Schwab is a genius of a woman with some nasty work because she what do you mean “A king belongs with his people” vs “A prince belongs with his king”. And Rhy not opening that door is both him respecting his father’s wishes as well as him taking the final step to don his title of king. These whole two chapters have just been ow.

“Why?” she echoed. “Because the shadows can’t touch me, and the fallen won’t. Because I’m good with magic, and better with a blade, and I’ve got more power in my blood than you’ve got in this whole damned palace. Because I’ve no qualms about killing, and on top of it all, I’ve got a knack for keeping your sons—both of them—alive.”
Ooohhh, OOOHHHH, Delilah Bard, the woman that you are.

I'm rereading the Shades of Magic series, I've gotten to Conjuring of Light and I had somehow forgotten how much Lila and Kell are such simps for each other, even when parted they see the other in every passing person or hear them as their voice of reason but irl they're like ?????? We met like once ??, love!???no.

Alucard: I only ever see you awake, do you ever shut down or stop running? Lila: Oh, I’m always running. Lila: The question is from what.

Remember when the other day I said that the knife is an important symbol in Kell's life? How, the knife is both a reminder of Kell's Antari magic, Kell's new life at sea, and Lila herself. Well, it is also a reminded of Kell's life before he was sold to the Maresh family.
minor spoilers for Threads of Power
In the short story about how Kell was sold to the Maresh family on Maris' ship, the last thing Kell's biological mother gives to him is a knife with his initials K.L., and asks for forgiveness. Kell will never remember this. He will never remember his previous life as Kast Laros and doesn't want to. The knife symbolizes his past life and it's the only thing he takes it with him when he takes new identity as Kell Maresh the Antari prince. The knife ends up being the symbol of his new life as well, when Kell has to momentarily "shed" his Antari prince identity and persona to become Kay the privateer (loosely lol). Kast, Kell and Kay are different shades of the same person. They're all him. They're like his coat: every side belongs to the same coat but has different colors that fit different occasions. And the knife? The knife is a recurring symbol in Kell's life. Like the coat, it symbolizes different parts of himself. The parts that hurt the most: his past trauma, not being able to perform magic without suffering. And the parts that hurt less: his future and using a knife to fight/protect yourself and loving a knife. I will never stop saying that Lila is the personification of the knife in Kell's life. Kell loving Lila could also mean coming to terms with his own past and love himself more. Accept himself more. Forgive himself.
