breath of the wild: here's this extremely minor npc who link finds at the broken heart pond, who explains that he'd been looking for the sweetheart pond and got lost. in the dialogue he quickly moves on from bemoaning his own error to hyping up link, encouraging him to find his own people and keep his chin up. he mentions his mother telling him similar supportive things throughout his entire life.
tears of the kingdom: this npc is now trying to join the yiga clan because he thinks learning martial arts and magic will make him seem cooler and get friends/girls. he eventually gives up and link finds him at a stable. once again, he quickly moves on from self-pity, declares himself cool no matter what, and starts to come up with ways that both he and link can find happiness and community. he mentions his mother in the same way again.
me in a prequel to both of those happenings, taking that small amount of characterization way too seriously:
#this passage alone answers so many mask off mimos questions.#why did he join the yiga clan?#why did he choose to help musa specifically?#why did he act so cartoonishly aloof around link earlier on but quickly reveal himself to be earnest and caring?#like yes the mimos love is a Bit but also. i am genuinely so endeared to this fucking character you guys#my writing#mask off#also this is just a huge parallel to the ethos of botw and totk link#going from duty bound silent knight with one goal and attached to one person to goofy world explorer doing sidequests and making friends#i just love the idea of Guy Who’s Lost (Positive)
