they have tea in ana's palace everyday, just the two of them, they're so poised and picture perfect through the entire thing everyone thinks it's just the emperor giving profound advice to his heir

it's actually them deadass scheming,,, ana has no qualms discussing everything from court gossip to military tactics, both of which she's so on top of all the time

if anyone shit talks jennette or claude, this tea party is where their slow and agonizing demise is planned out to the dot

[true story - count sivan once made the fatal mistake of expressing his favour for athy as the next empress, dissing jennette by comparing her to athy sm which inevitably sparked a debate that ranked the princesses. a week after athy's sources informed her of the kindling behind this new debate, the count's sudden divorce became the talk of the town, and the man's business faced bankruptcy all of a sudden. the sivans still haven't recovered.)

athy n jennette were actually allowed to visit kiel in arlanta a few times, except it was too dark at their first arrival, postponing the meeting to the next morning

buttt then jettie can't sleep and she decides on a midnight snack run (their hotel doesn't really have the maids the palace does, but oh well. she's left the palace w lucas n athy plenty of times)

felix tags along btw, he knows this trip is important to the girls since they're leaving the palace without their Overprotective Papas™ for the first time and want some sense of independence, but... she's just so smol n he couldn't bear it if anything happens so he just shadows her

she totally knows he's there

n e ways so there's a juice place right beside their hotel which she aims for, but when jennette reaches it, it's closed

and out of nowhere, a voice addresses her - "hey you, do you come here a lot?" she nearly jumps out of her skin at the brunette, relaxing when she sees he's literally a kid around her age and not a murderer lmfaoo "me neither," he continues without waiting for her, pouting at the closed sign, before he asks for her name and whether she's new in arlanta

she confirms that yes, she's only visiting, and refuses to tell the stranger her name, still feeling strange at being addressed as 'you' for the first time (well, minus lucas, but he was like her brother and had the emotional capacity of a teaspoon, so)

he eyes her. "you're so weird. i've never seen a girl out so late before, and alone too. are you stupid?"

(felix has his sword out at this point)

she's flushing now and has no idea why she's still out here, but then this stranger kid apparently senses her mood and tells her the best ice cream store in arlanta is not too far away

(he also explains he knows someone who's starts doing weird things when she's hungry as well, and tries to defend that ice cream is actually a healthy midnight snack, "you can just take a healthy flavour like strawberry or mango, mangos are healthy,,right"💀️💀)

so jettie has travelled all the way from obelia, she loves her papa but he would have a heart attack if he found out she was ever awake this late?? yeah bc she's never getting this chance again, jennette accepts the offer

the stranger boy seems to be taking the whole "i'm not telling you my name," thing like a joke, and asks what he should call her since 'you' was getting boring

she goes with "lady j" and like a knight, the boy becomes "sir c"

(felix is on the verge of committing a crime - the princesses can only have one knight, after all)

they walk as the the boy navigates the streets in the dark, and she asks whether he's from the academy, seeing his uniform

"of course i am! you could probably tell bc i look so smart, right?"

she snorts. "yeah, that."

she also comes to know that this guy,,,well he might as well be a tourist? she's out here asking stuff like "oh where's the statue of lady alphia?" or "aren't we really close to the museum where they keep the first emperor's sword?" and he goes "lady do i look like your brochure?? but if you turn right from here there's a cool arcade and across the street from there is the best street food vendor you'll ever eat from."

well at least mans had his priorities straight 😌

"so can you take this off?" he asks, pointing towards her dress once they've neared the store

anyways jettie has been living with lucas n her dad farr too long to not take this the wrong way?? "...no?"

the boy raises an eyebrow "look, it looks like an expensive cloak but i promise i'll return it, alright? i gotta hide my uniform."

ohhhhhhh. 😳.

so she unfastens the cloak and because he's kinda just staring at it cluelessly (he can't even tie his shoelaces fight me), jennette sighs and moves the clothing over his shoulder, fastening it in place at his neck

he's literally a tomato when she looks back up and realises that yes, we are way too close rn

bc she's ana's daughter, jennette by default cannot function when she's flustered. so she kinda stumbles backwards like a fish out of water (years of princess training n etiquette? where art thou??) and 'sir c' has to grab her forearm so she doesn't bump into the pillar behind her smfh

the shopkeep is definitely suspicious of this pair that's definitely too young to be out so late, but chalks it down to his sleeplessness

they escape the store with the ice cream before the shopkeep can ask any questions, and 'sir c' escorts jennette back to her hotel. he climbs onto the roof of the building, helping her up as well

(felix wishes he had a magic stone to capture this moment, this is the first time he's seen jennette become such fast friends with someone)

she stands on the roof (it hurts her butt so she doesn't wanna sit)

"my sister would be so jealous right now," jennette murmurs, "she told me her ideal first date would be either a picnic or something like a moonlit walk. we're having like a moonlit picnic."

it's silent for a few seconds the boy speaks up, "is this a date?"

oh-

oh.

"i mean- i didn't- i don't- uh."

give her some time lmfao she's loading

"i don't really mind that," he tells her, and she thinks she might just walk off the roof in her embarrassment - who just says something like that?? "you're probably feeling really lucky right now, right?"

he does look pretty in the moonlight, she admits to herself, listening as he excitedly tells her about his siblings at home and how she should send an offering to the gods since they gave her the good fortune to be on a date with the most good looking one of all four of them

in turn, she tells him about how she spent her childhood away from her amazing dad and had gotten closer to him recently, about her sharp-witted uncle, her sister and friends

(the 'friends' section includes felix and he's melting)

she smiles - it's almost as if, at finding out he treasures his family just as much as she does, they've gotten a bit closer

and he tries to listen. jennette had guessed that his temperament was somewhat like her dad's - her dad didn't know how to listen, always making his opinion known before anything else, though she supposes as emperor he could do that

'sir c', on the other hand, tried his best, his blue eyes focused on her as he almost burst from the unsaid words he was holding back, trying to let her finish. the sight was an odd mix of sad and insanely adorable that she couldn't help but let him tell her about everything he couldn't hold in

sensing she could pass out from her exhaustion nearly half an hour later, and 'sir c' escorts her to her window and helps her sneak in bc "what sort of knight would i be otherwise?!"

(felix can't stop shaking the entire night)

the next morning, jennette's heart is pounding as kiel shows her, athy and felix across campus - the chance is low, but still...

"ezekiel!" comes a voice, and the four watch as a turquoise haired boy waves down the alpheus heir "are these the guests you mentioned?"

kiel introduces the trio to johannes vastia before asking, "where's cabel?"

"at the training grounds, he asked if you could bring everyone there so he could show them around there."

"... they're my guests though?"

athy is quick to befriend johannes (i mean she and his sister are practically the same person, so) and at the grounds, jennette's blood runs cold

(so does felix's)

the brunette doesn't notice her at first, arguing with johannes about something as kiel introduces him as cabel ernst

jennette is hyperventilating?? actually back up is this girl even breathing??

cabel ernst from kiel's letters? the 'loud and obnoxious cabel ernst', who gradually turned into 'my acquaintance cabel ernst', then 'hardworking, passionate cabel ernst', and finally 'my friend cabel'?

she'd actually rather admired this slow build of respect between her friend and the ernst boy, and had even expressed her interest to meet him

"this is the first daughter of his highness prince claude de alger obelia, princess athanasia-" cabel mock salutes the princess before his mouth forms an 'o' and he remembers to bow, "-and here's the emperor's only daughter, her highness princess je-"

andddd his eyes widen comically "-hey, lady, it's you?"

yeah jettie is on the brink of literal death - her entire face reddens as this...cabel, grins at her

she watches as he glances behind her, "and you're the guy who was following us - sup?"

felix flinches "...you knew...?"

cabel shrugs. "i mean you do kinda suck ass at the whole subtle thing."

"don't say it like that," jennette retorts, "felix was trying his best."

"princess 😭😭 you knew as well?"

"uhhhh no?"

athy + kiel in a corner: 👁️👄👁️

they watch as cabel's eyes widen all of a sudden and he just,,,runs away

yeah well anyway he comes rushing back a few minutes later, a piece of cloth in his hand "...*huff* here *huff*...you go."

athy totally flips out "jennette is that your CLOAK???!??"

"uhhhhh no?"

"um do you realise uncle would literally wage war at this."

and as if it would make everything better,

"i washed it," cabel offers with a grin

"you didn't," the vastia heir deadpans

"i mean, johan helped a little bit."

kiel smiles murderously at the pair. "johan, did you know cabel took the princess out?"

"wait, you're a PRINCESS??"

so the group orders some coffee (milk for cabel smfh) to find out what happened, cabel mentions "date" and everything goes to shit again lmfao

kiel and felix scheme against poor cabel while athy n johan get over that stage pretty quick ("listen. MY sister will be living with ME after the marriage and if your friend wants to be with her he'll have to come with us to obelia." and johan's just like "fine by me ✌️😊") and start planning the wedding

cabel + jennette dip n sneak out of the academy again to get the juice they couldn't the night before bc shit is getting awkward here

on another note, our uncle cius' musical intelligence is actually very high - he can probably play more instruments than i can name tbh, but he feels most comfortable singing and i shit you not, this man has straight up an angel's voice

(didn't like singing in front of others coz he was secretly a nerd and only knew old love songs with deep lyrics, athy found out and educated him)

jennette tends to have nightmares often, most often regarding their family - she's seen her father murder her uncle for the throne, and vice versa, athy admitting her affections towards jennette were a front to get the position of crown princess, her uncle killing her to solidify athy's claim, etc - her family is her everything, so despite however many times these horrible scenes play before her, she's left sobbing uncontrollably

and on these nights, she leaves for her father's room, who holds her close and sings her to sleep

also lucas n jennette are like sibling duo# 1,,, jettie is an active lucathy shipper even though he denies it sm - like their dynamic is just peaceful walks in the gardens as she watches the plants n lucas shi talks the nobility and kiel

claude and athy have a thing for each other's sleeping on each other? idk it's weird

athy once fell asleep on the couch while reading with him, and claude moved her head onto his lap so she wouldn't be uncomfy sitting - well, she woke up to his hand absentmindedly raking through her hair and it was just so soothing that whenever she's tired and he's working or reading, she just plops her head on his lap and zzzz

and claude wondered what was up with that, so she proposed they switch roles and he felt so awkward trying to lay down in front of her lmao

obviously athy noticed and she just started reading, thinking he might be more comfortable if her attention isn't on him completely - she ended up reading out loud while playing with his collar and he just,,,passed out

also anastacius has definitely pulled jennette aside regarding the issue of his heir at some point - she had been hesitant at first before admitting she wouldn't like to be the empress at all

i know we'd all love to see empress!jettie and her sister duchess!athy ruling the court, but i really really really can't see her wanting the title?

so thus start athy's empress lessons, but holy shit her teacher is mean

like this man makes me want to bash his face in?? so he doesn't like the idea of athy becoming empress over jennette at all, all bc of both hers and claude's mothers being commoners

he has one of those long ass sticks that you use in presentation to point at stuff?? idk but basically mans has athy name every region, its lords and their vassals during their first lesson

the first time she gets one wrong, she's too shocked as the stick meets the delicate skin of her forearm to react

now the thing is, wmmap!athy would probably stand up against this bc her dad is the emperor and she's his only heir, but i imagine with anastacius' social nature he holds many parties / balls where she's probably heard claude's mom + diana slander and it wouldn't be unreasonable for her to be self conscious abt it (now she's the emperor's heir while jennette, 100% royal + noble blood, is right there which probably makes her feel even less legitimate)

so she endures it, the light marks on her arms as well as the taunts of his she's too smart to not understand - perhaps this is the price to be accepted in jennette's place?

and honestly, no one really notices until at breakfast a few weeks in, where jennette mentions how her dresses are still so modest when sleeveless dresses were more in fashion - ana is suspicious because athy is always on top of these things, societal trends and such, and claude is sus from the way she hesitates slightly in her answer, "i haven't had the time lately, i suppose"

the lesson after focuses on ettiquete since everyone knows she's good at politics and such already, but now tears of frustration are pooling in her eyes because what the hell?? this guy had made an opinion of her long before he even met her, so anything she did would be wrong in his eyes

he gives her a sinister smile, "tired, princess?"

"no," she insists, keeping her voice level. he's about to spout some other nonsense, when anastacius enters the room, taking a seat across from her

anastacius watches quietly as athy answers the teacher's questions in her "public" voice. he watches as her usually cheery disposition is replaced by something far more...dead, despite the front she puts on for him. he's soundless as she hesitates in her answers where she normally would've been louder, more confident. he stops watching in silence when his niece flinches at the sight of the stick

oh.

he interrupts her lesson, not missing the way she winces almost imperceptibly when he grabs ahold of her arm, announcing, "we're going."

he just- it's just that that was the moment he knew for sure - the sight of his niece emotionally disheveled for the first time reminds him too much of how his own brother had once been, and he'd... he'd promised he wouldn't let anyone hurt his family anymore

he ends up taking her to the port with some of his advisors to welcome some royal guests, insisting that she would learn better from experience rather than books - but the guest delegation gets so boring that he sneaks her out of the meeting n they end up in the streets

now athy has no idea where they are, but apparently her uncle does?? ana has his hand on her head as he navigates the streets of the capitol as if he comes here everyday, using magic to casually disguise the two of them

in the meantime?

felix is at the port trying to cover for them smfh, he makes up this huge story about how the great wise emperor wanted to familiarize his heir with the locals, understand her subjects, yada yada

back at the palace prince claude is currently dragging a man by his collar and only upon jennette's insistence does he throw him in prison rather than literally kill him

(jettie visits him later in prison to give the guy a piece of her mind, after felix's visit he's sporting a few noticable bruises and the prisoner is practically unrecognizable once lucas visits)

back to athy + ana, they end up stuffing themselves with some super good street food as anastacius confesses that yes, he has definitely been sneaking out of the palace ever since he was a lil kid

athy almost mentions that she, lucas n jettie sneak out too but that might give him a heart attack, so

"it's so pretty, uncle cius," she says, gesturing towards the necklace he holds up. once he's paid for it, anastacius fists the necklace, opening it to reveal the jewel pendant - now imbued with his magic and replaced with gold lettering of the word athanasia

and she realises that yes, that's what both him and her dad have called her all her life, haven't they?

"you're my heir, athanasia," he uncle tells her with a small smile, "i am proud of that."

getting teary, she tells him, "i'm really proud of you too, uncle cius," triggering a very flustered + blushy anastacius

this mans craves validation - not from the sycophantic nobility, or the obsequious concubines he'd dismissed all those years ago, but from the family he thought he'd neither have nor deserve

and just the acknowledgement is so large for athy - he wants her as his heir, not because she's his niece, but bc he trusts her to look after his hard work after him??? - yeah she's totally bawling her eyes out

anastacius magics her a handkerchief but my mans magic isn't that strong?? lmao he's used up so much by now that the 'handkerchief' turns out to be some scratchy tissues

nope! athy laughs at that, offering him a sip of her drink as she magics another straw and a proper handkerchief lmfaoo

n e ways so when they return, everyone's shocked to learn that the crown heir, princess athanasia will actually be joining the official circles as anastacius' temporary aid - he doesn't wanna entrust her to anyone but family, and decides that the best way to learn is by his side

(she's so confused bc lucas doesn't normally bat an eyelash when she wears the prettiest gowns, but he deadass can't look her in the eyes when she's in her aid uniform - it's more like a suit than it is a dress)

long story short everyone preps for vacation, but by some aCCiDeNt claude n athy end up at a different destination than jettie n ana, when she suggests returning to the palace to regroup, mans deadass sulks

"so you wouldn't like to spend this time with your father, despite barely visiting my office for weeks?"

o-oh

so at their return, the nobility starts pestering everyone that the princesses aren't independent enough, yada yada idc so to quell this annoyance, to the girls' joy, they get to move into emerald palace together, while claude and ana stay in the ruby and main palaces respectively

literally emerald palace becomes such a cool place to be in since it's the residence of the only decent people in this family, the brothers spend hours going through the requests of maids who want to be transferred

it's such a busy time because of athy joining the court and jettie starting her studies as well - naturally, since she isn't becoming empress, she'll be getting the duchy claude + athy were to be given in the beginning

speaking of futures, jettie's interest in plants and cooking has definitely branched out into herbs

claude notices her tending to a small garden during his visit to athy and even gives her a few tips (he had been studying medical since he was a kid, and picked it up again when athy was born and the empire stablised somewhat)

this soon becomes a routinely thing, and he actually starts reading up on some herbs and even orders a few for her prospering garden

after a month of her learning from books, claude proposes adding a medic as one of her teachers, and turns out his hunch was right?? she's excelling at medicine and they keep it between themselves for the time being

it doesn't last long though, bc they're on a hunting trip when ana injures his leg

and !! this girl istg, she gets to cleaning and wrapping the wound without blinking an eye, as if it's the most natural thing ever, and claude is just smirking while athy and anastacius and literally everyone else: 🌟💞✨jettie✨💞🌟

At this moment you had already lost your entire squad: beginning with Marco a few years ago inside the walls and ending with Mikasa and Armin trying to protect Eren (who by the way was killed a moment after you passed away); Jean, your biggest and only hope in life, the light of your eyes but also the man you were gonna marry after an entire life of being meeting each other, died a month ago with Connie when they were fighting with their best in the middle of the war, Sasha your best friend, received a shoot and you can remember that painful day so good as if it was a recent memory, Mikasa and Armin were tragically shot more than 7 times, Historia died in the middle of her birth and you can still remember how caotic everything got after be losing our queen, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie even if that was hard to believe to everybody else died trying to avoid Levi's and Hange's deaths, Erwin was crushed by a rock, Ymir, Marco and Hange died in a titans stomach and Levi.... he fought until he could and then passed away... everything so tragic and fast... so dark but never enough for this cruel life.

Mikasa and Armin, sadly but true, arrived a moments before to their destiny.

"Who's over there?" A familiar voice sounded on Mikasa and Armin's ears

"Calm down Levi"

"L-levi? E-Erwin?"

"Huh? Armin...? OH MY GOD ARMIN IS HERE.... AND HE IS WITH MIKASA..." Annie shouted and for the first time in a long long long time she smiled when she saw the short blonde boy

"What the heck is this? Where we are Armin?" Mikasa took Armin's hand and hugged his shoulder, she looked shocked and scared, something that Armin never thought he would be able to see.

"Is okay Ackerman, you are safe... you just don't need to fight no more" Erwin said in a tone that sounded so warm and after that he got closer to them and gave them a big welcome hug that just felt so good, so comfortable, so much as a sense of family, like a father who hugs his kids in a rainy and dark night and there, Mikasa understood everything, indeed... they were safe.

"Come on guys, come and have some fun with us, we were just playing here in the beach..." Hange said so happy and when Erwin ended the hug, Armin tried to focus his view in the others and scratched his eyes trying to convince him that it was not a beautiful dream

"What's up boy? You think we are not real, aren't you?" Ymir asked in a funny tone

"Yeeeeessss, please tell me that I'm not dreaming one of the happiest dreams in my life..."

"The last thing we knew about y/n was that she was lidering Jean's squad and she got trapped by a titans hand.... we don't know exactly if she survived but I heard when one of her soldiers said that she got an arm and a leg broken and we exactly heard when the titan crushed her until her ribs got broken too so..." Mikasa turned around and began to walk to Jean's place "I-I'm sorry Jean" She didn't said anything else and just gave him a big hug while she started crying, Jean was nothing else than pain and tears because he wasn't able to imagine the girl he loved the most be suffering that bad...

On the middle of that sad moment Jean noticed a familiar smell, he didn't knew if he was getting insane or something but he could swear that it was his lovers perfume or that familiar smell she used to had always and made him go crazy each time they were together...

After being listening to the last voice of a soldier that you couldn't recognize begging you to still fighting inside the titans mouth you stopped hearing everything and now there was only one hugging silence mixed with a warm weather and a pretty bright light that was letting you blind but at the same time was throwing away all the pain and the concern,,,, you were crying thinking about how miserable and sad your life was but tons of memories ran away in your mind trying to convince you to just concentrate on the happy moments like when you met Jean for the first time and even if his name was pronounced as "Jan" you loved to annoyed him and call him instead "Jin" or when you were 17 and tried to organize a small night party inside the walls to try to get relaxed and forget about all the problems outside and as the guys were dancing and laughing and talking you were just dancing a slow and pretty song under the moon and stars shine with Jean when he asked you to be his girl and you proudly said yes; the moments you spent with Mikasa, Sasha, Historia and Ymir doing your stuff, the day you saw Armin's face watching the sea for the first time or the days you loved to be with Sasha, Connie and Jean making fun of yourselves and doing crazy shits, the day before Jean's death when in front of the sea he tried his hardest to make you feel happy and he proposed you to marry him with his mother's ring after the war gets finished without be knowing that that night would be the last one you would be spending together, the last one you would be feeling him inside you , filling you up at the only way he knew.... but when you heard that first sound of a wave crushing with a rock and more water and a couple of laughs and happy shouts like "Sash... look behind" "Agggggh Ymir stop carrying me!!" "Erwiiiiiin, Liiiiiivai... look at the stars" a weird sensation ran over your body and you asked again

"Where am I?"

"JEAN LOOK.... WHO'S HERE??" Marco said running to your position helping you to stand up and trying to help you understand what was going on.

Just like 5 minutes after Eren appeared by your side but he didn't looked hurted or in pain anymore, he didn't looked tired and he was with that young image you could remember perfectly of him, not a long long hair and a weird moustache, just that long enough hair tied in a messy bun and a relaxed face, he was layed in the... sand?? and then "EREH" Mikasa run with Armin to try to help him

"Hey smol y/n... you missed me?"

"M-Marco?? Holy shit... I- I just-"

"Quiet girl, I know this can be a little bit messy the first moments but look who's here.... we are all together after so many years honey"

Jean was standing in the same place he was with the ball in his hands, crying in silence.... happy because you were here but sad because you passed through hard things to arrive there

"Where am I? What are you doing here? A-am I dead?"

"I know it can be hard smol girl but yes... we are all dead-" Marco was interrupted

"You are in the heaven" and then Sasha and Connie made the same gestures they made with Mikasa and Armin

"Where's Jean?" you took Marco's hand to stand up and shaked thesand that was on the pretty white dress you were wearing

"Ow yes... he is over there" that was definitel an answer you were not expecting to receive and when Marco pointed at the specific direction and Connie move aside you saw him as the same way you remembered... pretty light brown eyes, messy light brown mullet, perfect nose, kissable lips, greek god body and beautiful voice

"Jean...? oh mY LORD JEAN" and you started crying immediately while you where trying to run to his place

"y-y/n" he started crying too and left the ball fall in the sand, he opened his arms and waited until you arrived to give you the best hug you could ever ask "Y-you are here, holy shit you are here and you are fine" he couldn't believe that and while he was speaking he was grabbing your head with his both hands "You are finally here babe"

"Yes my love, I'm here finally"

And he gave you another big hug "You made a good work, I'm your fan number one princess... you were just so brave and you face all that by your own..."

"What are you talking about Jin?"

"Mikasa and Armin told us everything you made down there alone, I'm sorry I couldn't stay with you but I never asked to be killed by somebody that I did even kne-"

You were crying yet and you grabbed his head with your hands looking at his face just to kiss him and holy shit, you really needed to kiss him after one month and 5 days of being losing him

"I missed you y/n, I missed you so much" he put his forehead with yours and grab both sides of your head with his hands

"I missed you too Jeanbo"

"Please promise me this time that we won't leave each other alone again..."

"I just wanna stay here in this heavenly place with you till the end of times"

And then all of your group walked with the rest... all of them were there... Nanaba, Mike, Petra, Hannes, Moblit, Thomas, Hitch, Lynnes... all of them were there safe and happy and you refused to spent the night and maybe the rest of your existance in that heavenly world that looked as a beautiful and magestical floating island in the middle of the hope and peace.

Omg, I'm sorry for the bad spelling but I'm not a native English speaker and I really really tried to make my best writing in this language.

Also is the first time I write a history like this with them and in here, I'm kinda knew and I really don't know how to make this good.

A Beating Heart

Nines gets a kitty. c: This was honestly inspired by a picture of a injured(damaged?) RK900 holding a kitten.

It was a chilly Detroit night as RK900 made it's way home after completing it's latest mission. While the crime scene had initially looked to be a break in and missing person's case, it had turned out to be nothing more than an accident while playing hide and go seek. The baby sitter had slipped on a toy and crashed into a bookshelf and glass table. While her injuries were serious, she would likely make a full recovery. The child had been frightened by the noise and remained in their surprisingly good hiding place. If the android didn't have it's bio-sensors the child would have likely not been found. Naturally, Nines had been the one to solve the case as Gavin hung out in a corner being useless and hurling insults at it. Insults so petty that even if Nines had feelings to be hurt, it still would have been rolling it's optical components. Once the case had been solved, Gavin took off without the RK900, leaving it to walk home. It didn't mind though, it didn't feel cold nor did it have emotions to be impacted by Gavin's callousness.

The android suddenly paused, it's LED flickering yellow in contemplation. It had heard something. The noise was very faint, and indeed only barely registered in it's auditory processor, but it was a noise all the same. While RK900 did not experience curiosity, it's investigative protocols seemed to kick in from the noise. It supposed that it wouldn't hurt to see what the cause was, after all it could be a crime in progress or a person that needs help. As an officer of the law, it's main mission is to protect and serve the people.

The closer that Nines got to the sound, the more it determined that the sound was most definitely not human. It went into an abandoned alleyway, sensors on high alert in case this was meant to be a trap. Anti-android traps weren't exactly uncommon. They were completely illegal though. RK900 knelt down in front of a small box, one hand on it's gun and the other carefully reaching into the desecrated cardboard stack. There was definitely something in there, and Nines' bio-scanner could only detect faint signs from one source. The inside of the box. It removed it's hand from it's gun and gently pulled the critter from the box to get a better look at it.

"Mew!" A tiny orange tabby greeted the android. The kitten wiggled around, and Nines kept a gentle, but steady grip on the furry critter. It let out quiet, but steady mews and the android looked it over. First thing of note, the kitten seemed to be only about two weeks old, female, and possibly orphaned. Nines looked around and back at the cold and malnourished kitten. Definitely orphaned. Also of note, the kitten's internal temperature was dangerously low. She will die soon if RK900 doesn't help her. Of course, caring for animals, baby animals especially was not in it's programming. It didn't go against it, but it wasn't within the parameters of what was expected from it. And yet, despite this, Nines found itself tucking the small, chatty thing into it's jacket. Androids didn't produce heat like mammals do, while it was true that the electrical conduction happening in their processors and inner workings did give off heat, the thirium that fueled them also acted as a coolant. It meant that androids were almost always room temperature or cooler. It was one of the things that made them distinguishable from humans. But in that moment, the only thing preventing a cold death for that poor kitten was the climate inappropriate fabric making up the android's jacket. It wasn't much, but it would have to do.

With the kitten secured, Nines made it's way to the nearest animal shelter. The local municipal shelter was thankfully still open, even if Nines had only managed to come in a few minutes before they closed for the night. Being a public shelter, they would have to take the tiny tabby in. The squirrely young man at the counter was cleaning up when he saw RK900 approaching. He immediately stiffened once he caught sight of the android. He was obviously intimidated, but RK900 didn't care. The android approached the man.

"I found this-" the human flinched as RK900 reached into it's jacket, only to relax when it pulled the kitten out. "In a box outside. It's hypothermic, malnourished, dehydrated, and likely abandoned." The young man's eyes softened as he grasped the small kitten.

"Poor baby..." He cooed softly, cradling the infant tabby to his chest. He gave Nines a grave look. "We don't have any volunteers available to care for this kitten, unfortunately. So, if you are unable to take her, we'll have to euthanize her." RK900 remained stoic, and the man cast his gaze to the side. "However, if you'd be willing to keep the kitten, I'll feed her and give her some treatment right now and I could give you some supplies to care for her."

RK900 was a machine, it ran off protocols and functions. It did not feel, it could not feel. And unlike it's predecessor, it did not go deviant and start simulating human emotions. Even the steady thrum of the thirium pump in it's chest was only a utility meant to keep it functional. It wasn't like a beating heart. And yet still, the RK900 found itself accepting the young man's offer foster the squirmy furball. He seemed surprised that Nines had decided to keep the kitten. Even RK900 itself couldn't explain what was driving it to put so much effort into trying to save one insignificant animal. It knew that the kitten's chances of survival were low, but it was trying to help it anyway.

Once the kitten had been re-hydrated, warmed, and fed, the squirrely young man gave RK900 some kitten meal replacement formula, a small bed with a blanket, a heating pad, and a bottle. Along with instructions on caring for kittens. When it got home, the android set up the small bed and heating pad for the kitten next to it's work desk. As for Nines' apartment, it was basically an empty apartment with a desk and a single shelving unit. Some called it weird, others called it minimalistic, Nines called it an apartment. It looked over at the teeny tabby curled up on the small cat bed next to it's work desk. Without even considering why, Nines got down and sat next to the kitten, gently running his fingertips on the kitty's head. The kitten purred and leaned into the touch, even going as far as to start kneading it's blanket. Nines couldn't explain it's behavior. It couldn't feel the kitten's fur under it's fingertips, but it assumed that it was warm and soft. Even if it had no real concept of what warm and soft really are, it could define them as adjective words, but had no real reference of what they really felt like. RK900 paused, fingers on either side of the kitten's neck. There was no real reason for it to care for this small creature. After all, she served no purpose in accomplishing it's set task. And it didn't feel anything. It wouldn't be sad or heartbroken if the kitten were to die. In fact... RK900 added minor pressure to the kitten's neck. ...It could probably kill the thing and feel nothing at all.

Nines removed it's fingers from the kitten's neck. It felt absolutely nothing for this kitten, but still couldn't bring itself to kill her. It wondered why, it couldn't comprehend the reasons for keeping the thing alive. The kitten served no purpose and was only a use of RK900's time and a potential distraction. Though, it supposed that maybe one of it's co-workers would be open to taking in the kitten. As for now, RK900 was more than capable of caring for a simple kitten. She needed to be fed every few hours, but since androids don't require rest, that really isn't a problem.

As the time to start work for the next day drifted closer, Nines found that the newly fed kitten was nestling against and kneading (or rather, attempting to knead) it's chest. The kitten likely felt the vibrations from it's thirium pump and must have assumed that the biocomponant was it's mother's heart. Rather than remove the kitten, Nines gently stroked the tabby's head and went back to contemplating why it didn't leave the kitten to die. But no matter which point it attempted to address the question from, it could find no answer. It didn't know why it decided to save the kitten's life. It just did. There was also another problem to consider. It wondered if it should give the kitten a name of some sort. Nines couldn’t keep calling her “kitten.” 

Ultimately it decided that naming the cat was too deviant.

At the precinct, the kitten got loads of positive attention. Plenty of "awwws" and "so cutes" from the other officers as she wiggled around in her pet carrier. Unfortunately, no one offered to take her. As soon as Gavin spotted RK900, he sauntered over, likely prepping another one of his speeches about how humans are better than androids or whatever. However the smirk fell from his face once he heard a tiny mew emanating from the carrier.

"Hey Nines, you got a cat?" Gavin was reaching into the carrier and gently stroking the little kitten with a finger. She responded by purring and rubbing against his hand. "Aww, soft kitter. Smol kitter..." Gavin purred.

"...Kitter?" That's an interesting term for a cat. "I found her abandoned in a cardboard box at approximately 11:24 last night."

"So what did you name her?" Gavin held in an ugly laugh. "Cat?"

"I didn't." Nines didn't even look at his co-worker, he had been done with this conversation before it had begun. "I plan on giving her to someone else. I have no intentions of adopting this cat."

"Really now?" Gavin's smirk was a little less malicious than usual. "They all say that."

"I am not adopting this animal." RK900's stoic face and monotone voice held. Gavin shrugged. "Well detective Reed, you're quite fond of domestic felines. Why don't you take her?" Gavin laughed, hard.

"I have three cats already, Nines. This little pumpkin," Gavin gestured towards the kitten that was now napping. "Is your responsibility." He laughed as he walked away and RK900 went back to working at it's terminal.

Later on, RK900 found itself being bothered by it's predecessor.

"You adopted a kitten?" There was a hint of surprise to the RK800's tone. It was looking into the pet carrier, head tilted slightly.

"I found her."

"Really?" Connor smiled slightly. "Well, RK900, I didn't peg you as the type to do animal rescue. What are you naming her?"

"I'm not, my plan is to give her to someone else."

"Oh." The android deflated slightly. "I'd take her, but Sumo might not get along with her." Of course Connor would offer to help, as it was known to simulate empathy. However, introducing a new animal into a household that already has pets is not an easy thing to do. Cats and dogs don't always get along, and a small kitten wouldn't stand a chance if Sumo decided that he didn't want to share his home. That end result would be... less than ideal.

Nines casually ignored the warning in his peripheral and went back to work.

It wasn't until late, when RK900 was about to return home when LT Anderson approached it.

"So I heard you were looking for someone to give your little kitten to."

"Yes I was, did you happen to know someone who-"

"Look," Hanks eyes and voice were firm, commanding even. "Don't pawn that poor kitten off to someone else if you can take care of it. It's bad enough the poor little guy lost it's momma. It doesn't need to be abandoned again." Hank was about to go when he suddenly turned back around to face RK900. "Oh and give the poor thing a name for fucks sake."

Hank's words had an effect on Nines, as he carefully considered what the old man had said to him. He told him in no uncertain terms to adopt the cat. Of course, RK900 didn't take orders from him, so he had no obligation to listen. There really wasn't anything stopping him from dropping the kitten off at some shelter and going about it's existence. However, instead Nines found itself walking back into it's apartment and preparing some food for the kitten. It had no explanation for why it had decided to keep the kitten. It just did.

Once the kitten was nice and fed and slipped out of Nine's grasp and wiggled up to his pump regulator. The kitten rubbed against the area and started to purr.

Nines didn't truly comprehend what it was experiencing in that moment, but it seemed pleasant. It gently rested it's hand on the kitten and began stroking her softly. Pumpkin Spice. Nines would name the kitten Pumpkin Spice. The kitten mewed softly as the android cradled her against it's chest. Unlike Pumpkin Spice, Nines didn't have a beating heart in it's chest. Only the cold, steady thrum of a thirium pump to keep it going.

But for Pumpkin Spice, that would do.

it was the start of the summer break and instead of flying back home, you decided to stay and make use of the time to explore the city a little and let loose

it has been a while since you last clean up around the apartment so you decided to get to that to kick start the long break

the moment you stepped out of the apartment to throw out the trash, you were greeted by a baby girl (her name’s Luna) waddling towards you and giggling

you were familiar with her, your neighbour would babysit her almost everyday, you often played with her whenever you see her outside of the apartment

“Luna!” suddenly a tall figure came and carried her in his arms

he had such a lean body, the muscles on his body were defined

HIS BROAD SHOULDERS

you then realised that he didn’t have a shirt on and quickly kept your eyes to the ground

“hi!” you looked up as he greeted you with a smile

oh boy was he cute

“oh hello?” you could stare into his eyes for ages

“erm… oh right, sorry i need to throw myself- i mean the trash” he giggled while you quickly made your way to the rubbish chute

way to go ______, you made yourself sound like an idiot

when you came back, you see that he was still walking around hand-in-hand with Luna

“Luna? hello” you said as you crouched down to match her height and she walked right past you, classic

“don’t worry I get the same treatment too,” he laughed

both of you exchanged smiles once again before you went back to your apartment

you looked into the peephole and saw that he was still playing around with her

it made your heart skip a beat, seeing that he was so good with Luna

you kept remembering his laugh, how does one laugh so handsomely? and his smile. his eyes! you could look into them forever

you realised that you’ve never seen him around before

was he a new tenant? or is he the repair man?

or maybe even, he’s the father to the child? this was something you wished wasn’t true at all

you suddenly remembered how your neighbour mentioned that the father of the child worked overseas and he doesn’t come home as often, so you thought maybe he indeed is the father

maybe that’s why he's so good at taking care of the baby

you decided to get over it before you fall way in too deep

a few days later, you decided to head out for awhile

you’ve been cooped up at home for too long, it’s a good way to get some fresh air

when you locked the door behind you, you heard a familiar voice greeted “hi there!” and you froze, recognising that voice

it was that cute, broad shoulder guy - the guy who is possibly the father of Luna

quick, pretend that you don’t remember him!

“oh hello?”

“you don’t remember me? remember the other day? you were throwing yourself, i mean the trash out and I was out here with Luna?”

oh my goodness how can I forget that I indirectly said that I was the trash? fml something i would say irl tbh

“oh right! couldn’t recognise you there for a moment with the shirt on. wait, just, never mind,”

he just laughed it off as he stood beside you in the lift

“your daughter’s really cute. Mrs Kang takes care of her really well,” you said to break the ice

“wait I’m sorry what?”

“Luna? She’s your daughter, right?”

he started laughing hysterically, his eyes turning into crescent moons

“you’re a really funny person, you know that? Luna’s not my daughter,”

you blinked your eyes in shock at him

“and Mrs Kang is my mum. My name is Daniel,”

your neighbour have mentioned once that her son’s coming home, she probably told you during one of your late night conversations when you just got home from school

“OMG I am so sorry. You know what, just ignore me okay. I’m such an embarrassment,” you said as you got out of the lift

“hey, you’re not an embarrassment. c’mon, how about we grab coffee and maybe start over?” he quickly stood in front of you

“I’ll even pretend that nothing happened before this"

you pondered over it for a bit and thought, a little company wouldn’t hurt so you took up his offer

Daniel got really excited and held you by the wrist then led the way

he told you about wanting to go to this cafe that he has been eyeing on ever since he got home

the moment both of you reached the cafe, you were like !!!

“i used to always go to this cafe!” (back when you were free from the craziness that is school)

both of you ordered your drinks and sat by the window (aka your usual spot) and talked about almost everything

about school, family, work, Peter and Rooney - the cats you often see around which apparently belonged to him

that was also how he learnt that you are a cat lover like himself (he even sneakily suggested on bringing you out on a date to the cat cafe)

he also brought up the time when both of you first met which made you face palmed yourself (mentally)

“it was so hot that day, i just had to take my shirt off. i’m so sorry our first meeting had to be that way,”

“no no it’s fine really! i didn’t mind the view- IT, I MEAN IT”

your habit of accidentally verbally relaying your thoughts = the reason why you are single TRUTH

“i am so sorry. i am so embarrassing. if you don’t wanna hang out with me anymore, i totally understand”

“no! you’re actually really funny. i don’t think you’re embarrassing.” he laughed, showing off his bunny smile

“actually… i wanted to get to know you after we first met. i was waiting for you to head out of your apartment again but you didn’t. so i thought maybe it’s not meant to be till today, when we coincidentally met. I’m really happy that you said yes,” Daniel smiled shyly

you buried your face in your hands, touched by his words

“anyway what did you do in your apartment the whole time?”

“OH well you know… just lazing around, trying to recover from that embarrassing moment”

from that day onwards, both of you spent a lot of your days together, gradually being more and more comfortable with one another

you even shared inside jokes and gave each other nicknames

“why do you call me kid?” you asked him

“because you’re small and cute” lowkey want to fight him but you know you can’t coz you’re smol

both of you too enjoy going to the cafe, cat cafes, watching movies, going for karaoke sessions

sometimes you would just hang out at his place or at yours (did i say sometimes? i mean MOST of the time)

his mom is always glad to have you around, since you often help her with some work

“you know the other day, mom called you her daughter in law. you know what that means?” Daniel starts wiggling his eyebrows at you

“wha- KANG DANIEL STOP”

actually you weren’t sure if you were dating or just friends, you were stuck in that grey area

both of you didn’t really declare it as it is, you just went along with whatever you were feeling

though there were times where he seemed very boyfriend-like, it really made your heart flutter

like when he helps you to put on your shoes (even when you insist that you could do it), giving you his hoodies when you’re cold (it is now a growing collection in your wardrobe)

and especially when he's taking care of Luna and helping his mom

you genuinely do like him but you were too shy to express it

but when you do try to express it, you end up blushing so much and he’ll start teasing you about it

one of the days, the doorbell kept ringing in the early morning, disturbing your deep sleep

annoyed by it, you dragged your feet to answer the door in your just-rolled-out-of-bed state

when you opened the door, you see a sleepy Kang Daniel (looking REALLY adorable) with messy bed hair and a giggly Luna in his arms

“change of plans, let’s stay in” he said with a yawn as he sat down on your couch, while Luna played with his hair

he later explained that his mom had to run some errands so he has to take care of Luna for the day

you didn’t mind it, after all you love spending time with Luna

both of you decided to head over to his place since most of Luna’s things were there

while he gave Luna a bath, you prepared a quick meal for the three of you and fed the cats

after entertaining Luna for a bit, both of you decided to bring her to the swimming complex nearby to cool down from the crazy heat

so with Luna in your arms and Daniel carrying the bags, the three of you head off to the pool (ngl you guys look super cute, very family-like)

you guys had fun teaching Luna how to swim and stuff like that

halfway through Daniel decided to take off his top claiming that he was ‘feeling warm’, subtly showing off his arms and muscles

you knew he did that just to get a reaction from you, in which HE SUCCEEDED

you couldn’t even look at him properly and blushed so much to the point where Luna started patting your cheeks in attempt to rid of the redness

after a long day, it was time to head back home

on your way back, a lady approached both of you, offering you a handheld fan to keep Luna cool from the hot weather

“what a sweet couple! your baby is very cute”

“wHY THANK YOU! we should get going. let’s go babe,” Daniel replied as his arm wrapped around your waist

(you lowkey started using the fan coz it was getting HOT all up in here)

when you got home, you started cooking dinner while he gave Luna a bath

you were cleaning up in the kitchen when you felt someone brushing your hair back

when you looked back, you see Daniel smiling sweetly to you

“hey kid” he held onto your shoulders “it smells good!”

“well i tried my best. where’s Luna?”

“she’s drinking her milk at the living room. she’s gonna sleep soon”

“i’ll check up on her once i’m done here. you can go ahead and shower then eat dinner”

“thank you so much” he gave you a side hug, his lips almost touching your forehead

if anyone saw this moment, they would think you guys are a married couple, being all cute and domestic (yES I APPROVE)

you quickly snapped out of it when your heart started beating like crazy and went to check on Luna, without realising that you ended up falling asleep

when Daniel stepped out from his room after freshening up, he was greeted by your peaceful self beside Luna

he brushed your hair away from your face, silently observing your features

“beautiful” he whispered to himself

little did you know that he shared mutual feelings with you

after spending the day with you today and seeing how you took care of Luna (and also him), he knew he wanted to spend his life with you

even just seeing how you helped his mom, he knew you were the one

every time he thinks about how it’d be like if both of you got together, it’ll never fail to make his heart flutter

but the thought of you possibly not returning his feelings made him hesitate

this was the first time he felt so strongly towards someone, he didn’t want to mess it up or lose the spark that the both of you have

in that moment, his mom just got home and saw that scene

“oH MOM! haha when did you reach home?” he quickly stood up

“i just got here,” she went to the kitchen to check out the dishes “wow, something smells good"

“________ cooked for us earlier. She’s really good,”

“as expected from my daughter in law” she smirked, as she started scooping out some food for herself

“mom… do you really think of _______ that way?” he slowly approached her

“of course! i wouldn’t have called her that for nothing. why? wait... do you also see her that way?”

he nodded shyly then let out a soft giggle as he buried his face into his hands

“well you better tell her before it’s too late”

since it was getting pretty late, Daniel decided to bring you back to your apartment

(being the gentleman he is) he carried you bridal style to your bed

you started mumbling and wrapping your arms around him, he wanted to melt coz of your cuteness, he ended up grinning so widely

he managed to tuck you in bed without waking you up

he sat beside you, running his fingers through your hair when you suddenly held his hand

“can we please stay like this Daniel?” you hugged his arm, which shocked Daniel (he thought you were awake)

then realised you were just sleep-talking when you started telling him to stop stealing Rooney from you

but it did make his heart flutter, knowing that you were dreaming of him

the next day, you woke up even earlier than usual, surprised that you were back in your bed when your last memory was being at Daniel’s place

you made your way to the kitchen to grab a drink when you saw someone asleep on your couch

when you realised that it was Daniel, you figured that he probably brought you back, got too tired to head back so he resorted to sleeping on your couch

you crouched down by his sleeping figure, watching as he breathed in and out

you pushed his hair back, letting your fingers run down his facial features slowly as you admire his sleeping state

“i wish we could stay this way forever” you whispered to yourself

just as you were about to walk to the kitchen, you were being pulled back down to the couch, now face-to-face with Daniel

“me too” he smirked as he cuddled up to you

you stayed that way for awhile, enjoying the peace and serenity and the comfort between the both of you

“________” you love the way your name rolls off his tongue

“you know, I really wasn’t lying when I said that. I really want us to stay this way forever. by that, I mean us being together,” he started playing with your fingers, not making eye contact

you were speechless, only knowing now that he shared mutual feelings

Daniel, on the other hand, took your silence as a sign that you didn’t feel the same way, not knowing that you were just too surprised to even say anything

“you probably don’t feel the same way. that’s okay. i totally understand if you don’t feel- ”

chapters 1-8: i kinda like jurian actually (maybe ill regret saying that idk), lucien being protective of elain is making my heart warm, tamlin makes me wanna kill someone, feyre shouldve cut ianthe’s throat tbh, the twins give out such weird vibes, AND OMG rhys and feyre sending images of themselves sticking their tongues out is my moodboard i love it so much
