If your vote can be used to prevent a right wing nationalist from taking office, you should use it to do that. I'm not advising you you'll like the person your vote does get elected, I'm saying you should cast a vote that prevents a right wing nationalist from taking office.

I'm not discussing a hypothetical of "if netanyahu lost the 2022 election, the genocide would still happen this exact same way," I'm discussing the reality of "300,000 opposition votes were thrown out (which also would've disproportionately impacted minorities within the country) so Netanyahu is PM again, and he's an evil nationalist piece of shit."

The one who is actually responsible for genocide is the one who currently runs the country of Israel and is insisting he won't stop the war. I know this because if he pulled out Israeli troops and decided to end the Israeli assault on Gaza tomorrow it would stop, and he wouldn't pretend to ask for US permission to do it.

Anyways if you think this explanation of how math literally has to work in elections is scolding you, I don't really care. Math doesn't only apply to some elections. Probabilities and electoral math always plays a role in any election. That's true now, just like it was true when I took a college political science class called "Voting and Elections" in 2010, taught by my (then) academic advisor.

I didn't promise anywhere this was a nice or comforting fact. I didn't say it would lead you to feel morally or ethically good about your options. I didn't say this was a system free of flaws. I didn't even say "vote for Biden!"

I said that mathematically someone will win an election, and someone will lose, and it's important to be aware of how your vote works in that process.

Something that I want people to remember is that in a democratic election, who you vote for and who you don't vote for are both meaningful. Voting for someone is also not voting for someone else.

If the vote you cast goes to someone who will not win, and has no chance of winning, then that vote just gets "taken away" from a more mainstream candidate's potential numbers. This is "dividing the voter base" or dividing the voter potential.

Effectively that usually decreases one of the mainstream candidate's chances of winning, making it easier for another opposing candidate to win. Sometimes you will vote for someone who you criticize, who you dislike, who has policies that you disagree with — because you really don't want their opponent to win.

And someone will absolutely win the election. At the end of the day, someone does have to win. Mathematically, if you choose not to vote for someone, you absolutely do have to consider whose win is now easier for them to achieve. You're not just considering who you do vote for directly, or who you directly aren't voting for.

You're weighing who is more or less likely to win if a particular candidate gains or loses a vote. You have to remember that.

i love how my writing system has changed so much over the years

when I was in middle school I alernated between this massive Google doc with 7 point Verdana font and 1% brightness (on my school computer and account, so I'm pretty sure the admin could've seen it any time they wanted) and a composition notebook that was falling apart by the end, where I wrote everything out by hand and sometimes even in cursive. I killed so many pens that way lmao

and then I transferred things over and I'm way more organized now. but the olden ways still make me laugh from time to time

Chasing Summer

But when a Grisha Jaeger becomes the new family doctor, bringing along his ill son that breathes new life into the town he desperately wants to escape, will Levi find a reason to stay?

My Opinion:

This is actually my second favorite story at the moment. I just love it so much 😍❤️ The writing style is very unique and beautiful. There are so many amazing quotes. Eren is really sick in this story and his time is slowly running out. Levi who wants to leave this town behind as soon as he graduates slowly falls in love with Eren. It’s really sweet how they fall in love with each other and they share so many special moments together. They are just perfect for each other 🥺❤️ Due to Eren’s sickness there is also some heavy angst in this story and I couldn’t stop crying at the last chapters but believe it or not, this story actually has a happy ending! I can definitely recommend this beautiful story to you. I’m sure you’re going to love it and won’t regret reading it. This is definitely a story that I will still think about in a few years because it is really special to me.

It is no secret that I am an avid reader. I did not read the majority of the books assigned to me in school... but I have read most of them now. I was dead broke in my 20s and for most of my 30s. My public library card was my salvation. It was my choice to revisit things I had refused in my youth. I rediscovered my abiding love for Mary Shelley and Edgar Alern Poe. And also my hatred for Hawthorne and Hemingway.

Anyway unpopular opinion probably but the school system (and general book snobbery) fucks up by trying to force kids to read "classics" before they have the mental and emotional development to appreciate them.

This post is me telling you to consider revisiting that classic book you read in the 7th grade that you hated because the ability to understand a lot of literature gets unlocked later, for reasons a lot to do with emotional maturity

burner house opinions please agree or disagree: mike is the hufflepuffest hufflepuff to ever huff a puff. texas is so gryffindor he poops baby lions. julie is a slytherin and hates it but she is better at it then anyone else. chuck and dutch are very different ravenclaws and have very different answers to the common room riddles. HOUSE SOLIDARITY TEAM.

HHHHHH OKAY might as well answer this one right after the other one.  This one is rough because I can usually find a reason any given character would be in at least three of the four houses???? Uh....but let’s see, lemme think about it.

......Well I don’t want to repeat myself from my previous post, but Texas is pretty easy.  He would INSIST on being Gryffindor.  He would throw the biggest shitfit if he WASN’T a Gryffindor.  He’d inevitably end up in Gryffindor.  As for the others...

Mike could be Hufflepuff for sure, but he’d also make a pretty damn solid Gryffindor.  Boldness, courage, charging in without thinking to help people, he does definitely tick the boxes.  I’d actually lean slightly more toward Gryffindor?  He’s got the loyal, kind, dedicated part down, but  I mean...”daring, nerve and chivalry” is pretty solidly Mike too.  His defining trait is thoughtless bravery and a reckless desire to do good, and that reads to me as a Gryffindor.

Julie would make a very solid Slytherin, I gotta agree with you on that one.  Determined, ambitious, cautious but also daring when it counts...and a tendency to make friends and do whatever the hell she needs to to keep herself and her friends on top.  *bangs gavel* SOLD.

Alternate left field theory though: Julie “this isn’t fair, i need to fix it” Kane, Julie “I’d do the right thing even if it means hurting myself and working against my father” Kane, goes to hogwarts and gets sorted into fukkin Hufflepuff????!?!  Spends the entire story lying to her dad and saying she got into Slytherin. The strangest Hufflepuff/Slytherin personality combo.

Chuck.....hhhhh, okay, he’s the weird one for me.  Ravenclaw is probably where he would be happiest, for sure.  If I was writing this as a story though, I would sort Mike into Gryffindor and I would very much consider that tiny, 11-year-old Chuck, wanting desperately to be brave, would follow Mike into Gryffindor as well.  That would fit nicely with his plotline about not feeling brave enough to be in the Burners, and how the real nature of his courage is being terrified but going FUCK IT I’M RIDE OR DIE! and plunging in headfirst anyway.  

..............that previous sentence is also why a distant third possibility is Chuck the long-suffering Hufflepuff, loyal to his friends to the detriment of his own mental health, brave because he’s gotta help, not for bravery’s sake.

I’m getting distracted.

Dutch’s literal entire dish is being a free-thinker and doing shit his own way, so yeaaahhhhh, that’s Raveclaw pretty well pegged.  I would love to see Dutch making spells up and doing wild shit and none of the teachers knowing what to do with him, it would be great.

 It’s probably not a coincidence that my fav. character is the one I’m most like “ehhh, WELL.........” on, but hey, you gotta follow ur heart, right.

Alernate version: they all go to some kind of American magic school in the middle of Detroit.  Hogwarts houses are some kind of weird elitist British thing and/or OUR CITY NOW, MAKE UP THE HOUSES, HELL YES.

LONG POINTLESS POST BUT ok so i think i just might be ok my mom is very gullable and has believed every very bad lie i told her as a teenager and i have constructed an elaborate (but still somewhat true) alernate story to why i’m in therapy/on meds

ok soo a few months ago i had some physical health issues that short version cranked my anxiety up to 100 and I couldnt sleep for literally 2 days straight and I was with my mom to distract me and she knew I was so nervous I couldn’t sleep. I went to the doc for the health issues and ima tell my mom that I mentioned being so anxious i didnt sleep for 2 days and how that concerend the doc so she referred me to a therapist just in case. So I’ll say I went just cuz the doc told me to and at the therapy session i mentioned being very stressed out over school and nervous and discouraged (which my mom knows all of this) and the therapist thought it would be good for me to continue seeing her to manage my stress levels in school. For the psych and meds ill say i mentioned not being able to sleep (this is true) the therapist reccomneded a psych just in case so I went and and i mentioned my insomia again and the psych prescibed me a very low dose (emphasis on low dose) of meds to maybe help with the minor school anxiety but also to help me sleep. my mom has insomnia bad and knows i have it too so that part she will 100% believe and be sympathetic towards. And she believes ANYTHING that comes out of my mouth. And i know she’ll think the meds are a little extreme but if i emphasize the insomnia she might not flip over it. And if i just act like i dont think i have anxiety but ill try the meds for the insomia i dont think shell flip.

She still might judge me but as long as she doesnt know i actually DO have anxiety very bad and am depressed and would like to kill myself then im fine. And if she asks why i didnt tell her I’ll say i was really embarassed and make her feel bad for me lol

~29/10/2021~ The last of the summer roses 🥀 ^^^ A lot of overwhelm seems to have come out today 😰 Had a meeting with disability advisor from uni first thing to update me on a meeting that she had yesterday with the school - there's still a long way to go but things sound better than I expected given that they seem to be talking along the lines of me continuing with the course and starting my placement which is promising. Also seem to be accepting that they made some assumptions about the reasons behind the reasonable adjustments - want to arrange a meeting to talk this through directly with me 😮 Only really ahh thing that came up - doesn't sound like it's going to be possible for me to have an alernative mode of assessment for an upcoming assessment - so in the space of 2 weeks I'm going to have to endure a mock up role play scenario with a professional actor - which is going to explode my autistic brain with confusion - felt like bursting into tears 😭 It was a lot to process... Then phone call with GP - there was sort of a lot to update on - she is going to sign off a letter to support my PIP review if I draft it 👍 Had quite a few errands to run. I’m posting this article for three reasons. One, further evidence of the erosion of the importance of science in the education of our children because of Republican resistance. Two, because this article actually includes the Next Generation Science Standards that progressive states are adopting and that repressive, regressive states are rejecting. I’ve seen the standards as part of the volunteer work I do in the desert when teaching kids about ecology, food webs, water, erosion and climate change. Three, to be smarmy: the new Secretary of Education seems to like home schooling and alernative schools. It may be time to create an entire network of quasi-public schools and home schooling assistance with the objective of teaching our children the truth, as opposed to the Republican truth.
