hey hope. this is probably oversharing and definitely overstepping, but i really just need to rant. this is gonna sound weird but i just started freshman year, so i'm probably one of your younger followers. but honestly i'm so stressed and anxious. i have friends and most of my teachers are good, but i'm honestly not used to the workload. everyone else seems so carefree, but honestly, i've always cared too much about grades and stuff like that. i sort of coasted through middle school, and now i'm really worried that i've reached my peak and nothing will ever come easy to me again. it all sort of hit me tonight and there's just this giant ball of dread in the pit of my stomach. i know school will get easier, but by the time i get used to it, i'll have to deal with college, and getting a job, and living on my own. really, i have no fucking clue what i'm doing, and i'm just quietly marinating in that feeling. so yea. hope you're having a good night.

you’re most definitely not overstepping at all. you guys can always come to me and talk about whatever. never feel like you cant! and listen *cracks back* *takes a drag from a cigarette* as an elder 24 year old, i know high school very well. high school was….. not the best experience if i’m being perfectly honest lmao. yet, that wasn’t so much on school as it was those around me and the environment. i loved learning, actually, even though the workload was a bit heavier.

there’s always going to be these nerves when you start a new chunk of academia. middle school…. high school…. college… because it’s all so unknown and you don’t know exactly what to expect!! fun fact: i still get that way every time i start a new semester of schooling— i freak myself out about the syllabus and work load but almost always i adapt to it quite quickly and that anxiety dissolves. im saying that only to let you know that you’re not alone in feeling this dread and fear. many, many people do. but, this pressure doesn’t have to cripple you. it is different than middle school, you’re right, but i found that the way you study and prioritize that study, ultimately, defines how stressed the workload actually is on you. i had a great AP BIO teacher freshman year of high school that taught me everything i know about study strategies and organizing the time to get into coursework without feeling overwhelmed. he used to be a professor, so his way of teaching reflected that. so! i’m going to pass those tips onto you x

1) make sure to organize your workload based on class and what deadlines are due the soonest (i recommend getting a tiny planner just for course work) this allows you to see a physical embodiment of your schedule and what needs to be done without just scrambling in your brain. 2) have the recorder on your phone ready anytime your teacher is lecturing in class (this has been my absolute lifesaver), so you can go back and listen to it whenever you want and also write notes from that recording without the pressure of the clock. 3) any extended assignments such as readings or projects or essays etc. don’t have to be done all in one sitting. prioritize blocks of the reading or parts of the project/essay for certain days and only get that done on those specific days. this causes you to feel less overwhelmed about workload as you’re chipping away at it little by little instead of facing it head on. 4) if it’s written on the board or repeated twice— it’s important and will probably come up again later on a test or discussion etc. 5) read out loud as sometimes it’s better attained if you can hear the information that you’re reading. 6) flash cards!!! are your best friend!!! use them!! 7) color code certain sections of notes or information you’re studying as i’ve always found that color helps me retain what i’m studying when it comes to regurgitating it later. 8) if you find that you don’t understand parts of the coursework, find examples that relate to your experiences rather than the textbook. 9) always ask questions or even go to tutoring if you don’t feel comfortable enough with something that was taught in class— i never needed tutoring before high school and i had too much pride to go when i needed it so i flunked a few tests before i realized that my pride is dumb and it helped tremendously. and 10) most importantly, give yourself room to breath!

i know when we spiral down an anxiety rabbit hole, our mind just lays intrusive thought over intrusive thought until we’re lying in a puddle of defeat and thinking that our life is going nowhere lmao. but, you’re so young, bb. you’re just starting high school. these thoughts about college and jobs and living on your own do not have any right to cause you this much fear and existential dread right now. it’s still a ways away, and isn’t affecting you presently. i’ve learned that giving yourself grace and focusing on your present more than your past or future keeps you from having a meltdown. you can only control your present, and it’s vital that you take it one step at a time. you don’t have to try and climb all the stairs at once. face each struggle or worry as they come not as they materialize in your mind. life is all about these stepping stones that culminate into something larger, so don’t feel like you have to take on the world every day. sometimes, you can just take on a monday and let tuesday wait.

hi anon! im sorry youre feeling overworked! i tend to have a Lot of my plate and bite off more than i can chew and i actually have organized work and designed operational systems/deployed tasks on a professional level so luckily i feel uniquely qualified to help with this!

1. make sure youre taking care of yourself outside of work. drink water, eat well, get enough, good quality sleep. if you dont take care of yourself, you wont have energy to work!

2. take proper time to relax/decompress when the work day is over. make sure your way of relaxing isn’t just jumping to a different, less urgent work-related task. im super guilty of “relaxing” by working on music or writing, which is fun, but its still work.

3. related to that, set boundaries around your work hours. when i work from home or collaboratively, i still set work hours for myself. before or after that time, i wont answer emails, discuss work related tasks, or work on projects. this prevents me from feeling like im always “on call” even when im not working

4. when it comes to approaching your workload, break up the project into small, managable chunks until each task no longer feels daunting. they can be as small as you need them to be (without creating more work for yourself) it can be overwhelming to think about everything you need to do, especially if you have a lot on your plate. if you have a deadline to meet, set smaller deadlines for each section of your work to make sure you stay on track.

for example, if youre working on an essay due in a week, you might break it up into

first day: outline & thesis statement/general idea of how you’ll support it second & third day: research supporting evidence / string together how each connects to your thesis fourth day: first draft fifth-seventh day: revise/rewrite as needed

each day has a similar amount of work, but no one task is overwhelming, and builds on the work you did on the previous day. also note i allowed a few days of buffer at the end, just in case you get behind. if you can help it, try not to schedule yourself down to the wire! this approach has worked for me for pretty much any task i have on my plate (not just academic!)

[ ? ] Are these all the options you have for commissions? [ A ] These are primarily just examples of things I've done consistently in the past! If you have a more 'custom' idea, we can certainly discuss it! I've been doing pixel art for over four years, so I have some decent experience, but like every artist I have limits to my current abilities. You can see both my Tumblr and DeviantArt galleries for more examples, including the options for the line styles, animations, and shading! [ ? ] What ARE all those options under the examples? [ A ] Hard lines means the piece will have "hard", solid black lines between each "section" of the piece: the outline, and between all the different colors, etc. Lineless means that rather than having that solid black line, I use a slightly darker shade of each color to outline them, like the full body dragon! This gives it a softer, 'lineless' look. Cell shading means that there's just one color used to shade, rather than a blend. The Kakashi doll on the far left has cell shading: just one color in a hard shape. Smooth shading means what it sounds like: a few colors are blended from dark to light to make the shadows smoother! I do a few very basic animations for certain dolls or icons when requested. Typically this refers to a one-pixel "bob", and a blink cycle. I can also have a doll open its mouth and bring up a small speech bubble if you'd like them to say something! Please bear in mind that animation takes additional time and effort, and though not required, additional support is appreciated for animated pieces! [ ? ] Why are there things you refuse to draw? [ A ] For the most part, it's simply a matter of preference. For others, it's a matter of ability. Some things are just a bit too complex for me to feel I can pull it off in a fashion consistent with the rest of my work, and therefore being worth your money! Hence a limit on complex poses and the number of characters per shot, or complex designs, like mecha. Other things like the ship limitations are just personal preferences that make me uncomfortable. The NSFW ban is mostly due to most hosting sites not liking to host mature artwork...and also a matter of both my ability, and personal preference. [ ? ] What constitutes NSFW? [ A ] For me, this includes any nudity that shows genitals - nipples and / or breasts are fine. This also includes anything sexual, including any and all fetishes, even if genitals are not shown. “I want everybody to grab a syllabus and a partner and discuss it.” Your music professor shouted. The girl before you passed back a few papers. You grabbed them, passing one to the boy next to you who shyly grabbed them. Too nervous to find a partner you sat there quietly, reading it to yourself before a voice interrupted you. “Do you want to partner?” His voice soft, almost inaudible. You met his eyes, giving a small smile as you nodded. “I’m Yn.” You Introduced yourself, the kid smiling in return. “Yoongi.” He positioned his body toward you. “Sorry for asking, they’ll quiz us on each other to see if we spoke to our partners. I saw you didn’t find a partner and I really didn’t want to get up.” You shook your head. “No, It’s fine. Im just terrible at starting conversations.” You admitted and he smiled bigger. “I understand that. I probably wouldn’t have spoken to you if not for the quiz.” He admitted. “So what made you take this class?” You asked and he perked up. “I love music. I really want to be a producer.” You listened, he went on for a few minutes talking about how music is his real dream, but he was also taking architecture as a fall safe. “I’m more into writing, but music was a passion of mine since I was little. This is more for fun. I really want to learn how to expand my writing and learn backgrounds to music.” You paused. “Producing seems fun, but I’m not sure I’d be any good at it.” You finished and he smiled. “I mean, you won’t know if you don’t try. This class is mainly based around our interest. She usually sections class into three parts. Well learn about lyrical composure first, then we learn about beats or sampling and how to incorporate it into your work, and then producing which mashing it all together.” He beamed. “Well maybe one day we can write a song together. I write, but I also sing.” He bit down on his smile. “I produce, but I also rap.” The professor rang her bell, everyone’s attention turning back to her. The class ended quickly, you exchanged numbers with yoongi and went to your next class. Psychology. Most the seats were filled already, except one in the very back. You didn’t recognize the person next to it until you got closer, but it was too late. Class was starting so you sat down quietly. Trying your best to not bring attention to yourself. The entire class you tried your hardest to not look at him or meet his eyes. you had psychology clas with jungkook. He hated you already and you were seated next to him. All professors went by the You sit in it, it’s your seat until the end of the school year. “I want everyone here to prepare themselves for a partnered project in a few days. You will partner up with someone in here, pull from the hat on a topic. One of you has to agree and the other has to disagree. You’ll discuss why you agree with the topic, why you think that way, and you’ll understand why the other disagrees and why they think that way. I’ll go into more detail when I’ve prepared more topics for you, but just know it’s coming and it should run a month. Yes,” she fake gasped as she stopped explaining. “It’s a month long project.” She mocked. “So i suggest whoever you get partnered with, you take the time with each other to become friends.” You’re dismissed, jungkook rushes out from his seat to leave. Dropping a slip from his folder as he ran off. By the time you reached down to call for him, he was gone. The piece of paper in your hand, your peeked. The camera you broke. The notice was sent a couple days ago he only had a week or so to claim his camera or else it would be pawned. Finally leaving the room and with your classes being over for the day. It was pretty much empty, but most kids were in class right now. “Good morning, Welcome to Vixens. Take a seat and I’ll be right with you.” Their voice chimed. “Uhm, hi. I was just wondering. Are you still hiring?” You questioned and they immediately looked up. “Oh god yes.” They laughed rushing over to you. “Hi, my name is V. I own the shop.” They clasped your hand in theirs, shaking it slightly aggressively. “We are desperately hiring, are you interested?” They started, speaking quickly not letting you answer. “It’s 14.50 an hour. It would be from noon to 8.” They paused, but before you could speak they continued. “Weekly Pay plus 100% of your tips.” You couldn’t help but smile. “Do I need an application or is it online?” They immediately pulled you into a hug. “Don’t need it, you’re hired.” V pulled you toward the back of the restaurant, sorting through paperwork for you to fill out, handing you a uniform and some name tags. “You can write your name on them, and I hope the uniform fits. If you need a different size, I can order them.” V slid a packet over to you. “Since were a restaurant on campus, I just needed your student ID. The forms auto fill after that. You can start Thursday.” You looked outside to the two customers entering. “Will you be okay today? You seemed kinda relieved when I said I was looking for a job.” You joked. V smiled and pushed you out the door. “The first week of classes we’re usually slow. Next week is when I’ll really really need the help.” Ushering you out the door, you laughed at their energy. 2:50pm. You had no clue what to do now, you finished class, applied and got a job, but now you had the rest of the day ahead of you with no clue as to what to you.

How can I get back to the co-ed building.” You looked around and he snickered. “You can go this way.” He pointed behind you down the pathway. “Think of the school as a giant circle.” He smiled. “If you walk with me to work, it will be just a few more minutes down the way.” He started walking and you followed behind. “So, co-ed huh?” He threw the apron over his shoulder. You hadn’t realized how tall he was until he stood beside you. “Yeah, it was what they gave me.” He nodded. Looking down to you while you spoke to him. “Freshman or sophomore?” He paused. “Freshman, nevermind. You wouldn’t have been lost if a sophomore.” He teased. “I haven’t really had time to explore. I never went on a tour.” You groaned and he laughed. His laugh was somewhat horse yet soft. It was warming. The familiar cafe signs came into view and you knew your walk was coming to an end. “Just keep walking down this pathway and you’ll eventually come back into your building.” He pointed down the campus. “It was nice talking to you, hopefully you’ll visit me at work some day.” He gave a soft wink before leaving you to go to work. Watching him slid his apron on quickly and effortlessly over his head. You made your way down the path he pointed and like he said, you eventually ran into your building.

Your first day of classes has gone unexpectedly well. Aside from getting lost occasionally, school has become a fun place for you to be. You’ve met so many new people. You weren’t even sure you wanted to go to school in the first place. everything was going to well, But was college going to be like this throughout the rest of the year?

Epilogues: Candy, chapters 6-13 [the rest of Epilogue 2]

I’m told that there are 40 chapters, and a postscript, in Candy - and also that it’s split into 8 individual ‘epilogues’ within that, of varying length. ‘Epilogue 2′ began with chapter 4, featuring Rose and Kanaya. So I kind of cut it off in exactly the wrong place. Oops!

Anyway I’m going to split these up by Epilogue section from now on. This one covers the rest of Epilogue 2, which mostly concerns shipping, and processing of feelings.

Here are the irons in the fire at the outset of chapter 6:

Gamzee is back! he claims to be setting out on a ‘redemption arc’

Terezi is in space somewhere looking for Vriska, but set to return at some point, and not all that happy that Gamzee’s back

Dirk has perceived some bad news. And briefly spoken about it with Jane, though without explaining anything.

But that’s all Epilogue 1 stuff - old hat!

Rose has suddenly recovered from her illness, and is patching things up with Kanaya

Jade has attempted to push Dave and Karkat to admit they’re into each other, but really just made things worse

Jane attempted to run for President of Earth C - to the trepidation of the Karkat, who hyperbolically suggested this would amount to troll genocide - but abandoned the idea

That’s all interesting but let’s talk about money! This is something I didn’t pick up on in the last post:

KARKAT: OK, SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. YOUR PRIORITIES ARE: NUMBER ONE, THE ECONOMY, WHICH LET ME REMIND YOU IS BUILT ENTIRELY ON INFINITE, FAKE MONEY THAT WE CAN MAKE AS MUCH OF AS WE WANT.

Elsewhere, Jane’s megacorp and stocks are mentioned.

One wonders why, given the machinery to manufacture just about anything by means of alchemizer, the forms of money, stocks, and corporations are retained... what sort of productive and reproductive labour is regulated and mediated by these markets? Or are they merely acting out the vestigial forms of capitalism as a bizarre drama...

As for the consequences of an infinite money supply, let’s not get into the ‘modern monetary theory’ debate on a Homestuck post, maybe.

on to chapter 6+

This is a Jane chapter. It opens almost immediately with economic discussion; Dave apparently once accused Jane of ‘neoliberal corporate welfare’ for trying to bolster the ‘struggling locksmith industry’ rendered unnecessary on a planet without crime.

She’s visiting Jake, who’s probably my least favourite Homestuck character (who’s not an alpha troll). About Dirk... Jake (Jane says) seems to still have a bit of a thing for him, and Jane, meanwhile, still “has no idea why she can’t get [Jake] out of her system, even after all these years.”

The reason Jane cancelled her run was, it turns out, because Dirk said ‘cancel everything’. She gets drunk, very quickly... and hits on Jake, who is completely oblivious to her advances. She speaks of wanting to abandon business to raise a family, which Jake himself notes is something rather new for her (though the whole traditional gender thing she does isn’t lol)

Jake/Jane isn’t a ship I have any sort of opinion about, honestly. Dirk/Jake’s terrible collapsing relationship was kind of interesting but yeah, here’s a thing. What even are heterosexuals though? “I want to clean your giant house and have a lot of children”... incomprehensible!

One thing I will give credit for is the narration: it creates pretty strong images of like, these characters as fully embodied people, being intimate in like, subtle physical ways. that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense... whatever lol. it works

chapter 7

...brings us back to Gamzee. fittingly, i’m listening to the friendsim soundtrack as i read this, and i just hit ‘take me to clown church’.

anyway since this whole story basically seems to be an exercise in developing ships along the lines of ‘A is into B, B is obvious to their advances’... Roxy’s hot for John now I guess? or at least, so Callie thinks. she insists they’re all going to be ‘very, very happy’ despite her disappointment.

anyway, then we get Gamzee saying a bunch of casually misogynist stuff to John about Roxy. in this context, basically two interpretations are shown: a shallow ‘oh he’s redeemed now’ attitude from Roxy and Callie, and a ‘oh god i hate this person keep him away from me’ attitude from John. Gamzee’s repulsive qualities are underlined by the narration (from John’s perspective): he’s unhygienic, he’s casually misogynist (which seems like a new element, and rather out of keeping with the gendered-but-somehow-theoretically-not-patriarchal Alternia)...

chapter 8

Rose and Kanaya chapter. Jane’s possible presidency is once again the subject of discussion. Jane apparently wanted to apply some kind of anti-troll eugenics policy, and tried to bring Kanaya on board - and got told to fuck off for it. Our two good lesbians agree that, if Karkat were president (and Dave running the economy), things might have worked out ok...

We are briefly introduced to a new character, a jadeblood troll called Swifer Eggmop. Her character archetype, we are directly told, is ‘1920s newsboy’.

We bear witness to an egg hatching (in prose, anyway). This particular baby grub out closely resembling Vriska... which Kanaya says is because she comes from a slurry based on the original 12 trolls. Rose notes this would make Vriska the troll’s Ancestor, which raises an interesting question of whether Ancestors still exist as a social concept on Earth C. Anyway, Kanaya wants to adopt baby Vriska, which can only be a fantastic idea...

KANAYA: There Are Two Things Of Which I Have No Doubt

KANAYA: That You And I Are Going To Be Happy For The Rest Of Our Lives

KANAYA: And That We Are Never Ever Going To See Vriska Again

I think we can safely assume that neither of those things are true. The emphasis on ‘happiness forever’, voiced by multiple characters, is interesting... also the turn towards reproduction.

I went to uni with people who have kids now. Heck I have friends who have a child (who they are trying to spare from gender)... but for most of my social circle, which is to say almost entirely 20-to-30-something trans women, even the idea of adopting is incomprehensible? It’s somehow weird to think of ‘wanting kids’ as the narrative of 20-something year olds...

Kanaya is right. Vriska is dead, and despite everything, she died a hero. Vriska was a complicated figure of contrasting extremes; her heroic actions were matched in scale only by her monstrous ones, and since no one had actually witnessed her end, it was impossible to say which side the pendulum swung and judged her death—Heroic or Just.

It would be a fitting memorial for her and Kanaya to raise a version of Vriska who would be given every chance to make good on her noble characteristics. A true, symbolic redemption arc. Something about the thought appeals to Rose’s taste for the dramatic flourish. It would be proof that this was all worth it in the end: the destruction of multiple universes, the death of Kanaya’s friends, the circuitous rites of suffering experienced by the nearly infinite splintered versions of every being to inhabit Paradox Space...

Once again, the notion of a ‘redemption arc’ enters the narrative explicitly, directly echoing fandom discussion. Unlike Gamzee, this is studiously neutral on the Vriska Question: steering exactly between ‘Vriska did nothing wrong’, nor ‘Vriska is a monster’. Regardless... I think it’s probably safe to say that everyone’s prophecies are wrong and we haven’t seen the last of the ‘true’ Vriska.

chapter 9

More of Jade trying very hard to ship her friends, to the discomfort of everyone involved. Jade kisses Karkat, and Karkat explicitly names what she’s doing as sexual assault, a violation of boundaries and consent - Jade attempts to convince him that no, it was really Dave who kissed him!

This prompts a long monologue from Dave in which it’s obvious that he has put some thought into kissing Karkat. Point seems to be: they sure are into each other but Jade’s intervention is not at all welcome. At least I hope that’s the point. I would prefer not to see Jade vindicated by the narrative.

Anyway, other things of cultural note: grub spaghetti is apparently still eaten on Earth C. I always thought it was implied that ‘grubs’ in Troll food were like, actual troll babies, but maybe they’re just ordinary (for certain values thereof...) bugs bc I don’t think Kanaya would stand for that.

chapter 10

The ‘Jane running for president’ subplot has largely disappeared, because what we’re really here for is... shipping! This time, a John/Roxy chapter. I think they call it Roxygen or something? Terezi explains the ‘pair the spares’ logic of the ship (dequirkified):

TEREZI: Um, yeah John.

TEREZI: We are not idiots. We can all do the math on this.

TEREZI: It’s not like you were going to fuck your human mom or human sister.

TEREZI: And you are “not a homosexual,” which takes Strider dick out of the equation.

TEREZI: And Kanaya is the only girl troll left, and she lesbian married one of the two remaining eligible human females.

TEREZI: Oh and Jake is a double threat. A human dad with a human dick!

TEREZI: So by a process of elimination, of *course* you were going to “fall in love” with Roxy.

Equation of ‘dick’ with ‘male’ there terezi but whatever... (god is this fic going to get into the question of what a ‘nook’ and a ‘bulge’ is...)

(lol i’m calling it a fic...)

Anyway, my position on this one is: Roxy/Calliope was a fine ship worth upholding, and I do not see any reason why anyone would be into John. Though I may be biased on that front.

Terezi also brings up the Calliope question. John is trepidatious on that front.

There’s an interesting line from Roxy here, when John tries to assure her she doesn’t have to wear makeup:

ROXY: john...

ROXY: do u ever think about like

ROXY: gender???

JOHN: ???

JOHN: uh. not really, i guess?

JOHN: but i don’t think girls should feel like they HAVE to wear makeup just because they’re girls.

ROXY: lol

ROXY: thats not what im getting at

JOHN: what do you mean then?

JOHN: are you, like...

ROXY: like what

This is where I’m conscious of the ‘trans character’ tag on this one.

They talk about adulthood, as a performance that they do not feel ‘ready’ for. At that point Dave shows up, clearly aflustered after Jade’s intervention:

DAVE: anyone can be a dude if they really want thats part of the beauty of living in this brand new world with none of the baggage our old world had like gender and sexuality and relationships only involving a very specific number of people

chapter 11

So yeah now to pick up the torch on Dave starting to understand he’s gay. here for this

DAVE: theres a metric fucking ton of shit about to come down on me because i dragged my heels on doing some serious self reflection

JOHN: is this just some more stuff about...

JOHN: being gay?

DAVE: maybe yeah

DAVE: ok definitely yeah

DAVE: its 110% about being gay

JOHN: i thought you’d already worked all that stuff out?

DAVE: turns out it takes a long time to figure out your sexuality after a childhood filled with repression and abuse

nice to see it named as such i guess

the dialogue in the last couple of chapters has been really good. i’m getting properly drawn into this, the characters feel extremely well-realised. threads which were long latent are finally being made explicit.

Dave is struggling with very abrupt self-realisation: he definitely has feelings for Karkat, he has complicated feelings for Jade, but the ‘simple’ solution of just entering a non-mono relationship both is not feeling ‘right’ to him. John isn’t really able to help... he’s gonna talk to Dirk.

This chapter does a lot, I really like it, but at the same time I’ve not got a tremendous amount to add to it.

chapter 12

in our latest chapter of ‘homestuck but they fuck now’, Jake and Jane did that - while up on various substances, including at least alcohol and the trickster lollipop. Jake is having second thoughts but when he tries to back out, Jane looks sad, so he decides to go for it. This can only end well.

Also damn I guess someone on the team thought ‘what would it be like to fuck while high on the trickster lollipop’ so uh, that’s a thing now.

chapter 13

Back to the Strider boys. There’s a heavy intro...

Dave and Dirk don’t talk that much about the heavy stuff. They don’t need to. Dave can hear his brother’s voice in his head.

Not, like, literally. That would be insane. But Dave knows what his bro is like. Dirk, or a version of him, instilled in Dave a way of living and thinking that would, for better or worse, persist far beyond the first thirteen years of his upbringing.

Yeah huh.

Can’t believe Rose and Kanaya have the dubious honour of being the most ‘together’ characters in this.

Anyway in this case Dave still feels like he needs to talk to Dirk - who we know has gone awol, for some mysterious reason. He meets... Gamzee, who says some religious clown stuff, and offers Dave a redemption arc (really running this joke into the ground huh), but Dave brushes him off. Then he finds a fembot that Dirk was working on, with a note.

We don’t get to read the note yet. I would guess that’s the end of epilogue 2.

Sure enough it is.

Epilogue 2, taken as a whole

I quite enjoyed this, Gamzee sections notwithstanding. The prose is tight, the dialogue is hitting its flow, and a lot of relationships that were left vague in Homestuck proper are finally being given time to develop.

Obviously it’s kind of risky bringing in explicitly sexual themes, but I think they approach them in the ‘right’ way: focusing on the emotional meaning of relationships that now might - now we’re dealing with 23-year-olds - include sex, rather than just porn lol. It does slightly strain credibility that, in all their time on Earth C, none of them have made any meaningful friendships or relationships outside the core group of 8 kids and a handful of surviving trolls, but I can also understand the desire to focus on the already-developed characters. That’s a common problem for ‘endgame’ ships: in truth dating exclusively within a tiny friendship group is probably a recipe for disaster, but in fiction it makes a work manageable.

I am enjoying just how gay Homestuck has gotten. If Homestuck is the comic for Very Online kids who were around 13 in 2009 when the comic began, it’s somewhat fitting, because our cohort has, at least to a degree, done the same thing lol. Of course, that’s shaped by my personal experience of like, transitioning and moving to a friendship group that’s like 99% trans lesbians and bi women, but I suspect statistics would bear out the idea that more and more people are comfortable identifying ourselves as not-straight in some way. I could be wrong about that though lol.

Of course, it’s too much to hope that this trend - insofar as it exists! - is like, the beginning of the end for Gender as a system of social relations, violent exploitation and coercion - especially since periods of ‘more acceptance’ often seem to precede violent repression (c.f. Weimar Germany and then, the nazis; the period just before the AIDS crisis; much earlier, the construction of colonial/modern gender in the first place on the bones of less rigid gender systems...)

Anyway, let’s see what’s happened to old Dirk. I’m still wondering who the “trans character” is going to be, and how they’re going to handle that. It’s going to be tough to match fic like @rememberwhenyoutried‘s An Earth-Shattering Confession, but we shall see.

Hi I see a lot of posts like this and I want to make a response because I'm weary it's going to become a trend among younger users or impressionable scared to not come off as woke teens who use tiktok or twitter too,

Because while Tumblr can be awesome there are still confusing moralities in people and nobodys perfect nor figured out on whats going on all the time. We all make mistakes in judgement

So lets clarify first what this post means.

It is targetting a fandom in particular.

Humanized Countries.

Specifically Countryhumans.

What is The Countryhumans Fandom?

Countryhumans is a fandom of Humanized Countries, all with histories, backstories according to their Country politics, Orgins, and opinions according to their people with certain exceptions in personality as seen fit. This is done to every Country.

First, here are some dislcaimers to be known to those new to discussing heavy topics:

Portraying heavy subjects is not an agreeance of it. Pretending it is to shut them up from using cartoons or art in a fashion as Countryhumans is *capable of*, is a form of censorship that allows the privledged that do not suffer the ongoing issues of it roam free without ever having to feel uncomfortable. And therefor censors and erases voices of those who use Countryhumans, OCS, or even other Fandoms in general to sort of bring and shine light to minorities and their causes to make it easier to understand in some form of media that offers *representation*. Lets say,

Maus, for example is a good form of media representation. (Maus is a Comic series by a Jewish Author going through the damages of the holocaust in the form of mice. Would do more looking into it yourself however if I receive questions I am able to provide more sourced links over what I have talked about.)

So what is the problem here?

In theory, Countryhumans sounds capable of awesome things and bringing a community together for learning opportunities.

However, the Countryhumans fandom has never been perfect. Historical innaccuracies, hellspawn circles of strange, "Im cringe and embracing it cuz I just wanna have fun uwu" mindsets of also sex roleplay and its ""potential""(trust me I have been there and have those ex friends) in ""sexual exploration"",

When in reality it:

Disrespects millions of people who live there,

Puts no actual careful effort into proper research, and Violates everything the Country stands for,

Wastes the potential behind the concept of Countryhumans in the first place, and actually doing things correctly, using it educationally to spread awareness, or have fun politically and historically actually learning new things with accuracy that it is capable of.

(^^^ Same harm also caused by stereotypes.)

And pretty much is misinformation, sexualization(wrongfully so. There has to be limits and sexualization is a big problem.)

HERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THAT,

Not everyone in the Fandom is like that. There are genuine, well spirited, educated, trying their best Countryhumans content creators and fans that have generally wanted in a sense, to bring educated, well mused, entertaining, and resourceful content with backed up entertainment sources and genuinity to textbook source material and more,

HOWEVER,

they get drowned out by stereotypers, sexualizers, and bigots who leave careless means of content without realizing the affects of how Countryhumans if to be persued out of concept should actually be treated with care and respect and carefully as history is complicated at times and should be portrayed accurately if we are going to make charicatures of it.

Many people tend to even as a (researchable) survival instinct focus more on the bad.

Further drowning out those who are trying to do well in this fandom.

While I appreciate the OP clarify "racists in the community in specific" I saw a post earlier in particular who may have inspired this post by calling EVERYBODY in the fandom racist, instead of realizing there are racists and non-racists capable of associating with the fandom and nobody who may enjoy Countryhumans are always so responsible or capable of stopping said toxicity so easy.

Which makes it feel the OP may ALSO come from a place of Bias.

That being said.

The anti Countryhumans fans actually also happen to be A LOT MORE toxic at times and thats very saddening because it doesnt really help drown out or wash away the toxicity within the fandom AT ALL, rather contributes to the unhealthy hostile environment of those who just want to research into humanizing Countries for the fun sake of learning, gathering a community in growth, and having a good time.

(We'll get back to this in the Bias factor discussed later.)

With the Bias factor showing up,

Countryhumans is not the only Fandom attacked, but its one that happens to be treated the worst in some cases.

Other Fandoms are Targetted. So what do I mean By That?

Well Interestingly enough, it was enough of a common phenomenon for somebody to make a video about it like THIS:

Saying all Countryhumans fans are racist are like saying

All Undertale fans are pedophiles who sexualize suicide because of that one creator who became popular who made "the sans AU" daycare,

Wasnt it funny that in 2017 people were heavily bullied for being in fandoms?

Oh wait.

This sort of all adds up doesnt it?

Its the common anti fandom behavior that appears because of something we'll also unpack in a bit, but that comes with the mob mentality part of things.

Another good example is saying stuff like "you're all cringe if you like this" or "DNI if you KIN THIS PERSON/ARE IN THIS FANDOM"

or saying all homestuck fans say slurs.

There may be problematic people in all fandoms and sure the fandom isnt for you in specific because all people have niche tastes and interests in specific places,

But we dont control the bad side of our fandoms. None of us do. Right?

You have interests, dont you, OP?

and anyone who stumbles upon this, all you users might feel insecure, or bullied for your interests, and that wasnt normal or ok to go through. The internet has a huge bullying problem I hope some choose to unpack in therapy.

But why would I say the Countryhumans fandom is more Attacked Than Other Fandoms?

A) it doesnt have a canon ground to stand on and is therefor in archeiac ruins (if you ask a fan in the fandon they wont tell you, but there IS secretly a bit of certain canon a lot of ppl abide by without saying it outloud but some of it has to be picked up as problematic and tossed away. If a general sense of community came forward to make canonic lore built on researched foundations, asking voices from Certain Countries, and so on, with corrections where needed and necessary; it could fix SO MANY problems the fandom has. And eliminate misinformation and the need so many have to be influenced by small creep groups within the fandom that dont represent the whole fandom saying its fine and uwu to do whatever.)

B) Countryhumans took all it knew from the influences of Hetalia and Countryball and if those source materials werent so bigotted and problematic to raise quite a few of its fans in the first place Countryhumans would have turned out a lot better but nobody wants to admit that since everybody sees Countryballs as ""classic"", not many actually care what Hetalias doing despite the whole anime being problematic to the point the fans avoided the canon to make their own at most, and everybody wants to propagate Propaganda against Countryhumans being scum specifically like they did to every fandom through the popularization of cringe culture because it makes them feel better?

C) Is the normalization of cringe culture and lack of understanding the depths of concepts being ok and others persuing it in a non problematic manner when others fail to not be bigotted and both being different side of the fandoms too complicated and gone too far for some, apparently? Is that the culprit?

Is it all of the above?

Yeah, it is. It is all of the above.

Speaking of bullying problem,

Lets get to the next section.

Mob Mentality.

Twitter is specifically VERY good at it but allow me to find like two videos on the subject.

Lets start with the Drama Cesspool of any Community.

Covered by the Experienced Ex-Mentality of a cringe psych who never gave anything they didnt like the benefit of the doubt to understand why others liked what they didnt and coming to terms with "to each their own",

This can be applied to Fandoms.

Fingers are pointed,

Everyone attacks something to look cool without looking at the complicated sides of it, and therefor apathizing and only paying attention to factors that support your view you get so caught up and stuck in the ignorance of only validating yourself you never pay attention to anything else.

It becomes a mob mentality. And those seeking validation who turn to you without any other sense of community might grow to hating stuff with you. Because you dont want to feel thrown out.

It goes to the mental gymnastics of demonizing, self patronizing justice, and never providing proper context to support yourself only and make others look bad.

Controlled context is censorship.

When I say propagated bias against fandoms is real I mean it. Especially how harshly DEFEANING the judgement of being hated for liking something you get.

The reason this Bias is higher against Countryhumans is how COMPLICATEDEDLY DIFFERENT that Fandom Currently IS.

Yet people see it through this unfair lens of this standard of things it doesnt have, while ignoring the good it DOES have.

Because that ignorance supports what they WANT to see, not the truth of what is fully happening. There can be problems without throwing it all away to work on, instead of also attacking everyone with anything to do with it.

And while I have nothing else to start with and have made my piece, I shall try to find that other video I cannot for the life of me and edit onto here soon.

In Conclusion for Now, However.

What do we Do now?

Support your local friends who are non-problematic in the Countryhumans Fandom.

However, DEFINITE DNI for problematic bigots within any Fandom; Including the Countryhumans Fandom.

yes!! i have many, so i tried to make it easier for you to navigate :)

L O N G post ahead of you, covering lecture notes and readings notes, from a college senior :)

lecture notes:

i suggest using a notebook and pen, physically writing down. it’s easier to study, and since it’s using your body, you have a much higher retention rate on your side than if you use a laptop.

i have used my laptop for taking notes before. it’s easier to take more notes, word for word, but that’s not always helpful. maybe that’s your style, especially if you enjoy rewriting your notes all pretty and more successfully when you get home. i am not that girl.

more notes does not always equal better! it’s good for you to listen actively, selecting what is important and what is not. i take very thorough notes. i take a lot of notes. if you need notes for a missed class, i. am. your. girl. that doesn’t mean i write out everything word for word. selecting details, clauses, and images really helps me to not only keep up, but also to memorize later. plus, when you’re typing, it’s easier to type all the words out without really processing the whole meaning. remember that dense notes are harder to study

finally, when you write by hand, you can get more creative with your style. occasionally, i’ll web notes out from one, rather than a traditional outline, bc it makes more sense for the topic

it also helps my anxiety! so much! if i force myself to take great in depth notes, then my mind has to dedicate more brain space to the task at hand than to my anxieties.

stick to one of these though. it really sucks to get into a test and realize you didn’t study half of your notes bc you forgot half were on your laptop. it’s awful lol.

if you use a laptop, get used to how it works first. do u know how much i resent trying to switch from a bullet that is under other bullets (like this one, not filled in) to a main point bullet (the ones filled in). it can be so confusing. also make sure you use a program you like. you can take directly into documents, but i find that i really love evernote, as i can make notebooks for classes, stacks of notebooks for my college, and that i can tag notes with specific classes and topics.

if you’re on paper, for fuck’s sake, divide your notebook into sections for classes. keep it all together. those notebooks with handy dandy dividers are so helpful, and they keep you from carrying around 5 notebooks at once.

i wouldn’t worry too much about highlighters and such in class. there’s just so much going on then. save highlighting and color coding for later, and count it as studying.

don’t worry about traditional outlining styles, with roman numerals or whatever. i take notes very simply. bullets/dashes, subnotes under a broad note.

do it how it makes sense to you! maybe that includes different bullet styles, different places for different types of information (on a simple level, i start writing chapter numbers and titles as far to the left as i can go, over the margins, in bold and capital letters. i also usually go over these later in a certain color marker)

in some classes it is helpful for me to write the topic along the top of the page in a highlighter (color coding is lovely) the main idea/topic for each page. the classes this was most obviously helpful in were astronomy (COMETS or BLACKHOLES etc) and shakespeare (MUCH ADO ACT 2 or ROMEO etc)

it’s easiest to just note page numbers of referenced complex diagrams, as they are usually in your reading or accessible online

your style might look different in each class. whatever works.

note everything (everything) your professor writes on the board. if it’s important enough for your professor to write it, it’s probably important enough for you to write it.

note examples only if it’s helpful for your memory. however, make light note of things like famous people and their science/psych experiments. but in math and such, note! the! examples! and! reasons! will help you so much.

examples that have emotion, imagery, or sound are going to be more helpful. applicable examples are most helpful. good professors will lecture you accordingly. lazy ones will not.

star anything that the professor stresses or hints will be tested. anything that they say is a major theme or whatever.

note main ideas/points/themes, definitions, conclusions,

use your tests to help you figure out what you need to know. ask questions about the tests too. in every class i’ve taken, i’m totally shocked at how willingly people ask about exam format and how willingly the professor will tell us how it will work. they want you to succeed.

people learn differently! i suggest taking notes in class and later adding touches that help you. count it as study time too. a warm up, if you will.

if you’re visual, this might include highlighting, color coding, drawing diagrams, etc.

if you’re an auditory learner, reading the notes out loud and organizing them accordingly, as well as making up rhymes, rhythms and such, might help you. some auditory learners actually like to record lectures and listen to them later.

if you learn best through movement, rewriting or making flashcards will be great for you.

sometimes professors go really. fuckin. fast. why. idk? but

dont be afraid to ask them to go back a slide bc i guarantee, you will be the class hero for asking

develop a little bit of shorthand. sometimes i end up using initials, arrows, abbreviations… this is where i got “bc” and “thru” and “u” and such. lol. also, list things vertically, rather than using commas and “and/&/+) it’ll be more clear later

some professors you literally cannot take notes on. it sucks. you’re going to need to do the readings and pick their brains on how the test will be to figure out how to prepare. take home tests are your best friend. thank god for them. seriously. get your butt to church and do some worshipping.

if your professor puts powerpoints online, save the powerpoints, ya never know.

look at inspiration if you want, but remember that notes on studyblr are usually copied from class notes. if you’re too focused on how pretty your notes are, good luck to you

finally, the day before an exam, i review my notes that i have (hopefully) been studying. i like to make a one page cheat sheet / study guide on everything i didn’t remember, leaving out everything i understand, memorized, or want to disregard.

reading notes:

ima be real and tell you i hardly ever do reading unless i will be tested on it in class in multiple choice. and im an english student. ye i suck, i know. i dont condone shirking the system but u know what, reading shakespeare or 18th century lit literally makes me want to kill myself. so, im a senior in college, and have barely ever done the reading for a class. the thing is, if you do it right, anything is better than just reading the words on the page and not getting the meaning. dont be a reading zombie. read actively, even if it’s not the actual reading. doing this, i have a 3.9 gpa. so. there’s hope for us yet.

first of all, yall need to do your damn reading. idc how. but due to the fact that a test will be multiple choice, essay answer, a presentation, or a paper, you’re going to not love pulling nothing out of your ass. can be done tho. just be fake deep.

that being said, i’m writing a lot below, but the reality is that if it’s lit, your notes dont have to be longer than a sentence. if it’s a textbook, more.

the same formatting question comes into play here, except it’s should you take notes in your book or in a notebook?

listen i’m always going to be pro notebook, pro physically writing it out as it helps me really get the information into my head, rather than more passively highlighting

i tend to do both, if im willing to mark up a book. i underline and highlight things that stick out to me, and i write them down as well. sometimes when reading literature/essays, if i know the contextual/meaning notes will be interesting to me later, i will copy notes both into my notebook and also less in depth onto post it notes (which also make sweet little flashcards btw), which i will stick into the passage. this is so helpful when a) im reading it again later and b) when we are discussing a passage in class

buy used books. it’s cheaper. until it happens to u, u do NOT UNDERSTAND how EXCITING it is to get a book that has highlights and underlines in it ALREADY. DUDE. my work is basically DONE for me. now take that lightly, bc often different ppl will highlight different pieces of information. however, it is helpful.

look up summaries. do not simply rely on cliffsnotes and sparknotes, esp since professors are very aware of these. google “title of book, summary, chapter notes, whatever youre looking for” and use the blog posts, the book reviews, the papers that come up. does this method probably take a bit longer? maybe? but it’s easier on my tired brain.

if you don’t have time to read your textbook one day and really want to, read the introduction and the conclusion to the chapter, or the first and last sentences to the paragraphs. it’s not great, but it’s something.

like your lectures, note definitions, conclusions, and helpful examples, as well as people and dates. if i’m reading literature and i’m deciding to be a smart student i will keep several logs as well. these logs will make it so. easy. to study for your exam:

updated character lists, including name, relationships, and anything defining and important

scene/chapter summaries, just a sentence summarizing what happened where

any quotes or themes that stand out

i highly highly highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of the well educated mind for note taking on a range of genres. this is what i had to use through high school and while it’s involved, it’s incredibly helpful.

if you’re going to have to cite your notes, note the page number in the margin every time you flip the page

the biggest issue i have with reading is when and where to do it. before or after class? always ask your professor if they do not tell you. where in your notebooks? i always do it on the next blank page bc leaving space stresses me the fuck out. make notes on the top of your pages of corresponding lectures/readings.

for both lectures and readings i really really really suggest either having something to drink or something to snack on (think fruit, loose nuts, m&ms. small loose things rather than things u bite? idk they just last longer?)

okay i hope this was somewhat helpful even tho it’s an incredibly longwinded post. it seems like a lot, but the reality is that while i take a lot of notes, i don’t make them complicated, i don’t have rules, i just do what feels right in the moment. they’re not at all stressful. just take it easy and do whatever works for you :)

my favorite scene is probably the one with calen and folen. i think they add a lot of dynamic to camellia since before she was just grumpy tea witch. now shes grumpy tea witch with a past. plus i really loved that appearance change because just so many questions. tea party host plot twist: i actually hate tea. long live the coffee witch.

Funny thing about tea for me. I don't like hot tea. I definitely don't like iced tea. I'll tend to drop an ice cube into tea shortly before drinking it (it melts, admittedly diluting) to split the difference.

[ ? ] What does pay what you want mean? [ A ] Pay what you want (pwyw) means that, beyond a minimum, you can pay whatever you want for the commission! The minimums are listed on the sheet, and anything above that isn't necessary, but greatly appreciated! If an item says 1+ kofi, you must pay at least one kofi, but you can add more if you're feeling generous! [ ? ] What is a kofi? [ A ] Ko-fi is a website that allows you to support your favorite creators, a bit like a way to tip them by "buying them a coffee"! A 'kofi', as I call them, is each unit of support you give an artist ($3US). There is of course a small chunk taken from each kofi, so the artist doesn't get the full $3 (just something to bear in mind). You can give as many kofis at once as you'd like, hence these commissions being pwyw so you can give whatever you feel like giving! [ ? ] Are these all the options you have for commissions? [ A ] These are primarily just examples of things I've done consistently in the past! If you have a more 'custom' idea, we can certainly discuss it! I've been doing pixel art for about 3.5 years, so I have some decent experience, but like every artist I have limits to my current abilities. You can see both my Tumblr and DeviantArt galleries for more examples, including the options for the line styles, animations, and shading! [ ? ] What ARE all those options under the examples? [ A ] Hard lines means the piece will have "hard", solid black lines between each "section" of the piece: the outline, and between all the different colors, etc. Lineless means that rather than having that solid black line, I use a slightly darker shade of each color to outline them, like the fullbody dragon! This gives it a softer, 'lineless' look. Cell shading means that there's just one color used to shade, rather than a blend. The Kakashi doll on the far left has cell shading: just one color in a hard shape. Smooth shading means what it sounds like: a few colors are blended from dark to light to make the shadows smoother! I do a few very basic animations for certain dolls or icons when requested. Typically this refers to a one-pixel "bob", and a blink cycle. I can also have a doll open its mouth and bring up a small speech bubble if you'd like them to say something! Please bear in mind that animation takes additional time and effort, and though not required, additional support is appreciated for animated pieces! [ ? ] Why are there things you refuse to draw? [ A ] For the most part, it's simply a matter of preference. For others, it's a matter of ability. Some things are just a bit too complex for me to feel I can pull it off in a fashion consistent with the rest of my work, and therefore being worth your money! Hence a limit on complex poses and the number of characters per shot, or complex designs, like mecha. Other things like the ship limitations are just personal preferences that make me uncomfortable. The NSFW ban is mostly due to most hosting sites not liking to host mature artwork...and also a matter of both my ability, and personal preference. [ ? ] What constitutes NSFW? [ A ] For me, this includes any nudity that shows genitals - nipples and / or breasts are fine. This also includes anything sexual, including any and all fetishes, even if genitals are not shown. I also do not do heavy gore. I may expand this umbrella term if anything not already covered comes up! [ ? ] I can't afford a commission, but I'd like to help! What can I do? [ A ] You can share this comm sheet and / or my art with your friends! Getting the word out might mean finding someone able and willing to order a comm, which of course is a big help! Let the War Games Begin (part 1)

“Let the war games begin!” shouted an annoying voice in our head phones. Starting up the tank i nudged it into full gear. A quarter of my team was staying behind at the watcher tower since this game was between me and the seniors. Oh where are my manners? You don’t know how this all started. I am a freshmen at the most Pristine High School military academy. I have 6 friends at school who have all had their part in building our team tank which was build on pure theory. Without them i wouldn’t have figured out how to have an engine that ran off dark matter radiation and produced no sound or pollution. Oh my, i got off track. I was supposed to be telling you about how the grudge match between me and the senior jocks started. Well here we go.

Lunchtime 3rd week of school: me and my friends were all sitting outside discussing what the flaws and the strengths of our tank when i see the senior class president forcefully dragging his sophomore girlfriend around the corner of the school. The whole school knew that she was only with him because her father though he was the best person to give him strong grandsons. Jason then starts screaming into Allaire’s face. I heard most of the insults he was throwing at her and I was now completely distracted and getting very angry. I suddenly feel a hand on my shoulder. It was Dalli a wonderfully smart girl from south india who i had given my full ride scholarship to and that i have known since i was 8. “Go on tiger go save the bunny rabbit.” she said with a smile for she alone knew when my kindness stopped.

I stand tall at six foot flat and start walking towards Jason and Allaire. His buddies try to stop me but they were easy to drop. I reach the two just in time to catch jason’s wrist and hand an inch allaire face. “There are 4 things you've got wrong here.” i said as i twist his arm into a chicken wing. “One you are all up in her face screaming when you can sit down like a man and talk to her about what's wrong. Two, the insults you were vomiting up at every chance you could had no connection to each other in any sensible way even my drunk father wouldn’t be able to make sense of why you are angry. Third you raised your fracking hand to a woman. Lastly you attempted to hit her. I am disgusted to be in the same school, gender, or skin colour as you ya dirt bag.” i bent him forward and threw him into the school hog pen “that's where you belong.” I said as dust off my hands, walk over to Allaire and smile ever so sweetly. “Are you alright?” I asked. She was still staring in shock as to the fact a freshman stood up to the valedictorian of the senior class.

“Uh? Oh. Yeah i'm alright. Would you walk me to my teams workshop?” she asked looking over at jason who was covered in…let's just say it wasn't pleasant and neither was the smell.

“Certainly.” i said buying her a to go lunch on the way passed a concession. We talked on the way there she was mostly asking about my scars and how i got them then blushing when i told her. “Well here we are.”

“Hey thanks for what you did back there.” she looks up and down the hall then kisses my cheek. “Oh also do you not have a team? I never see you around the workshops.”

“That's because my team’s work was debunked by the school so we do it off school grounds and with our own money.”

“Why is that?” she asked with a slight tilt of her head. It was kinda cute. Okay it was very cute.

“Because the headmaster told us that our theories were heresy and that no heretic tank was going to be built with his school’s money. So we moved off campus and use our own money to built our tanks. We also have a match in 2 days.”

“I thought that there could only be one tank per team?” she asked putting a finger to her chin.
