Author Summary: Every month for 10 days, Shadow goes into a form of heat; cutting off in inhuman abilities and turning him mortal. Sonic finds him injured in an alley and takes him in; holding him prisoner until he can find out why Shadow has suddenly become mortal. Over the course of the 10 day cycle, Shadow's 'mating' pheromones get stronger and stronger, and Sonic, who doesn't know about the heat, can't seem to figure out why he has the sudden urge to jump his rival.

My summary: Shadow goes into heat, gets injured, and Sonic and friends help him.

Tho I will say, I feel like social media in general kind of prevents personal comments in general. To use sonadow as an example, because sonadow is so popular, there are tons of artists that draw it. If someone is searching for sonadow, they're going to see dozens, potentially hundreds of different art posts. If someone like that finds an art piece they like even a little bit, they might reblog it just because it makes their brain feel good to see sonadow. It's instant gratification. But because there are so many different pieces immediately visible, they might not think to comment on anything unless the piece really stands out to them in some way (fully rendered/colored, a comic, funny, exciting, unique from surrounding works in some way - ex it's dark and gloomy). That probably really sucks to hear, I can't say whether the majority of people are like that, but I am ashamed to say I have been that person.

But if it makes you feel slightly better, if people are tagging the work as a fandom or a ship, that means they want some way to be able to come back to it and look at it again in the future easily. It's usually not just organization for organization's sake or for tag blocking. It's like adding it to a public gallery. At least that's how I see it

it hasn't always been like that, though. i've been posting art on the internet for over a decade, and i can confidently say that people used to be more open and willing to leave comments. there are a lot of reasons for why the internet is the way it is right now, but i don't believe we should simply accept its growing coldness and hostility as the only way to be.

losing one's passion for making art due to lack of meaningful engagement is not an uncommon sentiment among artists nowadays, and for me it is part of a much bigger problem with how fandom has become synonymous with consumerism. it obviously does not get fixed easily, just as i obviously would not urge you to reblog and comment on every single post you see out of some sense of obligation, but next time you hesitate to say something under a piece of art (of any kind) that you particularly enjoyed, think about it like this: you are helping us stay creative. yes, even by simply saying "awooga", lol

Basic(?) Summary of my Sonic AU :3

So, this is a sonadow + angst au (most of it is just Sonic suffering) and some of this is going to be vague, especially in the future because I don't want to spoil it too much ^^

Past: The events of Sonic 06 are important.

Start/Near past: A couple weeks after the Metal Virus and about 2 weeks after Surge nearly fried Sonic with her electricity abilities, small anomalies start to concern people (especially those with a fear of insects and stuff,) Tails takes one to investigate as well as a normal one, Silver shows up at Sonic's and Tails' front door (he is pissed). Eggman has been missing for quite a long time and Sonic's getting bored.

Present: Look! Another apocalyptic event!! Sonic is not excited for this, who is going to be? Especially after the whole Metal Virus thing. Knuckles finds Rouge on a patrol with a broken wing (they haven't met before), about a week after Sonic finds Shadow while exploring/looking for something (they also haven't met before). They put Shadow in a cage/prison because Sonic decided to bring Shadow in after Shadow literally attacked Sonic (Shadow's feral (he has almost no memory at all)). Cream visits Shadow every now and then, Amy discovers this, Amy supervises Cream just in case something happens. Shadow eventually gains his memory back, they let him out. Sonic's family finds their way to the Restoration HQ, speedy hog may or may not get a little embarrassed. Why is Tails the only one trying to find a cure for this. On one of Rouge's turn to scout a place for any survivors, Sonic tags along. Turns out that the infected are actually smart??? (They ambushed Sonic together.) Blah, blah, blah, Sonic finds Eggman, then after the whole apocalypse is over, these events happen in order:

Sonic Frontiers

Near future: Sonic and Shadow are doing their rivalry stuff, Sonic realises that he MIGHT have fallen for Shadow. He ignores those feelings though. Eggman is up to one of his schemes again, captures Sonic, does little experiments on Sonic because Eggman noticed something about Sonic and wanted to see what it was because wdym a sonic-speed hedgehog survived all those adventures??? Plot armour??? This reminds Sonic of the events of Sonic Forces and just kinda tries to sleep it all away (that isn't healthy dude). Obviously gets rescued. Eggman then retires because he's old af. Fast forward, Sonic is still ignoring those feelings for Shadow, he's getting older. A 'few' years forward, he then discovers something about himself that just goes against one of his beliefs. (Hint: "Every world has its end..." - Sonic)

Future: Well, at least Tails is alive for a bit longer! Oop- Tails is now gone. Doesn't cope well. Shadow does eventually fall for Sonic.

End: Sonic gets his happy ending!!! Shadow starts to feel lonely but gets used to it.

Since Shadow is the 'can't die from old age and natural illnesses', I decided to let Shadow go to rest too!! :D Damn, that's a lot of text... ;-;

I was too zoomed out while drawing this, which is why the rings are much smaller than I intended. Also, I meant for the quills to be taller. I'm on the fence about a lot of my design choices. I'll figure them out next time.

This is probably closest I'll ever get to designing a Sonadow fankid, but I'm not just adding the tag for fun; I do have a story for how this happens.

The Chaos Pearl of the Sonic universe is Solaris. Ten years after the main timeline, Eggman initiated the Solaris Project, and like in 06, it fails horribly. Solaris is split into Iblis and Mephiles.

While Mephiles escaped, Iblis was sealed within Sonic. He did it himself using Chaos Control, hoping that when he passes away, he'll take Iblis with him.

Little did Sonic know, he was pregnant with Shadow's child at the time, and he had actually sealed Iblis within them. He only realizes this after giving birth to a chaotic fire-throwing baby hedgehog.

Sonic's friends immediately jump into action to take down the Iblis Incarnate. Tails had a prototype Universe Inhibitor Ring on him, and he manages to get it around the baby's neck, reducing its power exponentially. Then, Silver comes to deliver the finishing blow, only for Sonic to rush in at the last second to protect his baby. Silver is barely able to divert his attack, and Sonic, who was greatly exhausted after giving birth, was hurt in his baby's place. Shadow quickly catches them.

Sonic pleads while holding his child close, "Don't hurt him! He's just a kid! He's my kid!"

His friends look on with guilt and concern. At that moment, a GUN ship lands, and out of it comes Abraham Tower. GUN had been covertly monitoring Sonic since the sealing-away of Iblis. Abraham demands that Sonic and Shadow hand over their child to GUN to be put in stasis as the Iblis Incarnate is too dangerous to ever be allowed amongst regular society.

As if to prove GUN right, the baby bites Sonic's hand hard enough for blood to stain his glove. The GUN soldiers present, including Abraham, all raise their weapons. Shadow immediately stands up between his family and the military, while Sonic swallows the pain and focuses on comforting his child.

"It's okay, buddy," Sonic spoke softly. "No one's gonna hurt you now."

It works; the baby stops biting and looks up at his parents, confused about what's happening around them. Shadow refuses to surrender his child to GUN, but he agrees to isolating him if only on his and Sonic's terms.

The child was named "Nezha" – based on human legends of a powerful and chaotic child-god (or maybe he could be called "Lotus" for how his quills look when upright). Due to the power of Iblis, Nezha ages faster than normal. Even with the Universe Inhibitor Ring, he looks like a young child and behaves like a teenager despite being as old as a toddler.

Nezha was raised on the Space Colony ARK by Sonic and his friends. Tails is the one running safe and ethical experiments on Nezha and his abilities; the rest are educating and entertaining him. However, duty still calls them back to Earth, and poor Nezha has to spend most of his time alone on the ARK. Sonic always assures him he'll be back to play as much as he likes, but Nezha has heard this too many times to be comforted. Nezha has also never seen Shadow since his birth. That's because Shadow is searching for Mephiles, who is said will cause the end of all time itself if met with Iblis. He hopes that by destroying or sealing away Mephiles, it would lessen Nezha's perceived threat in GUN's eyes. Alas, Mephiles was nowhere to be found, and Shadow has neglected his son for too long.

Shadow discusses with Sonic to have Nezha be moved to Angel Island where he will be trained to use his powers for good. It's still isolation; Knuckles uses the power of the Master Emerald to cast a barrier around the island. Though Nezha receives training from all his parents' friends, it is Shadow who oversees everything. He's strict too, which Nezha resents. He has no idea how much Shadow would sacrifice for him.

Nezha learns to harness Chaos Energy to make his spear and silk. A combination of Sonic's connection to rings and Iblis' power allows Nezha to make his Wind-Fire Rings. When his Universe Inhibitor Ring is adjusted, Nezha instantly becomes a teenager and is able to access the Doom Powers he inherited from Shadow.

Unbeknownst to Nezha, the day he meets the Mephiles Incarnate draws near.

Okay I'm both sad and excited at the existence of Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Sad because I would've been more interested in an expanded remake of, of example, Sonic the Fighters or Sonic R. Hell I'd be interested with a fixed up version of Shadow the Hedgehog or 2006. Odds are high this is just a "10% more levels to get away with saying new content for less effort" type of remake with more work put into graphics than anything else that would justify a $60 price tag.

Excited because hopefully the Shadow campaign is as long as the Sonic levels, adds in levels not already used from the other games, and whatever the bonus stuff is supposed to be. There's also the fact that it uses the new engine so I really hope they port in the Frontiers gameplay mechanics. Imagine if they ramped up the hubworld to something comparable to the islands. Also?

Damn.

On another note, the title keeps making me laugh. Sonadow shipping tag much?

Edit because I thought I added this before posting: $60 is a lot for a game particularly a remake. While there are people who haven't played Generations because it is now about 10-12 years old and you're potentially getting two games for one, OG has been somewhat regularly bundled and goes for sale on its own at $5. Which is why I won't be surprised if they delist OG Generations since people could get it for $5 and mod Shadow in. I mean they posted the OG Sonic games for the Sega Genesis / Megadrive collection and then in prep for Sonic Origins they delisted Sonic 1-3 and CD since those were around $5 a pop to about a buck or two (before getting into the Genesis collection when it went on sale).
