Incorrect, the fact that Biden has dropped out and a candidate with history of supporting medicare for all and being more receptive to a ceasefire in the I/P conflict has made me go from "I cannot morally support the Democratic nominee" to "I am voting for the Democratic nominee despite the fact she isn't perfect in every respect." I'm really happy this played out. The Dems for the most part abandoned the old Obama platform and it feels like its possible an actual progressive agenda could come to pass in my lifetime.

first i would not call what's happening a "war" of any kind. Israel has cut off power, water, food, medical supplies, and now all internet and cellular access to civilians as they continue to bomb them. the prime minister has made his genocidal intent very clear. not a war.

to start you can visit the website i have linked here dozens of times over the years and that many others have linked as well, DecolonizePalestine, which is run by two Palestinians. they have an entire introductory course, a section debunking a lot of popular mainstream myths, a reading list, and a breakdown of what rainbow washing is (you've probably seen pinkwashing mentioned a lot on tumblr recently at the very least)

i'll link you to this masterpost as well which includes books, movies, video essays, articles about Palestinian culture, as well as organizations and people to follow. unfortunately, we are seeing in real time some of these accounts getting wiped as social media websites try to suppress Palestinian voices.

I think I'm going to have to go with tumblr, and it's not just because we're here. Twitter and Bluesky are nice and my experiences on both are overwhelmingly positive. But tumblr has an atmosphere that encourages originality, sharing your creations and talking about things in depth.

Hi anon! I'm actually not an "OG" swiftie on social media, or even in the fandom, so I'm the wrong person to ask. I've listened to Taylor's music since Debut, would consider myself a fan from about 1989, and hardcore Swiftie from probably around Lover or folklore. And only joined the tumblr side of the fandom around Midnights/Eras. So I'm likely considered a new fan as well despite being familiar with her from the start.

I think the frustration longtime fans feel is that newer fans (not necessarily you anon) are clamouring for Rep TV but completely misunderstanding what the era was really like or about. There's a faction of fans who want Rep TV because they want the easter eggs and the "bad bitch" vibe and want to fuel their tiktok conspiracy theories. When the reality was: it was not a "bad bitch" era. Taylor was in recovery from several things, she was finding her footing personally, professionally and in the public eye, and she was rebuilding her life after an extremely traumatic experience (that almost cost her everything if you catch my drift).

Fans who were around then are extremely protective of the original rep era for that reason, because the fallout from the "cancellation" cannot be underscored enough. Like, I wouldn't consider myself in the fandom at all at that point, but even I was extremely aware of what was going on. Taylor was absolutely pilloried everywhere. She was persona non grata during snakegate. It was relentless. So I think the fans who were around then take offence to people being like "fuck yeah Taylor is going to own all these assholes!" like when the chronically online think she's embracing being targeted by the president or the right wing zealots or Blake's legal case. The reality was that it was a very vulnerable time for Taylor, and Rep is a very vulnerable album because despite the imagery of it being this badass revenge album, it's actually about her opening herself up to love when she felt like the world hated her. So the commodification of Rep by the newer fans who completely ignore that and just want all the "bad bitch" songs I think rubs people the wrong way and feel like it treats Taylor like a sim, when she is a person who went through a life-changing experience that set her on a very difficult and painful path for years.

I do feel for younger fans who are experiencing all of this for the first time, because I do think some corners of the fandom are very prickly and dismissive. And as someone who is no longer young, but still newer to the full fandom experience, I do empathize with that because I have felt shades of that myself. I think all newer fans are welcome, but I think newer fans also have a bit of a "duty" to understand what Taylor is about and what she's experienced. It's great if you are excited for Rep TV to experience a new album launch! I've loved being around for the re-releases since 2021! But I think it's also understanding that Taylor isn't Easter egging her life, and the TikTokification of discourse has made it impossible for many fans to enjoy any of it because of the constant search of conspiracies and/or misunderstanding Taylor's music or her life experiences.

My rule of thumb is to just stay away from Twitter fandom in particular, but also tiktok and reddit lol. It's made for rage bait. Enjoy what you want, and have fun learning about this stuff all over again. :)

I don't "spam" tags for cordelia and James as I never tag Cordelia in my posts unless she is actually involved in them and never tag with any other ship name aside from the ones involved. This is not "spamming", this is tagging correctly.

I tag James in my posts because he is involved in the ship with Matthew. It's not my fault barely anyone else posts about James except for me. Curate your own internet experience and block this blog if you don't want to see the posts or go make your own posts about James and Cordelia to fill the tags instead of sending people entitled anonymous asks.

I’m not saying anything he did was OKAY. I would never excuse it, and i’m not doing that.

I don’t know what my full thoughts are on it just yet. I’ve only seen the film twice so far and I’ve already changed my mind about a few things since the first time I watched it. Especially after consuming so many different viewpoints and opinions; I dont know if I’ve had enough time and consumed enough information to form my complete thoughts yet.

But so far - i believe that Remmick didn’t think of himself as racist, and I dont think as a person that he is or that he means to be. I think he genuinely believes to an extent that what he’s doing (turning them into vampires to live in his little “community”) is helpful. But its not, and his actions in the film were inherently bad and racist in the context. And i feel like he’s written that way on purpose, at least thats how it seemed to me.

That’s what i mean by “misguided”, but perhaps my wording was wrong. I do believe i’m fully capable of understanding the nuance and meaning behind the cultural vampirism and the forced assimilation into Remmick’s Irish and vampiric culture. It was wrong and a bad thing to do and thats why he’s the villain. On top of that, there is also something to be said about the choice to write him as Irish and the experience he had throughout his very long time on Earth. He thinks he can relate to the black community with the persecution that he and his people faced from England throughout history. But in reality, what he ends up doing is insensitive, unhelpful, extremely harmful and he ultimately commits racist acts (whether or not it’s intentional on his end though is unclear, and everyone seems to have a different view on that part).

But in comparison to Bert and Joan, he’s not like them. He isn’t apart of the klan and doesn’t ever express interest in being part of it, he only pretends to in order to convince them to let him into their house.

Im yapping now but maybe i explained myself a little better. If not, feel free to express your own thoughts, opinions, and feelings - im open to everything. This is just how I understood the character and the film. Sinners is a really wonderful movie, one of the best I’ve seen in a while and i cant wait for a chance to watch it again. I believe its partially intended to bring up deep, interesting, and even uncomfortable conversations and I’m open to hearing and having them.

my more genuine advice is to remember some of the core rules of internet safety and interaction like 1. it is safer to assume that ppl on the internet are lying about themselves in one way or another. Don't assume you know someone just because you follow them on twitter or are in a big discord chat together and 2. share as little easily identifiable personal information as possible, especially if you are involved in any sort of leftist group, you have committed any sort of crime, or you are at risk of being found by an abusive figure or stalker. General life advice dont trust personalities from any website where getting attention makes you money or gives you actual social power. This can include tumblr but both bc of how followers are hidden and the sites cultural loss of importance yr less likely to end up being tricked by a secret cia agent and more likely to be tricked by a bored teen or a low level scammer or like...idk a deeply unwell classics major who demolishes friend groups between classes and uses peach. Is that a person who exists? that's probably a person who exists.
