i read somewhere that the bear that saved paris was ordered by idaea, an ancestor nymph/goddess (at least the work called her a mountain goddess tho they might have meant cybele?). i was wondering if there is anything about this in the myths or if i just read someone’s fanfic lmao
Lol I mean, if it was here on Tumblr (or AO3?) it should undoubtedly be more headcanon/speculation! Unless it might have been quoting Servius' commentaries? He's got lots of things not known from elsewhere, after all. In which case I'd be really interested in reading what you read haha.
Because yeah, as far as I know, there's not any known, actual agent behind the bear that nurses Paris (as little as there's a known, actual agent behind, say, the bear that nurses Atalanta until she's found by the hunters that raise her). I think the only two surviving sources that mention the bear nursing Paris is, very briefly, Lycophron's Alexandra, and then Apollodoros' Bibliotheke. (Also Tzetzes' commentary on the Alexandra, but his source is probably the Bibliotheke, because he mentions the five days of care the bear gave Paris, something which has only survived in the Bibliotheke.) There probably were other sources (including myth 'handbooks' like the Bibliotheke itself) where this idea was elaborated on or otherwise recounted, but we've got none of them.
If I was going to give a divine actor behind the bear, though, Idaia would certainly be among my prime choices* for that! Idaia isn't Kybele though, she's the goddess-nymph of Mount Ida itself. She's also the ultimate maternal grandmother of the Trojan royal family! She's the mother of the first Teucer with Xanthos the river god of the Skamander, and Teucer then fathered Batia, who married Dardanos. So Idaia would certainly be in the prime position to notice a stray infant on her mountain and ensure he's fed. An infant she might be able to tell is distantly related to her and thus have additional reason to ensure his safety, beyond the fact that in general nymphs were viewed as kourotrophic deities like Artemis and Apollo are, for example.
(*Other options; the one I've so far went with in my main fic 'verse, which happened to be "fate itself"/Ananke. But Zeus, knowing Paris needs to survive, is another option, and so is Artemis, goddess of the wilds, protector of children, and sometimes being around the vicinity of Troy as she is.)

❖ obligatory FUCK JKR. I donated to a local lgbtq+ organization to match the cost of purchasing this game (yes, she gets royalties with every purchase. this is the only thing I've bought from her.). ❖ fanfiction and fanwork is the only way I interact with harry potter IP these days, specifically because JKR cannot control it. we take power back and seize control by making our own shit. I’m doing my part by making harry potter more lesbian. do not construe my passion for HP as support for JKR. I would like to rip her precious world out of her bigot hands and mold it into something new.
❖ why I call the Beasts professor “Professor Bai”: because I headcanon her as Chinese and Bai is a surname, I’m saying her full name is Bai Haoyin 柏皓莺. Chinese naming convention (same as Korean) puts the family name before the given name, and family name = last name. put in a Western way, her name is Haoyin Bai. (idk why I expected HP to do Asian names correctly…)

Headcanon: The ghost of Max Profitt Haltmann is still out there
So, you may be aware that in canon at the end of Planet Robobot, Haltmann apparently didn't just die, but got completely erased from existence? And thus if the Kirby universe were to have an afterlife, Haltmann wouldn't be in it because his soul got completely erased?
Well, in my headcanons, it's a different story. In my headcanons, he almost got completely erased from existence, but just barely dodged it. He very, very narrowly avoided complete erasure. What happened in my headcanons is that a small fragment of his soul managed to escape Star Dream's grasp, and thus avoided complete erasure. And once that small fragment of his soul went off to go elsewhere, it would materialize. It slowly, but surely, formed into a proper ghost.
It took a few years to come back together, but Haltmann eventually became a proper ghost. And thus, like other normally dead beings such as Queen Sectonia, Haltmann is present in the afterlife in my headcanons. His ghost is out there, just barely dodged entire erasure.
And his ghost is of his original mind. That's right. It's the ghost of the original Haltmann. The Haltmann without his memories having been eaten away by Star Dream. The Haltmann that actually acknowledges Susie, or rather Susanna, being his daughter. This headcanon is based on the quote “Why did I reactivate such a terrible machine? Oh, I remember--I wanted to see her just one last time. How foolish! I should have known that no machine could make such a dream come true.” to explain how he began to start remember everything. He ended up having a moment of clarity right before he died.
Now that I've established that my headcanon universe has a Haltmann ghost in his right mind, you might imagine: what does he think of Susie while watching over her like a god, to her unknowing? Well, I'll explain that further down below as I'll put a 'Keep reading' tag because it could be a long one. I also recommend giving a read to my big post of Susie headcanons because this post will be heavily connected to that post, since that post includes my headcanons as to how Susie is handling Haltmann's death, which will be relevant here.
If you want to know what Haltmann's ghost thinks of his daughter amongst other things, just click on the 'Keep reading' tag down below!
At first, Haltmann's ghost believed that Susie killed him on purpose, but he was quick to learn the opposite as he began to observe her. He's observed her constantly talking about how she never meant to kill him, and has observed her expressing massive shame, regret and grief. He learned that she never intended to kill him, but instead tried to save him... and she just really screwed up and ended up killing him.
He has observed her expressing self-hatred and having an incredibly hard time forgiving herself for accidentally causing his death. He has observed her even thinking about her childhood when her dad was there for her, and how she's been very worried that her dad in his right mind wouldn't have forgiven her for killing him, which is the biggest reason why she hasn't been capable of forgiving herself for it.
He has observed her deliberately doing many things in his memory to make up for his death. This includes that she keeps the golden hair clip that he made for her as a memento of him, reviving and operating the Haltmann Works Company with the goal of consensually helping planets and people with technology, and having a painted metallic statue of him exist in the company's main base of operations.
He has even observed Susie sometimes walking up to that statue of him to have one-sided discussions with him over her regret for causing his death, as well as things that have been going on in her life since. He has observed her even going as far as to hugging that statue, crying. Speaking of crying, he's observed lots of tears of grief come out of her eyes ever since he began watching over her like god.
So, Haltmann's ghost has observed Susie do all these things. Keep in mind, this ghost is of Haltmann in his right mind. He now remembers who Susie is. He knows that she's his daughter. He remembers that she used to be called Susanna, and she just adopted the name Susie.
Her actual daddy has been watching over her like god, and she has no idea of it. The daddy that she's been worried wouldn't forgive her.
Does he forgive her for accidentally causing his death?
....As a matter of fact, yes. He does forgive her.
In fact, he very much forgives her. It's not even a contest! When he learned that it was unintentional that she killed him, that's when he forgave her. All those other things she's been doing in his memory to make up for his death weren't even exactly needed to earn his forgiveness! He forgave her simply for the fact that causing his death was completely unintentional. He is not mad at her for it. He knows.
Although despite that the other things she's done in his memory weren't required to earn his forgiveness, he does absolutely appreciate her for it, and has felt incredibly heartfelt over it. It shows him how much she remembers him in her childhood days, and it proves that she cherishes those memories. It's... it's heartwarming.
It's also the reason why she even mourns him to begin with, though.
Haltmann's ghost eventually learned the whole story. When Susie (or rather, Susanna) was sucked into that dimensional rift from the malfunctioning Star Dream, he assumed that she died. But he came to learn that she actually never died and was stranded in Another Dimension for more than a decade, and that's the reason why Star Dream wasn't capable of bringing her back. Because she wasn't dead.
He learned this because he observed her disclosing about her time of being stranded in that twisted, abhorrent dimension to other people.
He observed Susie constantly ventilating, whether it be to herself or to others, that her dad forgot about her existence and refused to behave like a father to her when she returned. She's been suspicious that Star Dream had something to do with making him forget her.
...That was indeed the case. He was making constant use of that machine to try to bring her back to him, and he ended up sacrificing his memories in the process. He even became aware of it at the beginning when he noticed that he started forgetting things, but he certainly didn't at all anticipate that it would cause him to eventually forget his daughter's existence entirely. When Haltmann's ghost remembered this and learned the end result, it left him mortified.
Star Dream made him change motivation from bringing his daughter back to cooperating with the goal of 'infinite prosperity', which was forcibly mechanizing planets. He wasn't doing that before Star Dream had its claws on his brain. So his ghost found out that's what caused him to start all that crap. He learned how messing with a machine that much turned him into an intergalactic colonizer that steamrolled a bunch of planets by conquering and mechanizing them.
And the secretary that he had? Susie? Who sometimes sang songs for him? Who was the secondary-in-command during these invasions? She was his daughter. Her daughter that he considered a stranger, that he did not know the existence of when she finally came back to Another Dimension to see him again. At that very moment, he literally forgot he even had a daughter at all to begin with.
His daughter returned to him and joined him in conquering planets. She was there with him, and he didn't know it when it mattered most.
...His ghost became absolutely mortified upon learning about what he'd had been done to his daughter ever since she returned to him. That he got mad her for whenever she dared to call him 'dad' and 'father' as he clearly wanted her to call him 'Mr. Haltmann'. That he coldly refused every time she tried to give him a hug or asked him for a hug. That he refused to celebrate her birthdays whenever they came up. That he hamstrung her to harsh working conditions. That he also just generally dragged her into becoming a colonizer with him.
His ghost is hugely mortified and ashamed of himself for having treated his daughter like trash ever since she returned to him, because Star Dream erased all the memories he had of her. He would've never dragged her into those things in his right mind, but he also knows that it was still his fault and he can't run from it! It hurt him to acknowledge that he effectively caused his daughter to commit atrocities because she thought that's what it took to get him to remember her again. And it hurt him very, very much to see all the different methods she resorted to try to get him to finally remember her again.
...None of them worked. She tried to hug him to try to get him to remember her, she tried to sing 'The Noble Haltmann' to try to get him to remember her, she was literally his best employee as she tried her best at the job to try to get him to remember her. She tried absolutely everything she could to get him to recognize her as his daughter again. And she apparently planned to steal the Star Dream helmet from him as her last resort plan when all else failed... even that couldn't make the cut, because it ended up killing him instead!
His ghost is not mad at her at all for accidentally killing him. He forgives her without a doubt. If anything, he feels like he owes her a much bigger apology than what she owes him, as he wishes he could let her know that he's deeply, painstaking sorry for all he did to her.
His ghost is fully aware that he forgot her and treated her like trash is the entire reason why the situation where she went and stole Star Dream's helmet that caused his death happened in the first place.
Even though Susie does mourn her dad, she's also been expressing resentment and anger for what he did to her when she was his secretary, as his ghost has been observing. Her feelings about him are overall complicated. And quite frankly, he can't fault her for it. He can't blame her in the slightest. His ghost is extremely angry at himself for not remembering her existence, and he's harboring a ton of guilt of how he's declined all of her methods that she used to try to get him to finally recall her being his daughter again. He feels awful.
He knows that if he were always like the daughter-forgetting cretin he was, she wouldn't have even mourned him in the first place. He's aware that whatever anger Susie has directed at her dad was clearly the version of him that forgot about her. It does at least warm his heart to know that Susie remembers her real dad, who she mourns.
He feels like a monster for everything he did ever since Star Dream tore apart his mind. He just wanted to bring his daughter back to him, but instead Star Dream conditioned him into turning planets into mechanical wastelands, and his original wish actually did end up happening as his daughter actually came back to him, but he didn't realize it. This wasn't his initial plan. This wasn't supposed to happen!
It's also very clear that Susie doesn't know that her dad was originally just trying to get her back, as his ghost has been observing. While she's indeed suspicious that Star Dream messed with memories because she knows that machine had unbelievable capabilities, she doesn't know why he was using that machine after she got banished. She assumes that he used it to cope with her disappearance because she thinks he didn't know how to get her back, and so she assumes that he stopped caring about her, and let the machine amplify that.
That wasn't the case at all, though! It sucks that Susie will never know the truth about why her dad used that machine after her disappearance. Her perception could be different if she did somehow come to find out the truth. But in some ways, she'd perhaps be even more unwell if she knew, because it'd break her to find out that he forgot her existence as a result of using that machine because he wanted her back. That what she wanted is also what he wanted!
Overall, Haltmann's ghost feels even more guilty than Susie does. Just as Susie wishes her dad could come back so she could apologize to him, he also wishes that and feels like he owes an even bigger apology than she does. The lack of closure just hurts so much!
Even in the modern day of my headcanon universe, Susie's grief is not over. She's been healing, but her grief hasn't been seeming to ever go away entirely. Even her friends tell her that they believe her dad would forgive her because she didn't mean to kill him, but for some reason, she's just not capable of completely shaking off that uncertainty.
Perhaps she'd be more at peace if she ever became fully assured that her dad would forgive her. And he does. It's just an absolute shame she has no idea that his ghost exists and watches over her, though.
And his ghost be lying if he said he was at peace. Because he absolutely isn't. He wishes he could let his baby girl know that he's sorry. For putting her through all that shit when he was still alive.
Neither of the two Haltmanns are truly at peace over the tragedy.
Man, they could really, really use some closure.
Haltmann's ghost basically made it his job to observe Susie and what she does. It's his responsibility as a ghost. It's his burden to bear.
That being said, despite the amount of guilt and sadness that Haltmann's ghost has been harboring, it's not all completely bad. Just like how it's not all bad for Susie, either. As he's been observing, he's been noticing the nice things Susie has been having over the years.
Honestly, he's actually proud of her for reviving the HWC with the goal to consensually supply planets and people with technology. That was his original goal from the start! She appeared to remember that. He's proud of her for making his original goal a reality, and is also proud that it also makes up for the crimes of mechanizing planets.
That many people around the universe are witnessing that the Haltmann Works Company isn't as bad as it used to be. That the Haltmann name is trying to improve after what happened previously.
Her dad's ghost has also noticed that she's been capable of operating this revamped and reformed HWC without Star Dream. Good. Considering everything that machine did to him and her, it's great that she wants absolutely nothing to do with a machine like that ever again.
Susie would probably lose it if she learned that her daddy's ghost, watching over her, is actually proud of her for making his goal real.
His ghost also knows that Susie has friends! He's been doing a lot of observation on Taranza, Magolor and Kirby, as they are Susie's three closest friends. The three she's hung out with more than anyone else.
At first, he wasn't really sure what to make of it. He initially didn't know how to feel that his baby girl has friends that are of different species, because he didn't really allow something like that back then when he and Susie were a happy little family together a long time ago, before that snowball of a tragedy began to occur to ruin them forever.
But he eventually warmed up and is incredibly glad that Susie has these friends. He's glad that she is not alone. He's glad that she has people to talk to. He's glad that she is not entirely devoid of solace.
It warms Haltmann's ghost's heart to watch Susie get hugged by either Taranza or Kirby. He wishes that it was himself doing it, but it makes him glad to see his baby girl even get hugs in the first place, because oooooooh could she really use them. She needs all the hugs.
Haltmann's ghost is aware that he technically met Kirby at the end of his life. That he was technically an enemy. But as he's regained his memories, and that he observes Kirby now being Susie's friend, he no longer has any ill-will or hard feelings towards the pink puffball.
As he's been observing Magolor, he's come to like that goofy egg-shaped wizard. It both amuses him and makes him glad to see the interactions that his daughter has with this guy. It does intrigue him that Magolor is something of a techie, too! And egg-shaped, like him.
Haltmann's ghost has met Sectonia's ghost, and thus they know each other. With that, he's come to know about her tragedy and how Taranza mourns her... and both of these ghosts observe Susie and Taranza finding solace in each other for their similar tragedies. It did bring some extra sorrow in Haltmann's ghost to know that someone else has suffered a similar tragedy to his daughter, and thus it really warms his heart to see the interactions Susie has had with Taranza.
The ghost of Susie's daddy is so glad to see her have these friends. If he was capable of coming back to life, he'd shake the hands of Kirby, Magolor and Taranza as a great big thank-you for looking out for his daughter. For making sure that she is not alone. For sometimes visiting her at her office to give her company. For being there for her.
And he's aware that they're not the only friends that Susie has. He's aware of the existence of her other friends, which are the mage sisters, and that she also seems to quite like that goofy little blue blob that is Gooey, as well as that little pink octopus named ChuChu.
He's aware that without these friends, Susie would be in a much darker place, mentally speaking. So.. thank Nova so much for them!
Haltmann's ghost doesn't want Susie to be in darkness. He wants his baby girl to try to live life as well as she can. And it does make him glad and proud to see that she's at least trying. That she herself is trying to not live in darkness, despite the enormous tragedy that happened between her and her father. That she's trying to live life.
But even to this day, even though she's trying to make her future better than her past, there's a part of her that still wishes that her dad could be brought back to life just so she could say that she's sorry and she never meant to kill him. That she still loves him so much.
If only she ever became aware of his ghost's existence, though. Because he does forgive her, he's even sorrier than she is, and he also loves her so much. He wishes he could be alive to let her know that.
That he could let her know that he's not mad, and he still loves her.
Honestly, even if he was allowed to be alive for just one day, he'd be at peace, if it meant that he and Susie could finally express how they feel about each other. It'd also be likely to make Susie more happy. Even if he were to be alive for just one day and then go back to death, she'd be happy to know that he at least forgives her about his death.
The lack of closure is the reason for the struggles.
He just wants to see her one last time. Is that too much to ask?
Where the frick is Morpho Knight? Why can't he just let Haltmann be alive for one day so he and Susie can express to each other? And while we're at it, why can't he also allow Sectonia to be alive for one day just so she and Taranza can finally express to each other, as well?
Morpho Knight is extremely stubborn about reviving the dead, sadly.
Anyways, that's basically what I got for Haltmann's ghost in my headcanon universe. In the actual canon, it was tragic as all hell that Haltmann's soul got erased from existence. In my headcanon universe where I adopted the concept that a tiny fragment of Haltmann's soul escapes erasure and eventually materializes into a proper ghost like a normal dead being, there could be something about it being incredibly tragic for his ghost to be observing what his daughter has been going through after his death. And how he himself feels about it. And him knowing the lack of closure over the tragedy.
Thank you so much if you've managed to read all of this.

/ᐠ-˕-マ~ my personal guide !

𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞... !
...this is a guide that I have made that will help you decipher all of my little fanfic, edit, and shifting terms. keep in mind that while some of these are useful across other profiles/platforms/websites, some of the terms and their meanings may differ elsewhere rather than on my account (hence why I use words "my" and "personal").
so, without further ado, continue reading to see what everything means and how I use it in my works. it's long, but worth it, trust🤞🏽.
───────── 《 .°•♡•°. 》 ──────────
/ᐠ-˕-マ~ each list is in alphabetical order :) !
𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐜 -
《 ♡ 》 adjective!character : this can get used by either myself or requesters to specify certain traits for a character to have. also includes reader(s), because remember, you are (technically) a character in the story, too :). there can also be as many adjectives as one wants. for example, it could look something like:ㅤpopular!social!reader x loner!quiet!billy batson.
《 ♡ 》 angst : super melodramatic, lot's of drama stemming from problems either caused by outside forces, and/or the reader/characters themselves. can have either bad, unresolved endings, or good "fix-it" type endings. not to be confused with hurt/comfort, which is implied in the name that it's naturally supposed to be a story/fic that hurts you with angst, and then comforts you with fluff at the end. these are my personal fave to write, besides crackfics ♡.
《 ♡ 》 au : this stands for alternate universe. let's say I write a fanfic for, I dunno, henry danger, right? as you know, henry danger is already set in a specific universe. well, as a writer, I have the creative liberty to literally change the entire setting. I can make henry danger take place during the fifties or in space or whatever requested lol🤷🏽♀️.
《 ♡ 》 crackfic : (be warned, I stole this definition from a website 'cuz I couldn't gather the proper words to explain it myself lmao) named after the drug to imply that it can only be the product of a deranged mind, crack fic is identified by its absurd, surprising, or ridiculous premise. the plotline might be twisted into a knot, the fic might be a thick parody, or the fic might feature an unlikely or rare pairing ("crack pairing"). sometimes random, nonsensical, or stream-of-thought fics are termed crack, but other crack fics proceed logically, in character, and with internal consistency from their bizarre starting points. the former is generally derided by fandom as badfic while the latter is often praised. generally, these are humor pieces.
《 ♡ 》 crossover : this means/implies that two (or more) separate stories/fics, universes, and/or fandoms will be blended or written together as one. fair warning, I've never actually done this before (yesIhaveI'mjusttooembarrassedtoeverlookbackonit), but I'd be happy to do it now :). on the actual fanfic somewhere on the page, it would look like this, for example:ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤmaze runner x hunger games (crossover/au).
《 ♡ 》 fluff : this means that the story/fic will be super soft with light elements and no dark/angsty themes. it's pure comfort with no ill will/intent, nothing dangerous, very safe and fun :). good vibes only, supa' good vibes only/ᐠ♡˕♡マ✨️.
《 ♡ 》 headcanon : these are a list of assorted, non-ordered thoughts on the character(s) that I have. if requested, there can be a specific theme or topic to base these headcannons upon, but as I stated, they're basically just lose thoughts I come up with on the fly (and edit, ofc, I edit all my works to the best of my ability before posting). with context, you'll know whether or not the headcannons are specific, but for example, a title or something could look like this:ㅤdarby harper x clairvoyant!reader (headcannons).
《 ♡ 》 hurt/comfort : it's basically where the fic I write will have plot points/themes/elements that will "hurt" its reader, whether the bad vibes are happening to the character, the reader, or just bad vibes in general. it'll give you all the feels, very depressing and/or dark, but don't worry. you will not end this fic without being comforted and lifted back up in some ways, shape, and/or form.
《 ♡ 》 hurt/comfort/revenge : this one I'm pretty sure I made up, but it's the overall same vibes as hurt/comfort, except also, reader get their revenge >:). I rarely ever see stuff like this get written into fics, so I have to enter my Thanos era and do it myself, apparently. this goes out to all my petty readers out there who still wanna be softly loved: I gotchu, bae, we gon' fuck the person that hurt you up, don't worry🤞🏽.
《 ♡ 》 imagine : these are longer fics with fleshed out plot/themes/thoughts (and probably some of my best works, if you're on the hunt for quality💀). they can range between something short, sweet, and simple, or long ass stories that can even have multiple parts ! as long as there's no one around to stop me, my self control pretty much determines the length of an imagine lmao.
《 ♡ 》 masterlist : a masterlist is a complete list of all my works pertaining to one specific fandom and/or character. in my case, each fandom has its own masterlist filled with all of the characters names, with a complete set of all of the works/content done for them underneath.
《 ♡ 》 oc : this stands for "own character" and would typically be something others request me to do. I, personally, don't really have any oc's that aren't apart of my original works, so...yeah lol. if requested, it might look something like this:ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤpeter parker x ocㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤand then their oc would be described to me so I can write it :).
《 ♡ 》 oneshot : typically my shorter writings, intended to be written off of the top of my head with either very quick closure at the end, or maybe even no closure at all. basically, if you want a glorified cliffhanger (that may or may not ever get finished or a second part), this is what you want, and it'll be specified somewhere on the page of my work.
ooc : this stands for "out of character." this implies that a certain character may behave in a way that differs from what is originally presented in the media they're in. this is usually spoken as a prior warning/apology to some less than high quality writing, but of course, you are always free to request a character to be ooc :).
《 ♡ 》 original work : anything that I write that isn't fanfiction is an original work of mine. it will be specified on the page, so it's not really something that needs to be worried about :).
《 ♡ 》 pov : this stands for "point of view", which is basically something that tells you what/who's perspective you're seeing/reading things from. I rarely do anything that switches between pov's, but that doesn't mean I can't or won't. it's just not my favorite way to write, that's all lol.
《 ♡ 》 prompt : this is a short summary/info-dump on the story. it helps you (reader) to get a feel for what the impending work is about.
《 ♡ 》 scenarios : the way I write them is kind of like a staggered mix of short writings/oneshots and listed thoughts/headcannons. again, these are kind of meant to be written off of the top of my head, no real order, but definitely a little bit more detailed. these are also some of my faves to write ♡.
《 ♡ 》 ship/shipping : it's a play on words from the saying, "that ship has sailed." a ship refers to two characters whom of which you want to get/be/stay together. you root for them, love them, or can even ship a character with yourself (which is the whole point of the fanfic work I do💀). the act of shipping yourself with a character can be what guides you and others into writing "x reader" work.
《 ♡ 》 smut/nsfw : it's word p*rn, guys. that's all it is, it's just written smexxy times between you and your (aged up/of age🫵🏽...) faves. others might be more familiar with the citrus chart (a.k.a. lime, lemons, grapefruit, etc.). I don't do that because I've stated before, I'm probably not going to do anything super heavy/k!nky. nsfw stands for "not safe/suitable for work", and I typically use that acronym as a warning before you start reading anything in an...*coughs*ㅤㅤㅤo p e n environment🥴...
《 ♡ 》 timeline : this informs you (the reader) of the specific time the events in the story/fic transpire. when I write, I personally base the timeline/setting off of, again, ✨️vibes✨️ and what makes most sense. but as always, you are free to request a specific time/order of events for me to write.
《 ♡ 》 tw/content : this will let you know of any possible triggers and what overall content is in the/any content I make. tw stands for "trigger warning".
《 ♡ 》 + reader : in my works/descriptions, the "+" sign in "+ reader" indicates that the relationship between you and whatever character(s) written is sibling-like and/or completely platonic. no romantic feelings whatsoever (unless it's like an unrequited love or something else of the sort type of deal/plot). for example:ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤdamian wayne + reader.
《 ♡ 》 x reader : in this instance, the "x" in the term "x reader" implies that the relationship between two characters is romantic. again, I'm sure that there can be certain exceptions, but for the most part, it's what I said it is. for example:ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤgray fullbuster x reader.

《 ♡ 》 consciousness : the fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.
《 ♡ 》 script/scripting : it's basically exactly what it implies. a script (no matter how detailed, short, or long, because you really don't even need to have one) that allows/helps you to focus on exactly what reality you intend to shift to. keep in mind that you do not make/create a "new" reality. you can not create what already exists. you're simply just becoming aware of a reality, and a script can help you do/focus on that.

Undertale Headcanons: Monsters & Magic
so I don't have any new art to share atm, but I've been revising/writing more undertale headcanon stuff so I'm gonna share that!! Putting it under the cut cuz it's gonna be fairly long.
* Monster Biology
Monsters are, to no surprise, quite different from humans in certain aspects. They come in a wide variety of forms, from things akin to animals, to humanoid sentient fire, to incorporeal ghosts. However, there is an obvious unifying trait between all kinds of monsters: magic. They are made of it in part, and its use trickles into many aspects of their society and culture.
The first subject I am going to delve into here are the types of monsters. Broadly speaking, all monsters fall under four categories (which I’ll be touching on in a moment), defined by certain traits in common.
Creature Monsters
Monsters falling into this category are, as the name suggests, those with vaguely animal-esque appearances. This includes more strong animal links like Froggit, more humanoid ones like Alphys or Undyne, or ones that aren’t a clear animal link but still resemble a living creature (ie. Loox). These monsters have a ratio of about 60 - 75% magic vs other matter. This makes them one of the more physically durable types, but with the drawback of a lesser magical potential.
Abstract Monsters
These monsters are those that don’t fit into the creature category (such as rocks, fire elementals, or even skeletons), but still exist in a corporeal fashion. Some speculate these monsters are an offshoot of ghosts, but it’s hard to be certain. They typically have a ratio of ~80 - 95% magic, making them more fragile than creature monsters but also more magically inclined.
Ghost Monsters
Despite the name, ghost monsters are not the spirits of the dead. They are a species of monster made entirely of magic, incorporeal and therefore unable to be injured or killed by non-magical means. However, ghosts are a rare occurrence, formed by either strong emotional “residue” of sorts in an area, or from two ghosts combining their efforts to create offspring. This second option is less common, as most ghosts eventually find an object to fuse their SOUL with and become corporeal, making them essentially like abstract monsters. Since ghosts are pretty rare and often eventually become corporeal, some monsters are unaware that they even exist.
Boss Monsters
Aging in Monsters
Unlike the others, boss monsters do not have a single category of appearances in common. Theoretically they could appear as any kind of monster. The difference comes in their magic ratios, among other important things. First off, they are very uncommon, perhaps more so than ghost monsters. They are often large, containing a stronger than average SOUL and a perfect 50-50 split of magic to other matter. They are more powerful than the average monster both physically and magically, so they naturally take on leadership positions often. Asgore, Toriel, and Asriel are the only known Boss Monsters within Undertale.
Two factors determine the lifespan of a monster: the type of monster they are, and their individual emotional state. As previously established, monsters are made up of a mixture of magic and "dust" (essentially whatever other matter their bodies are made of). As a monster grows older, the magic holding them together loosens. The rate at which this happens varies between types, but ultimately their lifespans tend to be longer than human ones. However, as I mentioned, emotional state also plays a factor in monster longevity— or lack thereof. Hopelessness and similarly negative feelings cause the monster's magic to weaken, speeding up the rate at which the stuff keeping them together loosens.
Ultimately, death comes from a monster being no longer able to hold their body together. This may be from the pain of serious injuries, old age finally catching up, or the obvious but sad reason. Whatever the case, they still can live quite some time if they really want to, as evidenced by Gerson, who's over 2,000 years old!
There are two notable exceptions to these "rules". That being ghost and boss monsters. Ghosts, being made entirely of magic and being incorporeal, are effectively immortal (unless they become corporeal). Boss monsters on the other hand, age through the passing of “life force” so to speak from parent(s) to child. This means that when a boss monster is born, they will age until the death of their parents. At that point they are “frozen” at the same physical age until they have a child of their own. If a boss monster has multiple children, that transfer of “life force” will be altered to compensate on both ends. Same goes for if a boss monster loses one parent but the other is still alive.
One positive element of monster aging is that they have a certain amount of unconscious control over their bodies. As a monster matures, they will start to take on a form reflecting how they want to see themself. This even includes a monster’s gender. Once a monster reaches adulthood they change more gradually as their form is more settled, but it can still change over time.
Death & Aging (Culture)
Death is a rarer occurrence for monsters than it is for humans, and since it has such a strong tie to emotional state, many monsters are not well-equipped to handle the topic. It's often seen as something going wrong that could've been avoided, despite the fact that it's still an inevitable fact of life. Although death is still tragic for humans, we tend to be more accepting of the idea that it's inevitable comparatively.
Emotional health and emotions in general are also taken especially seriously by monsters, since a particularly bad state could be the difference between life and death in some cases. They don't speak much of the dead, certainly do not make jokes or otherwise speak ill of them, even many years after the fact. Death in general is a touchy topic for many, so phrases like "fallen down" are usually used to soften the subject.
In a similar vein, monsters don't catch illnesses, so the idea is somewhat alien to them. It can be difficult to separate the idea of an ailing body from an ailing SOUL, so it's common for a monster to interpret an ill human as being particularly upset at the time.
When a monster does inevitably kick the bucket, it takes a few days at most for their body to become dust, after which their funeral will occur. As established in canon, rather than burying the dead, monsters spread the dust of the deceased over an object/objects of particular significance to that person. That way they can “live on” in that thing, in a way.
Monster Reproduction
Aside from boss monsters, all monster types are sexless (but not genderless, although ghosts are considered agender at birth). To create a new monster, two monsters come together and combine their magic externally, both giving up a small amount of matter and energy to create a new being. It’s a pretty taxing process on both monsters involved, both contributing equally. The resulting child will be a mixture of both parents' features as well, similarly to humans. All kinds of monsters are able to reproduce with one another, except for incorporeal ghosts. The mass-magic composition of the child will be based upon the parents, being an average between the two. The monster with a higher percentage of mass will contribute more of the matter, whereas the one with a higher percentage of magic will do the same in regards to magic. If the two monsters are effectively even, this contribution will also be effectively equal. This means that monsters of similar ratios have a less taxing experience than those who are more varying. Of course, it’s still possible regardless.
Boss monsters are special in the regard that they have biological sexes, and procreate in a (somewhat) similar way to humans and other animals. However, since they’re still somewhat magic-based, they’re able to mix with other monster types. This isn’t super common, but the resulting child has a 50/50 chance of being either a boss monster or the type of the other parent. In fact, generally if any two kinds of monsters create a child, the result has an about equal chance of being either kind, depending on the distribution of magic.
Since monsters and humans are fairly different in terms of biology and how they reproduce, it’s unlikely they could create a cross between the two. If it were somehow possible, the resulting child would likely either be a boss monster or some kind of hybrid, but it's hard to say.
Offspring (Culture)
Although the process of creating a child is faster for monsters than humans, it's mentally and physically taxing on both sides. Making the child may not take long, but there's still a recovery period afterwards to recuperate such a sudden dip in magic and physical matter from the process. On top of this, their long lifespans means most are in no rush to have a kid right away. Due to these factors, it's pretty common to only have one child, if any.
* Magic in Monsters
Last names are also pretty much non-existent, unless a monster particularly wants to carry on a family name (ie. The Royal Family). As a side note, striped shirts on children became a very common thing due to the fact that monsters come in such a variety of shapes and sizes, that it’s helpful to be able to differentiate at a glance. Basically no monster over 18 wears striped shirts.
Magic is a big part of monster life. They’re made of the stuff, and can do many things with it. It reflects who they are, and one can’t fully understand them without it. Magic is a lot about intention and emotion (as reflected in much of monster biology), so a lot of the training in the use of magic involves knowing what you want to do and being able to properly channel that.
All monsters are naturally capable of all types of magic, but will have certain type(s) they’re best at. Of course, the strongest monster is the most well-rounded one, so those looking to really up their skills will often practice forms that are direct opposites to one another (or close to it). Despite being potentially capable of all types, the specific forms that magic takes is often very personal to that monster. Be it a reflection of the species they are, some aspect of their personality, or a combination thereof.
What ARE these types of magic, you may ask? Well, broadly speaking, they can be split into seven distinct categories:
Spellcasting
This form of magic is the most abstract, taking the form of simple shapes (like crescents or spheres for example). It generally doesn’t take as much effort to produce as other similar magic forms, which is usually supplemented with more complex bullet patterns.
Elemental
As one would expect from the name, this covers magic that resembles elemental forces, like fire or electricity. While it is still made of magic, things in this category actually mimic aspects of their respective element (rather than simply looking like it).
Conjuring
This takes ideas from both elemental and spellcasting, while being its own thing entirely. Conjuring magic is a very widely used form, taking on the appearance of real things (like frogs, donuts, or bones), and sometimes mimicking elements of them (eg. a conjured frog will be made of magic and is not alive, but it’ll hop around like one).
Bodily
Magic that affects the body. This can manifest as things like stat changes (including healing), as well as shapeshifting. This type of magic is likely a component to how monsters change form as they age.
Weapon
The name pretty much explains this one, it’s magic that takes the form of weapons. A notable difference between this and conjuring is that the weapon forms are more durable than things made with conjuring, able to be used as actual weapons rather than essentially fancy projectiles. Notably, creating a projectile weapon (like a gun or bow) would require combining weapon magic with other forms, like spellcasting or conjuring, to achieve the proper effect.
Soul
Magic in this category affects the SOUL. This includes the “SOUL modes” used by various monsters in Undertale, like the green soul mode in Undyne’s fight. They are commonly used on another person, but can be used on the caster as well. Notably, a user’s SOUL magic tends to take the form of a SOUL trait they are lacking in comparatively (monsters still have all the traits humans do, just in smaller amounts and are not displayed in their SOULs). For example, Undyne, while a good person, is not particularly kind by monster standards. She uses a Soul-altering magic of the green Soul, which represents kindness.
Colour
This one is more of a pseudo-category. It encompasses magic applied to other types, which give them a different colour and special effect to boot. It seems to pull from other categories (eg. green attacks heal, meaning they are combining bodily magic with whatever type is being used to create the attack). It’s a bit more like an adjective than a noun of magic, in a way. It smooths out the combination process a little, while bringing a little something of its own to the table.
Any two or more magic types could theoretically be combined, to various results. Some combine better than others. Surprisingly, this isn’t super well-explored. Another side note, all the magic forms are represented by these sigils (which have no real significance for monster magic… but more on that in another post).
#i dunno if people will be interested in this stuff but eh#i like writing it#also don't be surprised if there's stuff that seems familiar#my headcanons are pretty much a mish-mash of things i think are cool#and sometimes that includes headcanons i've read elsewhere#undertale#headcanons#lore/world hcs#magic#monsters#safeutdr#undertale hcs

Upper Moon
Headcanons
So i just had this random ass thought and here ya go.
Where they're most likely to kiss you
(including all Upper Moons)
Kokushibo
• Forehead and cheek kisses
• And if you give one back, he has a 50/50 chance of fainting (boy wasn't given too much attention when he was human 😔)
• Mostly depends on if anyone is nearby. If there is, he'll most likely give you a forehead kiss, if not, cheek kissies <3
Douma/Doma
• Alr hear me out.
• Passionate lip kisses and neck kisses
• This man ADORES long, passionate lip kisses with tongue
Akaza
• He will give the back of your hand too many kisses to count
• He will give you one when you wake up, having your breakfast, going to bed etc...
• He also loves cuddling you
Nakime
• Cheek kisses
• She's too shy to give you kisses elsewhere
• But sometimes, she might give you a small lip kiss
Hantengu
• Too terrified to do anything
• Sometimes maybe a forehead kiss
• Give him one back and he might smile :)
Gyokko
• Hear me out again
• Eyelid kisses. Maybe or maybe not because he got mouths where you got eyes-
• Sometimes he might give you a lip kiss if he's feeling good
Kaigaku
• He will be too shy to give you lip kisses
• But one place he LOVES to kiss you at is the back of your hand
• It just gives him that feeling that you are safe when you're with him, so he might do it at random when he is clingy
Gyutaro
• It will take a while before he starts expressing love and affection towards you as he is not used to getting or receiving it 😔
• But once he warms up to you, he will start with hand kisses, and later on in the relation he will give you cheek kisses
• Once in a while, he might give you a lip kiss, but he needs a long time to warm up before that
Daki
• she is a minor so I won't write anything too big for her-
• Most likely, she will give and want to receive hand kisses
• She doesn't care what part of the hand it is, she will give you hand kisses
AAAA FINALLY IT IS DONE!!
I'VE HAD NO, AND I MEAN NO, MOTIVATION!
But it is done! Hope you enjoyed reading my headcanons!

🔁📚💖
Thanks for the ask, @jonsaremembers!
🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times
Okay, I answered that here, so I feel like I should pick a different fic, and I will. I also feel like I should pick a different author, but . . . see, angsty fics by @fozmeadows have somehow become my comfort food. When it comes to the Scar Tissue series, the recordings by @khashanakalashtar have specifically become my comfort food. My phone doesn't keep track of how many times I listen to downloaded audio tracks, at least not anywhere I know how to access, so I don't know how many times I've listened to the end of "Scar Tissue (That I Wish You Saw)" or the middle of "Lick Your Heart (and Taste Your Health)," but please know it's many, many times.
What the series is about: Kent Parson was abused as a kid (it's really bad; mind the tags). Now he's in his mid-twenties, sort of maybe kind of coping, and a bunch of things happen in quick succession that turn his life upside down but ultimately lead to him facing his demons and getting to a much better place. That's super vague because I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but Foz does such a good job (here and elsewhere) at going from very heavy angst to very earned hope and goodness, and I also appreciate Foz's choices in this series about where to write a redemption arc and where to definitely not. (In case you're worried by abuse and redemption arcs being mentioned in the same paragraph, the redemption arc is not for the abuser, I promise.)
📚 A fic you wish you could display on your bookshelf
Okay, this feels a bit like cheating, because I someday WILL get to display this on my bookshelf, but: "Like Real People Do" by @xiaq. This fic is fantastic, and I am so proud of xiaq for finding a publisher and writing an original version! (The link will take you to the AO3 page for the fic, but the text of the fic is no longer there because a version of the fic is being published. If you haven't read it, I, uh, definitely can't help you with that. Nope.)
What it's about: The story follows an OC named Eli who was Bitty's childhood best friend and is now attending college in Las Vegas, where he meets Kent Parson. After quite the meet-ugly, Eli and Kent become friends, fall in love, etc., etc.
💖 A drabble that made you want 100K more words
I take it we're using "drabble" here to mean anything short-ish, rather than something that's exactly 100 words (since the Check Please fandom isn't, to my knowledge, abounding in true drabbles). I've got three answers to this one:
Anything @weneedtotalkaboutfic posts on Tumblr but not on AO3, including all those headcanons and bullet-point lists. (Maybe literally not every single one, but most of them, by far.) I'm including @parvuls in this list item as well, because Lau and Pav seem to feed off of each other sometimes (and Pav has excellent headcanons of their own!), particularly when it comes to those soft dom!Bitty ideas. (Note to anyone who likes the soft dom!Bitty idea and likes/doesn't mind PB&J: the series you're looking for is Directionverse by Khashana.)
"all i need is a life in your shape" by @zimms. It's a short Olliewicks fic where they're both NHL players (and didn't go to Samwell) and they get together during the 2020 COVID pause, and I told Abby in my comment that I would read the fuck out of a companion piece from Wicks' perspective. But also, the fic is basically made up of several vignettes that take place over the course of a few years, so there's plenty of room to flesh it out even more.
"Without Expectation" by @alocalband. It's a short Zimbits fic about Bitty's checking issues translating into issues with physicality in his relationship with Jack. It's so painful and lovely (Jack, especially, is so lovely) and I'm not sure what a much-longer version would look like, but I would read it.
Get in on the ask game!

Do you have any tips for coping with people making problematic comments on things you have written? I'm currently writing a fic that explores communication problems & societal gender narratives. In this context, the main (cis/het) couple have a nasty fight & there is clear fault on both sides. I've had several people attack the female character in the comment section, saying that she is a complete bitch/piece of shit & her husband should leave her - I'm finding it quite upsetting.
First of all, I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It’s painful to receive comments that aren’t thoughtful about your work or you and that are hateful toward a character that you love and in some way is a part of you.
I do think sometimes people don’t mean to be hateful with comments like this. They’re trying to show that they’re invested. Also, sometimes people read fanfic to reinforce feelings they already have about canon, and they’re not really interested in fics that deviate. Sometimes people don’t even seem to notice that it deviates, which took me a long time to understand. Apparently, so many people are used to reading fics in which Draco Malfoy is a pure flower and Harry Potter is a jerk that they assume that’s the fic I’m writing, when as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I was pretty sure we were all starting on the premise that Draco Malfoy was a bigoted bully who was a party to genocide and Harry Potter is a brave and generous savior.
Knowing that people aren’t really understanding my story or considering what it’s actually trying to say--that they’re just kind of repeating the shipper or fanon or headcanon feelings they want all fics to have--isn’t actually comforting. After all, they’re not thinking about my story. But at the same time, it is somewhat comforting to me to realize that my story probably doesn’t suggest that Draco Malfoy is a pure flower, that they’re bringing that from somewhere else, and that even though they’ve decided to ignore nuance in my story, that doesn’t change what my story is.
So, honestly, my response to these kind of comments is usually to just ignore them. But there are other options:
1) Delete. There is absolutely nothing wrong with deleting a comment.
2) Reply. I got a comment not too long ago that to me was the complete opposite of what I was trying to write about. I have to say it horrified me. My reply went something like, “I’m so glad you’re enjoying this story, and thanks for your comment. I must say I’m very sorry this is the impression you received, as I was trying to convey the exact opposite. As someone who deeply cares about [X], its makes me sad that you believe this story [bashes X]. However, I also deeply believe that readers should feel free to have their own interpretations, and in that sense, what you get from the story is just as valid as what I intended. Thank you again for reading.” The commenter clarified that they didn’t exactly hate X and had meant something a little different, which was a little comforting (as I gotta say, the initial comment was SHOCKING to me), though I’m honestly still disturbed about it.
My reply was very polite (I hope), but it’s also okay to just tell someone how you feel--that you’re frustrated/hurt/upset by their comment. It really depends on whether saying that will make you feel better, and whether you’re willing to deal with that person getting angry or there being a confrontation in your comments. Confrontations are okay. Expressing yourself is good. But if it makes you anxious or upset, it’s also okay to avoid it in this instance. The stakes for honesty are low here--the only thing to be gained by it is making yourself feel better, so if just unloading frustration or rage would make you feel better, eh--go ahead. If it won’t, don’t. (If it’s someone you know and must deal with repeatedly, the stakes for honesty are much higher.)
3) Ignore, but formulate a reply. Sometimes the point of expressing all your feelings isn’t for the sake of honesty--it isn’t so the other person now knows The Truth. Sometimes expressing yourself is important so you can understand how you feel, face it, let yourself feel it, and move through those emotions. Sometimes I find it comforting to just let all my feelings out in a reply without posting the reply. When I express my anger and frustration in a reply, I often feel better by the time I finish the reply. I feel no need to release that anger and frustration onto someone else, because I’ve already released it within myself. Then I just erase my reply and basically forget about the comment.
4) Ignore, but talk to trusted friends. Sometimes a comment is so frustrating or upsetting that I feel kind of at a loss. By sharing the comment with people I know and trust, I can a) once again, express my feelings and allow myself to deal with them, b) receive the comfort and reassurance of my friends, who are going to say nice things about me and my story regardless, c) avoid confrontation and upset with a stranger whose opinion I don’t particularly care about either way.
What I would advise against when it comes to this is mentioning the comment to people you don’t know/trust, which includes semi-public spaces like tumblr/twitter/discord/instagram/etc. This, to me, is the absolute wrong thing to do and can be very ugly and unkind. Sure, you get to express yourself and receive the support of your friends, but there’s always the possibility that people will go troll that commenter or make life difficult for them.
The exception, I would say, is if the offensive comment is offensive in a way that deserves public attention. I personally believe that it can be fine to call public attention to things like racist and misogynist slurs or comments inciting violence towards real people etc. In those cases, I believe that social condemnation can actually be useful, though personally I still believe some care should be taken in how one approaches such a situation.
Anyway, this was a long response, but I’m sorry again you’re dealing with this, and good luck on your story! It sounds like a good fic. <3
