i have a question:

i'm currently compiling my comprehensive exam reading list (i'm a phd student), and the field for this list includes Ukrainian cinema.

What are some more contemporary, fiction films (made in the 1990s to now) that you've particularly liked or is one that you'd recommend with no hesitation!

#like i have a list going #but i'm one of those people who forgets every ukrainian film that's ever been made whenever i'm asked about this #and if people have particular recommendations i'll definitely take a look !#also i can't look at documentaries for the main reason that one of my other exam fields is documentary and i can't have any overlap #for every film -- i have to find accompanying theoretical texts #and basically this list spans from like early dovzhenko...#through the 20th century #also comedies are welcome here (i have evge and my thoughts are silent so far on this list)#one aspect that shapes this list is how Russophone (soviet) cinema has depicted Ukrainians through an ethnographic lens #and how that cinematic gaze has grown out of colonialism #so hence there's quite a bit of soviet era films in there too
