Hi again, I am the “zutara is so boring” anon, with the follow-up
so for those who asked for angsty dark kataang stories, I am sorry, they are not as easy to find, after all, since I am not reading as much atla fanfic as I used to. Some authors I remember have disappeared and so are their fics, and some I just don’t remember and can’t take time to search all the internet. I did read a number of dark kataang around 2020/2021 (and yes, it feels like several lifetimes ago).
Some categories are:
- other pairings where katara and aang have a good reason to break up in that AU, and the author likes both Katara and Aang and gives them good storylines.
- it’s Legend of Korra canon and Aang is dead.
- other dark Aus
Here are some darker stuff I found sifting through my old bookmarks and AO3
like Enough and The Deal by Chocomd
Gilded Cages by itsmoonpeaches (pretty new, haven’t read it yet, dark, but I love itsmoonpeaches)
there's a full moon rising, let's go dancing in the light by Zucchinibread

It’s National Zucchini Bread Day!
Many explorers who came to the Americas brought back what they considered strange foods, including the zucchini. The zucchini eventually found its way to Italy, where it was named zucchino. Native Americans referred to zucchini as "something eaten raw." However, we all know that zucchini tastes best cooked, especially in bread.
#ZucchiniBread is similar to other quick breads like banana bread. Other quick breads you might be familiar with making include muffins, scones, and biscuits. When baked, Zucchini and banana bread go into the oven in loaf pans. When finished, slice and serve with butter, peanut butter, jam, or just plain.

if you live your day will come
by ZucchiniBread In February, six months before his birthday, Peter tells Rhodey. It’s vindicating that he tells him and Rhodey doesn’t suggest talking to Tony about it. He knows. He’s done that same song and dance where they beg and plead and pretend it’s not falling on deaf ears. Together they gather. Social security card. Birth certificate. Rhodey shows him how to open a bank account, and then tells him about interest and loans and everything that matters when you have a little bit of money but doesn’t mean much when you’ve got a lot. It’s a hard letter to write. It spans the front and back, and he pours into it. And then he leaves. He leaves. - On Peter’s eighteenth birthday, Tony heads into his room in the morning around ten and finds a neatly made bed and a letter sitting on the pillow. Tony recalls reading the letter, stomach sinking lower and lower with each word, each anecdote of times Peter has begged him to sober up or to keep him out of the spotlight, or to stop destroying himself and asking Peter to watch. Peter wants a life of his own making, an iota of privacy. Tony lays on his son’s bed and cries until he’s nauseous, clutching the letter in a crumple against his heart.
