First off, I went to reread chapter 14 so I could better follow the events of chapter 15 and-

OH MY GOSH I FORGOT THAT ELLIE FREAKING ASCENDED!

I also got to relive that MM-MM GOOD Julius x Aika tension. Very good chapter to go back to.

ANYWAYS! STUFF FROM THIS CHAPTER!

Solidly confirmed that Ellie is, in fact, a god now. A god of sorts. In a Pantheon. Which is, like, awesome! But question: did her eyes literally burn away those people? Or is it metaphorical but her eyes still literally were something dangerous? I mean, I'm leaning towards those burning eyes literally doing that but I just wanna be sure...

The gods not needing grimoires feels like a parallel to devils not naturally having grimoires. Like, they can steal corrupted four-leaf grimoires. But they don't just get one.

And the conversation just goes into the craziest of directions. The implication of the rather cold reason why Aika took in Eillie. Jayce and Arthur's disagreement. A High Priestess at some temple?! Okay so Aika's necromancy on Evan isn't going to fully restore him?! Um... Rude? How dare you revive him and then tell us that truth! 😭

And this whole discussion is happening while Dorothy, Fuegoleon, Jien, Marx, and Julius are just... there. Watching.

Julius is probably able to take this craziness. He's processing it better than the other four. The others are probably like...

"WHAT IS GOING ON?!"

And then Julius was alone. AND LUCIUS! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!

Is the plan foiling intentional on Aika's part? 🤔 She has a lot of thing planned out and has failsafes. But even with Time Magic she can't see into other people's minds and stuff. But considering she knows about JuLu, who knows how much she knows about Lucius' plans.

JULIUS WITH THE CALL OUT POST! Julius' determination coming from experience rather than obsession. It's great. Love that for him.

Oh my gosh! LUCIUS WHAT?!

I do love the parallel between Aika and Julius, with the way their darker egos overlapping their usual appearance. That's a cool thing to note.

Ellie saying "aim at his soul" and Jayce being all "yeah, that advice sure does help! (sarcasm)"

LMAO! Arthur not having a soul to interfere with! Get rekt Lucius!

Ellie really is stepping into her new role as a deity. She's figuring this out quick, like a goddess! Also the little shift of her and Jayce's dynamic. 😆 I'm not expecting a ship to sail but it's funny to see Jayce going "👀 Well that's new." He thought he knew her but now there's so much for him to learn.

But maaaaan... Julius is going through it. The Fate spell thing and then Aika going berserk and then Lucius... ALL IN ONE DAY!

... Hey is Aika's berserk mode still going on? Last we checked she was, uh... In the snowy mountains?

The Marx moment! I think it's because Marx has been on the mind lately but aaaaaawwwwww! 😭💖 Marx cares for his boss and Julius cares for his assistant! It's sweeeet!

And here at the chapter's end we establish the... establishment of two new squads (and considering the insignias of the assassins... I wonder what's gonna happen with that).

Aand, oh, what's that I see out the window? Is it a bird? A plane? Oh! It's Tabata's original canon being blasted off by Anshi's rewriting! AKJFHAIEURHIAERKAHAEIH!

Chapter 15: Mercy, Mercy

Summary:  Aika and Evan are gone for an indefinite period so the story turns to Julius. A ghost from the past and painful memories for the failed protagonist and a new chapter in his life.

Telling Julius he's pretty

I imagine such a comment would happen while you and Julius are cuddling in bed together, everything quiet except the sound of you two breathing.

You catch him off guard with the whispered compliment.

At first, Julius would ask you if you meant to call him "handsome" instead.

You sweetly tell him that you do mean "pretty" when you call him such.

Yes, Julius is very, extremely, enviously handsome.

But there are beautiful parts of him too, you'd point out.

There is beauty in the way he looks out for others, loves others.

In the way he carries himself. His charisma when he speaks to the public.

In the vivid violet hue of his eyes or his pearly, love-filled smile.

He is pretty, from his physical looks to his personality. And for that, you fell hopelessly in love with him.

Meanwhile, Julius would be losing his mind in the best way possible.

I think because Julius is in the public eye so much, he has a greater appreciation of small, one-on-one interactions.

Sure he gets praised on the daily for being the Wizard King but this is different.

Your complimentary words are yours alone. And they're for him alone.

That fact alone makes his heart soar.

Julius wouldn't try to hide this. He'd be blushing and grinning as wide as his face allows.

He'd be stuck between telling you "keep going" because he loves hearing you gush and "no stop" because he's getting overwhelmed.

He ends mashing them together as "no go, keep stopping" without noticing at all.

Telling Nacht he's pretty

You were lounging on one of the couches in the base while Nacht was walking by with a stack of paperwork in hand (finally taking the job from Finral/hj).

And then, without any prompting, you call him pretty.

Cue Nacht stumbling over his own feet and faceplanting on the floor. Not the reaction one would expect.

Nacht has a strained relationship with his own appearance, to put it mildly.

He shudders at the memory of the "bad boy" looks he used to revel in because of how it was connected to his evil deeds.

I think that a part of Nacht finds comfort in looking like Morgen but another part feels guilty for looking like him, a bad person masquerading as a good one.

His response to being called "pretty" would probably be along the lines of "it's only because I'm Morgen's twin."

You would have to stop him before he self-loathes any more.

There is no denying that Nacht is a gorgeous man. But it's more than just his looks.

To you, there is nothing more beautiful than someone who tries their best and strives to better themselves. And that's who Nacht is.

His good deeds are real and not just him making up for his bad deeds.

And even if Nacht is Morgen's twin, there are differences in their looks that you noticed back in the day.

Nacht's eyes are a little sharper. His lips tend to quirk up more on the right while Morgen's smile was even. You could offer to go on but Nacht is already red to his ears.

You would tell Nacht to take pride in his appearance. Although he's an identical twin, he is still his own person.

Nacht thanks you for your kind words, mentioning that they make him fall for you all over again.

As Nacht walks away, you comment "Don't worry about your old look. I thought it was pretty hot."

Cue a second faceplant.

3. Are there any fics that inspired you to write what you do?

This is going to be embarrassing but I feel like Laura’s (@thoughtfullyrainynightmare) fics/her writing style has influenced me a lot recently. The way she writes emotions and has scenes flow I think has left an impression on how I write.

A fic I read way before I was writing… I don’t remember the title or fandom but it was a fanfic about a character with haphephobia (fear of being touched). I feel like that influenced me by way of striking a cord with me in how trauma can be addressed. Not as some miracle curing but by the building of trust and reconnecting with the world. It inspired my writing but also my oc Haruka.

My biggest fault right now is that I hardly read fanfic outside of my little friend circle. Because I like the way people like Laura and Anshi characterize the, well, characters. I’m a little hesitant to read other works because I worry about going “they wouldn’t say that” and being unable to let myself believe the writer’s take on things.

In really need to get back to reading MHA and KnY fanfiction too…

You’re also inspiring some creative thoughts but I have to keep those secret because they’re still a work in progress. 😏

👻 What is one WIP you think you may never pick back up?

I ought to start writing for Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia in general honestly.

I got a few gems of fics in the Demon Slayer fandom, though they are oc centric. But like... I think I did good in those cases.

📊 Current number of WIPs

I've got 5(-ish):

-a fic centered on Nacht and a friend's oc (just doing some formatting edits before posting). -fic centered on a love letter. -Nacsele piece that I've wanted to write for a while. -fight centered fic idae that I mentioned in another ask. -Grey Deer days with Josele, Morgen, and Yami.

💻 Do you do research for your fics? What’s the deepest dive you’ve done?

Oh yes I research.

I've looked up things ranging from how adoption/foster kids are viewed in modern Japan (tl;dr: not that well) to pre-modern Japanese measuring systems. I'm probably on a watchlist somewhere because I've looked up info regarding how anxiety medication can be used as a sedative and how gaslighting actually works.

For most in-depth research... figuring out which time periods certain vampires would likely hail from. I found that women cross-dressing to join the military wasn't a totally foreign concept outside of Mulan and Joan of Arc. Also did you know that pirates actually had codes of honor/conduct? I didn't until I researched it.

⏰ Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally?

I read so much more fic than I write!

I just... I love reading content so I understand other ocs better!

Also their writing styles inspire me. I enjoy Laura's work with her poetic style. Anshi is great with depicting cunning and tension. I personally just think Lyra's writing style is the most fun. Casual and snappy sometimes and poetically heartfelt at other times.

Despite the fact that I am not an artist, I do like getting a sense of scale with characters. Because, well, height is part of character design and I think it's pretty important.

I have an especially odd fascination with height differences in ships. So I decided to take a look at my ships and ships from mutuals to see how varied and how large the differences can get.

Let's start by taking a look at the numbers alone.

Nacht x Josele: 180 cm vs 169 cm: 11 cm difference

Nozel x Helia: 177 cm vs 174 cm: 3 cm difference

Nozel x Adva (@cringeyvanillamilk): 177 cm vs 190 cm: 13 cm difference (This is the only pairing, among these m/f ships, where the female is taller than the male.)

Fuegoleon x Koli (@cringeyvanillamilk): 188 cm vs 188 cm: 0 cm difference (If this were a competition, which it isn't, these two would win the award for the smallest height difference since there is none.)

Fuegoleon x Solara (@thoughtfullyrainynightmare): 188 cm vs 175 cm: 13 cm difference

Yuno x Rex (@cryo-visionary): 172 cm vs 165 cm: 7 cm difference

Yuno x Neva (@lyranova): 172 cm vs 157 cm: 15 cm difference

Julius x Aika (@simpingforthisonedeer): 180 cm vs. 170 cm: 10 cm height difference

Now, for a visualization of those height differences! (The average height of females went up so now Solara and Tani are closest to the average.)

I personally think it's interesting looking cc x oc ships where the cc is the same and compare the difference in the partner. I mean, the gap between Helia and Adva is an entertaining 16 cm.

I'm not really sure what to do with this information. But I guess for other writers and the artists of the community, now you know just how much leaning is gonna have to happen whenever the couple goes in the for the kiss. Or maybe the taller party will pick up their short sweetheart.

This information could also be used for oc interaction scripting. Like, if Adva and Neva were to meet, Neva would hurt her neck looking up./j (I mean, it's a 33 cm difference, over a foot!) And I never realized how close in height Josele and Aika were until now.

Shout out to all my mutuals for letting me use their ocs in this project. And sorry for keeping y'all in the dark in case you got worried. I just wanted it to be a fun little surprise!

I don’t have much to say about Julius since other people (like you Anshi dearest) already say plenty about him.

Julius, like many Black Clover characters, has potential that is kinda wasted…

The man was hyped up but we only ever saw him fight twice. Granted if he was fighting front lines all the time, the series would be boring and his fight against Patry was pretty epic. But I dunno, I do think we could’ve seen a little more of Julius, especially the way he is received and interacts with the citizenry.

And, well, Julius is getting done dirty by Tabata. First dying. Then being turned into a kid. And now having his body snatched by a villain. 😔

Please enjoy. I think a couple things might surprise you. And some things might not. We'll see.

How I feel about this character: Julius deserves the role as the "ideal that other characters want to live up to" that he's been given. He's got this aura about him, he takes pride in his abilities and clearly knows he's good at what he does. Yet there's also humility, seen when he explains how merit is the key to becoming Wizard King. I also like his duality, being stoic and wise at some times and then being an excitable, curious child at other times. Overall, a very good man. Not sure if I would consider him a role model for my own life but I can certainly agree that he's one for the characters of Black Clover.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: There's not really anyone from canon that I ship him with. I guess the ocs people make to ship with him maybe?

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Owen. I feel like Julius and Owen are dad friends. They would crack so many awful dad jokes together while Marx, Yami, William, and Morgen are suffering in the background. Also Lorelei, magic nerding enablement buddies.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Not sure how unpopular this is but I don't know if I'll ever get another chance to share it so here goes... I genuinely hated when Julius tried to take on the giant demon that was sent to Clover and then flopped. Like I know the scene revealed Julius' child form to the public and it was going to happen eventually but... Now it's been left hanging. It'll probably be addressed post-Spade but I wish the reveal would've been done differently and not during an arc where so much stuff is already happening.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: And now I'm going to put a positive spin on the thing I hate! For the comedic possibilities, all of Clover Kingdom should adopt Julius in their hearts. They're like "Wizard King, wanna join us for dinner?" like they're inviting the kid next door over. The populace still adores him but now it's like the entire country is doting on a collective son (so basically how the fandom treats Asta and his peers/j).

My OTP: Would Julius x the concept of magic count?

My cross over ship: I think Julius and All Might from MHA would probably be good friends. They're super powerful, super beloved mentor/father figures in their fandoms.

A headcanon fact: During his stint as the captain of the Grey Deer squad, he commissioned a squad portrait every year. Although he was especially fond of William, Yami, and Marx (and Morgen because let's be real [or maybe just indulgent in my case], he would've adored an admirable guy like Morgen), Julius thought of the whole squad as his family. Getting portraits done of the whole squad together would signify that. After becoming Wizard King, he kept the portraits with him and looks at them once in a while to remember his past allies.
