whoever came up with the hong kong title for the red envelope deserves a real red envelope
the original chinese title of marry my dead body :
關於我和鬼變成家人的那件事 (guān yú wǒ hé guǐ biàn chéng jiā rén de nà jiàn shì)
that thing about how a ghost and i became family
obviously the taiwan title for the thai movie has to be something different:
冥婚鬧泰大 (míng hūn nào tài dà)
make too big deal out of ghost marriage
they just replaced the actual word for "too" 太 with 泰 (thai) since they have the same pronunciation like they're not even trying
the hong kong title though:
關於我和鬼變成家人的那封利是
yeah we're gonna be straightforward and replace 那件事 (na5 gin6 si6)* with 那封利是 (na5 fung1 lai6 si6)* which is cantonese for that red envelope. this is the kind of authentic hong kong style humor that probably just speaks to a small group of people and i happen to be one of them
i just love it when translators have fun
*cantonese pronunciation
