Hi, hope you’re recovering well. Have a distraction:
I was thinking about the water conspiracy and ran into a corollary: What’s up with tears in CrossWorlds? I assume that those, regardless of any other bodies of water, can’t be real liquid. Are they instant matter? Virtual Ricochet Tears? Did someone at Instatainment expressly program a crying feature into the game?
YEAH...i feel like theres not enough information on how avatars actually work for me to do anything but speculate wildly here but yeah. i have pondered this. i do think avatar tears have to be made of instant matter bc it's just the simplest explanation...they could also be AR projections like VRPs are but that seems like a weirdly specific use case*. instant matter simulating fluid mechanics is a whole can of worms isn't it though. i guess in typical Nanobot Trope fashion we are not really meant to think too hard about how this stuff physically works
if there is a specific Crying Mechanic programmed into the game it's probably as part of a whole set of avatar features related to emotional expression (eg they can also blush even though they don't have blood lol, sigh/breathe even without lungs...) i think it makes a lot of sense that instatainment, which prioritizes ~Immersion~ above everything else, would want to make the social/emotional aspects of the game as full-featured and in sync with real life as possible. real people already spend a lot of money on things like eye tracking, face tracking etc tech for social VR games, specifically for the sake of having more expressive avatars, so this doesn't seem too far removed from that
crying aside, though, basic physiological functions for avatars are also kind of a big mystery, right? seeing, hearing, speaking? do they have functioning sensory organs made out of instant matter? vocal cords?? Wouldnt there be some insanely advanced medical applications of instant matter tech if thats the case...
*rain and other weather effects are probably AR though
