During the Christmas season, a small sprig of mistletoe appears over the Curtis brother’s kitchen door, but with a slight rule change: instead of being kissed, anyone caught under the mistletoe gets punched. Overnight, mass war is declared.

Johnny’s living in the kitchen because he’s too scared to try and get out.

Two-Bit gets decked the most, because he keeps forgetting and brazenly walks through the door multiple times a day.

Ponyboy is climbing through windows just to avoid the door.

Soda and Steve are either bolting through doors faster than they can be caught, or trying to sabotage people by pushing them under the mistletoe.

Dally is is relatively safe, because no one wants to try taking a piece out of him; in return, he hides behind the door and wallops whoever tries to sneak through, laughing maniacally the whole time.

Meanwhile Darry is pinching the bridge of his nose, 100% done, like “guys please stop, this is stupid”

Then turns around and absolutely DECKS Steve as he tries to sprint into the kitchen.

Temprachure outside is getting ridiculously high again so I’ve busted out this bad boy today. I’ve gone through one and a half samples of this already, it’s such an oddly comforting scent to me. Creamy, powdery, feels like when you’ve been lazing around outside during the hottest day in the middle of summer, the sun’s high in the sky, warming your face, your arms, the top of your head point blank. you’re getting sweaty but the heat spreading out through your bones makes you too lethargic to make the move to some shade. Perfect beach scent for days when you don’t have access to a beach.

Rereading over the epilogue of BH and got curious— how much attention do you and Lynx pay to genetics when it comes to colors/patterns of the cats? Like, if a cat in the story is said to be the daughter of another cat, do you ensure their appearance is genetically possible? Or are you more concerned about them being similar enough to be related and focusing more on individual appearances?

I’m always very curious since the community has such a wide range of approaches to cat appearances— from talented artists making whimsical stylized patterns to equally talented ones who can tell you exactly which gene corresponds to different aspects of the designs!

I'm the one in charge of tracking genetics! Part of Quartz Heart's groundedness is about maintaining the genetic accuracy of its characters, which can—and do—play a role in shaping the characters and plot as you've seen with Bramble and Cloud!

So have a grab-bag of information about genetic particulars, my treat:

Firestar is a heterozygous ginger ticked tabby, Rosy is a heterozygous black tortoiseshell ticked tabby, Sparks was a Ruddy Somali (thus a homozygous black ticked tabby), and Nutmeg was a lynx tortie point of humble moggy origins (the type of tabby she was isn't important, but it sure wasn't ticked). Making Cloudpaw a flame point was to give an in-narrative excuse for bringing up the "kittypets and their funny colors" thing.

Goldenflower is actually a cryptic tortie! For whatever reason, her black-based fur doesn't have a huge presence on her body, so everyone thought she was just a regular ol cream tabby. That's how she was able to pass on the black-based X to Bramblekit and make the Tigerclone. If you were to ask me what kind of tort Tawnypelt is, I'd probably say a cinnamon tort (cinnamon does strongly resembles the color of the tawny owl for which she is named), but I'm pretty uncertain about having cinnamon crop up too often in the Clans. Finding a chocolate moggy out in the wild or in someone's house is already a rarity, cinnamon is pretty much only found in pedigree cats—I'm getting off-topic.

Speaking of chocolate, both Teaselfoot and Mousefur are chocolate! Teasel a tabby, Mousey solid.

Silverstream was a black silver tabby, Graystripe is a blue tabby, Mintpaw is a blue silver tabby, and Stormpaw is a black smoke.

Sometimes a character's design has had to change for the sake of genetics. Thankfully, not many have needed this. Sometimes we do change em to fit their name better (Brindleface and Brightflower) or for the sake of a coolass character design (Cloudpaw and Stormpaw).

JJK is inherently a much more insular and claustrophobic world, and I think to make C/W work in it we would have to expand it beyond a single city, but not as large as a whole galaxy. Let's make the background a secret war 10 years ago between noble clan factions that roughly map to Diaspora/Oricon/Apostolos. In the peace, a higher-ups' council has been created to tentatively balance the faction.

Thematically, this AU would have to focus a lot more on sorcerers and exploited labor. Rigour is a powerful ancient curse that makes people mindless laborers, which of course the higher-ups think is fine and perfectly harnassable.

Our characters:

Cassander Timaeus Berenice is an auxiliary heir for a noble clan whose interest in them has varied highly based on how far in line they are from clan head. At the beginning of the story, they're stationed at some rural post mostly using their (decent but not incredible) Reverse Cursed Technique to heal other sorcerers. They will be doing....not that once their parent and clan head dies.

Cursed technique: Oracle. They can see the future, but only 10 total minutes of it if they drain all their cursed energy. They have a Binding Vow on themself to access more time than that, but in exchange they have to "pre-load" set increments, so at any given time they may have access to increments of 5 seconds, 30 seconds, etc.

Grade: Special Grade 4 sorcerer (Indicating grading outside the state system). Their parents downplayed Oracle when grading them in order to prevent them from being assigned dangerous missions. In reality, closer to semi-Grade 1.

Years ago, Aria Joie was the rising star and poster girl of her jujutsu academy, the youngest promoted to Grade 1 since Jace Rethal himself. Only for her to defect because she realized how badly she and all sorcerers were being exploited. She is internally considered a curse user by the higher-ups' council, but publicly another sorcerer is impersonating her. Has gone to ground and is taking illegal odd jobs while she attempts to find allies in her revolt against the higher-ups.

Cursed technique: Shining Bell. Very strong light manipulation technique that includes light shows, near-perfect illusions, and also lasers. She uses her whip cursed tool as a focus. (Her impersonator has a weaker illusion CT.)

Domain expansion: Regent's Brilliance. To many of her opponents surprise, the sure-hit effect isn't her lasers. It's the magical imprinting of a vision onto their brains.

Grade: Grade 1. Will be promoted to Special Grade by the story's end in an attempt to appease/control her (does not work).

Mako Trig is, as far as he knows, an orphan who was raised in the September Institute, a school for sorcerers whose cursed techniques manifest young. He ran away as a teen and has been making it as a minor criminal ever since. He is very good at using Binding Vows and makes them on the fly in order to compensate for his low cursed energy reserves and inefficient technique. He has a skateboard cursed tool he made himself.

Cursed technique: Construction. (When he returns to the September Institute and discovers he's a curse clone put into a human body, he will unlock a second cloning technique, Facsimile Duplication.)

Grade: Grade 3 when he ran away, but he legally does not exist.

AuDy is, as far as they know, a shikigami who walked off from their summoner one day and is now a sorcerer. What summoner? They don't remember.

Cursed technique: None. AuDy smash. (Liberty and Discovery has a cursed technique that can perfectly analyze and recreate any other cursed technique, but only once before moving on to another.)

Grade: None. (Previously a pair of special grade ancient curses created by a worshipper who they cast off and killed.)

Orth Godlove is the beleaguered principal of Counter/weight Jujutsu Technical Academy, the only institution remotely opposing the clans. No one ever expected him to have this position as a window, but a series of deaths got him promoted, and he proved to be an exceptionally skilled bureaucrat. He assembles the Chime to investigate a mysterious ancient curse that has been recently unearthed.

Cursed technique and grade: None. (Can use cursed tools decently to defend himself.)

Ibex is the most powerful sorcerer in the jujutsu world. Charismatic, manipulative, and ruthless, he is hated by the higher-ups for being from a non-sorcerer family but he's too powerful to get rid of. Not-so-secretly amassing power to depose the higher-ups. [Okay he's kind of just Gojo but he's smarter and knows about socialism so he's gonna actually win this one.] He summons shikigami that look exactly like him, so you never really know if you're dealing with the real Ibex or not. Orth's former classmate.

Cursed technique: Righteousness. He does not publicly disclose exactly what this does and no one can really figure it out because he's so good at hand-to-hand and weapons combat even without noticeably using a cursed technique. Is it his shikigami technique? A charisma technique? Who knows!

Domain expansion: Righteous Vulture's Wake. Also not public knowledge what this does! (It's an information domain ala Infinite Void. What he's doing is using micro domain expansions during battle to gather information and overwhelm his opponents without them knowing exactly what he's doing. When he performs a full domain expansion, it's terrifyingly large.)

Grade: THE special grade

Been fighting Lady Ethereal for maybe two hours or so now and getting so so so close and aaaaa this is an awesome boss i love her but I really have to get to bed now and tbh I kinda just can't wait until after work tomorrow so I can keep fighting her more lol

This is the most fun fight in the game so far- super challenging but so, so fun :D
