Hauled some new books on my Kindle 🙈 They are a combination of Fantasy, Queer, Romance, and Horror which are one of my fave to read ✨ All of these are already released!

Leather & Lark (The Ruinous Love #2)- Dark contemporary romance, with gory/ horror content. Gave the first book, Butcher & Blackbird a 4 ⭐ A Novel Love Story- A contemporary romance with magic realism in which fmc/ reader finds herself in her favorite romance book series. A Darker Mischief- The Honeys meets The Secret History in a work of dark academia like no other -- a boarding school thriller about a queer teen from Mississippi who finds himself swept into a world of old money, privilege, and the secret society at the heart of it all.

The Actor and His Secret- A queer romance where a movie star and a book publicist had a one-night stand! Only For The Week- African American Romance Novel, sister of the bride (who's also the ex of the groom 🙈) X best man! Crossroads- Cowboy, childhood friends-lovers romance!

A Feather so Black- Fantasy Romance series with Celtic Mythology! Also tagged with a love triangle with a morally grey love interest. The Sky on Fire- From the acclaimed author of the Chorus of Dragons series, this propulsive new standalone fantasy is Dragonriders of Pern for a modern audience. I think I've heard that this is gonna be a full high fantasy novel with no romance. Empire of Silence- Hadrian Marlowe, a man revered as a hero and despised as a murderer, chronicles his tale in the galaxy-spanning debut of the Sun Eater series, merging the best of space opera and epic fantasy.

Scarlet- Historical fiction series set in Revolutionary France with vampires and fantasy elements. The Deer and the Dragon- Urban Fantasy with Mythology with angels and demons. Tender is the Flesh- Dystopia fiction where the government has legalized eating special meat- humans because of the virus of animal meat.

Super excited about these titles. I'm soon to be making my non arcs tbr for next month so hopefully some of these will be listed ❤

A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene

Lyrical and magical, A Feather So Black is a lush, romantic fantasy novel sure to enchant readers. I was worried, at first, that it would be a(nother) imitation of Maas’s blockbuster series that now proliferate the genre. And in some ways, I think it still may be. But Selene’s book stands strong on its own, thanks to a grounding in Irish folklore and culture. While I cannot be sure as to the veracity of her world to Irish myth and historical roots, the flavour of it is there, which will probably be enough for most readers. Certainly not a perfect book—parts of it are under-explained and under-developed, and some B and C-plots use up many pages, only to go nowhere. I can only hope that subsequent books, perhaps, help them have payoff. And I still am not sure if Fia’s character arc is well-written or not. But for all of that, I thoroughly enjoyed most of the book and was happily swept into Selene’s world. I suspect many readers will feel the same. Thanks to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the ebook ARC. All opinions are mine alone.

A Crown So Silver, Lyra Selene

Rounding up to 4 stars.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC, all thoughts are my own.

A Crown So Silver opens with a slow pace and does not fully pick up until about the 55% mark. I had a difficult time making my way through the first half for a few reasons. I was a bit unsure about the setting change at first, though I ended up enjoying it. And secondly, I absolutely LOVED the FMC, Fia, in A Feather So Black, but was really quickly annoyed with her in the first half of the book. Her character seemed to shift, and I didn't understand why she was acting so impulsively and a bit immature. And I was a bit confused how quickly so much conflict developed with the MMC, Irian, especially as it seemed their characters developed together in the first book.

BUT I am so glad I kept reading, because the second half of the book was really great. Fia's character change, actions, and the difficulties in her relationship were more heavily explained, and I began to understand and feel more empathetic towards her character. Additionally, we learned much more about Irian and what motivated his actions, which allowed for more development of their characters together. It was suspenseful, magically, and that ending!!!!! I cannot believe I will have to wait so long to get answers! The second half of the book is what brought this up to four stars for me.

Lyra Selene is fantastic, and I think her writing is beautiful!

I would 100% recommend both A Feather So Black and A Crown So Silver, and truly urge readers to be patient with the book while the story develops. It is worth it! Really, really looking forward to the next book.

possibly controversial opinion but a feather so black by lyra selene has such a better romance with a morally gray shadow-themed faerie guy than a court of thorns and roses that it's not even a competition. wild how books are better when authors understand that morally gray means "does bad things but feels that they are necessary" rather than "is an asshole to people but is secretly good underneath" and also that love interests should, you know, respect and support the main character rather than belittling and tormenting them.

Okay, I loved this so much. I mean, I feel like this author gave everything in this book, and I am in love.

Fia is just the perfect character. So flawed, frustrating at times, determined, but wow, does this character truly develop. Fia is on a mission from her Queen "Mother" with handsome prince Rogan to go to the land of the Folk and rescue her half-sister and retrieve an item of power. Yet, as you might expect.... things don't go as planned.

First, this is a long fantasy romance, and I hope you are prepared for this gorgeous story. There are adult themes (smut) and romance, but this just isn't the main plot... at least not way towards the end( and then it's seriously so good!).

This caught and held my attention primarily because it's a very unique story of the folk. I love reading anything fae, but this really took my imagination to just completely new places.

Highly recommend!
