I remember when I was younger and I saw ralsei for the first time, and after chapter 1, I immediately thought, 'It would be so cool if he became a girl...'

and this was at the time the fandom was like, 'NOOOOO RALSEI IS A BOY HES A PRINCE HES A BOOOOY' i was suffering in the fandom . I remember I felt dread for being a weirdo because I kept seeing art about that.

well, you're the one ascribing the binary of options here, you tell me.

obviously i'm not forcing them into a binary position, i too am a nonbinary transfeminine person, and also not an idiot. "nonbinary" is already an umbrella term with infinite depths of nuance (it has not been made clear if it's even one they identify with!!), and i think the only case in which kris would be "a girl" is being susie, who already has implications of nonbinary feelings going on with her, too!!

but kris is so, so visibly written to be read as having been coercively assigned male at birth. the chapter 3 egg sequence has signs that proclaim that "THIS IS A MAN'S WORLD", with one sign that feels almost hastily compensating: "NON-MEN ARE A-OK, TOO!" the way that noelle describes riding a ferris wheel with them as "forced", and how that hurts susie just as much (susie also has many implications towards being a trans woman violently alienated from femininity), is textbook internalized transmisogyny, with this idea that trans women are actually men preying on girls like noelle who can't fight back. NOT TO SAY NOELLE MEANS IT LIKE THIS, she probably doesn't realize how much what she's saying hurts and why it does, but her parents are not the most especially on the level with this stuff (rudy is kind of a misogynist even if he plays it off), so we can see where she gets it.

kris themself is also forced into a position of inflicting violence on monsters with a sword, a distinctly male role in older video games. the chapter 3 secret boss route elaborates on this a lot further, especially around their dysphoria based in being a human in a town of monsters, being someone who could quite possibly kill everyone in town without any difficulty, based on how humans are described in undertale. their struggles with identity are definitive to so much of the game, including ralsei, who as mentioned in a previous post is kris's gender feelings projected off of them and into their shadow so they can focus on the grim task at hand. but while having to deal with all of this, kris and ralsei have begun to develop apart, and kris is starting to see things they want to be outside of what ralsei is defined by, they're starting to break out of their old dreams and have new ones, ones about susie, dess, dogs. cool girls have an impact on them, they want to be something like that.

does this mean they have to be A Girl? no, there could be plenty of nuance to all of this, just like with anyone. they would still probably present androgynous, or at least like the cool older girl that wears flannel all the time. they might flinch away from wanting to be called a girl, and that would be completely understandable, because they are well within their right to have complicated feelings about it. don't just break it down into "are they Nonbinary or are they A Girl" as if that's not creating another visible binary. it's not so black and white. you can be many things. you can be a boy and a girl at once. no one can stop you from identifying however the fuck you want.

Group commission made in celebration of Deltarune Chapters 3-4, with OccPixTFs (who also made the VHS effects for the alt versions) presenting a bit more 'Tenna-y' for a deltarune snatch game for those dressed as, or rather, as Darkeners and visiting lighteners alike. So... this whole thing was supposed to be a costume party - it was, at least until about few minutes ago. Zeydaan had gotten her friends from all over the show together at their place to celebrate the release of Deltarune's latest chapters. Character impressions, theorising, fangirling out, and not to mention actually playing the game together were all to be expected over the coming hours. A fresh Dark Fountain, however, was not. The lights went out, partygoers plunged into total darkness... stumbling against what felt like... counters? Podiums? It was tricky to decern. This awkward bumbling about continued until a large spotlight shone down out of the darkness, then another, and then another... fanfare growing as the new lights centred on a tall silhouette, a booming voice breaking the quiet murmuring. "Coming straight from YOUR HOUSE!!"

"Mx.-a Pix-TENN-A's— T! V! TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME~!!" With a thunderous applause, the host strutted onto the main stage, bowing and posing at unnatural speeds. A few minutes ago, this was Pix, a mildly theatrical nonbinary artist... but they had since become the spitting image of Tenna; the Darkner gameshow host! Really, the only things still left over was a more androgynous voice (albeit now bit-crunched), gender-neutral pronouns, and the hair poking out of the monitor's screen. "Loving the intro, Mike!! You folks are in for an AMAZING show tonight! We've been renewed for a season thanks to the combined PASSION of our CONTESTANTs, and our main sponsor, the DARK FOUNTAIN!!" With a fancy flourish of their gloved fingers, Pix-Tenna's set was suddenly lit with a flash from the new overhead spotlights, revealing a large layered stage containing their friends! All of them were equally confused, still wearing the outfits they'd been at the party in... some seemingly with a slight improvement into authenticity? Were they always such high quality? "Speaking of, tonight's STARS are quite fond of some Dark World Celebrities, and you know what they say... imitation is the highest form of flattery!" (I've personally gone on dates with Me, Myself and I~) Canned laughter filled the room - the origin of this audio remaining unclear as the contests look around the sea of Shadowmen in the audience ahead of them, the crowd seemingly stretching on out into darkness.

"But before we get to any of that, how about we all give these lovely folks a hand... and a NAMETAG!" The contestants, all beginning to shift and morph under the spotlight, watch as a three-character display appears on each of their podiums, already set to a pre-determined name. They squirm as their individual transformations progress, some growing fur, some losing it, and everything in between. "First up, we've got one of my most loyal viewers here, so please give a hand for TORIEL! The most prolific baker in HOMETOWN and mother to..." "KRIS! They're looking a little more BLUE these days, but hey! What's good TV without a little palette change every now and then?" "Coming from CASTLE TOWN, it's the one and only prince-from-the-dark and three time accidently fluffiest pet contest winner, RALSEI!" "To his right, it's the monster maniac herself! The ax attacker, chalk connoisseur, and rudest buster around, SUSIE!" "But what's this? It seems as if she's only got eyes for MISS HOLIDAY? Could these lovemonsters prove to be a mighty DYNAMIC DUO tonight folks? Let's find out!!!" "This guy just showed up! Despite not being asked! I don't know how he got on here!" After rattling off names, Tenna spins around in place, pointing at a large screen off to the side of the podiums as it flickers to life, presenting the contests with a question. Okay I finally finished this thing - my headcanons about what some of the Deltarune main cast would sound like! And yes I used two voices from TADC leave me alone.

I struggled a LOT finding a voice that I think fits Susie. I have this very specific idea in my head of what I think she sounds like and Zooble's voice is as close to that as I could find, but I'm kinda hoping I'll find a voice that really matches my headcanon in the future. With Kris it's a little bit the opposite, I could think of a lot of voices that I think fits them. Personally I like their voice being a little bit more masculine-leaning while still sounding androgynous, if that makes sense? Most importantly I want them to sound very monotone. Ralsei's voice is also what I imagine Asriel mostly sounds like.... probably, he hasn't shown up in Deltarune yet so maybe it doesn't match at all lol, we'll just have to wait and see. Noelle was the easiest pick for me, I think Lizzie Freeman is perfect for her, not much to say here. Lastly Berdly, when I was listening to different character voices I found like three characters I thought could potentially work for him. Then I looked up their voice actors only to find out that they were all voiced by Kyle McCarley LMAO so yeah I went with him. If I get to be nit-picky, I imagine Berdly's voice being a slightly higher pitch, but whatever.

For now I'm content with all of these voices for the characters, but I don't mind hearing about ya'll's headcanons so feel free to share them!

Someone I know continues to call Kris a "him" because apparently they act more masculine, how they were as a kid (which we only know from how Noelle, Rudy, and Toriel describes them, which could be any gender), and that bc they're the only human there and that the human book Toriel owns only explains how to take care of a child (which doesn't even make sense because the topic is HUMANS and NOT how to care for them), and that they can "get away" with being non binary because that's not a concept for monsters??
