An eventful few weeks for Wordpress, WP Engine, and Automattic. Every time I've sat to write a few lines about this, I've had to start over, as the situation has rapidly evolved. WP Engine sent a cease and desist to Automattic, and later sued the parent company of tumblr, and its founder Matt Mullenweg. Mullenweg has a history of responding to criticism in what I would call an unprofessional manner, using not only his own social channels, but those of the Wordpress Foundation. It is unfortunate to see another fracture in the open source space where users are victim to petty squabbles from those in positions of leadership. especially when some of those are inclined to act the way Mullenweg has.

15 year old hacker exposed a zendesk backdoor impacting a large swathe of F500 companies after the company declined to pay out associated bug bounties. its a shame that what should be a good relationship between bug hunters, especially ones showing a lot of promise in the early stages of their career, are met with such a poor disclosure / payout process. not to mention the latent financial impact of your product being known for not engaging with security researchers. zendesk has posted their own "retrospective" on the topic.

one of the mean salespeople keeps pushing our leaders to take zendesk away from my team. she keeps saying it's a huge waste of time because no one really uses it in the first place, plus she always has to talk to us via DMs or on the phone which makes sending a ticket as well a waste of time.
this is untrue. everyone EXCEPT HER sends tickets like normal people when they need something. also when she does bother to send a ticket she'll just send some useless message like "what's the update with Dell" with zero context. someone on my team will respond trying to pry more info out of her to no avail, then finally message or call her once they get fed up.
like lady it ain't zendesk that needs to go
