idk how it’s only just now dawning on me why hannibal was intrigued by garret jacob hobbs. like beyond just idle curiosity about what would happen if he called to warn him about the fbi.

of course hannibal, someone whose whole supervillain origin story was being forced into cannibalizing his little sister, would be interested in a man like him. a man so desperate not to give into his urges to kill abigail that he would use her as bait to catch, kill, and eat other girls just like her???

Lately I have been thinking about ... and the Woman Clothed with the Sun.

It started with thinking about when the therapy took place, during which Hannibal suggested Abigail to cut her father's throat and ending with me comparing this scene to the plot of Oeuf...

In Oeuf, a woman who considered herself a mother convinced the boys that the family they were building was the right one and that you can have only one family, which is why they had to kill their biological relatives.

And in the episode ... and the Woman Clothed with the Sun, by encouraging Abigail to slit her father's throat, the same thing happens, only instead of a mother we have a father, and instead of a son we have a daughter.

Considering that Hannibal also had to rush to get Will out of the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, it seems to me that this "therapy" must have taken place shortly after faking Abigail's death. Hannibal wanted the three of them to leave the past behind and at the same time, he was trying to create positive associations for Abigail in relation to himself. Moments after Abigail slits her biological father's throat, Hannibal holds her close and tries to calm her down. As if, like when they faked her death together, he was asking her to accept him in the same way she accepted her father.

IT WAS HIS REQUEST TO ACCEPT HIM AS HER FATHER, JUST LIKE THE CHARACTER FROM OEUF REQUESTED THE KIDNAPPED BOYS TO ACCEPT HER AS THEIR MOTHER.

And Abigail was lost as the lost boys, no one knew she was still alive.
