I think I’m pretty good at analyzing why very, very popular things are popular even when they’re Not the Best or Not My Thing, but I have to admit that I still fundamentally don’t understand the initial success of Twilight. Not on an emotional level, anyway.

#the thing is that the twilight phenomenon became unignorable #around the same time that Taylor Swift first got famous #and I was not into either #but when ‘teardrops on my guitar’ came on the radio #I instantly thought of a dozen girls I knew who would go crazy for it #when I read twilight I was just like how did my aunt (not a major reader) and my friends (overwhelmed with schoolwork)#not fall asleep during the middle chapters of this book #I don’t think I even found the book particularly offensive or bad style-wise #and I didn’t hate any of the characters beyond finding Edward’s overbearing attitude annoying #I thought Bella was kind of funny actually #it was the pacing
