when did teenagers go from "I'm not a kid anymore, stop treating me like a baby" to "I'm a minor so any adult that takes what I say and do seriously and tries to hold me accountable for it is just being mean to a child"

#this is mostly about shit I've seen in fandom #specifically the kind of hyperbolic inflammatory posts that get justifiable pushback #only for op to be like “leave me alone I'm a minor and i wasn't even being serious”#but i can only assume this sort of thing happens in all corners of social media #feels like kids that were raised on social media just want empty numerical engagement #and stoop to ragebaity posts for it instead of having anything genuine and interesting to say #until recently i swear all teenagers ever wanted was to be taken seriously and treated like an adult #now they're all SO TERRIFIED of anyone over the mystical age of 18 that the pendulum has swung to the polar opposite position #i was a teenager not that fucking long ago and my god no one i ever knew was like this
