g-d reading the secret diary of laura palmer was such a trip. i related so much. like even donna reminded me specifically of this exfriend of mine. they were basically the same person. also donna and laura's relationship reminded me of me and hers so much.

i think all the chris discourse is super interesting and i think everyone has valid points! i want to say a few things but i’m not trying to refute/be antagonistic/say i don’t like him so i just hope it’s not received that way -
i really felt what that other anon was saying about dr. berger’s nova vs. chris moment feeling really sad and inappropriate given that nova is a vulnerable rescue that absolutely does not get the same level of attention and love that chris does, or jameson or allyn in her rescue group. people are human! even therapists have favorites! but nat and jake and dr. berger and their whole crew have been so very on top of things with so many other difficult rescues, and it started to feel a little bit like the problem wasn’t them, or even nova’s trauma response, the problem is that nova isn’t the /right/ kind of person to be treated with that same level of attention and care and understanding. which makes me sad bc i love her a lot.
i also think the way that your audience relates to chris plays a big part in that, and i’m not criticizing that at all cuz obviously people should relate to characters however they want, but as a person that felt pretty protective of nova specifically, there’s a pretty big difference between how she’s treated and the male rescues are. chris is referred to by followers as yknow sweet sunshine boy, jameson, even after stabbing jake, is still treated with love and understanding and sympathy. i am curious whether it’s nova’s low-empathy, or the fact that she assaults chris, or even that she’s a female character and generally speaking your audience seems more male-whump oriented. none of this is meant as an attack or even as criticism!! i’m just curious about people’s thoughts.
last thing (and sorry this has turned into a NOVEL) but i also wanted to ask for people’s thoughts on calling chris a baby/sweet sunshine boy well into his twenties, because to me that reads sometimes as infantilization that is rooted in his autism. i am not autistic, and i don’t mean to do the “i have autistic friends!!!” thing but the autistic people i do know very much resist that language. to me it has less to do with support needs and more to do with language/behavior but idk i guess i’m just curious if that’s a personality thing?? idk
Also: this is incredibly long anon from like 30 seconds ago i forgot to say thank you :) for indulging questions and also for sharing your writing!
I think it's mix of Nova not 'endearing' herself early on but having one of her first big drabbles involve her testing Chris and also very much Chris being very popular. I do think there is something to the idea of a female recovering whumpee getting maybe a little more scrutiny from a critical perspective?
Nova is also definitely not seeking out Jake and Nat and everyone else the way Chris does. She doesn't want them to be her surrogate family. But she and Sarita are close, and she does like Antoni and Chris. But she is a little less embracing of authority.
