Nimona headcanons plus little bonus part 2 electric boogaloo
After Nimona found out about Ambrosius' allergies they demanded to test every single meal he eats
They’ll take the plate away from him and have a test bite and only after they deem it “safe” will they let him eat it
Doesn’t matter if they're out eating or at home she does this every time
He can literally say “Nim Bal made this for me it’s not gonna have anything I’m allergic to” and she’ll respond with “You don’t know that he could finally be sick of you and the only thing saving you is me”
Ambrosius and Bal will share literally everything they eat
Whenever they go out they’ll usually order something they know they’ll both like
And if they know the other one is between two options they’ll just order one of the options and share both meals
It’s a pretty normal thing that they’ve been doing since they were kids so they don’t even question it anymore
Nimona jokingly calls it sickening as she steals food off their plates
No one in the trio is neurotypical
Bal is autistic Ambrosius has ADHD Nimona is a mix of both
Talking to these dorks is absolute hell
It’s kind of like the interrogation scene except it’s not one topic
They often get sidetracked and lose the plot of the conversation
They’ll have 10 different conversations at once and only finish like 5
Bal forgets a whole bunch of shit because he has long-term brain damage and Nimona and Ambrosius forget shit cause of the ADHD
It’s not uncommon for someone to say “Hey remind me to” and then they’ll be cut off by the other person who just says “You know I won’t remember that just put a reminder in your phone”
Their house is covered to the brim in sticky notes and random pieces of paper for reminders
The grocery list is on the front door the chore list is in the kitchen and random little tasks are scattered around the house
When Nimona doesn’t want to do something he’ll just erase his name from that task
He fooled the boys for a while but Bal started keeping score of who did what and when and called his sneaky ass out
Little bonus part 2 electric boogaloo: this time it’s my sister and my mama and my sister also was acting like I was killing her firstborn not asking her to watch a movie
Me: “look mama it’s the siblings” my sister: “but they’re gay” me: “yeah but people thought they were siblings” my sister: “if you ever look at me like that I’m calling the cops” (the scene on the catwalk)
“Yeah you better cheer” (when Bal was getting knighted)
“I knew something was wrong with the sword” “So did Bal” “Yeah but I knew first”
Apparently both my Mama and my sister didn’t know that Ambrosius cut off Bal’s arm so I got to see both of their reactions
This was my Mama’s “damn what happened to being a lover not a fighter” “he’s a knight Mama” “Who cares!!”
This was my sister's “Wow really took the whole arm huh?” “That’s how they were trained” “And?”
My mama was talking to my sister when Nimona met Bal “Who does that remind you of?” “Roo” “Exactly”
“Oh look it’s tiny dick!” (Talking about Todd)
“What a fucking bitch” (when she found out the director swapped the sword)
This was when Bal and Ambrosius were fighting Me: “Is there anything gayer than having an argument in the middle of a sword fight” My mama: “They’ll fight with their other swords later”
“Who fucking asked” “bla bla bla I’m a racist bitch” (when the Director went on her monologue in the office)
She saw Ambrosius’ username and laughed for like two minutes straight
After the sword fight my sister would pretend like Bal and Ambrosius were making out every time they were on screen together
“Because I love you *making out noises*” at the tavern
“Oh there’s their third wheel (Todd)” “Nah he’s racist as fuck” “Who isn’t in the institute?”
When Ambrosius tried to stop the director she said this is what he meant “No you can’t set off the laser that’s my kid!” (She believes the trio is a family too)
“Awe they’re hugging *more making out noises*”
She called it cute in the end and I made fun of her for bitching about it
I asked my sister who her favorite is and she says “what’s his name balls?” I started cackling my ass off and she goes “I’m joking I know his name is Ballister and he’s still my favorite”

hello can you please elaborate on your nimona post about movie ballister vs book ballister? would love to hear more if possible !
Yeah sure!
So, the post was something like "movie!Ballister who only saw Nimona as a monster for a second ,which almost killed her VS. book!Ballister who refused to ever saw Nimona as a monster, which almost killed her"
I turned the sentence that way to accentuate the "mirror" effect but the situations are actually very different
I'm gonna assume you (or anyone else reading the post) have both seen the movie and read the graphic novel, so of course this post will contain spoilers for both, which will be under the cut
Also if it doesn't answer your question please ask for precisions ^^
So, let's start with the movie, since I think it's the first one most people saw first and because it's the easiest to explain
It's pretty transparent I think, in the movie everyone see Nimona as a monster, they don't even know her but still believe she's evil and should die just for existing. "Monster" is a deshumanizing term, it's violent, and she rightfully hate being called one. Ballister, as everyone does, start by being frightened by her, but he get over his bias and end up seeing her as she is: just Nimona
But then Ambrosius bring him the scroll, and he doubt for a second, for a second he think she's really a monster and she really killed all those people (which she didn't, obviously) and Nimona see it, and she think that AGAIN her best friend only see her as a monster, she think that's all everyone will ever see in her, that she will ever be misunderstood and wished dead, and she tries to kill herself over it
The graphic novel is... less explicit about why exactly she tries to kill herself, and it's been a few months since I've read it last time, but I'll try to remember
In this version everything is much darker, every character is at least a little less of a good person, and for Nimona it means that she kills people. A lot. Nimona in the graphic novel fully start as a bad person and embrace this role. She likes killing and causing chaos, and is absolutely unapologetic about it. She still befriends Ballister who is also a little less of a good person, and doesn't care too much about people dying (he doesn't like it either, but it won't stop him from working with Nimona). They become close, they become friends, and along with Ballister we learn bits of Nimona's backstory, we learn about her traumas, we learn why she's like this and we also see that she can refrain her murder tendancy when asked to
The conflict between Ballister and Nimona start at maybe half the book, but it doesn't escalate into the whole... disaster that it does until the Institution captures her and try to experiment on her. To escape she splits in two, one part being her traumatized inner child, and the other being a violent manifestation of her pain, anger, sadness and rage. And the thing Ballister fail to understand, that he refuses to acknowledge at all, is that this dragon, this monster, IS Nimona. Sure it's not all that she is (which is what she pretend), but it is very much a part of herself, it's an inherent part of herself. She was made this way by years of abuse and trauma she never really tried to heal, she's violent because she's hurt. And while I think Ballister is partially right for refusing to believe her when she says it's her true self, that it always have, it doesn't really matter here because that's what she believes, that's how she see herself, and anyway it is a part of herself
And he refuses to accept it, and even ends up killing the dragon, partially because he didn't have much choice and, I think, partially because he still didn't saw it as a necessary part of Nimona
And then the inner child refused to go with him and prefers to stay alongside the dragon, even if it means dying with it
#i have... a lot of feelings about book!nimona#like they *made* her a monster‚ she wasn't always one but they made her one and she embraces it#it's not about her shapeshifting powers it's about her anger#(i mean they did saw her as inhuman due to her power but then they made her a monster)#and she thought ballister could understand bc he too was marginalized and called a monster#but at the end he wasn't as much damaged as she was‚ he was a villain‚ sure‚ but not a monster#nimona#ask

Nimona One-Shot 1
Ambrosius gulped. Something told him that the teen wouldn't exactly be thrilled to see him after she found out who he was related to. They'd all been made aware of Gloreth's betrayal of her.
As he made his way into the lair, there she was. The one person still alive who had actually met his many times great-grandmother and founder of the city.
"Golden-Boy." Nimona hissed out. Yep, she definitely knew. "You know, I thought in a thousand years, at least one of Gloreth's descendants would've questioned her word at some point. Yet, every single one grew up to become as small-minded and ignorant as her. If it wasn't so sad, it would be impressive. When I met and first started watching you, you were no different from them. You were no different than her. Then, you surprised me. Let's just say that it's...been a while since I was last surprised. By anybody. My boss, anyone else in the kingdom, and especially one of Gloreth's descendants."
Ambrosius didn't even know how to respond to that. "L-l-l-look, I know that you must feel...different about me and Bal, especially since you were there for all of the drama that's ever happened in our relationship."
Nimona nodded. "Sure, and personally, I tried to get him to leave you since you chopped off his arm. That was before I knew that you were descended from...her. Only because I was worried about him and the only person who seemed to be at that time."
"I believe that. Bal told me all of the things you both went through with and for each other." Ambrosius stated.
Nimona pursed her lips. "I suppose that you have questions. About your predescessors. About her... I'm trying to make an effort to be more open about it, as Boss requested."
Ambrosius sighed, internally chuckling at the nickname she called his boyfriend. "You do understand how I would be curious to talk to you since you've seen my lineage throughout the millennium."
Nimona gripped the table hard. "Yes, and although you surely understand why I don't like to talk about her, I'm remembering that you don't know any better, so ask away."
Ambrosius took a deep breath. Finally, he could get some answers. "How old was Gloreth when you met her?"
Nimona shrugged, an easy question. "I believe that she was six at the time, and in relative terms, so was I. I hadn't aged past that at the time, is what I mean. It was only a couple of years later that she pointed a wooden sword at me and uttered her famous line 'go back to the shadows from whence you came' for the first time. The next time I saw her was when we were grown up and she said it again, then a trained hero who was training others. It was also the last time that I talked to her as well, since the old instincts of protecting her still ran through me, despite everything. She'd long had children and raised them to hate me before her death. The cycle has continued until, well...you."
