This might be an unpopular opinion, but I can imagine Jay would be kinda toxic in a relationship. But only because of all his abandonment issues ;-; Thoughts?

Oh he’s hella toxic 😬 Especially, Arkham Knight-era Jay. Canonically I don't think he could ever hold down a relationship with everything he's been through 😞 As you said, he's got wayyy too many trust issues stemming from abandonment/brainwashing/ptsd/abuse.

But I also desperately need him to find a lover (gotta have that comfort to go with all of the hurt); a gardener for his delicate rose; someone who makes him feel warm/safe/needed/loved; a saint with the patience of a toddler's parent, lmao.

A few of his toxic relationship traits, imo (please share more if you have any!)

controlling with a jealous streak

quick to anger. He's got a fiery temper with a penchant for throwing things. I don't think he'd actually raise a hand to his s/o but I can see there being close calls, like him punching the wall instead of that person.

extremely self-centered. It's a survival mechanism, not only from his time in Arkham but also for not giving into his depression/suicidal ideations.

always second-guessing the relationship he's in. He's gonna be convinced that his partner will leave him at the drop of a hat, so he's always gonna be on edge, reading into things, ready to assume the worst about his partner.

can get pretty rough in sex. His partner needs to be very firm with their boundaries.

Just picture being in a relationship with that guy from the game who's kicking doors in, screaming at everyone non-stop, throwing threats of bodily harm around to his own men, kidnapping a found-family member, putting her in a scary/dangerous situation, displacing countless Gothamites, leaving a city in ruins, not caring about collateral damage in his quest for vengeance, picking a fight with his dad in the most destructive way imaginable. (And he freaking stomps a rat into mush in the comics for no reason 😡) That guy's not gonna be a fairy-tale love interest LMAO

Stiffening in his seat, Ramsay has to bite his tongue to keep it from lashing out. The thing would only stay sheathed so long—he’s simply waiting to see where to aim his lash. What his lord father’s implying is evident, but he intends to know the whole of it before striking back.

This is from an incredibly weird WIP I have; it’s set in ASoIaF verse’ and is entirely horny nonsense.

This scene is actually the first time I’ve written Roose! It’s been fun practice and will hopefully be helpful for when I write him in my long fic.

Imagine ak jay being a virgin when he's captured by Joker. He has his first consensual sexual experience after his escape. But since he just spent over a year of being tortured and non- consensually touched, it ends up being a traumatic experience, no matter how much his partner tries to put him at ease ;-;

And because he's terrible at hiding his emotions, imagine him, pale blue eyes filled with tears, lashing out at his partner, or storming out as his partner tries to comfort him, and then being terrified—convinced even—that his partner will leave him since he can't satisfy them sexually. More trust issues added to their already volatile relationship. Yet another aspect of his life that the Clown ruined for him.

We know Jason is forcibly given hallucinogenics in AK: Genesis. Like imagine post torture Jason still dealing with the effects of long term drug use. When he's more stressed than usual or lacking sleep, the hallucinations start again and he can't stop them ;-;

You actually read my mind 😁 I've been rewatching True Detective Season 1, and the main character has chemical flashbacks from neural damage done by psychedelics. So of course I immediately thought of Jason and the drugs Harley gave him.

Imagine having to deal with the flashbacks from trauma combined with chemical flashbacks. And I'm certain these hallucinations feature Joker, taunting him, touching him... Jason even says: "I can still hear him laughing. He's still in my head!" during the boss fight with Batman 😭

Have this line from one of my WIPs where Jason describes the war (between Joker & Bruce) that's constantly raging in his head:

“You don't understand. I hear them—both of them—like angels and devils from those stupid cartoons. They won't leave me alone. It's like... it's like they're at war over my soul, tugging and tugging and tugging. I'm stretched so thin now, I'm so exhausted. I just want... I just want to stop hurting. I want to be free.”

Thinking about Jason being jealous of Joker's other victims, and feeling disgusted with himself because of it ;-;

His psyche so twisted that he wants to be Joker's one-and-only 😍 Hating Harley not because of what she did to him, but because Joker didn't abandon her like he did his Plan J 🤡

I can see him associating being abandoned with impending torture, which just makes him more paranoid ;-;

Then that just brings the rage boiling up inside him to fight the fear that's creeping in, and he squares off with his partner, looming over them, jaw locked, fists clenched at his sides, vein bulging in his neck, pale blue eyes burning with a cold flame; this broad-shouldered brickhouse of a man who's absolutely terrifying at his full height 😬
