Prompt: Prongsfoot accidental marriage after a night out
Thank you so much! This one took a big of a silly turn! I hope you like it!
(917 words) Read on AO3 or under the cut!
There was something tickling Siriusâ nose and he couldnât quite make out what it was, but he was also too hungover to open his eyes to investigate. Instead, he decided to turn over and hoped that the other side of the bed would be more comfortable.Â
He did not find another pillow, instead, he rolled into the familiar, hard shape of Jamesâ shoulder blades. The impact made his nose burn and he almost blinked his eyes open if it wasnât for the sun that was already beading down on them like they were in Ibiza and not bloody Scotland.Â
Sirius shifted and buried his face between Jamesâ damp shirt. This, of course, started another train of thought that took him further and further away from unconsciousness. Why was Jamesâ shirt damp? He took an investigative sniff and expected the sour smell of beer and vodka and whatever other spirits theyâd excessively enjoyed the day prior being sweated out by the perpetually hotâin both senses of the wordâJames.Â
But the smell didnât come. Instead, he inhaled a nose full of petrichor, grass and the slight musk of a nightâs out.Â
He supposed that if anything was going to force him to open his eyes, this was going to have to be it. Sirius would simply have to find a different way of coping with the pounding in his head. With a bit of luck, this something was a full English and about three pints of strong Oolong with a generous swig of milk.Â
Reluctantly, he willed his eyelids into squints against the morning sun assaulting them from over a hill.Â
Now, this would not have been the first time that James and him would have woken up in a field somewhere after a night of too much fun. Though, generally speaking, they could at least see the pub theyâd stumbled out of.Â
Not this time. It was just a field and a singular highland cow staring at them from across the field, comfortably chewing cud. It seemed friendly enough. It had not woken them in the process of moo-dering them. Which Sirius appreciated.Â
That did, however, not mean he wanted to stay in the field with the highland cow now that he had regained consciousness and sobriety brought back common sense.
âProngs?â he croaked, clearing his while he pushed himself up into a proper sitting position. Sirius tried not to cringe as he started to feel the damp spots where his denim had started to absorb the morning. His fingers reached up to massage the burning soreness of his throat out and brushed past the tell-tale tenderness of a love bite on the soft part of his throat.Â
Sirius cursed under his breath, the sound making James stir beside him. âProngs?â he repeated and placed his hands on Jamesâ side, trying to shake him awake when another odd sight caught his attention.Â
If it hadnât been for the colour, Sirius might not have, but he didnât wear gold usually. So, the braided band stood out, glinting untarnished and new on the fourth finger of his right hand. He wasnât sure why, but in that moment he remembered Lily telling him that wedding bands are worn on that finger because it is the only finger with a vein connecting it to the heart.Â
His heart just so happened to be snoring, still.Â
Sirius rubbed his eyes and rolled back his shoulders before giving James one last shove. âWake up, or Iâll let the coo lick your face,â he threatened.
Finally, Jamesâ snoring stopped and he stirred. âYeah, yeah, just let me finish my dream,â he mumbled and turned around onto his stomach, exposing the bare small of his back and for just a moment, Sirius was fascinated with the dimples at the base of his spine.Â
Sirius fought the urge to put his mouth on them and to let his mind wander beyond that. Those were not thoughts he should be entertaining in their current predicament. âSorry, love, but I need you to move,â he protested, his cold fingers brushing along the exposed skin.Â
Jamesâs head jolted up, his head swivelling side to side wildly as he, too, took in their unorthodox surroundings. âWhere are we?âÂ
The slight gravel in his voice did things to Siriusâs already acrobatic stomach and he had to take a deep breath before answering. âIn a field, with a highland coo and I thinkâwell, hopeâGrenta Green is right over that hill there, I think,â he pointed, his eyes lingering on the gold glinting warmly against his pale knuckles.Â
He was not the only one who noticed. James twisted to his side and grabbed a hold of the hand that had been pointing in the direction of the infamous village. âThatâs new,â he commented and in a torturous display of self-control James slowly unfolded Siriusâs fingers, carefully bending them straight, one digit at a time. His palm pressed into Siriusâ and there he could see the singular gold band on Jamesâ finger.
They both were silent for a moment, their hungover minds taking a while to process what they were seeing.Â
âWhere did you say we were again?â James asked after a moment of silence.Â
Sirius sucked his teeth and pulled up one shoulder. âGretna Green.âÂ
âAre you thinking what I am thinking?â
âYeah,â Sirius sighed, his eyes honing in on the wedding bands, his lips pressed together. âYou must have picked the rings, because I have better taste than that.âÂ

You are one of the few people who ship prongsfoot and Jegulus. How do you keep that up in the fandom and what is so appealing for you about both Jegulus and Prongsfoot? Elaborate
Hi nonnie, thanks for such an interesting ask (and also thanks for confirming my vague impression that most people choose one or the other ship but rarely both), and I apologize for the incoming wall of text.
How do I keep that up in the fandomâwell, tbh, mostly by staying in my corner and not interacting with the fandom all that much. Connecting with people doesn't come naturally to me in general (hello undiagnosed autism), so this is my usual mode of operation anyway. However, Jegulus shippers have been mostly lovely, even though they don't seem to engage much, which I'm guessing is partly because they have so much material to choose from, so it can get kinda overwhelming and impossible to interact with everything and everyone. I did meet a few great people through Jegulus, though, and I treasure those friendships highly. When I tried to interact with the prongsfoot people, I was quickly taught that Jegulus shippers are not welcome. (I mean come on, this is ridiculous, it's just making imaginary people fall in love, it shouldn't be this divisive). It almost soured me on the ship altogether, but I love James and Sirius too much, so I just decided to stick to my lane, quietly write about them, and not get involved in this part of the community. It makes me a little sad, but that's the way things are.
Anyway. Now onto the more fun part, what I find appealing about both of these ships. To me, they're two different sides of the same coin, sort of. I believe I already mentioned this once, but Jegulus has a lot of inherently popular tropes going for it:
Enemies to lovers
Dating/pining in secret
Best friend's brother
Grumpy x sunshine
Sport rivals (quidditch or any other sport in modern AUs)
Second chances (in case Regulus joins the DE and then changes his mind)
Starcrossed lovers (pun intended)
Redemption arc
Tragic endings (if that's your thing)
So despite the characters never interacting in canon, there's a lot to build on and that's what makes the ship so attractive to a lot of readers and writers, myself included. Also, precisely because these two characters never really interacted in canon, we have so much room for interpretation, and almost nothing of it can be called wrong (I mean, it's fic, so it inherently can't be wrong, but still.). If you squint, you can even imagine Jegulus IS canon. Do we know who James dated before Lily? Nope. Him so obnoxiously crushing on a popular girl could very well be overcompensating. So yes, there's a lot to play with.
Prongsfoot, on the other hand, has a lot of basis in canon (I know this doesn't have to matter, but my OCD brain kinda likes it when things align with canon. That doesn't mean I agree or support JKR. She can rot for all I care.) James and Sirius are canonically besties. And not only besties, they're completely unhinged about each other. We only see them interact rather briefly, but it's clear they're devoted to each other. (I particularly love the moment when a girl eyes Sirius hopefully and he completely misses it because he's too busy ogling James.) Sirius is the only one who can make James behave. James is the one Sirius runs to when he needs sanctuary. They created freaking two-way mirrors to communicate when the other was in detention because they're so co-dependent an hour or two without speaking to the other is just too long. I know people argue with "yes, because they're brothers" - excuse me, do you actually have siblings? This is not sibling behavior :D (Also, they're not. Sirius lived with the Potters for about a year when he was 16 before moving out, and that's that.) Tbh, I don't understand why this ship isn't top-tier popular because, in any other fandom, it would be, but here, Wolfstar stole their spotlight, and the rest is history. Probably partly because we don't actually see James and Sirius both alive at the same time. (That's just my guess, though.) Speaking in story tropes, they're the epitome of friends-to-lovers, (possibly bi/gay awakening), soulmates, oblivious idiots. I'm generally a big fan of the friends-to-lovers dynamic, so that's probably what attracts me most to this ship.
So for me, as a writer, it's fun to explore these different facets of the charactersâbecause the James from prongsfoot is not the same James who loves Regulus (although sometimes it's confusing to keep all these headcanons separated in my brain, and they start to influence each other, lol). It's also fun to write the different dynamics, so I don't get bored.
TL;DR: Both ships are great for different reasons, I wish people were more tolerant of other ships (and characters), and I've got a long prongsfoot and jegulus story coming in case you're interested. Cheers, and once again, thanks for the ask.
(PS. this is what happens when someone tells me to elaborate.)

With all respect Lord Chaos (is that ok?), but how can it be that your lordship is talking about such amazing stuff anywhere but on the prongsfoot discord? đ
I love these ideas! I'm currently reading this gem called the ghost of you, it keeps me awake by @gracelesslady23. You have an aged James here, and it's just pure delight! And also a little bit of competency kink if you squint đĽ
Ootp James comes back is my roman empire.
But breaking up and getting together again after meeting at harry's wedding? Sjgjskakkfa? The greedy bitch in me wants it all! :)
Thank you for your little insight đđź
I actually love Lord Chaos and I'm going to call myself that from now on, thank you đ
You're right, unfortunately I am not in that server, or very many servers at all. Here's the thing about Discord servers: I don't play nice in them đ I have a handful of private ones that I'm in that were started by friends and that are kept very small, and I'm in a ton of Discord DMs and group chats, but servers where there are, like, rules and stuff? And servers where I have to respect other people's opinions on ships I hate???? No. I'm too bitchy and opinionated for that. Don't get me wrong, I love love love Prongsfoot, and I love a lot of the people in the Prongsfoot fandom, but the problem with Prongsfoot is all the side ships are ones that I hate. Usually, because Sirius is taken, people default to pairing Remus with Tonks or Lily in J/S fics, and I cannot handle those two ships. Or they pair Lily with Snape, and that is another hard fucking no of mine.
So I love Prongsfoot, but I hate its side ships, which is why it's best that I keep myself restricted to talking about it on Tumblr and not in a server where I will piss people off with my inability to stomach R*madora, lmaoooooo.
(And yes, I have read that fic, and pretty much every other adult Prongsfoot fic on AO3! Which is, like, 15 fics đ We're starving, y'all.)
Thank you for coming to me to talk about Prongsfoot, anon. It gives me life!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Thanks so much for the tag @strugglequill!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
18 :)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
336K (wow thats so much more than I thought it would be) - but this does count the 3 unrevealed and anon-ed fics so...
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've written bits and pieces for a whole bunch of different fandoms, but mainly write for Harry Potter and I've only ever posted HP fics online.
4. Top 5 fics by kudos?
the ghost of you, it keeps me awake (currently unrevealed for rewrites); and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst; In Plain Sight; The Wedding Date; Just Mates
All prongsfoot :)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes!! I adore receiving comments on my fics and try to respond to as many of them as I can (even if it sometimes takes me a while to get to it).
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm very much a happy ending writer (these characters already go through so much angst in canon, I can't help it) although I certainly enjoy building up some angst in the lead up to the happy ending... but if I had to pick probably my jilypad-if-you-squint entry into this year's Kill Your Darlings MCD fest flickering light in an endless night although I tried to give it somewhat of a hopefully ending, even if its not necessarily a happy one.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All the others lol. Haha but maybe you'll see me in hindsight I certainly spent more time with S/J after they are officially together in that fic than I usually do and there's like two chapters of smut/fluff to make up for the earlier angst.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Luckily, only few times (thank god for the small insular fandom that is prongsfoot <3), but it always hurts and turns me off writing for a period. I feel so sorry for any writer who has experienced it.
9. Do you write smut?
Sure do. Although, I do struggle a bit with writing it. I've also realised preferences sway towards the vanilla (with maybe a bit of voyeurism, exhibitionism thrown in), so that's usually what I feel comfortable writing :)
10. Do you write crossovers?
Nope. I wrote some dreadful Queer as Folk/HP crossovers as a teenager (which will NEVER see the light of day) but haven't for years and years.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! I was so thrilled that someone liked my work enough to do so.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No I haven't. I am quite insecure in my unfinished drafts so I think I might struggle to share that with someone in order to co-write, but maybe one day!
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Can't go past Sirius/James. I've loved them for over a decade (which is insane) but Merlin/Arthur have been a close contender at certain times of my life <3
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
I want you to ruin my life I just lost steam on the project and it went in a direction that I wasn't completely happy with. I do feel guilty though, which is why its now on permanent hiatus and anon-ed lol.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Ummm... I think I can come up with a cool concept / AU idea once in a while.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Writing Endings is probably the thing I'm most annoyed with myself about at the moment!! Finishing projects without being distracted by new ones. Purple prose (probably), sometimes even I get tired when editing my ridiculously convoluted introspection scenes (although I think, or at least hope, i'm getting better at editing them down). Writing characters and POVs outside of the ones I'm most familiar with. Writing oneshots and actually keeping them at a reasonable length (see issues with endings lol). Self confidences... the list goes on.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I'd love to be fluent enough in another language to do so one day.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter, probably Harry/Hermione (but I didn't finish or post anything until fairly recently).
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Probably and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst, its probably the fic I've re-read the most and has so many of my favourite tropes in it. And idk I'm just really proud that I actually wrote something that long and managed to see it through and finish it.
Tagging (No Pressure): @lovelymasks @groundzero-v @mycupofrum @roalinda @bronzeagepizzeria
or whoever else would like to share :)

For 2024 in review:
11. What fic was the most difficult to write?
12. What fic was the easiest to write?
16. What's your favorite title of the year?
Hi Lina!! Thanks for your ask! Love these questions. đĽ°
11. What fic was the most difficult to write?
Probably The easiest truth (Prongsfoot). I wrote it for a prompt that was very long and detailed. It gave me the structure but also limited some of my own choices. Also I tried to make the fic a drabble but it wasn't really possible and so I wrote it in the style where I tried to express a lot with few words but it's still around 2k. But it was good practise and made my writing more concise.
12. What fic was the easiest to write?
Darkness (Prongsfoot if you squint). I got a vision for it late at night while half asleep, typed it into my phone and then forgot about it for the whole next day until I remembered it in the evening. Definitely a fic born out of stream of consciousness. It's only around 800 words, written for Prongsfoot microfic. I enjoyed exploring James's dark side a lot. :)
16. What's your favorite title of the year?
I'll go with Regardless (I love you) (James & Sirius). I'm so proud that I came up with it on my own and didn't use a song title/lyrics or just name it in the most basic way possible like I usually do (e.g. Darkness đ).

for your ship thing!!
jily, bartylus, jegulus, rosekiller, marlily, pandalily, dorlene, prongsfoot, wolfstar
yay!!! thank youu
so i actually don't dislike any of these, but i am still excited to rank them omg. also, i never intended to make a long ass list LMAO. it was supposed to be a small thing, but i got a little invested
wolfstar - i really do hate to be basic, but they'll always go right to the top for me <3
jily - it was very hard for me to put this here for some reason, but it had to be done. mainly because i am obsessed with every jily variant ever in sitcoms and stuff (if you squint, there'll always be a jily variant in a sitcom/comedy), plus they were the first ever couple i obsessively read ffs about a few years ago, so they really got me into fandom spaces
rosekiller - very superficially, i see them as wolfstar, but psychotic and slytherin and clinically insane. also, i love their canon story and how fucked up they are as people. i think the fandom really needed some nuance to it, and these characters very much bring it.
jegulus - love jeggy :) my babies. perfect trope tbh. theyre amazing and in love!
marylily - this one was actually very very hard. i dont knoww. i love dorlene and pandalily, but i feel that marylily is a bit closer to my heart. for so long i would have put pandalily before marylily, but i think because i've written marylily fanfics now, i feel like i know them very well. whereas pandalily is a little more distant from me. (overall though, i definitely enjoy the pandalily trope more)
pandalily - it kills me that i'm ranking dorlene so low, i know. but ugh. god. i love pandalily. theyre so adorbs. theyre so lovely. both pandora and lily as seperate characters are just so beautiful.
dorlene - love them. they're messy and yearning and intensely in love. they're two hearts pulsing to the same beat, but ripped out of their chest and bleeding. idk. theyre great. i love dorlene, though it actually took me a while to, bc when i first joined the fandom i was insanely invested in marylene. (still am)
bartylus - i think they're great, but i much prefer the one sided bartylus. barty yearning over regulus, but regulus being oblivious and far too gone for james.
prongsfoot - mmmm yeah. i understand why others might ship it, but i love them only as a friendship. that being said, they're very much my favourite friendship in the entire fandom, and god they just make me want to sob for hours.
#thank you thank you thank you#this was really fun for me#the marauders#prongsfoot#jegulus#jily#wolfstar#rosekiller#dorlene#pandalily#marylily#bartylus#the slytherin skittles

We were too close to the stars
Title: taken from the song Reflections by the Neighbourhood. it's one of my all time favourite songs and I just can't get enough of it
Summary: Sirius misses his brother. Regulus wishes he had another choice.
Genre: Angst
Word count: 1k
Trigger warnings: slight mentions of blood, death etc (emphasis on slight. I tried to keep this as trigger free as possible)
Beta read by the lovely @screamingfae . Thank you <3
A/N: ok this is my first time posting a fic. I don't know anything about writing oh god. This is for the 300 followers writing challenge hosted by @lonely-dead-poets (sorry if it's bad). I took up the (familial) dialogue prompt "You can tell me anything, you know that, right? I won't judge you."
There's a lil poetry idk if it can even be called that. Also, there's slight fluff, along with all the angst.. to balance it a little ig? There's prongsfoot (otp or brotp- it's the reader's choice). K, here we go-
November 2nd, 1975
Late autumn air silently whistled through the grounds of Hogwarts, in little sighs, telling a strange tale of a time much better once. Weaving in and out, gently gliding over the long grass, silently stirring in agreement, by the Black lake. It rustled softly passing by the last of the yellowed leaves, as if reassuring the castle's inhabitants of some faint light of a time far way, amidst the dark and foreboding future.
Maybe in another life..
The future, that hung heavy in the air of Hogwarts, like fog after a cold December night.
Sirius Black sat by the Quidditch Pitch, his legs perched against the benches below, on the very top of one of the many stands.
The sun had already begun to set, team practice ending over an hour ago, yet Sirius found himself unable to move from his current position. It was starting to get cold, and the warm fire of the common room suddenly felt very appealing. But something seemed to hold him back.
So, wrapping his arms tightly around himself, he stayed where he was, silver rings glinting off his pale fingers, beneath the soft moonlight, his thoughts wandering between people, loved and unloved, places known and unknown, and the upcoming war that he knew he eventually had to fight in.
Maybe in another life...
If he hadn't been so engrossed in his thoughts, Sirius maybe would've, out of the corner of his eye, spotted a figure walking towards the Quidditch Pitch through the shadows. However, as the figure approached, he seemed to take notice of it and squinting closely, he could make out a Gryffindor uniform. Sirius was shrouded in the dark, in a way that prevented him from being seen at a glance from the grounds below.
He was, therefore, obviously surprised when the figure promptly started climbing up the stands, walking towards him.
"How did you find me?" Sirius mused, as the bespectacled figure of James Potter, tousle haired and cheeks flushed, huffed and sat down beside him.
"Saw you at practice today, figured you'd be here. It's your favourite place afterall," the other boy replied.
Sirius smiled to himself, despite the foreboding thoughts running through his mind a few moments ago.
Maybe in another life, where we weren't as broken..
"Why didn't you return to the common room earlier? Peter and I brought Butterbeer and snacks," he said, passing Sirius a bottle of the delectable drink, while opening one for himself.
"Didn't feel like it" he replied, taking a small sip and immediately feeling warmth spread through his body.
James took another gulp, and blew out a breath, it smelt like pumpkin pie, Sirius noted. They lapsed into a comfortable silence.
This was one of the very special things they had in their friendship, the times spent together were never awkward, and Sirius was really grateful for that. Given his present condition of mind, he really could use some peace and quiet to be honest, however unlike him that sounded.
After a few minutes of silence however, James spoke up, "What are you thinking about?"
Sirius contemplated telling him for a minute, after all James was his best friend; he had known Sirius at both his best and worst of times.
After moving in with James into his parents' house last year, his health, both physical and mental, to say the least, had significantly improved. Euphemia Potter had made sure of that. Ofcourse, none of it would've been possible in the first place without James' insistence to escape that hellhole.
It was in one of these twilight moments, when he actually thought about how much James had done for him, and his heart couldn't help but feel lucky.
The hazel eyed boy, looked over to him, with eyes filled with nothing but sincerity, he silently took hold of Sirius' freezing hand.
"You can tell me anything, you know that, right? I won't judge you."
Sirius sighed, he knew that if there was anyone he could openly talk to about the ongoings of his mind, it would be James.
And so he told him. Tilting his head, he looked up towards the greying November night sky.
"Regulus."
Maybe in another life, where we weren't as broken, I'd see the light, the life you held in your eyes.
Hesitancy laced his voice. His brother was a sore topic Sirius had tried his best to avoid his thoughts from spinning into. But something in his bestfriend's soft eyes and concerned voice made him spill everything present in his mind. As always.
James drew in a breath.
"Iâ" sighing, he ran a hand through his hair. "I'm scared for him."
James laced his fingers through the younger boy's, tightening his grip just a little at his confession, a silent gesture of comfort.
Sirius took in a breath, steadying himself, "I don't know what I'm supposed to doâ or rather, what I can do to be honest- I haven't even seen him since the lastâ" closing his eyes, he tried again, this time finishing in a whisper, "since the last summer."
The picture of a dark haired, grey-eyed boy, resembling a somewhat identical younger version of him, almost unwillingly seemed to drift into his mind's eye. Except, unlike Sirius, this boy had dark sunken cheeks, with even darker shadows under his eyes, that appeared to mask an entire ocean underneath, or maybe it was a storm that was hidden.. waiting for the thunder to clash..
Maybe in another life, where we weren't as broken..
That was the last time he'd seen Reg. With a little trickle of blood, stark against his pale cheeks (result of one of Mother's dear old dark spells, the result of a failed attempt at defending his brother), as he'd stared at Sirius with those shocked, pleading, tear-streaked stormy grey eyesâ
"Don't goâ" he'd saidâ no, requested, "please.." A tear trickled down his cheek.
Regulus Black stared up from the Astronomy tower, sky dark against the wintry night, the little streaks of grey reflected in his glassy eyes.
Maybe in another life...
How he wished he could run away, he didn't want this, he didn't choose thisâ ..or maybe he did...
Almost sixteen, but far too young to die.
Maybe in another life...
He knew.
Once sworn loyal, there wasn't an escape. Once gone under, there was no way out.
His only regret, the choice not made..
The brightest starâ
Regulus closed his eyes.
Dark black hair, shimmering under the summer sun; eyes so bright, he'd be blinded if he looked up, that infectious smileâ Sirius.
The brightest star in the night sky.
"Run away with me." He'd said one night, looking up at the star-strewn summer sky. The night before everything fell apart...
"I can'tâ" Regulus had cried back.
How he wished...Â
Maybe in another life, where we weren't as broken, I'd see the light, the life with you at sunrise.
