A/N So…  This is the result of me being sad over Opening Day being postponed, the MLB livestreaming game 7 of 2016 WS when my Cubs won, and having watched yesterday the episode where Rossi talks about this and puts up the W in his office wall *cries thinking about it* (I thrive everytime David Rossi of Criminal Minds or Nick Miller of New Girl make a reference about the Chicago Cubs lmao) Also in my head the Simmons family are huge Nationals fans just for the sake of the story lmao. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

Summary: It’s MLB’s Opening Day and since the Cubs are playing against the Nationals, Rossi invites the whole BAU fam to the Nats Park. (Please remember I suck at summaries)

Pairing: I guess there’s a little Spencer Reid x SSA (y/n) (y/l/n) there but it is mostly bonding time between the BAU fam.

“Well, this isn’t Wrigley Field but at least our Cubbies are playing” (y/n) said to David as they got to their seats.

It was MLB’s Opening Day and David had invited everyone to go and see his beloved Cubs playing against the Nationals, he was particularly excited that he finally had another Cubs fan in the team. They were both wearing Cubs jerseys and hats.

“Aren’t you supposed to be on the field playing? There’s enough of you to be a team” Prentiss teased the Simmons family, who were proudly wearing Nationals gear, all six of them had jerseys, even little Rose Mary.

“Very funny, Em, but actually we’re incomplete, there are nine team members on the diamond” Matt said with a laugh.

“Better start working on triplets then” Will said while he and JJ put sunscreen on their boys.

“Not a chance” Kristy was quick to answer braiding Lily’s hair.

The whole BAU family was there, even though not all of them were baseball fans, they felt it would be a good memory attending Opening Day all together.

“I have an extra Cubs hat if anyone wants it, maybe you Luke, come to your senses, come on” (y/n) teased Luke and he jokingly gasped while adjusting his Yankees hat.

“Haha, very funny, (y/l/n)”

“I’ll take it” Spencer, who was conveniently sitting next to her,  spoke and everyone hid their smirks, they knew he was doing it so he could impress (y/n), truth was he didn’t know much about sports, he had been busy with his lectures so he couldn’t do proper research on the sport but he was willing to learn as the game progressed.

“Yes! That’s the attitude, Spence” She happily gave it to him.

“Usually I’m more into hockey and football but this could be nice” JJ thought the weather was beautiful and the atmosphere at the park was nice.

“Wait, till this lasts 4 hours or more” Kristy joked with wide eyes.

“What!?”

“This is the king of sports and now I could finally prove it to you” Rossi was ecstatic being there.

“I love you, Dave but if this goes on for more than three hours I’ll leave you up to it and I’ll go to the house, or anywhere else”

“Yup, I want to tag along if that does happen” Penelope chimed in and Luke laughed.

“Count me in, I’m mainly here for the food and the beer” Emily added with a beer already on her hand.

“Amen to that” Tara was also holding a beer and putting on her sunglasses.

“I want a hot dog!” Michael got hungry at the mention of food.

“Sure, buddy, I’ll go grab you one”

“I’ll go with you, the kids also will want food any second now” Matt was quick to follow Will and soon Tara, Emily and (y/n) joined them to buy snacks for the rest of the team.

Soon they were back with a lot of food and drinks for all nineteen of them.

They all chatted about different things, they were seated in two rows so that they weren’t that far from each other, the game started and Matt, David and (y/n) were immediately lost in the game, the three of them talking about what their teams were doing good and what they could work on.

Kristy noticed Spencer was a little bit anxious, he moved his foot and every other minute he looked at (y/n), probably wishing he knew something about baseball so he could talk to her.

“First game, Spence?” She bounced Rose who was sitting in her lap.

“Uh, yeah” He turned to her and little Rose who was having the time of her life with a foam finger, that was almost as big as her, his uncle Dave had bought for her.

“Do you want to know more about how baseball works?” She offered and Spencer nodded desperately.

“Ok, so…”

And so Kristy began to explain to Spencer everything she had learned of the sport from her dad, brothers and Matt, she enjoyed watching the games before she started dating Matt but when they started dating, Matt’s love for it rubbed off on her.

It was the middle of the fourth inning and the Presidents race was happening, the kids were excited to see it. Soon JJ and Will had their sons on their shoulders, Matt had Jake, Luke had David, Kristy had Chloe and (y/n) had Lily while Penelope carried a happy Rose.

The scene of all of them cheering on the presidents was adorable, Krystall decided to take a video to capture the scene. The race ended and the kids were on their seats again talking about how cool it was to see the presidents run.

“I want my own giant foam caricature head” A tipsy Emily declared “Let’s all make our own foam heads and have a BAU race, woo!” She screamed and everyone laughed.

“It’s a good thing she didn’t drive here” Penelope said still holding Rose.

“I’ll take her home, I’m taking Spence too” (y/n) offered as she noticed a very quiet Spencer “Are you having fun?”

“Uh, yeah, this is nice, it’s my first baseball game but Kristy helped me out understanding the rules” Reid nodded as he ran a hand through his hair nervously.

“That’s great, you should’ve told me and I could’ve explained it to you on our way here”

“Don’t worry, it’s ok” His smile made (y/n) melt, his eyes looked particularly beautiful with the sunlight above them.

“Maybe it was best that Kristy explained it to you, I can get intense as I’m sure you noticed”

“I would say you’re passionate and it’s… It’s- really nice to see you talk about something you’re so passionate about, you know, besides work” He looked at her with a shy smile on his lips and noticed she was blushing, as she was going to say something Lily tapped on her shoulder.

“Aunt (y/n), are you gonna sing with me the baseball song?” She asked with a sweet voice.

“Of course, I’ll do that, maybe uncle Spencer can sing with us too” He looked terrified because he had no idea what they were talking about “We’re going to teach you a song so you can sing it with us during the middle of the 7th, ok?” More than asking, (y/n) was informing him he was going to sing with them and he nodded.

Soon  it was the 7th inning stretch and everyone were on their feet ready to sing, while Emily and Penelope didn’t know all of the lyrics they did their best, the rest of them happily sang “Take me out to the ball game”, Reid had Lily in his arms as she and (y/n) waved their arms in the air to the rhythm of the baseball classic.

“Take me out to the ballgame, take me out with the crowd, buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks, I don’t care if I ever get back, let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don’t win, it’s a shame, for it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out at the old ball game”

At the end of the game the Nationals had won, leaving the Simmons family, especially the kids very happy, so David and (y/n) weren’t that sad their team had lost if it meant the little ones being happy. 

The rest of the gang was also happy at how the day had turned out, as they expected they had a great time, after all, it wasn’t everyday they were able to do this kind of things all of them together.

Episode 6 - "Going to bide my time before I could take a shot at any of them." - Maynor

Damn, between Renee and Chloe to get the choppy choppy and it's Renee. the two people I have been speaking to. Wtf. Also clearly Chloe has not been stepping up that much with the social game. i need to find better people to align with.

Well, that didnt go according to plan and now Im by myself. I really trusted Renee in this game. Like I dont have anyone else in this game like that kind of connection. If Im being honest i dont think any of these people really want to work with me 🤷‍♂️ There like 3 people i feel like i can trust but they might just be total bs but theres Ian, Matt S, and Timmy. Even tho i feel like Timmy is gunna want to kill me soon. The only good thing is that i know F2,G2 were hits. So i need to guess at 5 am for 2 days to have all the hits me and Renee discovered. Hopefully no one has found this one either. Cuz i feel like i really need an idol if I end up in warzone again.

God not being us to Skype is really causing me inactivity. Hopefully it doesn't bite me in the ass.

Can i just scratch everything i said before? Im just gunna play a solo game from now on and not care about anyone else. No one really seems they want to play with me. So im just gunna be a floater in the game to try n make moves happen. Hopefully if i end up in warzone these people would actually try and talk game then waiting to the last ugly minute to is so annoying. The only person i hope voted with me is Matt. I really enjoyed talking to him so hopefully he is trustworthy. Like i also want to believe Trace voted Cloe but he doesnt seem someone you should trust but he was the one to tell me it was between Renee and Cloe so like he told the truth but maybe not the way he was voting. Rant down for now. Might have more.

Renee was voted out at the last Warzone, my initial reaction was she was voted out because she had won multiple immunities and people wanted to pick off others that were perceived as challenge threats.  This is partly influenced by my prerogative to vote off people who can beat me in challenges.  My whole premerge game is about me being perfectly average in challenges, I don't do the best but I don't do the worst.  I'm always a solid contributor to my tribe, this format has me second guessing that motif I have for myself. I questioned Corey when he was added back into the Nar chat as to why Renee was voted out, he reminded me of the fact that he felt Renee has had it out for him since the get go.  I believe him in that sense because he did say that to me on founding day of Nar.  If Corey fully swayed that vote to go to Renee because of those reasons that's a player I want to ally with and be my shield. I think there were ulterior motives going on behind it though.  That being said, I do want Corey to see me as a long term partner in this game, I shared with him the fact that I have an advantage, but not my true advantage.  I told him that I have a double vote, a double vote is probably the weakest power any one could have in Survivor but seems powerful in a Warzone type setting.  Letting him know I have a "double vote" endears him to my side, without him actually knowing I have a pretty strong advantage, The Topaz Idol. It's like a double vote but more like a multiple vote. Chloe keeps surviving and I am so fucking here for it, the more her tribe wants her gone the better it is for everyone on Nar if we can fucking stick together, I don't trust them to stay strong but who knows how people will hide when their neck is at risk.  Chloe is an "easy vote" shield but also a vote with Nar the more Ma'an, henceforth will be refered to as "Mane", wants her to be booted.

okay uhm.....so this confessional is coming after the tribal council in which renee was voted out. i was completely blindsided and not in the loop at all about the vote there. i ws told by literally everyone that the vote was chloe and that she was 100% going out. so when renee's name came up 6 times, i was completely shocked. corey told me that the reason i was left out of the loop for the vote was because i'm close to madison and madison is close to renee. so they didn't tell me so tht i wouldn't tell madison. hmm....seems fishy! let's just say i came out of this tribal council not trusting anyone but madison. i'm glad she is my partner and i'm gonna try and get us both immunity this round so that we don't risk going to another tribal bc i could def see us becoming a target soon

I had my masters exam today so i couldnt spend all day doing it which sucks. I only got up to 31. I dont think imma win immunity. Im most likely going to warzone and Imma be going home most likely if Madison/Jacob/Kage are in there. It sucks. Imma keep trying but i also work at 5pm and challenge is due at 7 so i lose 2 hrs there and its 3:20 right now. And cuz all this I havent eaten at all today.

What I have learned from this challenge is that both the movie Sausage Party as well as Female Genital Mutilation have more average searches per month than World Hunger..by a large margin too, and if that doesn't show what's wrong with this world then I don't know what will.

Corey sending me a message ‘i want to touch up on the vote from last night’ I said okay amd what happened? He has not responded at all. Like you lied thats the simplest answer. Because Renee and I werent coming for you so there wasnt a main reason that I could think of to take out Renee.  But gunna be nice and play like oh no worry, i understand. Going to bide my time before i could take a shot at any of them.

This is it, corey and devon are safe, nehe isnt. If I can get chloe and others on board nehe will go home tonight. However.... nehe told me he has an idol, so that complicates things. Ideally I can blindside him and we’re good, but doubting that I just have to make sure the other votes dont land on me. Which means... subtlety. Never my strong point.

Ah shit here we go again. Last tribal really left me with a lot of pieces to pick up and I’m really wishing we had done the easy thing and voted chloe. I like her but I worry that I won’t be able to salvage a relationship with Maynor and Madison who I do like. I’m content with being honest about flipping, even tho I did sort of augment the circumstances. It’s better than doubling down and saying I voted for chloe when I didn’t. And truly I do wish I had voted with them so I hope I can convey that. Being back with Adrian is interesting because he is super close with Corey and Corey sort of has some followers here who I don’t really have strong relationships with without him connecting us. I also feel really nervous about playerslike him and Nehe who are bringing old game shit in, and I don’t want to be collateral damage in their wars against one another. I’m ready to do my own damage.

With immunity again after last week's tribal council, I am feeling pretty good. Devon, Ian and Trace are immune with me and there p much couldn't be a better group of immune people (Trace and Adrian are interchangeable). I hope, from those who are at tribal, Madison, Matt, Adrian and Cullan make it out unscathed. Renee leaving last week was a success to me. I took the first shot and I didn't miss. It also gave me 5 people who I built trust with who will want to use me as an asset later on (those who were part of the plan). As for this tribal council, Maynor or Thomas leaving is ideal. We left Maynor out on the vote this week so I don't know if he'd flip easily to the other side (sort of like Chloe voting with us to get Renee out). However, to keep 4 available immunity positions in our tribe, ideally it's someone from the other side that leaves. I have not interacted with Thomas once nor Stevie (but Stevie is Owen's capricorn tribe mate). Those two boys leaving would be fine by me. I hope there are fights and drama and whatnot as the more things happen and we focus on other people's business, the more I can fade back into the background after getting Renee out last week. With Nehe at tribal this time, who knows. Ian and I have gotten really close and I hope to get far with him. He told me about his double vote and we made our loyalty/alliance to one another official I guess? I also am part of a 4 person alliance, termed "Golden Boys" of Devon, Adrian, Matt and myself. I am trying to set myself up as much as I can so that when we merge or tribes get swapped around, I have people I can rely on. We'll be down to 17 people tomorrow night which is still a very big number and way too early to be loud or making flashy moves. I'm in the process of uncovering an idol or some power of sorts and believe I will have it tomorrow because I have 4 hits on it as of today. I will tell Ian about it. I trust him. I am staying alert and continuously developing my social game to the best of my abilities.

I’m so happy I am safe this round! Kait, Owen, and I are the only ones on our tribe who have been immune every round. I would love for us to group together to keep each other safe, but also I know out of the three that I am the weakest one. But for the time being it seems like at least an okay idea. I will try to make it happen and see where it goes because we could all be good together  and work something out because when merge comes people will try to target those who have been safe for the longest time. At least naturally that’s what i would try since they are more likely to win individual immunity. I just hope things work out well for the next couple of rounds.

So I learned lots of things from Matt in this warzone. It looks like it was gunna 5-5 vote last time but he flipped last second not wanting it to be a tie. Im some what upset cuz Renee left but Matt wants to play with me so I feel like I can trust him. I hope. Turns out that Madison actually did vote with me last time so she is in my good side again and i feel bad for doubting she was with me. This vote I want it to go my way. Im hoping i can pull it off. My target is still unknown for right now. Im not the only one that feels like Nehe is a snake. Adrian and Matt know that he is a sneaky player. Tbh I would want to target him sooner rather than later.

I'm starting to think Madison is sitting out all of these challenges to get into the warzone to try to build relationships to propel herself forward if she makes merge, it's a risky strategy but would have huge pay off if it works. I'm gonna go ahead and subvert her expectations by pointing that out to Corey and hopefully get the rumor mill going against her. I see you and I don't like it.

So the vote looks like its gunna be Nehe and Im okay with that. I dont really trust him after he lied to me about the first vote we were together. It may bring my schances of immunity down to 3 but its worth having people to trust in this game.

Love the safety again...naturally I don’t have much to say because I haven’t gone to tribal in a while and I’m so thankful for that. Tbh I’m assuming Chloe will go tonight because it’s the easiest vote but who knows. Hoping it’s someone from the other tribe though that way there can still be 4 safe on my tribe. But also I want a twist tonight.

Tirns out I dont need to plot, we’re voting nehe tonight. Thanks Cullan. However, in case of an idol play I’m voting thomas, plausible deniability and all that.

Ok, so this vote I am controlling very well in my favor as long as I’m not the one going home. I believe I have everyone on Nehe and Nehe is voting Thomas. Nehe thinks all of Nar is voting with him to vote out Thomas who is inactive so let’s hope I don’t get blindsided.

So I went to the Welsh Open...

How did I get here?

Well, I’d wanted to go to the Welsh since it moved to Cardiff because 1) I’d been to Cardiff before and LOVED it, and 2) the Welsh was around my birthday (the 22nd) and I wanted to get back into a thing I’d been doing where I’d travel around my birthday. Things didn’t work out last year, but this year - with money in place and a greater sense of urgency since the country of my birth got fucked sideways in November, sending me into a psychological tailspin - was going to be the year. For those not keeping track, this would be my first ranking tournament, after going to qualifiers in Barnsley a couple years ago and an edition of the Seniors in Portsmouth a couple years before that. (Also that Judd/Ronnie exhibition at Goffs last year.)

The pleasant surprises started not long after I got my flights and announced on Twitter I’d be going: I got a DM from that guy in the photo up there offering tickets and passes for the days I was there. Shaun and I became acquainted through my efforts promoting his work with Snookerbacker on a new UK amateur system, but I didn’t expect he’d be such a mensch, and I should’ve known better. When the time came, I rustled up some Canadian thank-you gifts and flew to Gatwick, then took the train out to Cardiff (going past my brief home of Bristol, which I’d intended to visit but ended up not visiting, which can be put down to time and a pang of melancholy telling me it may be too soon).

I was to be at Motorpoint Arena for the first three days because I wanted to see as many players and matches as possible and didn’t want to miss anyone because they lost. That would end up being especially wise, considering how many top players fell in the first two rounds (including that guy at the top), often a result of Best-of-7s. I liked the idea of being able to make my way around the venue watching what I wanted of matches going on at eight tables, though this was trickier in practice considering the creakiness of the temporary stands and doors and the different entrances in players’ eyelines. But everyone did what they could under the circumstances, except when they didn’t. 

The first day was probably the most eventful day in my mind. I had finished some work late the previous night at the hotel. Having received my laminate for the players’ lounge from the nice man at the World Snooker desk (thanks, Smurf), I went up to see if I could settle in and upload my file there. Turns out there were a lot of couches in front of matches on tv, coffee/tea, a (cash, duh) bar, the Media Centre beyond - and not enough wifi for my unwieldy file. Fair enough. I went off to the lovely Cardiff Central Library and did the upload. Upon returning and enjoying the Higgins/Baird match as well as the more Welsh-popular Page/Weston match (won by the rookie Page, starting his couple days of fame), I got an email saying my work needed to be redone because the client had sent a final “final version” of what I had to work on. Could I have the remix done by tomorrow morning? Ugh. That’s how the rest of my day at the snooker was spent sitting with my laptop connected to an outlet in an out-of-the-way corner of the players lounge. I tweeted Matt Huart (@ProSnookerBlog, whom I’d met in Barnsley before his WPBSA gig) to see if I could get any table/outlet space in the Media Centre, but he couldn’t swing it. I’d alerted my benefactor Smurf as well, who officially met me IRL with a hug in my chair - and didn’t succeed with the Media Centre either before his first match. So I remained, which was fine. I sent out a DM to Neal Foulds, whom I’d also become acquainted with on Twitter and was of course working for Eurosport, saying that if he had a minute to say hi he wouldn’t be able to miss me. Not long after, he came in and we had a great chat about Twitter, the tournament and various things around snooker that I didn’t know. Then we each had to get back to work. It was more than a little surreal getting my remix done as top players, friends and family went by, but I’ve had worse workplaces. My work was done by the end of the last match, and I made my way back to the hotel, first stopping at a takeaway. As I left with my food to continue on...Ronnie O’Sullivan walked by with his own takeaway. G’night, JV. 

I got to see Ronnie in his more usual habitat the next day, though he wasn’t at his best beating Tom Ford, nor when he was upset by Mark Davis later. I was thankful I’d already seen him in Goffs near the height of his exhibition powers. It was also great to see Michael White doing well on home soil, especially as this hasn’t been a great season for him so far. A little later, I found myself in a back row with my benefactor watching his mate Mark Allen operating a bit more slowly than usual. Shaun had felt obligated to watch him after he’d watched Shaun on a back table the previous night - and it was Pistol’s turn to pay for dinner. 😊 We talked weight loss, my work and of course getting the sport set right. Afterward, he introduced me to Mark and the boys went off for their meal...at Nando’s, as it happened (Mark’s pick).

Learning that Ali Carter was playing Zhao Xintong on a back table, I took the chance of streaming chunks of the match on Periscope. Anyone following me on Twitter knows I’m a big proponent of Periscoping tables that don’t get on tv or streams, despite some ridiculous quasi-rule by World Snooker that you’re not supposed to because of “rights” or something, although those are rights to matches NO ONE AWAY FROM THE VENUE CAN SEE and only several people attend. Anytime I ask someone go give it a go, they demure, not wanting to get into trouble. Evidently “they” told Mark Williams not to do it. But I went ahead and did it anyway. The most drama actually involved my devices having enough battery power - it was late in the day, and in the end I used my phone connected to my laptop open on the floor. 😂 Ali clocked me early on (SB, who’s working on his book, says he clocks everyone at his matches), but no one gave me any trouble about Periscoping. In fact, Zhao’s club, Vics Snooker Academy, was one of the few dozen viewers. Since I was Shaun’s guest, I apologized to him for breaking World Snooker rules (no, WS: he didn’t know ahead of time), but I still feel it was a worthwhile thing to do. 

Work would sneak its way back in my final day. I’d gotten an interview request from back in Toronto and the most solid wifi I’d have for it would be at my hotel at Gatwick, so I had to leave for the train at a certain time. Early on, I got to meet Dominic Dale, who was transitioning from playing to his comms gig for BBC Wales (a gig many of us hope he’ll have more often for more broadcasters). I’d bumped into him at an elevator in Barnsley and at a door in Cardiff the previous day, but it took his girlfriend Kerri (another Twitter acquaintance) to finally make it official. When other people around the lounge learned I was from Toronto, they’d mention the usual Canadians like Cliff and Kirk. (Notably, Mark King’s father Bill talked with me about Jim Wych and I got to tell him about his 6-Red tournaments.) Dom, true to form, asked about Maureen Seto (who’d once tried to get me to hold a cue properly and lost patience almost immediately) and Ontario fixtures Ed Galati and Terry Davidson. I don’t know why that kind of blew my mind. Speaking of blowing my mind and making things official, when Dom was away, Kerri let me in on what was at that point a secret and flashed me her new engagement ring, which Dom had presented on a cake the previous (Valentine’s) night. I had to stay quiet about it while she phoned her parents, but it didn’t take long after that before it went public.

It became clear I’d have to leave for the train while Shaun was playing his match, so I was able to give my thank-you gifts and say goodbyes beforehand. He had been so great making sure everything was cool for me and that I could ask any questions or get advice about the area (one flaw in the trip was there wasn’t much time to spend in Cardiff outside the venue), and only later did I learn he was dealing with a case of bronchitis. That might have been a factor in him being one of the top seeds to fall in that match in that screengrab at the beginning. Boileau got out to a fast lead, but Smurf was starting to catch up when I had to sneak out and hurry to my train - WHICH WOULDN’T ALLOW ME TO STREAM THE REST OF THE MATCH. 😂 I had to learn of his loss the old-fashioned way, on the World Snooker live scores. But I did make it to my hotel in time for my Skype interview and the plane home the next morning. 

In the end, Stuart Bingham (the first player I saw when I arrived, standing at the elevator) beat Judd Trump (whom I wanted to win - Bristol!) in the final, which I watched as usual from my apartment in Toronto. I’d left behind a debit card, a pin and my favourite cork travel mug; but had gained great memories and a fresh brain not quite as full of dread. Some of those memories include the Pundit Fishbowl, the Vodka Slushies (no, I didn’t get one!), Hossein Vafaei Ayouri and Igor Figueiredo hanging out together and scoring some upsets, finding I couldn’t walk up three flights of stairs and answer Shaun’s question about what’s going on in the U.S. at the same time, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh’s ridiculous breaks, some guy named Trevor who kept charging his phone by my work station, sitting alone with Marco Fu three couches apart watching a match and saying nothing for at least a half-hour, the people who wouldn’t be the slightest bit contrite when their phones went off, Adam Stefanow’s stripey waistcoat back, Willo’s can’t-possibly-be-15 protegé “Action” Jackson...

And of course, Smurf being a mensch. (That’s just fun to say.) Thanks, everybody.
