Not So Grumpy
Requested Here!
Edit: Read Part 2 Here >
Pairing: Tim Bradford x fem!wife!pregnant!reader
Summary: Tim is grumpier than usual, and when you decide to visit him at the station, the rookies get an idea of why.
Warnings: pregnant reader. fluff!
Word Count: 1.8k+ words
A/N: Softie Tim? Softie (and clingy) Tim. This takes place sometime during seasons 1-2.
“Don’t start,” Tim says, sitting beside Angela.
“Whoa, okay,” she replies with a laugh. “Glad to see you’re in such a good mood.”
“That sounds like starting.”
Angela puts her hands up, smiling as she turns away from Tim. “Chen, good luck.”
Tim rolls his eyes, wishing his mornings could go differently. It’s been several weeks of his persistent bad mood, and everyone who has to deal with him is curious about what’s causing it.
“Bradford, can I- could I maybe get you something?” Lucy offers softly.
“No.”
✯✯✯✯✯
You wake up curled against Tim’s side, his arm extended over your waist. His alarm is going off, and he’s smacking the nightstand beside him in a poor attempt to turn it off.
“You have to go to work,” you remind him, kissing his cheek as you move farther up in the bed.
“I’m good,” he replies, sighing as he finds his phone and turns the sound off. “Right here.”
He rolls closer to you, his hand sweeping over your stomach as he looks into your eyes. Tim can be persuasive, but you’ve gotten used to this routine over the last few weeks.
“I’d love for you to stay, I really would, but I don’t think your boss would appreciate it,” you say.
Tim groans, pressing his face against your neck as his arm tightens around you.
“You got clingy,” you tease, running your fingers through his hair and gently scratching his scalp.
“And you won’t let me stay,” Tim mumbles.
“It’s not my fault you wanted to be a cop.”
“You would-“ Tim pauses, sitting up so you can hear him. “You would deprive me of staying at your side during a time like this?”
Chuckling at his dramatics, you push your hand against Tim’s shoulder in a pointless attempt to move him away from you.
“Tim, baby, you see me all the time.”
“Not enough. I’m going to come home one day, and there will be a toddler running around, but I won’t remember any of this.”
You close your eyes and lean back against your pillow. “You have to go to work today so you can come to the doctor with me on Friday, right? Just think about that.”
“I can’t. I can only think of you.”
“You start a family and suddenly you’re the most romantic, clingy guy in the world. Where’d the grump go?”
Tim doesn’t reply as he tries to pull you closer. Rolling away from him, you leave him no choice but to get up and go to work. His disappointed sigh makes you frown; you know he’s being dramatic to cover up how he feels.
“Tim,” you call, sitting up as he walks to you. “I’m sorry. I love you, and I really do want you here as much as possible.”
“I know. It’s just harder than I thought it would be.”
You nod, tilting your chin up in a silent request for a kiss. Tim smiles, shaking his head as he bends to meet you. You pull back before he risks getting distracted.
“The grump is back now,” Tim mumbles.
“Hey! Be nice today,” you call after him.
Tim doesn’t reply, and you know he’ll deny ever hearing you say such a thing.
✯✯✯✯✯
Tim slams the door as he exits the shop. Standing with his hands on his hips, he looks at the flat tire before glancing at Lucy.
“I didn’t see it,” she begins, her voice rushed and apologetic.
“Because you weren’t paying attention,” Tim snaps.
“But I-“
“How do you expect to graduate to short sleeves if you can’t even drive, boot?”
“It wasn’t my fault; there was something in the road!”
“Call dispatch,” Tim demands.
“What’s the protocol for this?”
Tim remains silent, leaning against the side of the shop as Lucy racks her brain for the proper procedure. As she radios dispatch and explains the situation, Tim grows grumpier. He’s stranded in a subdivision of Los Angeles with a flat tire that could have been avoided instead of home with you. His conviction about being a cop wanes each moment he’s away from you.
✯✯✯✯✯
Even without seeing the worst of it, you can tell Tim’s attitude has changed lately. His fellow officers and the rookies have been dealing with the grumpiest version of Tim they’ve ever experienced, but you see the clingy, emotional, loving side of whatever is making him act so differently.
After doing a few small chores, which Tim will tell you not to do again, you get ready and decide to pay him a visit at the station. You want to see how he is doing.. mostly, you miss him and want an excuse to see him and hug him.
As you get in your car, you consider calling Tim to ensure he’s at the station and has time for a visitor. He has been protective of you since you met, but it has changed and increased since getting married and throughout the early months of your pregnancy. You shrug, putting your phone away after electing to surprise him instead.
✯✯✯✯✯
“It would be great if one of you could remember that you’re a police officer!” Tim yells, looking between Nolan, Lucy, and Jackson. “Now you’ve got nothing to say? No excuses? Well maybe you should review those rook books before going out on patrol again.”
He turns quickly, prepared to storm away and find a private place to calm down. When he freezes, the rookies look at one another in confusion. Nolan prepares to speak, and Lucy shakes her head to stop him, unwilling to get yelled at again so soon.
“What are you doing here?” Tim asks.
You step into the bullpen with a smile as Tim rushes to your side.
“Missed you,” you whisper.
“Is that- is she-“ Nolan stutters.
“Pregnant? Yeah. And Tim is… smiling?” Jackson adds.
Lucy gasps, moving in front of Nolan to see better. It’s true: Tim is standing as close as he can, with one hand laid protectively over your stomach while he smiles down at you. His grumpiness, which has made being a rookie nearly unbearable recently, is completely gone, vanished at the sight of you.
“You shouldn’t be up walking around,” Tim frets.
“Then I probably shouldn’t tell you I cleaned the kitchen, huh?” you reply.
Tim shakes his head, his thumb brushing over the swell of your baby bump as he leans forward to kiss your forehead.
“Are you feeling okay?” Tim asks softly.
You smile, moving your chin to gesture to your left. Tim’s brows pinch as he turns, glaring at the rookies until they look away, turning to one another in a fake conversation.
“I’m not going to survive this afternoon,” Tim tells you.
“You’ve been grumpy and mean,” you accuse.
“Look, they’re going to annoy me all afternoon. Stay with me? You can do a ride along. Oh! Or you could go into labor so I can stay home with you for a few days.”
“As great as that sounds, I’m going to pass. I’d like to have a healthy baby when the time is right, not on your schedule, grumpy.”
Tim frowns, his hands on either side of your bump.
“But, I promise to be waiting for you the moment you get home,” you add. “And, maybe, if you just tell them the truth, it won’t be so bad.”
“You’ve never dealt with a boot. Or Angela Lopez.”
“Just because you won’t introduce me.”
“For good reason.”
You smile, raising your chin again before Tim kisses you quickly.
“Be careful going home. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
Tim watches you leave, waiting until you’re out of sight to turn back toward the rookies. He jerks back slightly when he sees Lucy standing right beside him.
“She’s so cute! You’re so cute together! Why haven’t you mentioned her, Tim?” Lucy gushes. “And where do you hide that guy that was with her? I’ve never met that Tim.”
“And you won’t,” he promises.
“I think he leaves that side of Tim with her,” Nolan adds.
Tim’s jaw clenches. It’s true, he knows, but he doesn’t want details of his personal life to become an accepted topic for the rookies. He raises his hand, and they silence.
“Just- leave it alone for now, and I will introduce you the next time she visits,” he offers.
As he says it, he makes a mental note to ask you not to visit without warning so he doesn’t have to follow through. The lie is the only way to have peace while in the vicinity of the rookies.
“I can’t believe you’re going to be a dad,” Jackson muses.
“You’re having a kid?” Angela yells, running down the stairs and grabbing Tim’s arm.
Tim grumbles something unintelligible under his breath before saying, “Yes.”
“Boy or girl?”
“Don’t know yet.”
“If it’s a girl, Angela is a great name.”
“Oh, trust me, I’ve got a long list of names that are an absolute no-go,” Tim replies, looking between the rookies and Angela.
“How did you figure this out?” Angela asks Lucy.
“She – who is she?” Lucy begins before realizing that she never heard who you are to Tim.
“My wife,” Tim mutters.
“You’re married?!” Angela and Nolan ask together.
Angela slaps Tim's shoulder, frowning when he looks at her with his eyebrows raised.
“I thought we were friends.”
“What gave you that impression?”
Angela gasps, covering her heart with her hand.
“Uh, Tim?” you ask, standing behind him.
He turns toward you quickly, and Angela’s eyes widen as she looks at you.
“Yeah?” he asks kindly, yet another surprise.
“Can you come with me for a second?” You notice the small crowd behind him, officers who seem more interested in you than anything else. “Hi,” you say, waving at them.
“It is so nice to meet you,” Angela begins, stepping toward you before Tim blocks her way with his arm.
“We’ll do introductions later,” Tim says, putting his arm around you and leading you away.
“I’m holding you to that!” Lucy yells.
Tim leads you into an empty interview room, his eyes searching yours. You take his hand, laying it on your stomach. Something happened when you heard his voice earlier, and you want to share it.
“Say something,” you request. “Anything.”
“I love you,” Tim answers.
His eyes widen as he feels the movement of a kick against his hand. He squats before you, moving his hand under your shirt.
“You know who I am, don’t you?” he asks.
You feel another kick, laughing at how your baby already has Tim wrapped around its finger.
“You promised to make introductions,” you say, interrupting Tim’s conversation with your stomach.
Tim stands, cupping your face in his hands and kissing you. Breathless, you push against his chest as you break away.
“You were right,” you admit. “It would be nice to have you home more.”
“We did it,” Tim whispers, his eyes dropping to your bump.
“I feel like I’m interrupting something,” you mumble.
Tim chuckles, rubbing your back as he leads you to the door.
“Introductions, and then we’re going home,” Tim explains. “Names and nothing more.”
“I would expect no less, Officer Bradford.”

Can you please write something for Tim Bradford where the reader is his rookie? Kind of like a grumpy /sunshine fic?? I just started watching the rookie and I'm literally in love with him😩
reckless smiles
warnings: probably swearing, mentions of DV & guns, other police stuff, nepotism (oops)
a/n: got you anon! hope this works! 🙈🙈 as always, asks are SO open! i’m working on a part two to the other TR fic i posted (per request) and if anyone likes this one there’s another small fic in this little mini series already written that i could post! it’s the call with barnaby <3 anyways, ENJOY!!
Sergeant Grey stands at the front of the briefing room. You’re sitting in the front row (like all rookies do), just happy to be here, beside fellow trainees Nolan, West, and Chen. “Rookies!” booms the sergeant, “today, we’re going to switch things up. Nolan you’re with Lopez, Chen with Bishop, West with me,” your face falls, smile collapsing completely, morphing into something else as you realize who's left to pair up with. Who you’ll be riding with today.
Tim Bradford.
Nolan leans over from his chair. He rests his hand on your shoulder while standing up and moving past you. But first, “You’ll be okay,” he assures—Chen, Bradford’s usual victim, doesn’t say a thing. Instead she shoots you a squashed smile and mouths “good luck,” you know you’ll need it but… but you’ll make the best out of it. Like always.
You steel your expression, trying to wipe away the upset that slipped onto your face momentarily. Despite Tim Bradford being the biggest asshole in the LAPD he’s your superior and you were raised to respect rank… even if you don’t respect the person.
“L/n, you’re with Bradford. Try not to kill each other. You’re good cops, we need you both.”
“She’s a boot. Hardly a cop,” Tim Bradford, asshole extraordinaire, chimes in.
“This batch of rookies is a good one and you know that. L/n is a legacy, top scores in the academy and a record number of arrests for her first year on the force. That’s not easily dismissable.”
Officers began to trickle out of the room, Lopez and Bishop were the first to leave, and then your friends—their rookies, Nolan and Chen, with.
“Feeding me to the wolves, West?” Jackson grins back at you, shrugs, and the door shuts behind him. Even Grey leaves, not wanting to be a part of this. The entire briefing room is empty save from you, Tim Bradford, and Smitty. Smitty, who has his hand inside a miniature bag of popcorn and his feet crossed at the ankles and stacked on top of the desk in front of him. He smacks loudly and Tim shoots him a withering glare. “Fine, fine,” he says, palms raised, “I’ll go. Just uh… tell me how it–”
“Smitty!”
He leaves the briefing room and then you’re left alone.
“Boot,”
“Sir,” you echo.
“I know you’re used to special treatment but that’s not how I work. I’ll be driving,” sure you (with your history) love to be behind the wheel but that’s not a problem, Tim doesn’t let Lucy drive either, it isn’t bias, just how he does things. “You do what I say when I saynone of that reckless idiotic behaviour I hear about from Harper. Just because she has unorthodox methods does not mean you should be copying them. You’re a rookie. Today, my rookie.”
“I don’t expect special treatment. And yes sir.”
Tim crosses his arms across his chest and tilts his head ever so slightly. He can’t figure you out–it frustrates him that he wants to. You’re always smiling and even now, looking at him with as close to a frown as he’s ever seen on your face, there’s something in your eyes. Not happiness but challenge, maybe? Determination. A sparkle that can’t be dimmed. Not with his shouting, not with his Tim-Tests. He almost takes it as a challenge. He almost tries to break you, to interrupt that inability to back down–the one he knows will get you killed.
The next week is awful but every day you show up to work with a smile (sometimes faux–but fake it until you make it and all that) and the drive to do better, to impress him.
You can’t.
At a DV call, the assaulted woman is terrified. Tim, he would leave that detail out, instead focusing on your shortcomings (how he had threatened to give you a blue page, how you sat there and took it: “I’d understand, is all I’m saying. If you need to put that blue page in my file, go ahead. And I know my lack of regret is not making this better for myself but… I’d do it again,”) that when the victim pulled a gun and pointed it at your head, after you arrested her husband, you decided to take away Tim’s shot. She was frantic and angry, losing her absolute mind, but moreover she was scared and when she pointed the gun at you–safety off, finger pulsing over the trigger because all of her was shaking. Tim had her in his crosshairs. You saw this and moved. You moved, knowing she would follow, and putting yourself at risk while making sure she couldn’t be killed. In your eyes, she was still the victim. She did fire her weapon. Into the ceiling, after you knocked the gun away.
Two similar incidents follow. Ones where you put yourself in needless danger.
You’re reckless. Impulsive. He’s seen you speed off duty, seen you sweet-talk the would-be arresting officer, give him your number and drive away scott free. All because of your smile, because of the twinkle in your eyes. The brightness, the innocent glow. Tim has seen you out at the club, drinking your bodyweight in booze, dancing and singing karaoke, and even a Clip Tok video of you soaking wet after diving into a partially frozen lake to rescue a dog. The public went wild over that one–Aaron Thorsen was in frame too, boosting the videos popularity. Tim could recognize the sentiment. It was great how determined you were, how kind you were, and the soft spot you had for animals and people alike but he was there and had hated every second of that terrifying call.
Tim corrects you, you smile and take it, switching your coffee into your other hand, handing the one you bought him over.
Tim shouts at you, that’s fine, you smile and take it.
That’s what you do, what you’ve always done: smile and endure.
“It’s downpouring, good thing our shift is almost over.”
“I’ve always liked the rain. It’s nice,”
“What part of getting rained on is nice, Boot? It’s basically the sky crying.”
“We need rain. If it’s good for plants it can’t be bad for us.”
“I find that logic flawed.”
“You find a lot of logic flawed, sir.”
“What was that?”
You tell him nothing, that you didn’t mean it, and your shift is over. Heading back to the station to grab your things you make your way into the locker room. Lucy’s there, pulling on her jacket and taking out her umbrella. “How do you do it, Luce?” you ask.
“Do what?”
“Deal with Tim. He hates me. I try so hard and he just hates me,”
“I don’t think…”
“He does. You know he does. He hates me because of my last name, because he doesn’t think I’m a good cop. Because I smile. I don’t know what to do. No one’s ever hated me for smiling before…”
“I’m sorry,” she says. “Just hang in there. We’ve only got a few months left before we’re P2s then Grey’ll let you ride with someone else, I’m sure. Maybe with me–how about it?”
You nod, and give Lucy a small smile. She sees through it, how tired you look, how defeated. She rests her hand on your shoulder. “I’ve got to get going. Jackson’s waiting for me–I said I’d cook tonight.”
“See ya, Luce. Have a goodnight and say ‘hi’ to West for me.”
“Of course.”
Lucy slings her bag over her shoulder and leaves the locker room. The door swings open a second time and in walks Tim. He’s silent as he walks over to you. As he mirrors your movements across the small room, grabbing his own things from the cubby space.
Hehearditallhehearditallhehearditall.
You paste a smile on, almost wincing as you slip past him and– “Boo–Y/n.”
Your back faces him and all of you wants to keep it that way. My shift is over–I don’t have to endure, you think, but then you hear your father’s voice. Hear his lessons on respect, on how things should work in the department, how to interact with coworkers, superiors–even the awful ones. You turn to him, you look up, meet his icy blue eyes and repress a shiver. You forget to smile. Your slips stay pressed into a small line as you look at him, realizing that you are too close. You’re too close and you should back up but you can’t. Your breathing heavily, you realize Tim is too. He’s looking down at you with melting eyes. The frost, the coldness, seem to fade away as his hand flys to the back of your neck.
Your tongue darts out, wets your lips, and then his press to yours. Your eyes flutter shut, your body reacting to his touch while your mind hasn’t caught up. TimBradfordiskissingme. MyTOiskissingme. Those thoughts are the only ones that make it through the fog. The questions are satiated by how he’s making you feel. His lips are warm and soft, like his breath, when he pulls away for a moment, eyes boring into your own. “Is this–”
“Yes,” you say. It’s okay. It’ssookay. Betterthanokay. You nod a few times for clarification and one of his large hands lands on the small of your back, pressing you to him, the other moves beside your head as he pushes you against the wall, caging you in.
You’ve never been more okay with being trapped. By him, by his mouth.
His kisses were talking and when they stopped, he was ready to.
Staring down at you with a fast beating heart (no match for the rate your own was thumping in your chest at) he smiled back, for once. It was infectious. A grin split your face and you felt blissful, for a moment. Like you and Tim were the only two in the world, like nothing else mattered, like you were floating in a bubble, transcending your problems and surroundings.
It was a nice bubble, “I don’t hate you.”
Until he popped it. Until he reminded you of what had just happened, of what led to this and the conversation you had with Lucy–the one he overheard.
“I don’t hate you,” he said.
“I don’t believe you,” you blurt.
He raises a brow. His expression says ‘you don’t believe me? After that?’ and fair enough, because all you believe now is that you’re incredibly confused. Incredibly, very confused.
“You yell at me, you constantly talk about how I’m not ready to be a cop, you regularly threaten to give me blue pages and criticize what I do in my freetime–”
“None of that means I hate you.”
“It doesn’t make it seem like you like me! You get mad at me for smiling!”
“I don’t… okay, I get annoyed sometimes but it’s situational. When I’m reaming you out, you shouldn’t be smiling.”
“It’s that or cry! I don’t like being yelled at.”
“I don’t like when you put yourself at risk constantly. That’s why I yell, that’ why I reprimand you. You’ll make a damn good cop but no one wants you to make yourself a fucking martyr. No one wants you to put everything else–the job, a dog–above your own life! I get mad because I care,” he argues. Then lowly, “too damn much.”
“Bradford…”
“It’s Tim, to you.”
“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to worry anyone. I just…” you trail off, Tim still watching you closely. “I can’t not try to save someone. I became a cop to do good, to help people, not to hurt them, to shoot them, to arrest innocents and victims of circumstance. There’s enough awfulness in the world that I don't want to contribute. I didn’t…”
“Didn’t what?”
“I didn’t want to be a cop but it’s what my family does–I like the job now, but the way I work it, you know?”
“I get it. I do. You just need to be more careful. You weren’t even on the clock on that call,”
You’re not exactly sure which call he’s referencing. You’ve intervened a few too many times when you shouldn’t have been on duty. It’s how you have (as said by Grey) ‘a record number of arrests for your first year on the force’ because you don’t let injustice slide just because you’re not getting paid. That, and because you’re ridiculously nosey.
“What call?”
“With the drug dealer and that stupid dog.”
“Hey,” you scold. “Barnaby is far from stupid.”
“Barnaby?”
“Yeah. He was a stray so I kept and named him. We trauma bonded–no way I was letting him go to a shelter after that.”
“No, no, that makes sense. I’m just wondering how the hell you came up with Barnaby.
You shrug; it’s a good name.
“Bradford!” shouts Grey, “you in there?”
Tim walks towards the door, shouting back and confirming his presence.
“My office! There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“Alright!” Tim turns to you, he mouths his goodbyes and slips from the room leaving you incredibly confused.

To protect and to love
Main masterlist | The Rookie masterlist
Tim Bradford x rookie!reader Fandom: The rookie
Summary: You unintentionally make Tim jealous, resulting with nothing good but a confession.
Action | Angst | Fluff
A/N: It's a long one I know. But I HAD to put some action and angst in it, i couldn't help it. Honestly I love it and I love to write about Tim. I hope you like it as much as I do. Have a wonderful day bubs and take care of yourselves. Lots of love
Warning: Mention of hurting, one "fucking" slipped somewhere in this, not proofread yet.
Requested: Yes Words: 4.4k GIF is not mine, credits to the owner!
The atmosphere in the bar was alive with the buzz of conversation and the clinking of glasses as you settled in with your colleagues. It was one of the many nights you and the rookies met after a long shift. It was some bond between the four of you even since academy and it felt nice. They started to feel like a family to you.
As Nolan approached with three drinks in his hands, the fourth person occupied the chair beside you, making your mouth to open in surprise and your heart to race. Tim, looking so perfectly even out of his uniform, so casually in his clothes, wearing the same grumpy expression.
"Oh, sorry sir, didn't know you'd join us today." Nolan excused himself for ordering only three drinks.
"Yeah, didn't know I'd be here either." Tim murmured under his breath, giving you an acknowledging smile. After weeks of persuasions from both you and Lucy, he finally gave up.
"I'm glad you came." you told him as you turned to give him a smile. He did the same, but it wasn't a natural one.
"Yeah, well, don't get used to it. This isn't really my scene." Tim admitted sharply, the wave of adrenaline and excitement that flowed over you, broke as soon as his grumpy expression appeared.
"So, Tim, what do you usually do after work?" Lucy asked, flashing him a mischievous grin.
Tim shrugged, taking a sip of his drink. "Usually just head home and catch up on some game I missed or hit the gym. Not really into the whole social scene."
"Come on, Tim, live a little!" Lucy chimed in, nudging him playfully. "You gotta let loose every once in a while."
You couldn't help but smile at the banter between your colleagues, grateful for the opportunity to spend time with them outside of the confines of work. But as you glanced over at Tim, you noticed a hint of tension in his behaviour, his jaw clenched slightly as he watched the scene unfold.
"So, Y/N, how's life as Tim's rookie treating you?" Nolan asked, turning to you with a grin.
You chuckled, shaking your head. "It's definitely been an adventure. Tim keeps me on my toes, that's for sure."
Despite being his rookie for some time now, you had never spent much time with Tim outside of work. But tonight was different, and you were determined to make the most of it.
Tim's gaze flickered to you, "If it's not a living hell, it means you have potential to become a good cop." you squinted at his words only for a few seconds before a sense of pride to wash over you as you smiled at him "But you're not there yet, so keep your head in the game."
Before the conversation could continue, you excused yourself to go buy another round of drinks. As you made your way to the bar, you felt the weight of several lingering gazes on your back, casting a subtle aura of discomfort. Some eyes stopped over your body as you asked the bartender for a refill, giving them one of the best views. Tim's eyes followed each glance, noting the subtle gestures and expressions of the onlookers. And he counted them one by one.
The handsome bartender took his time to do the refill, as his eyes examined you, flashing you a charming smile.
"Hey there, beautiful." his voice was low and seductive if you think about it, but it wasn't close enough to the one you actually found yourself drawn to. "What brings you here tonight?"
As Tim was left alone at the table with the rookies, he found it almost impossible to focus on their conversation, as his gaze kept drifting back to where you stood at the bar, engrossed in conversation with the bartender.
"Oh, just blowing off some steam after a long day at work." you responded politely and considered giving him a chance.
At this point, you couldn't shut people off for some feelings that are in vain anyway. You need to go back in the game if you didn't wanted to be a single 45 year old cop, redecorating your house on your own between shifts like Nolan. That wasn't nice, you scolded yourself for the thoughts.
"Sounds like you could use a drink then. Let me guess, you're a cop, right? You've got that look about you." the bartender asked with a grin as he wiped down the counter with a cloth.
Tim's jaw clenched with frustration, a surge of jealousy coursing through him as he observed the subtle flirtation unfolding before his eyes. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at him, a sense of possessiveness clawing at his chest as he struggled to contain his emotions.
"Tim, is everything okay?" Lucy's voice broke through his reverie, her concerned expression drawing his attention.
Tim forced a tight-lipped smile, his features taut with tension as he tried to mask his inner turmoil. "Yeah, I'm fine," he replied curtly, though his tone betrayed his true feelings.
You chuckled at the bartender assumption, shaking your head "No, no. Nothing like that. I work for the city, but I surely don't have what it takes to be a cop." you admitted, drinks in your hand, lingering a little bit more.
"Ah, close enough though." he leaned over the counter, taking his chance to have a closer look at you. "Mark" he introduced himself with a friendly smile.
"Y/N" you responded politely, as you played his game, leaning in his direction.
"So, what do you say we grab a drink together sometime, Y/N ? I know a great place just around the corner." he proposed, his eyes sparkling with genuine interest.
Mark's easy charm and attentive conversation had left a positive impression on you, and you found yourself looking forward to meeting him.
But Lucy wasn't convinced by Tim's response, her brow furrowing with concern as she regarded him intently. "Are you sure? You seem a little...off," she persisted, her voice laced with concern.
Tim hesitated, torn between his desire to confide in Lucy and his instinct to keep his emotions guarded. "It's nothing, just...work stuff," he deflected, his tone clipped as he avoided her gaze.
Lucy nodded in understanding, didn't want to cross any boundaries, so she just let the subject drop. Anyone could see from afar that Tim was uncomfortable, little did anyone know he was feeling like that because you're not around.
Not even Tim knew why he couldn't take his eyes off of you or why he felt like his heart tightened with every laugh travelling to the table.
"Yeah, we could do that." you replied to Mark, considering his offer before hearing the unmistakable beat of footsteps you can't possibly erase from your mind.
Unable to stand by and watch any longer, Tim made his way over to you, determination etched on his face. "Hey, everything okay here?"
You glanced up, surprised to see Tim standing before you. "Oh, uh, yeah, everything's fine. Just getting the drinks."
The handsome bartender eyed Tim warily, sensing the tension in the air. "Is this your boyfriend?"
Tim's jaw clenched at the question, his gaze narrowing as he locked eyes with the stranger. "Something like that."
"Uh, Mark, this is Tim, my trainer from the job." you clarified, trying to make as bearable as possible the atmosphere shift.
Mark nodded in understanding, though a flicker of confusion crossed his features at Tim's abrupt attitude and he regarded your TO with a polite smile, extending a hand in greeting.
"Hey there, I'm Mark. Nice to meet you," he said, his tone friendly despite the underlying tension.
But Tim's response was anything but friendly. With a frustrated growl, he slammed his fist against the counter, the sound echoing through the bar. "Excuse me," he muttered tersely before turning on his heel and storming out of the bar.
His fists were clenched with frustration and your heart sank with a mixture of confusion and disappointment. You watched him go, your mind reeling with unanswered questions and a deep sense of hurt.
Confusion clouded your thoughts as you tried to make sense of Tim's sudden outburst. Had you done something wrong? Was he angry with you? The uncertainty gnawed at you.
But beneath the confusion, a flicker of disappointment burned within you. You had hoped that tonight would be a chance for you and Tim to bond outside of work, to bridge the gap between you. But his sudden departure had shattered those hopes.
Tim's mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Jealousy burned hot within him, a primal instinct that had ignited the moment he saw another man hitting on you.
But beneath the jealousy, a deeper sense of frustration simmered. Frustration at himself for allowing his feelings for you to cloud his judgment, for letting his jealousy get the better of him. He knew he had no right to stake a claim on you, no right to feel possessive or territorial. But try as he might, he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gripped him whenever he saw you with another man.
As he made his way through the crowded streets, Tim's thoughts were consumed by visions of you and the handsome bartender, laughing and flirting as if he didn't exist. The image burned like a brand on his mind, fueling his anger and driving him further into the depths of despair.
Monday morning is usually a pain in the ass, but with the events that occurred last Friday at the bar, and Tim's attitude towards you, harsher and grumpier than usual, it was a morning out of the burning hell. Your heart was racing as he instructed you, curt and on point, on what will happen next.
May have been a few days since the incident at the bar, but the memory lingered in the back of your mind like a stubborn shadow. Despite your best efforts to push it aside, the tension between you and Tim was palpable, a silent undercurrent that simmered beneath the surface.
You knew that he was testing you, pushing you to your limits in an attempt to prepare you for the cop life, but beneath his tough exterior, you couldn't help but sense a hint of something else—something that felt uncomfortably like jealousy.
The morning sunlight bathed the patrol car's interior as you and Tim cruised through the LA streets, the radio's steady hum punctuating the silence between you.
Your usual chitchat about the rookie book is now replaced by a brooding silence, his knuckles white as they gripped the steering wheel. You stole a glance at him, noting the furrowed brow and the distant look in his eyes, and couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the gulf that seemed to have grown between you.
The radio crackled to life, dispatch's voice cutting through the quiet."7-Adam-19, we have a noise complaint at 123 Oak Street. Caller reports a disturbance in one of the apartments. Please respond."
Tim glanced at you, and you tried to read something in his eyes as he keyed the mic. "Copy that. We're en route."
There was nothing to be seen in his eyes, but you took your time to admire him in silence, your mind playing all the memories since you became his rookie, couldn't stop the thought that maybe the flicker that burned inside every time you touched his arm by mistake, every time he smiled at you, every time he made you smile, was indeed something. You always tend to question your feelings, rather they're justified or in vain, and this one was surely in vain.
There's no way a man like him, so put together, so ambitious — so handsome— would have even the thought of liking a rookie, you thought. You considered this whole situation too stupid, probably every single woman that comes past Tim fall in love with him.
As you pulled up to the apartment complex, the sounds of raised voices and slamming doors greeted you, sending a shiver down your spine.
"This could get messy," you muttered, your voice tense with apprehension.
"And we're prepared for this kind of situations. But if you don't feel like it, you can give up the badge." his voice is harsh and his expression is far from nice.
"That's not what I meant." you mouthed under your breath and followed Tim into the building.
As you reached the door of the apartment in question, you exchanged a wary glance with Tim before knocking firmly. The door swung open to reveal a chaotic scene inside, a group of men engaged in a heated argument that showed no signs of abating.
"LAPD! Hands where I can see them!" your voice cut through the chaos like a knife, but if anything, it only seemed to stoke the flames.
In an instant, the situation erupted into chaos, with shouts and curses filling the air as fists flew and bodies collided. You and Tim sprang into action, replaying in your mind everything you learned from the academy and your TO. But just as you thought you had gained the upper hand, the situation took a sudden turn for the worse. A shout rang out from the far end of the room, followed by the sound of shattering glass as a fight broke out between two of them.
With adrenaline coursing through your veins, you and Tim moved swiftly to intervene, but the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Amidst the chaos, you found yourself grappling with one of them, seven feet tall man and muscular construction, your heart pounding in your chest as you fought to maintain control.
Tim knew not to mess up his personal life and his professional one, he did it once and didn't end well. He weighed his decision over and over again, continuously adding pros and cons to the equation. It was safe for you to deal with this kind of men? Probably not, but if he would go soft on you and pick an easy target it would mean he let his feelings step out and fail you as your TO.
All Tim could do in this situation was to have your back no matter what and make sure you get home safe to meet with that stupid bartender. That thought run fast like the wind and bought back your laughter from that night hunting him once more. The lovely eyes you gave that man and the smile so bright, a smile he saw for the first time.
Your focus narrowed on subduing the individual before they could inflict harm. In the heat of the moment, you failed to notice another figure advancing towards you from the side.
Suddenly, a sharp blow struck your side, sending a jolt of pain radiating through your body. Gasping, you stumbled backward, momentarily disoriented as the room spun around you.
"Y/L/N!" Tim's voice cut through the haze of pain, his tone laced with concern as he rushed to your side. "You okay?"
Grimacing, you nodded weakly, trying to push through the pain as adrenaline surged through your veins. But with each breath, the pain in your side seemed to intensify, a constant reminder of the mistake you had made in letting your guard down.
Tim's grip tightened on your arm, his eyes scanning you for signs of injury as he assessed the situation. "Officer down," he said firmly into his radio, his voice tinged with urgency "Send backup and R/A."
Despite the pain coursing through your body, you forced yourself to focus, pushing aside the fear and uncertainty that threatened to overwhelm you. With Tim's support, you managed to regain your footing, the determination in his eyes giving you the strength to move on.
When one of them hurt you, the rest managed to move the circus outside the building, now armed and pointing the guns to their heads. You handcuffed your attacker and Tim dealt with the one stuck under you in the ambush. As you pushed the man down to the car with trembling feet, barely holding steady, you heard sirens cut through the air, signaling the arrival of backup. With a sense of relief washing over you, you spared a quick glance toward the parking lot, where a team of officers rushed between the men, their presence a welcome sight amidst the chaos.
"LAPD! Drop your weapon!" Nolan began, approaching the chaos as their eyes counted the police officers surrounding them. "Hands where I can see them, on the ground, face down!" he demanded as you and Tim put the suspects in the backseat of the car. "Spread your arms and legs!"
As the men followed Nolan's instructions, you tried to join your colleagues and handcuff the suspects, but Tim's hand stopped you in place. "Go sit down. You did enough." he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Despite the urgency of the situation, there was a steely resolve in his eyes as he focused on ensuring your safety above all else. Feeling a surge of frustration welling up inside you, you opened your mouth to protest, but Tim's stern gaze silenced you before you could speak. With a heavy heart, you complied with his orders, a paramedic guiding you to the ambulance for a search.
The sound of Tim's voice rang out through the chaos, his words echoing in your mind as he barked orders to his fellow officers. But amidst the chaos and confusion, it was clear that Tim's focus was solely on the task at hand, his attention unwavering as he worked to bring the situation under control. And as you watched from the sidelines, a sense of hurt and disappointment washed over you, the sting of Tim's words cutting deep as you struggled to make sense of the situation.
With the suspects now securely restrained, Tim turned his attention back to you, his expression tight with frustration as he approached. "What were you thinking, officer Y/L/N?" he demanded, his voice laced with anger as he confronted you.
Caught off guard by his harsh tone, you felt a lump form in your throat as you struggled to find the right words to respond. "I...I didn't see them, sir," you stammered, your voice barely above a whisper as you met Tim's gaze.
But Tim's expression remained unforgiving, his frustration palpable as he glared down at you. "You could have gotten yourself killed out there," he snapped, his words biting as he chastised you for your reckless actions.
As Tim guided you back to the patrol car and began the journey back to the station, the air between you was heavy with tension. There was an awkward silence that seemed to stretch on endlessly, punctuated only by the sound of the radio crackling with dispatch updates.
As Tim sat behind the wheel, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions churned within him. He couldn't shake the sense of shame that gnawed at him, a bitter reminder of how his feelings for you had clouded his judgment during the call.
Seeing you hurt had unleashed a torrent of emotions within him, overriding his instincts as a cop and blinding him to the dangers that still lurked nearby. In that moment, all he could think about was protecting you, shielding you from harm at any cost.
But in his haste to ensure your safety, he had let his guard down, allowing the suspects to slip through his fingers and jeopardizing the success of the mission. The weight of his mistake bore down on him like a crushing weight, a stark reminder of the consequences of letting his personal feelings interfere with his professional duties.
As he drove back to the station, the silence in the car was suffocating, amplifying the cacophony of thoughts that raged within his mind. He couldn't shake the sense of disappointment that gripped him, a bitter reminder of how he had let you down when you needed him most. When you needed him to be your role model, the person you should've learned from.
You couldn't help but feel a sense of unease gnawing at you, the weight of Tim's disappointment hanging heavily in the air. With each passing moment, the silence grew more oppressive, suffocating you with its intensity.
Glancing over at Tim, you feel a pang of guilt at the sight of his clenched jaw and furrowed brow. His usually expressive eyes were now unreadable, a mask of frustration and disappointment that sent a shiver down your spine.
As you wrestled with your own feelings of guilt and self-doubt, you couldn't shake the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach. Tim's silent treatment spoke volumes, a clear indication of his disapproval of your actions during the call.
Despite your best efforts to break the silence, Tim remained resolutely silent, his gaze fixed firmly on the road ahead. "Tim, are you okay?" you insisted. But your words seemed to fall on deaf ears, his gaze fixed straight ahead as if lost in thought.
"I'm fine, officer Y/L/N." he muttered tersely, his voice clipped and devoid of emotion. But you could see the tension in his shoulders, the furrowed brow that betrayed the turmoil that raged within him.
You weren't about to let him brush you off that easily. "No, you're not," you insisted, your voice tinged with concern. "Something's bothering you, Tim. I can tell."
He shot you a sharp glance, his eyes flashing with irritation. "I said I'm fine," he snapped, his tone sharp and biting. But you could see the pain that flickered behind his eyes, a vulnerability that he tried so desperately to hide.
"Tim, please," you pressed, reaching out to touch his arm gently. "You know you can talk to me, right? Whatever it is, I'm here for you."
For a moment, Tim seemed to waver, his defenses crumbling under the weight of your words. But then, as quickly as it had come, the moment passed, and he withdrew from your touch, his expression hardening once more.
"I don't need your pity, Y/N," he spat, his voice laced with bitterness. "I can handle this on my own."
But you refused to back down, refusing to let him push you away. "This isn't about pity, Tim," you countered, your voice steady and unwavering. "I care about you, and I want to help. But you have to let me in."
Tim's jaw clenched with frustration, a surge of emotion bubbling to the surface as he struggled to contain his feelings. "I cannot change my feelings for you, believe me I fucking tried," he blurted out, the words tumbling from his lips before he could stop them.
The admission hung heavy in the air between you, a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the depths of his heart. And as you looked into his eyes, you could see the pain and anguish that swirled within them, a reflection of your own inner turmoil.
"I need to know that you're safe. Because I care about you," he continued, his voice softer now, tinged with vulnerability. "I kind of like you. And I lost control today because you got hurt. And I lost it too at the bar because you were flirting with that good of nothing. "
The words hung in the air between you, a silent acknowledgment of the truth that lay beneath the surface. And as you stood there, locked in a moment of raw honesty, you knew that your relationship with Tim would never be the same again.
The weight of his confession hung between you like a heavy fog, casting a shadow over the otherwise quiet interior of the car.
You glanced over at Tim, his expression guarded and unreadable as he focused on the road ahead. The air was heavy with emotion, a silent barrier that seemed to stretch on for miles.
"Tim, I..." you began, your voice faltering as you struggled to find the right words. But Tim cut you off before you could finish, his tone sharp and dismissive.
"I don't want to talk about it, Y/N," he snapped, his hands tightening around the steering wheel. "Just forget I said anything."
But you couldn't let it go that easily, couldn't let him push you away when all you wanted was to be there for him. "Tim, please," you pleaded, reaching out to touch his arm gently. "I need you to understand that I feel the same way."
His eyes flickering with uncertainty as he glanced over at you. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I mean what I said." taking a deep breath, you summoned all of your courage, pushing aside your fears and doubts as you spoke "I have feelings for you, ok? But I tried to push them away because I didn't want to complicate things. But after you told me..."
Tim's grip on the steering wheel tightened, his knuckles turning white as he processed your words. For a long moment, neither of you spoke, the silence stretching between you like an unbridgeable chasm.
Then, finally, Tim let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping with defeat. "I don't know what to say, Y/N," he admitted, his voice tinged with resignation "Things are complicated now, for sure." he chuckled, smiling at you as he parked the car.
"You and me, dinner. Tonight." you demanded, trying to play it off like nothing happened. "We talk about it like grownups."
"It's a date, then." he nodded in agreement, forcing his lips to form a straight line, to hide his dumb smile. "I-I.. I mean if you want to." he stumbled upon his words, scratching the back of his head nervously.
"Yes, Tim. I'd love that." you smiled at him as you both took the men from the backseat and guided them through the corridor of the station.
"Tim and Y/N sitting in a tree—" one of the men started mocking the scene they witnessed, but you and Tim cut him off
"Shut up."

Catching Up || Tim Bradford
pairing: tim bradford / formermilitary!fem!reader
in which tim runs into an old soldier he used to know in the bustling city of los angeles.
*guys i tried to hard to not use y/n or y/l/n but im sorry it had to be done :(*
cw! intended lowercase, not proofread, fluff, mentions of abuse and cheating, hints of smut of you squint towards the end :)
gif not mine, creds to owner above!
it had been 15 years since tim bradford had made his decision to retire from active duty in the army. shortly after he made that decision, he regretted it. becoming a cop? boy, was he stupid, it would never work out. now, 15 years later, he likes where he ended up. 12 years as a TO, and a bit of being a sergeant under his belt, he could’ve never predicted this is where he would be in the LAPD.
it was another day out on patrol, lucy chen sitting in the passenger seat of his shop, chattier than ever. tim just wanted the quiet, but he knows how she is. she won’t shut up for anything.
“so- anyways. we get to the restaurant, and he told me he had a reservation. turns out he lied, and the wait was over an hour. literally, the worst first date i think i’ve ever been on,” lucy rambled on, and tim added his two cents every now and then. it was a surprisingly quiet morning, very few calls coming in, and other units would attatch before he could. so, he resorted to traffic stops to try and make time go a little faster.
in this particular traffic stop, he pulled over a man for running two stop signs. when running his license, tim found out he was flagged as a suspect in a few armed robberies in the last few weeks. he decided to take a peak through the windows, seeing if he could spot anything to make the morning more interesting.
as he leaned back to hand the driver his license and registration, he saw two guns lying in the backseat floorboard. not very well hidden, he thought.
“sir, do you have a license to carry those firearms?”
“what firearms? i don’t have anything.”
“uh-huh. sure. and i’m a property brother. now, ill ask again, do you have a permit to carry the two weapons in your backseat?”
before the man responded, he looked over at lucy, standing on the passenger side, and slammed on his gas pedal. tim cursed under his breath as he took off back to the shop, and sped after the driver.
“07-adam-19, we are code 3, on road pursuit of a suspect of a few armed robberies, he is armed. gray sedan, driving 55 on melrose. requesting backup and airship.” he commands over the shop’s radio.
following the driver, he loses sight of the sedan in the traffic of lunch rush. “shit.”
“there!” lucy, quiet as she’s been all morning, pipes up and points to the vehicle turning onto a one-way road downtown.
“he’s driving against traffic on a one-way, is he trying to get killed?” tim questions, following in close pursuit.
“maybe he thinks we won’t follow him down a one way?” lucy chimes in.
before tim can manage to respond, they watch the gray sedan crash head on into a semi. glass shatters everywhere, the car seemingly crushing on impact. tim quickly parks the shop, and they run over to the accident, checking on the man inside.
“sir- sir are you alright?” lucy asked, concerned. in response, the man groans.
“well, he’s alive. let’s assess injuries and take him in.”
they pull the man out of the car, scanning for injuries, but surprisingly the man is barely hurt. lucy heads over to the semi to talk to the driver, while tim cuffs the owner of the sedan and guides him into the shop. the ride back to the station was quiet, filled with the occasional radio chatter.
“a property brother, huh?” lucy teases.
“i think i would be a hell of a property brother.”
“i mean, you look the part. you’re just to grumpy to be on tv.”
tim just sighs. as they pull back into the station, tim takes the suspect in for processing while lucy takes the guns found in the car to evidence. as tim is processing and prepping the paperwork, he sees a face he hasn’t seen in a very long time.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊ ₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊ ₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
it had been 8 years since you made the decision to retire from active duty in the navy. shortly after you made that decision, you decided it was the best decision you had ever made. going back to school, getting a degree to help better the world and the people in it. not to mention your divorce. that had quite an impact on your decision.
you saw first hand the mental toll that special forces, well, military life in general had on people that decided to join. this included yourself, close to your breaking point with the physical and mental demands of special ops. you decided to use your GI bill to go back to school and get your psychology degree, trying to help those who struggled as you did.
now, 8 years later, you had been a successful therapist and mental health counselor in los angeles. it was a change of pace from the constant, bustling military life you had gotten used to, but you wouldn’t trade it for anything. getting to hear all kinds of stories from all kinds of people was the highlight of your career.
a few weeks ago, you received word that the mid-wilshire police department contacted you about a new task force: criminal psychology and recovery. after some back and fourth, you had a meeting with sergeant grey and the union rep, officer nolan, set for this morning.
walking into the alive station was caffeine to your veins. it reminded you of being on-duty, reliving your life on base or on a ship. walking up to the front desk, you politely let the officer know you’re here to meet with grey.
after a few minutes, a stoic man shakes your hand and introduces himself as sergeant wade grey. formal introductions are made as he leads you back to his office, handing you a visitor pass.
“please, take a seat. officer nolan should be here any minute, can i get you anything?”
“i’m alright, thank you sergeant.”
“please, call me wade. now, i understand you were in the military? what happened there, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“of course! i was in the navy, worked special ops. after a few years, i saw and felt how taxing it was for myself and fellow sailors, so i decided to do something about it. got my degree in psychology, and started working mental health counseling.” you explained to wade, animatedly moving your hands.
“interesting. what kind of work did you do in special ops?”
before you could respond, an older man walks in. “sorry i’m late, got caught up in processing. ms y/l/n, nice to finally meet you! i’m officer john nolan, and im looking forward to what you have in mind for this new project.”
the three of you go back and fourth for roughly an hour, talking specifics of the program and nailing down a solid plan. you jot down notes on your phone, and before you know it, you’re set to head an LAPD task force in two weeks.
standing, you shake sergeant grey and officer nolan’s hands, as they begin to walk you out. from behind, you hear a somewhat familiar voice ring out.
“y/l/n?”
you turn, facing the sound.
“bradford?”
you’re both shocked to see each other, standing in silence for just a moment before he approaches you for a hug.
“it’s been a while! since when were you in LA?” he questioned, a small smile shining through his grumpy work persona.
“a few years now, actually! started mental health counseling around here about four years ago,” you explained, while nolan and grey just look at each other and back to you and bradford.
“wait, bradford you know ms. y/l/n?” john questions, trying and failing to piece it together without an explaination.
“yeah. we, uh, worked a few operations together back in my army days. this girl is hell of a leader, i’ll tell you that. she led an ops team of army, navy, and marines into a huge crack in enemy territory. gave us the upper hand in a ton of future fights.” tim compliments, focusing on you.
“oh please, i led my people, you led yours. don’t give me all the credit bradford.” you laugh. you forgot how easy it was to be around him and banter.
“yeah yeah. well, i do have to head back, gotta process this S.O.B. so we can hit the streets again. hey, why don’t we catch up? grab drinks, on me?”
“sounds like a plan, what time do you get off?”
“8:00.” you open your phone calendar to add “drinks with tim” into the 8:00 spot, and slide the device back into your pocket.
“well as lovely as this has been, i have a lot of work to do, yknow, setting up a new program and all. officer nolan, sergeant grey, lovely to meet both of you, and ill stay in contact. tim, ill see you tonight!” you wave as you walk away.
the rest of the day seems to fly, contacting some of your colleagues to aid you in this new project. tim seems to feel the same, arresting a few people and filling out paperwork. by the time 8 pm rolls around, you find yourself texting tim.
Tim
———
-hey, where we headed for drinks?
there’s a bar down the street from the station, meet me there? -
-perfect, i’ll be there in 10 :)
you smile and shift your car into drive, enjoying the peaceful california evening. after a few minutes, you push open the door to a small bar called “the hard road bar.” glancing around, you spot tim in a booth against the wall.
sliding yourself into the seat across from him, you exchange your hellos, as a waitress comes up to ask for your drink orders. tim gets a whiskey neat and you order two shots of tequila.
“so, mental health counseling, huh?” tim questions as the waitress walks away.
“yeah! special ops is draining, and i saw how bad it affected people. so i wanted to help.” you give him the brief explanation, and bounce a question back onto him. “how’s police work going? last time we talked was, what, 9 years ago? you were barely touching the surface of your job now.”
“it’s good! i enjoy it. keeps me busy, i get to protect people, and teach the next generation of officers. it’s hard a lot of days, but seeing that people are being helped and trouble is taken off the streets makes it worth it. oh! how’s shawn?” he ricochets back.
you pause. you weren’t expecting him to ask about your ex-husband. tim seems to notice your hesitation. “you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to-“
“-no! no, it’s okay. uh, shawn and i got a divorce 8 years ago. part of the reason i retired, i needed to get the hell away from him.”
“woah, what’s the story there?” he questions, as the waitress sets down your drinks, and he picks up his glass.
“to make an overwhelmingly long story short, shawn cheated, i found out and filed for divorce. he did not make the process easy, but a few bruises and court dates later, i’m free.” you pick up one of the shot glasses, throwing it back as the liquor burns your chest.
“damn, he cheated? on you? and- what do you mean bruises?” he questions as he lifts his glass to his lips.
“well… when i found out he was cheating, he tried to manipulate me into staying. when that didn’t work, he resorted to… violence. but it’s fine now. he’s in prison for domestic assault charges, and i have his money. so it’s great!”
tim laughs at your last statement, but his expression softens into one of concern. “are you alright, though? i never knew he was the kind of guy to do something like that.”
“yeah, i’m good. whenever he gets out, my lawyer already has the restraining order ready to go. so he won’t be an issue. oh! how’s isabel?”
“ah- my turn for the awkward long story short. we got divorced a few years ago too. she started using and got hooked, i lost contact with her for two years before i could get her into rehab. i broke it off from there,” tim explained, waving his free hand around gently and holding eye contact.
“oh! yknow, out of all things, i never expected that. well, cheers to us being in the same boat, yeah?” you hold up your other shot towards him, and he clinks his glass against yours. as the night drawls on, more drinks and added to the tab, and eventually you both decide to call it quits. drunkenly, but still, call it a night.
as you’re walking next to tim out to your cars, you check your phone and read “1:27 am. damn. that was a lot more time than i thought,” you hiccuped, and looked back up at tim’s face. has he always been that attractive?
“yea’, it definitely was. we sh’uld do ‘t again sometime.” tim’s words slurred, as he leaned closer to you to pull you into a hug.
you leaned into him, and relaxed into his body heat. he smelled nice, like fresh rain and forest. you let your melt under his touch, and you just want to stay there forever.
tim eventually pulls away, but keeps a firm hold on your shoulders. you look up at him, wondering where these sudden thoughts are coming from. he makes eye contact, and his lips part slightly. your eyes snap to this small movement, and you can’t help but wonder how nice of a kisser he would be.
he notices the shifting of your eyes, and before he knows it, his lips are on yours, eyes closed, breathing in your presence. your floral perfume, the fabric of your blouse, the hand he feels caress his face. he wants more of it. he slides his hands from your shoulders to your lower back, and lightly pull you closer.
he suddenly pulls away, panting slightly, and looks back over at his truck. “yknow what, fuck it. wanna keep this going?”
“you know i do, bradford. you know i do.”

Happy Wednesday wonderful fandom :) We have hit episode 4, I once again am SO happy this is back. Makes my Wednesdays so much better. I missed this show so much. Now I was legit resigned to have no real moment in this one. I really was. Not only that but I was ok with that too. The SL was really really good. I was enjoying Wes/Wopez getting some of the spotlight. I adore this show as a whole.
So I was down to enjoy this ep just for the SL they had lined up. I am thrilled we got a moment. Scaling the walls excited. I do my best to keep these first impressions as brief as possible. Since I do deep dives in the summer. When I really flesh my thoughts with the entire season in hand. But when we get good moments it's harder to be brief ha So bear with me if I'm a little longer than I have been. Let us begin shall we?
7x04 Darkness Falling
We start the day off with some good ole ass kissing from Ridley. The more this kid opens his mouth the more I dislike him tbh. So I'm with Tim groaning at his platitude. 'Oh god.' I'm cackling. I love this man so much you guys. Lucy is all smiles though of course. She wants to see the best in him because well it's Lucy. We all love this woman for her compassion. But their reactions are just so on point. Their Grumpy x Sunshine dynamic doing it's thing. Always makes me happy to witness.
I do love that Lucy follows it up with saying no one likes a suck up lmao My girl. I mean no one does.....They drive me absolutely insane. But this is her accepting what he has to say but also letting him know she isn't won over either. He has work to do. They both do really. Friggin miracle they're both still standing there.
We get to a gnarly crash and the rookies are put to work by Celina. Who is primary. You go girl. So excited for her this season. We can sense her stress as she attempts to contain and maintain the scene. She has Ridley take pics of the cars, which he messes up. Not getting every inch like she asked.
Telling him firmly but still kindly that she can't hold his hand. Texas giving him a hard time seeing this. Seth gets a little uppity with him. It's here we witness conflicting stories …..No matter the reasoning a cop who lies habitually is ick central for me. Makes me start to question his integrity. Gonna take a lot to come back from this IMO. Lucy looks very disappointed. I would be too. Also a little on edge wondering why he's lying?
First thing noticed when Penn was searching the car was the gun in the glove box....I knew when he said it was all clear it was going to bite him in the ass. It does immediately and royally so. We see bit by bit that confidence that he came in with slowly eroding. Tim is breaking this kid down in order to build him back up. He's gotta quit it with the Texas stuff. It only angers Tim even more. He doesn't want excuses he wants progress.
I know it may seem like Tim being extra hard on Texas. But D (makeitastrength) brought up a great point from 3x11 either last ep or before in the comments. On how Tim trains based on his trainee. And this boy needs to be knocked down a thousand pegs and then some. We see with each episode him changing I will say. Becoming more remorseful. Less cocky with Tim. The way he reacts to his punishment is proof of that.
Tim is right to do this to him. He’s not in Texas anymore. That is not a valid excuse for everything. Or ever honestly. I had a guy on my team who did the same thing. Would excuse his screw ups and say 'But in Tennessee we did this.' etc. One day we were on a ride a long. He did it again as an excuse. I told him you’re no longer in TN. You’re in CO now. Those rules don’t apply here. And it finally clicked and he stopped doing it.
Tim has to beat it into his brain he’s not in a small town anymore. Far from it….and he most definitely isn’t in Texas anymore either. Once he lets that go he will get better. Tim pegged him from day one about him needing to be deprogrammed first. That’s going to take the longest with him.
SOOOOO Seth is officially a liar..... I hate it so very much. Not only did he lie but he did it in front of Lucy earlier. Someone mentioned the possibility of him being a liar. It was in an ask D got I remember and I never thought of it. So Kudos to that person for spotting that early. I didn't clock that. Like at all. Cause I too am like Lucy in my empathy and believed him. Guess I shouldn’t have….Hiding more than I would like.
My gut is saying I would like him to wash out. Is that mean? Sure but also he's not giving anything positive right now. We haven’t see one since s3 with the Badger and Katie. But he’s Lucy’s rookie, so that’s the only reason I don’t actually want that to come to pass.. Idk how he’s gonna come back from this compulsive lying. I’m not a fan. Gonna take some really good development to make me forgive this.
I LOVE this final moment with Texas. Tim does a masterful job of not breaking. I commend Miles for saying he appreciates all Tim is doing for him. He can see that it isn't just to be harsh with him. There is a method to his madness. To quote Lucy from 1x04 'He's calculating not cruel.' He’s teaching this kid right.
Not only that he recognizes why Tim is so hard on him. Also he's being brought back down to earth. Especially about not knowing it all. Realizing how many holes he really has in his knowledge. Having an epiphany in this scene. It's amazing progress to see. You're growing on me Texas. On Tim too. You can see it in his eyes through out his speech. Excited to see how he continues to be molded.
There is so much to unpack in this scene. It's insane. First of all. Tim’s house! I've missed it. God it’s gorgeous. Holy hell. So glad Eric pressed to have it return. It's as beautiful and understated as he is. Also feral Caitlin must make appearance. Cause he is in street clothes after all. gimme gimme. AND In my favorite color no less. Only he could make such a plain shirt so god damn attractive. The way it tightens around his chest. Hot damn. I'm a puddle. Mmm wanna climb him like a tree. *fans self*
If that isn't enough to make me lose my mind we have Kojo! Return of our fav pupper. Their handsome fur baby making an appearance. Barking before Lucy even knocks on the door. Just knows his mama is near. Alerting Tim to get up and greet their visitor. Look at how excited our boy is when he opens the door and she's there. No one makes this man light up faster than Lucy Chen.
We see the disappointment on his face when he realizes it's work related. Hence the sassy reply about her question. Lucy, just letting her damn self in regardless of what Tim is saying though. They are in fine form here everyone. I’m so happy right now. Lucy airing her concerns about Seth to Tim. Saying how she can't shake the feeling something is off. I feel that way too...Giving me the ick hard.
Tim does his best to put her mind at ease about Seth. Saying how comprehensive they are. They're invasive and he has to pass a polygraph as well. Tim slyly mentioning how they both know how illuminating those can be. Heh Tim’s liar detector joke. Love the little shots he takes and it earns a smile out of her. Little flirt. Well done babe.
I adore that her instinct is still to rely on Tim. When she’s worried or unsure. That is her go to. He is still her person in that regard. That inexplicable pull she can’t quite deny or ignore. Was hoping this whole Seth thing would lead her to Tim for advice. Just wasn't expecting it to be in his house. I'm tickled pink about it though haha
Feeling a surge of frustration and doubt, Lucy apologizes and starts to walk away. Like it's just hitting her what she's done. Showing up unannounced at his house, forcing her way in, asking his advice and flirting with him in the process. Her adrenaline wearing off and she is feeling vulnerable. She can feel that familiar draw of their banter. As she stated in 5x12. They're so good at arguing. Her immediate reaction is to retreat for a multitude of reasons. Kojo gets up and says hold on there mom not just yet.....
I love him getting up right away not letting her go without some snuggles. That a boy. You be our little Chenford cheerleader. Doing his best to keep her there. He resets the mood with this move. Lucy loving on Kojo makes my heart so happy. Also look at Tim. The man could power a city with that smile. He is melting into a damn puddle in front of her. Couldn't be happier to see them together again. Lucy letting Kojo know how much she misses him.
'Feeling's mutual.' OH. MY. LORD. Way to be transparent af my love. Do it more….Straight up using Kojo to say he misses Lucy. It's oozing out of him, how much he craves her presence. I cannot everyone. Let's not ignore the fact that Lucy looks at him sweetly in reply. Melting a little more each episode. It's a very telling look. Still a little guarded but happy none the less. I will take this win from her. So will Tim. Any positive moment with her is a win.
Tim nervously asking her to stay. *screams into a pillow* Sweet baby James. I'm so giddy I might faint. The little breath he takes before he asks. *heart clutch* So reminiscent of 5x08. This is everything. That man is so so gone for her. He wants her to stay more than anything. Ugh my heart. Look at him. Hands in his pockets. Being a little awko taco. Hoping against hope she will say yes. The only way he could be more transparent is if he wore a 'I love and miss Lucy.' sign. Holy cow. If you had any lingering doubts after last week this should obliterate that.
Lucy is stunned by his offer. Stands up right away with her 'Oh.' You can see she has to fight that magnetic pull of theirs. That need to be around him and stay. Melissa plays it so well. Fighting that urge. Knowing if she stays where it’ll end. Most likely in his bed... She can’t risk that. Can't risk hurting her heart like that again. Even though that same heart is dying to stay, her brain helps her bolt. Her nervous chuckle as she tells him no. Stumbling over her words to make a quick exit. Leaving both her boys behind. This hurt so good. Oh my lord. I am here for the slow burn everyone. I've said this many times. To get back to the summit that is them together it's going to take time.
When we do it's going to be so worth it. The delayed gratification will be unreal. We have to remember it's been FOUR episodes. Just four. I'm feeling no impatience at this point. This is going to be a lovely climb back to them. They can give me little moments like this as they make their way back all they want. I'm here for it and grateful to have them. I couldn’t be prouder of Tim for going for it though. Being the first to put himself out there again this second round. Just like he did in S5. Showing her he misses her with this offer. Testing their grounds by doing so. Think he could tell she wanted to. But wasn't surprised when she said no.
Goodness this made me giddy af. Also that man is a snack in that shirt. So she is strong to walk away from him. She all but runs when he is soft with her. Can’t say I blame her. Right now that way lies hurt. Also they need to have a real convo first. But hot damn I’m excited he went for it. Not once but twice. Saying he missed her inadvertently then asking her to stay. Ooooh I’m excited you guys! If you aren't I can't help you I really can't LOL Reaching down to pat the good boy with a sigh. His wingman really tried. Swing and a miss Timothy. But proud of you for giving it a go. I cannot wait till next week
Thank you x1000 to everyone who interacts with these. With your likes, comments and reblogs. They make my whole day every time a notification comes in. Biggest smile on my face. You're all the best. See you all in 7x05 :)

Side notes-Non Chenford
'How secure you are in your marriage.' I’ve been saying that since Wes heard the tapes. Oh Wes, what happens when you marry a beautiful, strong and independent woman.
'Being a woman is consistently terrifying.' If that isn’t the truth…. Line of the season for Angela right there.
The Sorority girls kicking the shit out of that guy was incredible. When I saw the blood on the floor I was worried. Then to see all those woman kicking, punching and stabbing that dude. Was epic. Angela telling them they have her recommendation if they ever was join the LAPD LOL
I wanna cry for Wes with this SL. Letting a killer back onto the streets. Doing his job or not that weighs on a person. Their psyche and conscience. He gave me such anxiety as he raced the the scene. Gah just breaking my heart when Angela checks in on him. Well done Shawn for this gif above. We don't get to see him flaunt his chops a whole lot and I'm happy to see they gave him the chance. He was fantastic in this ep.
Bailey took the phone number and let him go. Props my friend. More balls than your husband. When it comes to people I love I get very gray. I'm all about black and white like Tim but also like Tim, when its someone I love those start to blur to protect them. So kinda don't blame her for taking the insurance of his number.
Locking her away isn’t the answer my dude. It’s insulting to think she can’t handle herself if I was her. Be better to be together and tackle it as a team. But that’s just me.
‘You’re a grown ass woman not baby sitting you.’ Wade Grey I adore you sir.
Nyla being on her own making my heart palpitate. It felt very last of us if you’ve ever played that game and know the stress of it lol It was good but also anxiety inducing.
Loved the Nyla and Lopez hug I love it. Always happy to see this bad ass duo together.
7x05 looks good with the serial killer SL. Have a WILD theory of maybe it being Seth? I highly doubt it is. But dude be sus af right now. If that was true could bring up PTSD for Lucy with Caleb and all that. But that's a crazy road to go down. But had to get it off my chest on the off chance he ends up being involved somehow.

It'll Be Okay
Celina Juarez x reader - Angst
-----------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------
Prompt: Celina and Y/n are in a secret relationship, but when an earthquake hits, it comes out that the two are together.
Word Count: 1807
Warnings: Injuries
Also, Not Proofread 💅
Masterlist
---------------------------------------------------------
Y/n parked her car in her usual parking spot. It was a bright and sunny day in Los Angeles, not a hint of miserable weather to be seen. She climbed out of her car, tossing her backpack over her shoulder as she began to walk to the front door of the precinct. A smile creeps up her face as she hears the sound of sneakers running up behind her. A familiar ravenette pops up next to her, two cups of coffee in her hands as she speeds up her pace.
“You excited for the meeting today?” Celina teases, a playful grin on her lips as she finally catches up and bumps arms with Y/n. Y/n laughs, “As excited as I would be to encounter a starving lion.” Y/n jokes, bumping Celina back. “Well, if it makes you feel better, I got you coffee,” Celina grins, passing the woman the other coffee in her hands.
“What would I do without you?” Y/n sighs with a loving grin, taking the hot cup of coffee from her. Celina pulls the woman over between two empty cop cars so they were out of sight of anyone else. “Be grumpy and mean without your daily caffeine,” Celina teases before looking around to make sure they weren’t spotted by anyone before kissing her sweetly. Y/n smiles into the kiss, her hand reaching up to caress Celina’s cheek. “I’d be grumpy and mean without my daily you.” Y/n corrects with a cheeky grin, pointer finger booping her nose.
“My god that was cheesy,” Celina playfully groaned before guiding the woman back to their walk to the entrance of the precinct. Y/n opens the door for her, their eyes stuck in an adoring gaze as Celina walks through. Two lovers caught in a fond haze that made them both look stupidly giddy as they walked in.
“Hey you two,” Lucy teases as she spots them walking in the doors, a knowing look in her eyes. “Hey, Chen.” Y/n smiles, trying to ignore the blush that crawled up her neck at Lucy’s teasing tone. Lucy being the only one that knew of their relationship, having been Celina’s roommate, the relationship was extremely difficult to hide from her. “Where’s my coffee?” Lucy jokes, playfully bumping Celina’s shoulder, making the woman roll her eyes with a grin.
Once they all headed their separate ways, Captain Bishop called everyone to a meeting, the room being so crowded that half the officers attending had to stand due to a lack of chairs. He was addressing a sting that was being run by a detective that required all hands on deck. It was a bust of a bunch of drug traffickers that also had a few hostages in their building. Y/n and Celina had heard about the bust earlier that week, being friends with Detective Lopez had its perks when it came to being in the know.
As Captain Bishop was about to begin his speech to the precinct, the ground began to rumble angrily, walls shaking and objects falling. The officers ran for cover under tables and doorways, Lucy running to stand with Tim in one of the doorways. Y/n attempted to run over to one of the tables for cover, but the earthquake's tremors grew stronger. The building quaking violently, pieces of the ceiling falling from their place onto the unsuspecting officer below. The lights flashing on and off with each rumble temporarily shrouding the officers in darkness. Screams of pain and terror ring out as the natural disaster takes its onslaught.
As the earthquake begins to subside, everyone scrambles to their feet, checking their fellow officers for injuries. Lucy and Tim rush to check on Captain Bishop and John who were struck down by debris, both only having minor injuries. Celina gets up from under one of the tables, scanning the damage around the room. The precinct was disheveled, debris littering the ground, broken glass scattered, lights fallen or half hung. Coffee coating the floors stickily from uncovered mugs and cups.
“Is everyone alright?” Captain Bishop calls out, hearing a chorus of yes’s and no’s. The no’s mostly from Smitty who was unharmed but ready to go home as per usual. “Wait- wait-! Where’s Y/l/n?” Celina panics, eyes frantically searching the room for the woman who she walked in with. All eyes fell on Celina and then to the piles of rubble in the middle of the room. Strangled breaths heard from one of the hazardous piles.
Y/n gasped for breath, her hands frantically trying to shove the debris off of her but to no avail. The large chunk of ceiling that fell down onto her was suffocating. Her body ached with each desperate gasp for breath. Her hands smacking against the debris atop her to get their attention. Bones broken and body bruised, blood running from fresh wounds. Her cries and frantic gasps as she tries to free herself from the rubble don’t go unnoticed though, Celina hearing the familiar voice.
Celina sprinted over, bending down to try and push the heavy pieces off the woman. “John! Help me!” Celina wails out, her hands desperately clawing at the debris that covered her girlfriend. John, Tim and some fellow officers running over to aid the rescue. “Come on, come on! I know, I know, I know, baby, I got you,” Celina tries to sooth, not caring about the cuts that the sharp rubble scratched into her hands nor outting their relationship. All she cared about was freeing the woman she loved. “Help me!” The dark haired woman screams, not satisfied with the speed of the rescue of her girlfriend. More officers running in to help free the woman. Tears slipping down Celina’s cheeks as she refocuses on her girlfriend, hands pushing the woman’s hair out of her face, trying to keep her calm as they work to free her. “You’re gonna be okay, mi amor.” She stutters out, her voice cracking in fear and worry. Y/n’s eyes locked onto Celina’s, mute sobs leaving her mouth as tears slipped down her face. Her hand frantically reaching out for Celina’s and holding onto it tightly. A cough of blood leaving Y/n’s mouth as a piece of debris shifts on top of her.
“Someone dispatch a damn ambulance!” Tim shouts, glaring back at some officers who stood by uselessly and watched in shock. Lucy ran out of the room to grab one of the first aids from the front desk. Tim and John lead the fellow officers as they struggle to lift the chunk of debris off the woman, chucking it to the side as the sound of an ambulance approaching fills their ears. “You’re gonna be okay, baby.” Celina reassures, tears flooding her vision. She wasn’t sure whether she was reassuring Y/n or herself at this point. John gently places his hand on Celina’s shoulder, softly pushing her back as Lucy and Tim work on temporarily stopping the bleeding that gushed from Y/n’s torn up thigh. A piece of metal had slashed her thigh open when they had moved the rubble, that accompanied with the crippling pain of the woman’s broken bones was enough to have her fading in and out of consciousness.
“It’s gonna be okay, Celina.” John softly states, bringing the woman into a hug as she sobs. Her eyes unable to look away from the sight of her bloodied girlfriend. John does her the favor of shifting their positions while they hug so she can’t see the gory view. Paramedics rush into the building, quickly making their way to the woman that was splayed across the floor. Working her onto a backboard before lifting her onto the gurney.
“Come on, I’ll drive you to the hospital.” John says, wrapping his arm around the sobbing woman’s shoulders as he guides her out to his shop. His heart aching at the sight of Celina so distraught, he never knew she was dating Y/n, but he could see just how much she meant to her. As Celina gets into the passenger side of the car, her eyes couldn’t seem to leave the window. Her mind is too busy imagining all the possible scenarios and outcomes that could happen, manifesting only the best, but her anxiety unconsciously mongering up her worst fears in her head. She didn’t want to lose her girlfriend, how could a day start out so sweet just to flip and turn into one of the worst days of her life?
“Celina-” John calls out, his eyebrows furrowed in worry as he faces the woman. The car had been parked a while ago, Celina too lost in her thoughts to have noticed. “Hey, you alright? I know it’s a stupid question, but you’ve been staring off for a really long time.” He asks, patting the woman’s shoulder in sympathy. “Yeah, I’m just scared.” She mumbles, her voice raspy from screaming and crying. John nods in understanding. “I get that. But thinking about the ‘what ifs’ will only drive you crazy. Try to be brave for Y/n. She must be scared too, right?.” John advises, giving her a sympathetic smile, trying to comfort her the best he could. He climbs out of the car, walking around to the other side to open the door for Celina.
Celina takes a deep breath, nodding at his words. She can be brave for Y/n. She climbs out of the car, walking with John into the emergency room. The hospital was cold, the air smelt an annoying amount of clean. Her heart beats out of her chest as they sit down in the waiting room. The chair was old and the fabric far worn, the color faded to a dull blue-ish green. Her knee couldn’t stop bouncing. Something John took note of, trying to comfortingly rub her shoulder to ease some of her worries. The atmosphere didn’t help. Due to the earthquake, the hospital was packed. With both patients and family that waited for news that would alter their future. Celina’s breaths were shaky as her mind ran with worry, praying the surgeon would make their way to them with an update of some kind. What if Y/n was hurt worse than they had thought? What if she didn’t make it? What if she-
“Celina, I’m gonna run and grab us coffee, I’ll be back.” John pats Celina’s shoulder softly before getting up to grab them their drinks. He knew this would be a long night for Celina, and he wanted to be there for her.
Celina sighed, running a hand over her hair to smooth it down. Tears brimming in her eyes but she forced them back. Her knee bounced anxiously, she felt worried, nearly sick to her stomach with fear. She could only hold hope that It’ll Be Okay.

Dc knak au with the batfam and a fem!disabled reader.
[ Part 1 , Part 2 (here)]
Warning: yandere (knak aus are by base yandere), mentions of illness, mentions of poor mental health
-----------
Being adopted by Bruce Wayne *the* Batman wasn't what you expected to happen after the fundraiser. You'd been grumpy and kinda mean to Dick so you thought the family would have ignored you. If it wasn't for the fact the memory from your other life told you *who* he was, and that he wouldn't have just adopted the problem child to show how kind he was, that stopped you from lashing out at their behavior.
They all came on really strong, all of them already calling you sister instead of your name, save Bruce and Alfred whom used your name but often referred to you as daughter or granddaughter. It would have been sweet if it didn't make you feel so guilty. Sure they weren't telling you about their night lives, but compared to the secret of your origins they seemed honest and open. So instead of opening up you built your walls higher scared of if they learned the parts of you hid so strongly.
They'd figure it out maybe. But you gave them some truths, like you'd told them your true age. Tried to say you old life. They found nothing on it so they swiftly assumed you were just a kid pretending. Plus they'd already been warned of this habit by the matron of the group home you had been in. The woman obviously wad trying to dissuade them from her because she wasn't a normal kid.
They loved how you were like a little adult. It was a case of 6 or 60. The way you behaved was different then when Damien tried to seem mature. He acted like an upperclass snob assumption a kid would paint an adult as. Where as you, well you gave of the eternally tired done with life retail worker who just got told their local store no longer stocked their comfort food.
It was cute and funny, the family made various memes out of you sharing them in the various group chats. But then it got not as funny. It had been several weeks and you hadn't stopped and acted like a kid once.
Bruce while planning to find out why you behaved like this, sent you to a therapist with Dick. Bruce figured it could have been a serious case of abuse that left you so aged inside so he was going digging for your past.
Dick was happy to take you to any appointment. He tried to make it a brother sister outing. You'd go to whichever doctor you saw that day, mental or physical, and then you'd do something based on the energy you had left. Sometimes it was just getting a Robin meal at his favorite Batburger, sometimes he took you shopping and got you a toy. The later was helpful in figuring out your preferred entertainment and aesthetic. He was so going to earn the title of best big brother. Or so he planned. If it wasn't for his work as a cop and not having someone like Alfred to help out in the house he would have adopted you himself. His precious little chickadee. He'd be your favorite and he'd definitely make his title of favorite known.
Jason was the one who'd gotten the title as your favorite. You didn't expect him to be around often. He still had his issues with Bruce and his own worries with crime alley and the pit rage. But since you joined the family he was noticeably around since you met him.
He treated you like an adult for the most part. The exceptions were things he thought were dangerous and laughing when you swore. He has a video of you saved on his phone giving a quiet heart filled fuck me as you looked at your fallen ice cream. He loves to mimic it from time to time when bad things happened. Lord help anyone who tried to harm *his* baby sister. He'd gotten his hands dirty for less.
Tim was the distant one, he almost seemed timid at first to approach you. Really he'd just been observing you and learning all your habits. At first while he thought you were cute he didn't get the bond. Then the incident happened. You'd been begging everyone to let you have coffee. He'd nearly choked on his when you whined about having too much blood in your caffeine system. So thinking you'd react like most kids, disgusted, if he gave some coffee he did. He wasn't expected to see you look visibly at peace as you drank it. He also watched as you bit Duke when he tried to take the coffee away from you. Maybe you *were* his sister, by blood even! Logically not but you and him shared a wave length!
Tim runs several DNA tests and each time it didn't match but he knew better it was a match the computer was just glitching or the sample was bad.

7x10 - Chaos Agent Thoughts + Review
—★—
SPOILERS
overall this ep was okayy not my fave, but i don’t hate it.
Seth - I am glad he got fired and the switch up on his behavior compared to earlier ep was wild. I fear this won’t be the last we see of seth. I say this cause the actor had a bts photo with nathan on set in uniform plus apparently patrick’ said seth is going to in 10 episodes this szn and so far he’s been in 8. On top of that the way he threatened to sue the LAPD means there is unfinished business. I’m not sure in what capacity seth willl return. I am scared he’ll put Lucy or Tamara in danger. He could sue the lapd and lawyer up with monica. I am not to sure on seth’s return, but I think he’ll extract some sort of revenge. I also feel so bad for Lucy right now.
Nyla/James - My heart breaks for Nyla. She’s really trying with James. As for James I am quite neutral on him however he’s being a bit annoying. He makes valid points abt the injustice in the police system. He needs to be more understanding and respectful of Nyla. I think he’s being a bit emotional abt it. I don’t know if Nyla & James will divorce (I hope not), but James needs to understand Nyla’s pov. Let’s hope James can work thru his stuff
Celina - Celina was good this episode. She looked hot in the cold open. Celina successfully capturing the raccoon was adorable. Tbh I’m not a big fan of her & Rodge because one it kind of came out of nowhere and I really liked Scott & Celina. Speaking of Rodge I feel like it was to much of it. Daddy cop is funny but I felt like it was a lot this ep.
Raccoon - The raccoon was cute. I am glad he saved Tim’s life and Tim being grumpy abt animals while lucy loves animals is too cute (ik lucy wanted to adopt it). Miles interacting with the raccoon was nice to. He tired his best.
Smitty - Smitty getting upset (plus him being scared)at the raccoon for taking is funny is hysterical . I felt bad for him
when he got attacked. Tim helping smitty. tim is a softie.
Angela - I loved angela
this episode. Her conversation with the kid was wholesome and the way she handled it. This case was apparently inspired by the real life slender men case which tbh the fact that people irl would listen to “fake person (ai)” is crazy. Speaking of AI. As much as AI is helpful for school & work. It can also be creppy and dangerous. However I don’t think Zuzu is fully. I think there’s a person behind it. Possibly Oscar. I say this cause AI doesn’t personally text you. I’m thinking this will be a bigger plot for the rest of the season.
Chenford - Ngl chenfords progression has been very slow. I still like their interactions. I feel like they’ll get back together by 7x16 since it’s written by a chenford writer. I truly do
think they’re dragging out the sl. Imo for chenford to happen tim needs to initiate the conversation with Lucy. However Lucy clearly isn’t ready after the converasation, so idk what it’ll take for lucy to want to talk abt the break up. Ioved that Lucy called Tim for advice.
Daddy Cop - it was funny and it’s fine in small doses but not its too much. He had a whole ass montage/music video. This show already suffers from having too many characters. I think the screen time
could’ve been allotted to something else. Alexi really wants to promote his son ig.

Embarrassed to Be Loved
✰ Tim Bradford x shy!fem!reader

You’re singing under your breath to your favorite band’s new song when your phone chimes with an incoming text. Your boyfriend has a special text tone, so you know it’s him, but you keep your concentration to finish applying mascara before checking the message. It’s short, less a question or real invitation than a statement.
Meet me for lunch.
He sends another message with an address, and you chew your bottom lip with your thumbs poised over the keyboard. As if he knows you’re trying to come up with an excuse, one more message pops up, reading:
Everything will be fine. It’s just Lucy, Angela, and Nolan, they’re nice.
You’re not convinced, but you’re not in the habit of saying no to Tim. In fact, he’s not sure you even possess the ability, despite his constant reminders that you can tell him what you think. He’ll tease you for being shy, but he’ll never take advantage of you. So, you finish getting ready and leave with plenty of time to get to the outdoor restaurant on time for lunch with your boyfriend and a table of strangers. The thought makes you shudder.
When Tim arrives, he sees you right away. He hurries to your side, hugging you and whispering soft reassurances in your ear. You trust him, so you nod and smile at the officers with him. After being introduced to everyone, you sit beside Tim and across from Lucy, glancing at the menu in Tim’s hand rather than your own.
He taps the exact item you were looking at and raises his brows. He nods and stands at the same time as Nolan, and they walk toward the large window where orders are placed. You haven’t been here before, but Tim has mentioned that they have some of the best food in LA.
“So, how’d you meet Tim?” Angela inquires, smiling kindly.
His friends are nice, you think, and they haven’t treated you any differently for being quiet. You’re shy around Tim, and you’ve known him for months, so this is testing your limits.
“We ran into each other in the pet store,” you answer. “Kojo liked the treats I was holding.”
“He’s such a little matchmaker,” Lucy agrees. “Have you been dating long?”
“Four months.”
“Well, you clearly make him happy,” Angela replies. “You’re good for him.”
“He’s good for me,” you agree softly.
Nolan returns with three cups balanced between his hands, followed by Tim with the other three.
“You were supposed to take longer,” Angela says. “We were just getting to the juicy stuff.”
She winks at you, and you smile in return. They’re welcoming people, and you’re glad you came. Each moment makes opening up a bit more enticing; a one-hour lunch still isn’t going to change your entire personality. You’re more than content to let Tim and his friends carry the conversation while you listen in.
After you steal a fry from Tim’s plate, ignoring his grumpy huff, you notice his cup is empty. You pick it up, then stand and lift your own.
“I can get refills,” Tim insists, pushing himself up.
“I got it,” you whisper. “Thanks.”
Tim nods as he sits, murmuring, “Thanks.”
Nolan mentions a rumor about a Dodgers trade, drawing Tim’s attention as you walk to the small brick building tucked among the awnings covering the comfortable tables. There are a few more police officers having lunch on the other side of the patio, but you don’t give them more than a glance as you ask for refills.
“Did you see the girl with Bradford?” one of the officers asks.
At that, you turn your head toward the menu, listening to their conversation. Tim knows a lot of cops, so you’re not surprised they’re familiar with him, but you assume they’re talking about you.
“The shy one,” an older cop replies, nodding as he smiles around a bite of his hamburger. “I mean, to each their own, but I’d be embarrassed if I were in his shoes. If I want to order a meal for someone, I’ll have a kid.”
The other men laugh. Spurred on, the man adds, “You think he asks for a toy for her, too?”
You turn away then, your chest tightening as your mood sours. It should bother you, you think, that they’re making fun of you behind your back. Many women would get angry, and most would stand up for themselves. You don’t even consider doing that because you’re sad. Not angry, not necessarily hurt, just sad.
As you receive your drinks, you try to level your expression and blink away the moisture in your eyes. When you return to the table, Tim looks up at you with his brows drawn together. He notices the shift in you somehow, but you’re not going to tell him about it. Not now.
“Tell me you can see the appeal of bowl cuts,” Nolan pleads with you.
“Depends on the guy,” you murmur, shrugging one shoulder as Tim takes your hand beneath the table.
Hours after hearing the joke about your shyness, it’s still central in your mind. You stand in front of Tim’s open fridge, wondering why he isn’t embarrassed to be your voice. You’re a grown woman; you shouldn’t be this shy.
The front door opens and closes quickly, and before you can say hello, Tim is wrapping his arms around you. You cling to him, closing your eyes as he holds you. Tim leans against his island, rubbing your back in warm, comforting circles as he waits. He doesn’t force you to talk, doesn’t ask if you’re ready, doesn’t push, just shows you that he’s here with you no matter what.
“One of the other officers at the restaurant was talking about me,” you explain after several minutes.
Tim’s hand slows as he lifts his head to hear you better.
“He- um- he basically said that he’d be embarrassed to be you because I’m so shy and you have to talk for me,” you continue, your voice muffled against his Henley.
“I’ve never been embarrassed of you,” Tim promises. “And I never will be. Being shy isn’t a bad thing. Staying quiet because you’re uncomfortable or don’t know people is not a weakness.”
You shrug, and Tim tightens his grip on you.
“What did he sound like?” Tim asks. “See his nametag?”
Laughing, you assume Tim is joking, acting tough to distract you. “I only heard what he said about you and the joke,” you admit.
“What was the joke?”
You don’t notice Tim’s voice tighten around the word joke. Whether you can see it or not, he loves you – shyness and all – and anyone who thinks any part of your relationship is a joke will answer to him. Tim can’t protect you from everything, but he can remind you that you are enough and watch for your enemies.
“That you ask for a toy when you order food for me,” you say, twisting your fingers in his shirt.
Tim shakes his head. Smitty, he knows, because no other cop would make the connection between ordering food and kids' meals. Because he orders them for himself, he thinks.
“I thought you knew I was upset when I came back to the table.”
Tim lifts one hand to your chin, looking at your face without pressuring you to look at him. “I did,” he says. “I know you. I’m sorry they said that, but it’s not true.”
“I know.” You nod and mumble, “You wouldn’t stay with me if it were.”
“Yet here I am,” Tim whispers.
You smile, and Tim takes the opportunity to kiss your forehead. He reaches over your shoulder to open the fridge again before asking what you want for dinner.
Tim storms into the station the following morning, his jaw tight as his eyes scan every officer. Several step out of his way, looking at each other wide-eyed as Angela stands from her desk to watch him stalk through the bullpen like a predator.
“Smitty,” Tim seethes when he sees him.
Immediately, Smitty lifts his hands in surrender and blurts out, “I’m sorry.”
Tim tips his head to the side, lifting his hands to his belt as he stares at Smitty.
“I really am,” Smitty continues. “And if you-“
“You want to apologize?” Tim snaps. “Go ahead, but not to me.”
Smitty nods quickly – so quickly that Angela worries he’ll hurt his neck – then opens a desk drawer and withdraws a piece of paper and a pack of crayons. Tim closes his eyes and sighs, then answers Smitty’s question about how to spell your name.
When Tim enters your house with a smile, you narrow your eyes in suspicion.
“Kojo barked at the kid with the lemonade stand down the street and made him spill his whole supply,” he says.
You laugh, bending to pet Kojo. “Good boy,” you murmur. “Fight capitalism. He didn’t even make that over-sweetened stuff, it’s from a can.”
Tim watches you remove Kojo’s collar before standing. He drops the leash and pulls you into a tight hug, sighing when you wrap your arms around his waist. How could anyone be embarrassed to be loved by you? he wonders.
Tim offers you an unevenly folded card with your name scribbled on it in shaky crayon. You furrow your brows as you read it, then open your mouth but fail to speak.
“Smitty meant the apology,” Tim assures you.
“Did you scare him into making it?” you question.
“Me?” Tim questions dramatically. “Scary? No.”
You nod, not believing him but loving him all the same.

Alright, I just need to ramble my love and excitement over the Rookie coming back! I’ve been obsessing over Chenford (Tim x Lucy) for the past few months. (Even started up this side blog!)
I’m not normally a cop tv show watcher so it’s been a different experience to binge the Rookie but my god, do I just really love this slow burn, emotional and physical, in-depth and heartfelt characters and relationship of these two. And of course, the hotness of them both plays a role. How can it not?!
There are so many goddamn tropes. The height difference? Grumpy vs. Sunshine. Enemies to Friends to Lovers. Undercover/Fake Relationship. Denial of Feelings. Forbidden Romance. Soulmates. Being at your lowest point and being brought back up. Literal white knight and damsel in distress (both of them!) while simultaneously kickass power couple. Lucy is just so smoll. Tim conveys so much with his eyes and micro expressions.
youtube
I'm still new to the Rookie fandom but I’ve loved binging this series after season five was already out so I knew Chenford was endgame. It made it an easy and fun watch to see these characters progress individually and together. Binging made me fine with seeing them in other relationships, as they took what they needed, realized what they didn’t have, and grew closer together.
So many chances for these two to have gotten together earlier (and I love those fics) but I’m glad it was five seasons of a slow burn. The build up was so worth it. To see Lucy completely break down Tim’s walls and help him see the good in the world. To see Tim push Lucy to excel, and then to show absolute faith in her as he acknowledges her skills and talents. They hit all the love languages. Anyways rant over, Chenford just makes me happy. I can't wait to watch my first canon couple in real time (also slightly afraid haha).
Also this fandom is so talented. Just wow.

Lucy knew coming to the party was going to be a struggle. She had hardly left the flat since the incident. With her therapist’s guidance, she was working on going to the mall and easing herself into more busy environments when she couldn’t have awareness of every single person around her. She needed to be ready to get back to work. But tonight had been harder than she thought. The low lighting and noise made it difficult to notice when someone was approaching. She didn’t like being touched when she didn’t see it coming first. And the feeling of eyes on her at all times, when she had been dying in that barrel and knew she was being watched the entire time, made her feel sick. So, she was doing her best to hide in the booth and trying not to show how much she was struggling. She looked over at the bar and saw Tim was still there. Her hand reached for the small bag she had brought with her. She was going to give him the gift earlier but had chickened out. But if she didn’t go down, she risked running out of time. Ignoring the voice in the back of her head screaming at her to stay safe in the booth, Lucy got to her feet and walked towards the bar. Tim immediately met her gaze and put down his drink as she approached, turning to face her fully. “I was going to give you this earlier and then Nolan interrupted but I know you will be leaving soon, so I just wanted to give you it before you go.” Lucy found herself rambling. Tim could be an ass, but she had learned that there was much more to him than that and, ever since, she could no longer take his grumpy attitude seriously. He was, however, still her TO and she didn’t want to risk the work relationship they were building by making him uncomfortable with a gift. She handed him a small package wrapped neatly. He opened it to reveal a wallet clip. “This one has two fastens, so it attaches more securely to your belt. You know in case anyone tries to steal it.” To Lucy’s surprise, Tim erupted into laughter so loud a few of the cops nearby turned to look at him. “Thank you, Lucy.” He said sincerely when he gained control of himself again.

Heey again!
I'll be honest, I met Tim Bradford a few days ago, but I'm already in love with him haha Honestly what I know about him is based on fanfics and YouTube shorts, but I saw him and my brain went "grumpy? yaaay!" I'm planning to watch The Rookie but it will not be now... but that doesn't stop me from reading a little bit of fiction and be a little delulu, right? 🤭That said, I will understand if my request is a little out of character for him and I apologize, but here goes:
Very pregnant reader whos also a cop/detective and hasn't taken maternity leave yet because she "still can handle it". She's not going out into the field, maybe doing more paperwork, but she's still there. But then the day comes, She thought she had at least... A week, two maybe, but no. She stays there all day, doing what she can between contractions (breaking someone's hand in the process because well, it hurts like hell haha) but she still doesn't want to leave. And honestly, she's very scared, but she doesn't show it and that's why she refuses to leave. She has a strong personality, she matches Tim in that and that's why they're perfect for each other... And Tim is there almost tossing her over his shoulder and riding to the hospital jsgdkdh
And when she finally goes to the hospital, when she's leaving she do like that Doctor Bailey scene from Grey's Anatomy: "I may be 47 months pregnant, I may not see my own feet, but I am doctor Bailey. I hear everything. I know everything. I'm watching each and every one of you. And I will return." But reader say it for her rookie, or something- ksgdkdhd
Anyway... I would really love to see Tim strugling with Reader, about how she's stubborn and getting on his nerves, but then they talk about her fears and ugh- 😩 him being the man he is!
By the size of this text I think you can imagine that I thought a lot about this, right? Jsgdjd sorry. I would write, I like to write, but I haven't done it for so long and I found your profile and it feels like Heaven. I love your writing, please don't stop! 🥹
Also, I saw you said something an anon "claiming" a emoji, something like that..? Can mine be 🌟, if thats okay?
Btw if this is asking too much or something I understand! Thanks for reading this far!
<3
Hi!! First, you can absolutely be 🌟! What a cute emoji for such a cute personality!
Second, thank you so much for the compliments, I really appreciate it! 🥹 Seriously! You are too kind! Your ideas are amazing and I hope that someday you feel confident enough to write again, I’m sure you are incredible!
Third, I’m OBSESSED with your idea for this one-shot!! I got into Tim in a similar manner 🤣 I totally get it! The shorts just suck us into the show! I started writing my series ‘This River is Wild’ before I had even finished the first season, he’s great! “Grumpy? Yayyy,” is an excellent way to sum him up lol! I hope you get time to watch the show soon, I’m sure you will love it!
That being said I love this very detailed idea! It reminds me a lot of Angela Lopez (another character in the show who is also Tim’s BFF) and I am so excited to bring this character you’ve created to life! The Dr. Bailey reference is amazing and will for sure be getting quoted 🤣
The only question I have— are Tim and reader together and she is pregnant, and then they talk after she annoys him?? Or is it that she is pregnant from a separate affair but it’s over and they have fallen for each other? This might be a stupid question, very sorry, but I just wanted to clarify 😭 😭 you can let me know in inbox!
I’m very excited to begin writing this, and will try to get a quality piece out there for you within the week! Thank you again for this incredible request!
All my love,
Anna
