I think the one thing I hate IMMENSELY about being more involved in Persona stuff is just the mere fact that everyone is really really really okay with just. Adult x minor pairs. For some reason. In other fanbases it's so much more adamantly condemned, like if you were to do this in any other fanbase people would be hating on you immediately, but then you go into Persona and it's just.

BOOM KAWAKAMI X REN. TAKEMI X REN. TAKAYA X ANYONE (Genuinely think the only character slightly implied to be about his age IS Jin, at maximum he's a year younger than him. Correct me if I'm wrong though), ADACHI AND YU, ETC and it's SO SO NORMALIZED. People even argue for the pairings! The amount of times I've seen people argue for Kawakami not being predatory is actually crazy. It doesn't matter if she doesn't officially date him until he's "legal", that's literally a main grooming tactic to just sit and wait for the day someone turns 18 or graduates from the class YOU'RE teaching, or if she's not happy about feeling that way, that's EVEN MORE REASON to go "No" and adamantly refuse any advancements, maybe quit teaching teens when you openly get FEELINGS for one, go to therapy?! Is she on the same level as Kamoshida? No. But do I think she should teach a bunch of sixteen year olds if shes that willing to go "Well, maybe".. No! Absolutely not! I've even seen people try to make arguments for Kotone and Ken, too?!? I feel the exact same way for Toriumi. Openly lusting over a sixteen year old is disgusting, and yet..

I totally get that's just what happens with games with these types of tropes. You'll attract the crowd that's too into it. But it's just so mind-boggling when P5/P5R even makes it a really obvious issue when it's men doing it to the underage girls. It just makes me want to coil into myself and just shut out everything and anything Persona fandom related.

the origin of chie's galactic punt (and other nonsense)

in an old, old, ancient dev q+a from a feature on their website called "atlus express", hashino answered some questions that users had submitted.

in japanese, the party's follow-up attacks don't have unique names like they do in english. e.g. chie's galactic punt is just called "chie's follow up attack" in japanese. but when chie uses it, her jp va goes, "doooon!", meaning like, "boom".

a fan asked why chie is the only one who has an insta-kill move while the others can only crit? and hashino replied that someone on the battle team saw chie's design, and thought that chie looked the most likely to go boom on something. and since she doesn't use a bladed weapon, the thought process went, well what if she just kicked something as hard as possible?

initial personas

personas were selected from japanese myth and culture, based on each character's story. for example, yukiko's is konohana sakuya, who falls in love with a prince.

(if you've never read soejima's design works comments about the gang's personas, he explains a lot of his design thought process as well. like yosuke would hear the name jiraiya and think rogue with a heart of gold -> hero (what his shadow dunks him over) -> heroes have red scarf.)

where does nanako grocery shop?

since junes is so far away, she probably usually shops in the central shopping district. she probably always gets freebies/deals/etc a lot.

how far is inaba from the protag's home city?

the protagonist changes trains a bunch and the fare seems kinda high. when hashino and the team researched for inaba's setting, they went to a place around 2 hrs by train from tokyo, which he considers close. (this is referring to the city of fuefuki.) however, he believes the inaba in the story must be much further than just a 2hr train ride.

(i found this answer interesting because there are definitely people who say that "fuefuki is inaba". pls these games take place in "magicalfictionalcity, japan")

about the protagonist's shadow / true self / other side

the protagonist is more or less the player, and though the protagonist doesn't reveal his other side during the game, it could be said that the personality of the player behind the controller *is* his other side. through the various options the player makes in-game, perhaps the player might have shown their true self to the game world?

(hell fucking yeah i showed my true self when i protected adachi and burned the letter.)

I will say though, I feel like he's a bit different in his japanese dub in that he seems to be actively more...patronizing (which I LOVE) ? Spoiler alert but in this scene:

the second line is the only line they sorta changed here, but in Japanese he actually says something to the effect of "You're already gonna have your sleepy time*?" instead of "You're gonna let this bitch take you down like this?" *he says "おねんね” which is a really silly way of saying 'sleep' that you would only say to a small child basically

I know that they mean the same thing and its still the same shit-eating attitude in different fonts but hhrughhhhhgh.......i love how both the eng and jap VA's had their own take on it though!! I think in japanese he's sounds more comically exaggerated and therefore his switchup is more dramatic and chilling; but that doesn't mean in English it's less shocking when the reveal comes, if not more sinister for how he really hid in plain sight...in conclusion adachi is lewd incarnate thank you for coming to my ted talk

saw ur post abt the mentally unwell killer suspects in p4 and. i agree sm. specifically namatame like that’s my GOAT. i feel he already had some sort of mental issues beforehand. then with the whole scandal/affair with his wife made it worse then BOOM magical powers. literally thinking about the scene where in the IT confronts him at the hospital he’s literally on the floor violently shaking and holding his head . he also seems to be semi verbal too but that could be my autistic ass reading too much into it

you are so fucking right anon. i admittedly don't have as many thoughts about namatame cuz i like. only just got to that stuff where as it's been a week or so at this point since i finished mitsuo's dungeon. but he's definitely at least mostly just mentally unstable. though i'm not sure how much of that was present beforehand and how much of it was just him going kind of insane after developing a messiah complex (as adachi directly words it). i don't think it fully justifies his actions (esp the cheating, i get he was in a loveless marriage more or less but. still not great) but i think he mostly just needs therapy, same with mitsuo (though i mean. mitsuo did actually kill someone. so-).

‘Drowning in the faded snow…’ is a quote which, frankly, means nothing, yet it was the catalyst for two young girls to string up formerly maimed guitars and surmise on just how much more thinking it would take to begin a band, just the two of them and their practically lifeless guitars? It would go nowhere. The older of the pair, frontwoman Matsuoka Yukiko (aptly named ‘snow child’) had several lyrics scribbled in her diary which were aided along with her keyboard and falling apart guitar, a thing she was so attached to she barely batted an eye at it despite the tunes beginning to dry up. However, she did have a specific phrase tattooed across her waist, it was fate apparently.

The second half of this pair, little Iguchi Rie was hesitant, as she always seems to be, hesitance clouding the beginning, the treacherous halfway point, and the booming end, yet it seems she could not resist the pull her childhood friend (now enemy seemingly) sported in that very moment. They were sixteen, but they did not long for fame, they longed to create art those could cherish, digging their endless thumbs into woven music they could not help but admire.

So it began, sifting through the music club, then over to sleepovers, cringy names which included Latin messaging which then eventually evolved into the titular 色褪せた雪—Iroaseta Yuki, Faded Snow, I can imagine the name initially earned laughs before it became their trademark, back when all of it was merely for fun.

Two guitarists (one sometimes on vocals), two drummers, and one vocalist, who, though she could play a bundle of instruments herself, was quoted to ‘have a voice for all’ made up the collection. It was a scant five; Matsuoka Yukiko, Iguchi Rie, Ejima Saori, Hirao Hatsune, and Ueto Sayaka, a clobbered together group of teenagers who tossed lyrics around in rooms with rickety lights, unknowing of what the future would bring despite their juvenile affairs.

The first two years brought little, a few perk ups and praises given by school teachers, some classmates deeming all of it ‘cool as shit’, but there wasn’t much of a true blowup, a couple of radio circulations there. They only ever had enough resources to release singles, 1998 saw the release of ‘Darline’ and in 1999 they released ‘Love as Asteroids’, the two singles clearly aren’t their best works considering what would quickly follow, but are still ample displays of just what they could do with what they had.

So then comes 2000, the group are in a bit of a split decision, something that always happens when all five of them are in the studio together, screaming matches ensuing over hours and hours of recording, Saori constantly having to act as peacekeeper in order to prevent any physical fights from forming. Eventually, the over fifty hours of studio quarreling ended up in their favor, because it birthed ‘Crime and Punishment’, released on leap day, their most famous single to date, which then catapulted them into fame they didn’t expect.

But how did that happen? It comes down to one woman: Adachi Rina, manager mom, the woman who can be credited for the groups rise in fame, and for their inevitable downfall. She’s got her perks, possibly lives a little too much in the past, but at least she treated the girls as human beings whilst they were under her care. Rina sensed potential, so she had ‘Crime and Punishment’ looping on radios until it got the attention of a small little label called Soundrays. Before the group knew it, they were national superstars.

Sort of.. the months following were riddled with clearly misogynistic remarks and comments regarding them as ‘one hit wonders’, some journalists even urging Rina to give up on the five, but in a move which is probably one of the only good things she’s done in her managing career, she did not.

So when the group, record label contract signed, studio screaming heightened to about 200% higher, they entered 2001 with their debut studio album ‘Caution! Snow Ahead!’. Aptly headlined by the single ‘Caution!’, it took the whole one hit wonder mantra, flipped it on its head, spat on it, then stomped it over with an irregularly huge shoe. With the members having most of the albums credits tied to their name, there was little argument, they weren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Later that year they won the Best New Artist and Record of The Year Award, described by an anonymous journalist as ‘the kind of group that uses typically bizarre ideas that they blend together beautifully’.

So what happened? What was the true cause of their downfall? On the 24th anniversary of Crime and Punishments release, the true reason behind their imminent split is still debated, heck, people are continuing to place bets on it, and it is clearly the result of the whole ‘creative differences’ reason being just too much of an easy out by their label.

And of course, the now feud between the two creators of the very band doesn’t ease suspicion either. Considering the things the members whisper, they definitely aren’t beating any allegations (they say the lover’s quarrel thing is old, it seems the rest of the band think so too), but what do I know about anything? I’m a mere internet dweller reporting on it two decades later. If Yukiko and Rie really did bring their years worth of work to an end all because of a bad breakup, all to just be the members who disliked each other the most following the split, then I would say its simply a beautiful display of true pettiness.

So what do you think, then? What really did cause the end of a group that seemed so unbreakable? So close that not a singular album could be forced out of the five? Was it actually because of aforementioned creative differences? Or was it an ever growing rift between two members with an over complicated relationship that killed it all? Was the groups said creator really as overbearing as some members enjoy implying? Well.. I can’t say anything concrete, but what I can reiterate is something interesting I recall Hatsune saying during a 2009 interview:

“Well I guess we aren’t really conventional— not in the way people expect for friends to be, I don’t enjoy our fights, nobody enjoys fights, but I feel tensions would be worse if such stress wasn’t lifted from our shoulders every time we argue over musical concepts in the studio. If we ever did break up, tomorrow or even next week, I really don’t know what would do it, it feels we’ve all seen each other’s worst sides already”.

Perhaps she was a fortune teller, much too knowing of their upcoming fate. Happy twenty four years to crime and punishment, rest in peace Faded Snow, you were too young when you went.

Okay so basically in OTO, Reon adopts Quint and Zero and later builds Pei based off Wily’s blueprints for what would’ve been Piano. Because she had such a horrible and abusive family in the past, Reon is fairly protective and caring to anyone she deems “weaker” than her. Mix that with a near apocalypse where a group of mostly teenage and kid robots need a leader and boom, you get the new Adachi family.

To everyone else, they seem like a group of robotic killers (Zero especially) but to Reon? They’re all her babies, her precious babies. She honestly can’t pick a favorite, and showers them in bear hugs and gifts equally (maybe even too much) because she’s still figuring out how to be a person, let alone a mother.

Yosuke - Healing Wind - can summon winds which both heal those who get swept up in them or can damage them if they get harsh enough to toss people in the air

Chie - Devil Kick - Her kicks are extremely powerful (her muscles tend to harden when she uses her magic so the enemies get like 10x damage because of how strong she is usually and then adding that on with it)

Yukiko - Blossom Boom - Her magic allows her to create small or large bloom type bombs that will burst into flames after hitting the ground (like a five second chance to get away before they explode and sometimes the loose petals will set on fire)

Kanji - Poison Finger - yeah his fingers can let out a small or large amount of poison depending on his energy levels. (High energy means your more likely to be okay, low energy means you’re probably going to die)

Naoto - Revealed - Naoto’s magic allows him to see through magic disguises or just any disguise and force the magic user to come to light (also his magic just gives him a keen eye)

Rise - Siren’s Guide - Rise’s voice can guide those she doesn’t want to hurt to safety and those she must hurt into a tiring trap!

Teddie - Dress up - the opposite of Naoto’s teddie’s magic allows them to cast disguises and change someone’s feature depending on a situation (nonbinary teddie anyone?!)

So they end up being one of the main teams from the guild to investigate the murder alongside Ryotaro

Some have their suspicions it’s the newest mage of the guild Adachi

Tohru’s magic is called - Jester - Allows him to create copies of himself and use them to distract others with all sorts of tricks (harmful tricks)

and so they start to follow after him and his history and it all sort of comes to that

Yu, Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko have known each other a lot longer in this, since Yu traveled to Iniari quite frequently to visit his uncle

So they’re like a group of their own until the investigation team gets formed

Rise and Naoto are good friends already since they know each other from magnolia (rise technically was part of the blue pegasus guild before)

Kanji managed to get out of a dark guild before it was to late thanks to Ryotaro and he’s been with the silver screen guild ever since

Yu and his aunt Chisato have a very strong bond and it’s filled with bad jokes and stoicism (same for yu and ryotaro) she also teaches him how to play the flute, Nanako is learning how to play piano like her mum

Nanako doesn’t have her magic yet, but it’s more likely to come in a moment of extreme panic or stress for her (like how it did for her parents)

She’s good friends with the phantom warrior’s guild Akane!

Ryotaro and Chisato actually had trouble conceiving Nanako (they were about to give up on having a child all together)

Ryotaro’s sister, Yu’s mother , Himiko was actually going to try persuade them to try once more (she saw how sad they were) until she found out about Nanako

So yeah Nanako was sort of a miracle baby!

it seems due to the boom in both of their careers, a lot of ppl have been making art of Adachi Rei and Kasane Teto together as a pair (platonic or otherwise). I've sort of come to like and desire to see them together. I feel like this is technically cheating due to The Inherent Nature of vocal synth ship stuff so like uhhhhhhhhhh. I'm slowly getting Sachika and Lakia pilled.

K-What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

favorite of all time is hard (mainly because. im so forgetful........) A recent one I keep thinking about is one mister touma kr saber. i feel like i didn't really appericate his arc on the first go round, but upon my rewatch i felt like the character just clicked with me.
