Girl help I can’t stop calling my dogs “son” a la disappointed elderly farmer.

“Don’t put that in your mouth, son.” (Eating things they’re not supposed to)

“Come on, son, get ahold of yourself.” (Barking at another dog)

“Son, don’t do this to me.” (Pooping twice on one walk)

“What are you sneef-snorfin, son?” (Spending an excessively long time smelling one spot)

Have more of a review now on that stroller we got for Addy!

We took the dogs around the block today & took the stroller to try for part of the distance. Went halfway with Addy walking, then stopped to coax her into it. Didn't take much coaxing! She mostly was just kinda going "but.... why?"

She started out standing and uncertain, but not at all panicking or anything. I kept up giving her treats every 5 seconds or so through the top opening. By the time we reached the corner, she was sitting, using the corner & side for support! By the time we got back to our driveway, she actually laid down!!! I actually had to coax her out a bit, she was pretty pleased to be getting hand fed lots of treats just chilling in it. 😂

She seemed pretty comfortable in it as she got used to it - not getting too jolted, it felt sturdy enough that she didn't seem concerned about support.

Jack pushed it for the walk & said the stroller moves really well, turns easily, very easy to handle. He was able to lean on it some for support, which helped him out too.

Construction wise, the wheels are really nice & seem pretty tough. I think they'll do okay over grass in one of the parks. Lots of mesh for good air flow, nice big openings on front, back, and top. It's rated for up to 160lbs, Addy is 55-60lbs, but needs the extra space to lay comfortably. I climbed in it a couple times to show Emma 😂, so can confirm sturdiness on weight, I'm 150lbs.

It does have some pockets on the back, but not very big - we're going to add a bag between the pockets & stroller box for a bigger storage spot.

Main complaints so far are the pockets, & the floor of the stroller is very slick material - I'm sure it's easy to clean, but no purchase for Addy. We placed a yoga mat in for that, which seems to work well (going to probably tape it in later).

We folded it down to place in the back of my car (SUV style), it is definitely a bit wide, but it went in upside down, it was mostly the big back wheels that got in the way. Jack said those can pop off though, if needed. I picked it up to put in, not terrible on weight, just a bit bulky bc I'm small & small arm span.

So far, highly recommended for a big dog!! Really feels like it's worth the money so far, and really looking forward to taking it out to some parks this summer.

Bones Boy mentioned that his other/more regular babysitter apparently spends all her time with him watching videos on her phone, which makes me feel MUCH more confident about my modus operandi of constant engagement/imaginative play/conversation and creativity/goofing and then making a small spiked milkshake with the parents' bourbon and ice cream after the kids are in bed

My roommate's girlfriend (buzzed) and my roommate (blitzed) woke up to cats yowling in the alley last night right around the time I got home, and in a convincing display of her assertion that it's not CERTAIN we're getting a new cat soon (we are) my roommate asked if I wanted to go outside (it was midnight) and help them catch the one that seemed like maybe it was new to being outside. So I grabbed the carrier I've kept by the door in case our last project (Pete the tuxedo) came back (chewed a hole in the window screen and ran) and followed my roommate outside where her gf was lying on the ground with a tin of wet food trying to coax the cat from under the dumpster (nowhere near garbage day) and meowing (comfortingly?).

We ended up walk-chasing the cat down the street and Carolyn (roommate) actually got hands on her at one point, but the cat escaped (she didn't remember to zip the top of the carrier after she put the cat in) (this was when I realized she was drunk af and not just sleepy) so we spent another 20 minutes crawling around with phone flashlights on (still midnight) and eventually had to give up.

As we were walking back to the apartment (half a block away) I rolled a high enough perception check (permanent disadvantage due to adhd) to see that there was a man sitting nearly motionless in his SUV with all the lights off, lit only by the blue glow of his dash controls.

I said (quietly) "there's a whole-ass man who's been sitting in his car right here this entire time."

The other two (limbs a drunk and sweaty pretzel) processed this for a moment and giggled together. "oh well," said Julia (the toothpick keeping this thing together). "this is Chicago. He's seen weirder."

"oh for sure," I said, picking off leaf litter stuck to my elbow (humid). "I mean I feel like three lesbians chasing pussy at midnight is pretty normal around here anyway."

A (drunk) pause, then laughter so loud that something streaked from the bushes (cat) bolted across the road, and disappeared under a fence (welp).

January 2025: Snowy Saturday

The snow began falling late on Friday so I wasn't able to get any decent photos until Saturday morning.

When you get really good about reading dog language (not projecting human concepts of that onto dogs, but what dogs are actually communicating), it's incredible how meaningful their thoughts are. So much of what they say has the underlying theme of trust (familiar/unfamiliar) and they have so many expressions. I just get very lovey about my friendships with specific dogs. I genuinely have more dogs than people in my Meaningful Relationships category right now.

This was the least crowded block of the farmers market. We had just gotten freshly made Woofles (apple cinnamon puppy waffles) and decided to head home. You can practically hear her saying, "Those are mine. I know they are. You had me pick them out. Can I have one now?"

I'm going to keep pushing myself to video us. It's hard for me to multi-task, and it makes me horribly uncomfortable. It also worries me that I am not paying enough attention to her. A big part of my training was to use her as a grounding technique, so I get very anxious when I use my phone.

But, I want to better our heel and start to learn more tricks. Watching the videos of us will help me see things from a different angle and hopefully help me improve.

I did miscommunicate with her that we were turning right and stopping at the crosswalk. I can not get mad at her for something that's my fault. At least we didn't run into anyone or anything!
