âMaybe you shouldnât go to the ball tonight.â
The Thief shot the Bard another glare and turned his head to face the ceiling again. Theyâd been talking about the ball for about an hour. The Playwright had gone as soon as theyâd explained, saying he didnât like spending too much time in the Imaginationâs action grounds, and the Artist then left to find the other Sides.Â
If the Thief didnât go with them, they wouldnât have any protection. No one was willing to fight, much less fight the Dragon, and no one else alive could go toe to toe with him.Â
But your woundâŚ.
Fuck off.Â
It stings, doesnât it?
âYou know that doesnât matter,â he said aloud.
âIt matters so much,â the Bard whispered back.
He shifted, hand resting along the Thiefâs tummy. After the Artist left, the Bard opted to lay down next to the Thief, hugging him as gently as he could around the stomach as to not jostle the bandages wrapped tight around the Thiefâs chest.Â
Sure, the Bard sung a ditty, used as much magic as the setting would allow, making sure the gash didnât hurt and didnât bleed and would heal quick. But heâd always had a soft spot for the Thief. They got along better than anticipated, given how fiery they were. He didnât want the Thief feeling any sort of pain. Plus, pain wasnât really their thing.Â
âHowâs Logan?â the Thief asked, for the fifth time.
Seeing Logan in distress had upset him more than the actual wound. The Bard clicked his tongue, almost annoyed at the Thiefâs apathy for himself.
âWonderfully,â the Bard promised, âHeâs with Patton and Deceit, and theyâre taking care of him.â
âBetter than we would.â
âYou could say that again.â
Distantly, they heard a door opened and closed again. That was likely the Artist coming back, the Bard thought, and he gently squeezed the Thiefâs side. âShould I go check on them?â he whispered.
He felt the Thief shrug against him.Â
Laying like this was calming. A little depressing as Roman realized he was cuddling against himself, but, well. What can you do. They both elected to wait until someone came in from the foyer, where the Artist had led everyone into and was now making six mugs of tea.
Logan was the last to enter, closing the door behind himself. Another throb of pain jolted through his head, and he couldnât stifle a quiet groan. It felt like something was pushing on the inside of his skull, trying to break out.Â
âLogan?â he heard Deceit ask.
He was leaning on the door now, hand still gripping the handle as he rested his forehead and tried to stop feeling dizzy. He squeezed his eyes shut tight as the fluorescent lights were just a bit too bright for him to handle. This was the worst bout yet.Â
Multiple hands grabbed him, leading him slowly back to the couch heâd been at prior.Â
âLogan, honey?â Patton asked.Â
He laid down on the couch, shifting as the hands left. How expedient of a situation. The pain subsided only slightly, returning to sit in the back of his cranium.Â
âYo, Professor Plum, are you going to say something?â the Artist said.Â
They all were sitting now, Deceit on the coffee table, Patton on the ground beside the couch and the Artist on the couchâs armrest. Loganâs eyes were still closed, but he lifted his thumb up, resting his hand on his stomach, and all of their shoulders loosened.Â
âI have a headache,â Logan stated, âThat is all. It will pass.â
The trio all looked worriedly at each other, gesturing at one another as though asking if theyâd heard about this headache. As it became more and more apparent that this was news to all of them, Patton turned back to Logan. He knew how to deal with Loganâs occasional headaches, often brought on from Thomas overthinking things or having to deal with strenuous mental exercises. Or Taxes. It was tax season, after all..Â
âDarn. What kinda tea is that?â Patton asked, gesturing to the cups, âDo you have any peppermint?â
The Artist bit his lip and waved his hand over the cup. The scent, which had been light and fruity, shifted into mint. âNow it is,â he said, worry ebbing into his voice, âIs there anything else we can do?â
âHow long have you had this headache?â Deceit asked, still watching Logan.
âSince we entered the Imagination. It was small, when we woke up in that forest yesterday,â Logan rubbed his forehead and took off his glasses, âPatton, can you hold these?â
Patton took them wordlessly and set them on the coffee table.Â
âAnd you stated earlier that youâve never been in the Imagination?â Deceit asked again.Â
Patton glanced at him. Deceit was, once again, taking notes. Well, more like poking his pen against a specific page in his notepad.Â
âYes. I have never been here before.â
âAh.â Deceit circled something on the page and poked his pen against it again.
âAh?â the Artist asked, brow furrowing, âAh, like, âah, by Jove, Iâve got itâ kinda ah?â
It was Deceitâs job to âget it,â as the Artist put it. But now he had to explain what was wrong.Â
Something Deceit was very well known for being bad at. He opened his mouth to ask a question, but was first interrupted by Logan.
âHave YOU been in the Imagination before?â
Deceit bobbed his head to either side, thinking. âYes. I have,â no need for details.
âRoman let you in?â Patton sounded surprised, and Deceit waved his hand.
âNo, of course not.â and he was cut off again, this time by the Artist with a clearing of the throat. An incredibly offended clearing of the throat.Â
âYeah, no, we donât let just anyone in. Do you see how much work weâve put into this place? Itâs more elaborate than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Youâve come in a few times, just to help with memories in dreams, right? Virgilâs helped with a few nightmares. But mostly itâs just me. AndâŚ.well,â the Artist pursed his lips and waved his hand, indicating âyou know.â
Before anyone could ask follow up questions, he stood up. âIâm, uh, Iâm gonna go check on Thief and Bard.â
The Thief, the Bard....wait, that was just three Romans. Deceit frowned up at the Artistâs retreating back, switching gears for a moment. âWhereâs the Playwright?âÂ
âHe doesnât like being, uh, on stage. His words,â the Artistâs eyes flicked up for a second, before looking back at Deceit, âHeâs also grabbing costumes for the ball tonight.â
The three Sides vaguely remembered the incredibly long corridor of costumes and the extended process of trying to dress for the medieval setting.
Logan frowned. The âmedievalâ setting indeed. It was so historically inaccurate that he was taking a running count of the innacuracies that seem to be without a Doylist explanation, and had been considering what the historically plausible alternatives were. What kinds of outfits would be accurate for a ball, though?Â
He winced again, closing his eyes and laying down again as the headache bounded back in full force.Â
Deceit, Patton, and the Artist all looked back at him. Truthfully, the Artist felt guilty; Logan seemed to be doing fine before he arrived, so the increase in headache-induced-acheing was probably connected to him. Somehow.
âIâm gonna bring Thief and Bard some tea,â he mumbled, picking up two of the mugs, âSorry the Imagination sucks, Logan.â
And he darted away before any of them could tell him to not.Â
Patton blinked, looking around. He could have sworn the Artist was just with them. Oh, he must have left.Â
Had Logan had his tea? Patton had zoned out for a little there and hadnât noticed. He shifted how he was sitting on the ground, pulling his knees up to his chest and looking around the room again.Â
Where were they again?
Dr. Picaniâs office, oh, yeah.
Where had the Artist gone?
âArtistâŚ.?â Patton hummed, quiet and to himself as to not interrupt the other two.
âNow,â Deceit seemed unphased by the Artistâs quick exit, turning back to Logan with his notepad, âIt came back? Just now?â
âYes. Stop talking for a second, please,â Logan raised a finger.Â
Deceit nodded and puffed up his cheeks, looking up and around at the room. His eyes eventually landed on Patton, who was still looking around, vaguely confused. But now he was more confused about why he was so confused because, like, of COURSE he saw the Artist leave. Pattonâs eyes refocused, blinking at Deceit. He waved one hand.
At first, Deceitâs expression didnât change, and Patton lowered his hand. But then, slowly, Deceit blinked at him, then stuck his tongue out slightly.
âBlep,â Patton whispered.
Deceit smirked, and winked. Blep indeed.
Patton slapped his hand over his own mouth, stifling his giggles as Logan lowered his hand. âAlright. I am okay.â
âGood,â Deceit said, turning his attention quickly back to the logical side, âNow, actually, Patton.â
Patton perked up. âMhm?â
âDo you feel any difference?â Deceit crossed his legs where he sat, pen sitting on his notepad as he waited.Â
Patton tilted his head in thought, then shook it. âNot like a headache or anything,â he made a gesture with his hands, as though he were pulling something apart between them, âItâs likeâŚ.like. A feelings-y thing. Iâm feeling a little more airheaded than usual? You know, like how you feel right after we binge-watch The Office.â
Deceit watched him blankly. He didnât have the heart to tell Patton that that made absolutely no sense because he wasnât the overseer of Thomasâ emotional interpretation, so he just nodded.Â
âPatton,â he turned to Logan, who was gesturing into the air above him while laying down, âI do not know what the fuck that means.â
And there Logan was with the incredibly tired realism. Patton deflated. âOh,â he hummed, frowning at the ground as he thought of a new way to explain the sensation.
Honestly, itâd been building, like a burp. There were a lot of things going on he didnât agree with, and a lot of things that plain hurt, but there were weird things heâd never felt before.Â
Patton hummed angrily behind his lips, drumming his fingers against his chin for a moment in thought. What kinds of feelings had he never felt before? How would he know?
Gosh, that didnât even make sense to him. Patton was getting his thoughts wrapped in a tizzy. He balled up his hands in his lap and tried again.
âWell, itâs likeâŚ.like youâve just experienced so much that you KNOW! You know you know whatâs going to happen, but it still happens and you still feel everything, but not as big as before, like itâs an echo? Almost? It feels like I can kinda feel everything a lot always. And on top of that, I feel like Iâm letting a lot more slide. Like, earlier. I know youâve got a headache, but language.â
Logan sighed tiredly and Patton waved his hands a little frantically, backtracking. âI know! But I didnât really register that! I had to think about it! But usually I can just, ya know, know, and usually youâd know too, right? Itâs like what Iâm feeling and what Iâd USUALLY feel about things are all wonky, so Iâm sensing things and feeling things a lot slower than usual.â
Logan exhaled, then rubbed his face with both of his hands.
That made only the tiniest modicum of sense.Â
Well, it made perfect sense to the person whoâd been looking for that answer. Deceit jotted down another note and exhaled, nice and slow. Eureka, he supposed.
How was he going to synthesize this in an understandable way?
âLogan, Patton, remember how surprised Bard, Thief, and Child were earlier, over how time was moving at a regular rate?â Deceit asked them both, looking up from his notes and raising an eyebrow.Â
âUh, huh. They said itâd been a whole week but you said itâd only been a few hours,â Patton crossed his legs on the ground and leaned back on the couch, head resting beside Loganâs shoulder.
âExactly. And that time thing changed, what, when we first arrived here?âÂ
Logan raised an eyebrow. He still had his eyes closed, despite the fact that his headache had eased up once more. It was just pleasantly calming at this point. âDo you think our arrival into the Imagination had something to do with the time scale changing?â
Oh good, Logan got it instantaneously. Deceit clapped, nodding excitedly. âYes!â
âBut I dunno how to change anything in here. If weâre not trying to change things, then whyâre they changing?â Patton slumped, knitting his eyebrows together in thought and tapping Loganâs hand, âYou know anything about that, kiddo?â
âIâm afraid I have to confess ignorance to how the Imagination works. On this side, I assumed Roman controlled everything.â
That was valid; Deceit couldnât profess to being an expert either, but what other explanation was there? He had other evidences, too. âBut do you both remember how the town looked when we first arrived? Or the forest?â
Patton watched Deceit as his brows pinched even tighter. He was really trying to remember, and he knew what he thought itâd looked like, but he wasnât sure. It did look different this morning compared to yesterday evening, too, but he couldnât pinpoint in what ways.
âNot quite,â he made a so-so hand motion. âIt sure looks different, though, but I dunno how.â
âI cannot either,â Logan said. âIt looked like a town, but I cannot remember any precise details.â
âNeither can I, but thatâs the point,â Deceit twirled his pen in the air, as though circling the town, âWe know what it looks like now! Itâs got detail.â
âYes, possibly because weâve been in the town for longer. It stands to reason that, the longer we are in an environment, the more that environment becomes familiar,â getting much farther away now, Logan, âThat seems more likely than our entrance into the Imagination impacting the physical landscape.â
âNot just the physical landscape,â Deceit huffed, annoyed now as he crossed his arms, âI think all of us are adding our own assets to whatever story Romanâs trying to tell in here.â
Logan scowled at the ceiling. That was possible, but in Loganâs opinion, less plausible. He and Patton had no idea how to change things, especially how to change the things that Roman had so painstakingly built.Â
In theory, it shouldnât be any harder than striking a red line through it, similar to how he would when editing one of Romanâs scripts. But in practice, Logan wouldnât know where to begin or what sorts of â he cringed â feelings it would envoke.Â
COULD their very presence in the Imagination be changing it? His headaches usually stemmed from being overworked. Could he, as a Side, be overcompensating for the lack of Logic in an Imagination purely overrun by Creativity?Â
Logan frowned at the ceiling. He would have to concede to Deceit â his theory made sense, the more Logan considered it.
Deceit looked from Logan to Patton, who was flapping his knees up and down while he sat. When he met Deceitâs eyes, he shrugged apologetically. Patton was still zipping slowly in and out of understanding; heâd always attributed that to the Imagination because, well, thatâs just how the Imagination had always been for him. And implying that Romanâs imagination would be hurting them? That didnât make sense! Roman would never, he wasnât evil!
âI just thought it was âcause it was the Imagination. I wouldnât want to change anything about what Romanâs making. Plus, Roman always talks about how creation doesnât make sense, ya know,â he fixed his glasses and held his legs with both hands.Â
âDoes it not, or does Roman think it wouldnât make sense to us?â Deceit asked. The uncertainty that passed over Pattonâs face was interrupted by a cold question.
âWhat doesnât make sense to you?âÂ
Deceit and Patton both looked over to the door, where the Artist had returned from the other room. His hands were stuffed into his pockets, posture rigid.Â
Numbly, Deceit wondered how much heâd heard. The Artist met his gaze with a hardened glare, but nodded to the other room. âThief wants to talk to you,â he stated, âJust you. And I wanna talk to Logan and Patton.â
The Artist had heard enough to be vaguely upset that they were talking about him behind his back.Â
Deceit sighed and climbed off of the coffee table finally. Heâd die before sitting in a seat correctly.Â
âFine. Maybe theyâll understand what Iâm trying to say,â he stated, giving Patton a look that plainly read âThink about it or Iâll stab you with this sword.â
You know what, Patton took back the thing about Deceit being an actor. That anger was thinly veiled at best.Â
But he also loved him.Â
So Patton smiled at Deceit and blew him a small kiss.Â
He absolutely hadnât expected Deceitâs eyes to widen, nor for him to walk straight into the wall beside the hallway and sputter in indignation.Â
Deceit slid into the other room quickly, avoiding the Artist. Which was fine. Completely. Fine.
The Artist walked back and sat down on the ground, beside Patton. He leaned his head back and nudged Loganâs hip. âYour head still hurt, Cranium Command?â he asked, voice much softer andâŚ.was that guilt?
Well, they couldnât have the Artist blaming himself for a quandary he had no hand in. Plus, that was quite the Disney-rooted nickname, and Logan couldnât deny that he was pleased with it. He shook his head with a quiet hum. âA little, but not as forcefully.â
âThatâs good. Uh,â the Artist held one of his knees, letting the other leg straighten out beneath the table, âPlaywright actually wanted me to ask why you havenât looked at his book more often.â
âOh?â
âWorm?â Patton added.
The Artist snorted, giving him a soft smile and nudging his arm. This Roman was real different, in Pattonâs mind. So quiet and unsure of himself outside of the persona heâd built for himself, that of a worker. His smiles were like those tiny ones Roman would give, when wrapped beneath his arms, or when receiving praise for a job well done.Â
He unthinkingly straightened the strings on the Artistâs hoodie, humming quietly, and the Artist took one of his hands.Â
Before anything else, though, Logan grunted. Both of them scooted forward, letting Logan swing his legs carefully between them. âLet us peruse this book, then,â he murmured, taking the book from his coat once more.Â
âOh, yeah, THAT book!â Patton said, pointing to it.Â
His hand lowered as they saw the cover.Â
âWoah,â the Artist murmured, âInteresting design. I would have coated everything in the same level of golden foil, though. Itâs a little unbalanced right now.â
Every bit of Romanâs crest was visible to some extent, indicating that theyâd met everyone. That must mean, Logan realized, Virgil met the Damsel. He didnât know if that alleviated some of his worries about never finding that particular Roman, or if it worried him that the center tower of the castle was the most blank portion of the entire crest.Â
Should he point it all out? Would that be awkward, with the Artist present? The oceanâs (or was it a lake, because of the lake outside of the townâs walls) waves were present as a flat yellow color, not glittering but at least with vibrantly visible lines. The most bold part, glowing golden, was still the central spiralling sun.Â
A part of Loganâs chest loosened, knowing that they hadnât failed the Child, that he still believed in them all. In all honesty, seeing the entire crest, even the Dragonâs thin golden castle wall outlines, comforted some part of him that was worried theyâd never reassemble Roman.Â
Pattn pressed a finger to the cover.Â
âWhatâs this all mean again?â he asked, brow furrowing in concentration.
He couldnât, for the life of him, remember what the entire book was for. Which was super bad, considering the Playwright had given it to them yesterday.Â
In his defense, though, itâd been a LONG, long, long, long, long day.
This was definitely going to get awkward. Logan didnât particularly care, though; if the Artist had qualms with it, he would have to take it up with the Playwright. âThe cover indicates how much weâve âconvincedâ every form of Roman that we appreciate his existence,â Logan explained.
âAh.â The Artistâs voice was eerily level.Â
âOh, yeah! Wow, the Child really likes us,â Patton drew his finger along the outer edge of the crest, a thin line of ink in the indentation that was barely glowing, âWhatâs who?â
âWe broke it up ourselves, Iâm the waves,â the Artist pointed out himself, intrigue growing as he looked over the cover once more, âInteresting. I, uh. Wow. Interesting plot device.â
âThat is likely why the Playwright is upset with me not using it as often. I did not expect this excursion to last for long, nor for it to go as fast as it is,â Logan rubbed the back of his neck, gently rubbing the spot where his neck connected to his skull.
The motion was not missed by Patton. âDâya want a massage while you read?â he offered, standing up slowly.
Ah. Logan blinked up at Pattonâs blurry face. Had he been able to see, he would have seen the gentle and ultimately fond smile he wore. âThat would be lovely, Patton. Thank you,â he leaned forward and took his glasses from the table, slipping them back on as Patton climbed up onto the couch, sitting on the top of it behind Logan.Â
His hands rested gently on Loganâs shoulders, then slid closer to his neck. A good call, to start with â oh, Patton was so gentle. Logan let the tension leave his shoulders and tried to focus on the book. If he thought too hard about the fact that Patton was intimately touching his shouldersâŚ.AND, if he thought about how much he was being touched currently, with the Artistâs head resting on his thigh, Pattonâs hands on his backâŚ
He straightened his back a little more and sniffed. Too many emotions today.Â
âLooks like Bardâs beinâ a little bratty baby,â the Artist pointed to the mountains, dim in the crestâs background.
âHis apprehension is valid. Trust should be earned,â Logan responded, raising his eyebrow at the Artistâs quoting, âI find that it is surprising that Dragon trusts us at all. Perhaps Virgil has spoken with him. If we were rankingâŚ.â
His eyes flicked to the Artist, who raised an eyebrow expectantly. âGive us your top seven Roman belief list,â he said, as though trying to comfort Loganâs worry.
âIâd like to hear, those lines do kinda look the same to me,â Patton added from behind, knees on either side of Loganâs shoulders giving him an awkwardly placed squeeze.Â
The succor helped, at least. Logan blinked in place of a nod and looked back at the cover. âIt appears that Child trusts us most, followed by you. Then it is Thief, and then Bard, then Playwright, Dragon, and Damsel.â
Patton sighed. He was still upset that the Playwright was feeling so disconnected from them. Heâd actually been looking forward to spending some downtime with him, have an open discussion about what he wanted. Last time must have been dragged down by the need to, whatâd he say?Â
Provide exposition. Yeah!Â
After all, Patton didnât want to leave him waiting in the wings.Â
He snorted to himself, leaning forward and almost pressing his head to Loganâs, before he stopped mid motion. Thatâd be bad, they had boundaries and all! He straightened up and cleared his throat.Â
Playwright needed his turn in the spotlight.Â
Patton let out a quiet laugh and shook his head.
âWell,â the Artist hummed, after theyâd both starred at the cover for a few quiet seconds, âOpen it.â
Ah. Right. Logan flicked the book open. The Artist said âahâ quietly and added, âPlaywright mentioned the Authorâs Notes. Didnât say anything about reading it, but Iâd recommend reading something with notes from him.â
That was the first section added. Logan suspected that that had been originally crossed off, before they even found the town, because it was written directly below the scribbled out section. He flipped the bookâs pages, expecting only a few notes. Why would the Playwright write them authorsâ notes if he was planning to visit them?Â
The answer was more clear when he reached the page. The Artist whistled low, and Patton winced. âOh, boy,â he murmured above Loganâs head.Â
Logan simply didnât react.Â
The pages were full of notes, some scribbled out, some written large, some written hastily, some blotted out with water. Perhaps tears? The first note was written clearly, marked with a date and time even.
âI hope you understand, but I would prefer not to enter the Imagination. I like to remove myself from the narrative. :)â
Of course, a Hamilton reference. Logan chuckled quietly and continued reading the notes aloud.
âNow that youâve found the Thiefâs tree, it shouldnât be too hard to locate the other figments. Do you need assistance?â
âPlease?â
âItâs crossed out?â Patton asked, pointing to the note.Â
Logan nodded. âYes, it is. Do you know why?â he directed the last part to the Artist and was met with a shrug. The strikeouts only continued, some in thick scribbles, but others in neat and crisp lines that left the words semi-legible beneath.
âApparently not. These notes may be useless, butThen again, itâs not like Roman the Bard, the Thief, and the Child are good at hiding. The Damsel will be most difficult to find.â
âGood call with the guards. I miss you all already. I think I gave you a pen, in your coat? Or you could just speak. Iâll hear you.â
âPlease, tell Patton to not worry too much. Virgil and Deceit have found the Thief and are enroute to his tree; they will be safe. I would actually recommend going there instead of staying with the Artist. He is difficult to handle, at best, and atrocious at worst.â
The Artist scoffed and pointed at the note. âGo write a chorus,â he hissed, turning to the sky and flipping it off.Â
âRoman!â Patton scolded him, stopping his massaging and putting a hand over the Artistâs. While the Artist rolled his eyes, Logan continued.Â
âAnd youâre going to the Artistâs house. I would recommend that you donât speak ill of his paintings, theyâre all he has to live for.â
âI know I said I didnât want to come to the Imagination, but the Artist is speaking ill of you, and Iâm going to go fight him. If you need anything, please let me know.â
âYou know, youâre allowed to pass this book to any of the others, too, Logan. Itâs not just for you. I know youâre obsessed in love with might eat fond of books, but I would prefer this book in the hands of someone who will interact with it.â
âThatâs absurd. Who would he have had me pass this book onto?â Logan mumbled, rubbing his jaw.
The Artist shrugged. âHe was probably getting emo. Sad you werenât reading his dumb lilâ book, as though itâs not the most useless method of communication ever. What kinda video game tutorial.â
âItâs pretty stylish, though. I like it!â Patton said with a grin.
âWhatâs the point of even warning you about that if youâre not going to read this to notice.â
âI guess youâre never going to read this.â
Logan hummed quietly. It was getting more and more distressing.
âWhy would you? Romanâs only a nuisance. And Iâm part of him, arenât I. Canât hide that!â
âI promise Iâm not just a nuisance. Iâm better. Iâm the better one. Right?â
âRomanâs better.â
âOh, God, what if being a nuisance is so crucial to being Roman that all of us are nuisances. That would make sense, given how ridiculous this whole situation is. Weâre such idiots. Iâm such an idiot, why would I listenÂ
âI guess Iâm not going to succeed at this contest! Iâm not dumb enough to be Roman. Hah!â
âItâs almost a solace that no oneâs ever going to read this.â
âTeam Work makes the Dream Work. Cute. Tell Virgil thatâs cute. I love him.â
âIâm sorry for yelling at the Artist. Iâll tell him myself soon, but I also wanted to tell you, because Patton and Logan heard. I want to be useful, somehow.â
âThe most striking difference between Roman and I isâ the following text was so scribbled out it was illegible. Everything was crossed out. Red lines were appearing on all of the text, actually.Â
âHeâs crossing it all out right now,â Patton mumbled into Loganâs hair.
Heâd given up rubbing his shoulders and was now simply sitting atop the couch, legs cradling Loganâs shoulders.Â
âYou shouldnât be ashamed of what youâve written,â Logan said, seemingly to no one. Neither of them, at least.
The Artist looked up at him.Â
âIf you would like to speak honestly to us, then please do. I understand that trust must be earned, but how can we prove ourselves trustworthy without any chances to do so? You have been incredibly helpful. These notes would have been indicative of the path we should have taken, and itâs on usâŚ.it is my fault that we did not know,â Logan drummed his fingers against the bookâs side, âWe would like to talk with you more. And not just through a book.â
The lines stopped. The Artist sat up, watching the page, then looking up at Logan. His lip was quirked up slightly; he knew what heâd said.
A small arrow appeared on the bottom of the page, pointing to the edge of the book. Logan flipped the page.
At the top of the new blank page was more writing.
âThanks for checking eventually.â
âIt is my pleasure. My one concern with the book was that it would provide information we already knew,â Logan felt Patton squeeze his shoulders with his knees, âFor example, the Dragonâs section is fairly nondescript. However, if you are uncomfortable with entering this level of the Imagination directly, then we can surely communicate via the book.â
More writing appeared, then was smudged.Â
They could almost imagine the Playwright swearing at himself for smudging the ink.
âOkay. Thank you.â
Not taking more chances, hm. Logan hummed, patting the book.Â
âThank you for your ingenuity,â he responded.
Patton turned his attention to the Artist, while Logan comforted the Playwright by speaking to the air. It seemed that they didnât need the pen, after all. The Artist was starring hard at the book, jaw set in an angry disgruntlement.Â
âHey, Artist?â
âMh?â he looked up at Patton, pushing his glasses up tiredly.
There was still something Patton couldnât really understand about the Playwrightâs writings. He slid down beside the Artist and held open an arm, an offering for if the Artist wanted a hug.Â
To which he shook his head with an apologetic frown. Not much of a hugger. Patton smiled, that was okay, and patted the Artistâs knee.
âWhat did he mean, about not being Roman?â he asked. âI thought all of you were Roman.â
The Artist frowned and, for a second, Patton was a little worried he didnât understand what he was asking. But then the Artist seemed to have a lightbulb moment, eyes lighting with understanding, before he scowled again.Â
âI donât reallyâŚ.know, know. The whole point of all of this is that we WERE Roman,â the Artist rubbed the back of his neck, looking sidelong at the door, âI mean, the ways weâre connected to him differ. And the, uh, the levels of how much we exist as being in Thomasâ mind versus as Imagination creations is wild. I donât know how real we are in terms of being real parts of Roman. Itâs kinda hard to explain.â
âSounds like it,â Patton nodded sympathetically, âSome of yâall donât feel like Roman?â
The Artist shook his head. âIâd argue that none of us feel like Roman. Not really. We just all want to feel like Roman, so we say we do. One of usâ gotta be Roman enough, right?â
Alright, now he lost Patton. Before he could ask further, though, the door at the end of the hall banged open as the Bard jumped out, startling the other three.Â
âWhoops!â he called and lunged into the room with one leg, âSorry about that, darlings, but we need you in the room pronto.â
âFine. Maybe theyâll understand what Iâm trying to say,â Deceit turned around and slid into the room.
Of all things he expected to find, it was not the Bard and the Thief cuddling like a married couple, especially in light of their argument earlier. The Thiefâs cloak and shirt were hanging on the nearby coat rack, chest wrapped in thick layers of bandages. They were leaned closer to each other, whispering about something, something about the ball that night. Deceit raised an eyebrow and coughed to get their attention.Â
Both simply looked up at him, neither concerned about their positioning. Honestly, figures.Â
âHeyyy,â the Bard sang, beckoning Deceit in with a hand, âCome sit!â
Deceit squinted at them and grabbed the chair across from the couch. He spun it around and sat backwards in it, legs straddling the backrest. Once heâd leaned over the backrest, one hand wrapped around it while the other held up his head, he spoke. âYou called?âÂ
âYeah,â the Thief shifted, patting the Bardâs side as he sat up, pulling no punches, âYou kissed us?â
Ah. Welp. Deceit immediately shot the Bard a glare, opening his mouth to reprimand him, but the Thief interrupted. âNo, no, he didnât tell me. He just, uh, well,â they shared a worried look before the Thief turned back to Deceit, âHe confirmed what I thought. We all felt it.â
Deceit recoiled, confused mostly. âYou all what?â
âFelt your kiss,â the Thiefâs cheeks turned red as he scooted himself up, the Bard stuffing pillows behind him and hissing unintelligibly at him, though he was too engrossed in the conversation to notice. âMe, Child, Dragon, we were all in a scuffle when we felt someone kiss our cheek. Couldnât have been Logan or Virgil, might have been Patton but Bard said it was you.â
The Bard clenched his teeth in worry and made a so-so hand motion. âGuess I did tell him one teensy thing,â he said.
âHow doesâŚ.how did you feel it?â Deceitâs brows pinched as he took out his notepad again, looking down at what heâd written, âIs it something to do with the whole âweâre all Romanâ thing?â
âI donât know.â
âI was trying to tell you, Ponyboy, it means weâre gonna be whole soon!â the Bard gently punched the Thiefâs arm, then threw his arm around him and laughed.
Deceit raised an eyebrow at them, but his expression went unnoticed at first. He scribbled something down about how fast the Bard and Thief made up after their argument â perhaps they were compatible sides of each other?
No, no way, not after the arguing.
âPony boy?â the Thief asked, frowning at the Bard.
Who winked at him and stuck his tongue out. âStay gold,â he whispered.
The Thief groaned and shoved his shoulder, prompting the Bard to laugh. He wrapped his arms around the Thiefâs waist gingerly, below his bandages. Had he any strength, the Thief would have pushed him off, but he opted for a tired eye roll and level glare.
Deceit clapped to get their attention, because no facial expressions were interrupting whatever was happening here. âMoving past that,â he made a âcontinueâ hand gesture, âCare to explain what âgoing to be wholeâ means?â
The Bard rested his head on the Thiefâs shoulder with a wide grin. His eyes would have sparkled if they â no wait, there, they were sparkling. âIâve got a hunch that all that we need to bring us together is a little bit of love!â
âAnd I,â the Thief said, putting one hand on the Bardâs face and pushing him off slowly, âThink thatâs one of the dumbest suggestions possible.â
The Bard scowled at him, nudging him with his hip. âOh, you know what Iâm talking about! Itâs like true loveâs kiss! True loveâs kiss solves everything!â
True loveâs kiss. A fairytale ending for a fairytale adventure?
Deceit hated it.Â
âNo.â True love? Get out of here with that. He had barely believed in love as a general concept before coming into the Imagination, he wasnât ready to commit to TRUE love.Â
Plus heâd already kissed one Roman on the cheek today and that was enough. Heâd like to be kissing the real Roman next, but, well. Maybe he wasnât ready for it? Either way, Deceitâs entire being was telling him to not.
Heâd admitted QUITE a bit in the past, what. Hour? Two hours? And he wasnât keen on anything else. It made his stomach churn.
The Thief was semi-on his side, as he shot the Bard a glare. âThis isnât a fairytale, Bard.â
âOh, isnât it, Flynn Rider?â
âEither way, thatâs gonna take Deceit spilling the tea,â the Thief held up a finger at the Bard and turned to Deceit. âWhat happened?âÂ
Deceit raised his eyebrow. âOh, you just want me to tell you?â
âUh. Yeah,â the Thief waved his hands around, âWhat else?â
Deceit crossed his arms. He didnât want to disclose this fact; not of his own volition, at least, and not just yet. Heâd been so upfront with Logan and Patton that he wasnât sure how much more emotional validation he could withstand today without crying or something. âWhy would I?â
âTo prove him wrong,â the Thief jerked a thumb back at the Bard.
âTo prove me right!â and the Bard preened, putting his hands beneath his chin and giving Deceit an award winning smile.
âNo.â
Both Romans frowned. âNo?â the Bard asked, âWait, I was literally there, you DID!â
âMaybe you saw wrong?â oh, God, they were going to argue again.
âI didnât see wrong! Iââ
âFine,â Deceit snapped, interrupting their squabbles, âYes, I kissed the Artist on the cheek, but I donât know anything about making you all whole. I donât know what you want of me.â
The Thief and Bard had certainly shifted. Now the Bard was sitting on the top of the couch, legs crossed and back resting on the wall, while the Thief was laying across the couch still, legs kicked up and nudging the Bardâs knees.
They both froze, looking at Deceit through his confession. The Thief cleared his throat and propped himself up on his elbows, scooting back to lay on the armrest. âDeceit, buddy, I just wanna make sure this isnât the answer. We want you to kiss us again.â
âIf you wanted a kiss, you could have just said so,â he fixed his gloves, trying not to look at either of the Romans too directly. âWhy go through all these lengths for something that means nothing?â
âMeansâŚ.nothing?â the Bardâs voice was so small.
âYes, itâs just a kiss,â
âA kiss means everything!â the Bard snapped. He jumped up, standing on the couch with one foot on the backrest and one on the armrest, towering above. âWhen you kissed us, we all felt it, and it felt...it felt like something. It felt like we were whole in the moment, butâŚ.â
âSee, you canât even describe the feeling,â the Thief scoffed, shaking his head disapprovingly, âRidiculous.â
âIf youâre just going to argue again, can I go?â Deceit asked, annoyance clear.
Heâd thought these two Romans may be compatible, but it seemed that even they couldnât agree on anything. At least they were still being civil. At least. Who knew how long that would last?
Both of them looked up at him and said âWait,â with similar levels of desperation. Deceit put his hands up in mock-surrender, tired of their, of Romanâs, antics. Itâd been a long day, could you really blame him?
âWe,â the Thief started, eyes flicking to the Bard, who nodded for him to speak as he slid down to sit on the armrest, âWe thought itâd be best to. Disclose. That Roman loves. All of you.â
His teeth grew more gritted as the confession came out. The Bard looked back at Deceit and nodded vigorously, clasping his hands to his chest and standing. He leaned down in front of Deceit, ignoring how Deceit leaned back, and met his eye-level. âRoman loves all four of you. I love all four of you, so, so much that it hurts,â he whispered.Â
Deceit watched his eyes, watched them glimmer with unseen red and gold, and steeled his expression. That wasnât necessarily as big of a surprise as it was a confession. It was like a breath of fresh air, the truth. He didnât always get to see it so blatantly.Â
Truth to Deceit was like high percentage alcohol. It was incredibly bad in large quantities, and was an acquired taste, but he could partake. And sometimes it was nice. But today had held a lot of hard truths and a lot of bare feelings, and he wasnât sure how much he could take of this rampant exposure.
It was all given honesty, though, and given trust. He couldnât fight that. Not when Roman was so disassembled, and not when it was about something heâd never dared to dream of.
âI amâŚ.glad,â Deceit stated, trying to figure out how to word it right.
The Thief frowned, and the Bard leaned back, a blank expression overtaking his face. Perhaps those werenât the right words. They exchanged a look and the Bard shuffled slowly toward the door.Â
âBard thought we should tell you, just in case. That just means Dragon loves you all, too. He wonât hurt Virgil,â the Thief said.
Deceit frowned. Hang on.Â
Hang on, there, because that contradicted what heâd said earlier.
âYou said that Dragon wanted to dismember us,â he asked.
The Thief nodded. âI donât know now. He, uh. He was pretty adamant about just hurting me and Child, so itâs a hunch on my part.â
âI donât think he will,â the Bardâs voice had softened.
Deceit glanced at him, catching a tired smile. He waved back at Deceit, then gestured with his thumb to the door. âIâm going to get the others. We should plan for the ball tonight, right? Planning? Thatâs a thing?â
âIt is,â Deceit said, pursing his lips.
He couldnât help but feel that heâd said something wrong, as the Bard dashed out of the room.
âThis whole separation thingâs been hard,â Deceit looked back at the Thief, who was tracing shapes with his finger against his leg.
âI can imagine. Itâs confusing for us, it must only get easier,â he hummed, then leaned over on his knee, âYouâre trusting Bard now?â
The Thief gave him a small glare, noncommittal enough that he gave up after a seconds and looked away. âIâmâŚ.not Roman. Not fully. So I donât have all the answers. Bardâs got some.â
Not Roman.Â
Of course. They shouldnât have been putting their trust in any one or two singular Romans. Each of the Romans was just as Roman as the next.Â
Okay, he should stop thinking Romanâs name, because it was starting to sound less like a word. That fell in line, though, with his prior conclusion about the Imagination. Things were falling apart without any control in here, things that Creativity should be able to control, things that wouldnât typically hurt the other Sides.Â
Deceit frowned, and wrote down another question. Curses; that oversight was on him. Heâd tend to it at another time, though. For nowâŚ. âThief?â
âMh?â the Thief looked up, eyes half lidded with boredom.
Deceitâs lip quirked up in just the tiniest of smiles. âIâm glad youâre safe.â
The Thiefâs eyes widened at first, but then he fell back into a comforting smile. âThanks, Riddler. Letâs get this show on the road.â

Could she have something to do with the disappearances? "I'm sorry, Natsu, but I'm just so thirsty."
Chapters: 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5Â , 6
Read it on: AO3 & FF.net
A/N: Hello again! First of all, shout out to @bmarvels and @mannyegb ; Thank you both so much for Beta-reading this one for me and helping me out with it! And a huge thank you to @the-savior-swan for your help when i got stuck with a paragraph!
Secondly, Im so sorry that this one took so long! But, of course, thank you all for your patience, and your lovely reviews <3 ! This chapter is longer than the last one, I'm working on getting more words into my chapters as they progress; Let me know you all think! Oh, and before i forget; the sword mentioned, its name means âarchangelâ in japanese, and I made up the name of the metal from âEngelâ (hard âGâ), which is the old english word for Angel :) Anyways, I hope you enjoy reading (and hope you thought it was worth the wait!) See you in the next one.
A heavy sigh filled the air in the Kingâs study. Igneel sat down at his desk, sinking into the plush leather chair, running his hands down his tired face. If ever there had been a Dragon carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, Igneel was him.
He narrowed his eyes on the communications lacrima on the oak desk. His call had not gone quite as expected. As for what he had expected, well, he wasn't sure.
He was just painfully aware that his plans had to be put on hold for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, the receiving end of his call had been understanding for the most part. The wise old King suspected that they were growing impatient, however.
A frown was cast on his sharp features, he had been careful and meticulous in his arrangements. Perhaps something had missed his attention, whilst he had been preoccupied with the welfare of his people and the disappearances. Perhaps focusing on the disappearances and in turn trying to raise morale in the kingdom had driven him to rush his plans, maybe heâd been sloppy. Perhaps the young Prince had misunderstood his concerns.
Natsu.
His Son was certainly headstrong and stubborn. Igneel knew that Natsu suffered as their people vanished and losing his friends had been the last straw. Igneel understood that. He just wasn't prepared for Natsu to abruptly leave and investigate alone.
A sharp rap on the door stole his attention. He cast his eyes towards the door, rumbling âCome inâ as he did.
The door creaked open, and a tall woman entered. She had long pale pink hair, almost white under direct light, worn up in a clip. Her sky blue eyes met his.
âThis is a pleasant surpriseâ he thought to himself, sitting back in his chair.
âGrandeeney,â He warmly greeted her, âWhat do I owe the pleasure?â
Her eyes creased at the sides in a half-smile, returning the greeting. She closed the door behind her, coming to sit in the chair opposite him before she exhaled softly, âThey're almost ready to head out.â She wrinkled her nose before continuing, Â âexcept that Wendy thinks she can join them.â
The King was visibly taken aback, blinking in mild shock. But before he could open his mouth to respond, Grandeeney held up a hand and cut him off.
âShe wants to use our sky magic to heal any who are injured. Yet she is still unable to protect herself with her power.â concern laced her features, unable to hide her worry for her daughter.
âShe only wants to help, Grandeeney.â He told her gently, reaching a hand out to her. She let out a resigned sighed in response.
âI know. I am still unsure if she truly has my heritage, however.â She straightened her posture and met his stone grey eyes, âYou may not be of my blood, but you are my kin, Igneel. It is the same for Wendy and Natsu.â
He nodded in agreement.
âWe should have Erza lead the knights out before the hour is done. Wendy shall have to remain here if she truly cannot defend herself yet.â
The wise woman did not miss the subtlety laced in his words. She held his gaze and gave a single nod.
She rose from her seat, âIâll go inform the Titania.â
.
The Angel breathed deeply, slowly releasing his breath. He had a sullen face as he glowered ahead. This was a risk, he knew that, but it was the only lead he had.
Erza would not have approved had he told her, so as much as he hated keeping things from her, he had simply asked her trust him.
The building before him seemed hollow, buried deep into the Mikage forest. It stood stoic and imposing. He tugged the collar of his cloak closer to his face.
Avatar.
They were searching for something⌠for someone. Jellal had a hunch about what exactly they were after. After all, the fallen angel had tried in vain to achieve the same goal. Jellal had done so out of arrogance, driven by a curse, yes, but still he had been aware of his actions and continued to bear his burden. What was Avatar's drive?
The Angel sought his power from deep within his core, welcoming the warmth that tingled and spread down his limbs. The red tattoo above his eye burned an angry red. His body glowed in a gentle heavenly light, no brighter than a star at dusk.
As quickly as he summoned the power he unleashed it, bursting forward at extraordinary speed, a trail of light in his wake. It was definitely quicker than walking.
Summoning all his courage, he landed and with faux confidence strode towards the door, allowing his magic to slip and exude only a fraction of his true power. The mark over his eye remained burning red. He threw the heavy iron doors open.
Weapons and spells were immediately trained on him. He wore a sinister smirk. Startled mutters and shouts echoed around him. Waving his hand easily across his body, all threats against him were dispelled. He scanned the various beings and guards littering the entrance hall, mentally noting that not all of them were magical.
âI hear there's a certain someone you're looking forâ he dropped the bait.
Eyes narrowed on him suspiciously as they sensed his power. They grew instantly more wary of him. One spoke up âI know youâŚâ
Jellal raised his chin, easily reclaiming his old alias and keeping his introduction short, âSiegrainâ
.
Jellal found himself swiftly led through the halls by an Avatar member after his entrance, to where he would be awaited by a high ranking member. Word apparently travelled fast. He kept a mental note of where he walked, silently mapping the building as he went. He ended up being seated within a dark room, heavy curtains framed the large window, and only allowed a small fraction of light to enter.
Jellal often thought himself a good actor, he felt capable of wearing a mask to suit the situation. The âmaskâ he chose on this occasion was that of âSiegrainâ, the one most familiar with his crimes and sins.
He had not expected, however, to be met by a man dressed in heavy cloaks, shrouded in the shadows. The only part of the man he could see clearly was the ornate metallic mask covering his face. Jellal had a suspicion the cloaks covering the stranger were an imitation of some clergy wear.
This man sat before him was supposedly in charge, the leader. Jellal concluded they must be worshipping someone in particular to be so secluded. He was not sure he liked that.
The man began to speak, his voice sounded worn by time, yet demanded to be heard, âSiegrain. What brought you here to Avatar? Perhaps you follow our cause?â There was no question in the manâs voice. He wasnât asking.
Jellal maintained his composure, crossing one leg over the other, resting his cheek on his knuckles, feigning disinterest. âPerhaps I might know your name first? It only seems fitting as you know mine.â He kept his voice smooth and inviting.
The man lifted his head, light glinting on the mask he wore, âVery well. I am Arlock. Now tell me, Siegrain, What brought you here?â
Jellal leaned forward, a sly smile tugging the corners of his mouth. He had to remain in control. âWe share a common interest.â
âI see. We of Avatar wish to purge and cleanse sin. We seek his guidance.â He paused. Jellal felt his muscles tense in anticipation, âAnd what of you, Siegrain? Did you not seek him in your Tower of Heaven?â
He had to maintain his composure. His back twitched involuntarily, remembering his wingsâ old reflexes. The scars burned. He barked out a laugh, âMy âTower of Heavenâ was a futile pursuit. I had already been cast from the heavens, of course. I found it fitting. I sought to create something newâ He neglected the information that he was acting under the influence of a Gorgonâs curse cast upon him, by the very same who exiled him for falling in love.
âA Valkyrie came to stop your experiment if I recall. What became of her after opposing you? The Titania, wasnât it? You clipped the wings of the mighty warrior.â
There it was. It was like ice in his veins. The words cut him like a knife. He felt his heart momentarily still. He felt sick. The way Arlock spoke, as though falsely praising him, mocking him, Jellal wanted to obliterate the man were he sat.
Instead, he grinned. He forced a harsh laugh, spreading his arms, âThe mighty Titania? She is a warrior no more! She was unworthy of bearing the bloodline of a Valkyrie!â His stomach churned violently at his words, silently shrieking his painful remorse for his sins.
Would he ever be worthy of her heart?
He quashed his own emotions, the arrogant mask still affixed, âShe was in my way. So I destroyed her wings. She shall not be a threat to any future endeavours.â he scoffed.
A cruel smile formed on Arlocksâ face, the motion causing the mask to shift slightly, âIt would seem we have much to discuss.â
.
The Titania herself stood in the courtyard of the Fire Dragon Kingâs palace. Her red hair burned in the afternoon sun. Her mind swam with worry, concerned for her fiancĂŠ. She knew how powerful the angel was. They had crossed blades once, and she had barely triumphed, only at the cost of her greatest assets. She had not been quick enough to stop him from killing an innocent, however. The curse upon him at the time had corrupted his very soul.
She had mourned her wings for a long time. She had felt incomplete without them for what felt like an eternity. Her wings had been fierce, dark auburn in colour, adorned with silver cufflinks and feathers as sharp as swords. She had been quick. She flew as fast and nimble as a falcon.
She found her solace in her warrior skills. She had struggled with her balance once her wounds had healed. She adapted. She commissioned new armour to compensate for her new weight distribution. She regained her agility through swordsmanship.
The Titania was certainly every bit as formidable as she had ever been. Yet, on days when the sky was clear of clouds, she found herself yearning for the breeze beneath her wings.
She knew Jellal had caught her wistful gazes. How the fallen angel despaired over what he had done to her. She forgave him long ago. In her eyes, the price to save him had been worth it. He had never seen it that way.
His sins bore heavily on his conscience. She would never forget the day he acted on that guilt.
âI have to atone, Erzaâ
He had cupped her face with a bloodied hand. His face was creased with pain, but he wore a smile. She sobbed. She found him there, after sensing his pain and following the trail. She had panicked when she saw all the blood surrounding him, his back.
âIt was the only way.â
He had done it to himself. A clatter rang out as his limp hand dropped something. She would later learn it was a unique sword, with a blade forged of Engellium, called the Dai-Tenshi. It was the only weapon capable of killing an Angel.
She looked in horror at his mutilated wings. They lay discarded, the fluffy white down stained crimson. Once they had been elegant, large white wings, with long soft feathers that almost trailed the ground. Her heart clenched in agony. How pitiful they looked now. Her beloved smiled at her, even as his body trembled with agony.
His body had glowed faintly, like a light fading out. He fell unconscious as his life bled out around him.
She had immediately rushed him to the healers, Grandeeney and Porlyusica. There were none superior in medicine to the two of them, even as distantly related as they were. He had been lucky to survive, they had told her. His back was painted with lacerations. He still bore those scars today.
She shuddered at the memory. His wings she had lovingly gathered and laid to recover in a place sacred to her. She never told him.
She knew he would be safe. No weapon existed outside of the kingdom that could fatally wound him. Erza could feel her connection to him. Itsâ strength waned with the distance between them. She felt his guilt. Perhaps that was what dragged the old memories to the surface.
She had to focus on now. Her soldiers had been given the order to dispatch. She oversaw them now as they gathered provisions, sharpened weapons and reinforced defences. Her violet eyes were clear and sharp. She saw everything.
Erza glanced up at the sound of approaching footsteps.
âGray.â She greeted him warmly, acknowledging him as her old friend, rather than her soldier.
He nodded to her, fingers fumbling at the buttons of his shirt. His habit was made worse when he was anxious. She shot him a quizzical look.
âWhat are my orders for the mission?â
He looked at her firmly. Her mouth set to a firm line.
âGray, you are needed here.â She wondered if he saw through her words. He was undeniably useful. He and Natsu were best friends after all, and he was strong. She felt the air drop in temperature around him.
Her worries were confirmed. The more Gray used his ice-devil heritage, the more it ate away at his soul. His father had retired from the royal guard due to the toll it had taken on him. Mikaâs death had been the last thing holding back the cursed heritage. The Nymph had always maintained a calm presence, her natural magic purifying her beloved husband and son.
Erza hoped that Grayâs Nymph blood would learn to counteract his ice devil blood. She feared it was a losing battle. Especially now that his mentor had passed away too. His mentor had made sure to teach him how to utilise a more neutral form of ice magic, drawing power from the nature around him. But long would those teachings last now?
She expected Gray to argue with her, given his emotions leaking into his powers. Instead, he sighed, resigned.
âFine,â He reached a hand to rub his head, throwing his removed shirt over his shoulder as he did, âIâll get Ultear and Lyon.â
Erza looked away, back at the guards scattered in the courtyard. âMm. I will send them word.â
She pretended not to see how Gray flinched out the corner of her eye.
âRightâ He mumbled and turned away, heading to leave, âMake sure you find that fiery idiot in one piece.â
Especially if I donât find him first. He uttered a silent apology.
.
Meanwhile, far away from the kingdom by now, a small blue feline glided through the sky. He could smell fish, and boy was he feeling hungry.
He had been flying intermittently for at least a day or two now, landing every so often when he felt tired. He had been snacking on bugs here and there when they took his fancy, but now the faint scent of fish had him drooling in excitement. Happy purred to himself, his initial reason for leaving the kingdom long forgotten in the face of his favourite food.
He flapped his wings, gaining altitude and followed his nose to what he hoped would be his next meal.
.
Elsewhere, a blonde vampire was screaming. Her heart hammered beneath her breast, one hand clutching at her chest, the other pointing accusingly at the man before her.
âWhy are you here!â She screeched, pure terror filling her.
His eyes sluggishly met hers and he moved to reach for her, his movement leaden and slow. He blinked, the motion taking entirely too long, opening his mouth to speak. But no words ever came, he fell limp, his eyes rolling back into his head.
Lucy could feel herself trembling, her mind struggling to make sense of what had happened. The last thing she could remember was being in the roof garden. The fog surrounding her memories was slowly lifting. She could recall suffering Bloodlust. Dread crawled up her spine, like cold fingers creeping along her skin. She knew sheâd passed out in this room.
Lucy swallowed. It became apparent to her that something wet and still warm dripped down her chin. Lucy hesitated. Holding her breath, she drew her outstretched hand to wipe her lips.
She shrieked. Blood.
Her eyes flew to the man laying completely still on the stone floor. She scrambled over to him, her eyes landing on the torn up flesh of his neck. Her heart pounded painfully. She knew the answer as soon as the silent question crossed her mind.
Did I do that?
Lucy could feel the panic beginning to rise in her. Had she killed him? She studied his face, suddenly noticing the shock of pink hair on his head and the large horns nestled within the strands. She tentatively held her hand below his nose. She waited, tension holding her still.
She sighed in relief when she felt his warm breath over her hand. He was still alive. But what was she supposed to do with him now?
Lucy certainly had a lot of questions that needed answering. She couldnât risk letting him leave. Not that he could at this moment anyway. But how had he found her? What was he doing here?
Her face tugged into a frown. What if he was associated with the very person she had tried so long to hide herself from? Lucy shook her head. No, she couldnât risk it.
Juvia.
Juvia might know what to do with him. Lucy stifled a groan. Juviaâs main lake was a half hourâs walk from the decrepit building, she didnât think she could carry the unconscious man that far. That was if Juvia hadnât moved on to temporary new waters. Lucy didnât know how she had been out after her Bloodlust episode, Juvia may have already left to gather more resources by now.
Lucy gnawed on her still-bloody lip. There was one place that she could keep him. Moving carefully, Lucy lifted his arm around her shoulders moving herself to lift him up with her.
He released a small pained whine as she moved him. The scent of his blood drifted back to her again. She could feel her eyes shifting to a darker hue. Shaking her head, ignoring her instincts, she carried him to his new accommodation.
.
The chains clinked as the clasps locked around his wrist. Her gut twisted with guilt. He was carefully laid in the small cot. Her eyes flitted to his face. He looked uncomfortable.
Lucy dropped her gaze, her sights landing once again on the manâs wounded neck. It took her longer to look away from it this time. She realised as she observed him that he had blood on his shirt.
It dawned on her then that he had arrived here injured. She cursed under her breath realising that she really had attacked him. She had finally drank from a living person. She felt her heart crack painfully, now her soul would surely be lost forever.
The vampire continued to examine the wound on his neck, her eyes shifting to a fierce, glowing red. Her body moved of its own accord, lulling her closer to him. Her face drew closer to him, her overwhelming need to ease his pain overtaking her. Her eyes darkened further, shadows forming around them. Inky black creeping in, her irises drowned, leaving only menacing, crimson slits behind. Hovering over him, her lips parted, inching closer to soothe the wound.
The man groaned. Immediately Lucy leapt back in embarrassment, gasping, her eyes reverting to honey gold. Heat filled her cheeks and she recomposed herself, turning on her heel in the direction of aid. She was certainly not going to lick his torn flesh better, but the least she could do was clean it up and wrap him up.

Hey! So Iâm suspecting if I got adhd/add but is there any symptom idk. Itâs really exp here to get it diagnosed
sorry it took me a while to get back to you because honestly i dont know whats a good alternative for you can be so i guess i can share my own experience?Â
first of all i think googling symptoms and types of adhd and reading peoples account on how adhd/add manifest is a good start? my doctor and the reddit /r/adhd REALLY help me to accept myself (which is the first step i think) but the way i get diagnosis (i am adhd with predominately inattentiveness - but at the same time i have depressions and dyslexia which is like a killer combo 10/10 would never rec) is that i came across with an article a couple months about how girls with adhd are more likely to be (mis)diagnosed with depression and it basically fucks up multiple generations because they cant get the help they need and i was like wait whats describe in it sounds kind of like me but at the same time i have always been very lethargic and rather well behaved in class growing up i am nothing like what you would typically associate with adhd (you know the hyper-activeness) so during my next visit to the doctor (im getting treatment for my depression) i mention to the article to her and she said wait you know what describe how you feel in a classroom setting growing up and is there anything you do that teachers complain about repeatedly and tell me how studying and doing homework is like to you and so i did (i can go further into details of my life since a lot contributes to why i only get diagnosis when im 21⌠let me know if you would like to know i guess?)
my doctor (who just so happens to be an adhd specialist and is quite active in the research area i didnt know before then we stan forever i love her really she is so encouraging and so good at her job) took some notes as i was talking and after im done she said you know what i think you might be onto something but i cant be sure yet (since i have depression and dyslexia which both overlaps quite a lot with adhd/add) why dont i first explain to you what adhd is and iâll give you the set of official diagnosis questions you dont have to do it just take a look at it first do some research organize your thought talk to your parents about it and if you think getting a test on it is something you want we can set up another appointment and we can go from there - which is really really nice because adhd has always been a taboo at least with my upbringing it makes you a loser socially academically and you know just in general its not something you will want to haveâŚ.Â
in hind sight there are SO MANY SIGNS even in early childhood how come no one notice i dont know prolly because i grew up in the 00s if you are different you need to kys lmao rip:Â
trouble paying attention in school or work,
the appearance of not listening - although im an audio learner funny enough
avoidance of activities that require sustained focus,
being easily distractedÂ
restlessness
fidgeting and cant sit properly - i shake my legs or click my pen so much especially when im thinking or anxious lmao, i got into trouble a lot when i was younger because i only sit in my seat facnig the teacher 5 mins max at at ime then i move around or i move the chair around i think better when i cross my legs but i went to a uniform school and i always make my skirt too short so you know
interrupting - if i dont say what comes to mind when it comes to mind, the thought is gone forever
frequent talking and talking way too fast - i get the exact same comment every single report day class from when i was 4 till i graduated high school im not even kidding âshe has excellent comprehension skill and reading speed. it would be great if parents can help her out a bit in maths or chemistry. she has a lot of potential if she applies herself, she seems distracted although when we ask her questions she can answer. very helpful and bubbly and yet she talks too much in class. she is not disruptive and her seatmate never complains but she just doesnt stop talking. we have been pairing her up with quiet students in class in the hopes that she will talk less in class but she just turn the quiet student talkativeâ
trying to do multiple things at once - i cant do one thing at a time, even when im say writing a paper i need to be listening to music or talking to someone if not switching between tabs or word files
mood swings
hyperfocus - oh boy oh boy oh boy
impulsiveness - i dont know if i get better as i age or is it getting worse i just know how to clean up my mess lmaooooo
poor time management - although i would say ever since i start listening to stuff 24/7 it really helps build a sense of the passage of time or whatever? its like now i know ok by the time i get to the third song in the shower i need to be washing out my conditioner; or say i need to go somewhere in 40 mins which is really abstract to me i set timers and put on a show thats 35ish mins even tho im not watching it just so im aware of time is actually happening if it makes sense
fail to follow through - i start things and once i have it figure out in my head i struggle to put it down in words or explain it to others i work well with other adhd peps tho
doesnt follow instruction and only do stuff their way
burnout - this is the worst especially if you are a perfectionist or a control freak and guess who is bothÂ
trouble coping with stress -Â
i luck out because im canadian and my doctor (in my schools clinic) just so happens to be a specialist who is very passionate about helping undergrads and grad school students to achieve as much as they can - so doctor and diagnosis for me is free. i do have to pay for my medications out of my pocket for a bit since im on vyvanse (to treat both my adhd and depression-lead anxiety its complicated but it makes sense when my doctor explained it to me lol) and this drug isnt covered by Pharmacare (CAD $130ish for 3 weeks worth of 30mg, im mostly on 30mg but on days when i dont have work on stuff or go to school i take 20mg just so my anxiety dont cause me to explode lmao) and very expensive but recently my doctor and i have agreed that vyvanse really work for me and it is something that i should be on daily for the foreseeable future we applied for special authorization which means i only gotta pay the tax⌠of course medicating isnt a must but it is what works for me and we figure out a way to make it affordable so i cant be more happy about that
at the same time i work with my psychiatrist to you know configure the whole adhd thing cause you know 21 years of repressing and forcing your feet into a shoes that not even your size frick you up thats something people dont tell you đ¤ˇđťââď¸
what my doctor said to me then stuck with me - she told me adhd or add really is no monster or flaw in fact it is a very valuable set of traits we inherit from our ancestor - we hate it now because modern society render these skills useless well you see adhd isnt all about the hyperactiveness you see in the media people with adhd are extra sensitive to their surrounding and prefer hands on experiences (today we call them distracted) they are always aware of the change around them and is capable to attend to a couple things at a time and act fast because their brains are always making sense of things even when they arent consciously doing it. in todays society we dont want these kind of people why? because they ask questions they are curious people who notice trivial stuff that dont contribute to productivity they cant sit still which makes them not the ideal factor workers or pupils BUT! you have to remember that industrialization started like a century ish ago before that our ancestors live in predominately tribal society - adhd people then are the perfect caretakers and protectors, why? because they are always noticing things they adapt and react fast⌠so yeah it kinda suck for us growing up in a system thats designed to be everything we are and it is something that need to be changed but for those of us who âmade it out aliveâ especially people who only get diagnosed in adulthood more often than not they look back and realize they have developed so many incredible ways to cope to make things work - are they always the perfect way? are they always health? no definitely no but at the same time it shows you how incredible these people are they make things work yes things are really hard sometimes but you got to give yourself a pet in the shoulder for not giving up⌠with the help of science and research we now know a little more about how adhd affect people we now have medication and programs developed to help people with adhd - they arent to dumb you down or numb you but instead it helps you to focus better so you can actually hear your entire thought and not just phrases or sentence fragments
#i rambled but i hope my personal experience give u a slight idea of how adhd/add manifest in others? but like i said medicating is not the#only way i think talking to people with similar experiences is helpful too even tho they might not be able to offer you professional medical#advices not feeling alone or that you are a weirdo is so important people talk a lot of about how poor self image among adhd ppls are common#and i think the social pressure is def one of the things that make it worse#i dont know where you are but if you are still in school#i guess talking to a trusted teacher or like social worker would be a good start they might be able to point you to more local and accessibl#resources.... and i mean you can always talk to me im very new to the whole actively combating adhd and not just cope with it but you know#sometimes you just need someone to hear you rant about stuff and im always here... i might not be able to reply fast since im in my last#semester đł and school is killing me lmao but ill try to response as soon as i see it :)))#ask#anon

How much does it cost to own a classic car?
So I was on craigslist looking at Camaros for fun. I came across a 1979 Camaro Z28. The car was completely redone in 2001 and a new 350 crate engine was put in it in 2003. The car has new leaf springs, suspension bushings and tires on it. The new engine and trans has just under 45,000 miles on it as well. The seller is asking $5500. Ive driven it and am pleased. The car seems to be strong and is of good quality. If I were to get this car it would only be brought out on nice days, probably over the summer. Next year the car would be 35 yrs old so im assuming its considered a classic . What would be a good estimate for 50yr old man in Pennsylvania to own this type of a car that is rarely driven. Again the car is in good shape, only a little rust and probably wouldnt even see 1000 miles a year. Just curious for some input.""
When does my insurance expire?
I have a Family HealthPlus insurance that I just renewed thus is valid until next year, I also just got a new job, and my employment insurance is in effect as of July 1. What happens next? is my HealthPlus automatically cancelled or can I use both of my insurances simultaneously? The reason why I am asking is that, I have a referral to extract my wisdom tooth from my old insurance, and would like to use it to do just that. My employer does not allow me to take sick/personal days off in the first 90 days of my employment, so I can't really do that between now and July 1, to schedule an extraction. Thanks a bunch!""

""Silly car insurance cost, why so much?
I am a 40 year old woman who is taking my driving test next week. I have run through some quotes for a car (nothing flash or sporty) and the cheapest I can find is 1450 fully comp. I've just wasted 4 months learning. Why on earth is it so much and why are they getting away with it? It would be cheaper to take the risk and get a fine if I was unlucky enough to be stopped surely? AAA insurance will only pay body shop?
Hi there, My mom was rear ended by an uninsured motorist while driving my car. I have uninsured motorist coverage and AAA estimated the damage to be approximately $1000. I own my car (it's paid off) and I would rather buy the bumper and someone I know replace the bumper, rather than go to the body shop of AAA's choice. AAA does not want to give me a check and is saying they want to pay a body shop to do it. Can they do this? I looked at my policy and it doesn't say anywhere that repair costs are to be paid to a body shop, rather than the car owner or driver. I certainly don't have anything signed that says that and there is nothing in my policy details. Thanks for your help!""

Health Insurance while Pregnant? AZ-?
I'm from Arizona- This clinic I went to advised ACCESS insurance, and when I tried to apply, I was denied for living at home or not being 19 years of age if either of these were different, I would be qualified for this insurance. but because I am 18 and still living at home- and my mom won't help me to get on any type of insurance- I don't know what to do. My boyfriend is stressing me to figure something out. I quit my job to move out of the city and go to my Dad's to better take care of myself. ""Did not want to renew the car insurance, they did it anyway.?""
Our car insurance was expiring on the 28th of may. We had all the premium paid by the end of march. At the end of april we got rid of the car. Couple of days later we received renewal documents from the insurance company. We have been with those company for 2 years, we didn' t make any claims. For the past 2 years we were paying 102 pounds a month. The renewal documents were saying that we only got the 1 year NCB and that our monthly instalment is going to be 140 pounds a month. I rang them on the 6th of may and said that first of all we have 2years of NCB and we want the documents from them proving that , second of all I have asked how come the instalment went from 100 pounds to 140 pounds a month the nice guy explained that there was a mistake (in their system 1 year of NBC was showing) and now it has been sorted and we are going to receive the proof of 2 years NBC and the monthly instalment is going to be 100 pounds. I thanked the guy and said that we do not wish to extend the insurance and I am only waiting for the 2years of NBC. He said ok and I thought it was sorted. We went on holiday abroad on 21st of May and got back on the 7th of June and imagine my surprise when in the post I have found the letter from insurance company with the certificate of insurance enclosed and them thanking me for deciding to stay with them and saying that my monthly instalment is 130 pounds!!! (because apparently i decided not to the the brakedown cover that i had before!!!!) I decided to call them first thing in the morning, but befor I did it i checked my account and of course they have already debited it with 130 pounds. I called them and the woman there explained that they were never informed of not extending the policy and that of course they have it registered that i phoned on the 6th of may with questions but they called me and left a message on my voicemail and apparently i never rang them back. She explained that all I have to do is to send the certificate of motor insurance back and then i will get the money. So i did. Once they got it they rang me saying that now they want the proof of selling/scrapping the car, WHY???I do not think it is any of their business. Especially that as far as I am concerned I am not cancelling the policy , I never wanted it. It is all their fault they did not listen. Can I do something about it, I have also got the funny feeling they are not going to give me full refund that they are gonna come up with something.""

Car Insurance Premium?
I have a car which is insured with company B. I decided to buy a new car and the dealer offered me a 7 days free comprehensive insurance with company C. I put my old car for sale while still under insurance B and on the third day after buying the new car I got into an accident. All accident details and fixes were done with the free 7 days car insurance C. During the process my older car was sold and eventually when I got my new car back from the garage I transferred it to my Insurance B. Now that liability of the accident is dealt with and stayed at 50/50 guilt for both parties, I was advised that my insurance premiums can be affected. My question is will that affect my current insurance B or not? Only insurance C dealt with the accident my insurance B have not paid nothing towards it nor get involved with it. Can my insurance B still go up on renewal due to this accident even under a different insurer?""
