RiseTMNT and Arcane AU

Theres no Rise Mystic/Magic, its all Arcane cannon magic

The hidden city becomes the Undercity/Zaun and NewYork is replaced by Piltover.

Humans are first class citizens, Yokai live in the Undercity as second class citizens and Mutants are third class.

Donnie(20) my beloved with spinal issues bcs of some accident in his youth working his ass off to gain footing in Piltover and trying to make the world a better place for the people in the Undercity(a Viktor replacement in a way). He left the Undercity about five years ago.

The rest of the turtles have to steal from humans, as one does, to survive. But when that stops being a reliable source of money for food (necessities in the Undercity are suuuper over priced, even to Piltover standars, but what are they gonna do? Go up top and buy there? Thats a joke.) Raph(23) goes to work for Big Mama and gains her as a patron in a way. Hes still massive and a scary bastard, he has a side hustle in the BloodDome as one of its best fighters.

Leo's(20) leader of the Firelights, a real revolutionary that one. After Raph started to work for BigMama, Leo took the reigns as Mike's(17) big bro. He started to gain a sort of street rep similar to Raph's, but in a much more "family man" kind of way. He is known to have loyalty that kills, the family comes first and if someone --even if they themselves are a part of the family-- threatens his family (especially the younger ones) they will face a painful death.

Mike's(17) know as the Icarus but simultaneously the Sun of the Undercity. He's a dreamer and almost all teens his age in the city love to hate him. The kids love him and his art of course, he even might teach you how to run the rooftops. But the teens hate how untouched by the cruel life in the Undercity he seems, there's a lot of prejudice in those thoughts in the "how dare a mutant be so care free". Of course they cant really DO anything to him, what with Leo and Raph's reputations on the streets (even if BigRed isnt around all that much) but they go to extreme lengths to ostracize him.

Splinter, a very reputable and beloved Council member that got mutated by ~mysterious circumstances~ that runs away to the Undercity only to find the four brothers.

Imagine with me, Donnie on the bridge that connects the Undercity Leo beside him begging him to cone home. He tells him how isolated Mike is, how Raph has been working and fighting for BigMama. How he needs to just come home so they can finally be a family again. A lie he knows all too well, he tells it to himself everytime he catches a glance of Raph on the more seedy parts of the Undercity standing over a beat up yokai, the pink glow of BigMama's drug enhancements reflecting off the alley's walls. He repeats it every time he sees the other teens ridicule Mike as if he were some sort of vermin.

If Donnie, his brother, his twin just comes home everything will be ok again. Its been so long and his back looks so much worse, and please just leave it all behind and come home.

Its an unfair ask, he knows that, its selfish but he cant do this anymore.

"I cant, i have a lot left to do still. I promised you id only go back when i found a way to make life better for everyone. And i did! I just need time-"

"How much time do you STILL need Donnie?! Its been five years! Mike's not a little kid anymore- hes seventeen! I almost cant recognize Raph anymore, Dad's gone and it feels like im losing YOU. What? Do you think you fit better up here?! Are you better than us now that you 'made it' up here?! Are you one of the good ones just because you have something to give them?!"

Its an ugly fight, words were said and their already fragile bond feels like someone took a serrated bread knife and cut into it a thousand times.

Leo has never wanted to die more than the day the news of the Council being blown up reaches his ears, the day the people of Zaun celebrated the start of a battle for freedom. The day he thought his brother was dead and the last thing they did together was fight.

(I haven't watched the new Arcane season but im very exited to lol)

The Yu-topia tanuki

Rikeijo's post about the censoring in the onsen scene in episode 4 made me remember this shot of this giant tanuki statue right before Viktor pulls Yuuri out of the water as I've always been wondering about its role. It also made me remember an intriguing fact regarding the private parts of tanukis, so I did some further research.

Tanukis, also known as Japanese racoon dogs (although they're genetically not related to racoons) are known in Japanese folklore as yokai of mischievous nature. So why does it appear in this scene?

Oversized scrotum

As yokai, Tanukis are associated with wealth and prosperity because of their magically expandable scrotums— a belief that dates back to the Kamakura period (12th century) when goldsmiths used tanuki skin (preferably from the stomach or the scrotum) to hammer gold to thin sheets as their skin. People thus believed that tanuki testicles must be full of gold. This is also how the term kintama 金玉 (literally "gold balls") for testicles came into being. Starting from the late Edo period, depictions of tanuki with oversized scrotums became popular in art. (Check out this article if you're interested in the multiple usages of tanuki scrotums in Japanese folklore. They even appear in a Ghibli movie!)

In episode 4, the tanuki appears when Yuuri agonises over his need to jump three quads in his free programme in order to win gold because he believes he's not good enough. Then Viktor takes Yuuri's hands and tells him in his bedroom voice why he is special and promises to create a free programme that maximises his strengths. Thus rather than this being a pun regarding the possible fictional properties of Yuuri's and Viktor's private parts, the tanuki sculpture being shown in exactly this moment could be interpreted as a promise of prosperity and good luck for Yuuri's next season.

Mischief

Apart from their magically inflatable scrotums, tanukis are also infamous for being tricksters and shapeshifters. They love to play tricks on humans. And there's no denying that lots of mischief in happens in the Yu-topia onsen since Viktor is there. There's not one scene in which Viktor doesn't breach onsen rules by not covering his private parts. But these are nowhere near the "mischief" he commits in this scene. In this sense, the tanuki statue foreshadows the mischief that follows right after Viktor pulls Yuuri out of the water.

To sum this up, the onsen scene in ep. 4 features three things traditionally attributed to tanukis

prosperity

good luck

shenanigans

and the tanuki sculpture encapsulates them neatly.

(I'm not gonna speculate why the Katsukis have a tanuki statue in their hot spring in the first place because this leads down a slippery slope of smutty conclusions lol)

Viktor Nikiforov grew up surrounded by the stories his father illustrated and his mother painstakingly recorded. Vasilisa Nikiforova, anthropologist and storykeeper, sought the origins of alpha and omega in Russian culture. She knew they were tied to the legends of old but she didn’t quite know how they were all related. However, the stories were protective over their origins. As she drew closer to the answer, both Vasilisa and Andrei disappeared leaving Viktor in the care of his teachers.

“Oh, just taking him home, and giving him the reward he truly deserved.” By deserved, means “Death”. The ‘Maiden’ gives a smile, such so pure, and kind, like a good little servant she’s supposed to be. She is not the type to be shaken up by such horrid actions, and committing such deeds for herself.

Under her charming act, lies her thoughts of being suspected. One must be careful, but not so careful that their mind is poisoned with paranoid. Tamamo no mae feels... an sense of dread when looking at him, as if, she’s dealing with another yokai.

It's Only Magic

Summary: Soulmates are the ONE thing Yuuri doesn't believe in. He's never actually met anyone who's had one. Not that he needs to see to believe. Alternate realities? Sure. Magic so powerful it breaks the laws of their world? Probably. Yokai and Spirits that exist on another plane of existence? Yup. But someone who's pre-destined to love you? No, that's going too far.

But Yuuri finds it increasingly hard to deny his soulmate's existence when he wakes up in the darkest, worst situation imaginable and hears Victor’s voice in his head.

I curious about where this fic is going. Set in a typically “magic fantasy” world with warring factions and classes of magic, Yuuri and Viktor are soulmates. Viktor is “the best Mage”, Yuuri a nonbeliever in soulmates and also a Mage. So some things are kept pretty cannon in spirit. But this story starts with a bang. Author says its set in “Books” (Book 1′s final chapter has just been posted at the time of this review) and I’m intrigues by the nuances of the world and characters. I also love high fantasy so this is very much in my lane. 

Give it a try, it might just be your cup of tea too.

He’s conveniently left out the part that Yuuri’s definitely magic, and that Vicchan and Makkachin are yokai, because something told him that there was a reason no one else knew about the other world.

“Yuuri, huh?” Chris echoes, a smirk curling on his lips. “And he gave you his dog just to make sure you had company? Sounds sneaky.”

I just start to suffocate if I put more than a blanket on me.”

Viktor Nikiforov grew up surrounded by the stories his father illustrated and his mother painstakingly recorded. Vasilisa Nikiforova, anthropologist and storykeeper, sought the origins of alpha and omega in Russian culture. She knew they were tied to the legends of old but she didn’t quite know how they were all related. However, the stories were protective over their origins. As she drew closer to the answer, both Vasilisa and Andrei disappeared leaving Viktor in the care of his teachers.

Yuuri Katsuki lived in a world of facts and reality. When his mother told stories of the Yokai and ghosts hanging around the Inn where he grew up, both he and his sister would smile indulgently and roll their eyes when her back was turned. His father warned them to not underestimate their mother’s stories. Training in Detroit, he meets his best friend Phichit (the all-knowing-Phichit) who may or may not be obsessed with Ghost Hunters (or maybe Ghost Adventures). Yuuri isn’t quite sure if he believes in ghosts but shakes his head at his friend who plans to have a social media empire and could probably hack into Fort Knox...except he has a healthy fear of enclosed spaces...like jail cells.
