Hello world! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA these past few months. I can’t say I won’t disappear again but I’m coming back to share with you the little Downton Abbey road trip I made last month :)
I also made a vlog about it (there’s English Subtitles), the Downton part is in the first 20 minutes. You can find it here 👇🏻
youtube
I went to Bampton (aka Downton Village), Cogges Manor Farm (aka Yew Tree Farm), Portal Memorial Hall (aka the school) and Basildon Park (aka Grantham house).

Samantha Bond, Raquel Cassidy, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, and Laura Carmichael in Downton Abbey (2010) S6E4
Ladys' maid Phyllis Baxter gets a visit from the police, which brings her closer to the supportive Mr Molesley whilst there is good news for Anna, though when disaster appears to hit her the returning Tom Branson and Mary join forces to help her. Thinking that the Crawleys are about to "break their word" to give Mr. Mason Yew Tree Farm, Daisy is ready to confront them though does not yet know how the situation will turn out.Violet - unsuccessfully - attempts to coerce her friend Lady Shackleton into supporting her in the ongoing hospital feud but Her Ladyship does introduce Mary to her nephew Henry, a dashing racing car driver. Elsewhere Edith's plan to appoint a female editor reintroduces former housemaid Gwen, now married and successful, to the abbey, though Barrow's scheme to humiliate her only rebounds on him. And he also has cause for displeasure when the newlyweds return.
*The policeman says to Baxter 'It's not a Penny Dreadful'. He's referring to the popular Brit version of cheap, sensational pulp fiction sold in weekly installments in the late 19th century. They were very melodramatic, so he was telling Baxter the trial would not be like a Penny Dreadfu

Downton Abbey Fashion 54 - outdoors fashion in 1924
Edith spends so much time this season running to the Yew Tree Farm or to London that I’m not left wanting for nice coats and walking suits. Granted, Edith is not playing with the tomboy looks Mary is trying out, but overall I find her wardrobe more elegant. Then again, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m biased.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with a blue felt coat that I admittedly like better with the collar open and flat rather than shut to a turtleneck. Other than that, it’s your typical 1920s coat that doesn’t have much going on cut-wise. I do like that pleat on the shoulder though; I wonder why it’s there.
Tumblr media
For a change, we get a cape instead of a coat. Edith could’ve chosen a nicer color for her shirt underneath this or for the hat to let it pop a little, but there’s only so much criticism I can heap on outfits with Tartan. The hat has a cute ornamental trim, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of Edith’s pining suits, in which she stands in a semi-distance to the Yew Tree Farm and quietly looks at Marigold living her toddler life away from her. On the plus side, she’s looking like a fashion queen in this outfit, but I guess it ain’t helping the heartbreak. The Tartan tweed is a winner, and the skirt should be a split skirt if she’s bicycling in it and if it’s got that much volume. The asymmetrical collar is almost more Mary style than Edith, but it looks pretty nice with this diamond yoke construction. The hat is not the pop of color one could hope for, but it has a nice pattern punched into the brim.
Tumblr media
Heh. This is not a new outfit; I’m just bringing it up again for fun. This? Was Mary’s tatty prostration coat for her confession to Matthew in late season 2. It looked worn and out of place then, and it’s looking worn and out of place now. Someone write me a wacky fanfic about how this came into elegant Mary’s possession, and how it made its way into Edith’s possession by 1924.
Tumblr media
Similar in color, but in a much better condition, this is the coat Edith wears for babysitting her own daughter at Yew Tree Farm. And when Mrs Drewe throws a fit at her because Edith kidnapped the child all the way to the Drewes’ own backyard. The coat is not a bad choice for hanging out on a farm, looks sturdy, nothing fancy. But Edith is serving headscarves again, and I love it.
Tumblr media
Have I mentioned I love it when Edith embraces colorful prints? Well, I do. The dress in and of itself is so nice that it’s a shame we never see it on its own, but then it comes with this coat and its Paisley-printed cuffs and collar, and manages to look not completely cluttered? Sweet. This is a lovely outfit, up to the brown velvet hatband.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bit tamer, but Edith’s shirts are still doing wild prints, the first one seeming to be inspired by figures on early ancient Greek ceramics. And another blue coat goes on top of it, this one without lapels, nicely matching the blue skirt. The shape of the first hat intrigues me, this kind of wavy upturned brim. But back to the coat: Edith will get a lot of wear out of this one in season 6. The green tie neck blouse and the yellow crochet shirt with the tassel are just two of several items she’ll combine with this, but I took these shots in here because they allow me a look at the structuring in the back, plus another couple sweet hatbands. The velvet hat in the second picture is a beauty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, this one is lovely. Not just the color, but also how the lapels repeat the little arrow configuration from the waist. Edith wears this to a variety of outfits, but they are usually a combination of blues and soft cream shades, giving her a bit of a sunny look that she’s otherwise missing for much of the season. Also, Edith’s taste in earrings matches mine. Also-also, this thin, bejeweled little pin she has on her lapel in the second picture? Mary wears a little something of the same shape; perhaps that’s a Thing at the time. The coat comes back in season 6 when Edith gets to pair it with more cute hats and her nice office suits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other grey walking suit, and more pining. Although Edith does wear this with a spot of color on one occasion, so there’s that. Actually, the red shirt is taking up a color that appears in the tweed of the coat, if only very subtly, but it may be visible on the first picture. I like the hat; it has a very pretty ribbon on it. And since I have only so much to say about rectangular coats with straight lapels, a few buttons, and no cuffs, let’s look at the skirt. Oh, how it has led me astray! God, I wish I knew how this configuration of inward-turned pleating works. I suspect this may be another split skirt and the additional volume in the kick pleats hides its secret-pants status.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another brown coat. Eh, this one’s not doing much. It does combine rather well, but I never get to see this lilies-of-the-valley shirt on its own, and the blue suit in season 6 very much can stand on its own and isn’t reliant on the arrow collar to spice it up. Nice hats? Especially the one with the flower. And also a very skeptically-looking toddler.
Tumblr media
It’s a little outing to a restaurant and Edith is back to wearing sleeveless dresses and lively colors, a burnt orange speckled with little brown rectangles. There’s not so much to it and I can’t see much of it, but I think the outfit looks sweet; I like this shape of hat on Edith and it has a woven hatband with a pretty pattern.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last walking suit for Edith this season, although this one is not associated with pining for her daughter. For being finally out of her depression, this look is quite devoid of color. Another brown hat, and this one doesn’t even have a punched design. Another grey skirt, another grey coat. The tweed is nice and the outfit has some movement and shaping to it, loosening up the usual 1920s rectangle impression. Like most of the season finale’s outfits, this one gets taken over into season 6 which is when Edith puts it on with the loveliest turquoise set of scarf and hatband. Nice. Side note: Sybbie, George, and Marigold being out of their nappies tempted me for a second to have a look at the children’s fashion, but I could resist.

soooo baffled by today's announced change to demonic digger.
like on one hand i can understand that instant allotment+herb harvest would affect top-end farming XP rates more than it sounds like it would. but I'm not convinced this wold truly change the meta any more than 'use the demonic digger if you can afford it' (which will already be a meta if they make it an upgrade AT ALL). they say they're worried about allotments being better XP than tree runs, but that makes zero sense because... you can do both? allotments will still have to grow even if you instant harvest them on every cooldown? the most efficient farming XP rush would STILL include tree runs on every cooldown, it just might ALSO include allotments. it doesn't matter if the theoretical XP/hour of allotment harvesting becomes better than tree harvesting because they are both still time-gated. some players might choose to focus on herb/allotment runs to get farming XP and not doing tree runs, but I doubt it would shift things that much, because the best way to hit a farming level goal quickly (in terms of real-time) would still be to do every patch that's worthwhile, which would include tree patches.
reading comments in 07scape and most people seem upset about this but a few people are trying to defend jagex's side, mostly about how this might affect the value of tree seeds. i can't deny that it might lower tree seed values if they went from unequivocally the best farming XP method to partly the best XP method, but they'd still have demand as I said, and stuff like magic trees would still be held up by the fact that they're the biggest/fastest XP drops, needed for max-efficiency tangleroot hunting, farming contracts, etc.
ALSO also, i haven't done the math myself on what the rates would be from different allotment crops, but I will hazard a guess that most people calcing what the new "meta" XP would be an panicking are using snape grass for every allotment patch. and i have to wonder if those people are factoring in the fact that snape grass seeds are already pretty damn expensive and if this was the new meta would only shoot up even more as their supply is quite limited. IF watermelons are also 'too good' with the new digger, then I can see some concerns as watermelons and every other allotment seed below are ofc dirt cheap, but that's in part because the demand for them is so low currently. if they became worth using they'd go up in price a bit, albeit i'm not sure how much as there ARE larger sources of watermelon seeds than snape grass seeds (kraken, temple trekking, etc.)
Anyways, I think nerfing the spade to just "2x harvest rate" is incredibly dumb since you can already 2x harvest by spam clicking. literally so many other alternatives exist if they're worried about instant harvest being too much 'meta change' (which i don't even buy personally, but, yknow);
make it 3x or 4x or 5x harvest rate, literally any other rate that would be better than what is currently achievable with a regular spade, but still not instant if that's 'too op'
make it instant harvest but make it give 50% or 10% or even 0 xp for harvesting. then it's meta if farming for profit/pet chance, but not for XP. easy fucking solve.
let it be instant harvest and see what happens to seeds and adjust allotment seed rarity if necessary. (personally I doubt this would be needed unless watermelons become too OP, because as stated above, snapes are already high-demand and relatively expensive. they'd only become more expensive thus making this method technically 'meta' but inaccessible to a large percentage of players. just the same way that magic seeds are so much more expensive than yews, since they're 'BIS' for that type of patch).
let it be instant harvest given that it's a drop from a fucking ENDGAME boss. plenty of people will not be able to obtain/afford it. even if it's technically usable from lv 1, not everyone will have it from lv 1. same as not everyone has every patch unlocked from the start.
i just dont get it like as someone who genuinely does a lot of farming i was like 'damn that is a powerful upgrade so even though normally it feels a bit strange for a skilling upgrade to come from a high level boss, this one feels appropriate based on its power'. and now they made it fucking useless. like arguably worse than when dragon harpoon came from CoX. it felt a little unusual but justified to me before in terms of its power but i'm like if it's essentially just 'equippable spade that saves you a spam click' then it should be as accessible as something like the magic secateurs, or auto-weed, or the barbarian farming miniquest to get rid of needing a dibber, not a fucking endgame boss drop.

@swcrdheroed left a gift for Gloria💖: The next time Gloria visits the Weald she'll find a shortsword lying next to the bowls of food she'd left for Zacian and Zamazenta, now empty. Attached to it is a note that just says "For Gloria." How weird.
There's an anxious air to Gloria as she makes her way to the Weald. The entire walk there she catches herself glancing over her shoulder, searching the skies for anything out of the ordinary, jumping at every sound she's even slightly not used too. She saw the stranger going to Glimwood Tangle. He had no reason to suspect she was lying or tricking him. She's certain by now he's within the Tangle, likely getting turned around and losing his path with every step he takes. None the less paranoia racks at her mind, fear consuming her peace, not allowing her to drop her guard. It might have been better not to go to the Weald at all today, not after the run in she had with that strange man. After all she could be leading him there without even knowing it.
However she felt she could just avoid the Weald today either. What if the man was a distraction? What if someone else was there hunting the heroes without her knowing it? What if he had tricked her and found his way to the Weald without her knowing? What if? What if? What if? Her worries and concerns play on repeat in her head turning her walk to jog to a run when her feet cross the threshold from her family's farm into the fog covered woods. As has happened every time before the fog eats her tracks, the sounds of her footsteps echo from every which way, Pokemon cries cover her movement and the path she has taken before seems to change, to shift under her very feet. Even behind her the path she came from is no longer the same. The Weald bends and shapes itself differently every visit she makes, rarely does she notice and today is no different.
By the time she reaches the altar her heart is racing, eyes glancing all around in search of some sign that something was amiss. To her great relief nothing is off. The fog is surprisingly clear of this area with the sun shining through the trees to light up the Altar. As though trying to show her something. As she approaches the Altar light glimmering off metal catches her eye. She has to cover her eyes momentarily until she is next to the gift.
A simple yet well cared for short sword sits atop the altar, the silver hilt is bound tightly in braided leather with a rounded end. Gloria looks for any sign of who could have left this only to find herself completely alone in the Weald. A comfort as much as it is confusing. She raises the sword taking note of how much heavier a real sword is compared to the wooden one she brought with her to the Weald for training. She eyes the note attached. For her? She smiles, holding the sword closer to her yet being careful not to cut herself upon the finely sharpened edges.
"Yew 'ave my gratitude." She spokes aloud to no one, to herself, to those in the Weald that are listening in. "Ah promise tuh use dis tuh protect de Weald 'nd anyone else who might need protecin'. Ah also swear tuh take fine care a it." An oath made to herself and the ones she loves.

Ok so I’m currently looking out at the most beautiful nighttime view I have maybe ever seen in my life, my cousins spare bedroom window looks out directly onto the rolling farm fields and then a clear sea, there is a full moon placed perfectly in the middle of the sky and it is glittering on the still water, her garden has the most beautiful allotment and a yew tree with a tree house in it, bunting and ribbons tied on the branches and chicken coops in the long grass. There are boats moored in the water catching the moonlight. And I can see more stars than I ever can back home and there are just the right amount of fluffy clouds in the sky glowing silver with moonlight. The grass is waving ever so slightly in the breeze and I can smell salt water in the air.
Here are the pictures my phone took of this spectacular view.

moonglade/moonscales:
moonglade is the largest of a chain of islands called the moonscales. this is where the members of house silversea reside and would be considered their 'seat'.
the climate is compariable to countries located in the mediterranean. pre-climate change, of course.
moonglade palace, house silversea's main residence, is quite large and is located at the northern most tip of the island. the architecture is reminiscent of the greco-roman in style in real life, featuring arches, columns and domes.
a curious feature (at least to outsiders unaware of their true nature), are the stairs that lead directly into the water.
The throne room of Moonglade Keep is truly remarkable in terms of design and architecture. A large circle portion of the floor is made of glass that can see through to the waters below, sort of like a wild aquarium. It can be opened to allow merlings from their undersea kingdom in whenever they hold court.
underneath moonglade is a network of caves and caverns. there is a "stables" found within that houses hippocamps.
cereals, fruits and vegetables found on all islands: apples, apricots, artichokes, arugula, asparagus, barley, blackberries, broad beans cabbages, carrots, cherries, chickpeas, crabapples, cucumbers, figs, grapes, lemons, lentils, mulberries, nectarines, olives, oranges, peaches, peas, pears, plums, pomegranates, spinach, squash, watermelon, wheat, wild strawberries.
wildlife: anchovies, bats, blind-mole rats, blue crabs, cranes, crows, cuttlefish, deer, dolphins, doves, ducks, flamingos, foxes, frogs, geese, goats, grouse, hares, hawks, herons, ibis, jays, jellyfish, kingfishers, kites, lizards, lobster, lynxes, mackerel, magpies, mertens, mice, minnows, mussels, nightjars, octopus, osprey, orca, owls, oysters, pelicans, pigeons, pigs, pheasants, polecats, ring-necked parakeets, ravens, salamanders, sandpipers, sardines, seagulls, sea urchins, seals, sharks, sheep, shrews, shrikes, snakes, sperm whales, squid, sturgeon, swallows, swifts, tortoises, tuna, turtles, woodpeckers, wrens.
flowers, trees, plants, etc.: almond, althaea, amaryllis, anemone, aster, basil, bay laurel, beech, bellflower, cardamom, cassia, centaurea, chamomile, chestnut, cinnamon, cistus, chrysanthemum, clove, coriander, crocus, cumin, cypress, daphne, dianthus, dill, evergreen, fennel, fir, ginger, heliotrope, hellebore, hyacinth, iris, larkspur, lemon balm, licorice, lilac, lily, lotus, mandrake, marjoram, mastic tree, mint, myrtle, myrrh, narcissus, nutmeg, oak, oleander, oregano, orchid, palm tree, parsley, peony, pepper, pine, poplar, protea, rose, rosemary, saffron, sage, savory, sunflower, thyme, violet, walnut, wolf's bane, yarrow, yellow pheasant's eye, yew.
main trades include pearls, seafood, fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices, fish sauce, olive oil, as well as a specialized fabric dubbed seasilk.
several fishing villages can be found throughout the moonscales. fishing and farming are how a large number of the population makes a living.
do humans live there? yes. but the humans who live there are beholden to the silversea's in one way or another and are sworn to secrecy, lest a terrible fate befalls them. there are other merfolk populating the area as well.

A reminder that Mrs. Drewe has a daughter, whom she literally never mentions by name.
But she was willing for herself and her family of three children to be evicted from her husband's ancestral home of Yew Tree Farm.
For Marigold.
Tumblr media
I'm not saying Mr. Drew and Edith handled the situation well. At all. But Mrs. Drew was properly unhinged.
