Okay so maybe I'm rolling up 25 years late with hot takes but why is Eve the most unbelievably useless character ever. Like I can live with her name being on the nose, I'm FASCINATED as to why Callisto thought ANY OF THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA ARE YOU SERIOUS, and the possibility of mirroring the redemption arc that's been the rest of the show...

And instead she throws a tantrum, runs away and does some emo self inflicted suffering, and then DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. She's 25, not 5. She doesn't even try to defend herself, or Gabrielle, or Xena. And like okay maybe she wants to try it Eli's way, but maybe DISCUSS THAT. We already saw that whole thing play out with Gabrielle, and it would be interesting if it DID work out with Eve, but that's not even discussed.

Absolutely love me some extremely off the rails Xena but what the hell guys come on. I feel like there was so much wasted potential in the plot, in the writing generally, and the weak performance crushed the quality even more.

The single time I have ever felt anything for Eve from the jump forward until the end of s5 is when Xena says she thinks Eve must have been a beautiful child, and Eve says, "I was. I liked spiders." AS IF THAT'S A TOTALLY NORMAL THING TO SAY I absolutely loved it. Her and Xena being stupid about the spider at the end is literally me and my mom constantly, so I did appreciate that silly moment.

And "our daughter" sent me, as in it absolutely launched me fully out of Earth's atmosphere and into orbit. This season felt like they got in trouble for being too gay, and there's been so little casual moments of love even passed off as friendship, but everyone clearly made it work as much as they could. There's still a lot of little lines calling out the relationship and just queerness in general.
