Circa 1955 SSS Japan “Tiny Giant Series” 1/32 scale tinplate BMW 501 “Baroque Angel” 4-door luxury sedan. This toy was gifted to me by a good friend, whose now-deceased parents purchased it new for his older brother, and it spent probably 50 years in an attic until it was given to me. While this isn’t the most pristine tinplate toy car, and the friction motor no longer operates, it’s a remarkable survivor, and is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen counting the numerous even more beat-up, incomplete examples on the internet.

#REDBLOCKSOCIETY @andriastoybox • • • • • • Vintage Underground 1983 Volvo 242GLT "flathood", one of 500 US market cars with the Euro-market hood, this was the first turbo Volvo with an intercooler to come to the states, where as the main production 240 Turbos didn't get intercoolers until mid-1984. The '83 flathoods came "fully loaded", with power windows, doors, mirrors, a/c, manual sunroof, some had leather as well (as this car does). Original sticker price was near $18,000 back in 1983, and these cars were by special order only through the dealer network. There were a total of 500 built in order for Volvo to meet the "homologated" status to race in the production ETCC (European touring car championships) with a new model turbo. Around 30 cars were sent back to Sweden for racing after arriving on US soil.
