Fu Xuan X Qingque is fucking peak IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

Today I’m gonna yap about how underrated this absolutely incredible ship is, and why I love it, so sit back and enjoy because I have THOUGHTS. Also, thank you so much to @cosmicquilt on tumblr for providing me their own insight into it, as well as a place for me to begin, I really do appreciate it! 

Before I go in depth on them, I think their status as *package deal do not separate* is really funny and cute, and I’m surprised people don’t point it out more with just how obvious it really is.

Here’s some example’s I’ve collected (thank you quilt for the first two screenshots!) 

This is from the food event in 2.0, and to me it seems like Fu Xuan bought it out of curiosity, then Qingque had some and got messy because of it.

They are also together in the Penacony mural thing (just like Aventio hehe), and you can see Qingque reaching towards a gambling machine while Fu Xuan pulls her back, as if she predicted the other would immediately make a beeline towards the machines, and had to prevent that from happening. 

Today Is Another Peaceful Day is the name of the lightcone shared between them, whose description is quite comical.

Fu Xuan did infact find her again, she is angry and the sweets Qingque bought to placate her don’t seem like they are going to do much 😭.

Qingque also makes an appearance in Fu Xuan’s trailer, which only tends to happen when characters have an established close relationship or connection (like Dan Heng appearing in Blade’s)

Their team joining voicelines also match perfectly- in fact they tell a pretty funny story of yet another time Fu Xuan goes to look for Qingque, who’s supposedly slacking off again.

This also implies that Fu Xuan knows Qingque well enough at this point to guess accurately where she would be hiding and when she would leave, which is adorable and honestly really funny. 

Overall, on a surface level, their Looney Tunes dynamic is incredibly entertaining and endearing, making their relationship rather lighthearted and sweet. Girlboss X Girlfailure is always fun to watch and a personal favorite in ships for me is when one character has to deal with the other’s antics (you know who :3). I also think it’s a good way to set up a developing relationship, as they get closer and closer together each time they play this game of cat and mouse, which is something that is demonstrated by the game.

So, let’s look at them a little deeper now.

Within the quest, Omniscient Inquiry of Arcana, which is found within the main Xianzhou quest line, we see firsthand how much Fu Xuan actually trusts Qingque. 

Even if Qingque is often unreliable, Fu Xuan is not at all surprised that she is the one who helped bring the Nameless to her, as Fu Xuan knows she can bet on Qingque to come through with her responsibilities when she needs to.

The thing is, Qingque is lazy, but she is by no means incompetent, and gets all her work done on time. Moreover, Fu Xuan knows this better than anyone, especially considering she’s the one who has to go looking for Qingque when she slacks off 90% of the time (something which she doesn’t have to do, she could delegate someone else to do it yet every time Fu Xuan personally sees the matter done). 

So, even if Qingque is just a librarian, instead of fetching someone else to help, Fu Xuan also has her restart the base terminals for the Matrix of Presence, because she knows and trusts Qingque to be capable of it, almost without a second thought. 

Even if the task at hand isn’t particularly difficult, and Fu Xuan could easily do it herself, she lets herself be lazy and trusts Qingque to do so, as I will get into further, they are far more similar than Fu Xuan realizes.

In the quest line prior, Qingque also describes just how much she in turn believes in Fu Xuan, stating that even if the sky were to collapse, she could count of Fu Xuan attempting to hold it up- and she makes fun of Fu Xuan for being short despite being of similar stature.

A remark such as that illustrates how time and time again, Qingque has witnessed Fu Xuan put her all into protecting the Xianzhou and its people, which has earned Fu Xuan Qingque’s utmost respect, even if that doesn’t stop her from slacking off from time to time.

As funny as their dynamic is, the genuine trust they display in one another is heartwarming, and as much as they annoy one another (or really as much as Qingque bothers Fu Xuan with her antics), they truly do have faith in each other. Continually, Qingque’s awareness of the burden’s Fu Xuan has to carry slots her into a unique role of being one of the few people who could support her in a time of need.

Which is exactly what we get to witness in the Heliobi event.

Fu Xuan gets possessed and fire’s Qingque because of it, who isn’t too upset about it as admittedly her tendency to slack off was waisting her life. 

However, she attempts to give a speech to drag Fu Xuan out of her possession, attempting to mask it as her desire to not be fired disgracefully, but really she just wanted to break Fu Xuan out of the illusion. 

Unfortunately, Fu Xuan isn’t having it, and spouts a lot of stuff to the ghostbusting gang, expressing that her former attempts to change the Xianshou’s fate were futile, and that destiny is unavoidable and unchangeable, and that human’s desires to resist it are pointless.

Then, she makes the squad + QQ play a puzzle in which she controls all the outcomes, just to demonstrate how pointless the choices humans make, as they will always lead to the same result. To possessed Fu Xuan, choice is merely an illusion, a waste of time, and she cannot be convinced of it otherwise.

Until Qingque steps in. And perhaps the greatest demonstration of just how much she CARES for Fu Xuan plays out.

Qingque starts out by saying that the game Fu Xuan made them play is not an accurate representation of reality, and that the universe doesn’t have puzzles for them to solve. People have free will, and even if Qingque uses that will to slack off, those choices are still hers and still CHOICES. 

However Fu Xuan isn’t buying it, and this is when the core of why she was possessed in the first place gets revealed.

Qingque’s choices don’t have consequences, at least not far reaching as Fu Xuan’s do. But every action, every decision, every minute step in any direction that Fu Xuan takes could plunge the entire Xianzhou into chaos, and ruin EVERYTHING. 

So, Qingque proposes a new puzzle, hoping to be able to change Fu Xuan’s mind this time.

Qingque fails again this time, however Fu Xuan is starting to get an idea of what she’s getting and, and Qingque reiterates that there will always be more choices to make, even if the puzzles appear to only have one solution.

Therefore, she tries one last time.

Qingque shoves her own solution into the puzzle, her own way by drawing on the help of the ghostbusting squad, but still Fu Xuan cannot be convinced, believing instead that the thousands of different paths people take all lead to the same destination, so making choices is pointless.

However, that’s not what Qingque is getting at, and in perhaps the most heartfelt speech given in this game so far, she saves Fu Xuan, and demonstrates why her choices DO matter. Moreover, she does it in the most Qingque way possible- by explaining it through a comparison to Celestial Jade.

It’s not winning or the outcome that makes Celestial Jade fun, it’s the choices you get to make while you play it which is what makes it enjoyable. However, much like how even if the outcome of a game is predetermined, just because the universe’s destiny could be predetermined doesn’t mean people are aware of it, or that it even matters. Like in a game, in your life , you cannot control all the outcomes, but how you react to the twists and turns it throws your way, and the choices you make because of that, is what makes living worth it.

And if Fu Xuan’s choices didn’t matter, she wouldn’t be making them in the first place.  Perhaps she can’t prevent everything, and perhaps the universe really is weighted against her and the Luofu, but every day Fu Xuan makes decisions that help it stay around a little longer, that save a few more people, that buy a bit more time. The universe isn’t a game, and you can’t just determine your decisions to be meaningless because of some threatening ending that might never come to pass, and like Qingque says, Fu Xuan wouldn’t suffer the effort if what she works so hard for doesn’t mean anything. 

By reaffirming that destiny is an illusion, Qingque saves Fu Xuan and breaks her out of the Heliobi’s possession. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 

PROTECTIVE QINGQUE AAAAAARREAAAAA GRRRRRR TJEY ARE SO IN LOVE GRRRRR R SNANAKMZS AAAAAAA

Qingque tries to get out of work for good but Fu Xuan reminds her that Qingque reminded her that she had choices, and Qingque gets flustered and accepts her defeat.

What do you mean by that Fu Xuan, what do you mean by that, hmm? HMMM??? ELABORATE FU XUAN ELABORATE??? Sesbian lex???

So Qingque is in love with her boss and we all cheered, but don’t worry, and QQ also happens to get possessed by a Heliobus, and the way Fu Xuan behaves towards her is just as sweet and hilarious.

In her illusion, there’s a bunch of Fu Xuan clones who praise Qingque, much to the annoyance of Fu Xuan, who gets flustered and angry over it. Honestly I love just how many romance tropes that are displayed in their relationship, with this as a prime example. Like making a bunch of clones of your crush to praise you? Having Fu Xuan bear witness to exactly what makes Qingque happy (her praise)? The boss-employee dynamic getting reversed? I love it give me 500000. 

The nickname??? Oh you just know Qingque was waiting to call her that, infact she probably had it in her brain for a while, but just didn’t feel confident enough to do it in her previous power dynamic with Fu Xuan, so I wonder what else Qingque holds back from Fu Xuan because she doesn’t believe they are close enough for that.

What do you mean Fu Xuan is fussing over Qingque like a wife when her husband returns from war, what do you mean she goes, “As long as you’re okay,” then immediately is like “get back to work,” because she realized she was being too soft. What do you mean she fucking PATS QINGQUE ON THE HEAD AND LEAVES LIKE THAT???? 

I’m actually insane about this like how does nobody talk about them? The most peak relationship ever right there and I see NOTHING??? Like not only is it fucking hilarious with their game of cat and mouse they having going on with one another, but they truly just understand and adore each other even if both of them haven’t exactly realized it yet.

If I were to be 100% honest if you told me that speech Qingque gave to Fu Xuan in the Heliobi event was a confession one, then I would believe you because that was the most romantic shit ever. Like telling your companion in a time of need that their choices DO mean something and that they are such a capable individual whom everyone relies on, who YOU rely on?? If I was Fu Xuan I would have proposed right there I would have summoned up a ring I don’t care.

It’s just, I love relationships where two characters just GET one another inside and out, and FuQing is such a perfect example of it. Something about a trust that runs so deep that the two people who forged that bond don’t even realize it because of simply how long it’s persisted, like they’ve just acclimated to it because it’s been such a fixture of life for so long.

They are each other’s safety nets, and when one of them is in need, the other always delivers and UGHH IM INSANE ABOUT IT.

HOW DID THIS FLY UNDER PEOPLES NOSES??! HOW DID EVERYONE DO THE 1.5 EVENT AND NOT IMMEDIATELY START RUNNING LAPS AROUND THEIR HOUSE BECAUDE WHAT??? Literally that speech Qingque gives to Fu Xuan is one of my favorite scenes in the game, perhaps right behind the 1.6 Ratio-Screwllum scene and if you know me then you know how absolutely bonkers I am about that scene. It’s just so earnest and funny and it encapsulates the themes of HSR perfectly, with Qingque reiterating the overarching theme of the game: Trailblazing, ie moving forward with life no matter the destination (destiny), as it’s the choices you make along the way and the journey you take that matters.

Moreover, that’s what makes it so fucking good; it meshes perfectly with the overall story of the game. Despite how busy both of them are, despite how they often have higher priorities or could just go to other people or whatever, Qingque and Fu Xuan consistently choose one another, for both the most trivial and the most dire of situations. 

The road ahead for the Xianzhou is uncertain, but no matter how the path twists, Qingque and Fu Xuan will travel it side by side, and for that I will always adore them.

Thank you so much for reading! I fear I couldn’t be as intelligent about why I love this ship as I wanted to be, but I hope you at least got the idea a little bit haha. Maybe I’ll be able to me smarter about them one day but for now all my thoughts about them circle back to incoherent screaming. Honestly it’s probably because I like their dynamic far more than I like their characters standalone, so I can’t really bring that into the discussion, but perhaps with time I will be able to add onto this. For now though, all I’m hoping for is the wedding they deserve lol.

Adrien would like to think Christmas is his favorite time of year, and usually, it is. (or... i wanted to go off that theory that adrien was so terrified of marinette when she wore that cowboy hat in 'psycomedian', like he fully flinched, crazy right?)

I hadn't thought of this, but it does make sense that Adrien might have an aversion to people wearing cowboy hats due to being traumatized by Colt. He and Felix liked to switch places, after all.

I like how Felix showed some vulnerability to Adrien and even tried to comfort him after the experience, it was really sweet!

Félix pulls the tissue paper out and squints at what’s inside. It’s— a plushie? He takes it out of the bag to get a better look at it. All of the air is stolen from his lungs the second he does. A rabbit plushie. A white rabbit plushie. (Or for Félix’s next birthday, Adrien teams up with Marinette to make Félix a rabbit plushie, much like the one he had as a kid. Old feelings Félix thought he buried return in full force.)

I loved seeing a potential backstory to the torn stuffed bunny we saw in the play in Representation, and Felix's reaction to getting another rabbit plush was heart-wrenching!

I like the conversation Nathalie and Felix have here. They don't like each other (or well, Felix doesn't like Nathalie, Nathalie is just ambivalent about him), but they come to an understanding. It's interesting to see Nathalie's viewpoint on life and killing, and hear allusions to the things she was up to before she became Gabriel's secretary.

His eyes dart to Argos but thankfully, he doesn’t turn around. Félix shoots Adrien a look to lower his voice and thankfully, his cousin listens. “You think we can’t trust him?” “He has the Peacock Miraculous.” Félix points out. “He’s from the future.” Adrien counters. “And Future Chat Noir trusts him so… Maybe we can trust him too?” (Or Chat Noir and a Peacock Hero from a decade in the future end up in the past and save their past selves. Félix is wary of whoever this ‘Argos’ is.)

I love time travel fics. Felix being really wary of the Peacock hero's deliciously ironic, something that Argos realizes and he doesn't. While Adrien's just happy to see his future self and completely trusts what Chat tells him. I loved how Argos was put out when he realized why his past self is afraid of him and trying to reassure him as best he can without giving away spoilers.

To Felix, Chat Noir is freedom. Pure freedom, unhindered by anything (well, except perhaps a little too much dedication to Ladybug). He goes where he pleases when he pleases. He acts so ridiculous, like no one was ever watching, even when everyone was watching. He chafes at orders and authority, even when the orders are coming from Ladybug herself. He's free to be whoever he wants, in a way Felix only wishes he could be. So of course he starts flirting with the catboy. It also doesn't hurt that the superhero is easy on the eyes. Chat Noir, meanwhile, is simply trying to figure out how to reject his cousin without revealing his own secret identity. But when has anything in his love life ever worked out for him? Or, in other words: Somehow the Fathom-Graham de Vanily-Agreste family becomes even more dysfunctional in brand new ways.

This was fun, I liked the natural way Chat caught Felix's attention with his kindness, wit, and hidden depths. It makes sense why Felix would slowly develop a crush on him, while Chat just thinks that he's having fun with his cousin.

Also Chat's reaction when he realizes that Felix is, in fact, confessing his crush on him, is just priceless XD.

I love time loop fics, and this is no exception. Felix somehow gets trapped in a time loop with Adrien where no matter what he does, Adrien always dies by the end of the day by some manner, and then everything resets. I love how inevitable it all feels, the strange beauty to the prose when going over his deaths, and how you can feel Felix's increasing desperation throughout it all.

I love Adrien just having run away, used a fake name, and then start working at a random cafe. Of course Felix still manages to track him down eventually. I loved seeing them talk things out!

The more time a sentibeing spends away from their amok, the weaker that connection becomes. In time the magic of the amok, desperate to keep that connection, will move to an item that the senti is closer to. Adrien's amok is empty, and Felix and Duusu are on a frantic search to find the new item before someone else can get their hands on it. Without letting Adrien know any of this is going on, of course.

I really loved the concept of this fic, with the Amok moving, and seeing Felix's perspective was a treat! Especially with which item he suspected held the Amok. The senticousins' dynamic is always interesting to watch.

Now it’s Félix’s turn. Adrien needs to know about his own existence before anything else and Félix wanted to have that conversation himself. Marinette didn’t argue when he told her as much. If anything, she seemed slightly relieved. Félix has been meaning to do it for a long time. Adrien had been at risk if he said anything before, not to mention it felt cruel to tell him when he would still have to bend to his father’s orders until the rings were retrieved. But Adrien wears his own amoks now, making his own choices with no one forcing him to do any of it. All physical risks are out of the way. Félix only needs to break it to him. The problem is that it never seems to actually be the right moment. (Or Post Season 5, Félix finally has the chance to tell Adrien about both of them being sentibeings and their family history. He’s not quite sure why his words keep failing him whenever he tries though.)

I love the analysis of Felix's thoughts and feelings about being a sentibeing, the psychological hangups that are preventing him from telling Adrien everything. I especially like how he doesn't even seem to realize HIMSELF what his problem is. Few people are able to really understand why they're reacting the way they are, why they feel the way they do, without either some deep examination or talking to someone.

I loved seeing Felix's and Adrien's relationship here, they act a lot like siblings XD. Adrien's just a ray of sunshine while Felix is a grumpy cat, though he loves Adrien dearly. I love seeing Felix try out the catsuit, and also realize how VERY close his cousin is with Ladybug - and how good a sense she has for him. He's a good actor, but he didn't have time to fully study up on this role.

Mum waits expectantly, as if expecting him to jump for joy, or his equivalent of it. But… Félix doesn’t have a brother. (Or Félix’s brother is a monster, but only in the most literal sense. Félix’s father is a monster despite being very, very human. He learns to navigate the world through these two truths.)

I loved how this story emphasized the differences between different kinds of monsters - the type who inhabit horror stories, who look terrifying, and the mundane, human sorts of monsters who are often the most dangerous. And how monsters can choose to act humanely, while humans can choose to act monstrously.

For centuries, the blue rose has represented mystery, royalty, and that which is unobtainable. Why? Because the blue rose is artificial. Unnatural. So close to being real, but not quite. The unfortunate, disappointing result of humanity daring to challenge the natural order. And for some reason, Felix Graham De Vanily can't stop thinking about it. Meanwhile Kagami Tsurugi, despite everything, thinks they are wonderful. And Adrien Agreste, who prefers his roses red, is just here for a good time. (A story in which Felix reflects on his childhood, his relationships, and the nature of what's artificial and what's real.) (Alternatively, a story where the ideal date is destroying a dead man's property in the name of art, and two cousins who are actually brothers' bond over one truly terrible joke.)

I love Felix's and Kagami's introspective talks, with Felix reminiscing about the past - both the good, and the bad. He still has trouble believing that his life is this okay now, and especially that the class (and Marinette in particular) are actually friendly with him. Him and Kagami deciding to destroy some of Gabriel's things is great.

I think my favorite part is when Chat decides to give Felix birthday greetings. Chat loves to mess with him and Felix just doesn't understand why. Chat apparently has a little brother he likes to do this sort of thing with, so why can't he got bother that guy instead?

Felix asks to visit Adrien earlier, worried that his twin isn't responding to him on their bond. Gabriel catches him snooping and makes some assumptions about why. It gets worse from there.

Damn, poor Felix. He came to try and help Adrien, but instead Gabriel stole his Amok, forcing him to obey his commands, holding him prisoner in his basement for months. If you want some quality Felix whump, this is the fic for you!

Chat Noir and Ladybug need to tie up some loose ends. Unfortunately, one of those ends is Felix.

This is a fantastic fic! It’s part of a wider series wherein Adrien and Felix were friends with Nooroo and Duusu from a younger age, but Adrien’s memory was wiped of it by his parents, but this is the first fic you really need to read. Basically, after the events of Emotion, Chat confronts Felix about what he did, and Felix confesses to being a Sentibeing, and Duusu reveals to Chat that he is one as well, leading to Felix cooperating with the heroes.

Of all the fics I’ve read that tackle the subject, this one does the best job of giving Felix a redemption arc for his actions in the season 4 finale, focusing not only on how he hurt the heroes, but the kwamis. I loved that he truly understood how much he fucked up with the situation he put the kwamis in, how much suffering he put them through, and that the kwamis were allowed to be angry at him for awhile afterwards, to be suspicious and untrusting towards him at first (and that Marinette was allowed to do the same). Felix screwed up and hurt people, and he had to really show that he understood what he did was wrong, why it was wrong, and try to help the people he hurt.

Doctor Who: Lux

I've surprised myself by absolutely loving that episode! The pacing was great and it had some really interesting ideas that were very well executed, and I also love the continuing development of the Doctor and Belinda's relationship.

The set up with the haunted abandoned cinema and the Doctor being so infectiously excited to investigate that Belinda went along with it was really charming and atmospheric, and it only got better from there. I was initially a bit disappointed when the whole giggle and harbinger thing came up, because I liked it more as its own distinct thing, but actually it didn't get too bogged down in the previous stuff with the pantheon. Lux stood really well as his own villain.

This was a surprisingly economically told story, as from there the Doctor and Belinda get trapped in the film strip and stay there for most of the rest of the episode. It was clever having them breaking out of the animation by adding emotional depth (even though, of course, animation can absolutely have emotional depth). It also managed to make some of the usual emotional exposition (mostly about Gallifrey being destroyed (again)) quite funny without completely belittling it. It's a different way of doing this plot beat that the show has to repeat over and over again, which is fun! I love when new ways of doing these things can be found.

Obviously, though, the biggest swing here was them literally breaking the fourth wall and befriending some Whovians. Again, I wasn't sure what to think for a while, and possibly I would have hated it if it had been done slightly differently (eg. if they had been actually real and the Doctor fictional, or if there had been more punching down at fans beyond a mostly sweet 'we know we're a bit annoying'), but I actually love it. Of course the pantheon know all of the Doctor's adventures and can create fictional fans who happen to resemble real world fans and know the Doctor's adventures via titles such as Blink. Again, if it had been done differently, I might have hated it, but I didn't!

The solution was really pleasing as well. I love that Lux kind of gets what he wants, but in a way that doesn't harm anyone. He doesn't need an atom bomb. He can absorb all the light he wants and become the universe. As Belinda points out, he is now a real god: 'infinite, invisible, intangible'. It's all very cosmic.

I also thought the episode did a good job of depicting the realities of 1950s segregated America. It was ever present and important without being the main focus, which is a difficult line to balance. That heart dropping scene where you think the boy's mother has called the police was extremely effective, even though it turned out to be fictional. Even without that, there are enough bits of dialogue and pointed looks that help to ground the episode in the reality without sensationalising it or making it a Very Special Episode where we all Learn About Racism. I'm hardly an authority on these things, but it seemed very sensitively handled to me.

I continue to love Belinda, even more than from last week's episode. I love that we learned about her parents - hopefully we'll get to meet them soon - and I loved her slowly coming to trust the Doctor. Even though she definitely got into the excitement of travelling a bit this time, she still feels much more mature than a lot of companions, which I love. I loved her mentioning Rock Hudson and how strange and sad it is to know his fate. I loved her gently ribbing the Doctor for wanting to investigate and for not having a real name. I especially loved her trying to help the Doctor with his burn. The Doctor, of course, can't just take her help but has to use up his (supposedly) precious store of regeneration energy. All perfectly in character, I just think he's a silly, silly man.

Yeah, really great episode! After feeling pretty lukewarm about last week's, I'm really happy. I actually want to rewatch this one quite soon because I now know that I actually like the things that I was initially skeptical about (the pantheon and the whovians, mainly).

Little things:

Did Reginald die? It seems a shame and also unnecessary. It might have been nice to have had a line acknowledging or mourning him.

It seems like Mr Ring-a-Ding used a lot of regeneration energy, an amount that seems like it would maybe cause the Doctor some ill effects.

Mrs Flood can time travel now, I guess. Cool.

The Best Ships of 2024

If i’m anything I am a lover of love. I pretty much only engage stories with some kind of sapphic love element with some rare exceptions for strong ships I've seen, particular cool women with no love interest, or my partners wanting me to check something out. 10. Falin Touden and Marcille Donato [Delicious In Dungeon]

One of the most canon non canon ships of all time. One can hope that the anime rectifies the manga and has these two kiss in the end. This ship was one of the biggest ships of the year and while I am a contrarian and a hipster I am not immune, I really love these two, their sweet, cute and have a really strong dynamic and a sense that they truly love each other and would do anything for each other as well as a strong sense of attraction to one another. These pretty white women simply are delightful and worth every bit of hype and love they got this year. 

9. Velvet Crowe and Magilou [Tales Of]

I hated the of Tales Of Berseria but I love both these characters so much, they are so much fun and their like just a perfect dynamic. The extra goth edgy girl who eats people with her demon hand and the silly traitor clown girl mage who is always just treating life like it’s a game make for this really fun dynamic. Women deserve edgy OCs and they deserve those Edgy OCs to kiss a cute little silly lil clown girl. I just don’t know what else to say, their just kinda perfect together you know? 

8. Ayaka X Hiriko [Ayaka is In Love With Hiriko]

So this book and show is called Ayaka is in Love With Hiriko so you know it’s about these two doing a romance but the thing is that Hiriko is a stupid ass loser boss and Ayaka has to put her whole pussy into getting this girl to fuck her. I don’t totally love their we need to be in the closet at work kinda deal I think it’s weak to a lot of the other themes in the story but Ayaka and Hiriko genuinely are loaded with charisma and are actual lesbians textually in the narrative which is just rare even for stories with explicit sapphic relationships it’s not normally said out loud as a word and so Idk these two are special to me and their really funny too. 

7. Olive and Callie [My Dragon GF]

This is a ship that could be on a list every year really, since My Dragon Girlfriend debuted Olive it’s been a top tier ship but this years My Dragon Girlfriend gave us a very delicious date chunk of time focused on Callie and Olive doing a date and it was such a fucking cute date so here they are. Trans girl vampire and her cat girl GF it’s just perfect, I don’t know what to say, shy dorky trans girl vampire with her confident cat girl GF and the little ways they interact and feel the life and stuff. I just love them. Every time Courtney puts up little a little smut comic of them or draws them or whatever I am excited, I want these two girls to just ya know be married or whatever, they are the stars of the show to me. 

6. Tama X Koko [Sword Of The Necromancer]

I fucking love these two so fucking much. There is just nothing that beats a woman going to the depths of impossibility to revive the woman she loves no matter the cost, the toll of the consequences, dammit this woman is going to live, that’s not how her story ends and she will save her. That energy, that drive to just say “A World Without Her Isn’t A World Worth Saving” that is the kind of energy that immortalizes a piece of art to me and we see that energy from Tama but then we see Koko’s perspective and she has that same energy. Both of them see each other as this important part of the world, something worth giving up everything for and it’s so special with one of the worlds most amazing payoffs in a game. 

5. Emilia and Valentine [Sunset Phoenix]

Oh to be a magical mob boss with a little butch spy in your pocket who maybe also wants to betray you. These two are a very complicated relationship but ultimately bail each other out of awful situations again and again and again. These two are not dead yet but every piece of the world wants to fucking rip these two to shreads and it’s amazing how they endure everything going on in the plot and how their dynamic shifts over the time of the story. I can’t wait till the second arc of this story and to see if these two get together or not but their gay and their great and it’s so action packed and fucking great. 

4. Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit [Superwomen In Love]

I finally finished Superwomen in love this year after years of following the series from it’s early scanslations to now and it was even better than I would have expected. These two girls are utterly perfect for each other, their happy ending with explicit love confessions and them raising a kid together is just super sweet and I mean when girls fuse together it’s always a top tier ship. The Kamen Rider fun is great even for me who doesn’t do a Kamen Rider and has no interest in it. Their dates are fun, their desire for each other is fun, their little struggles don’t feel based on just misunderstanding and I really enjoyed the little short body swap story they added too. Their just so damn cute and I love them and I wish there was more of them to enjoy. 

3. Harlivy [The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley Quinn]

Okay, so I didn’t want to repeat any ships this year but there was a new version of Harley and Ivy in the utterly brilliant The Strange Case Of Harleen and Harley Quinn and what am I supposed to do when a brand new version with new origin stories in a YA setting that still lets the characters be radical and cool criminals and be in love since they were teens but gives them a little bit of mess despite a younger audience comes out!  Harleen and Harley both have great dynamics with Ivy, it’s nice to see the different ways they try and support her and also each other. Unlike a classic Dr. Jacklet and Mr. Hyde story the pair of them aren’t really portrayed as “good and bad” side of someone or a “Civilized and wild” side but instead just like alters that live together in the same mind and body. They are different people that have different skills although they draw from similar experiences. Pamala is already in love with Harleen at the start of the story but she falls for Harley right away too even before she realizes they are separate people.  These two are amazing criminal GFs and I love them in every universe basically. 

2. Syliva’s Sapphic Polycule [Potionomics] 

Potionomics put out their Masterworks Edition update and it made it where Sylvia could romance every single character in the game at once if she wanted and therefore making this one of the few games in the world with actual sapphic polyamory possible. While you don’t get to talk about dating other people with each other it’s still a cut above so many other games that simply don’t let you date other women once you’ve locked in.  Syliva’s got chemistry even with the guys in the game but obviously if your a lesbian like me your probably gonna just have her date all the girls and their all fucking fantastic relationships. Sylvia’s gonna keep herself busy between running her shop and kissing all the girls she is dating but she deserves the fun and joy they all bring into her life. All of their little romantic arcs are great and I love how the relationships feel very two sided where you grow through mechanics cuz your relationship with them and they grow in the arc not just being in a relationship with you but growing to some new place in their life. 

1. Sevika X Jinx [Arcane]

Sevika is one of my favorite characters of the year and Jinx is one of my favorite characters just in general. While neither will show up on my best characters list it’s because I didn’t love Arcane Season 2 so I just felt weird putting them there when I have up and down feelings on how they were handled yet, I can’t deny they are here on my top ship and a lot of that is carried by how cool they are. The way Jinx prioritizes getting Sevika her new arm she made for her over saving her own dead brother’s goggles, the way Sevika is willing to risk her life to fight enforcers so that Jinx can finish what she wants, the way Sevika believes in Jinx and wants to see her do things in the world, the way Jinx trusts Sevika without needing to say anything to her, these two are just so good and it really is a relationship between equals which shifts Sevila from her normal dynamic of being under someone. Every scene these two were in together was just a delight, an utter tree and honestly, they wree the heart of this season to me that felt neglected by needing to big up another region of the worlds lore and set up these magic giant stakes that just weren’t needed. Long live Zaun, via la revolution, the people deserve more than one seat at the table.

he will say mean shit. he will yell. he will flare his flames as he seethes. if you were anyone else he may have crushed you. but he at least tries to remember his methods to soothe himself- but hes not the type to back down from a fight, and shutting things down is going to take a few tries

its also a control thing- if you walk away he loses. if he walks away he loses. good luck with that, hes a hard one to change

MISERY

it doesnt matter how you died or how long ago, hes going to be angry. his grief comes out like that because he refuses to seem sad and vulnerable. of course hes sad that youre dead. hes gutted

but something in him refuses to let him cry. he wants to break things and if someone was responsible for your passing hes going to make sure they suffer for it. he wont kill them, and whatever he does hes going to drag it out.. but god its going to take everything to not just... purge them from the depths of hell right then and there the second he gets his hands on them

his temper is a lot shorter for a long time after you die

OK about the YB Manga and the Sakamakis blood drinking.

Obviously Rejet is SO DAMN INCOSISTENT. even the whole fig plot isn't relevant at all in the games because that would fuck up the Cordelia plot if Yui is supposed to smell like the fig 🙄. BUT funny enough somehow the "ritual " it's consistently Canon even in the games because there are Drama CDs discussing it ( not in depth of course because why would REJET give us any actual good lore ). The whole idea is that young vampires shouldn't consume blood because it would mess with their head presumably. So I'm guessing that consuming blood maybe inacts that predator response with the thirst for blood. It's like how you can't give babies real food when they are too young but in a more messed version. I mean even the way drinking blood is described within DL it's equivalent to drugs or alcohol so it's probably prohibited for young vampires to not screw their mental health ( 🙃 failed that area clearly ) I do think the whole " Special " thing with the ceremony was just for the Adam project and had nothing to do with the sucking blood. I have to assume that all Vampires perhaps do go through this but in a less elaborate way. Like a sweet 16 or Quincenera for once they hit puberty. Like turning 21 and having a drinking party.

We obviously have no details on how they were before the ritual other than knowing they didn't consume blood. I do remember that they can eat flowers and it acts as a substitute almost ( Laitos HDB route ). Also in one the boys Daylight Drama CD ( I can't remember who it was but it doesn't matter ) Yui is obviously Dieing so they're not drinking her blood so she questions how they are eating, and theu just respond with " I have other ways to get my fix " I'm gonna assume they're not drinking other girls blood, they could be but the context doesn't add to that and they specifically say. So maybe there is some way they are able to not go crazy or hungry without sucking blood?? ( pulling a Cullen and becoming Vegans 😭)

But what I CANNOT attempt to analyze is HOW THEY THINK BLOOD DRINKING IS LIKE A MYTH?? how does that work?? It's wasnt even fathomable to them. Which is Crazy considering that at least for the triplets, they witnessed multiple men drink Cordelias blood ( unfortunately 😞 save my boys ✊️ ) we can only assume this is just another one of Karl's alternative timelines. Or just Rejet keeps changing the lore and story ( which is probably the more likely answer)

yall don't know how BADLY I wish we got a details CONSISTENT worldbuilding and lore for vampires, I feel like we're in the wrong place for this because this is a dark romance game for masochists. REVIEW: The Trouble with Anna by Rachel Griffiths

The Basics:

Horse girl Anna has never particularly liked Julian, earl at large and her close friend's brother. But oops, her grandfather's dead and there's a stipulation in his will—in order to get her full inheritance, Anna must marry Julian ... and until then she's his ward. Julian isn't particularly enthusiastic about either of these things himself, until he realizes that prickly Anna is actually all he can think about, and hmm, wouldn't it be a little easier to go along with this marriage thing so he can bang her whenever he wants? Too bad Anna still isn't on board ...

The Review:

What a DELIGHTFUL book. I shall admit, I am a former horse girl myself, and this did awaken a bit of that in me again (there's DARLEY ARABIAN CONTENT; if you know, you know). But you don't have to be a horse girl to enjoy this. Horse racing is a focal point of the plot, but the true heart of the book is, of course, Anna's combative-turned-seductive relationship with Julian.

There's an instant chemistry between the two, and I find that Griffiths did a great job setting up two people who do know each other enough to have a bit of a history without truly knowing each other. Both Anna and Julian have preconceived notions about each other that sets them up for an initial clash. But dammit, they just can't avoid that desire.

And there is a progression from physical attraction, that "I must have you" vibe (which is quite new to Anna) to something deeper. Without giving it away, Griffiths does something quite smart with the relationship progression here. It kind of reads as a "What else is there?" stop-start, for The Swan Princess fans, and it subverts expectations in a way I really liked. We really have time to get to know Julian and Anna as they get to know each other better. The characterization of both is excellent, even if I'd say that Anna, spiky (as Julian thinks of her) and secretly vulnerable, is the star of the show. Julian is a great middle ground between snarky seducer and genuinely sweet guy.

I also feel that a huge strength in this book is Griffiths's writing. Dude, this author can write. The book's witty, funny, genuinely heartfelt. Some of the lines here made me literally laugh out loud, which is hard to pull off right now. It's quick without skimping on the depth of the relationship, and it absorbs you easily. In a lot of ways, this book reminded me of Tessa Dare, and I mean that as the highest of compliments.

The Sex:

This is a slow burn ... and it isn't. Again, there are plot elements I won't give away that affect the way Julian and Anna go about intimacy. There's a lot of foreplay—Julian catching Anna alone, pulling her bodice down, doing some furtive nipple sucking. There's al lot of breast play happening in this one! You don't get the full shebang until later in the book, but when you do, it's both a sweet and funny, much like the rest of the book. And like any good horse girl romance should, it gives you STABLE ACTION (no horses involved, to be clear). Anne is a truly horny heroine, despite her best efforts, and Juiian is dying to rip her clothes off. Good For Them.

The Conclusion:

I find that a lot of recently published historicals I've read are fun and lighthearted, which is nice, but they often fail to convince me of the depth of character. The Trouble with Anna avoids that pitfall excellently, and it's a great addition to the subgenre. Pick it up for a break from the world!

YYH live action - disappointments and highlights!

disappointments:

off the bat - it's five episodes and the pacing and storylines are squished, but you just have to accept these limitations and embrace this for what it is - MOVING ON

the music - it was generic and had some weird choices and overall didn't feel very cohesive?

hiei's zoomies - the sound effect when he's going fast is a bit cartoony in a bad way

3 times the cgi was noticeably iffy: genkai's younger face, when yusuke and kurama went into the mirror of forlorn hope, the blooms coming out of karasu

skipping over hiei and kurama's backgrounds - this is what made me think this series is more for yyh fan than anyone else, at the very least i would think there would be some exposition about youko kurama or hiei being a thief

bui - he was flat and really just there for hiei to show off his dragon (which isnt a bad reason! but in comparison to karasu, he didn't have much of a personality, even after taking off his armor)

highlights:

but really - kuwabara's introduction, yusuke's flying drop kick, it perfectly captured their dynamic

kuwabara in general, he was everything i hoped he'd be

the costuming: while there wasn't as much variety in what yusuke and co. wore, there were lots of details that made everyone's clothes stand out (the chains and lining on kuwabara's uniform, yusuke's cropped uniform top, everything hiei wore to the buckled strap for his sword in the back, kurama's magenta uniform with the gold lining that IS NOT his school uniform but just - something he wears i guess?? which makes it even more insane and i love that)

THE FIGHT SCENES, they put so much effort into each fight and you can tell and it makes the show stand out SO MUCH in comparison to other live action adaptations

the way they, despite having to condense so much of the story, managed to tell a very interesting and entertaining twist to the story without losing too much

hiei and kuwabara arguing - hiei going out of his way to tell kuwabara to get away from yukina <- i'm still laughing

speaking of - THE HUMOR, it was serious! it was funny! it did a great job of balancing out the two

the dynamic of the group is just like in the anime/manga (though we didn't get as much of them interacting as i'd like, we got some and i enjoyed every bit of it!)

karasu. he was creepy. he was gay. his eyeliner was sharp. his attacks looked awesome. his fight lived up to his anime counterpart

the toguro brothers. while we didn't get as much of a lead up, they were perfect. older toguro was straight out of a horror movie. younger toguro managed to be complex and not just a big muscular villain. there was depth to him that felt very authentic.

hiei diving off the tower, i really enjoyed seeing his demonic abilities on display (though where were his fire powers???)

YOUKO KURAMA. i was so worried he'd look terrible in live action but he was just pretty and fluffy and aslkdjhsdfg

hiei and yukina's reunion. awkward. sincere. sweet. sad. the fact that hiei was surprised yukina even spoke to him. i wanna squish the two of them

everyone was beat to hell, their clothes were crunchy and gritty and i like that no one was left 'pristine' like in so many other shows - these boys got nasty

everything honestly just everything i watched the entire five episodes grinning and having a blast

Hi hello i’ve been waitin for this ask forever. ALSO I WANNA SAY THANK YOU!1 i love getting asks like this (two ship charts under cut n explanation if you're interested)

The non-detailed way I see their dynamic is basically just that, grumpy x sunshine. Whenever I think about em I just think about that post that reads ‘’Hop and his boyfriend whom he needs to fight with constantly’’

But I do have some more in-depth thoughts/headcanons on their relationship, I have been hyperfixatin hard on em for the past 9 months;

To me, Bede’s the more physically affectionate, or clingy to be more accurate. He keeps affection in public at a minimum cause well, you know gossip travels fast. But in private? He’s constantly seeking out Hop’s attention. At first he was awkward about hugging n stuff, getting overwhelmed easily, which is why Hop waited for him to seek it out but he eventually got more comfortable and now Hop can’t sit down without him laying down on him.

Out of the two of them, I think that (surprisingly) Hop is the most touch starved, he always gives affection without receiving much himself. I think that at some point, Bede realized this and it’s half the reason for why he’s so clingy.

They bicker a lot, at some point it just becomes a love language. Bede’s still a little bit of a jerk and Hop has to keep him in check. I like to imagine Bede is flustered easily n Hop loves to take advantage of that.

I think that Hop is usually the one planning dates and hangouts, it’s either that or he shows up at Bede’s door at 11 pm with roses out of nowhere. He also almost always insists on paying. In turn, Bede randomly sends him gifts. I definitely think Bede spoils Hop

Even though Bede’s taller, and Hop’s shirts are too wide and short for her, he steals Hop’s clothes all the time. Hop keeps losing shirts. If you see him without his jacket means that Bede probably has it.

Hop fidgets with Bede’s hair methinks, he likes to run his hands through it and occasionally braid it. Reminds him of a wooloo lol.

I also think Bede is very easily jealous, not to a possessive extent but it is very clear when she’s jealous. She’ll glare daggers to anyone who’s a little too close to Hop and will act very affectionate towards him in front of said person

Also I just think Bede’s smitten with Hop to the degree it becomes everyone’s problem. Hop might have fallen first but Bede fell harder. Like. Idk I just think that Bede gets attached to people way too easily but acts like he doesn’t while Hop is the opposite way

Also I’d be very funny is Hop’s dubwool was borderline homophobic towards Bede (I have a hc that dubwool is very overprotective of Hop lol, he does not let anyone near him). Bede reaches to grab Hop’s hand and is instantly tackled by dubwool. I have this scene in my mind where they’re both up in a tree and when they’re about to kiss, Hop’s dubwool just begins to tackle said tree non-stop.

(Applying my gender hcs woo). Even though Hop’s not really a guy, Bede still refers to him as his boyfriend. Hop also refers to Bede as his girlfriend as much as he can to fluster her or try to cheer her up.

I find it funny to imagine Bede being horrified upon figuring out he has a crush on Hop. Also also Bede cooks for him a lot. Usually just sweets or baked goods since that's what he knows what to do best.

I think that the confession was a disaster. Like they were probably hanging out, Bede’s just starin at Hop not payin attention at all and without thinkin blurts out a ‘you’re pretty’ or something like that. Cue panic and Hop tryin to get a direct answer and Bede just denying everything. It works out somehow

I think Hop’s mum would like Bede, Leon would not lol. Opal is supportive not only cause Hop is a good match for him but also because Bede can’t stay at the gym all the time, Opal has to kick him out sometimes.

Movin onto the angst stuff:

I think that Hop would struggle with saying ‘I love you’ while Bede would say it too easily.

Hop is very observant, he notices when there’s a slight change in Bede’s behavior and when she’s nervous. Bede isn’t as observant and is usually a little awkward when it comes to comfortin Hop

I think both Hop n bede have scars. Bede has scars on his hands from the gym challenge and digging through caves to get wishin stars. He also has a light yet constant tremble to his hands, aka his hands are always trembling, can’t control it (I also have this and I get to choose which character to give it to). While Hop generally has scars from wounds he’s picked at, he has them primarily in his arms but some in his legs too. He also has a burn scar from eternatus.

I think Hop has low self-esteem and doesn’t think he’s a good person. I definitely imagine there’s times were he feels like he isn’t worthy or deserving of the affection Bede gives him. I also think his intrusive thoughts (I hc him as having intrusive thoughts cause I do lol) don’t help. Bede does his best to try to distract him from it

ahhh my favorite otomes! okay, i'll try not to write too much, but no guarantees 😅 i have a lot of favs 🥹 *takes a deep breath*

for jp ones (that haven't been translated into english):

juuzaengi - hot historical men in china is my thing <3 it's also got cats, magic, and fantasy, which i'm all a fan of. it has some very questionable characters in it, but uh, i'm not complaining 😗

reine des fleurs - super pretty art and some very questionable characters (the men and some other side characters XD). in love with the music and the voice acting. also violetta is one of my fav otome mcs.

toki no kizuna - hot historical men but in japan this time! more fantasy, but including demons 👀✨

black wolves saga - very dark, but i enjoyed the lore, the worldbuilding, and the plot. the music is also banger.

ayakashi gohan - this is a sol , but has lots of character introspection. it also has demons, fantasy, and lots of food, which makes my mouth water thinking about it 🤤

birthday song series - a game about life/death. it has some super cute, adorable moments, and the voice acting is superb. definitely has lots of feels.

for english ones (that have been translated/created in english):

cupid parasite - it's a little zany and can be outlandish at times, but i love the comedy and the wild scenarios the game has. the characters are unique, funny, and the premise makes for sweet delight. (it's got some angst cause there wouldn't be any without an otome game xP)

taisho alice - yurika is an interesting mc who has some controversy surrounding her, but i liked her spunkiness and guts. she isn't afraid to speak her mind, and some of the love interests could be quite scathing lol!! the dialogue can be on the memeish side, but i think it works for the game especially when the game itself has fourth wall breaking moments 😆 despite its fantasy/fairytale premise, it also has some dark sides (and the endings can really pack a punch).

ozmafia - the fantasy/fairytale setting combined with mafia (and rival factions) is one hell of a setting, but it somehow works out perfectly. it has dark moments and has some tws, but i really liked it a lot. (this one also has had me contemplating writing an au with the bsd characters. it seems perfect for them 👀)

psychedelica of the ashen hawk - jed is a stand out, fantastic mc, and the setting takes place during winter, so it's perfect for a christmas/winter season. the mystery and story behind this one is somewhat related to the first game (psychedelica of the black butterfly), but it can be played on its own.

even if tempest - giving big props to anatasia (the mc) who goes through some much and i feel for her every single time shit hits the fan. i'm a sucker for the villain, but all of the main guys are great. i have a soft spot for tyril who is a big tsundere 🤭 i also love the mystery and the lore.

charade maniacs - some people aren't a fan of the music, but i love the electronic/dj feel to it. i also like the futuristic setting, and the premise of death games/scenarios is super interesting to me. the art is great, and the characters are near and dear to my heart.

9rip - i think this game tugged at my heartstrings even more so because i related a lot to misa, the mc, of the game. the guys also had in-depth stories, which had me invested every step of the way. the art slaps hard.

dark nights - an indie english game that is made by one artist/writer. it has a horror, mystery vibe that isn't present in many otome games, so it's cool to see it come to life! it was also recently revamped with new art (i haven't played the newer version yet).

i apologize that i wrote so much 😅 i have a lot to say about otome games 🤣

honestly this isn’t as much to do with her as a character as it is to do with the people who’ve played her but she has done so much for my self esteem in a really roundabout way. as someone with dark brown eyes and frizzy kinda untamable brown hair reading fic about her helped me appreciate more things about myself.

if you struggle with self image i really cannot recommend highly enough finding a character who looks and acts like you and reading stories where someone is absolutely, irrevocably in love with them. whether that’s platonically or romantically. i know it’s weird but being able to look in the mirror or at some aspect of my personality that i don’t like and say “that’s still lovable” is WONDERFUL.

Admittedly, this is also meant to help me incorporate the characters and plot into a larger xover, though not immediately so some of the concepts here can be used for other stories, AUs, what have you.

A good amount of the movie, pretty much everything plotwise up until we have the conflict between Dark and the other entities, is good from the word go. Dark and Orion's relationship as it develops is solid, the dynamics between Dark and the other entities a little less so though we definitely get something of a feel for how he thinks about each of them. He very much looks up to Dreams, which makes me wonder if Dark and Dreams co-opt the leadership role given that Dark would probably have been around first, with Sweet Dreams showing up later on. Dark doesn't always seem to understand the idiosyncrasies of Insomnia, Unexplained Noises, and Sleep, and in some cases he quite literally doesn't understand what Quiet is saying, though he clearly likes and supports them all as best he can.

Though one thing I do wonder is the notion of Dark's insecurities and how those play off. It doesn't seem like the others are unaware of Dark's struggles, but they might not understand the depth of what Dark's going through. Maybe he's tried to bring it up, but not made it to the level that he gets to with Orion in the tea shop, or he did actually divulge his worries about being seen as 'the bad guy' and was brushed off or basically told not to worry about it, which unfortunately can be like telling a trainee pilot not to crash the plane. I.E., if you tell someone not to look for a red car, all they're gonna see are red cars.

He also does seem to be weirdly apart from the rest of the group, especially if you remember the tea shop scene. Everybody else goes inside without Dark, he's just kind of allowed to sit at his own table and presumably no one notices. It could've been because Orion was there and the others figured that it was a private moment so they let it play out, but he's almost left behind right then and there. There's also the fact that he comes in late to the break where we meet the others and no one really comments. They're happy to see him, but from the looks of things, this is not the first time Dark's gone off on his own or showed up late to a break time. They seem pretty tight-knit, but Dark's kind of not totally integrated with the rest of them, and looking back on it, especially when considering what happens later on, it's really noticeable.

Light's role and character feels like it should be expanded. I still like the idea of he and Dark being, or seeing themselves as, twin brothers, as it gives some interesting issues for them and would make sense given that they were both likely 'created' around the same time if you're going for the spontaneous generation route. However, even if you're not going for that route, I'd still go further rather than making him just the 'nicer one that everyone likes'. In a way, I like the notion of making Light a shadow archetype to Dark, mostly because it's funny to think of and it makes them play off each other so much better in my mind. Where Dark is more insecure, Light is settled into who he is, where Dark is more open to outside influences, Light is more centered and less likely to let things get to him.

Them being brothers also makes their conflict interesting, because if anyone's had siblings, Lord knows they're gonna conflict over something. It probably doesn't help that Light and Dark can only spend so much time around each other due to their situation. So you have Light seeing how his brother is drawing away and getting more combative and, well, alright then, Dark, if you wanna be a jerk, you can be a jerk. Though I don't think Light's oblivious to what's going on, or maybe why. He, just like everyone else, kind of underestimates the problem.

The big part of the plot, apart from the time travel, that I would change is the scene where Sweet Dreams and Orion go into his dream to find Dark. Firstly, especially when looking back on it, I feel like they kind of skated over the fact that Dark, y'know, tried to wipe himself off the face of the earth on purpose. I know that it's kept tame for the kiddos, but maybe have a moment where Dark has to be drawn out of his own emotional muck, maybe in a quite literal sense. The lack of time travel also means that Dreams gets a bigger role, and if Orion is directly addressing the things that Dark told him, then that might also open up Dreams to a lot of what's been bothering Dark, character interaction and her getting to reconnect with him. The Black Hole scene is fantastic, though maybe a bit more lead-in with the earlier bits, and keep in mind Dark's character arc.

Ultimately, given where the plot goes, I like the fact that there is conflict between Dark and the other night entities, especially since we've been building up to that with Orion's intro, but maybe change it a little. Like, you can't tell me these guys have never seen what things look like in the day before. Maybe instead of them being just you're holding us back from experiencing a good thing because of what you are, Dark it turns into we're sick and tired of watching you continually get yourself into trouble because of what other people say about you, especially now that you're jumping down Orion's throat just because he expressed a contrary opinion. Because if we're going to talk about Dark being 'irresponsible', then we should also bring up the fact that he kind of implodes on Orion, a kid, as a result of the conversation with the other entities where he discusses daytime and why he likes it. Now, we the audience and Orion, know why he's doing that, but the other night entities might not fully grasp the scope of why this is happening. In their minds Dark might've just gone from okay, this insecurity is kind of annoying and interfering with our jobs to alright, now you're lashing out at people simply for saying they happen to prefer daytime, you're kind of just being a bully. Really gives you the chance to see how disconnected everyone's become, and feels like a better use of the Miscommunication Kills trope.

I also had a somewhat fun thought where the 'screw you Dark we're gonna go experience day without you holding us back' bit was a somewhat slapdash way of teaching Dark a lesson of sorts. A sort of alright, he wants to be a jerk, well, how about we show him what happens sort of thing. But this, again, coming out of issues where No One Is Saying The Things They Need To Say, so Dark's left stumbling and trying to explain. For extra oomph, maybe someone says something to the effect of your problems are not an excuse for bad behavior, maybe you should consider your actions have consequences? Bit of a thing that's harsher in hindsight, given what Dark decides to do as a result.

It definitely leads to some fun moments in retrospect. Not that the whole bit of the entities telling Dark that they appreciate him wasn't good, but, all things considered, and especially when harsh words are exchanged, maybe an apology is also needed. Admittedly though, this could go both ways, with the others apologizing to Dark for writing off his feelings and making him think they were abandoning him, and Dark apologizing for letting his not-so-great feelings take the fore, and also maybe not telling them about the scope of his worries depending on how the others take it. If he wasn't being fully honest, I can see some of the other entities, maybe Sweet Dreams, Quiet, and perhaps to a degree Unexplained Noises, Sleep, and Insomnia being like well, why didn't you SAY ANYTHING?! But, yeah, let's sit down and talk this mess out. It does also potentially bring them closer as friends (or more, if you wanna go that route).

Another fun thought, as a result of Dark getting BTFO'd by Light, does Light stop? Does he initially think no no no, he's just being dramatic, he's not actually and then...yep, turns out Dark did.
