Just sent my little brother a youtube video depicting the new Until Dawn ending and now we are theorising like crazy and this is genuinely the most conversation we have had with each other in over a year.
When the original game came out, I was 12 and he was 8, and he's turning 18 next month and I haven't lived with him in over three years, and we've only spoken a handful of times since our dad died, but I so much as mention Until Dawn and now we're yapping away endlessly and this is SO IMPORTANT TO ME.

Nobody asked but I logged into my old wattpad account and found my g/t collection so here’s a few recs that are absolute masterpieces :
• ‘Man on the Inside’ series by peachnewt
Summary: Louis, the coffee addict. Will, the fanboy.
These two are Agents partnered under the Watch.
They get along as well as a toaster in a bath. When a mission involving a madman goes wrong, the two of them become physically closer than ever.
And we don't mean the "handcuffed" trope.
Running from fanatics, and against the clock, keeping the Watch organization under wraps might cost one of them their lives.
- one of my faves, classic grumpy x sunshine having to be in forced proximity with grumpy being able to size shift! the lore is so deep but also not hard to follow and all relates back to our grumpy size shifter
• ‘The Shrink Program’ by Shayni
Summary: Maddison Tramph makes terrible life choices and is shrunken as a result.
To return to normal, she must reform her behaviour with the help of an estranged best friend.
Resulting in even worse life choices.
- I cannot even begin to put into words how well written and planned this story is. not only is there tons of g/t but the story lore itself is so insane. i gasped at so many plot twists chat it’s crazy, i think this deserves to be a physical book with an award but that’s js me
• ‘A Giant Mountain’ by Soya_Sauce
Summary: After trying to run away, Emelie gets captured by a giant. He brings her to his world where she cannot escape. The giant teases her, so she learns to dislike him. But after much time together, those feelings start to change.
and the sequel : ‘Here We Go Again’
Summary: It's the beginning of Émelie's and Nathaniel's senior years, and both are struggling. Emelie can't seem to stay out of trouble and might lose her scholarship.
And Nathaniel's staying up day and night, working on a part time job and studying.
Emelie gets suspended, again, for an entire week. She wanted to spend that time with Nathaniel, but let's just say things didn't go according to plan.
- this one’s really cute with a well written story too. the main g/t couple r so sweet after they get over their little big bad giant teasing stage
• ‘The Giant’ by Baileyschatz
Summary: A princess is given to a giant prince as humans try to make peace with the giants. Will she be treated as a pet, a prisoner, or a love interest. Read to find out.
- classic enemies to lovers sort of trope with the giant prince absolutely pining over the tiny princess but not being the best at showing it however it is a very cool story nonetheless
• ‘The Next to be Taken’ by DezWeasel767
Summary: Ever wondered why some people are afraid of midnight or always portrays it as a bad time of night?
It's for what lurks at night. It's because of the reason, why l've been running for a part of my life.
I've been bullied durning the day, and then hunted at night by these monsters.
I always looked at them as they were the enemy.. but sometimes, what you think are your enemies, or your childhood bogey man, could actually turn out to be your only true family..
- parental g/t with two sweet giant brothers taking care of a whole bunch of human kids. it’s a really cute story however if i remember correctly there is some fatal vore right at the very end and not really described in detail but you can definitely skip that chapter!
This is it for now! I do have wayyy more don’t worry but these are my top favourites for now! Enjoy!

Rewatching SG-1 has reminded me of a Tales of Symphonia xOver idea I had that I'd still like to write.
It'd ignore the Tales of Symphonia sequel, so no Dawn of the New World stuff going on here. Instead, a few years post Tales of Symphonia and the reunification of the two world of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla into the single world of Aselia, an archeological dig in Tethe'alla discovers an outpost in the mountains that predates the Kharlan War and the civilizations involved by thousands of years.
It's not ancient Elven technology from their migration to the world from space either and likely predates even that long ago event - and the Elves are related to the Nox, though whether that comes up or not... at least it's world building, right? I considered the Ancients... but I like the Nox better for this. Anywho, the current Elves are an offshoot of the Nox who've lost their history and had somewhat divergent evolution from being on a completely different planet from the other Nox for so long.
It's Ancient technology, but with the Elves having forgotten their history they can't identify it anymore than the human and half-elven historians or archaeologists can. They've even consulted the Summon Spirits, but if they know then they aren't telling. And they do seem to know something.
Seles is fascinated. She's gotten interested in archaeology - Zelos blames Raine, who of course wouldn't see why being interested in old stuff would be so boring to him. But Zelos is trying to be supportive so he's shown up at the dig site.
There's a giant stone circle inside and that Zelos does find interesting. Its made up of a foreign material similar to exspheres, but it's clearly refined the same way exspheres were. While it's still somehow being powered - though they've yet to successfully activate it - it's clear the power source is external and stored in capacitors, not imbued with the power of a human life sacrificed to it's production.
That's when an offworld activation occurs and a Goa'uld and his army shows up. Zelos manages to hide Seles, but then he and two others are 'selected' similar to how Sha're and Skara are in the episode Children of the Gods.
On another world now, Zelos manages to befriend one of the Jaffa guards. Not enough to be snuck out, but enough that Zelos is pretty sure he's not going to get killed by this guy when things inevitably get worse. A selection is going on and, as Mekel explains, the Goa'uld - gods, but not really and isn't that a familiar situation for Zelos to be in? - are selecting new hosts. They're parasites. And that's when Zelos realizes he's in more trouble than he realized.
And so is Mekel and anyone else if Zelos gets 'Chosen'. The Chappa'ai (Stargate) is made of the similar-to-exspheres element. And so is the tech the Jaffa use - and thus the Goa'uld use. And, according to Mekel, the Goa'uld and Jaffa have that element - naquadah - in their blood stream. It's similar enough to exspheres that just being surrounded by so much of it makes Zelos able to feel his now-dormant powers again (dormant ever since he stopped using his angelus crystal) but not enough to actually use those powers.
He's pretty sure if he gets possessed? Those powers will be back and in the control of a wannabe god. Not good.
Mekel is not thrilled to learn this either. He may believe the Goa'uld are false gods, but they're still ridiculously powerful. Giving even one of them more power??? Could only be a bad thing. He's not sure he believes this isn't a ploy on Zelos' part to try and get away safely, but he does like Zelos now so... he decides to help Zelos escape. In doing so they discover a Tok'ra prisoner and after a short explanation about the Tok'ra vs Goa'uld divide, they decide to take him along.
The three of them jump a few planets and Zelos laments that he doesn't know his own world's address to go home. They'd be safe there. Though he's also hoping that they've somehow disabled the gate to prevent further incursions, though he knows Lloyd will be beyond pissed if the King chooses to abandon Zelos and the others to their fate that way.
They realize they didn't get away clean when an Ashrak injures the Tok'ra - Jeren and... I admit I don't have a name for his host in mind yet. They're too badly injured. Jeren could survive in a new host, but it's too late for his current one. Mekel refuses to become a Tok'ra host. If there were a way for him to be free of his symbiote without dying, he'd take it in a heartbeat... except for this. Which Jeren assures Mekel that he understands.
Zelos volunteers. He's come to trust Jeren and he knows the information Jeren seeks to take to the Tok'ra is important. It's just temporary, after all. Until a new host can be found, anyway.
As Zelos suspected, being bonded with Jeren revives his old exsphere/angelus crystal granted powers. He can't bring out his wings, but he's able to call on Judgement and some of his other high-level spells. And when the Ashrak strikes again, the three of them are able to kill the Goa'uld assassin this time.
But even with Zelos' healing powers restored, he never had Raine's gift for Resurrection and so Jeren's previous host is too far gone even for Zelos to heal even now. At least with the Ashrak dead, the man is avenged and they're able to safely seek out the current Tok'ra safe house by contacting another Tok'ra spy who knows where to send them.
The Tok'ra are fascinated by Zelos' powers but also relieved its not something they can replicate. Because if they can't, the Goa'uld can't either. And unfortunately the Tok'ra don't have a way to send Zelos home yet because they don't have the address to his world either.
When a new guy volunteers to become Jeren's host, Zelos decides he likes the partnership and stays Jeren's host after all. Mekel offers his services to the Tok'ra specifically to protect Zelos and Jeren. If the Goa'uld became aware of Zelos' powers, they'd seek to capture him and remove Jeren in order to take his body for themselves.
A few years later, Egeria is discovered and Zelos is brought in to try and use his unusual powers to heal her. He's met SG-1 once or twice before and Mekel and Teal'c have a mutual respect for each other going on. Zelos does manage to heal Egeria enough to stabilize her for travel, but she needs the care of her people going forward - she needs a host. But doing so meant revealing his abilities to SG-1.
Egeria fixes the flaws in Tretonin and Mekel jumps at the chance to try it. And after talking things over with SG-1, Zelos and Jeren tell Mekel they want to request they be assigned as a sort of permanent liaison to the SGC. Mekel likes this idea so they go through with it. Jacob and Selmak think it'll be a great fit.
Admittedly my ideas for this verse skip around a bit. Zelos, Jeren, and Mekel verses an Ori Prior would be very interesting to see happen. At some point they'd make contact with Aselia and Zelos is able to see his sister and friends again. Also... Lloyd and Colette kicking Ori ass with their angel powers, as some of the few still utilizing angelus crystals, would be a great deal of fun.

To think you'd let such a stranger barge into your apartment- actually, you would never imagine such a comeup. But here are we.
Right in front of you there is a man. Raven locks, black shirt, white baggy pants - is that a purple... gut, intestine thing around his chest? - and a pair of imacculate ballet shoes on his feet. The dude is knocked out cold, it seems that he barely made it through your window, only to come head first against your floor tiles. Now you have drops of blood all over the floor and counter- and, a bleeding man.
You can't tell which task will be more grueling to solve.
Because you have a working brain, of course the man comes first. No matter if your window is broken, and a handfull of glass shards adorn your countertops. And now you've accidentally stepped upon one- just then you realise the man's back must be feeling like a bed of thors- or shards, over being dragged through the floor.
So you throw his arms - which you notice, has a few cuts here and there - over your shoulders, and picks him up in a one-person carry; barely, his torso is against yours and legs are dangling on the floor, this guy must weigh the double you do. It feels like you're carrying a fridge.
From your peripheral, you can see Satoru paddle to the kitchen's doorframe, probably wondering if you were preparing a meal for him or whatever.
"I'll be back in a moment, Ru." He meows a reply, dragging his mountain of fluff back to your couch- you're certain he's taking your spot, while it's still warm.
Thankfully, it doesn't take long for you to reach the bathroom, dropping the man leisurely upon your fluffy mat. Beside all the cuts, the man has already a plentiful share of permanent scars, and none are of your business, you don't care. It's like cleaning and stitching up a old doll full of tears, by the way you're able to maneuver his limbs; you're glad he's still unconscious.
But the thing around his shoulders is not.
In a blink of eye, it jumps from his shoulder to yours, attaching itself to your back and nestling upon your shoulder. When you glance down at it, it feels like a weird looking parrot.
"Hi?" You ask, it looks back at you. "Are you like, his pet or something?" It doesn't talk, just gazes at you through half lidded eyes; so you give up on short talking it, not knowing what you expected yourself. "Let's go finish my movie then!"
You join Satoru on the couch, the cat rapidly making room on your comfortable lap; and the man forgotten, snoring soundly on your bathroom.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A sequel and half movie later, you hear a loud thud coming from the kitchen. Even though you're aware there's a strange in your house- the sudden sound still naturaly jolts you out of your seat.
"UGH- Goddamn it-" Next comes a colorful list of slurs; a sigh makes way out of your mouth.
You round the corner, pointing a accusing finger to the strange man, who's laying on your floor again. "No cussing on my house."
"Why didn't you even clean this floor, it's loaded with glass shards."
"I wanted to finish my movie afternoon before doing so. Besides, what made you smash through there," You point to the ruined window. "to here." Then, to the kitchen floor. And finally, motioning to your whole apartment.
That was a interesting question, he expected a "Who are you?" or "I'm calling the cops!" call.
"I don't need to explain you shit."
"Think of it as an retribution, since I patched you up, answer my question."
"No."
"That, or you'll pay for my window."
A sigh. "Fine. I was being chased."
"You're a criminal, then?" You questioned.
"Yes." A devilish grin made its way to his face, showing canines and stretching the small scar on the corner of his mouth.
"Alright, just don't get me involved then."
Toji is familiar to that sort of outcome. Sometimes people man up, people weaker than him. But he knows he's intimidating, and he absolutely loves to play with the attitude of those who challenge him.
Forgetting the shart carving on the sole of his feet, he walks up to you efortlessly, towering over your frame.
"Well, are you not scared to have a criminal inside your house?"
"No, I'm not defenseless. And, you're bleeding. Again."
"Shit." Toji sits down close to the wall where it's safe, twisting his leg to bring the injured foot up to his face. He easily plucks the reddened shart between thick digits, and throws it far away from him.
Meanwhile, you bring your first-aid kit up to him, setting it down near.
"Here, use this."
"..."
"I'll do it for you then." You wasted no time, reaching for the line and thread. Once everything was stitched, you wrap a bandage around his foot, then pats it finished. "What's your name?"
"Fushiguro Toji."
"I'm L/N Y/N, lost all your bite huh?" You tease.
Casually ignored. "Why do you have a first-aid kit? Most people don't have it on their houses."
"I practice muay thai, it's useful both for me and you."
"Right. Have you seen my worm?"
"Well, make yourself at home, until your feet gets better. And yeah, your worm jumped at me like those surprise music boxes, and now it's on the couch with my cat. It's been watching movies with us."
He was beyond curious, because the worm didn't have a thinking mind nor knew what even meant to watch something. Toji limped to the doorframe, eyes widening once he spotted the worm wrapped snuggly around your very fluffy cat.
"That's some cute shit."
"The worm is gross."
"I think it looks cute."
"You're batshit crazy."
You stretched your limbs. "Whatever, let's waste some more time watching TV."
Toji sat down - mind you, taking a handful of space you were not content with - once you picked up "both" animals to make room. He thinks you're weird, seeing the fact you didn't question what the hell was that giant-purple-moving worm, and for letting in a random guy inside your house. You do fight a martial art, though, but most people wouldn't have such confidence on him - a dude build like a truck.
There's some survival show playing in the background, yet he's beyond bored watching it, so he settles in questioning your questionable manners.
"How are you so chill about everything?"
"Oh well," You seemed focused on the show, surprisement showing itself once you turn to him. "I see these things in a daily basis, so it's really no big deal after a while."
"Curses?"
"Yep."
"You-"
"I'm going to clean the kitchen. Also, I ask you once the skies darken, to leave my house."
"..."
"Is there a problem?"
"I got no hideout out there."
"Suuure you don't." You sighed. "Alright, the couch is your best option; if I hear rumbles at night, or if you steal me or something, I'll be the one chasing you."
"Right, have fun cleaning the blood stained kitchen."
"The audacity." You left with a smirk, shaking your head.
Although you're weird, so far, you're also the most interesting individual Toji has come up to par with; something in this house prickles at his skin to stay. Plus, the fluffy cat laying on his lap is very cute aswell.

Mini Fanfic #968: Nightly Star Gazing (Sonic)
10:34 p.m. at Outside of the Smash Mansion's Rooftop......
Shadow: (Lets Out a Loud Yawn While Stretching his Arms Up)
Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly at the Ultimate Lifeform) Well, gee, Shadow! I know it's already night out, but don't tell me you're tiring out on me already.
Shadow: (Starts Rubbing his Eyes a Little) Apologies.....Work was a lot more exhausting than usual today.
Sonic: How exhausting are we talking?
Shadow: Well, Instead of doing more mission objectives, the general assigned us to either do more combat training, run a few errands, or finish off a mountain top of paper works. Guess who was picked to do the latter.....
Sonic: (Turns to Shadow With a Smirk on his Face) A moody Ultimate Lifeform who just so happens to be a huge Momma's Boy and us sitting right beside me?
Shadow: (Turns to Sonic With a Deadpinned Look on his Face)
Sonic: (Shrugs) Hey, you told me to guess.
Shadow: ('Sigh') And I already regret doing so....... It's a miracle I was able to finish them all in time. Now I can finally start enjoying my Spring Vacation in peace tomorrow.
Sonic: (Smiles Brightly) Nice. What's your plans?
Shadow: Resting. As well as spending more time with everyone here. (Turns to Sonic) You have any plans of your own for this week going forward?
Sonic: Yep. I have a movie date night with Amy Friday. (Smirks Smugly While Using his Knuckles to Rub his Chest) Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty sure the movie that we'll be watching is a sequel involving around yours truly, in case you've already forgot~
Shadow: (Starts Rolling his Eyes in a Bit of Annoyance) How could i ever forget something you constantly brag about since the day it was first announced?
Sonic: (Wraps his Arm Around Shadow's Shoulder) Ah cheer up, faker. If the movie sells very well and your lucky, there might be a good chance for you starring in a few more sequels~
Shadow: (Raises an Eyebrow) And you think I care why exactly?
Sonic: (Uses his Finger to Whip Under his Nose) Cuz I know you're jealous of me deep down.
Shadow: Me? Jealous of YOU of all people?
Sonic: Yep. Says it all on your face. And aside from having two movies under my belt, I also have more charm, charisma, and free time in my life than you wish you have.
Shadow: Yet you'll never reach the same status of an Ultimate Lifeform. (Crosses his Arms) Pitty, I know.
Sonic: ('Psh') Please. Being an all powerful being doesn't mean squat in the popularity status.
Shadow: Tell that to the goddess, witch, one winged angel, and Kirby living here.
Sonic: ......Okay. Besides them. Other than that, you'll always be a grumpy faker in my eyes.
Shadow: (Rolls his Eyes Again) And here I thought we established that the both of us are our own person.....
Sonic: Yeah, but what else am I suppose to call you on a daily basis?
Shadow: Your superior?
Sonic: (Immediately Gives Shadow a Deadpinned Look on his Face)
Shadow: What? That's the only thing I can come up with.
Sonic: And that is why you're keeping the Faker nickname until you die.
Shadow: ('Sigh') Whatever.
The boys looks back up at the night sky, gazing upon the bright stars and moon.
Shadow: The night looks more vibrant than usual this evening.
Sonic: I know, right? It gets more prettier each night apart. I love it.
Shadow: I agree. I think it's already starting to make me forget how tiring the workday was.
Sonic: (Smiles Brightly) Nice! I told you a night of star gazing would do ya good.
Shadow: ('YAWN') Yeah.......Glad you managed to convince me at the last minute......
Sonic: And the yawning returns......(Turns to Shadow) You sure you had enough sleep.last night?
Shadow: ('Sigh') Positive. (Starts Rubbing his Eyes Again) It's just those stupid amount of paper works got me out of it lately. And now the thought of everything work related is back. Greeeeat......
Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly) Yeeah, I think it's high time we start heading back inside now. (Starts Getting Himself Up From the Rooftop He Was Sitting At While Stretching a Little) Can't have you fall off here in your sleep, now can we?
Shadow: (Sighs While Getting Up Himself) Right. I'd rather not get myself caught up in a near death situation tonight. My pillow is awaiting for my face to return as speaking,.
Sonic: (Starts Snickering) Your pillow?
Shadow: It's been a long day, Sonic. Let me imagine my pillow having the process to think for once.
Sonic: (Holds his Hands Up Roght in Front of Him a Bit Playfully) Alright. You're the Pillow Boss. (Makes his Way Back Inside With Shadow Following Behind) But in all honesty, I'm glad you're taking another vacation. Heard you've been working way more harder there than usual.
Shadow: (Shrugs) Well, you know me. Always doing whatever I can to protect those I care about.
Sonic: No doubt about that. But you do know we wanna do the same for you, right?
Shadow: I know. You really don't have to, but.....(Smiles Softly) I appreciate the sentiment all the same.
Sonic: (Looks Back at Shadow Smiles Before Turning Back Foward) ('Heh') Yeah, well, you better. Or I might have to tell mom that you're overworking yourself again.
Shadow: ('Hmph') Snitch.
Sonic: Momma's Boy.
Shadow: Takes one to know one, faker.
Sonic: Ditto, nickname stealer.
Shadow: You know it's not too late to call me your superior.
Sonic: I will never call you that in a million years, Shadow. Still respect ya, though.
Shadow: I respect you too, Sonic. Not completely, but-
Sonic: Don't ruin the moment, man.

"Welcome back with the 7 o'clock news! Here’s one last hour: at this moment the International Rescue has just heroically rescued a family from a dangerous situation. The disastrous incident, which occurred in a solitary lost house in the mountains of Wuhan, China, involved the rescue of 5 children and a mother, and the heroic intervention of our rescuers, as depicted in this video." The presenter departed to the side to allow all the families present behind the big camera to be able to see the long-awaited video, which represented the pilot of the green Thunderbird along with his co-pilot, recently returned. Both were pulling out the mother and children, fortunately all alive, from the rubble of the house collapsed on itself. You could see the pilot with the yellow sash looking around seriously, before his face turned into a smile, greeting the few journalists gathered, while the pilot with the green sash hid his face from the cameras walking quickly, neither of them giving a word to the press.
"Wow, what a nice comeback after so much..." Gordon grunted, settling better on the back of his seat.
"They practically hit us. Are you okay puffer?" Virgil answered, watching him out of the corner of his eye while he kept his 'girl' in the air.
"Yes. Not as bad as for the...first day." Gordon replied, sighing.
"After the accident it was fair for you to feel that way. You’re just a little out of shape after so much time with those casts."
Gordon subconsciously touched his arm, although it wasn't hurting, remembering how he had gotten that cast on his arm for a few months. He owed Penny a big favor. Then he stretched. "Let’s get this family to the hospital and then we’ll go home."
"How do you measure this day from 1 to 10?" Virgil asked, looking at him directly this time.
The blond considered it for a moment. "Meh, a valid 7. I’m a little rusty. I just want to go home and eat all the celery bars in the pantry." Virgil chuckled. "You?"
"Even if the day is not yet over I'll give it a 9. No tragedies today." Virgil replied.
They had arrived home, and the dinner had been delicious as always. Not really. After trying not to throw up at the table with the other brothers so that Grandma wouldn’t tie them all to some palm trees on the island, Gordon apologized to then go up to his room under the guise of resting for a moment before going for a bath, with immense relief from Virgil who, to be honest, could not see the moment, while all the other brothers disappeared in a heartbeat in various parts of the island not to be found by Grandma when she mentioned a possible dessert. Unfortunately, Scott did not escape in time, repeatedly making praying gestures while sitting at the table, while Grandma put some strange sugary concoction in front of him.
Gordon hurried up to his room, the place where he was most of the time during his convalescence. And in fact, he now wanted to be in the pool for a night swim, and here he is, sitting at the foot of the bed. But after that he would have gladly gone to the pool, maybe soaking all night, even naked if he wanted it. He didn’t care much about sleeping, despite what Virgil kept babbling about, even threatening to keep him nailed to the bed if it was necessary; after all, he had been living the good life between bed and sofa for a long time.
In his hand he had a stone with a paper attached on it, maybe nothing important, but his instinct strongly suggested to him to take it from the rubble. And there it was, in his hands.
During the rescue he had the bad feeling of being observed, and shortly after that rock had made his appearance. He cut off the card, laying the stone on the ground, and opened it with trembling hands. What he saw was enough to make him suddenly nervous.
There, in a wrinkled sheet and probably reused many times, there was a threatening message, consisting of many newspaper clippings glued together. Nothing unusual, you will think, the message will be addressed to the family and should be taken to the police for a good report. But no.
I just wanted to send you to your mom. I thought u missed her...I doubt she is proud of such a reckless child! Do you even remember her? Did she even love you? I doubt!
The message was exactly for him, and unfortunately it wasn't the only one. He did not have time to think further because suddenly a panic attack, also this familiar, began to cloud his sight. He lost no more time, making sure the door was locked properly and moving towards the stereo. His brothers would have tied him up somewhere, but he didn’t care. He put on a song, the first that came to his mind, cranking up the volume and starting to cry desperately at the melody of Caramelldansen, something a little ironic given the situation.
Once his breath was more or less regular, he stood up again, destroying everything that happened to him within range. It didn’t matter if it was the wall, the shelves, the bedside tables...he threw it all away in panic and rage.
He then began to look for something else, opening his closet door and throwing away clothes, shoes, hangers, everything within his sight, until he could see a box still piled between the clothes. He took it gently, his hands shaking violently and his face drenched with tears. He picked up with his nose, sitting at the foot of the bed, the one thing he had not destroyed, or at least not yet. He watched without any force left in his body the feathers fly in the air from the torn pillow, and then he returned to look at the box that he had just pulled out, labeled 'Mom’s memories'. Although, there was nothing belonging to his mom in that box.
In an almost feverish impulse he began to reread the other cards, compiled with the same technique, sent by the one who had helped to make his life a hell and to keep him relegated to this damn island. He felt the rage take hold of him again, so he crumpled all the cards again, throwing them against the wall with all the force in his body. When the second panic attack also calmed down, Gordon rose slowly, collecting all the wrinkled paper balls and placing them in the box, a new ball to add to the collection. He then collapsed on the floor tired, completely forgetting the idea of a swim in the pool.
John appeared to verify Gordon’s condition, and was greeted by the remix of What Are You Doing In My Swamp blasted at full volume, not that it surprised him.
Since the accident, Virgil had sensors applied to Gordon’s clothes to keep him under control and to note any changes in temperature or mood in the squid boy; and here, at this moment, all the values, from the heartbeat to blood pressure, From body temperature to constant mood swings, everything was through the roof. Too much.
Once he had taken control of his stereo and turned off the music, massaging his throbbing temples, John was greeted by a view that made him widen his eyes from the shock. What the...?

I was reading your 2019 masterlist and fell absolutely in love with Lover and the idea of a cold, soft Tommy cuddling up to you. I was wondering if you could write about a sick Thomas going all soft and useless and needy and having you take care of him? I adore your work and can't think of a better person to write it, but I don't really wanna pressure you and if you don't want to there's no problem. Thank you!

Lover - Part 2 - Thomas Shelby x Reader
Lover - Part 1
Absolutely loved writing Lover, so this is absolutely no problem!! Who wouldn't love a sick and needy Tommy?! I decided to make this a sequel to Lover, because of course Tommy would get sick from sleeping outside lol. Enjoy!
*****
"Oh, Tommy." you sighed, shutting the bedroom door behind you.
"Huh?" he groaned out, voice muffled due to his being under a mountain of blankets. His endless nights sleeping out in the meadow or the pasture had finally caught up with him. He had gotten quite sick, and now you had made it your duty to take care of him.
"Nothing, Tom. I'll get you some tea." you chuckled, plucking a pillow off the floor and placing it on the sofa.
You proceeded to go to the kitchen. Tea always seemed to help with colds, you thought. Especially when the person wasn't sick enough to warrant getting a doctor involved. Tommy was just crashing extra hard due to the fact he almost never stopped working. The poor man was working himself into the ground.
After boiling water, you poured two cups of tea. You weren't really sure which kind of tea it was, but one of the staff in the kitchen recommended it. She knew you were taking care of Tommy. It was sort of a running joke that you were the only one who he would let take care of him. No one else had gotten this close, and so some of the women liked to help out through you. It was admirable that Tommy had a staff of such kind women. They all cared for him, even if he would never notice it.
You were thinking about Tommy's influence as you walked back to his room. When you met him as a young girl, he had the same kind of pull. He just made people like him, whether he did it intentionally or not. He was probably aware of how influential he could be, but only to a certain point. People loving Tommy seemed to baffle him most of the time. He didn't understand why because his opinion of himself was so low. It was why he pushed to be the best. It was as if he needed to prove to the world that he could rise above them all. It was something you loved about him. His determination would take him all the way to the top.
Sometimes, however, it would take him into bed with a cold.
"I've brought tea, Tommy." you said quietly as you walked back into his bedroom. You hoped maybe he had fallen asleep. You also knew his fear of nightmares was strong. On occasion, you felt certain that he had only let himself sleep when you were near him. It was endearing, but entirely unhealthy.
"I don't want tea. I want this fucking cold to go away." he muttered out of frustration.
"I know, Tommy. It'll go away soon." you responded with sympathy, before kicking off your shoes.
You walked around to his side of the bed and pulled back some of the pillows and blankets. As you did so, you felt a wave of heat radiate from him. Uh oh.
"Don't. It's fuckin freezing in here." he complained, clinging to some of the blankets.
"Tommy, look at me." you ordered. He noticed your shift in tone, and turned to face you right away.
You placed the back of your hand upon his forehead, and it only confirmed your fears. His skin was hot, more hot than it should be. Thomas had a fever.
"What is it?" he asked, confused and shivering.
"You've got a pretty high fever. I should call for a doctor." you explained, worried.
As you began to turn to find a phone, he snatched your wrist. It was easy to tell how weak he had gotten by just that one touch, and your heart threatened to break. You were used to him being the epitome of strength, and now this sickness was sapping away all his energy.
"No. No doctors. I only trust you." he said, voice pleading.
"If you're being serious, you'll have to do what I say." you argued.
"Yes, yes I will." he nodded, eyes fluttering shut and his fingers releasing your wrist.
"Alright, well let's get you back to full health!" you declared before promptly removing all blankets from the bed.
"Hey!" he complained, curling in on himself once he was uncovered. All he was wearing were his boxers. You did your very best not to stare.
"I'm sorry, Tommy, but it's for your own good. You're too hot." you explained, giving him an apologetic smile.
"You think I'm hot?"
You paused what you were doing to find his face. Tommy was grinning to himself. You snorted in amusement, and continued to fold the blankets and sheets from the bed. Even sick with a fever, the man was still as cocky as ever.
After folding the blankets, you sought out a water basin and some cloth. You needed to bring his temperature down, but you weren't sure you could get him to a bathtub. You also poured him a tall glass of water from the pitcher you had brought in that morning.
"Tommy, sit up for me." you asked kindly, setting the basin and glass of water down on the nightstand.
On a normal day, the man would have been playful and had you move him yourself. Since he was sick and pliable, he did exactly as he was told. You found it endearing more than anything.
"What now, doctor?" he cracked an eye open to look at you. You couldn't help but smile and admire him for a moment. Your love for him was overwhelming at times.
"You're going to drink all of this while I'm going to wash you down with cool water." you told him honestly.
He just grunted in response, and shut his eyes once more. He kept them shut even as he began to drink from the glass. You could tell that he was trying to control his shivering, which just made the muscles across his body contract and release in random patterns. Again, you tried not to stare at his mostly unclothed body.
First, you dipped a cloth in the water and partially wrung it out. You then placed it over his forehead. He let out a long and slow exhale, but didn't say anything. Second, you wrung out another cloth. With this, you began to wipe down his arms and chest. Periodically, you dampened the cloth to cool it again. Every time, you watched Tommy's face to make sure he was doing okay.
"Thank you." he hummed softly, setting the now empty water glass back on the nightstand. He nestled back against the pillows, and even adjusted the cloth on his forehead to make sure it stayed in place. This was the most you had seen him do for himself in a long time.
"You're welcome." you smiled, and continued wiping him down.
Next, you went ahead and wiped his legs with the cooled water, too. You would make him take a proper bath tomorrow, but for now this would do.
At last, you went to tell him you were done. It was then that you realized that he had drifted off to sleep. All you could do was stare. He made you feel all soft and fuzzy inside.
Finishing his wash, you set the basin and cloths aside. His fever seemed to have broken during the process of cooling him, and you felt a little pleased with yourself. You loved him, and so loved taking care of him. Most of the time, it was he who was taking care of you. You were overjoyed to be able to return the favor.
You decided that he could have one sheet on the bed now, and that you would put more on if he got properly cold. You didn't want him getting feverish again. After tucking him in, you brushed his hair out of his face and placed a kiss on his forehead.
As he slept, you tidied the rest of the room. You pulled one of the curtains aside and propped opened one of the windows. The fresh air would not only cool the room, but it would also bring Tommy some peace. After all, he loved to be outside. It wasn't much, but it was a gesture that he'd hopefully appreciate when he woke.
Finally, you were done. Tommy was asleep, and your job was finished. You crawled into the bed next to him, and linked your hands together. You didn't want to get sick, but you also couldn't stand to leave him.
You whispered to Tommy, absolutely sure he was asleep this time, "I love you."

A/N: A lot of you wanted a continuation on Why do you think? so here you go, here’s quite a longer sequel to the previous shot. ALSO, this is M-RATED!!
There, you’ve been warned, go ahead and enjoy, Happy Easter y’all!
————————————
Kate was amazed by his beach house the second she sat foot here three hours ago. Her partner had showed her a tour of his property and she has to admit she can’t wait till tomorrow when she can lay out by the pool and work on her tan. Especially when she knows he’s going to be observing her.
“I’m going to make us some dinner, you want some wine?” Castle interrupts her thoughts and she puts away the book she’d brought.
“Yes please,” she raises from the couch and follows him as he walks into the big kitchen.
“Here you go.”
She accepts the red wine with a thanks and takes the first sip only to moan at the taste, not being prepared at the heavenly taste.
“You like it?” he asks with a smirk landing on his lips and she tries to scold her features.
“It’s good.” She walks to the windows to look out towards the beach while he starts cooking.
She takes another sip as she watches the waves sparkle in the moonlight. Some part of her can’t really believe she’s here, with him. She dumped Demming, they solved the case with the fake spies and now she’s here. All alone with her favorite writer who also happens to be her annoying shadow and the best partner she’d ever had. Another sip makes it past her lips and down her throat before her teeth sink into her lower lip. She’s here. She’s really here. Her mind can’t stop going to the things she secretly wants to happen. At the same time there’s a part of her that wants to resist, wants to protect herself and her heart from hurting the way she hurt when her mom was taken from her.
“What are you thinking about?”
She jerks at the sudden sound of his voice but tries to play it off by moving her hand through her hair.
“So, now even my thoughts aren’t private anymore huh?” she questions with a small tease hiding in her voice, her eyes finding his as he observes her.
“Oh,” a smirk lands on his lips, “so they’re private thoughts, got it.”
She rolls her eyes, shaking her head as she looks away again. “Shut up.” But once she knows he can’t see it her lips pull up in a smile and she has to bite it down in order not to grin. After a few more minutes she takes another heavenly sip and feels her cheeks get a bit warm.
“You know, if you want to we can always take a dip in the ocean later,” he suggests and she tries but fails to think about that.
Taking a dip in the ocean with him would definitely involve some touching and even though she wouldn’t mind one bit it just… feels strange. And then she remembers what she suggested only a day ago and she has to bite her lip again in order to try and push down her inner rebel that would do it within a heartbeat. The reason it feels so strange must be because she’s denied her all these thoughts for so long that it feels like they’re completely taking over her mind right now. It’s the only kind of thing she’s been able to think about for the past two days, apart from the case that is.
She’s lost in her thoughts again and next time he opens his mouth it’s to announce that the dinner is done. When she sits down to eat she can’t believe he’s been able to be quiet for that long, but she’s not focused on that issue for very long because the second the food gets on her tongue she’s distracted by the taste. She really can’t deny she’s missed his cooking from the days when she had to stay over at his place during that Nikki Heat case.
“This was delicious, thanks Castle,” she says once she’s full and can’t take another bite without bursting.
“Good, I hoped the silence meant you enjoyed it,” he teases and she rolls her eyes despite the smile growing on her lips.
“Well, I’ve never tasted it before, what’s it called?”
He chuckles and she furrows her forehead, wondering what’s so funny. “It’s called flying Jacob.”
Her forehead wrinkles even more. “Flying Jacob?”
“Yeah, it’s a Swedish dish. Apparently a man named Jacob created it or something, I found it once when I searched for new chicken recipes.” Castle explains as Kate drinks the last of her wine.
Kate’s mind starts racing again, without any warning, and she feels her cheeks blush at the thoughts. For some reason she was thinking about the poker game she halfway promised him. She raise up from her seat and puts everything of hers into the dishes while he takes his own parts before turning the leftovers into lunch boxes.
“So,” he starts once everything is done, “ what do you want to do?”
You. She bites her lip. “Are you up for some poker?”
She can practically hear the gulp he takes and tries not to grin at the knowledge she’s getting to him with that simple sentence. God, they were a mess.
“Sure,” he says as casually as he can. He offers more wine which she accepts before pouring a glass to himself, and then she follows him into the living room.
She takes a sip as she’s observing him taking out a deck of cards.
“You wanna play for money, or clothing?” he asks and she smirks.
————————————
Sitting in only her bra, panties and leggings has her skin tingling with excitement. She should be cold, because no matter how hot the weather was during the day it was always colder during the evening, but she wasn’t. She was actually kind of warm. Castle only had two items left, his boxers and his pants. She can see he’s just as excited as she is, especially since he can’t really hide his bulge. It’s hard to focus on the game, knowing he wants her as much as she wants him. But the fact that he hasn’t made a move makes her unsure of how focused he is, if he truly has that kind of self-control or if he’s waiting for her to make a move.
“So, what’s your next move?” she says in a teasing tone, has kept her tone teasing and lips in a smirk during the whole game.
That wine must’ve helped her confidence quite a bit, she makes a mental note to ask for the label later.
Kate observes his face the same way he’s always been observing her, and is still observing her at this moment. Her cheeks turn warmer and she bites her lip, knowing full well he can see the blush burning her face. He clears his throat and she wants to laugh, wants to put down her cards and just say “screw this”, but no matter how much she knows that’s where this is going she can’t yet get herself to do it. When they cross this line there is no going back. Then again, she dumped her boyfriend for him, because it killed her knowing he’d leave her if she didn’t stop fooling herself, and him.
“I’ll bet my pants,” he interrupts her thoughts and starts pulling off the jeans, putting them at the top of the small mountain of clothes they have between them.
His boxers are a dark blue and she feels her breath hitch a bit at the sudden thought of being the one pulling them off, the way she knows his skin would twitch under her fingertips. Or her tongue.
She shrugs out of her mind, put down her cards in order to pull off her leggings, letting them join his pants in the pile. “I’m not folding that easily,” she teases and sees his eyes roaming her body. Even though his sight isn’t at all somehow magical she can still feel how his eyes are leaving a trail of fire along her skin.
He gulps before turning his gaze to his cards again. “Hmm, I’m thinking about going All-In,” he emphasizes the poker-term while turning his eyes back on hers and she feels a chill go down her spine.
“Honestly,” she says putting down her cards and pretending to stretch her back from the sitting down at the floor for too long. Before he can do or say anything else, his eyes big as they follow her every move, she crawls towards him to take his cards and putting them down as well. “I don’t care anymore.” She leans closer with her face in order to let her lips barely touch his.
There’s no more encouragement needed because before she knows it his hands land on her hips and pulling her onto his as his mouth takes hers in a demanding demeanor she isn’t used feeling from him. His fingers dig into her naked skin just above her panties and she can’t help but start grinding onto him, her tongue seeking permission to enter his mouth. She can’t believe how he’s already got her panting, out of breath yet not willing to break away because fuck his taste is invasive and so damn enchanting and addictive and she never wants to stop. One of his hands gets adventurous and she feels it land on her buttcheek, squeezing to pull her closer, as if that was a possibility. His bulge is poking her in just the right way and she moans when his tongue swirls around hers in a dancing pattern.
Kate lets her fingers wander into his hair, feeling the thickness and softness of it makes her heart skip a beat. She can’t believe she hasn’t done this before, let down her guard like this, given in. It’s what part of her brain had told her to do ever since his first offer after that first case. She loses her breath and has to pull away, which to her surprise results in his lips landing on her throat, kissing her pulsepoint driving her pulse crazy. One of her hands lands on his shoulder, massaging in a way she’s never found herself doing on anyone else. It was almost like his lips and touches was possessing her own touches and moves. His tongue sticks out and licks her skin as he places wet kisses down her throat, her neck, and before she can question why he moves away she feels his breath blowing air onto the wet spots and it sends electric waves down her body straight to her core.
“Castle,” she pants and feels his grin once his lips attaches to her neck once again.
He trails his lips down and she isn’t aware of his hand at her back until he’s unclasped her bra and his mouth takes one of her breasts in a sucking matter making her whimper at the feeling. On another note she’s very much aware of the fingers trailing the hem of her panties, dipping inside without any warning and she loses her breath at the sudden connection of his fingers against her wet folds.
“Damnit Beckett,” he groans and she wonders if he truly has no idea how much he’s able to turn her on. If only he knew what his fictional representations of him and her having sex had done to her.
When he starts rubbing her she has to grab a hold of his hand to stop him, she’s so damn close and she hasn’t felt him inside her yet. She wants to feel him first, doesn’t want her first time coming with him being due to riding his fingers. Lifting her body off of his she starts pulling at his dark blue boxers stating “off”, and it doesn’t take him a nano-second before he’s helping her out of her own panties. Just as she’s about to take him inside her he’s holding her hips to stop her.
“Are you sure?” he asks and she feels her heart swoon at him. He’s not planned on just using the situation they’re in and taking her, he’s making sure she truly wants this as much as he does, not just physically but mentally too. It makes her even more sure of the decision she made two days earlier.
“I’m sure, I want you. Just you,” she reveals and after they’ve searched each other’s eyes for a minute, both confirming this was something they both cherished and wanted, the two of them dives deep into each other. Touching, kissing, connecting. Turning each other into moaning messes as they reach their highs together and falls over.
————————————
“Hey, you want some sun lotion?” Castle asks and Kate squints her eyes in order to look at him walking towards her and she can’t stop the smile from spreading on her lips.
“I think you covered it pretty well the first time,” she says in a mocking tone and he chuckles.
“It was worth a try,” he states and she laughs.
“Yeah, like all the other times you try.”
“Can’t blame a man from loving his wife,” he shrugs his shoulders and she sits up in order to raise from the chair.
She closes the distance between them in order to lay her arms around his neck in a hug, his arms finding their own way around her body. She steps onto her toes and kisses his lips.
“Come on, let’s make use of that pool, I’m burning,” she says and he laughs, kisses her lips once more before the two of them races to the pool.
THE END

Self indulgent Star Wars/ His Dark Materials AU thoughts
Since Star Wars names are weird I won’t be following the canon HDM daemon naming conventions.
Daemons:
-Anakin’s daemon is a Golden eagle named Bellator (meaning warrior in Latin.) two hotheaded, independent parts of an impulsive whole, they don’t always get along. But when they’re able to stop bickering, they make an unstoppable team.
(Also bellator can be scary af, and represents Anakin’s aggressive side.)
-Padmé’s Daemon is a snow white deer named Japor. Like her, her daemon is tough but kind, and definitely turns heads.
-Independant and wise, Obi wan’s daemon is a raven named Valiant (Val for short). He has a very good relationship with her; they’re best friends.
-Luke’s settles as a mountain goat, sturdy and adaptable like him. I think her name would binaria.
-Leia’s settles as a badger named Alderaan.
-Han’s is a fennec Fox named Treband.
-Mace windu’s is a grey parrot, not sure what her name would be.
-Ahsoka’s daemon is a snowy owl, and her daemon is the same gender as her bc she’s gay. Is it lame to say her name would be fulcrum?
-palpatine’s daemon is something nasty like a slug.
-I love the sequel trio but too lazy to fit them into this AU so deal with it.
Lore:
-Shmi was severed from her daemon when Anakin was young by the black market daemon merchants. As a result, she and Anakin live as outcasts of society, until shmi eventually dies from the heartbreak of living without her daemon.
-Anakin tracks down those responsible for severing his mother’s daemon and kills them one by one to take vengeance. One of the black market daemon merchants happened to be connected to a Magisterium authority, and Anakin’s act gets found out. However, the Magisterium’s leader , Palpatine, is impressed with how skillfully he carried out the executions and presents Anakin with a proposition: his crime will go unpunished, if he agrees to work for the magisterium. Anakin agrees, though he secretly plans to overthrow the magisterium. He hates the magisterium’s child-cutting experiments because of what happened with his mother, but he agrees to take on the position of overseeing them because he believes it is the only way to become powerful enough to take the Magisterium down.
-along the way, he meets Heretic! Padmé, who is secretly orchestrating plans to lead a rebellion against the Magisterium. She isn’t a scientist like asriel, but she knows how to pull strings to get funding for scientific investigations. Both powerful figures in this society, (like coulter and asriel) Anakin and padmé are instantly attracted to each other, and they have a fling.
-However, Padmé doesn’t know exactly how high up Anakin is in the magisterium, and what his role is. When she finds out that he is involved with the child-cutting- even after hearing the whole story- she hides that she is pregnant and cuts off contact with him. They have a lovers to enemies relationship inspired by Marisa and Asriel and it's literally the sexiest thing imaginable
-Heretic! Padme brings her and Anakin’s children, when they are born, to Jordan College, and leaves them in the care of the scholars there, who she is good friends with. She believes they will be safer if she does not raise them, as her heretical resistance puts a target on her back.
-The members of the Jedi Council are jordan scholars. Yoda is the Master of Jordan. Mace Windu teaches military strategy, Obi Wan teaches an impressive variety of subjects ranging from philosophy to astronomy to fencing. (Yes, fencing. He runs the fencing club, to the surprise of everyone who joins the club on a whim.) Oh, also, Bail and Breha work there and teach politics
-Luke and Leia are raised by obi wan, who shares knowledge with them. Instead of being force sensitive, they can read the aleithiometer. They live at Jordan college, and make its hallways their playground like Lyra.
-Padmé visits them often and tells them stories of the rebellion she’s building, they idolize her and hope their daemons settle like hers.
-Han Solo is an orphan child the same age as Luke and Leia who they are good friends with. When he’s taken by the child cutters, they have to enlist their mother to help to get him back, and she lets it slip that their father works for the general oblation board.
-ever altruistic Luke is convinced that there is "good in him" and that together him, Leia, Obi wan and padmé can help bring him back from the Magisterium.
-Ahsoka is an aeronaut. Asajj Ventress is a witch.
-no I do not take constructive criticism. I am simply right.

Every Book I Read in 2019
This was a heavier reading year for me (heavier culture-consumption year in general) partly because my partner started logging his books read, and then, of course, it’s a competition.
01 Morvern Callar; Alan Warner - One of the starkest books I’ve ever read. What is it about Scotland that breeds writers with such brutal, distant perspectives on life? Must be all the rocks.
02 21 Things You Might Not Know About the Indian Act; Bob Joseph - I haven’t had much education in Canada’s relationship to the Indigenous nations that came before it, so this opened things up for me quite a bit. The first and most fundamental awakening is to the fact that this is not a story of progress from worse to better (which is what a simplistic, grade school understanding of smallpox blankets>residential schools>reserves would tell you), in fact, the nation to nation relationship of early contact was often superior to what we have today. I wish there was more of a call to action, but apparently a sequel is on its way.
03 The Plot Against America; Philip Roth - An alternative history that in some ways mirrors our present. I did feel like I was always waiting for something to happen, but I suppose the point is that, even at the end of the world, disasters proceed incrementally.
04 Sabrina; Nick Drnaso - The blank art style and lack of contrast in the colouring of each page really reinforces the feeling of impersonal vacancy between most of the characters. I wonder how this will read in the future, as it’s very much based in today’s relationship to friends and technology.
05 Perfumes: The Guide; Luca Turn & Tania Sanchez - One of the things I like to do when I need to turn my brain off online is reading perfume reviews. That’s where I found out about this book, which runs through different scent families and reviews specific well-known perfumes. Every topic has its boffins, and these two are particularly witty and readable.
06 Adventures in the Screen Trade; William Goldman - Reading this made me realize how little of the cinema of the 1970s I’ve actually seen, beyond the usual heavy hitters. Ultimately I found this pretty thin, a few peices of advice stitched together with anecdotes about a Hollywood that is barely recognizable today.
07 The Age of Innocence; Edith Wharton - A love triangle in which the fulcrum is a terribly irritating person, someone who thinks himself far more outré than he is. Nonetheless, I was taken in by this story of “rebellion”, such as it was, to be compelling.
08 Boom Town: The Fantastical Saga of Oklahoma City, Its Chaotic Founding, Its Apocalyptic Weather, Its Purloined Basketball Team, and the Dream of Becoming a World-class Metropolis; Sam Anderson - Like a novel that follows various separate characters, this book switches between tales of the founding of Oklahoma City with basketball facts and encounters with various oddball city residents. It’s certainly a fun ride, but you may find, as I did, that some parts of the narrative interest you more than others. Longest subtitle ever?
09 World of Yesterday; Stefan Zweig - A memoir of pre-war Austria and its artistic communities, told by one of its best-known exports. Particularly wrenching with regards to the buildup to WWII, from the perspective of those who had been through this experience before, so recently.
10 Teach us to Sit Still: A Sceptic’s Search for Health and Healing; Tim Parks - A writer finds himself plagued by pain that conventional doctors aren’t able to cure, so he heads further afield to see if he can use stillness-of-mind to ease the pain, all the while complaining as you would expect a sceptic to do. His digressions into literature were a bit hard to take (I’m sure you’re not Coleridge, my man).
11 The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences have Extraordinary Impact; Chip & Dan Heath - I read this for work-related reasons, with the intention of improving my ability to make exhibitions and interpretation. It has a certain sort of self-helpish structure, with anecdotes starting each chapter and a simple lesson drawn from each one. Not a bad read if you work in a public-facing capacity.
12 Against Everything: Essays; Mark Greif - The founder of N+1 collects a disparate selection of essays, written over a period of several years. You won’t love them all, but hey, you can always skip those ones!
13 See What I Have Done; Sarah Schmidt - A retelling of the Lizzie Borden story, which I’d seen a lot of good reviews for. Sadly this didn’t measure up, for me. There’s a lot of stage setting (rotting food plays an important part) but there’s not a lot of substance there.
14 Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy; Angela Garber - This is another one that came to me very highly recommended. Garber seems to think these topics are not as well-covered as they are, but she does a good job researching and retelling tales of pregnancy, birth, postpartum difficulties and breastfeeding.
15 Rebecca; Daphne du Maurier - This was my favourite book club book of the year. I’d always had an impression of...trashiness I guess? around du Maurier, but this is a classic thriller. Maybe the first time I’ve ever read, rather than watched, a thriller! That’s on me.
16 O’Keefe: The Life of an American Legend; Jeffrey Hogrefe - I went to New Mexico for the first time this spring, and a colleague lent me this Georgia O’Keefe biography after I returned. I hadn’t known much about her personal life before this, aside from what I learned at her museum in Santa Fe. The author has made the decision that much of O’Keefe’s life was determined by childhood incest, but doesn’t have what you might call….evidence?
17 A Lost Lady; Willa Cather - A turn-of-the-20th century story about an upper-class woman and her young admirer Neil. I’ve never read any other Cather, but this felt very similar to the Wharton I also read this year, which I gather isn’t typical of her.
18 The Year of Living Danishly: My Twelve Months of Unearthing the Secrets of the World’s Happiest Country; Helen Russell - A British journalist moves to small-town Denmark with her husband, and although the distances are not long, there’s a considerable culture shock. Made me want to eat pastries in a BIG WAY.
19 How Not to be a Boy; Robert Webb - The title gives a clue to the framing device of this book, which is fundamentally a celebrity memoir, albeit one that largely ignores the celebrity part of his life in favour of an examination of the effects of patriarchy on boys’ development as human beings.
20 The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (And Your Children Will be Glad that You Did); Philippa Perry; A psychotherapist’s take on how parents’ own upbringing affects the way they interact with their own kids.
21 The Library Book; Susan Orlean - This book has stuck with me more than I imagined that it would. It covers both the history of libraries in the USA, and the story of the arson of the LA Public Library’s central branch in 1986.
22 We Are Never Meeting in Real Life; Samantha Irby - I’ve been reading Irby’s blog for years, and follow her on social media. So I knew the level of raunch and near body-horror to expect in this essay collection. This did fill in a lot of gaps in terms of her life, which added a lot more blackness (hey) to the humour.
23 State of Wonder; Ann Patchett - A semi-riff on Heart of Darkness involving an OB/GYN who now works for a pharmaceutical company, heading to the jungle to retrieve another researcher who has gone all Colonel Kurtz on them. I found it a bit unsatisfying, but the descriptions were, admittedly, great.
24 Disappearing Earth; Julia Phillips - A story of an abduction of two girls in very remote Russia, each chapter told by another townsperson. The connections between the narrators of each chapter are sometimes obvious, but not always. Ending a little tidy, but plays against expectations for a book like this.
25 Ethan Frome; Edith Wharton - I gather this is a typical high school read, but I’d never got to it. In case you’re in the same boat as me, it’s a short, mildly melodramatic romantic tragedy set in the new england winter. It lacks the focus on class that other Whartons have, but certainly keeps the same strong sense that once you’ve made a choice, you’re stuck with it. FOREVER.
26 Educated; Tara Westover - This memoir of a Mormon fundamentalist-turned-Academic-superstar was huge on everyone’s reading lists a couple of years back, and I finally got to it. It felt similar to me in some ways to the Glass Castle, in terms of the nearly-unbelievable amounts of hell she and her family go through at the hands of her father and his Big Ideas. I found that it lacked real contemplation of the culture shock of moving from the rural mountain west to, say, Cambridge.
27 Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of Lusitania; Erik Larson - I’m a sucker for a story of a passenger liner, any non-Titanic passenger liner, really. Plus Lusitania’s story has interesting resonances for the US entry into WWI, and we see the perspective of the U-boat captain as well as people on land, and Lusitania’s own passengers and crew.
28 The Birds and Other Stories; Daphne du Maurier - The title story is the one that stuck in my head most strongly, which isn’t any surprise. I found it much more harrowing than the film, it had a really effective sense of gradually increasing dread and inevitability.
29 Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Faded Glory; Raphael Bob-Waksberg - Hit or miss in the usual way of short story collections, this book has a real debt to George Saunders.
30 Sex & Rage; Eve Babitz - a sort of pseudo-autobiography of an indolent life in the LA scene of the 1970s. It was sometimes very difficult to see how the protagonist actually felt about anything, which is a frequent, acute symptom of youth.
31 Doctor Fischer of Geneva or The Bomb Party; Graham Greene - Gotta love a book with an alternate title built in. This is a broad (the characters? are, without exception, insane?!) satire about a world I know little about. I don’t have a lot of patience or interest in Greene’s religious allegories, but it’s a fine enough story.
32 Lathe of Heaven; Ursula K LeGuin - Near-future sci-fi that is incredibly prescient about the effects of climate change for a book written over forty years ago. The book has amazing world-building, and the first half has the whirlwind feel of Homer going back in time, killing butterflies and returning to the present to see what changes he has wrought.
33 The Grammarians; Cathleen Schine - Rarely have I read a book whose jacket description of the plot seems so very distant from what actually happens therein.
34 The Boy Kings: A Journey Into the Heart of the Social Network; Katharine Losse - Losse was one of Facebook’s very earliest employees, and she charts her experience with the company in this memoir from 2012. Do you even recall what Facebook was like in 2012? They hadn’t even altered the results of elections yet! Zuck was a mere MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, probably. Were we ever so young?
35 Invisible Women; Caroline Ciado Perez - If you want to read a book that will make you angry, so angry that you repeatedly assail whoever is around with facts taken from it, then this, my friend, is the book for you.
36 The Hidden World of the Fox; Adele Brand - A really charming look at the fox from an ecologist who has studied them around the world. Much of it takes place in the UK, where urban foxes take on a similar ecological niche that raccoons famously do where I live, in Toronto.
37 S; Doug Dorst & JJ Abrams - This is a real mindfuck of a book, consisting of a faux-old novel, with marginalia added by two students which follows its own narrative. A difficult read not because of the density of prose, but the sheer logistics involved: read the page, then the marginalia? Read the marginalia interspersed with the novel text? Go back chapter by chapter? I’m not sure that either story was worth the trouble, in the end.
38 American War; Omar El Akkad - This is not exclusively, but partially a climate-based speculative novel, or, grossly, cli-fi for short. Ugh, what a term! But this book is a really tight, and realistic look at the results of a fossil-fuels-based second US Civil War.
39 Antisocial: Online Extremists, Techno-Utopians, and the Hijacking of the American Conversation; Andrew Marantz - This is the guy you’ll hear on every NPR story talking about his semi-embedding within the Extremely Online alt-right. Most of the figures he profiles come off basically how you’d expect, I found his conclusions about the ways these groups have chosen to use online media tools to achieve their ends the most illuminating part.
40 Wilding: The Return of Nature to a British Farm; Isabella Tree - This is the story of a long process of transitioning a rural acreage (more of an estate than a farm, this is aristocratic shit) from intensive agriculture to something closer to wild land. There are long passages where Tree (ahem) simply lists species which have come back, which I’m sure is fascinating if you are from the area, but I tended to glaze over a bit. Experts from around the UK and other European nations weigh in on how best to rewild the space, which places the project in a wider context.

Upon request, here is a rec list of fics where Harry and Louis fight or argue over the course of the fic. While there is at least a small argument between them in the vast majority of fics, we tried to narrow this list down to include fics where there’s either a larger fight or a bunch of smaller ones. Happy reading!
1) Forever, Uninterrupted | Explicit | 8578 words
Harry finds a mysterious picture in Louis' bag one night and drives himself crazy over it. It's definitely not what he thinks. An excuse to write Harry in rut, because there's already so many heat fics out there.
2) Poppies In May | Explicit | 9457 words
And maybe he deserves it, Louis thinks bitterly. His hand curls around the fence tightly, and he feels like if he lets go he’ll slid onto the cold ground and never fucking get up again. Maybe standing here, staring at Harry’s hunched over, retreating back is what he deserves.
3) 3B Neighbor | Explicit | 10407 words
A mysterious neighbour keeps slipping the worst sort of notes under Harry's door.
4) Rather This Than Live Without You | Explicit | 10715 words
Harry decides to give it all up. Louis refuses to be left behind.
5) We Should Get Jerseys | Mature | 12147 words
Harry is a hockey player, and Louis is his slightly melodramatic boyfriend.
6) No Bleeding Hearts | Explicit | 12651 words
“I’m going to come out,” Louis says abruptly. His grip on the controller is tight, knuckles whitening. He doesn’t look at Harry when he says it.
“What?” Harry says. Louis sucks in a breath through his teeth.
“When we re-negotiate our contracts. I’m going to come out.” Harry fumbles with the controller and manages to set it down on coffee table without cracking it in half.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Harry says. Louis is still pointedly not looking at him.
“I’m not having this argument with you again, Harry,” Louis tells him. He leans forward and deposits his own controller on the table beside Harry’s before standing up. “I’m gonna go to the hotel.”
7) Know You Got That Thing (That I Like) | Explicit | 15798 words
Note: This fic has a BH mention.
In all the ways he thought about their reunion going, watching Louis finger himself open was not on the list.
8) Wait For Me (To Come Home) | Explicit |  16066 words
A future fic of time stamps where Louis finally comes to grips with a love he'd denied for too long.
9) My English Love Affair | Explicit | 19198 words
The thing about sleeping with a member of a famous indie band is that the inevitability of having a song written about you is most likely a hundred percent. The second thing is that in the end, nobody's supposed to find out it's about you.
The one where Harry writes a song about his English love affair and Louis sleeps with someone in White Eskimo and all he gets is a stupid song written about him.
10) Dance Like Warriors On A Battlefield | Explicit | 20083 words
Down in the arena, the triumphant gladiator places his foot on the back of the loser, holding him there as he waits for instruction on his next move. Kill or let live. It’s barbaric, really, the bloodlust involved in this sport. Louis is pretty sure that if it wasn’t for his distaste for the killing there would be a lot more blood soaking that sand.
As it is, his father rarely gives the kill order anymore. He gives the order to let the loser live. Louis rolls his eyes, turning away. He doesn’t miss the way the gladiator’s eyes linger on him.
11) Up To No Good | Explicit | 26525 words | Sequel #1 | Sequel #2
Harry doesn’t think of himself as a womanizer, not at all. Sure, he enjoys sex, enjoys how women feel underneath him, and by some people’s standards he has sex with quite a lot of people, but that’s no reason to tell him that he can’t have a female PA anymore.
It’s especially no excuse for giving him a male PA who’s possibly the most gorgeous boy in the world who won’t even let Harry look at him for too long.
Sometimes Harry hates his life.
12) All The Lights are Full Of Colour | Explicit | 26727 words
So, fast-forwarding eight years from the day Harry met Louis, he is now a twenty-seven year old owner of one of the most up-and-coming eating establishments on the London restaurant scene, father of two wonderful boys and… separated from his husband. Now, that last part definitely was never a part of the original plan.
13) Time Out | Explicit | 27539 words
Harry and Louis are perfect for each other.
Everybody knows it.
They know it, their friends know it, everybody knows it.
That's why Zayn, Liam and Niall won't let them get away with breaking up.
No chance in hell.
14) Carnelian | Explicit | 30631 words
Louis finds himself donating blood to the most beautiful being he’s ever seen.
15) Where The Lights Are Beautiful | Mature | 31170 words | Sequel
The accidental bonding a/b/o fic.
16) Close To Nowhere | Explicit | 34589 words
Louis and Harry are psychics who kind of hate each other. They go to Tennessee to investigate a haunting.
17) No Matter Where You Are (No Matter How Far) | Explicit | 35799 words
An Everest AU where Louis sets out to climb the tallest mountain on the world and meets a curly-haired guy named Harry who worms his way into Louis’s life. It’s not long before reaching the summit becomes the least of Louis’s worries.
18) The Things I’d Do To Wake Up Next To You | Mature | 36019 words
AU. Harry wakes up to a pregnant Louis Tomlinson and a wedding band on his finger.
19) Bloodsport | Explicit | 40283 words
“You know how our next game is against the Cardinals, right? You remember how vicious those guys can get. I wanted us to come up with some plays, maybe work on a block from the left--” Louis stops when he hears a chuckle. He doesn’t think he’s said anything particularly funny, so he turns to Harry, waiting for an explanation. "‘S funny, ‘s all.” Harry throws his finished bottle somewhere near the other discarded ones. “This is the first time you’re talking to me in eight months, and it’s still about football.”
20) The Sweetest Incantation | Explicit | 40598 words
Harry is a witch who's still working on developing his powers and Louis is a werecat who falls into his life and turns it upside down.
21) Falling Into Place | Explicit | 40754 words
Louis and Harry spend nine years apart but inevitably find their way back to each other.
22) Another Hazy May | Explicit | 41043 words
Louis is a terrible poet and Harry lives in the now and they have six weeks to fall in love but, really, it only takes six seconds. Bookshop meets military meets summer romance AU ft. Malboros, the Backstreet Boys, and underrated literary devices.
23) Show Me Life Like I’ve Never Seen | Mature | 42953 words
Louis never expected to leave the small art studio three blocks down from his job with anything besides the painting he caught a glimpse of and simply couldn't forget.
24) Can I Not Like You For A While? | Explicit | 43346 words
Louis Tomlinson is awful. Harry is just as difficult, and they’re both terrible to each other. It makes being in the same acapella group together quite complicated.
25) Just A Feeling | Explicit | 43977 words
Note: This fic is a sequel to this fic.
The first time that Harry thinks about marriage in relation to Louis, he’s eighteen years old, standing in the middle of a crowded frat house, six drinks down and another in his hand.
It’s not the first time that he’s laid eyes on Louis. It’s not even the second time, or the third time, but Harry doesn’t believe in denying what his brain is trying to tell him, and his brain has been telling him that Louis might be the prettiest person in the world ever since that first fateful meeting, when Harry hadn’t been able to stop looking and Louis had ‘accidentally’ spilled his tea all over Harry’s lap in retaliation.
26) Love's Truest Language | Explicit | 48193 words
“I don't want your flowers.” Louis chided before directing all of his attention to the arrangement in front of him. Harry laughed under his breath as he stood to his full height, “Who said anything about them being for you, love?”
27) Tug-Of-War | Explicit | 55475 words
Louis' husband dies suddenly and he is left with nothing. Well, not really nothing. He has Harry. And a St. Bernard puppy named Link, whom his late husband left behind for him. Louis takes care of Link and Harry takes care of Louis. Everything is okay until suddenly, it isn't.
28) Into The Midnight Sun | Explicit | 63523 words
It's 1983, Harry embarks on his first world tour and Louis is a budding actor in LA. Life spent apart isn't easily adjustable, but somehow they make it work.
29) Why Can't It Be Like That | Explicit | 63567 words
A fashion AU with a royal twist, where Louis doesn't need a stylist, Harry's thrilled to have a real life Barbie doll, and they're both very wrong about each other.
30) Perfect Storm | Explicit | 80230 words
What do you do when your best friend asks you and your (now) ex to be the best men at his destination wedding? You can either tell him the truth, tell him you’re not together anymore, and deal with the consequences, or you can pretend you’re still together and roll with it, just pray you don’t spiral. Fake it ‘til you make it. You know, for the sake of the wedding. Harry and Louis choose the latter.
31) Pinkies Never Lie | Explicit | 83615 words | Sequel
AU in which Louis hates his job and loves Harry, Harry just wants a distraction, everyone else wants them to get their shit together, and Louis learns the hard way that new beginnings are only possible when something ends.
32) I Want You So Much (But I Hate Your Guts) | Mature | 83648 words
AU in which Louis gets accepted to play for the Manchester University Alpha-Beta Football Team. The only problem: Louis is actually an Omega. He is determined to make it big in the football world, though, and he can't do that bound to an Omega team. With the help of a faked doctor's certificate and some pretty strong suppressants he is ready to fight for his dream. That Harry Styles (Alpha, second year and youngest football captain of the A-B team in ages) doesn't seem to like him complicates matters, though.
33) Electing Strange Perfections | Explicit | 84757 words
Back for the summer from university, 19-year-old Louis is faced with a massive problem: their new gardener is quite possibly the most gorgeous man he's ever met. Over the course of the summer, Louis and a 25-year-old Harry will learn that love can be found where you least expect it.
34) For Reasons Wretched and Divine | Explicit | 94655 words
Ten years ago, Harry Styles was just a nerdy kid with one friend and a debilitating crush on the captain of his school’s football team. He thought the stars were smiling down on him the day he and Louis Tomlinson were paired for their end-of-term Literature project. But because Harry’s life is decidedly not a fairytale, the budding friendship quickly leads to the least happy ending of all time. Now, Harry Styles is a household name. Barely twenty-seven with two Grammy nominations to his name, the singer-songwriter is poised to take the music industry by storm with his highly anticipated third album. So, what happens when the best producer in the business is also the only person Harry’s vowed never to speak to again?
35) Blue Ice | Mature | 102967 words
An AU where Louis finds himself in a marriage he didn't bargain for.
36) A Taste Of Desire | Explicit | 104414 words
A Victorian ABO where Harry is the owner of the most successful cotton mill in Manchester, and Louis is an opinionated social activist about to disrupt Harry’s world.
37) Tainted Saints And Velvet Vices | Mature | 126056 words
A self-fulfilling Hogwarts AU in which Louis is new to seventh year and Harry is the resident devil-may-care Slytherin set to make his entire experience a living misery. Due to less than favourable circumstances they're forced to forge an unwilling, tentative relationship for their own survival. Repressed emotions, decidedly unromantic ballroom dancing, Triwizard Tournament tasks, creative jinxes and twilight flying above the Forbidden Forest ensue.
38) All I Want | Mature | 289307 words
When Harry and Louis got together it wasn’t under the best circumstances. Louis was taken by another. But go figure that the way they ended up together is the very same way it ended. And Harry left Louis. He left him with a lot more than he thought. A story about how people’s misconceptions almost destroyed a love that went beyond measure.

Gretel & Hansel: White people, hear me!
Tumblr media
I know, I know, some of y'all were hoping that my next review would be Taylor Swift's "Miss Americana".
Tumblr media
I'm sorry to disappoint you. Why and how is she still making movies anyway? I thought that everyone associated with "Cats" had been banned from Hollywood.
Now, it WOULD be cool, if Taylor got involved in Horror. I'm thinking that a bunch of horror monsters could get together to track her down; kinda like a contest. They would, you know... do their thing to her, and then bring her back from the dead in the sequel, and repeat the process. Every now and then, they could throw in Justin Bieber or someone else with his same level of annoyance. BOOM! Franchise! So, donate to Praphit Productions (millions), so I can make that happen. I'll just CG Taylor Swift in, if I have to; I'm sure she'd be ok with that.
Tumblr media
Just picture Jason Voorhees or Kanye West chasing her.
No, people, I'm here to talk to y'all about Hansel & Gretel!
Tumblr media
No, no, no, I'm sorry! "Gretel and Hansel!"
I almost forgot about that blow up in their studio. Y'all remember that?
Sophia Lillis' (who plays Gretel - SHE’S GREAT IN THIS-BTW) first day on the set was raw!
Tumblr media
She walked up to the director and was like "Bleep this bleep! Who is Hansel? Who the bleep is he?! No one knows that actor! What is he, like 5 years old? Bleep him! How is his name first?! So, a woman can't lead a man, huh??! It's always gotta be Hansel first, right?! And what always happens?! That witch bitch always tries to eat them! Bleep that! Y'all know who I is! I'm Sophia bleeping Lillis! I was in "It" one AND two. What has "Sammy Leakey" (playing Hansel) been in??!
Tumblr media
Not a damned thing! I want my name first! You will put it first or so help me God, I will UNLEASH THE FURY!"
Director (Oz Perkins): "I actually like that idea"
SL: "I don't give a bleep what you like! Just make it happen!"
Then, she went to her trailer, and when she came back out, it was "Gretel & Hansel".
Tumblr media
(Hansel’s not even in the shot. Lillis was too raw for him.)
Let's see if Gretel fairs better in this story, now that she's getting the chance to lead.
We all know this Brothers Grimm story. There's a family (I don't know what Gretel & Hansel's last name is... we'll just say "Shakur"). So, the Shakur Family was struck by a famine in the land. Stuff happens, and G & H end up off on their own, in the woods, and eventually meet up with a witch, who later tries to eat them.
White people, hear me! Are you listening? STOP GOING INTO THE WOODS! Seriously, STOP! I'm trying to save you. Black people know better, but y'all... smh. I know y'all like to go hiking, and camping, and taking selfies on mountain tops and shit, but PLEASE... STOP! Nothing good is waiting for you out there!
Quit going into the woods to get footage of alleged monsters/spirits. Quit going into the woods to spend the night in cabins. Quit going into the woods to party on the anniversary of the night that 12 people were mysteriously murdered in those same woods. STOP!
JUST STOP! DAMN!
Some of you might be thinking, "Well maybe Gretel will make it. Maybe now that she's leading the duo, things will be different." Nope, she's white... *sigh* so we all know what she and Hansel did...  went right into the woods.
This movie is mainly from Gretel's perspective. Right from the jump, we see Gretel being pimped out by her mama. Gretel of course declines to become a professional hoe, but when she comes back to her mama for a possible different direction in life, Mama is like "Would it have killed you to get on your knees for your family?! We're starving!"
I know - Mom of the Year.
Dad isn't even around. I may have missed something, but I don't remember where he was, or if maybe he ran away, a long time ago. One of those "Daddy went to get a pack of cigs, and never came back" scenarios. He may be off in a land flowing with Big Macs and Fries, Idk. Or maybe, being that his "selfish" daughter wouldn't put-out, he decided to get to work on the corner himself. Who knows where he was in this movie??
Gretel was def tough though. And she loved her brother! She was very protective of him. There is a scene where there's some sort of vampire creature chasing down Hansel, and Gretel stands up to the creature. That's the type of character that she is in this movie. She's smart, tough, and though sometimes hard on her bro, she loves him very much.
Hansel on the other hand is annoying as shit. And Dumb! Man, is he dumb! I'm surprised that we never see Gretel slap him. But, she is always able to compose herself in the midst of her annoying brother, and keep the journey going. She even calms him down at one point with some drugs. They end up eating some shrooms on their trip. Now, THAT'S love, people! Seeing someone in need of calming the bleep down, and offering them some good shit. What's a road trip without a moment when the group gets high??
There's a Lando-looking character that they meet along the way.
Tumblr media
He doesn't have much of a role in this movie. I'm not saying it's because he's black, BUT he's a fascinating, noble character, who's black and barely in the movie. And they do not trust him at all. I'm not saying it's because he's black... you know what?? - YES! Yes I am saying that!
He saves their lives, offers them food and shelter, and gives them specific instructions that will keep them safe. But, after that (the only character so far that has had G & H's best interests in mind), Gretel immediately questions his motives. White women, hear me! If a black man willingly sticks out his neck for you, IN THE DARKNESS, in order to save YOUR life, that's a man that you can trust. Cuz we (black men) all know, that if we try to save a white woman out in public (even if we succeed), there's a good chance that the cops will still swing by to shoot us. They're thinking just like Gretel is in this movie - "I know it LOOKS like they saved her, but... can we really trust him? - let's shoot him just in case." Granted, this Landoish character sends them off (again with instructions for their safety). They had no quarrels about leaving (and quickly).
So, they runaway from the compassionate black man, who just saved them, and they meet an old lady (the witch) who has black fingers, and house smells a lil like death... and they say to themselves "Let's sleep here!" Ain't that some shit??!
White people, HEAR ME!
STOP!
They don't even question her black fingers, they just let her handle their food. I question people of whom I don't know, with normal fingers, handling my food, but... I guess that's just me.

Then, the rest of the story is legend.
The production design in this movie is absolutely amazing! If this film had no dialogue, and was just silent, it still would have been a beautiful movie (despite the cannibalism:)
The plot, I felt, was secondary to the cinematography.
Some of you might say, "Well that's nice and all, but is the movie scary? Does the witch, at some point, rev-up a chainsaw, and chase the two kids around her house?" No. "Ok, but does the movie, at some point, have little, pale Asian kids making creepy noises at H & G while they're trying to sleep?" NO! "Yeah, but is there some sort of human centipede action happening in the basement of the witch, and she tries to..."
NO! NO! HELL NO! What's wrong with y'all?!
No, none of that. The story that The Brothers Grimm have painted is horrifying enough. Famine and crappy parenting, leading to witch who wants to eat you... I'd say that's all that's required; the director knows this.
They don't need to use any gimmicks, just the same story (pretty much), a lil dark magic, the mentioned cinematography, and well-placed spooky music keep the movie in a consistent place of dread.
I think RT got this one wrong (59%). I don't have much bad to speak of, concerning this movie. I can't give it an A grade, due to it being a copy of a story that we've seen copied many times before. Plus, there are some ending issues I have with it, that I'll get to in a sec. BUT, this film is a hell of a B grade :)
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
I WARNED YOU!
A few things:
Soooooo, Gretel has some sort of connection to the witch that is never explained. Apparently, she has within her, the same powers as the witch.
She ends up sending her bro off to Lord knows where. She sends him off on a horse that she says she SPOKE TO, and he (the horse) will get Hansel there (where? who knows??) safely. So, she's talking the animals now?? When did she pick-up that skill? And where the bleep did she even get a horse?
There's some super grease that her and the witch use to do magic, that is never explained.
Now, none of this took away from my enjoyment of the film, but... still though.
There's a message of false empowerment at the end. Like I said, she abandons her brother, so that she can... fulfill her destiny or something. She has dark magic in her, but she is convinced that she'll use it for good. Like I said, Gretel is a SMART character... what happened to all of that smart? It's like saying "Hey, I have this STD, but instead of tending to it, I'm going to use my STD for good. It's going to be hard, but I've gotta be strong."
WHAT?!
I said "false empowerment". The movie isn't painting a picture of this being a good thing, but the "false" part is subtle enough to where people could walk away thinking it's an empowering message.
You abandoned your brother to become a witch! But, maybe I'm not being fair. Perhaps Gretel will be just fine. Throughout the history of human beings, we've had many people who were in power, and who thought that not allowing their power to be checked was the brave and noble thing to do. I think those times in history all worked out well right??
I could have added some pics to accentuate my last statement, but I feel it might have been a little too real:)
So, instead I'll leave y'all with this slightly less horrifying pic

Afraid of the Unexpected
Tumblr media
Peter Kavinsky x Reader
Words: 1889
Part One
Summary: After the Ski Trip goes awry, you completely rethink your relationship with Peter. All the while, the entire school has turned against you according to the Gen’s plan. You team up with Lara Jean and try and figure things out before the can snowball any further.
Notes: Here it is! I really liked writing the first part of this story and I wanted to give it a happy ending. (I have also now realized that Gwen is actually Gen, so my bad! And I’ll be changing it for this fic) This is also the final part so I won’t be taking requests for more, however, it is going to be on a somewhat cliffhanger, so I might write some smaller sequels just for fun.
Your cousins were protective, to say the least. You were the only girl in the family with four older boy cousins, all very outdoorsy mountain men types. You spent the rest of the weekend surrounded by flannel clad towers of testosterone that wanted to take a pick axe to everyone at your school after hearing what happened. Despite their bear-like personalities, they made sure that you were comfortable all weekend, never letting your cup of hot chocolate run empty.
“How are you feeling?” Your oldest cousin, Adam, wondered, sitting down beside you on the porch. The morning air was brisk but you liked it. You shrugged. “I’m fine.” He chuckled.
“I know you too well, Y/N. You are so not fine.” He leaned forward in his seat. “Has your friend tried to contact you?”
“If you mean texts, emails, calls, and every other known communications device on the planet… then yes.” You sighed. Peter had been trying to get a hold of you from the moment that you left the lodge. The school would be driving back today. He’d be riding the bus alone. With Gen. You felt a sick feeling creeping its way into your stomach. You couldn’t tell if it was guilt for not responding or the impending doom that you would eventually have to see him again. To see everyone again. You weren’t sure if you could face it.
“So who’s ass are we kicking on Monday?” Sam, the more rambunctious of the four, asked, plopping down next to you.
“You are not kicking anybody’s ass.” You objected. He pouted and took a bite of his muffin. “Seriously, you guys have done enough for me. I definitely don’t want to add assault to the list.” The twins, Sawyer and Simon, were only a few years older than you were the last two to join.
“That’s to bad. We were so looking forward to meeting your boyfriend.” Sawyer joked, earning a stern look from his oldest brother. You stared out at the mountains surrounding the cabin and sighed. None of this was ever supposed to happen. You never should have let Peter convince you to go on that stupid trip.
The first day back from break, Peter searched the halls for you, but he wasn’t able to get far without Gen appearing in front of him with a satisfied look on her face. He shook his head and pushed passed her, clenching his fists.
“You’ll be lucky if she shows her face again.” Gen called after him. “This school has enough sluts without her.” Peter froze, still facing away from her. “I mean, she’s probably slept with half the guys in school. After that kiss at the lake, you’d better either get in line or get away from her before she fucks you over to.” Now Peter turned around, fuming.
“What the hell is wrong with you, Gen?” He spat. “Y/N never did anything to you. She was quiet and sweet and kind. She was a better person and a better friend than you will ever be.” He stepped forward so that their faces were only inches apart. “I don’t know why I ever dated you.”
He went to his first class, leaving Gen gaping and alone in the middle of the hall. Once everyone was gone, you stepped out from behind the bathroom door, having heard the entire encounter. You couldn’t breathe. He defended you. Not only that, but he stood up to Gen for you. Your mind reeled as you stepped slowly out into the hallway, only to be intercepted by Lara Jean.
“Why the hell haven’t you been answering your phone?” She exclaimed.
“I’m sorry,” You sighed, “After Peter kept calling me, I just turned it off.” She took your hand and ushered you into an empty classroom.
“You can’t just keep avoiding him. He was a mess on the ride home.” She sat on one of the desks and you did the same beside her.
“You think I don’t feel guilty about just leaving like that?” You sniffed, feeling all of the emotions come rushing back. “That I haven’t wanted to pick up the phone every time he called?” You blinked back tears and tapped your fingers on the desktop. “But I don’t know what I would say.” She blew out a breath and moved so she was standing in front of you.
“Look,” She began sternly, “I know that you’re all about schedules and planning and knowing what’s going to happen next, but you aren’t going to make it through life being afraid of the unexpected. You need to tell him how you feel, and don’t think I don’t know.”
“We’re just friends, Lara Jean!” You exclaimed. “That’s all I’ll ever be to him. I’m the weird girl with her nose stuck in her journals and he’s the all-star lacrosse player. It’s a miracle he even wanted to be friends with me, let alone something more.” You looked down at the floor and Lara Jean put her hands on your shoulders.
“You are so much more than that. And if you really think Peter cares about your differences, then you don’t give him enough credit.” Her eyes were filled with sincerity and you couldn’t decide if that made you feel better or worse. “Now man up and go tell him that you love him.”
“Lara!” You exclaimed, blush rushing to your cheeks. She smirked.
“Let’s go.”
You’d managed to avoid him for most of the morning because you didn’t have any classes together. It wasn’t until lunch that you came face to face. His eyes were filled with so many emotions, you didn’t know which hurt more- the confusion, the pain, or the utter sadness. You took a deep breath, and with the support of Lara Jean standing beside you, you didn’t run.
“Hey,” He greeted softly.
“Hi.”  You replied awkwardly. Lara Jean nudged you forward. You took a deep breath. “Can we talk?” A small spark of hope broke through all of the sadness in his eyes.
“Hey Y/L/N!” A voice called out from across the cafeteria. You turned around to see Curt Landon and his friends, making kissing faces and lifting up their shirts, moaning loudly. Peter’s fists clenched and he started towards them.
“Peter don’t.” You grabbed his arm. You felt a hand smack your ass as another one of Curt’s friends passed by and the group of guys erupted with cheers and laughter. Peter grabbed the back collar of the boy’s shirt and turned him around. Before the boy could react, Peter’s fist collided with his nose. “Peter!” You yelled. Lara Jean pulled you out of the way just before the fight began.
“Oh my god,” She gasped as you watched the fists fly and blood spurt from both boys’ mouths.
“Peter stop it!” You cried, the entire cafeteria egging them on with shouts and cheering. It wasn’t until two teachers burst through the crowd of gathered students that they were able to break the two apart. Peter looked at the tears streaming down your face and guilt washed over his features as he was dragged off to the principal's office. Everything was spiraling out of control and as you fled the cafeteria, Gen’s glare did not go unnoticed.
“You think you're so much better than me, don’t you?” She spat, following you and Lara Jean out of the cafeteria. “You keep to yourself because nobody else can stand being around you. He’s never going to care about you.” Lara Jean kept walking, ignoring her words, but you stopped and turned around.
“You know what your problem is, Gen?” You asked. She seemed taken aback like she hadn’t expected you to respond. But her surprise was just replaced by more haughty anger. “You are so scared of being alone that you tear down anyone that you decide poses a threat, even if it pushes people away. If you were just kind, if you just treated people like a decent human being, maybe you wouldn’t be so alone.” You shook your head with a bitter laugh. “I feel bad for you.”
Without another word, you left with Lara Jean, feeling oddly powerful. You finally realized that Gen couldn’t hurt you. She was just a mean girl from high school that you would forget in two years. She had no power of you and you couldn’t help but smile.
You were leaning on the hood of his car when he finally made his way out to the parking lot. He’d be getting a week of detention for fighting, but the other boy got three days suspension for the added sexual harassment. They’d also be investigating Gen and Curt and the rest of his friends that were involved. Everything was resolved except for one thing.
“How are you feeling?” You wondered, noticing his black eye and bruised jaw.
“You should see the other guy.” He chuckled, pulling himself up onto the hood as well.
“Not that I’m okay with you fighting,” You started, looking up at him, “but thanks.” He shrugged, pretending to be nonchalant.
“Guys should never treat a girl like that.” He stated plainly. “And at the lodge, I wanted to punch all of those assholes, but I needed to go after you. When you left, I didn’t really know what to do.”
“I shouldn’t have run off like that.” You felt shame rise in your cheeks. “I don’t want you to feel like it was your fault, because it wasn’t. I was just so confused and hurt and I felt like you wouldn’t look at me the same way-”
“I like you.” He interrupted you. You froze. “A lot. I think I always have. This whole thing with Curt doesn’t change that.” You couldn’t stop the smile spreading across your lips and the corner of his lips lifted into a crooked smile. You sighed with a laugh.
“The funny thing is, it isn’t even true.” You ran a hand through your hair and he jumped back down onto the pavement, standing in front of you. “We went on one date and when he kissed me and started putting his hands up my shirt, I told him to take me home and we never went out again.”
“Son of a bitch.” Peter scoffed angrily. You shrugged.
“I’ve gotten over it. Some guys just can’t deal with being rejected, I guess.” You were surprised when his fingers started to lace themselves through yours.
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you about the kiss.” He began awkwardly. “I never thought it was a mistake. I was hoping that you feel the same way.” You nodded. You weren’t afraid anymore. He grinned and the two of you leaned in, your lips finding each other with purpose. It felt right. He was your best friend and you were in love with him. Sure things would be complicated, but you didn’t care. Sometimes life is unexpected, but it's often the surprises that make it worthwhile. It wasn’t until you heard the roaring engine that the two of you broke apart.
“Oh no.” You gasped, watching the two massive pickup trucks drive into the parking lot. Peter looked at them with a confused expression as four guys started walking towards you.
“Who are they?” he wondered. You gulped.
“My cousins.”

The Princess & The Nomad (6)
Sequel to The Captain and The Culprit! With your hypnosis gone and your identity fully known, you and Steve reunite and pick you right where your left off. But with The Avengers disbanded and a new danger looming in the future, what’ll keep everything from falling apart?
If you knew that being Tony’s assistant would involve going back and forth in non-stop arguments, trying to decipher his handwriting, and permitting him from doing something stupid every ten minutes, you would’ve paid Pepper and the rest of The Avengers their respects a long time ago.
Malibu had grown on you, waking up to an incredible view of the ocean, staying in a place that was complete with a gym, fully stocked kitchen, and a movie room. But Tony couldn’t handle being in the house that got blown up- twice- for very long. So he would be in and out, going to work meetings, science conventions, a few premieres and lunches.
You’d tag along whenever you got the chance, but he also didn’t want to run the risk of General Ross finding out he was basically harboring a fugitive. Some days you were resorted to pacing the mansion, speaking to FRIDAY and occasionally Pepper, and viewing the news for any update on where Steve could possibly be.
Time to time you’d help Tony out in his garage/tech cave, fixing up his suits, testing them out and sparring with them. Tony wasn’t too happy about the last model you managing to punch a hole through, but was still impressed.
You went back to meditation, sitting at the glass wall in the living room, facing the endless ocean. You tried to do your best to focus on connecting with Heimdall again. You’d only been able to get in contact with him once, he was successful in reaching your family and warning them about Loki posing at Odin. They escaped to Vanaheim just before Loki could get to them.
“Heimdall, give me sight.” You breathed.
When you open your eyes you were under the stars of Asgard once more. You scan your surroundings, and spot Heimdall a few feet away. He was on the edge of the mountains, resting but only for a moment to speak with you.
“My Princess.” He bowed “Glad to know you are well.”
“I extend my best wishes for you Heimdall. What as occurred? Why have you gone to the mountains?”
“Loki has the entire kingdom convinced I am a traitor to the throne. This is the safest place I can be for the time being, while keeping an eye on the kingdom and the bifrost.”
You turn towards the glow of Asgard and your heart aches for it.
“He has a new keeper, a fool. Uses the bifrost to bring forth possessions from Midgard.” Heimdall shook his head disapprovingly
“But no harm as come to the people?” You ask
“No, although he has conjured a clone of you. Spinning a web of lies that I had you bewitched. But now you prepare for a future coronation when you finish your studies.”
“Would it not be easier saying I fled to Earth? A strange man my uncle, his mind games must grow tiring.” You frown before turning back to Heimdall “Have you been in contact with my father?”
“I’m afraid not my Princess. It is not his time to return home.”
“Asgard hangs on edge of corruption and destruction and you say the rightful king is not ready to return home?”
“I have seen the fate of Asgard.” Heimdall stares off in the distance “All will come to pass.”
“But my father… Is he safe?”
“As safe as he can be.”
“And by that you mean?”
“He’s being reckless, but it is to gain the attention of other rulers of the nine realms. It’s working.”
“I’m sure it is.” You look back over Asgard “Odin says it would be my destiny to rule Asgard some day. Is that what lies ahead?”
“Princess, you need rest. We shall speak again soon.”
“Heimdall do not-” you blink and you’re facing the ocean again and huff out in frustration “Asgardian men. It’s Asgardian men that annoy me the most.”
You go to settle in your self assigned spot on the large sofa, and turn on the news to binge on your daily intake of info. There was the usual basic news about stock markets and political exchanges, including the latest update from Wakanda. A few more headlines about the crime rate and celebrities but nothing about Steve or the others.
“What’s going on sparky?” Tony waltz up from the downstairs garage, dressed in jeans, a graphic t-shirt and a blazer, carrying bags from Panera bread take out in his hands
“Nothing, absolutely nothing is going on. I’m bored, Tony. Not that I don’t appreciate you taking me in and all but I wanna go out. I can’t just sit here, watching the news, waiting for Steve’s face to pop up on the screen, telling me he’s been captured or worse.”
“(Y/N)-”
“I promise I’ll be careful and won’t go looking for trouble.”
“I know you won’t for looking for it, but us being who we are, trouble seems to find us. You are literally a beacon of energy, and it just takes one slip up.” He explained “Can’t run the risk.”
“Is this the same man that escaped captivity from terrorists? Who put a nuclear missile through a black hole in space? Who postponed dying to save The Stark Expo and discovered a new element."
“Rediscovered. Are you trying to say I’ve gone soft?”
“I merely asked a question, you concluded with answer.” You go to reach for the bag of food he brought “Did you get the Mac and cheese with the bacon or chicken this time?”
“Screw it, get dressed we’re going out.” He jumps up from the couch and heads back down to the garage discarding his jacket along the way
You silently praise yourself and follow behind him, shimmering on a new outfit along the way. “Where are we going?” You bounced on your toes, ready to leave.
“Fight night, we’re going to a MMA fight.”
“It’s not an illegal enhanced human one is it?”
“Nope, just good old fashioned humans beating the crap out of each other.” He hands you an earpiece and secures the housing plate for his latest suit on his chest
“I thought we weren’t looking for trouble.”
“We aren’t but if some goes down then we need to be prepared.” He held out an arm to you “Princess.”
“Man of Iron.” You wrap your arm around his and let him lead you to one of his cars
You knew Tony had star power, but you hadn’t really seen it in full effect until you reached the venue and an usher was escorting the two of you to the VIP viewing room, result of a “last minute cancellation”. The whole room was filled with other high rollers, drinking and laughing with each other. A few stopped to greet Tony, while you begin to feel extremely out of place.
“You’re a Princess, you can handle these clowns.” Tony nudged you forward when he sees you getting ready to retreat into a corner “Sit, I’ll get us some drinks.”
He’s off once more before you can protest, so you direct your attention to the two fighters in the ring. You can’t help but critique the barbaric nature of the match when you compared it to your training with Sif. Sloppy jabs and counter blocks, it was a surprise to you that they were considered champions.
“How long do these things go on for?” You ask once Tony returns with your drinks
“Ten rounds, or until someone gets knocked down or forfeits.”
The match continued for at least two more rounds before Tony is up again to refill your glasses. Something small falls from his pocket, without thinking you pick up the small flip phone, examining it with curiosity. Why would Tony Stark of all people have a flip phone?
You continue to play with it, flipping it open and close before actually looking at the screen. There was nothing there, no pictures, no songs, no apps, not even a call history. But there was one contact, and you feel your heart leap.
‘Hey, what’s going on?’ Tony says into the static filled earpiece ’(Y/N) the comms and arena lights are going out.’
You jump up from your seat, rushing back into the hall way and pace along the floor. Your finger hovers over the call button. What would you say to him? Could you ask him to come back? Would he want you back? Was he safe? Was he with another woman? Before you knew it you pressed the button and had the phone to your ear. With every ring your heartbeat picks up, waiting to hear his voice. Just when you think he won’t answer the line clicks.
“Tony?” Steve spoke and you feel your heart stop for a second
The phone is snatched away from you, Tony hangs up the phone.
“Car, now.”

[Kingdom Hearts 3 Review]
Welp I’ve finally done it, finally played and finished KH3! - After intentionally delaying doing so with my day one copy after finding out for some silly reason - it lacked multiple world visits for development sake and had no Final Fantasy characters - so I decided to finish the games I was in the middle of then replay the entire KH franchise, except the ones you could watch. Gonna leave my thoughts below. Just in case there are those out there still trying to avoid legit spoilers!
There were good and bad elements to this game.. Plenty of my experience that I enjoyed, but I believe more so that I didn’t - which made me want to pull out my hair. But I like my head shaved, so that wouldn’t work lol I liked the graphics, beautiful but I knew a PS3 could handle them as the quality of Woody in this game was the same as him in Toy Story 3 (2010 Video Game). Enjoyed the gameplay, though it felt like a flawed, floaty and broken version of Kingdom Heart’s 2 near perfect improvement of Kingdom Heart’s gameplay. A problem was the fact that in the first two main games, even when I was level 50-60′s - I always felt like I could DIE. It was always a fear during major combat moments. I had to concentrate so much just to be successful. Even if I tried to be a higher level then recommending through grinding. I never felt like that in KH3, every moment was such a cake walk. Even the final battle. Did they even try. Regardless, I had a good time with the gameplay and the visuals. But I wasn’t as drawn in as previous games. It did the game no favors and was a massive flaw, it lacking Final Fantasy characters. We should of been able to explore Radiant Garden or had other worlds relevant to FF characters. They were really important to Sora’s development as a Keyblade wielder. Cloud and Squall for sure. Sora wouldn’t be who he is if he hadn’t encountered and spoke to them. They’d of been useful in multiple sequences. We deserved the next part to Cloud’s issues with Sephiroth. That wasn’t resolved. See how Squall/Leon and the others reacted and dealt with what was going on at Radiant Garden. They’re capable of other world travel, seeing how they’d react to some of the new worlds would of been great as well. Nomura confirmed the only Noctis he’d put in KH was his Noctis. Versus XIII Noctis. And interest in doing so. Yet he wasn’t in the game, when as an Anti-Hero of both light and darkness would of been interesting. Seeing he’d take neither side. Also has important factors in common with Rapunzel and Elsa. Seeing them relating over this would of been nice. The lack off FF adds to factors that make KH3 be disappointing experience - along with an enjoyable one. One of the things that still makes KH2 the best. Was how awesome it was to watch the Final Fantasy characters and Disney characters team up in the battle of 1000 Heartless. One of the best aspects about the franchise is the concept of it being a FF x Disney - a Final Fantasy and Disney collaboration. Multiple visits were really needed. Some of the worlds were quite enjoyable and not frustrating. But they all have different percentages of feeling rushed and not fleshed out enough due to one visit. And some annoyingly treated Sora like he didn’t matter. Just acted like making you watch rushed unfinished version’s of the original Disney movies. Sora’s just there like. Oh look, it’s Sora over there! Hi Sora! You don’t matter here! Shouldn’t be like that. The Disney characters should be well blended into the Kingdom Hearts plot and Sora in the plot of the Disney world. The story made me feel emotional, I enjoyed all the Kingdom Hearts parts, even if I felt some of them were rushed or not written well. Tears did leave my eyes. I liked how Aqua didn’t actually give into Darkness, it was Ansem’s fault. I liked the reunion, final battle sequences and all the stuff leading up to it. My favorite parts to praise are the deaths of all Org 13 members, each made me feel emotional and I wanted to see those character’s again reborn. Not so much young Xeraxnort. But Ansem and Xemnas? Oh the feels there, they were strong. I clapped. I felt there could be more with Larxene in the game in general, including her end. Luxord’s! Clap, really want him to come back and play cards with Sora. Riku Replica’s was great too. Both Riku Replica’s. Marluxa’s.. Vanitas’s was disappointing. However, these great moments aren’t enough for me to forgive those disrespected by this game. The one’s from the worlds you could visit. I’ll get to the unforgivable bits last. Toy Story’s new story and world were great. I loved exploring that world and playing through it. The development was great. Only flaw was what they did with Buzz, he’s stronger character then they take him for. He wouldn’t lose himself to the Darkness. Otherwise, everything was great. Pretty sure it’s my favorite. Hercules’s world was the level of quality I expected! It was decent, I miss the goddamn tournament's, Phil’s voice - but I did love the exploration of his city and meeting his father! Shame no boss fight with Hades's, they’re great and fun! Twilight Town sucked! I liked seeing the gang again, Uncle Scrooge and little chef. But that doesn’t make up for the fact that more then half of Twilight Town is cut and it doesn’t look like the same place! I liked exploring the entire world, not just a portion of it. Monsters Inc’s sequel to the first film with that world experience was great! I had a blast! I always wanted to see Sully’s reunion with Boo! It wasn’t perfect, but I had a good time! Pirates of Caribbean felt like it changed things from it’s canon, but it was an emotional blast! Jack Sparrow scenes and Will scenes, it was just great! The Big Hero 6 world! Oh it was great! It was emotional to lost Baymax in the film, to get him back was great! Kinda sucked to not see the big brother come back, but they’re saving that version of events for the sequel. Two Baymax’s. The only thing I didn’t like was how the whole cast was shrunk. Best example being Honey should of been taller then Jack Sparrow’s model, but she wasn’t. These worlds could of really done with multiple visits. Even more so the three left, that were wronged and disrespected. Don’t try to praise/defend what was done to them, they deserved better. Winne the Pooh deserved better. I liked not having to collect Torn Pages, but even if you didn’t have to. In the previous games, The Winnie the Pooh worlds lasted about an hour or so doing all the activities, helping out all Pooh Bear’s friends - stuff like that. Then you have KH3′s version, which is less then 20 minutes, doing the same activity three times. That was awful. Pooh’s universe deserved better. We deserved better. This is a massive flaw. Can’t forgive this. I love Pooh Bear. Now, as someone who love’s Rapunzel, not fond of how they treated her world either. It was basically the movie with bits cut out and skipped. She hardly interacted with Kingdom Hearts lore, Sora hardly stuck around her. It was just like. Now and then, Sora’s there. Why were they so scared of showing Rapunzel kissing Flynn? There were so many moments Sora should of got to interact with? Where were the two bad guy twins? Rapunzel just generally deserved better in this game. Last but not least, Frozen. Probably the worst world in the game. Because you spend most of it just falling off mountains. They hardly let Sora interact with Elsa or Anna. Or left them get involved in Kingdom Hearts lore. Sora would of been able to relate well to Elsa if they let it happen. You can’t explore the palace, Han’s has no lines and you’re forced to listen to Let It Go again with Sora basically just there. Like hi Sora! All I liked was Snow guard getting more of a role. Don’t even get to explore the city. Just the snowy place. No real development, it’s like - what was the point? There really was none. Why did we go there? Why was Larxene there? Elsa and Anna deserved better then this. Also while not all Disney worlds could of returned in KH3, due to their stories being settled. A lot definitely could! Also, Kairi deserved better then pretty much being a plot device, hardly getting development at all just to go poof. And the idea that Sora’s sacrifice to get her back doesn’t lead to the priority of everyone to find and/or bring him back somehow instead of chilling. Just made the whole ending sequence an OOC moment for me.
Verdict!
Kingdom Hearts 3 is a decent game and fun experience, but it’s also a flawed mess. Like handling in a English report that gets a low C and just barely hits the passing grade. It is not the worst in the franchise, but Kingdom Hearts 2 easily beats it and so does Kingdom Hearts, the original one. Funner to play then Dream Drop Distance, Chain Of Memories, Recoded and the Roxas focused game! But the rest defeat it! I have no interest in a new game plus, roleplay wise I intend to amend the flaws. The Disney worlds that were wronged will get justice. Add back Final Fantasy and the missing Disney worlds. Make it what it should of been! I had a good time, I really did. But once was enough. After finishing, it now shocks me that an amount of people I can count on just one of my hands tried to either tell me KH3 was good enough or superior to all the other games, even KH2. My assumption now is, they hadn’t recently played the other games before playing 3, were lost in Nostagla or something else was going on. Just how.. How could this possibly beat the two other main titles? The only thing superior is the more then three team mates tbh. xD
7/10
I really feel like I’m being generous here, but if I went lower then I’d think I was being too harsh. It’s not FFXV and Bound by Flame 5/10 quality, but it’s certainly not The Walking Dead (by Tellale) and The Last of Us 9/10 quality. So this will have to do. Nomura, I strongly advise you to look back at Kingdom Hearts 2 and what made it so great, before you work on your next main title.
