in my mind these two scenes must be viewed as a whole. it's very very important to me that what pushes seth milchick into standing up for himself is witnessing two acts of transgressive kindness (in spite of his objections!) in a room in which there are no white people.

you see him see himself ("you're too soft on them") in miss huang's apology and acknowledgement of dylan's humanity. and you see the impact of dylan, who has no reason to be nice to either of them, choosing to make his last act of human interaction before dying an outreach of kindness towards an abused child. btw an abused child that milchick clearly sees his younger self in.

and that witnessing of kindness and miss huang's and dylan's moment of human connection & affirmation of each other's personhood is what drives him to stand up to drummond. compare this with every scene where he tried to reach out and make a human connection with natalie and she refused. and then see the connection to his behavior when he calls mark.

This season really said: reintegration is not a solution. You thought it would be the easiest thing to do: put back together what you tore apart. Guess what? It's not that simple. We're talking about different people now. Mark Scout lived ~40 years, Mark S barely 2. You created another human being and now you think you can control him.

This season really said: there are consequences to your actions. Not just as Lumon, but as an Outie too.

can we talk about how dylan g spent years relishing earning perks and taking pride in his work but didn't feel like he really had a life until he met gretchen. can we talk about how dylan g hoped his outie would be happy not only for gretchen but for dylan g because he (dylan g) is making her happy. can we talk about how dylan g made gretchen a ring out of the chinese finger trap that was once his most prized possession and offered it to her while begging her to let him have this life with her, begging her to agree that there was a life for the both of them down here, together. can we talk about how after gretchen left that dylan g finally understood why irving wanted to leave after burt retired. because if dylan g is gone, and gretchen is gone, then somehow they'll still be together. can we talk about that. can we fucking talk about that
