Watched Andrew Scott’s Hamlet last week - suffice to say I have lost the ability to think about anything else in the near future

His performance was so raw - it was like I was entranced for the entire duration of the play

keep seeing people say we don't "need" a new adaptation of [insert beloved classic novel] because [insert adaptation loved by fans, likely from the 90s/00s] already did it perfectly and I gotta say I vehemently disagree. I think we should never stop making adaptations of beloved classic novels because adaptations of beloved classic novels serve as a time capsule for the culture of the time of the adaptation. what did the people involved deem worthy of heightening, what did they ignore from the original text, what themes did they make more or less overt? all these are things that can tell us something about the zeitgeist of the time, and I think that's actually worth sometimes getting something like netflix persuasion, un-fucking-fortunately.

was watching hamlet with andrew scott. first of all, he's amazing. second of all, he has the most remarkable diction and cadence i've ever heard in a shakespeare actor. he actually sounds like he's talking. he's not reciting anything, he sounds absolutely natural. which is amazing given the fact that the language is basically just one really big innuendo

i finally watched andrew scott’s hamlet, and god he plays hamlet so young; but then you see the gravedigger scene and hamlet’s actually been alive for thirty years and then it’s just: oh. we never do escape being a child when we’re around our parents, do we; we can leave, play at being adults, but the minute we come back we will always be ten twelve fourteen eighteen and our parents are flawed and perfect and broken and untouchable; and all of a sudden thirty doesn’t seem that grownup at all
