I told my sister that bi, don't how I planned it be I don't care because she only asked me a few questions and even tho I didn't have the best answers seemed okay with it. Now I should have probably mentioned to her that the girl (now boy) that stayed at my place on the weekend wasn't my classmate or my friend but my new partner... But I don't know how to say it but I feel a bit more confident that the sister, who is like my mother was okay with it

Husband and I got into a debate the other day about children who refer to adults by their first names or Mr./Mrs./Miss Last name.

As a kid, I was never taught to call adults by Mr./Mrs/s, unless they, were, like, a teacher or doctor. Cause, like, that's what you do *in* school.

However, outside school, for adults that did not work in those feilds, it was always a first name basis. About 99% of adults never batted an eye about it.

HOWEVER, when I met my best friend's parents, they were VERY irked by it, and I never understood why until MUCH later in life.

like, I was 12 and calling them by their first names and they visibly recoiled. I always got very weird vibes from them, and never realized why. Finally when I did, I tried to correct myself and refer to them by Mr./Mrs. and they were STILL weird about! jfc, can't win!

ANYway, Husband said that it's not normal for kids to call adults by their first name and that's probably why the parents were so weird about it and that, socially, it's a sign of disrespect for your elders to refer to them by their first name.

But... to me... it always felt weird to call them a title (excluding teacher/doctor that is.)

So. What say you, tumblr? when you were a child, did YOU refer adults by their first name or nah?
