Although neither was a family sim, parenting came surprisingly easy to both Bree and Jasper. Baby Rosalind was also a very happy baby, slept through most of the night and loved to spend time on her playmat.

Maybe it was the realization that a baby was not the worst thing to happen to a sim that led them to be more careless in bed, because a few months after Rosalind's birth Bree was experiencing the same symptoms that she had when she was pregnant.

For Rosalind's first growing-up Jasper even organized a professionally decorated cake to be shipped to Pinnacle Peaks.

Echohusk died in the night. For a moment, Fogmeadow thought by some miracle she might recover; she found enough breath to argue with Magpiefreckle. But when he woke from his nest in the morning, her fur had already gone cold. They held a warrior ceremony for Bluebellpaw at sunhigh, with a funeral to follow. Cinnamonstar’s naming felt lackluster; “I name you Bluebellbat in honor of an Echo,” and everyone nodded like that made sense. The orange-furred tabby hunched and bleakly touched noses with Cinnamonstar, wishing that Echohusk could have waited just a few more hours to see her last apprentice receive his warrior name.

Before moonhigh, Magpiefreckle was named deputy. There was no way to follow the rules of taking an apprentice before becoming deputy in a Clan this small, with no apprentices or kits. Cinnamonstar felt StarClan had waived that requirement when they added Echohusk to their ranks.

To give the ruin of the day its final touch, Cinnamonstar came running back from her solo evening patrol with bad news; FlaxClan had harassed her at the border, throwing jeers at the lonesome leader and skirmishing. No harm came to her, but her pride was wounded and the fragile standing of MistClan amongst their neighbors had been soured. The whole Clan looked ahead at the new year, terrified of what it might bring.

After an extensive tour of the outside tanks...

...as well as the inside workings of the wastewater plant, the mayor looked a lot calmer already.

"So those devices monitor the water quality and adjust accordingly all on their own?", Caleb was impressed. "They do. Fergus did a really great job on them!", Bree remarked. "But just to make sure I will also take samples regularly to ensure they are measuring correctly."

"I read something in the SimCity Times the other day...", Finley said as they stood beside one of the water reservoirs after finishing their tour. "About projects being like babies."

Caleb sighed on the inside. Here we go again with one of Finley's metaphors.... He loved his best friend but he just heard too many of her weird metaphors over the years.

"And it is true! Because just like it takes a village to raise a child, it took all of you to finish this project! And I'd just like to say that I'm really glad that you guys are part of this 'village'!"

Actually, Caleb thought. That was unexpectedly sweet... Maybe all those books on how to hold speeches had payed off after all.

Batsuit Mark 2

From Bruce's Journal:

After a few months in the prototype Batsuit, I learned what worked and what did not. The design was good, but the purple gloves were too much, drew attention when Batman needed to blend into the shadows.

The gloves are now black and the suit has built in Kevlar plates to protect me. The belt is still yellow but is now optimised to carry as much as possible but be slim. Still needs work. But it will do.

Crime has gotten worse since I came back and created Batman. His presence seems to suggest a sense of 'escalation'. I have already seen it with the Red Hood and others, sporting masks and garish costumes. Is it because of me?
