is better than newer Windows versions https://ift.tt/EW8aJfH Hi, everyone. I know I’ve slowly been posting less and less, but that’s just because of a bad schedule. But now, I’m back. I’m back and I can give you all a new post. I hope you all enjoy it, and let’s get right in to it. UI Windows 7 is known for having simplistic but good  UI. People have adored the Aero aesthetic. The Aero aesthetic is even starting to return because people love it so much. It has an intuitive ribbon UI seen all across the operating system. It also has the traditional start menu, something Windows 8 and 8.1 cannot say. The UI is quick and snappy, which brings us to the next section. Speed Windows 7 is incredibly quick and snappy. Even on bad hardware, it still manages to pull through and do most tasks fairly quickly. On good hardware, it can pass the test of speed with flying colors. It loads IE, explorer, and most common apps well, which makes sense, as they are mostly simple apps, but for daily use, it’s good. The speed could be because of a lack of clutter, which I’m going to bring up soon. Clutter Windows 7 and clutter should not be in the same sentence. It only has the absolutely necessary apps, such as a calculator, a word pad (a rich note and documents app, kind of like a Lite version of MS Word), a web browser, a widget app, etc. If you ever feel something is missing or needed, just download it online! New web browser? Find it with IE. Want a game or two? Just go and download Steam, or go to itch.io for web games or free download games. An upside of having no clutter is a big bump in speed. However, if you want to declutter on Windows 10, 11, or even 8, you have to forcibly go through a complicated process to get rid of a few bloatware apps. Overview Windows 7 may seem to be out of date by many people now, but that does not deny any of the points I have made. In my opinion, it is arguably one of the best Windows operating systems to this day, and many people would agree with me. Most of the points made in this post cannot be applied to Windows 8, 10, or 11, which is honestly such a shame, similarly to how it is sad that not that many apps support Windows 7 anymore. I hope you all enjoyed this blog post, but for more like this, make sure you tune in to the CheeseBlog soon for another post. Cya! Note: This entire blog post was made with Windows Live Writer, tell me if anything is off about the post’s styling, this way of creating posts is simple and quick, so I prefer it. Anyways, bye via CheeseBlog https://ift.tt/x7iQs0u December 14, 2024 at 11:22AM
