what i like about ada's report, & i'll get into it more eventually, is that despite it being ada explaining the plot (& her motivations) to you directly, it presents an interesting relationship between ada, a known liar & manipulator, & the audience. while she withholds information from other characters & skirts about on mystery throughout RE4 & separate ways, there is one person to whom she doesn't lie, to whom she does tell the truth, at least a part of it, & that is you, the player. it is a very neat narrative device that wouldn't work as well in a different medium
#* file // : OOC — ( 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑'𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐃𝐄 . )#not that anyone's actually fucking read ada's report people still think ada was saving leon out of love#in direct opposition to wesker's orders in the original re4#i wish this didn't make me mad but it does it's right there in plain english the nikita pose is a misdirection#it's subverting the trope she's part of a bigger conspiracy leon is a necessary piece of her mission#like the subversion of the femme fatale isn't subtle#they either die or are undone upon reveal of their treachery ada survives & lives beyond the logical endpoint of her character#she isn't weakened or completely changed in fact she learns how to manipulate the hero better for their next encounter#she isn't working for the villain both in that she tells you that she's only been pretending to this whole time#& that she works for another organization that's been spying on wesker through ada this whole time#but also the fact that wesker is neither the villain of re4 nor resident evil as a franchise he is another cog in the machine#just another one of umbrella's leftovers#see i know people think ada despises chris because he mistook her for carla one time on the tanker#but i think they've got a lot more in common than either is truly willing to admit should they actually ever speak to each other#i just think it's neat that she gets his line addressed to wesker to use on mr. x (just another one of umbrella's failed experiments)#darkside chronicles & re5 were developed around the same time i'm sure it's a coincidence

Not to kick a dead horse, but there is a way to make Pier's death genuinely very loaded and tragic that fandom consensus just seems to continue to miss! I've never seen a take about Piers's death being about PIERS, but all about "ooohh chris lost a good one" and how the two are not able to fuck anymore. But I am going to free you from these shackles while I zero in on Chris' comment of
"I wanted him to replace me."
Surely Piers was being trained to take Chris' job ideally after a decent retirement party, but neither of them get that luxury because Edonia happens, and Chris is gone. The beloved captain has vanished, and the person who's supposed to take his job is right there, so they give it to him. It's Piers responsibility to not only be a face of what the BSAA represents, but also the heavy shackles of expectations are slapped onto him.
Everyone wants Chris, which means Piers can't be himself nor figure out how to run the same jobs his way. No, it has to be Chris' way. There's no time for anyone to adjust and shift gears either with the C-Virus outbreaks, the terrorist attacks from Ada*(Carla), and the search party he shambled together to locate the missing Redfield. So he tries his damnedest to fill Chris' shoes and suddenly realizes just how out of his depth he is. There were so many reasons people called Chris for certain tasks, even tasks Piers hadn't known about and definitely hadn't been trained on, that Piers never saw. There's no mentor to dial. No reference other than fellow soldiers saying things like, "We don't know how, he just got it done," which is the least helpful thing in the world. Hell, there's barely any notes to go through when he searches Chris' office for a semblance of a hint as to how he should do this job.
Maybe it turns out Chris was doing his best to gently ease that heavy mantle into Piers' hands. It's why his scheduled retirement seemed so far away at the time. Perhaps, after one comment too many where he'd been accidentally addressed by the name of his captain for the 50th time, Piers breaks. He can't do this. He's not ready for this. He needs the one person who did all this back by any means necessary, so he drops all the work and joins the search party. He verbally harasses an amnesiac Chris into coming back because maybe it isn't that bad. Maybe Chris just needs a reminder of what he's been doing everyday for literal years and things would be back to normal again.
But it's not. It's messier. It's uglier. This isn't the Chris he worked so hard to fight alongside. There are glimpses of him in there, but most of the time in China, Piers feels like he's working with a stranger. People die, and Chris keeps pushing forward no matter how much he's shouted at, and Piers feels like this is all his fault. The deaths are his fault because he couldn't buckle down and do what Chris originally wanted him to do. Take Chris' place. Replace him. Be better than him.
So when they go to that underwater facility, and their backs are against the wall, there's the looming sense of failure and a terrifying amount of pressure. If they get out of this alive, who knows when Chris would be back in shape to work again if that ever happens. Piers would have to be responsible. He was already responsible for the squad he gathered to take up this job, and they were skewed into pieces around downtown Lanshiang. Take Chris' place. Replace him. Be better than him, and Piers failed on all accounts. He couldn't get Chris back the way he was supposed to be. His squad was dead. The responsibility he'd have to take up if they made it out alive would be nigh unbearable, and then he gets infected.
He gets infected and suddenly the decision is so easy. To let go. To hope for the best. To be the one left behind when he was supposed to be the one moving towards the future. Another glimpse of the Chris that Piers knew is seen, a more confident glimpse wherein Chris does everything he can to try and save him. And Piers smiles when Chris fails. When he saves Chris. When he seems to finally do one thing right after things never seemed to stop falling apart.
It's the last thing Chris sees. That smile and the ever encroaching weight of immeasurable responsibility that'll grasp him tight as soon as he breaks the surface. The weight Piers couldn't take from him, and maybe never wanted in the first place.

It's still one of my favorite scenes from RE6, despite everything the way Leon defends Ada only indicates that he has feelings for her even though many within the RE fandom say otherwise. It doesn't get discussed much with this scene, but Leon absolutely was breaking the law here. He stopped Chris from murdering Carla unjustly (which also would've been illegal), but he was still helping Ada evade the bsaa. That's aiding and abetting. Leon risked jail time for Ada!
HE IS SO IN LOVE WITH HER. 😌
Also Chris got the hint that Leon had feelings for Ada, thats why he hesitated to tell Leon,that she was ,,dead".
https://x.com/adasmeowmeow/status/1643325453313376256?s=19
100%
THIS IS WHY WHEN PEOPLE THINK THAT LEON IS 100% MORALLY CORRECT ALL THE TIME, I'M LIKE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND LEON AT HIS CORE. he is a conflicted character.
sure he wants to do the morally good thing, but as matt mercer says, his one personal need is ada wong. it's this confusing mess that he can't ever figure out but that's the whole appeal!
to claim that leon's 100% morally good all the time is INSANE. not understanding the corrupt manner of police and the government is ALSO CRAZY.
okay sorry i was just so tired of people not understanding nuance lmao
he repeatedly lets things go, even at the end when helena is thinking she's going to be arrested, he still lets her go
leon letting ada go makes me GO NUTS
leon jumping BUILDINGS to save ada makes me FERAL

It's probably hopeful thinking on my part, but I do wish that RE 5 and 6 could get remakes. While the stories were great, the games were often disliked because, gameplay wise, they were huge departures from what Resident Evil once was, focusing more on action rather than horror. Some blame RE4 for the change, as it does have more action in it.
However, with the success of the RE4 remake, I can see the potential for 5 and 6. Definitely get rid of the point system, cuz I feel it dampened the experience.
I've played a small bit of RE5, but I have played most of RE6 and one of things I didn't like about 6 is the lack of document collecting. I know that its a weird complaint, but its what I like about games like this that if you wanna get the full picture of what the fuck is going on, you've gotta find these documents/letters/notes/whatever. I hated that you've gotta find those emblems and waste ammo for some lore.
Okay, sure there is potential with RE 5. What about RE 6, as it was designed for co-op and had four different perspectives/campaigns?
Easy. While there are four different perspectives, their stories are connected. So, have the campaigns come together in pairs, one pair being the main game and the other being a DLC.
And, by pairs, I mean:
One of the two campaigns takes up most of the story with a secondary story following the second campaign. My mind went to Revelations 1 and 2 with this idea. In 1, you mostly follow Jill and Parker with a bit of Chris and Jessica (plus those other dudes, can't remember their names, but I loved them). In 2, you mostly follow Claire and Moira with a bit of Barry and Natalia.
As for which campaign to pair off, I've initially thought Leon/Jake for the main game, as Leon's campaign had more plot importance to the whole game and Jake's importance to the story as the son of Albert Wesker (plus having Sherry there is pretty darn cool and new characters outside of Leon, Chris, and Ada!). And, if memory serves right, Derek Simmons is their common enemy. Carla does make an appearance, but her role is more prominent with Chris and Ada, the pair I think could be the DLC.
Obviously, changes are gonna have to be made and I'd be all for it if it means making 5 and 6 fucking terrifying as the RE games they are supposed to be.
They are good action games, but not great Resident Evil games.
If you guys have a different idea, feel free to share!!!

so idk if you answered this before but if they ever remake 6, what would u like to see changed, reconstructed, improved and all that for both story and gameplay and characters?
I'm pretty sure that re6 is mostly loved by aleons and some other folk that enjoy the game for what it is but majorly it sucks imo and i also hope that Ampo directs it, if he can stomach that game lol
well the top reason why no one at capcom wants to take on the project is because RE6 is so interconnected that you can't just change one or two things here and there, because anything you change will affect the entire rest of the game.
and as i think about it, i realize that i'm running into that problem, too.
one of RE6's problems is one of identity. each campaign is supposed to have a distinct style (chris's is a shooter, leon's is more classic RE, and sherry's is a brawler), but it doesn't do that very well because every campaign was built off of the same general gameplay framework. and it was built that way because because the campaigns overlap, so you can't change things like having enemy behavior be unique to each campaign, because then you'd run into a problem where only half of the team in the overlapping sections is viable. and you can't just take out the overlapping sections, because it fundamentally alters the conceit of the game. the core of RE6's gameplay is great, but it's shit in execution, and i don't know how to fix that.
and the story's an even bigger mess. presumably, you'd want RE6make to be a direct sequel to RE4make the way that RE4make was a direct sequel to RE2make. but you would have to radically alter the narrative to do that, because RE6's story doesn't work with the new dynamic between leon and ada. there's no reason for remake leon to be so blindly trusting of remake ada, and without that, chris will just fucking kill her ass and call it a day. so what do you do? do you remove chris's beef with ada? well, you can't, because then the carla subplot breaks down. do you key leon in on the story with carla early? well, hirabayashi has already said that he's not going to fuck up the dynamic of ada always being more in the know than leon is, so you can't do that.
so what do you do?
i don't have the answers. i don't honestly know.
i've said in the past that RE6make should beef up the story between leon and sherry and turn leon's beef with simmons into a question of fatherhood, but like. that doesn't fix the carla problem. if anything, it makes it worse.
so i don't know. i really don't know.
as happy as i am that the remakes retconned aeon, it does kind of write them into a corner with RE6make. RE6 won't work with remake leon and remake ada not trusting or even really liking each other. so you either just make RE6make incongruous with the developments in RE4make -- which i don't think hirabayashi is willing to do -- or you make radical changes to the story and shift carla solely into ada's campaign and make leon and chris fight about jake or something.
i dunno, man.

A major difference between RE6 and our TTRPG so far ended up being that my Ada did not call Derek to snitch on Carla.
There was a lot more about the experiments in Tall Oaks that she found, and understanding the lengths he went through to gain access to her, or a replica of her, by any means necessary, she wasn't going to give him any more than he already took.
Even a phone call is too much. I'm sure we'll be seeing the ripples of that. Derek will still find out about China anyway, but Ada's not exposing herself.

Velvet’s Guide to Understanding the AUs I Work on (Resident Evil: Rainstorm Edition)
(Once again none of this would be possible without my lovely boyfriend @reallolattack who is also co-creator of the AU!! I’d also like to thank @tearsoftime0086 for supporting the AU these last few months as well as inspiring me to keep writing, you’ve been a major help in fleshing everything out :] )
------------------- Oh hey it’s been a while since I did one of these. I just kinda forgot to,,,, But hey Resi brainworms returned and I started writing again so here goes nothing!!
Resident Evil: Rainstorm
"Imagine if Resident Evil was written by Oingo Boingo songs and bisexual people" - @reallolattack Okay first off; change!! What have we done? What will we do? (a lot of a pain for our characters that’s for sure)
The RC outbreak is delayed by a month.
Leon and Claire team up to investigate what’s going on because Chris isn’t telling her shit
I went and revived Steve Burnside because FYUCKKK YOU
Steve works under Wesker between CV and RE5. The prototype for P30 is also developed to keep him under control
Carla is drastically changed from her canon counterpart (main thing is that she isn’t well. Ada 2. But she also plays a much bigger part)
Aeon, Burnfield, and Valenfield are all very much canon here
Sherry and Steve meet and they are FRIENDS
Basically everything about RE6 has been mutilated beyond all recognition for the sake of self indulgence
Carlos is a member of the BSAA
Highlights
These will mostly be from rps between @reallolattack and I. They do have the possibility of becoming a fic in the future, so if you happen to see these paragraphs pop up again that's why! :] ------------------- Rebecca stares at the words, weakly strung up on some makeshift poles and hanging over their desks. The typo sticks out to her like a sore thumb, but she knows she can’t mention it now, not while they’re on a time limit. Yet, she keeps staring, like her eyes will magic away the extra ‘O’.
A few of the others are busy handling other equally cheap decorations to even notice it, leaving the burden of such knowledge to fall to her.
Did this happen at her welcoming party? Did she get a typo? Is this a running gag she’s unaware of? Or is whoever got sign-duty dyslexic?
You think Captain Wesker would point it out, but no. He’s too busy arguing with Chris over wacky glasses. Jill’s got cake duty. And Barry’s probably acknowledged its existence for all of five seconds before choosing to ignore it. Richard hasn’t even bothered to glance at it.
She takes a deep breath. He won’t notice, surely. She has to stop overthinking typos or simple mistakes before she ends up worrying more about being embarrassed than investigating a grisly murder. - Written by me. ------------------- They were mostly for minor injuries anyway, she hasn’t been bitten or scratched by these things, yet, only sliced by glass and broken metal, she’s more likely to get tetanus than infected.
Or so she hopes, really.
It’s one of those things constantly gnawing at her mind, always aware of her symptoms, always aware of any sign that she might be turning. She hates it, the around-the-clock paranoia, the small moments of panic when she thinks she’s developing symptoms.
Ever since Marvin, she.. she can’t begin to imagine what it’d be like once she actually gets infected. - Written by me. ------------------- Steve tests the shoulder as he shakes his head, which is also aching. Just his damn luck. The plane crash really did a number on them, and if the cold doesn’t kill them - internal bleeding just might.
Okay, best to avoid thinking about that. They’re not going to die here. They’ve got this far, right? Or well, Claire certainly won't perish here. With a wound like this, he’s already a liability. Honestly, it’d be better if she left him here, might increase her odds.
Damn, did he hit his head that hard? - Written by me. ------------------- He doesn't let himself entertain the thought of becoming one of… them. As far as he knows, he's the only cop left in the city. It wouldn't be a good look for the R.P.D. if all of their workforce died in the one situation they couldn't protect people from, right?
Well, except S.T.A.R.S., maybe. They would've owned the apocalypse.
Especially Wesker. God, he's cool. - Written by @reallolattack ------------------- He sits down with a sarcastic grin.
"Nope. Intentionally avoided it. I walked."
And he walked with tank controls!
"Needed to get the cardio in, anyway. I've been hunched over a desk for so long, I forgot what good posture was. Which- thank you for getting me out of the White House."
Which is a sentence that no-one on Earth has ever said before. Claire Redfield is just that strong.
He uses this opportunity to straighten out his back against the chair, keeping his posture in line. You just straightened out yours.
I know what you are. - Written by @reallolattack ------------------- Yeah, he was expecting something vague. Nothing affirmative, no dates, just- "once in a while". How long exactly is a while? Is he really okay with the bait of something stable, if it even is, hanging in front of him for god knows how--
… she told him not to think too hard.
It's something. It's… something. Hope. Tangible, material hope. The most he's had in- fuck. Ada's faint pulse against his chest made his own heart feel like it's finally beating again. She is his oasis.
"My window's always open."
Except when it's locked. But hey, she has a knack for these things. Maybe she has one of those Hollywood laser glass-cutters? She's used to destroying government property by now. Hell, his couch is probably next.
"So…" His teeth latch onto the inside of his bottom lip for a moment. "… how long are you staying?" - Written by @reallolattack -------------------
Stories set in Rainstorm
Every fic I post to AO3 set in this AU will be linked here!!
~~~~
Early Morning Cuddles
Snack Chat
Invasion of Darkness
As per usual; questions are welcome!
This AU has so much content sitting behind the scenes that things may get confusing quick, but I’m always willing to clear things up if needed!
Ada and Carla find each other and start fighting, Leon appears, but he's not sure who the Real Ada Wong is, so Ada has to give him a signal only them would know so he won't shoot her by mistake (maybe is a word that reminds him of something they did). ❤️💙
" the RE6 FILES which are CANON and written by people from CAPCOM flat out states that THERE'S NO LOVE BETWEEN THEM and that ADA only USES LEON so she can benefit from his good will."
Thats true?
Anon at this point, I'm not sure where you're getting your canon info. 🤣 Coz really, Helena's "She's more than just a friend" dialogue + Leon and Ada's actions in re6 speak otherwise. If anything, re6 IS the AEON game imho. It's been a while, but I can honestly name a few instances off the top of my head:
Leon
-Thinking it's Ada, Leon protecting Carla Radames from Chris.
Tumblr media
-Leon shielding Ada from Simmons' attacks with his own body. We know he's self sacrificial and all, but using your own body to ensure another's welfare? That takes the cake.
Tumblr media
Ada
-Saving Sherry and by extension, Jake. This one resonated with me so much because why would she waste her time on these two? If, as you say, Ada was still a manipulative b*tch at this time in canon, what would she gain from helping them out? Then I remember...Sherry's important to Leon. That's why.
-Literally being Helena and Leon's guardian angel the entire time. The helicopter? The rocket launcher? The chip?
Tumblr media
You can find all these scenes on Youtube, if you don't believe me. Lol
And this will be the last ask that I will entertain regarding other Leon ships vs. AEON. DO talk to me about why you love the ship. Let's steer clear from exchanging passive-aggressive rebuttals. Please.
"Take this."
It's a stick of gum, ginger and mint. It's a nice sharp taste and has a distinct palette and nausea cleansing property. It's definitely hand cut and pressed.
Tumblr media
she's suspicious at first, glancing past strands of hair now loosened & wavy with age, weary, suspicious eyes starring back into her own. every day something else seems to fall from her grasp, a grain of sand slipping through her fingers, out of her control. whatever intricate webs she used to weave, carla has taken as her own, & when her doppelgänger walks past ada feels the wound of losing her grip become fresh.
every scab bleeds anew, & though her first instinct is to decline even something as innocuous as gum, there is a contract at play. an unspoken agreement that ada is never to be hurt, not after making carla's daughter her own. she may be pranked, humiliated, but her reputation within the guild is on crowley's tab & she's long since acclimatized to playing someone else's game. she reaches for the packet, unwrapping it expecting a light shock or another addition to the chrysalid family, instead she find things are as advertised. ada raises a single eyebrow, but she doesn't protest, throwing the stick into her mouth & chewing cautiously.
it's a familiar taste, a familiar sensation, a sense of trying & failing repeatedly to break a habit, & it makes her laugh. for how blunt carla is beneath the borrowed flair, perhaps she's stolen ada's sense of humor too.
Tumblr media
RE6 was a shitshow, but I enjoyed Ada's route, and I'm only now realizing at almost 5AM what that means for her going into RE9.
Ada Wong is dead.
For those who don't know because they've only seen/played the remakes, Ada Wong was never this woman's real name. It was an alias she put on as early as the 1998 Raccoon City assignment/incident. We see in an end game panel of the original RE3 an image of her standing in front of a mirror hugging herself saying the woman she used to be is gone now and that she died in Raccoon City.
I use this panel for my interpretation of her that she decided going forward to wear the persona she crafted as Ada Wong like a coat. It's her shield against the world and it's horrors as she helps perpetuate them by continuing her mercenary and spywork underneath the alias.
Ada Wong is untouchable. She doesn't get attached. She plays things fast and loose, and people are only allowed as close as she wants them to be which is not very. You only ever hear about Ada Wong. You only get this surface level understanding of who she is because that's all the alias is. A coat. You see how red the fabric is, but you don't know the year it's made, the fabric it's made of, or how well it keeps out the cold. All you can see is the style and color and nothing else. Not even a dip into it's pockets.
Ada Wong wasn't in Degeneration to see the harm caused by the G-Virus. She wasn't in RE5 to deal with the plaga she helped get out. In fact, the first time we see her deal with the consequence of that action is 5 years later in Damnation where her interaction with the bioweapons is still extremely minimal. The second time we see her deal with these consequences is the aftermath of Simmons getting a little too attached to who Ada Wong is supposed to be in RE6.
Carla keeps saying she's Ada Wong, and she's right. Ada Wong is mysterious and untouchable. She doesn't get attached. She plays things fast and loose, and people are only allowed as close as she wants them to be which Simmons adjusted for his own personal desires. Most importantly, Ada Wong kills indiscriminately with her actions to achieve her goals. We see how she keeps letting these viruses get into the hands of the worst people for a paycheck. Chris' team being killed by Carla is the close up. It's taking the mask off. It's removing the distance the audience gives Ada when she finishes these jobs and putting us where we should be. Angry. Confused. Horrified.
And it worked because everyone was pissed and calling it character assassination, but it wasn't. People just weren't prepared to see it happen to Chris Redfield, but the truth was Chris' team members were just people like all the other victims of bioweapons our Ada helped get out there. They weren't an exception.
Carla is Ada Wong, and our Ada has to face the reflection of the mask she's been wearing like a second skin for over a decade. I've commented in an earlier post that I thought it was strange to rope our Ada into this sort of vigilante role where she saves Sherry and looks out for others a tiny bit while moving forward in the story. However, it's not strange. Her whole route is probably the closest glimpse we see into who she really is separated from Leon. It's familiar, but different because we're still not getting answers, but we're seeing how she acts independently when fighting for herself. And at the end of it all Ada Wong dies.
Carla is shot and falls from that deadly height wherein it's reported to everyone that Ada Wong is dead. When Carla mutates inside that boat with mockery and sureness sprouting from her loud mouth about who Ada Wong is, our Ada kills her. She destroys the mask that's become so ugly and horrific from all these years of turning a blind eye to her own actions and to herself.
She kills Simmons, the person who made the mirror, and she destroys the vestiges of whatever it is Carla made in that lab while wearing the face and persona of Ada Wong. This is our Ada being forced to clean up the mess she made even if it wasn't her pulling all the strings, because it was a facet of her. An idea of her. Her idea of her that she crafted back in fucking 1998 and could never separate herself from. Until now. And it's angry and cathartic and left to blaze into ash until she's finally able to step away from it all.
This doesn't erase anything she's done. It never will, but she doesn't have to be Ada Wong anymore because Ada Wong Is Dead.
I just desperately need her in RE9. I need someone to call out to her. I want them to call her Ada and for her to reply "That's not my name. It never was." And because Capcom still won't separate the two, I think it'd be interesting for that tidbit to get to Leon. I want that line to hit him like a train. I want Ada's delivery to tell him, "You never knew me. You never even tried to find out."
What would you say are good criticisms the way Leon and Ada are written?
*stretches fingers*
criticism of leon's writing
this is more of an overarching reason but a lot of the resident evil stories/games are extremely poorly written (take a look at the movies. they're all the same kind of story, nothing is really achieved and nothing is of stake. everything is the same before and after the thing that happened. they're just things that are told in a chronical order. they don't necessarily affect anything and don't change anything) if you remove one of them, nothing changes in the overall story.
the lack of consistency of leon written between all iterations. we already have several "retellings" of re2, the og timeline, the remake timeline, and the cgi films are somehow all supposed to be connected but also not?
one of the main criticisms i had actually was leon's characterization in re4r. they went with a much gritty version of leon, which MAKES SENSE, but it makes it harder for this version of leon to fit with the other versions of leon. the jump between vendetta -> death island leon, which is SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME LEON, has such a jump in characterization.
SURE leon is depressed in vendetta, but we rarely get to see the transitional changes between these instances. so we rarely get to see HOW he heals. (it's ada's pussy curing his alcoholism also aeon child cause DI leon is 100% a father)
the change from re2 leon to re4 leon is probably the change that makes the most sense. it's explained, and there's REASONS to why his characterization has changed from bright eyed rookie cop to trained agent.
BUT with the re4r characterization, i have even MORE problems with it since re4 leon already had a vast change between then and then damnation -> re6 leon
but now we have no idea how re4r leon would change to ID Leon, which is also SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME LEON. HOW IS HE DIFFERENT AGAIN.
and furthermore, because of the various voice actors and lack of consistency, we have even more versions of leon that don't make it seem like it's the same person.
he's either fucking depressed or TOTALLY FINE, and it's JARRING AF to be slapped between the two.
i wish there was more consistency between the leon versions, and also just more thoughtful writing. at least with the games we have more of his "cringe one liners," but also exposition that can show how he's feeling. with the movies it seems like it's just "ZERO, YOU WANTED TO KNOW HOW MANY THERE WERE" "GONNA ADD TOUR GUIDE TO MY RESUME" AND THERE'S NO SUBSTANCE.
in writing (fanon)
leon's either written as a dom (which makes me cringe) or abusive (which makes me mad) or that he hates ada (which is just canonically untrue.) men who also just hate ada, i see as a red flag.
men who would rather ship leon with claire (a girl who DOES NOT LIKE LEON THAT WAY) as opposed to Ada who canonically cares/would do anything for leon, but is flawed, shows me that you just want the idea of a woman.
this is actually why i stopped reading leon x reader fics after re4r releasing. because leon's characterization in fics were always kind of poor, but after re4r released, his writing was just not even leon anymore. it was just a way to write your fantasies for your self inserts. (WHICH IS FINE, it's just not for me anymore)
i'd rather read leon x ada fics as they tend to have more substance than just porn
criticism of ada's writing
because of the lack of upbringing/backstory for ada, it's hard to tell where she lays morally.
the extreme changes between damnation ada -> re6 ada is pretty vast. the ending scene of her "adding more criminal charges to her name" to saving sherry's, jakes, helena's, Leon's and random civilians lives makes it weird. and then wanting to clear her name because of carla makes it odd
like YES it makes sense, but we STILL don't really know what/why ada does what she does.
i've always preferred re6 ada because we can actually play more of her campaign and have it outside of just being about leon as opposed to separate ways which is just "ada saving leon," campaign (i usually prefer game ada as opposed to movie ada but that's also because of the limitations of film as opposed to game)
re6 ada we see more of her feelings, thoughts, motivations, and it just seems to explore more of her. i just wish we had more of that.
in damnation we have a very flirty, snarky, double crossing ada, which ALSO MAKES SENSE, but i wish we had more clear motivations for her. (does she fuck over another person because she just wants to?)
ada has always been seen as morally grey, leaning towards more good towards the later of the series for her.
capcom please bring back mother, we haven't seen her since 2012. fuck you capcom, i'm in your walls
again, maybe i just prefer aeon specifically with more substance.
the people who shit on lily gao for wanting to break the stereotypes of what ada wong was written to be really shows that you never cared about ada other than the fact that she was a sexy woman.
ngl it's DISGUSTING to me that people thought that lily wanting to characterize ada as MORE THAN JUST A SEX SYMBOL SHOWS ME WHAT YOU ONLY WANTED FROM ADA.
we KNOW that ada can be kind, gentle AND STRONG. she's always been more than just sexy and devious. she's more than a stereotype.
and since re6 ada had always been a bit more of the soft side to me, i'd love to see lily take on the role of re6r ada if they do make it.
the fact that ada is supposed to be mysterious is old, and i want to know more about her already
in writing (fanon)
i've been very vocal about the character assassination and blatant mischaracterization of ada in fanfic.
if you wanna write leon x reader self inserts, DO IT. just LEAVE ADA OUT OF IT. the fact that you need to project your insecurities/flaws onto ada is just sad and pathetic.
it's lazy writing to just have reader be a perfect girl and then have ada as the foil to it all.
i don't mind leon x readers that write ada canonically. especially with leon still having feelings for ada. THOSE ARE FINE IMO
also the whole madonna whore complex is STRONG with how yall think/write about ada.
ada has ALWAYS cared about leon, she's also just more willing to hurt his feelings than letting him get physically hurt. she'd do anything to keep him safe, even if she can't keep herself safe in his heart.
the people who write that ada ALWAYS uses/manipulates Leon and then gets him killed, just don't know how to write imo. it's LAZY writing.
anyways. i hate how people write ada in leon x readers, and that's the main reason why i stopped reading them
tl;dr the writing of resident evil has always been kind of poor/repetitive and also inconsistent. the writing of leon and ada (in fics) are mischaracterized so much, i stopped reading a lot of them (not including au's. au's can be goofy af, that's fine.)
"Sure."
Of course, in the way that people always said when they weren't sharing enough of the situation. The little word sounded like a smile at the end of a long warp of spider silk. Whales, spiders, butterflies... the analogies were pretty tiresome as to what the creature was orbiting Ada Wong.
There was such a stark difference in their appearances now that it didn't bother anything at all to look, and stare. So Carla stared as she passed by, collecting a canister of something to slap into a nearby machine.
Tumblr media
"It's so you don't get sick."
It's a mitigated worry. Her values were under exceptional control with no want for a solution to the plague.
"She was used to cigars-" a beat. She turned her head this way and that slowly, inhaling in the long pause and sighing a few times, "--you're not succumbing to carcinogenic damage yet."
She didn't smell sick.
Note
come to think of it, was Chris’ campaign the only thing referenced in post-RE6 content (Death Island specifically)? Like no mention of Jake, Helena, Sherry… hell, even Ada’s compact mirror (that some said to be important to Leon lul) at all? I think Carla was mentioned in a manga though.
Also, not sure if you’ll have an idea for this, so it’s ok to ignore this question: if Sherry didn’t become an agent like you mentioned in your previous post, what do you think she’d be doing, and how would she connect to Leon’s story? I think it would be interesting to see a Leon, Sherry and Claire story... but that’s close to impossible I guess.
piers is also in the rev2 files. there's an email from him to claire.
there's also a file in rev2 about a rumor that sherry's protective government custody will be ending soon, but it has no details about when or why.
now, to be clear, i don't think that they'll completely throw out RE6. it would be really cool if they did, but i don't think they will. i think they might just treat it like they treated DMC2 -- because that's what they did in vendetta. vendetta acted like RE6 never happened. we'll probably see something like that.
