Week 20 Evaluation

16-5-19

Extension week. I spent the entirety of this week catching up on the other projects that had been forced aside due to the visual essay group project.

I managed to complete all three animated loops in one day; once I’d gotten used to animating in After Effects again, it was a nice and quick process. I also created moodboards and storyboards as per the submission requirements in the same day, meaning I finished all of the animated loops requirements early on this week. I enjoyed this project as although I didn’t have a lot of time to work on it (even with the extension), it did push me to work a lot quicker than I usually do.

As for personal branding, I’ve been working on my website on and off all week in the evenings. I finally got round to creating a showreel later on in the week, which I put on my website. This project has been good practise for establishing myself online as an artist - it’s something I’ve been meaning to do again for a long time but never had the confidence to do so, so this was a good form of motivation.

I’ve been doing research for the professional practise project for a few days this week and managed to get the essay done within a few hours. Since it’s a proposal, it didn’t require a huge deal of research as it contains mostly on what I’m intending on writing about in year 3 and the different forms of research I’ll be doing; it’ll definitely be helpful when the year 3 research reports roll around as I’ll already have a solid idea of what I can write about and what to do in terms of research.

Assets round 2

I thought I might as well switch up my style, go for something a wee bit more simple but still snazzy, you get me? What are you feeling for snazzy you might be wondering? Pop art. Bright colours, bold lines, fun use of polka dots and stripes. Absolute perfection.

Here are the assets for my new babies, once again all done in Photoshop (dunno what else you would expect from me)

Also, for all on these designs, I just created a PNG image of basic diagonal stripes and one for the polka dots that I could use throughout them all. Gotta keep that consistency.

Loop 1 

Told you I would figure out how to make the font more jazzy without it looking out of place.

Honestly, I’m well chuffed with this, the colours are giving me life and I’m so ready to roll. 

Loop 2 

First of all, this is so much better than the other bulb, that was awful. You do have to excuse me though, I’m not the most versed with pop art so I’m not the best at knowing how to use the lines and dots for shading but I have tried my damn hardest.

Loop 3 

I love these so much, I think they look the part and work well with the text! You might think otherwise, but please don’t tell me I’m very proud.

Improvements!!

That sun certainly wasn’t the first attempt, just look at this complete visual atrocity.

Makes me want to gag honestly. I just couldn’t live with it, it looks like it should be on the wall of a poorly decorated nursery, but I slept on it, woke up in the morning and had the beautiful realisation on how to make a better version.

Techniques

I kept a set line thickness for everything so that it would match (5px and 15px)

Colours

These blobs came with me through every document, they might as well be my children now.

Polka dots and stripes

These are the basic PNGs I was chatting about. I could easily make them white by just inverting the colours in photoshop so it was proper handy.

Conclusion

I have so much more confidence in these puppies than the previous assets so that’s nice! I actually can’t wait to start animating them, to be honest.

Animated loops - 

For this loop I wanted to do something really simple and capture a sense of movement. I feel like it links into animators emotions as you are the driving force behind the piece of work (that and study of dynamics is incredibly important).
