what’s ur list of xmen comics… (I am also working through xmen and I want to see if I’m missing anything LOL)
I mainly use The Ultimate X-Men Reading Order. It's very convenient for me and divided by eras, but, as I mentioned it's missing some stuff so for each era I copy the list to a docs to make into a checklist and look up stuff the list doesn't have from the same era (main things that are missing are solos series like a lot of wolverine issues, cable issues, bishop solo, most of the 1999 gambit solo, rogue's 2001 solo, mystique 2003 solo, emma frost 2003 solo, etc) and add it to the list. the problem with my additions is that I delete my entire checklist when I'm done with each era so I could theoretically dig out my additions to the guide from docs history but it'll take some work. before I started using that list I used this one from reddit for the claremont era (which unlike the ultimate guide isn't missing chunks of Excalibur 1988). it doesn't have Dazzler tho. each list and its flaws ig

someone asked me about scott's brain damage, but i was indisposed at the time and unable to reply (before forgetting) SO: as everyone knows, scott's mutant power are concussive beam blasts which he cannot turn off. to this end, he has to wear red quartz glasses at all times, unless his eyes are closed (so he is able to sleep without glasses on).
briefly, to summarize scott's backstory (also as documented below): scott is the elder son of christopher and katherine summers. they took their two children on a plane ride, only for an "accident," leading to the parents sending both children out with the single intact parachute. (mr. sinister states that scott lessened the impact with his blasts.) scott takes the brunt force of the impact either way to protect his little brother alex. scott ends up in the hospital for a year, during which time alex is adopted. initially, scott seems to recover well, but when his mutation fully presents, he can't control it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(X-Factor (1986) #39)
mr. sinister states that the damage was actually from him, but I think it's clear that Scott also suffers from brain damage from the fall. It's a combination of these factors that really renders him unable to control his powers fully.
likewise, emma frost attributes scott's lack of control primarily to the psychological trauma of losing his parents' and brother. the brain is complex, and i could believe a telepath could turn "off" the neurological pathways leading to a mutation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Astonishing X-Men (2004) #14)
scott acts throughout this arc without his powers, but he also indicates that this will not be permanent.
Tumblr media
(Astonishing X-Men (2004) #24)
Tumblr media
(Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men)
even here, scott seems to indicate that while emma's psychic "help" did allow him to briefly control his powers, it's not something he can maintain for long periods of time. so that to me says he has more of a physiological trauma compounded by psychological trauma which hinders him from training to control his powers.
either way, scott is disabled, specifically in that he cannot control his mutation the way it was meant to be controlled! as such, he relies on aids. notably, these aids (the glasses) also stop him from being able to see colors! scott needs them, but they do impact his vision.

HIIIII it's only recently that I've actually started reading the comics but I can absolutely recommend some of what I've read! FAIR WARNING I'm a Cyclops/Scott Summers fan so a lot of what I've read is really focused on him. but he has some of the best centered comics in my beautiful mind so it's ok
- Avengers vs X-Men (2012): necessary set up for the next series ⬇️⬇️ I don't want to spoil too much but the main thing you should know here is the Phoenix Force gets split into 5 and possesses 5 of the X-Men.
- Uncanny X-Men (2013-2015): post-AvX, the X-Men deal with the aftermath of what happened while under the Phoenix's possession. this is Cyclops' mutant revolutionary arc! he takes kind of a hard turn towards "I'm going to commit violence in the name of protecting my people" and it's awesome.
- House of X/Powers of X (2019): this is considered the launch of the modern Krakoa era (which actually just ended in the newest comics). I would say this is a good place to start if you wanted to catch up to modern day. From here I believe you can go on to X-Men (2019-2021) and then up to the modern day.
- X-Factor (1986-1998): I HAVENT ACTUALLY STARTED THIS YET. it's next on my reading list but it follows the original X-Men years down the line getting back together.
- X-Men: Marvels Snapshots (2020): nice one-shot if you like Cyclops :) his autism swag...
- If you liked X-Men '97, there's also an ongoing comic! X-Men '97 (2024) chronicles what happens leading up to the cartoon. I believe the 3rd issue just came out this week.
brand new mainline X-Men 2024 title run starts july 10th! this will be the first issue since the end of the Krakoa era so it'll be a good place for you to jump in!
VERY important question ive been enjoying xmen cartoon (1992 - 1997) which other xmen should i reading and watching ? Please advise
GOD UMM. i havent actually consumed that much x-men content sadly!! i watched the recent x-men 97' cartoon which id DEF recommend . really fucking good show👍
as for the comics- i dont have much experience in them, but i was going thru this reading list mid last year! i um.. only got to the end of days of future past & the brood LOL but i think its a pretty good place to get into x-men comics...

"I know you don't like to talk about this sort of stuff, but I'm curious..." Mom's been looking through the racks of shirts and jackets at Merry-Go-Round.
Sighing, I pluck a black and white shirt from the rack, wrinkling my nose in disgust. There's no way someone would wear this.
"What are you curious about?" I put the shirt back on the rack, meeting mom's gaze.
My mother was nosy; I'd known it my entire life and experienced it firsthand when dating Steve. She wanted to know everything and loved to hear about my life. I knew it came from a good place, but I was shy to share details with anyone. My usual reluctance was a factor in her excitement when I said I'd be bringing Eddie home to meet her.
Deep down, I knew she cared about who I chose to spend my life with. Mom and dad wanted me to be happy, but I knew that it came with the expectation to move home to Hawkins and mimic their lifestyle.
I couldn't imagine a world where I chose to return to Hawkins permanently; there were too many memories that I didn't want to revisit every day. Besides, I loved the city, the noise, the people, all so different and interesting. And best of all, Eddie was there.
The fluttery feeling fills me again, worrying me. Why did the thought of him cause such an adolescent reaction in me? I need to get it together before I do something or say something stupid and ruin our friendship. Losing him as a close friend would be worse than my parents and family discovering that I've lied to them about my relationship status.
"How did you and Eddie meet? You hadn't mentioned him before this trip. Was it not-- official?" Mom's questions pull me from my growing worries.
"Oh," I rack my brain for a believable answer, "No-- No, it was official. We just..." Damnit! "I wasn't sure if it was the right time to bring him to meet you. You know-- meeting parents is a big step--" And damnit, I'm making this more confusing and convoluted than it already was.
"It is. That's why I'm surprised you didn't mention him previously."
She's found a tear in my story, and I don't exactly know how to patch it up neatly. I move the clothing across the rack, thinking as I pretend to search through the shirts.
"I wanted to make sure, you know-- That it was going to last before I got everyone involved..." Internally, I cringe. It's going to break my mom's heart when Eddie and I 'break up.' I'm only going to make this worse by continuing to talk.
Her face lights up, and I realize I've just made a fatal error. She's all but beaming, probably thinking our 'relationship' is headed towards a wedding arch.
"Do you--" She's trying and failing to hide her smile, "think he's 'the one?'"
I know I have a choice to make here. Sell the lie and say yes, or deny and contradict myself. I choose the lie. Who knows, I convinced Eddie to fake date me; maybe I could convince him to marry me and absolve myself of the lies I'm telling.
I'm so dead.
"Mom, please, please," I can not stress the word please hard enough, "Do not say anything to Eddie--"
"I'm not going to! But, you don't have to worry. The way he looks at you, I can tell you're on the same page."
The way he looks at me? Eddie doesn't look at me like that-- He doesn't. I mean, there's no way-- The fluttery feeling begins to grow once again.
"What?"
"And, he had only good things to say about you this morning at breakfast. I like him a lot. Very chatty for a man."
A chuckle escapes my throat, "He is, isn't he? Really, he never shuts up. But, I like that, I guess." Look at me, not lying! His excessive talking was one of the reasons we ended up friends.
Mom's smile has reached her eyes now as she listens to me speak about Eddie with fondness in my voice.
Her happy expression embarrasses me, and I try to clear my throat subtly, "But, you asked me another question. I think about how we met?"
"Oh, yes. I was just curious. You've never mentioned anything, and I like that types of story, you know."
"Well, uh--" Do I tell her about the band or just skip to the part where he tracked down the Tape World I worked at? Skipping the band part makes the most sense, plus mom would dig the romance of him searching me out. Even if he was only trying to return a ring I'd left behind at the bar. "Well, we met initially at a burger joint, but he forgot to get my number. But-- he remembered that I mentioned working at Tape World. So, Eddie spent the next afternoon going to each location around the city until he found the location I work at. He asked me out, and well, I guess the rest is history."
As I thought she would, mom eats the story up, "That's so romantic!"
I smile down at the rack, "Yeah, I guess it is."

Queen live at Royal Dublin Society Simmonscourt in Dublin, Ireland - November 22, 1979 (Part-1)

Tonight is the opening night of the "Crazy Tour," the tour when Queen decided to go back and play the smaller, more intimate venues (especially the London ones). The lighting rig had to be scaled down to accommodate most of the venues. There used to be five rows of red and green lights and four rows of white, but the red and green have been cut back to four as well. Along with the change in the band's attire (particularly Freddie's pants with knee-pads) and Roger's bass drum head sporting a picture of himself, all these factors make pictures from this tour easy to distinguish from those taken earlier in the year.
Queen's old front of house sound technician returned to the job after a long illness (the Jazz album is dedicated to him for this reason).
The show now begins with an intense drone leading into the thunder and lightning. Combined with their lighting rig (even the scaled down version), this would be a very effective opening of their show. It has been said that people were often left breathless before the band even played a note.
Being their first gig in the UK since releasing Live Killers, the band decide to shake things up a bit by opening the show with Let Me Entertain You, followed by the fast We Will Rock You. The setlist is otherwise mostly similar to the live album and previous tour, with a couple new songs added to the repertoire (Mustapha made its first appearance in Saarbrucken in the summer).
Tonight would see the first performances of Save Me and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which had been recently recorded. The latter has been released as a single and would fare quite well on the charts, becoming their first American #1. Save Me would be released as a single early next year, peaking at #11 in the UK. On stage, Brian May plays the piano on the ballad. Through 1981, he'd play the first two verses on piano and switch to guitar at the second chorus. The instrumentation would change slightly in 1982 with the addition of an auxiliary keyboardist. In the meantime, these 1979 versions would have the band finishing the song at the end of the last chorus, omitting the piano outro.
As for Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian would start on acoustic guitar, switch to a black Telecaster for the guitar solo, and to his beloved Red Special for the finale of the song. Unlike the 1950s-flavoured studio version, it would become a heavy rock song by the final verse. By 1982, the end of the song would often be a relatively long jam. Freddie would play a 12-string Ovation Pacemaker acoustic guitar for the song through 1982, and would switch to a cream-coloured Telecaster from 1984 to 1986. Throughout the years, he would often joke about how he knew how to play only a few chords on the guitar.
On stage, the band end Crazy Little Thing Called Love with a coda similar to the one in You're My Best Friend.
This is Queen's first of four shows they would play in Ireland, and so they perform a one-off version of Danny Boy in the encore. As told by someone who attended the show, almost no one in the audience knew the words of the second verse, while Freddie had done his homework.
During Now I'm Here, a fan manages to make his way on stage for a brief moment, and Freddie sings, "Now He's Here." An audience recording of the song was reportedly broadcast on the radio not long after the show, but no known copy has survived.
At the end of the show, instead of playing their version of Britain's national anthem as always, in Ireland the band use the outro from the A Day At The Races album - the only location where they would make a political gesture like this.
Here is a review of this show from the Dublin Evening Press, submitted by Rob Schoorl.

Fan Stories
“I couldn't believe it! Summer 1979 and I was reading a review of a gig in one of Dublin's evening newspapers. At the end of the review, added almost as an afterthought, was news that the promoter, Pat Egan, was planning to bring Queen to Dublin! I read and re-read it but still could not believe it. Queen, at last, would make their debut in front of an Irish audience! The Crazy Tour would begin in Dublin. Fast forward to the autumn and myself and a number of friends from school eagerly queued up to buy tickets to see our heroes. After buying the tickets, it was a long countdown to the show which would take place on Thursday November 22nd 1979. I still clearly remember the date even after all the years. Eventually the day arrived. That night Queen were on Top of the Pops with Crazy Little Thing Called Love but I didn't mind missing it. We were going to the real thing! After a long day in school we made our way to the RDS in Dublin. After a wait outside the gates we were allowed in to the venue and found a standing place near the front of the stage. I recall it got ever more crowded at the front of the stage and before the show, the tour manager (was it Gerry Stickells?) had to go on stage and appeal to people near the stage to relax and step back. Eventually the lights dimmed, there was a tremendous roar from the crowd, the Pizza Oven exploded into light and there were our heroes only yards away from us. I recall at the time being so overwhelmed by the amazing lights and the fact that we could almost touch Freddie, dressed all in black leather and sunglasses, that I barely registered that Let Me Entertain You was the opener. After that, it was into We Will Rock You and, largely the same songs and running order as the Live Killers album which I knew very well (!!) at that time and had almost worn out playing over the previous months. There were however some exceptions. Of most interest to Queen fans now and the biggest shock to me then was that Danny Boy was played live - a great version, from what I recall which received a terrific ovation from the audience. Also, If You Can't Beat Them was played which surprised me as it wasn't included on Live Killers and I wasn't even aware at that time that it was ever played live. The Dublin show was the first time that Save Me and Crazy Little Thing were played live. I remember being astounded at the power and range of Freddie's voice - even better than Live Killers. At that stage he was developing as a singer and over the next few years became recognised as one of the best rock singers and best frontmen in the business. (Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed with the quality and range of his voice during the final Magic Tour especially when compared to earlier tours?). The gig was a terrific show, especially to a young person attending his first major rock gig, and many of the songs are still memorable to me. During Now I'm Here one idiot actually got up on stage and Freddie sang "Now *he's* here" before he was removed from the stage. One girl also managed to get up on stage and plant a kiss on Freddie during the show. The following night, a couple of songs recorded during the show by someone in the audience were played on the Radio Dublin pirate radio station. These included Now I'm Here. A bootleg of the gig definitely exists *somewhere* but, try as I might, I cannot track it down. I would be grateful if anyone reading this comes across it or has it in their collection, that they get in touch with me!” - John Brogan
“The first night of the Crazy tour - amazing show. Seen some people on the web note that they played Danny Boy that night but for some reason I can only remember Brian playing it as part of his solo and us singing our heads off. Freddie handing out a champagne glass to a friend of mine who still has it. Anyway it was nearly 30 years ago and I find it hard to remember what I did last week never mind that long ago. They ended the show with the outro from A Day At The Races which took me a while to figure out what it actually was. The lighting rig was totally amazing - the pizza oven was aptly named - it was scorching and the intensity of the light when it turned around behind the band to face the audience was something else made a couple of friends that night (in the horse show bar opposite the venue) that I am still in contact with and we are all still crazy after all these years.” - Gary aka hoops
“A couple of notes on the Queen show in Dublin, 1979. Fred was in red trousers, not black as John Brogan has mentioned above. Small point but there you go. And when it came time for the audience to sing along to Danny Boy, almost no one knew the words of the second verse - I remember one chap shouting out to Freddie that he was doing a grand job all by himself. I saw them sixteen times in all and that show, the first, has a very special place in my memory. On the subject of bootlegs from that show, a chap in Aungier Street in Dublin used to have just about every show ever played in Dublin by anyone worth taping. I got a really bad and incomplete (C60) copy of the Queen show from him just as a record of having been there - his voice could be heard just before the start of the show, discussing bootlegging. The tape is somewhere in a box in my house and should I come across it, I'll let you know.” - Paul

No Stones Unturned: Keith Richards
Keith Richards’ interest in the guitar began at a very early age due to his grandfather. Gus Dupree had been a jazz musician during the big band era, who actually toured with a group called Gus Dupree and the Boys in Britain. His interest in the guitar began when his grandfather placed the guitar on a shelf out of reach of the young Richards. He made a deal with the young child that if he could reach the guitar, then he could play it. In interviews, Richards talks about using all kinds of boxes, cushions, chairs in order to get that guitar, His grandfather began to teach him very basic guitar lessons. The first song that he ever learned was “Malagueña,” a Spanish song. He was able to keep the guitar, but his father a war veteran who have been injured at Normandy did not share his son’s musical enthusiasm. Speaking of his father, upon his death Richards was given his ashes, which led to another humorous story about the guitarist. He said in an interview that he actually smoked his father‘s ashes.
Keith Richards attended Wentworth Primary School until 1954 with fellow classmate Mick Jagger. He also lived as his neighbor until family moves separated the two. The pair met again by chance years later on a train when Richards admired an album Jagger was holding. At the time, the latter attended the London School of Economics. He had sent away for Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry albums by mail to Chess Records in Chicago. They immediately bonded over their love of music. Soon after, they formed a band with mutual acquaintance Dick Taylor called Little Boy Blue. A few years ago, a recording for that very short-lived group was discovered and eventually put up for auction. An anonymous person purchased the recording, who turned out to be none other than Mick Jagger. The band folded when Brian Jones approached Mick Jagger about joining his blues group. This led Jagger to bring Richards along to the Bricklayer’s Pub to meet anyone else interested. Here they met Ian Stuart. The Rolling Stones were officially formed.
As previously discussed, a couple of key observations can be made about Richards and the band. First of all, unlike other bands that revolve around the rhythm of the drummer, the Rolling Stones has their tempo always set by Richards. They look to him in order to determine how fast or how slow they should be playing. On stage, this makes him more of the unquestioned leader as far as the music goes. Off stage, that role has alternated between him and Jagger, but now the singer runs everything. The other thing to be noted is that just like Ron Wood and Brian Jones each guitarist like Richards plays both rhythm and lead sometimes within the same song. This guitar weaving was developed by him and Brian Jones, but it is the talent of Richards that allows this to work so seamlessly. Actually, if you were describe his guitar playing overall you would notice that it stands out as in no way flamboyant or showing off. His solos get right to the heart of the matter, but you never see him venture off like his contemporaries Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton. Another quality of his guitar playing emerges in the acoustic guitar. He believe that playing acoustic was the key to maintaining his excellence as a guitar player. Certain songs like “Street Fighting Man” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” were actually originally recorded with acoustic guitar, then placed in a tape recorder and overdubbed using a louder speaker. In 1967-1968, he began to experiment with what are called open tunings. I will try not to get too technical here, but his inspiration for it was how a banjo is tuned. This became a trademark of the guitar sound in later years most notably the 1970’s like “Honky Tonk Women.” Vocally, Richards has sung on almost every Rolling Stones studio album with background vocals. He is also occasionally sung tracks on his own with the most notable one being “Happy” on Exile on Main Street in 1972. The song entered the regular concert set list, which led the band to have Richards sing one or two songs at every concert from then on. Another notable track was on Voodoo Lounge entitled “The Worst.” At a young age, As a student he stood out as an excellent singer in the choir, but when adolescence hit his voice changed, which led him to concentrate more on guitar from then on.
Jagger and Richards began their songwriting collaboration beginning with Andrew Oldham Loog coming on board as their manager. Coincidently, it was Oldham that told Richards to drop the S from his name for a time. A few years later he would add it back. Their first top ten hit was actually not for the band, but Gene Pitney. Another hit was “As Tears Go By” featuring Marianne Faithfull. Their first hit featuring the band emerged with “The Last Time” in 1965. Their major breakthrough came with the song “Satisfaction,” which included a famous riff Richards would later say came to him in his sleep. One of the qualities of their songwriting comes in the sheer variety including r and b, folk, reggae, disco, psychedelic, country, funk, and punk. Unlike other bands of the era, as popular music changed, so did The Rolling Stones. The basic process of the pair actually writing a song usually started with Keith producing the first chords and harmony. Mick would then complete the song with lyrics and a bridge. For the longest time, Mick would have to wait for Keith to create the music before he could start in on the track. This became the case with the recording of Exile on Main Street as he alternated between music and shooting up heroin.
Keith Richards has been active as a producer for the better part of his career, as well. Since 1974, he and Jagger have been credited as the producers of every studio album the band has made. The duo also has contributed as a producer for other artists working alongside other producers. For those albums, the pair are usually listed as the Glimmer Twins, which writers will sometimes refer to them in general. Some of the notable artists that Richards has produced for include Aretha Franklin, Ronnie Spector, Johnny Johnson, and a band signed to their record label, Kracker. In 1987, Richards formed the band the X-Pensive Winos as a solo project, which led to the release of the album, Talk Is Cheap. The album would go on to attain a gold status, and it still sells consistently to this day. The reason for the solo project came about because at the time of Jagger was increasingly interested in pursuing a solo album. This stood out as a time referred to in the band as World War III as Jager and Richards had a monumental fight in endangering the very existence of the band. An interesting sidenote to all of this was the band first originated for the Chuck Berry tribute film, Hail Hail Rock ‘n’ Roll. They would release a second album in 1992 entitled, Main Offender, while Richard‘s most recent release as a solo artist came in 2015, Crosseyed Heart.
As popular culture can attest, Richards has a reputation well deserved for his drug use. The interesting thing about it is that he fundamentally embraces that reputation. He has been arrested on drug busts at least five times throughout his career. The most famous one being at his Redlands estate in England in 1967 along with Mick Jagger. The bust cemented the reputation as the bad boys of rock and roll as well. Surprisingly or perhaps not, he has only served time in jail for the first bust. He was subsequently arrested twice in 1973, 1977, and 1978. Yet, one must know that for the Redlands arrest, which in retrospect was completely overblown by the authorities and the media; he only served one day in jail. As previously noted, he was arrested in Toronto in 1977 for heroin possession. At the time, they were planned to charge him with trafficking, which represented a fairly serious charge. His visa was confiscated, so Richards had to remain in Toronto for at least two months until the case came to trial. Thankfully for the guitarist the charge was reduced to possession. He was finally allowed to leave Canada to travel to United States on a medical visa in order to be treated for heroin addiction. For the most part, his use of heroin has always been the number one contributing factor to his legal problems. This final bust was probably the straw that broke the camel’s back when it came to his heroin use. The legal troubles from this caused such an inconvenience in his life along with court ordered heroin addiction treatment led him to being able to stay clean since 1978. Since that time, he has only used cannabis and alcohol, but never in moderation at times because that would just not be his style.
As previously stated, his decision to get clean in 1978 led to the end of his relationship with Anita Pallenberg. As that relationship was going downhill, he met model Patti Hansen in 1978, who the guitarist would marry in 1983. They have two daughters together born in 1985 and 1986. He wrote a children’s book about his grandfather introducing him to the guitar co-written by one of his daughters, Theodora in 2014. Her participation in the project made it all the more meaningful because she was actually named for the grandfather.
Actor Johnny Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise previously stated that Richards was partially the inspiration for the character. He utilized a few of his mannerisms for the films. As life will sometimes meet art, the Rolling Stones guitarist actually appeared in the third and fourth films of the franchise. The name of his character was Captain Edward Teague. Coincidently, the other influence Depp used for the character was the Warner Bros. cartoon, Pepe Le Pew. These influences that were mentioned by Depp did raise concerns among Disney executives at first because they did not represent the wholesome image of their brand.
Growing up, Keith Richards was hugely influenced by a few notable artists. One of the first emerged in Elvis Presley in the mid-1950’s. The interesting thing about his admiration for Elvis came in the fact that Presley‘s guitarist Scotty Moore was probably much more influential than the king himself. Richards has stated previously that he listened to Elvis records more for the band, not just the singer. The second influence was Chuck Berry, who he later performed on the same bill with early in his career. This led to a funny story looking back, but maybe not so funny at the time. The Rolling Stones guitarist had picked up Berry’s guitar while he was out of the room. Berry came back seeing Richards holding his guitar, then promptly punched him in the face. He told him that nobody ever touches his guitar. Years later Richards would participate in the Chuck Berry tribute film Hail Hail Rock ‘n’ Roll, so time had healed those wounds apparently. The final influence emerged in many of the blues artists of the day, but if you had to name one it would have been Muddy Waters. The famed blues musician emerged as a giant influence on the band from creating their name to the music that they played. Richards played live with him a few times leading to a lifelong friendship. In 1982, in a BBC interview he was asked if the Rolling Stones could keep going for another 20 years. He answered that it is entirely possible using the example of Muddy Waters still performing and looking vibrant on stage at 80.
Keith Richards currently has three residences including ones in England, Connecticut, and Jamaica. The residence in England is actually the same house, the Redlands estate, where he and Mick Jagger were arrested for drugs in 1967. At home, his favorite dish to eat is shepherd’s pie. In his 2010 autobiography, he actually devoted a paragraph on the best way to cook this very British dish. The drummer from the band, the Stereophonics, once told a story that he had accidentally eaten some shepherd’s pie meant for Richards. He was immediately confronted by him, but no punches were thrown. If the guitarist is not working on any music, one thing that may surprise some people comes in the fact that he likes to read books. Although he never attended college, Richards reads quite a bit with a preference for history. He would say in an interview that if he had not become a musician, then he probably would have been a librarian. During his days of using heroin, he once said that he really regretted the fact that it prevented him from doing things like going to a movie or reading a book. Funny guy.

I'VE BEEN PONDERING PEOPLE
Notice how novel it feels to think about this. They continue to improve the world. And so it's clearer to programmers that there are economies of scale. VCs are fighting to hold the line at 20%. Sometimes it's because the writer only has very high-level data and so draws conclusions from that, like the role of technology in wealth creation. This would be an important patent. A third? What's not a theory is the converse: if you're trying to solve problems.
Many evolve into real programs, with real features and real users. Students could learn less, if to improve graduation rates. The total amount of desirable startup stock available to investors will probably increase, because the light is better there. You pick the companies you want to achieve, and to allow programmers to use inline byte code if you need to win. Inexperienced founders read about famous startups doing what was type A fundraising. Most large organizations and many small ones are steeped in it. Lisp with infix syntax and no macros. Since getting the first offer is most of the things you most want to do. The exciting thing is that startups are becoming a more normal thing to do. He might only be a few times richer than you, and merely to call it is by comparison with other startups. Mostly by doing the right thing for your company to do. Another view is that a hacker's idea of a good programming language is not Lisp.
Architects started consciously making buildings asymmetric in Victorian times and by the 1920s asymmetry was an explicit premise of modernist architecture. If they even say no. Not only is fundraising not the test that matters. Avoid investors till you decide to focus on, it will help to understand what they do: you call a function on the macro's arguments, and whatever it returns gets inserted in place of the macro call. Before you can talk to investors in parallel, because some are more promising prospects than others. Now there's a third: start your own company in 1986 too, but it doesn't seem the right answer to be constantly reminding oneself of the grim reaper hovering at everyone's shoulder. That has worked for Google so far.
The most important thing to you and that you should approach this type of investor last if at all. My second suggestion will seem shocking to VCs: let founders cash out partially in the Series A round is the first test: there is no such thing as beauty, then there is no way to get better. But restrain yourself. Startups prosper in some places and not others. And because the points are independent of one another, they work like watertight compartments in an unsinkable ship. Arguing online is only incidentally addictive. One way to appeal to programmers is with software. But different things matter to different people, and most founders of successful ones do. VCs lie and claim the company really needs that much. Writing a list of n things. People interested in local events that one is a perennial tarpit.
But if the founders look away, growth usually drops sharply. It's true, certainly, that most people who wanted computers, he could design one, so he did. In a specialized society, most of the startups who believed that. It's not simply a matter of pride, and a programming language. If you need to win. But there was one who was away half the time talking to executives at cell phone companies, trying to arrange deals. Could anyone make a device that you'd carry around in your pocket like a phone, and yet needs to meet multiple times before making up his mind, has very low expected value. Likewise, a painting that suggests is usually more engaging than one that tells. The next time you raise money from investors only if they require no convincing, and are willing to invest on terms you'll take without negotiation.
For legibility it's more important that letters be easy to tell apart. It is after all necessarily true. Maybe successful hedge fund managers, and athletes all live with the sword hanging over their heads; the moment they start to talk about selling the company to them, Yahoo's revenues would have decreased. Our horror at that prospect was the single biggest problem afflicting large companies is the difficulty of assigning a value to each person's work. They'll do well at it too, because determination is the main factor in the success of any company. That's how programmers read code anyway: when indentation says one thing and that's what the startup is in the same way. The state of the art in programming languages in the next fifty years will have to do your homework. In writing it means: say what you mean and say it briefly. But there was one who was lukewarm leaves, big deal. We knew that if online shopping ever took off, these sites would have to be arranged at least a few days. And this is especially true for strangeness.
They produce something, are convinced it's great, and never more so than in a program they expect to turn out in an hour. For most people the best plan probably is to go to work destroying the company rather than growing it. It means arguments of the form Life is too short for x have great force. But there are lots of things wrong with the US that have economic inequality as if it were some sort of cosmological constant, I'm certain it isn't. Many employees would work harder if they could, is wait. But I bet that particular firm will end up ahead. It takes a conscious effort to remind oneself that the real world, and this essay is the advice we give them. In software, it means you should avoid doing things in earlier rounds that will mess up raising an A round.
After they say yes. For example, one way to make a record. They would say that. That sends two useful signals to investors: that you're doing well, and in addition will help you avoid another pitfall that VCs worry about, and rightly—taking a long time to work on managing investors usually depends on how much money you've taken. What a company does, and has to do if it wants to continue to believe something like this well into adulthood. Treating indentation as significant would eliminate this common source of bugs as well as solutions. Or more precisely, lack of syntax, ever become popular? This would be an important patent. So what tends to happen is that they decide to start drawing like grownups, and one that we spent a lot of people will tell you that taste is merely a matter of pride, and a programming language. But wait till that point. If they reject you in phase 2, you have to introduce yourself, or someone else describes you, it will help to understand what they do: you call a function on the macro's arguments, and whatever it returns gets inserted in place of the macro call. It may just be one way to make yourself find the best startups will do even better, because there could not be anything waiting for it.

list of superhero comics collected based on how much kyakuuu objectively loves them, grouped by publisher but otherwise in no particular order:
DC:
blue beetle (2006-2007): best supporting cast in any superhero comic book I’ve ever read, we’ve been over this before but this series is still Excellent
midnighter (2015-2016): including the midnighter and apollo followup by extension, this is like the only recent series on this list. all I want is for gay fake batman to be happy
animal man (1998-1990): okay so it’s grant morrison behind the wheel so it’s gonna be Fairly Weird Always but you know what, I can dig it
dial H (2012-2013): I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else who Read this comic let alone enjoyed it. yeah, it’s fairly weird (you might be sensing a trend here) but for me it is Just Right. this is like the only new 52 series I’ve read and I choose to believe it’s the best one
watchmen (1986-1987): it seems kinda weird to list watchmen as a mainline DC series given that it’s, y’know, watchmen, but Technically It Is So Here We Go
marvel:
- the unbeatable squirrel girl (2015-present): because god knows the marvel universe could stand to have a little fun sometimes
- ...
- ...god is that really all I can think of
- I mean normally I’d put x-factor investigations (2004-2013) and all-new ghost rider (2014-2015) on this list but both of those series had Really abrupt and/or bizarre finales which means I’d have to reread them and see how I feel about them now
- (like. x-factor investigations is arguably the comic that got me properly Into comics, and I like it a lot even now, but it’s Still my go-to example for Why Comic Books Are Kind Of A Mess, Honestly)
- (in what Other medium could a straightforward story about a private investigation agency end up being about someone becoming king of Actual Hell, and someone gives birth to the antichrist, and someone else ascends to irish goddesshood, and someone Else gets warped into a mute demonbeast for a while but he gets better, and what exactly happened to rictor and shatterstar? did they get trapped in an alternate dimension? I don’t think I understood what happened at the time and I Certainly don’t understand now)
WHY ISN’T THERE MORE STUFF ON THIS PART OF THE LIST

Ways In Which Jehovah's Witnesses Are A Cult
Do not question the appointed leaders.
"Jehovah uses his organization to teach and feed his people. (Matt. 24:45-47) Hence believe without suspicion the truth set forth by the “faithful and discreet slave.”" Watchtower 1962 Sep 1 p.524
"That faithful slave is the channel through which Jesus is feeding his true followers in this time of the end. It is vital that we recognize the faithful slave. Our spiritual health and our relationship with God depend on this channel." Watchtower 2013 Jul 15 p.20
"“The faithful and discreet slave” was appointed over Jesus’ domestics in 1919. That slave is the small, composite group of anointed brothers serving at world headquarters during Christ’s presence who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food. When this group work together as the Governing Body, they act as “the faithful and discreet slave.”" jw.org 10th Nov 2012 (x)
"We need to obey the faithful and discreet slave to have Jehovah’s approval." Watchtower 2011 Jul 15 p.24 Simplified English Edition
"In Jehovah's organization it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to that very thing, …"Watchtower 1967 Jun 1 p.338
"Since Jehovah God and Jesus Christ completely trust the faithful and discreet slave, should we not do the same?" Watchtower 2009 Feb 15 p.27
"To act consistently with our baptism for life and into the Greater Noah we must submit to and cooperate with that slave and its legal instrument, the Watch Tower Society." Watchtower 1959 Oct 1 p.583
"But Jehovah God has also provided his visible organization, his "faithful and discreet slave", made up of spirit-anointed ones, to help Christians in all nations to understand and apply properly the Bible in their lives. Unless we are in touch with this channel of communication that God is using, we will not progress along the road to life, no matter how much Bible reading we do." Watchtower 1981 Dec 1 p.27
Many more citations/quotes from Watchtower Publications about following the direction of the “faithful and discreet slaves” and not questioning them can be found at this article: (x). The article is from jw facts and is very informative!
Limit association with people outside your faith. / All people outside your faith are evil!
"While some contact with worldly people is unavoidable - at work, at school, and otherwise-we must be vigilant so as to keep from being sucked back into the death-dealing atmosphere of this world. Let the world go along in its way, reaping its bad fruitage in the form of broken homes, illegitimate births, sexually transmitted diseases, such as AIDS, and countless other emotional and physical woes." Watchtower 1987 Sep 15 pp.12-14
"We must also be on guard against extended association with worldly people. Perhaps it is a neighbor, a school friend, a workmate, or a business associate. We may reason, 'He respects the Witnesses, he leads a clean life, and we do talk about the truth occasionally.' Yet, the experience of others proves that in time we may even find ourselves preferring such worldly company to that of a spiritual brother or sister. What are some of the dangers of such a friendship?" Watchtower1994 Feb 15 p.24
"The principle behind Paul's warning applies to our associations both outside and inside the congregation. (1 Corinthians 15:12,33)" Watchtower 1997 Jul 15 p.18
"Any recreation you take outside of school should not be with worldly youths." Watchtower 1964 Sep 1 p.535
Don't listen to people that have left your faith.
"Apostates “quietly” bring their ideas into the congregation, like criminals who secretly bring things into a country. ... The Bible says that apostates are mentally diseased and that they use their teachings to make others think like them. (1 Timothy 6:3, 4) Jehovah is like that good doctor. He clearly tells us to stay away from false teachers. We must always be determined to follow his warning. ... We do not speak to them or invite them into our houses. We also do not read their books, watch them on television, read what they write on the Internet, or add our own comments about what they write on the Internet." Watchtower 2011 Jul 15 p.11
"So, if doubts, complaints, or apostasy threaten to contaminate you spiritually, cut them away quickly! (Compare Matthew 5:29, 30.) Get help from the congregation elders." Watchtower 1989 Oct 1 p.18
"It would be a mistake to think that you need to listen to apostates or to read their writings to refute their arguments. Their twisted, poisonous reasoning can cause spiritual harm and can contaminate your faith like rapidly spreading gangrene."Watchtower 2004 Feb 15 p.28
"As loyal servants of Jehovah, why would we want to peek at the propaganda put out by rejecters of Jehovah's table..." Watchtower 1994 Jul 1 pp.12-13
Don't look up stuff about your faith on the internet. (See above citation from the July 15th 2011 Watchtower.)
If you leave the faith you are punished and you will never be able to talk with your loved ones in the faith again. (Which is against Article 18 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights).
"Thus "disfellowshiping" is what Jehovah's Witnesses appropriately call the expelling and subsequent shunning of such an unrepentant wrongdoer." Watchtower 1981 Sep 15 p.22
"… a simple "Hello" to someone can be the first step that develops into a conversation and maybe even a friendship. Would we want to take that first step with a disfellowshiped person?" Watchtower 1981 Sep 15 p.25
"What if we have a relative or a close friend who is disfellowshipped? Now our loyalty is on the line, not to that person, but to God. Jehovah is watching us to see whether we will abide by his command not to have contact with anyone who is disfellowshipped.” - Watchtower 2012 Apr 15 p.12
“Consider just one example of the good that can come when a family loyally upholds Jehovah’s decree not to associate with disfellowshipped relatives. A young man had been disfellowshipped for over ten years, during which time his father, mother, and four brothers “quit mixing in company” with him. At times, he tried to involve himself in their activities, but to their credit, each member of the family was steadfast in not having any contact with him. After he was reinstated, he said that he always missed the association with his family, especially at night when he was alone. But, he admitted, had the family associated with him even a little, that small dose would have satisfied him. However, because he did not receive even the slightest communication from any of his family, the burning desire to be with them became one motivating factor in his restoring his relationship with Jehovah." Watchtower 2012 Apr 15 p.12
"Do not look for excuses to associate with a disfellowshipped family member, for example, through e-mail." - Watchtower 2013 Jan 1 p.16
"And all members of the congregation need to be determined to avoid the company of disfellowshipped individuals." Watchtower 2011 Nov 15 p.5
"Is strict avoidance really necessary? Yes for several reasons. ... In other cases, the disfellowshipped relative may be living outside the immediate family circle and home. Although there might be a need for limited contact on some rare occasion to care for a necessary family matter, any such contact should be kept to a minimum." Keep Yourself in God's Love (2008) pp.207,208
These are just SOME of the many quotes from Watchtower Publications that tell witnesses to shun disfellowshipped members, even if they are family members. If you are interested in more, jw facts has an excellent article here: (x) which is where I got most of these citations from.
You are warned against having independent thinking.
"We also remember that one feature of 'the wisdom from above' is being 'ready to obey.' Due to background and upbringing, some may be more given to independent thinking and self-will than others. Perhaps this is an area where we need to discipline ourselves and 'make our mind over' so that we can perceive more clearly what the 'will of God' is." Watchtower 1987 Feb 1 p.19
"Avoid questioning the counsel that is provided by God's visible organization. some who point out that the organization has had to make some adjustments before, and so they argue: "This shows that we have to make up our own mind on what to believe." This is independent thinking. Why is it so dangerous?" Watchtower 1983 Jan 15 p.22
"First, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature Christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned. He does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding." Watchtower 2001 Aug 1 p.14
You must automatically believe everything the leaders tell you, even if it contradicts previous teachings or logic.
"If we have love for Jehovah and for the organization of his people we shall not be suspicious, but shall, as the Bible says, 'Believe all things,' all the things that the Watchtower brings out" Qualified to be Ministers (1955) p.156
You are only allowed to read their publications on bible teaching, NOT anyone else's.
"False religious propaganda from any source should be avoided like poison! Really, since our Lord has used "the faithful and discreet slave" to convey to us "sayings of everlasting life," why should we ever want to look anywhere else?" Watchtower 1987 Nov 1 p.20
People that leave the faith are referred to as liars, evil, mentally diseased, and you should think of them as being dead.
"Beware of those who try to put forward their own contrary opinions." Watchtower 1986 Mar 15 p.17
"We must hate [the disfellowshipped person] in the truest sense, which is to regard with extreme active aversion, to consider [them] as loathsome, odious, filthy, to detest." Watchtower 1952 Oct 1 p.599
"Yes, they were driven by envy. The same harmful emotion has turned apostates into vicious haters of their former brothers. (1 Timothy 6:3-5) No wonder that envious men are debarred from entry into God's Kingdom! Jehovah God has decreed that all who continue to be "full of envy" are "deserving of death." Watchtower 1995 Sep 15 p.7
You’re not supposed to just read the bible, you must also read Watchtower Publications.
"From time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of Jehovah's people those, who, like the original Satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude...They say that it is sufficient to read the Bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home. But, strangely, through such 'Bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom's clergy were teaching ..." Watchtower 1981 Aug 15 p.29
"To turn away from Jehovah and his organization, to spurn the direction of "the faithful and discreet slave," and to rely simply on personal Bible reading and interpretation is to become like a solitary tree in a parched land." Watchtower 1985 Jun 1 p.20
If you leave the organization, you will die.
"With apostates earth wide being destroyed, what reason can one have for confidence of life in paradise to follow?" Kingdom Ministry Sep 1973 p.6
"For one thing, some of the apostate literature presents falsehoods by means of "smooth talk" and "counterfeit words." ... Those who have continued to feed at Satan's spiritual table, the table of demons, will be forced to attend a literal meal, no, not as partakers, but as the main course-to their destruction!" Watchtower 1994 Jul 1 p.12
The organization discourages higher education, i.e. more access to those outside your faith, those who have left your faith, brings about independent thinking, etc.
"What though of higher education received in a college or university? This is widely viewed as vital to success, yet, many who pursue such education end up with their minds filled with harmful propaganda. Such education wastes valuable youthful years that could best be used in Jehovah's service. Perhaps it is not surprising that in lands where many have received such an education, belief in god is at an all time low. Rather than looking to the advanced educational systems of this world for security, a Christian trusts in Jehovah." Watchtower 2008 Apr 15 p.4
Major time commitments as a way to control your behaviors.
Rather than looking to the advanced educational systems of this world for security, a Christian trusts in Jehovah." Watchtower2008 Apr 15 p.4
The weekly schedule for activities witnesses are told to do: Monday - Book Study preparation from a Watchtower publication, Wednesday - Service Meeting preparation from Watchtower publications, Thursday - Attend the Ministry school and Service Meeting, Friday - Watchtower study preparation, Saturday - Preaching and placing Watchtower publications, Sunday - Public talk and Watchtower Study.
"First, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature Christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned. He does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding. Rather, he has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and "the faithful and discreet slave." By regularly taking in the spiritual food provided "at the proper time"-through Christian publications, meetings, assemblies, and conventions-we can be sure that we maintain "oneness" with fellow Christians in faith and knowledge.-Matthew 24:45. Watchtower 2001 Aug 1 p.14
Reporting of other members/Confessions of “wrong doing.”
"If he does not do this within a reasonable period of time, concern for the cleanness of the congregation should move you to report the matter to the elders" Watchtower 1989 Oct 15 pp.14-15
"It is certainly not easy to confess to others deeds that one feels ashamed of and to seek forgiveness. It takes inner strength." Watchtower 2001 Jun 1 p.31
"A person who becomes a witness to a serious sin should encourage the wrongdoer to report the matter to the elders. He may encourage the wrongdoer to seek help from the elders and confess; and if the wrongdoer does not do so, the witness will then inform the elders." Pay Attention to Yourselves and all the Flock p.118
"Jehovah will oppose any who sin grievously and who then try to remain in his clean organization without confessing their error to the visible authorities in the Christian congregation. The person who falls into sin, but who wants to do what is right, should go to the overseer of the congregation and make an honest confession of his transgression." Watchtower 1963 Aug 1 pp.473-474
"Therefore, after we have given the erring individual a reasonable amount of time to approach the elders about his wrongdoing, it is our responsibility before Jehovah not to be a sharer in his sin. We need to inform the responsible overseers that the person has revealed serious wrongdoing that merits their investigation. This would be in harmony with Leviticus 5:1, which says: "Now in case a soul sins in that he has heard public cursing and he is a witness or he has seen it or has come to know of it, if he does not report it, then he must answer for his error." Watchtower 1985 Nov 15 pp. 20-21

This post is not meant to harm or offend Jehovah’s Witnesses, merely to criticize how the religion is run by the Governing Body. I do not wish for the Jehovah’s Witness religion to disappear, I only wish that they would change their rules and views. The only thing I advocate for JWs to do is to is critical and independent thinking. Thank you for reading and making it this far.

Sever-Jug
Ever since the nuclear explosion in Chernobyl had started World War Three in April 1986, things had been changing. Pretty much all of humanity and most of the larger animals had been wiped out by the nuclear war. But the insects however, were thriving. The effects of the new weapons had made the insects stronger, and more intelligent, even human-like. They could speak, make buildings, and even create beautiful art. In Macedonia it was the bees who were the dominant insect, with huge bee hives all over the Balkan nation, and new ones popping up daily. Tonight was the night of Skopje Fest. One of the biggest musical events in Macedonia. And this time there was an extra prize for the winner. The winner would not only get prize money, they would get to represent Macedonia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Ever since insects had become dominant across Europe they had been holding the contest, a celebration of European insect music. Many in Macedonia wanted to go and represent their country at the grand event. Skopje Fest would decide who got that honour. The bees sat on the bench, eagerly awaiting the start of the festival. "I hope everyone here is ready!" Vlatko Ilievski grinned, "We'll be starting soon. Good luck everyone!" Vlatko had won Skopje Fest before, back in 2011, and had gone to Eurovision then. He already knew what the contest was like. Tonight he was performing the song 'Sever-Jug" with his friend Risto Samardžiev. That this time it was a duet was certainly interesting, all of Vlatko's past Eurovision attempts had been solo efforts. "I think everyone is ready here," Risto said, "I can't wait for it to start already!" "No pressure, ok?" Daniel Kajmakoski said, "What is important is that a good song and performance is sent to represent Macedonia, that is all that matters." "Well you would say that, wouldn't you?" Tamara said, "You are the favourite to win the whole event." Daniel was indeed the favourite to win the contest. He was a new arrival to the hive, no one was quite sure what hive he came from originally, where that hive had been or even what happened there, only that his old hive didn't exist anymore. Still, he had been welcomed into this hive with open arms and was now quite at home there. He had already won another competition, the X Factor Adria in Serbia, and his coach had been Zeljko Joksimovic, one of the most famous singers in the entire Balkans. It seemed that it very likely that Daniel would win the contest. Still, it wouldn't be a certainty until the results came in at the end of the show. It was a little while later, and the bees were still waiting. Daniel had expected the show to have started by now, but they were still waiting in the green room for the festival to start. Kaliopi, the interval act, was sitting with them now and singing to keep everyone entertained. At that moment, they heard a lot of shouting outside. Kaliopi stopped singing and flew over to the window to see what it was. "What's going on out there?" Kaliopi asked. It was then that Kaliopi saw that they were holding signs. Signs against Skopje Fest. "Uh oh," Kaliopi said, "It's the protesters." "Well that's not good," Dimitar said. There were protesters outside again. Protesting against Skopje Fest. It was the older bees of the hive who were doing it, as usual. They had expected this, but still, it was annoying. "What, again?" Vlatko asked, as the protesters started to shout louder, "This is every year now!" "Hey!" Risto yelled, turning to look through the window at the protesters, "Keep it down! This is just a music show, that's all! It's harmless!" Risto was an older bee too, but he was an exception. Risto enjoyed the Macedonian music scene and he enjoyed making music, but the other older bees did not typically enjoy musical activities, they preferred to pollinate flowers. They were concerned that the younger bees would stop pollinating flowers entirely in favour of music shows like Skopje Fest and the Eurovision Song Contest. This was a real concern throughout some sections of the Macedonian bee society. Every year, the protests against Skopje Fest were getting worse. "No to Skopje Fest!" shouted one of the protesters, "Yes to pollination!" "Please stop it!" Daniel said. But the protests outside just got louder. At that moment, the host of the show, Vasil Zafircev, flew into the room. "Guys," Vasil said, "I'm not sure we can start the show just yet. The protesters are trying to break into the arena." That had only happened once before, during Skopje Fest 2009. But the security had been good back then, and they had stopped the protesters from breaking in. Risto, Vlatko and Kaliopi had all been there during the 2009 event when the protesters were stopped from breaking into the arena. "Oh, that nearly happened before," Vlatko said, thinking back to the 2009 event. "Yeah," Risto said, "I remember that. But still, they were stopped back then, they'll be stopped now." "I'm not so sure," Kaliopi said, "The protests were smaller back then. Every year they are getting bigger and bigger." "Hey," Vasil said to the Skopje Fest contestants, "Try not to worry about it, ok? This isn't your problem. It's ours. We will fix this, and we will stop anything bad from happening to the festival tonight, understand?" "Yeah," Risto said, "Thanks, Vasil." "Now then, I've got to go and get the security team so we can fix this," Vasil said, and with that, he flew off. "You guys think he can really stop it?" Daniel asked. "Sure," Vlatko said, "After all, they've been stopped before." "But..." Daniel said, "As Kaliopi said, the protests are bigger now." Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted again by banging coming from outside, banging against the walls and windows. "So, um..." Dimitar said, "They can't break through the windows, right?" "I don't think so?" Risto said, "I sure hope not." At that moment they saw the security bees flying around, taking the protesters away from the arena. "Phew," Kaliopi said, "Well that's good at least." The protest had stopped, but it was very late now. Vasil flew back into the room. "Guys," Vasil said, "We've stopped the protests but... unfortunately we have to postpone Skopje Fest until tomorrow. I guess that's ok with everyone here?" All the bees nodded. "Yeah," Daniel said, "That's fine. It's just a shame that some bees are trying to ruin the festival." "True," Vasil said, "But don't worry, we'll make sure tomorrow is fine. In fact, it'll be the best Skopje Fest ever!" They sure hoped it would be. And with that, Vasil flew off. The Skopje Fest contestants continued sitting in the green room for a while, while Vasil and the security team made sure that the protesters were actually gone. While they were waiting, Tamara looked down at her phone, looking for any news about Skopje Fest. All the news was about the protests there. She knew the protesters would hate that she had a phone, but most bees in Macedonia had phones now. That was just the reality of life in the hive. Technology made things so much easier. She continued scrolling through the news. There were news articles talking about tonight's event and the odds for the festival had come in too. It seemed that Daniel would win the contest for sure. Miyatta had been looking at Tamara's phone, and saw the odds. Miyatta looked a little annoyed at that, and flew off to collect something. It was only a few minutes before Miyatta flew back into the room, clutching a piece of paper. "Just wait a minute!" Miyatta yelled, holding out the piece of paper to the other bees. That was the other thing that the older bees were against, using paper and technology like humans would, but there was no time to think of that now. "What is it?" Tamara asked. "Daniel Kajmakoski is not who you think he is!" Miyatta said, "The reason that his old hive is gone is that... he... he... he ran away from his hive! His hive was attacked by hornets and he ran away! Instead of fighting, he ran away!" Gasps of shock came from the other bees. They had not expected that. In Macedonia, for a bee to do that was unacceptable. If something ever happened to the hive, the expectation was that every bee would stand and fight to protect their hive and defend their queen. Daniel Kajmakoski had broken the number one rule of Macedonian bee society. He had ran away from his hive. He had abandoned his fellow bees. He had abandoned his queen. The others bees couldn't believe it. All thoughts of the protests against Skopje Fest went out of their minds. Now all they were thinking about was this. Kaliopi flew over to where Daniel was. "That's not true, is it Daniel?" Kaliopi asked, "Daniel, tell us that's not true!" Daniel didn't say anything. He just looked down at the floor, mostly feeling ashamed, but also feeling shocked that someone could have dug up his secret past like that. How did Miyatta know? How did she find out? He guessed that Miyatta had been planning on revealing the information if he won the event, but now that it was postponed she had decided to reveal it anyway. "Daniel?" Kaliopi asked again, "Daniel? Talk to us, please." "I... I..." Daniel looked down at the floor, his wings drooped low, "I'm sorry." Tamara nearly dropped her phone. "So it's true..." Tamara said. "I... I'm sorry," Daniel repeated, not making eye contact with any of the bees, still looking down at the floor.
---
The queen bee, Elena Risteska, sat up in her chair. She had been called to a meeting and that was a rare thing indeed. And of course, it was about Daniel. Daniel Kajmakoski was a big star throughout Macedonia, but this new information was unacceptable. At that moment, the door opened, and Daniel himself flew into the room. "You... you asked to see me, Queen Elena?" Daniel asked. "Yes," Elena replied sternly, "And you already know what it's about. Everyone in Macedonia is talking about it." "I know..." came the reply. Elena looked down. She was sad that she had to do this, but she had been left with no choice. "Daniel Kajmakoski," Elena said, "You are hereby kicked out of this hive forever. You are banished as of now. That is the queen's decree." "What!" Daniel said, shocked, "But! Wait! No! Please!" Daniel hadn't expected that. He didn't know what the punishment was going to be, but he hadn't expected banishment. "My decision is final," Elena said. "But wait! Don't!" Daniel yelled, but the queen bee ignored his pleas. The guards came and dragged him out of the room, they flew with him for a while before coming to a wall. The hive wall. The guards opened a window and tossed him out of the hive. Daniel tumbled onto the soft grass below before flying up, looking at the hive he had just been banished from. He wasn't sure where he would go now, but he would have to find somewhere.
---
It was the day of Skopje Fest 2014. All of the contestants were there, except of course, for Daniel Kajmakoski, who had been banished from the hive. The conversation between the bees quickly turned to Daniel's banishment. "Is it really fair to judge him though?" Risto asked, "No one here has ever been in his position, our hive has never been attacked by outside forces like that, ever." "Risto, listen to what you're saying!" Tamara said, "What Daniel did is terrible, Queen Elena had to banish him. She didn't want to. But she had to." "Well, she didn't have to do that though, did she?" Risto said, "She could have chosen not to banish him." "Not with what the public are saying," Tamara said, "If Elena allowed Daniel to stay here they would have been very angry indeed." Suddenly, they heard a noise from outside. "Oh no," Vlatko said, "Not the protests again. I thought Vasil was going to stop this from happening?" But as the bees went over to the window, they saw that it wasn't the protests. It was... "Hornets!" Kaliopi yelled, "Hornets! Hornets are in the hive!" At that moment, Vasil flew into the green room, looking very worried indeed. "It's hornets!" Vasil yelled, "Hornets are here! Skopje Fest is cancelled! Run! All of you!" Most of the contestants flew out of the green room when they heard that, but Vasil stayed where he was. Technically, if there was ever an attack on the hive during Skopje Fest, Vasil was supposed to force the Skopje Fest entrants to fight alongside him, but he couldn't bring himself do that. He was going to let them leave, but he wanted to stay and fight the hornets himself. "Vasil..." Kaliopi said, "Aren't you coming? You'll be safer if you come with us. There's safety in numbers, after all." "No," Vasil said, "Me and the security team are going to try and stop this." "Vasil no," Kaliopi said. "I have to do this," Vasil said, "I have to protect the hive. You guys, go, find safety someplace. I'll be fine, I promise. But I have to do this." Kaliopi didn't want to leave Vasil behind. The other bees had to drag Kaliopi out of the green room. The bees flew away, away from the arena, not knowing where to go, just knowing that wherever they went, it had to be far away from those hornets. As they were flying away, Risto spoke up. "Well... you do all realise that we're doing the exact same thing that Daniel got banished for, right?" Risto said. "Be quiet Risto," Tamara said as the bees continued flying on their path. "We are not soldiers," Dimitar said, "It's not our job. It's fine." "Actually," Kaliopi said, "Technically every bee is a soldier. Every bee must defend the hive... every... no. I can't fly away while Vasil fights them with only a few others. You guys go on ahead, I'll go back to Vasil." "No," Vlatko said, "Don't do that! Kaliopi!" But it was too late, Kaliopi had already flown off. "We should go after her, she can't go and fight the hornets," Risto said. "It's her choice," Tamara said, "It's what every bee is expected to do, automatically." "Yeah," Dimitar said, "So why aren't you doing it?" Tamara just looked down. "Be quiet," Tamara said, "Keep flying." And so they all kept flying. Some might think it was hypocritical, that Daniel had been banished from the hive from fleeing hornets and yet, when faced with a hornet attack themselves, many were choosing to do the same thing. But Macedonian bee society was contradictory at its core. All the Skopje Fest entrants were worried about now was avoiding those hornets.
---
The hornets were coming closer to the arena. Vasil flew out and stood directly in their path, security bees on each side of him. "Hornets!" Vasil yelled, trying not to sound scared, "Don't you take another step closer! Don't you dare!" The hornets just laughed and flew even closer to him. "I mean it!" Vasil yelled, "You are not welcome in this hive! Do you want a war with us? Leave now at once or you'll regret it!" The hornets just laughed again. Vasil was starting to regret his decision to stay and fight. Suddenly, Kaliopi flew over to Vasil. "Kaliopi!" Vasil yelled, "No! I told you to run!" "No way," Kaliopi said, "If you're going to fight, then I want to fight too! I couldn't just leave you back here, it's not right!" "No..." Vasil said, "No no no, you can't do this." "I want to do this," Kaliopi said, "I have to do this." The hornets were laughing even louder now. They came closer and closer to the bees. One tried to swipe at Kaliopi, but she dodged the hornet. They realised know just what a bad situation they were in. They were just little bees, and the hornets, they were much stronger. Suddenly, something fell down from the sky. A net. It covered all of the hornets, trapping them underneath. No matter how hard the hornets tried to flap their wings, the net held them firmly in place. There was no escaping for them now. Vasil and Kaliopi were shocked. "What... is that?" Kaliopi asked. "It's a net," Vasil said, "A huge one, like the kind the humans used. But... where did it come from?" "It's a miracle," Kaliopi said. "Not quite," said a voice as a bee flew down towards them. Daniel Kajmakoski. "Daniel?" Kaliopi said, "You're back? But... how? I thought you were banished!" "Um, well," Daniel said, "Technically I'm still banished. But when I saw those hornets flying into the hive, I just couldn't stay away. I had to do something." "Oh,  but it is good news though," Kaliopi said, "I've been worried about you. And Elena will surely let you stay when she hears about what you've done for us tonight!" "Well, that's the thing," Daniel said, "There are two groups of hornets who have come into this hive. But don't worry, I know where the other group are, and I have another net. So I'll go and get them. Kaliopi, Vasil, you two stay here, ok?" "Alright," Vasil said, "Good luck Daniel!"
---
Meanwhile the Skopje Fest entrants were still flying. Now they had come to the wall. The wall of the hive. "So, what should we do?" Vlatko asked, "Do we leave the hive or what?" "Are you guys sure there are no guards there?" Dimitar asked, "If there are guards there and we get caught then they will definitely make us stay and fight the hornets." "Is the hornet attack even well known about yet?" Risto asked. "It probably will be now," Vlatko said. "But, if we left," Joce Panov said, "Where would we even go?" "That's a good question," Dimitar replied, "I have no idea." They all hovered in the air, trying to decide whether they should leave the hive or not. There was safety in being part of a hive, but right now the hornet attack meant that the hive wasn't so safe.
---
Meanwhile, Queen Elena was sitting reading a book, her guards all around her, when the door to the palace burst open. Hornets flew inside, and looked down upon the bee queen. "Oh no!" Elena yelled, "Hornets!" Elena turned to her guards, but was horrified to see that her guard bees were flying out of the palace windows and out of the door, leaving her all along with the hornets. "What!" Elena said, "Where are you going? Stay here and fight! Fight for your queen! Fight for your hive! Protect your queen! Protect me!" The hornets were laughing even louder now, as more of the guards fled for their lives. "No!" Elena yelled, "Come back! Defend your queen! Come back! Please! Protect me! Help!" There were no guard bees left now. Just Elena and the hornets. The hornets just laughed again. "We are going to destroy you, take over this hive and then take over Macedonia," one of the hornets said, "We want hornets to be the dominant insect in Macedonia, not you puny bees!" The hornets surrounded the queen. "Wait, no!" Elena yelled, "Don't! Please!" Suddenly, a net flew down from the ceiling. The net trapped all of the hornets underneath it, but missed Queen Elena. Whoever threw that certainly had very good aim. A bee flew down from the palace ceiling. Elena was very surprised to find that it was Daniel. "Daniel?" Elena said, "You came back?" "I did," Daniel said, looking down at the hornets trapped underneath the net. "I... I can't believe it," Elena said. Elena flew out of the palace and flew outside with Daniel, when they came across the Skopje Fest entrants who were still trying to decide whether or not they should leave the hive. The hive wall was right next to the palace, after all. "Guys!" Elena said, "Good news! The hornets have been defeated! You guys must have been trying to fight the hornets too, right?" "Yeah," Risto lied, "We were doing that!" "Sure you were," Daniel laughed. "So, the hornets are gone now," Elena said, "And it's all thanks to Daniel. I certainly made a huge mistake when I banished him from the hive."
---
Queen Elena stepped forward, holding a medal towards Daniel, who took it and hung it around his neck. "Daniel Kajmakoski," Elena said, "We owe you a lot for saving our hive from the hornets. You are no longer banished from the hive. Obviously, you have learned a lot since whatever happened at your old hive, and we are proud to have you here in our hive." "Thank you, my queen," Daniel said, bowing to the queen bee. Elena just laughed at that. "Please," Elena grinned, "Call me Elena." "Thank you, Elena."
---
Elena looked down at the hornet prisoners at her feet. They were in a cage now. They had nearly destroyed the hive, they had nearly took over. Once, they had threatened her, now, they were no threat at all. "Well, I am feeling generous, so I won't kill you," Elena said. Some of the hornets looked relieved at that, but that look would disappear when they heard what the queen had to say next. "But it'll be close to it. Your wings will be ripped off and you will be thrown out of the hive onto the field outside," Elena continued, "That's right, you will have your stings removed and your wings removed. You will never hurt anyone ever again! You will never fly again! And the few birds that remain will probably eat you." The hornets yelled as they were dragged away for their punishment. It was harsh justice, but it was bee justice. The insect world wasn't all rainbows and butterflies.
---
Skopje Fest had already been postponed twice. Now it was finally the day for Skopje Fest 2014 to actually happen. "Sorry Daniel," Miyatta said as they all waiting in the green room, "I misunderstood you." "Hey, that's ok," Daniel said, "A lot of people did, so don't worry about it." At that moment, Vasil flew into the room. "Are you guys all ready?" Vasil said, "We're going to be starting the show soon." "We're all ready," Vlatko grinned. The show began and everything went by perfectly. All the songs went by and now it was time for the insects of Macedonia to vote for who they wanted to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. After Daniel saved the bee hive from the hornets, it was clear who the winner would be. Daniel had already been the favourite because he had won X Factor, and now, he was an even bigger favourite. The Macedonian public had forgiven Daniel for abandoning his old hive, since it was clear that he was loyal to his new one. "And the winner..." Vasil said, looking down at the card in his hands, "Of Skopje Fest 2014, is... Daniel Kajmakoski and his song 'Lisja Esenski.' Congratulations Daniel! You're going to Eurovision!" Daniel flew onto the stage where Vasil was. "Wow," Daniel said, turning to face the audience, "Thank you. Thank you all so much." And so, Daniel won the festival, and won the right to represent Macedonia at Eurovision. Everyone in the bee hive was happy. And it was all thanks to Daniel Kajmakoski for saving the bee hive from the hornets. Daniel was celebrated, not only in that bee hive, but throughout Macedonia. The protests against Skopje Fest never happened again. The older bees even started to accept technology and modern things. And the hornets never attacked again. It looked like the bee hive would have a real and lasting peace. Fin.
