♒ - cooking/food headcanon from the headcanon list 👀

Oooh this is a fun one! I don't see a specific character mentioned so I'll just give my general BG3 tiefling food/cooking headcanon 💕

Generally, I think heavily meat focused meals would be popular with tieflings.

To my best understanding/currently accepted headcanon, tieflings exist because they have a fiend as a distant ancestor (or because their parents/themselves made deals with devils, but in those cases I think the tiefling just carries on the standard Faerun food/cooking tradition that they were raised in).

Cambions are more immediately related to devils (one parent is a devil and the other is a mortal) and it's mentioned in lore that their diet is entirely carnivorous. And so for me it stands to reason that a preference for meat would persist down the line for future tiefling generations too.

Plus they have those sharp fangs that are perfect for tearing into meat.

I think tieflings can of course still enjoy non-meat related foods too, though. In fact, if you try to pickpocket some of the tieflings in the druid grove in act 1 many of them have pears in their bags, and if you save Danis then Bex gives you those homemade cookies she seemed to already have on her as a future snack.

I just mean that the tieflings all definitely include at least a couple of meat dishes in every meal- breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I can't recall who first said it, but someone else also mentioned that tieflings would love spicy food and I 100% agree. Infernal heat resistance and spice tolerance just go so well together, you know?

Also, I think cooking together and eating communally is very important to them as a group. They're pretty universally shunned by Faerun, so strong family ties would probably be significant for them and bonding over shared meals fits perfectly in that dynamic.

Lore seems to claim that tieflings don't really have their own culture or foods because they're such a scattered people, but I call BS on that. In real life, the Roma/Romani peoples have historically been shunned and treated horribly and they're pretty scattered too but they still have their own distinct cultures and recipes and languages that persist and survive.

Sooo, I think tieflings definitely have their own unique recipes that they pass down from generation to generation and I think they make the best meat based spicy curries you've ever tasted in your entire life. Listen, will you have heartburn for three days afterward? Yes. Will it be worth it? Also yes.

hii sundew, i've popped in to ask: who is your favourite asoiaf character? specifically from the main 'game of thrones' timeline.

it's just dawned on me that although i love so many of those characters, but my #1 absolute favourite is jaime... the redemption arc and journey of reflection and growth he goes on really reminds me of you know who, and although they're not really similar personalities, i can't believe i never picked up on some parallels between them until now!!

YEEEEEEEE!!! So I have a lot of characters that I absolutely adore throughout asoiaf, but my all time favs are Daenerys and Jon Snow, but their book counterparts because they were absolutely butchered in the later seasons of the show.

I can totally see the parallels between Jamie and Reiner, but I also see so many parallels with Jon Snow as well. It took me a while to warm up to Jamie's character development and he's defiantly on my top 10 as of now. But Dany and Jon are just sooo 🤌🏻🤌🏻

It's really hard to find a character that I personally resonate with in the main asoiaf timeline because I love so many characters. As much as I love Daenerys and Jon I think the one I resonate with most Catelyn. And yes I know she was not the best to Jon but I don't blame her one bit, do I still get a bit annoyed with her? Oh for sure, but god I love that woman and Lady Stoneheart. I think I love women with a bloodlust for revenge, especially in this universe, like YESS KILL THEM!!!!!!

Now tbh, there are two characters that I resonate with more than Catelyn but they're from fire and blood. Rhaena the queen in the east and west, and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. It's probably the eldest daughter syndrome but Jesus Christ I love those two so so so so so much. Rhaena is absolutely iconic, "I fed my last husband to my dragon, if you make me take another, I may just eat him myself" like, yes queen. And Rhaenyra deserved everything and more, my baby, I'd be her top soldier if I were fighting for her ngl.

So all in all Catelyn, Jon, Danearys, Rhaena and Rhaenyra are my top asoiaf & fire and blood characters. There's so many to choose from but hehehe here are my babies. <3.

Stede/Ed, Our Flag Means Death--However much I dislike season 2, I did actually really enjoy their ending all things considered (the big I love you, the retirement which would've been stupid if the show got renewed but it didn't so I'm fine with it) and season 1 is one of my favorite seasons of TV ever. So. Them.

Dani/Jamie, The Haunting of Bly Manor--Sometimes I forget how much I love these two, but then I rewatch Bly Manor for Halloween and they're kinda perfect. I really love the tragedy of their relationship against like, the romanticism of it all. While there is the Bury Your Gays stereotype that we should always be mindful of, I think this show is a really good example of how you can have romantic tragedy (which kinda happens to every couple on the show.... these two arguably have the most time together) which befits the Gothic genre, PLUS heart and true love. That never really dies.

Patrick/Tashi/Art, Challengers--WELL THEY'RE UP THERE NOW. I'm trying to stick to onscreen things because my favorite queer romance novels would be ANOTHER POST, and these three gave me that same feeling. Like, in my mind, it's really not a question of whether or not this is canon. That ending is a polyamorous ending lol. I refuse to accept anything else.

Anne Lister and Ann Walker, Gentleman Jack--LOL THESE TWO WENT THRUUUU IT and I wish the show had gone on longer, but I really loved their chemistry and like... I don't know. It was a very complex and messy relationship, but I kinda feel like you often have this sanitized version of queer love in media at the moment? And I liked that the complexities of this relationship--infidelity, is Anne using Ann for money, does Anne love Ann but have such massive trust issues that she can't pull off happiness?--is seen in SO many het couples in period dramas? Like, we accept that in a het period drama without blinking, and I kind of appreciated that all those "seducer" tropes were here, too.

i tried to make the whole death thing a little less repetitive and kind of brush over it until it got worse and worse and more serious and the whole concept was cheaply influenced by a movie where the two love interests know that they’re dying bc of their sickness but then i added a set, concrete date for dani and yn to die LOL idk lowk my creative juices were being juiced with this one… i was THINKING … and yeah i tried to fit in as many details and things that you’d have to remember form the beginning or middle idk i just rly like how i structured this one (the pacing is stilll iffy to me but wtv( bc i tried to have things tie together well and whatnot

makeout scene had me giggling and blushing while reading it was inspired by the anon who sent a makeout ask like smth ab “imagine making out w dani for the first time” and originally it wasn’t going to be there but i think it added to their bond and tension and lalalala yeah

no i couldn’t make them.die without knowing they’re meant to be but i had to try to figure out how to make the reveal angsty and i was like might as well have them figure out before they die and SOEAKJNG OF WHICH it took me a good amount of time while at work and making drinks to think of a way for them to die idk this story was so spontaneous and changed a lotLOL

and yes the whole beach thing was lowk inspired by summer strike bc i like the small town environment and how cute the beach is i haven’t even finished the drama im on ep like eight and haven’t watched since a few months ago LOL but i think the beach is just so calming and small towns r just sooo relaxing and nice compared tot he city (that being said i will always be a city girl…) idk beach city energy is just so wonderful and fits dani bc she grew up in newcastle and her whole vlog kinda gave me ideas for the world building and whatnot

YES, Dani needs to see and especially feel with his own eyes and hands that Jorge is okay. And the fact that Jorge knows and lets him do that. Because they give each other comfort and Dani gives him so much comfort and that's one thing he can do for Dani and while it's self understanding, Jorge also does it to make Dani feel alright. And the other way round, DEFINITELY, Jorge makes sure Dani takes his painkillers and gets enough of whatever medication has to he put on the sore spots on Dani's chest. And with Dani not having a shirt on, it's so intimate but again not sexual. Jorge just loves touching Dani and take care for him. And Dani already is feeling a little less miserable with Jorge doing this for him. He reaches for his hand in the process and whispers a thank you and Jorge just smiles and kisses him softly because there is no way he wouldn't be doing this for his husband.

And Jorge loves to have the people he loves in his arms and close by and he holds them so tight and everything is perfect in that moment. And just like his husband, their daughter also comes up to him when he's in distress and hugs him. Or when she isn't in a good mood, she spots their dads sitting on the couch and wordlessly climbs on their laps and spreads out and holds their hands and they love each other so much.

That crying part killed me. Like yes, for sure, sometimes Jorge isn't able to say what he is feeling like, especially in the beginning of their relationship. And Dani holds him through it and brushes through his hair and while everything feels like shit right now, he has Dani and he will be okay again together with Dani ❤️

Okay Jorge making sure Dani takes his meds is sooo personal to me. Cause idk why but Dani has the vibe to not be taking his meds regularly. Don't get me wrong he knows they are important and he's responsible and all but between all the tasks he wants to get done and his need to hide his injuries, he sometimes forgets that he has to take them because they help him. So Jorge be randomly coming in with a glass of water, handing it to Dani with his meds to make sure he takes them. (if I ever find a love like that - cause I too tend to forget my daily meds - I am literally laying dead on the floor Fr). And he applies the creams and even if Dani is shirtless, it's not sexual like you said. That's actually my absolute favorite and definitely kills my mind every time. It just has so many layer of love to me.

And my favorite things in our convos is how we both refer to them as husband most of the time. Like during the time they were racing but I think they'd get married post retirement (Idk if you agree) but they're just acting too much like husband not to. And honestly I'd say it's the same for them. Imagine Dani being like "Yep that's my husband" And Marc turns to him like "Wait. When did you get married" and Dani is like. "Not yet but he is my husband." And Marc can't even argue with that. Cause if someone are husband's it's them.

OOOOH maaaan the thing with their daughter. Yes. Oh! Oh! Imagine they are at a race track (maybe Dani is doing a wild card or they're both there as commentators) and their daughter is running around and just runs to Jorge and attaches himself at his leg (maybe he got scared by the loud bikes or smth) and he just picks her up and let's her cuddle against him while he's still doing his job.

Oh and I think they would be bringing their daughter randomly and half the motogp world be like "HUH?!" cause they had never made a post about her. OR if they aren't even out in that moment, imagine the girl would be first with Dani. And everyone assumes she's Dani child. But then she's with Jorge in the afternoon and she called Jorge papa. So she's Jorge's? But then the next day she's tugging at Dani's sleeve to hold hands and she called him papa too. So now everyone is confused or laughing about the confusion.

And I have to add to the last part. Yes. JUST YES YES YES YES YES. Jorge be breaking down not even sure why he's able to cry infront of Dani but he's just too comfortable around Dani not to show his emotions. And then afterwards his bad thoughts are still lingering and he's cursing himself for being weak and crying and apologizing to Dani for "burdening" him and Dani just grabs his face looks him in the eyes and says. "If you ever feel like you can't cry infront of me or you can't tell me how you feel, I will literally do anything to make you comfortable again. I love you. You're not weak. You're not stupid for having emotions. None of that. I love you. And I will always comfort you when you're sad. I will always be there for you when you need me."

you are playing a dangerous game dani i am sooo unhinged about that fic. it's my magnum opus. my brain child. my baby. it contains some of the finest writing i've ever done and i love the way the story evolved along with my characters over the years. for a long time before i was really active on tumblr/fandom again, writing that fic was my only real connection to the hp world (other than rereading the books themselves); i started the first chapter when i was around 17 ... and i'm 25 now lol.

i'm not the kind of person who outlines stories, i kind of just sit down and write and let my brain take things where they want to go. so when i wrote that first chapter all those years ago, i still hadn't worked out a lot of later plot points, like what sirius did to cause the fallout between him and james, james' relationship with lily, etc. i like to think that this story was as much of a wild ride for me as for the readers because i literally did not know what to expect until i sat down to write it.

also i adore the themes of love and violence the story touches on. i wanted to make readers think about love as a destructive force, love with carnivorous teeth, love that burns everything in its path. love as a kind of devotion that borders on religion. all-consuming, devastating, and uncontrollable. the kind of love written about in wuthering heights, macbeth, anna karenina. love tinged with obsession and lust. love resembling psychological torment.

i just think sirius and james, with their natural codependency, and this intrinsic idea that they're each other's soulmates, make the perfect pairing for a story like that. i wanted to know: what would it take to break down a relationship between two characters who would die for each other? how deep the wound, how sharp the blade? i wanted readers to be both horrified and unable to look away from all of it, to be made to feel uncomfortable but still root for james and sirius to be together at the end.

people always say: write the story you want to read. on fire, but we can't feel a thing is that story for me. it contains elements of all my favourite books growing up, the exact characterisations of james and sirius that i hold most dear, and honestly i'm still surprised that my brain was able to come up with something like it. i don't know that it ever will again, tbh :')

hey I was wondering if you've seen House of the Dragon and what you thought of it? Lots of people were pretty pissed about certain things in episode 2, so I wondered what you thought (I haven't seen the show yet but I've seen spoilers)

I have! A few things, with spoilers under the cut:

I still hate the Targs. I don't think anything will change that. But I do think they're setting up complex, grounded characters, which is a classic draw of ASOIAF/early GOT.

The first episode felt more dense with set-up, the second felt more like an actual story.

I'm disappointed in the theme song 😭! I was expecting something new or a Targ-themed infusion. But it's not the worst thing.

The production value is good! CGI is slightly painful (like pls sirs I am begging you to build miniatures of KL) but overall not horrible? The wigs are sooo much worse. I just want them to all pull an Anya Taylor Joy and go bottle blonde because... Rhaenyra? Laena? ... RHAENYS?! Sweeties I'm so sorry. But the set builds are so pretty, and I'm loving some of the costume design. Dragonstone almost had me in tears, I'm not joking.

The time jumps between episodes are slightly wonky at first but easy to get used to.

Despite some truly distasteful elements of the first 2 episodes, it is said that all you need is three good scenes to make a good movie (episode in this case), and I think they're accomplishing that so far.

On to spoilers:

I think everyone knows I'm not the biggest Targ fan. They're incestuous, pedophilic, colonizing, manifest destiny blood supremacists. And though the show is clearly setting them up for a downfall, the writing is still biased toward Targ characters so far (especially Rhaenyra and Daemon) to please their fandom after what happened to Dany. So that's been hard to take.

Fwiw all the nasty parts are included to make a certain point, but there are more important and more interesting things they could focus on.

For example, you could tell they wanted to show off their production value with the tourney, but I just don't think a sporting event (especially between characters we don't know and with vague stakes) has the same tension as someone dying in childbirth. So that part didn't work for me.

The child bride plot also got lots of airtime that could have gone to, say, developing Alicent. So far a lot of the writing efforts have gone toward making Rhaenyra a bAdAsS dragon princess while leaving all the other women to be objectified, commodified pawns, or have fake girl power dialogue about the patriarchy like on a Shonda show. And I despise that they're setting up Dae////nyra when they could have been the best relationship of the show as just a deranged uncle protecting his headstrong dragonrider niece. So, hoping for improvement in that realm.

That said, Rhaenyra is, to my surprise, my highlight so far. I loved her angry tears at the funeral, her and Alicent mourning their mothers at the sept, and her threatening but peaceful intervention at Dragonstone. Very strong performances and good dialogue. And I have high hopes for Alicent in the coming episodes.

YES EXACTLY YOU GET ME. Like, again, Jany deserves her whacks (I think she's not as good as fitting for example - the cut on a lot of young Rhaenyra's dresses are soooo funky and you don't really get dresses like that where they're so badly and awkwardly cut in got, except for Dany's weird ass Qartheen outfits) but she does a good job having Rhaenyra, even Alicent & Rhaenys wear clothes that clearly evoke House Targaryen/dragons while not being the exact same fit whereas Dany's really blend in together-

That last one and her first "serious" outfit/the one she's killed in are amazing imo. They have her colors, they're easy to move around in, easy to run in, but still clearly dresses, still dressing As A Woman (contrast to Asha, Arya, etc who are more explicitly wearing Men's Clothes). But the silhouette is exactly the same as the other outfits so they don't stand out the way they should!! also the two in the middle (esp that third one) are uglyyyyyyyyyy.

These are three different dresses that are just a variation on the same ugly dress with, once again, the exact same shoulder fit as all her other Serious Business Dresses. CONTRAST WITH RHAENYRA-

All of these are black dresses with a design meant to evoke dragons. They also look very different from each other!!! They say something about her character!!! They're pretty, they're flattering, they're imposing, they're feminine, they're powerful!

Like, THIS is how some of the more typically "masculine" characters are described in the books-

ROOSE: From his shoulders streamed a pink woolen cloak embroidered with droplets of blood. Long streamers of red silk fluttered from the top of his closed helm.

TYWIN: His greatcloak was sewn from countless layers of cloth-of-gold, so heavy that it barely stirred even when he charged, so large that its drape covered most of his stallion’s hindquarters when he took the saddle. No ordinary clasp would suffice for such a weight, so the greatcloak was held in place by a matched pair of miniature lionesses crouching on his shoulders, as if poised to spring. Their mate, a male with a magnificent mane, reclined atop Lord Tywin’s greathelm, one paw raking the air as he roared. All three lions were wrought in gold, with ruby eyes. His armor was heavy steel plate, enameled in a dark crimson, greaves and gauntlets inlaid with ornate gold scrollwork. His rondels were golden sunbursts, all his fastenings were gilded, and the red steel was burnished to such a high sheen that it shone like fire in the light of the rising sun.

TYTOS: His bright yellow armor was inlaid with jet in elaborate vine-and-leaf patterns, and a cloak sewn from raven feathers draped his thin shoulders.

THEON: He chose boots of supple grey leather, soft lambswool breeches of silvery-grey, a black velvet doublet with the golden kraken of the Greyjoys embroidered on the breast. Around his throat he fastened a slender gold chain.

SALLADOR: Today he wore flashing cloth-of-silver, with dagged sleeves so long the ends of them pooled on the floor. His buttons were carved jade monkeys, and atop his wispy white curls perched a jaunty green cap decorated with a fan of peacock feathers.

I know Theon gets dragged for his fit later on, but that style - silver, comfortable, but clearly stylish breeches, a golden kraken embroidered, a slender gold chain, that would kill in the North! The Tywin one in particular is crazy because Michele talks at length about how Cersei's black clothes and lack of ornamentation later is meant to emulate her father and that's fine I think Cersei changing from a more feminine presentation to a more masculine one when she no longer has to hide behind a man to use any of her power is an interesting sartorial choice but Tywin used color and ornate lion jewelry!! No reason, as you say, to only have Loras, who is flattened into a joke, token gay character (would Loras debate whether something is a broach or a pin? yes. but why is he the only one having that debate as if its not the sort of nitpicky nonsense someone like Tyrion might fuss over!!) and Joffrey who is peacocking constantly and we're supposed to laugh at him. FRUSTRATING!!

the real answer is that michele clapton is a hack and fraud who hates me, personally.

but there's probably a few reasons. i think irl, people associate black, leather, and wide shoulders with power, intimidation, more serious energy so to visually signal that sansa, cersei, dany, etc are now Power Players they have to put them in those costumes. michele clapton especially really loved using black leather and chains to signify Someone Is Being Serious - she has that interview where she talked specifically about Cersei and Dany wanting to be taken seriously by shying away from colors, using "chains of intent", and emulating the men who had the greatest affect on them ie Tywin and Viserys. You can really see when you look at Michele's interviews that she's bringing her own view of things into the costumes, which, yeah that's how it works (there's like a joke that Bear McCreary, for example, uses his partner as a singer in all of his soundtracks purely because he just wants to hear her sing lol) but I do think you really see the limits of her creativity there too. She has this idea that extravagance = unseriousness which is incredibly at odds with the way George has built up his world - I mean, Aegon IV was out here wearing like a 9 pound crown, and Daeron II wore it as well specifically to show how serious he is about being King. Roose wears all pink! The Tyrells are always awash in color, hell the Lannisters are always awash in color. The only person it makes sense to shy away from color is Dany - I imagine it was just easier for Viserys to find black leather to wear and buy that still showed his house colors than something red so that's why he leaned on it, and it would make sense that Dany is trying to emulate the only other Targaryen she knew by dressing the way he did when she feels like she's finally stepping into her role as The True Queen of Westeros. For Cersei, Sansa, even Arya, I think it's deeply silly that she took that similar approach.

Like, I do think some of her choices were okay - I love that she usually has Dany wearing trousers of some sort underneath her dresses because she felt like she always needed to prepare to run away, for example. I love Cersei's coronation dress, if not the ugly crown. I liked her dedication to making sure the Sons of the Harpy masks looked handmade and not factory produced. I love that Arya outfit in the last season, and I liked the attention to detail there when it comes to the coat looking slashed by Arya herself to make it fit her in the way she wants it to. I think where Michele consistently fails is a) the idea that the North is somehow less interested in fashion when the reality is that the North simply has different taste in fashion because they have a vastly different climate than most of the other kingdoms (similar to Dorne) and b) she tends to conflate feminimity and androgyny with weakness or silliness and masculinity with strength. It's not to say that you shouldn't think about the ways in which We As A Culture define power when designing a costume but just uncritically regurgitating "man = strong, woman = weak" sartorial work is lazy beyond belief. Jany Temime is leagues better, like even with some of my criticism of her work, I think she just has a much deeper understanding of color work, silhouette, and the way character informs style.
