The Wildland Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act is back in the Senate. If it does not pass, federal wildland firefighters will be facing a 50% paycut here in a couple months (yeah, I said FIFTY). I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who would keep working their job if their pay got cut by fifty-percent. And right now, that cut is poised to come right at the start of the worst of fire season. I'm sure I don't need to explain why this is NOT GREAT.

okay, in light of all the Paragon Discourse™ that i've been seeing recently (mostly on tiktok), i'm gonna give it a reread.

it was one of the first (if not THE first) hannigram fics that i read, and i remember certain parts had me scratching my chin, but i ultimately just kinda skimmed those sections because, overall, i was enjoying it.

jeremy having no idea what was in that disrupt tape or that alan james was in it but deciding to try and play it anyway and risking his career and his friends’ careers in the process is so interesting to me. because that is a man who has very little tolerance for romanticism or unfounded hope, it’s part of the reason he was never on board with advance in the first place: their rosy idealism that he didn’t agree with as we see in a lot of his off-air comments. he’s a journalist, he believes in reality, in facts and getting the truth. but as time passes and government control increases and eventually public ownership is introduced, the news strays further and further from that, the reason why jeremy loved it so much, and it feels to him like he’s the only one who actually cares about the truth anymore and what the news is supposed to be. and it changes him. he becomes so desperate for hope, for something to believe in, because there just has to be something else. and so he meets with disrupt, who are dubious and who don’t tell him much, and jeremy has no idea if they’ll actually help him or what they’ll do when he finds some way of stopping their plans. if he’ll even find a way to begin with, if him doing this isn’t just plunging the country into a different kind of oppression. but at least there’s another option. he hinged his career, his entire life on that tape on blind hope alone, which must have been so difficult to do. dare to hope.
