I wouldn't say I'm good at calculating stuff in my head but I really notice that kids not being able to calculate simple stuff in their head is getting more and more common.
#i am blaming that on the schools and teachers and just always having a phone in case u need to calculate sth#my 5th&6th grade maths teacher absolutely drilled the Einmaleins up to like 12 into us#that really still helps#also i dont think kids are ever explictily taught how to calculate stuff in ur head#like the ammount of times i had to break big numbers down for kids to calculate piece by piece and feeling like they hadnt considered#that you could calculate it like that in ur head.....#like yeah reading comprehension is getting worse but also number comprehension i feel like#i almost cried when a 9th grader i teach had 0 clue that ½ is 0.5 and ¼ 0.25.....#isnt that common knowledge anymore ????#personal
