8.) interrupting with a kiss

If he has to hear anything more about the capybaras on the next island over, Azriel is going to lose his mind. Yes, he supposes they are rather cute, as far as oversized rodents go. But he and Gwyn were sent here to explore temple ruins for some ancient amulet. Not to pet wildlife.

He chances a look back at the young priestess to find her staring wistfully over the turquoise waters. She's dressed in thin linen, much more heat-appropriate than his fighting leathers, and the way her clothes drape from her lean body is distracting, to say the least.

She's beautiful. Any fool could see that. But he can't afford to be distracted when checking for traps. She bites her lip nervously when she catches him looking again, and he manages a small smile before turning to press on. Her light, angelic voice drifts to him like a gentle wave, and he stops just to hear her speak.

"Did you know capybara-"

It happens too fast for Azriel to think. He's crossed the space between them in a flurry of dark shadow, capturing her face in his hands, stealing a kiss that freezes the air in his lungs.

He knows it's wrong. He should have asked permission, especially since it's Gwyn, but...but her hands cover the backs of his. Not to rip them away, but to hold him closer. He can hear the ocean lapping at the shore and the gulls soaring over them, but nothing is quite so lovely as her content little sigh as she melts into his touch.

He should pull away. Slowly, carefully, he deepens the kiss instead. His hands shift to the back of her skull, cradling her as he would anything precious. Her fingers cling to his leathers, and suddenly, it's like they can't be close enough. He wants to feel her - all of her - against his skin, wants to know what she tastes like, wants to-

But they're on a mission. And who's to say she really wants that, too?

Azriel releases her, taking a step back, breaking the kiss even though everything in him is screaming not to. They're both panting, eyes bright with a fever he's never felt before. She lunges for him and he catches her on instinct, his arms fast around her as they fall to the ground. His wings protest being crushed beneath him, but it only hurts for a moment.

Then her legs are straddling his hips and she's kissing him - kissing him - as though she can't take another minute without him. And he can't say no to her. Not like this, maybe not ever.

After they find that stupid necklace, he's going to take her to see the damn giant rodents. And maybe even pet them, too, if they're not too feral.

bragging rights bracket update #2

hello hello bracketeers!

the nhl bracket app was having a stronk when i was trying to get the updated rankings last night. i bet if someone took a close look at the code on that thing there would literally be a hamster on a wheel running it.

anyway, we had another three eliminations yesterday. luckily for a good chunk of participants (including me), the avs forced a game 7, so they are not included. first, vegas knocked out minnesota, bringing an end to the wonderful, prank-filled career of marc-andre fleury. then the toronto maple leafs claimed victory in the battle of ontario over the senators. lastly, the la kings fell victim to their old nemesis the edmonton oilers once more.

commentary, as always, is under the cut. once again, if i don't know which bracket belongs to you, just leave a comment or message me or something. it's more fun when i can make my roasts personal :)
