DRAMA REVIEW | The Quirky and The Charming (2025)

I really needed to watch a lighthearted romcom that it wouldn’t have unnecessary drama but it was mature enough to keep the story interesting.

The Quirky and the Charming fulfilled my expectations. I thought the story was solid, and the way the script developed the characters as well. Everyone was well fleshed out and no character felt one-dimensional, instead everyone pushed the story forward. I was also really pleased to see that those who did wrong to our main characters, are not magically forgiven but have to accept the consequences of their actions.

The second leads were fun in the way they created conflict for the leads, but never in a intrusive way. And the way their relationship was built felt organic.

As for the leads; I have never seen Lu Yang Yang before but she’s a really good leading lady. Her character, Yiran, was excellent but not perfect, and watching her grow as a person a delightful journey.

I have seen Xing Zhaolin in roles like this one before but, out of all of them, this is probably the best one. He still manages to hit all the romcom troupes but his character is more mature and tone down than other version, making him far more compelling and easy to cheer for. As a leading man, Mucheng, was a green flag from the beginning to end; but he too had to grow and it was thanks to Yiran he finds the courage to do so.

As a team, the leads are fun and endearing. Their relationship progression was really well written, not rushed but it’s not a slow burn either. It was perfectly timed, the right temperature, the right spice, the right love.

I guess that’s the best way to describe this drama. Although full of clichés and troupes, it was the right amount of everything. Never overboard, never boring.

If you are looking for a lighthearted romcom, this might be it.

These two. I can't!!! They are the real deal!!! Xianxia drama somehow isn't my cup of tea. But, these two mesmerized me right from the start. Since their first encounter in Princess Agents, never once I saw an amazing chemistry like this pair. Pretty sure, this excellent CP is unpar amongst others. The rare gem that can convey million words, emotions and feelings only with a single gaze in Chinese drama. Even more powerful than most of any kissing scenes on TV history.

📄 She is a programmer and wants to join a company. The CEO does not want to hire girls. She does not give up and passes herself off as a man at the interview. But this is not enough, misunderstandings with the CEO make the situation more complicated.

💝🔬⚧️ 30 ep with romance, gay panic, recognition of STEAM women, narration on gender roles and lots of comedy.

💻 Be careful, the language is full of computer metaphors, just how I like it!

🪧 It is a straight c-drama but it has innovative aspects. It is really nice to be able to see stories of working women, if this is the vision that Chinese society wants to pass off there is hope.

😌 Not a 10 for me but it is close.
